hey. can people please stop parroting "stan only regained his memory because it's a disney show" like it's an objective fact and somehow a storytelling flaw? because that's reductionist and straight up untrue. stan regaining his memory is not a random deus ex machina, it's clearly established earlier in the season that the memory gun isn't permanent via mcgucket's storyline. as soon as mcgucket watches the tapes in society of the blind eye, he begins to gradually heal and regain his memories. it makes perfect sense that mabel's scrapbook (and in journal three, stan and ford's old home movies) would function the same way for stan.
realistically, stan probably wouldn't have remembered his entire life in the span of a week, but his recovery is obviously being condensed for the sake of pacing. there's a ton of awesome fanworks based on the idea that he's still recovering new memories long after the end of the show, particularly from the darkest period of his life when he was homeless and estranged from his family. but that's not relevant to the finale. what matters for the show's purposes is that stan remembers the events of the past summer, so that his goodbye with dipper and mabel at the end of the episode holds dramatic weight. because THAT'S HOW YOU WRITE A STORY.
#this may or may not have been brought on by the gt live stream#āstan regains his memory because god forbid a story have stakesā THAT'S NOT WHAT STAKES MEAN???#the worst possible outcome does not have to take place in order for a story to āhave stakesā. it just needs to be a possibility#THE WORLD ALMOST ENDED#there's your stakes#every time someone says that the scrapbook jogging his memory was a random deus ex machina i want to scream#IS MCGUCKET A JOKE TO YOU???#quick question do you understand the concept of narrative precedent. do you know what set ups and payoffs are.#you can tell i am very calm about this and not at all infuriated#gravity falls#gf#gravity falls spoilers#weirdmageddon#stan pines#stanley pines#grunkle stan#fiddleford mcgucket#society of the blind eye#gt live#being vague posted about lol

i'm no film or visual arts expert but āļø one little detail i like in dead poets society is how often there are shots of todd looking up at neil. often in admiration, i'd assume--
--which is of course mirrored in the shot of neil looking up at todd after he does his poem;
also,
looking up towards the sky after The Incident. what does this say? i don't know actually. but it feels like something. don't know what
not to mention when neil is finally on stage. everyone in the audience is looking up at him in that case, but i'd say it still makes sense?
they hjust admire each other so much i think. Ouuhg
#im reaching in this whole thing but it's about the principle of it. the framing. the positioning. the art of it all#<- probably here too but i also appreciate when they're at the same eye level... like when neil sits next to todd when he's inviting him to#the first dead poets meeting. like saying you will be an equal in this group#does that make sense?$?#see: i constantly think i am misinterpreting and also finding creative choices where there aren't actually any#'what if the curtains were just blue' made me intentionally go the opposite route in my media consumption just to piss everyone off#Anyway. did i cook or should i stay out of the kitchen#dead poets society#dps#dead poets fandom#my only credential? i took photography in high school

Donna Troy is truly the character of all time. Always struggling with how people percive her. Needing to be perfect on the outside if not on the inside. Spending her entire life hiding her faults from outside eyes.
And then the monkey paw curls.
She gets erased and brought back with Wallyās memories of her. All of a sudden the facade sheās put up all her life becomes her. She becomes what sheās always projected to the world.
But it fixes nothing. Instead of worrying about showing her flaws to the world she worries sheās successfully erased them. The jokes is on her. She finally perfected the mirage of herself, but instead of freedom she finds herself in a self built prison, trapped in a watered down Donna Troy, the hollow image of perfection she cultivated all her life.
Her response is to scream in her own voice for the first time in her life.
#Donna Troy#no one does it like her#her response to this is to try her best to be imperfect and like in need to write a meta about this one day#like combined with Donnaās vision about perfection being about being the perfect girl (tm)#like thereās so much there about people especially young girls who try so hard to be the perfect girl to be obedient to follow what their p#parents and society says they should and they reach their early 20s and they realize they need to be imperfect they need to scream for the#first time in their lives#Donna Troy I love u#teen titans

im like the lorax when it comes to women's body hair. we should let it grow.
#eliot posts#the other day my roommate was talking abt how she hates shaving#but does it anyway bc she doesn't want people to be mean to her about her body hair#and i was like yeah i mean i used to#also worry about that bc my mother was always so fucking cruel to me when i didn't shave#but as an adult i find that it's extremely rare that anyone even mentions it (tho my body hair is pretty light so that could be a factor)#but even when people are shitty i find that i no longer give a shit about what what those idiots have to say about my body#but i understand that that can be a hard step to take so if you need to keep shaving for your own comfort then i won't judge#but on the inside i was just like#*ibuprofen hand meme* ''let's get called disgusting hairy d*kes together <3''#i had a great time showing off my pit hair at the pool today!#(i get read as a woman when im swimwear cuz i can't hide my body as much. so i get read as a hairy masculine woman.)#i show off my leg hair every time i wear shorts but like. my leg hair is Pathetic#i look practically prepubescent vis a vis my leg hair (my mother still calls it disgusting lmao)#but my pit hair is pretty good#i occupy a weird gendered place in society where i am more of a man in identify but society genders me as a woman#the only time i feel remotely okay being seen as a woman is when i am seen as a BAD woman. a woman who cannot/will not be A Proper Lady#it's not an entirely ACCURATE view of me but there's Something in it

My name is [BRUTUS] and my name means [HEAVY] so with a [HEAVY] heart I'll guide this dagger Into the heart of my enemy
Something about having absolutely no choice in who you marry. About being literally forced by the law to spill blood - to accept this stranger as your husband over a man you truly care for or accept the fact that the man you love might die because you put him in danger. Something about risking becoming the wife of a man you've never even seen before a few minutes prior because you know anything would be better than putting your beloved in harm's way. Something about the trust inherent in that decision and in the way she speaks of it after. Truthfully, T'Pring doesn't know the captain and she doesn't know Spock. Either one of them could have taken her as their wife but she does know Stonn. She knows that Stonn will remain by her side no matter what. They made a plan together. They have an agreement which T'Pring believes will be upheld even though the plan changed with the arrival of Kirk. Stonn will always be there, always, and Stonn will be hers. Something about the language used around T'Pring: Ownership, subservience, non-personhood. T'Pring is an object that Spock can win. She cannot reject him, she has no say in the matter other than having Stonn 'claim' her instead. Even when Spock leaves after being very clearly rejected by T'Pring he says "Stonn, she is yours." as if despite her clear rejection he still owns her and is must formally 'give' her to Stonn. But the language T'Pring uses around Stonn is a break from that: "There was Stonn who wanted very much to be my consort, and I wanted him." Stonn who wanted very much to be HER consort and she WANTED him. The language here is very particular - It's not, for example: "Stonn wanted me to be his wife" - he is HERS. And she WANTS him. There's a mutual affection there and a strong trust - a trust which seems to be well founded since Stonn (though silent) stands by her side at the end of the episode. <- That might seem small but if Spock would reject her for 'daring to challenge' (again, the language is not 'because I don't want you' but more of an implied disgust at her having the AUDACITY to reject him) then it's not a stretch to assume that it'd be considered an insult in the TOS Vulcan society to NOT choose Stonn as her champion after a prior agreement. Anyway T'Pring was a woman in an impossible situation within a society which saw her as more of an object than a person and she wanted Stonn and Stonn wanted to be hers and she trusted that he would understand if she had to publicly pick someone else to ensure his life would be spared and he did understand.
#amok time#T'Pring i s....T'Pring she....-puts my head through a wall-#PLEASE read under the cut for my rambling about T'Pring in amok time pleasepleaseplease#tired of 'T'Pring is evil/a bitch' and VERY uninterested in 'T'Pring is a girlboss'#T'Pring is a person in a society which doesn't think she has the right to make her own choices who's in [love] with a man who [loves] her#back in what I'd like to think is implied to be a slightly subversive way in its mutual and fervent nature (whether the writers thought#this was a good or bad thing - who knows. We know better RIGHT??)#and yes I will stylize T'Pring's hair differently every single time I draw it HEHEHE#star trek tos#Spock#T'Pring#also of COURSE something something spock/kirk & stonn/t'pring parallels: To keep your beloved safe you have to force someone else to kill#theirs - not BC you hate him (you don't) but you don't love him either and why does HE get to have you even if you don't want him?? Why doe#he get to 'give' you to the person YOU chose?? It's not a hatred on a person level (which I wanted to portray with the 'brothers') portion#but a sort of societal embodying.#I will think about T'Pring not wanting to be 'the consort of a legend' every damn day !!!#They really could have laid it on thick in making her evil guys...T'Pau even makes a comment about Spock's 'vulcan blood is thin'#but all T'Pring says is that Spock is a legend and she doesn't want that for her life. She wants Stonn.#And you're gonna sit there and you're gonna tell her that she's wrong!??? Spock doesn't even want to be with her!! Why is she so hated!?#CAN WE FREE MY GIRL??? She did all that but it's being read in the worst faith possible!!#comix page#bea art tag#star trek art#She literally says the word 'FREE'...she's TRAPPED!!!

i'm really curious about what marcille's mother's deal is. seems like she's not too big on the rest of elven society. here's what we know about her so far:
mage at a human royal court (adventurer's bible)
courtship with marcille's father donato lasted 17 years (adventurer's bible)
specialty is roast pork, which was also donato's favorite (chapter 81)
had a cheerful personality up until the point donato got too sick to eat his favorite food. her extreme emotional reaction to this left a lasting impression on marcille (chapter 81)
remarried to a gnome and moved away from the city at some point after donato died (adventurer's bible)
several portraits of her appear in marcille's nightmare (chapter 42); this is the second time we see marcille dream of her (chapter 3)
preferred non-elven food and didn't introduce marcille to any traditional elven dishes (chapter 74)
from the canaries' reactions in chapter 74, it appears elven society looks down on elves who go to live among and work for short-lived races. they seemed especially put off that she would have a mixed-blood child. when they're talking about the lyrikmumare to get marcille to trip up, marcille envisions her mother saying that the food "here" (i.e., the northern continent) tastes so much better. so the picture we're getting here is of an elf who has removed herself from elven culture, but the question is, did she do it willingly or was she forced to?
keeping her other actions in mind, i'm leaning more towards the former. the most intriguing thing for me is that she eventually married a gnome, despite elves and gnomes having infamously waged war against each other over differences in the practice of magic and presently tending to discriminate against the other on sight. (one thing's for sure ā marcille's mother is winning the idgaf war!)
marcille never talks about her gnome stepfather though, and it's unclear what she thinks of her mother's remarriage. the timing of the remarriage is also a mystery. donato married marcille's mother when he was 32 (after having courted her for 17 years) and died at 82, meaning they were married for 50 years. marcille is also currently 50 years old, but we know she wasn't born immediately after the marriage: in chapter 81, donato's doppelganger says marcille was born when he'd started "getting on in years." based on marcille's memories of him and the established fact that the average tall-man lifespan is 60 years, i'd hazard that he was in his 50s then. this gives him 30 years or less with marcille ā definitely less than 35, which we know is the age at which she left for the magic academy.
we don't know if marcille's mother remarries before or after marcille leaves (if before, than that's definitely a shockingly short time), but it's interesting that she chose to marry someone from a long-lived race this time. maybe this is her way of ensuring she spares herself another heartbreak? or maybe she *is* still heartbroken and is trying to cover it up.
but. i can't help but kind of agree with chilchuck in chapter 81, that marcille's parents are not blameless for marcille becoming the dungeon lord. since it's apparently well-documented, they surely must have known ā as well-educated people ā that mixed-blood children face not just discrimination but also mental anguish that comes with their unstable aging (not to mention the sterility). so the way they raised marcille feels frankly irresponsible š
anyway. i'd love to get spin-off content where post-adventure marcille and her mother meet again. i feel like there's a lot of unresolved issues there (that can of course be hashed out over a good meal).
#dungeon meshi#marcille donato#what can i say i'm often drawn to mysterious mother characters (often dead)#the toudens' mom too ā we know even less about her!#does marcille's mother hate being an elf??#oh and if i missed any points feel free to reply#marcille doesn't really seem to have strong feelings about elven society#although it appears she might not have interacted with that many other elves before the canaries#i wonder if marcille realized fionil was also a half-elf#i'd like to see them interact as well. get fionil's perspective on lifespan disparities. seems like her dad is the elf#oh wait wait i was also wondering if it's still possible for marcille's mother to get pregnant#what happens if a mixed-blood child is from two long-lived races?#imagine marcille with a baby sibling#speaking of babies everyone kept making digs at her sterility but she never expresses an active wish for children#i just think that's interesting#calemonsito notes

What a plot twist you were. [x]
#Like. The narrator introduces jc to us as the antagonist#Then we got to know him. Not who people think he's. But who he really is#And we saw jc giving wwx a piggyback. Giving him soup. Rescuing him. Putting himself between wwx and any danger (madam yu/wen soldiers)#And even the staged fight. It's yk. Staged#jc wanted to protect wwx at any cost. But wwx wasn't willing to compromise. But jc did#The fight was wwx's idea. Because jc is an enabler (just like jfm and jyl)#jc is ready to bend for his loved ones sake#The point is. Every action jc takes. Is in the name of his loves ones' safety. And surprise. wwx is one of the people jc really cares about#Even after wwx' return. Aside a broken cup. jc isn't doing much to stop wwx or anything. We know that jl was able to free wwx from Zidian#only because jc - Zidian's primary master- wanted it!#And jc fling himself into danger countless times to save wwx even though wwx can't sit still with him for a hot minute#What I wanted to say it's that the jc is presented to us - the mean ungrateful man- is very different from the real jc -#the indulgent uncle who rolls his eyes at his nephew antics. the brother who buries the hatchet for his sister's happiness.#the uncle who kinda wants to help wn to get up from the floor because he was an ass to jc but he helped jl and that's what matters to jc#the sect leader who let two women speak freely their mind in a patriarchy society#People better than me have already said this. shit I can't remember my point lmao#Like. jc is presented as an antagonist but what this man wanted was an apology and an explanation#This post is a mix of a rant I wrote last year (ha) after seeing a bad take. About what I don't remember lmaoo. And me wanting#to make gifs of wzc in this scene. Why does he look so good. It should be illegal. Seriously#jiang cheng#*mgifs

No, never. Missy! I will never stand with Doctor!
#simm!master#missy#gomez!master#tenth doctor#twelfth doctor#doctor x master#doctor who#dwedit#dw#*#not even trying to consistently color this one soz āļø#so i was thinking abt the change in simm!master's attitude from eot (āget out of the wayā) to s10 (āi will never stand with the doctorā)...#and like. what if you voluntarily saved the doctor by throwing yourself back into the time war#the war that you made yourself human to escape from the first time round#dragged back to gallifrey at the mercy of the ppl who you just opposed? (the people who engineered your insanity in the first place?)#when missy asks him to go to gallifrey with her & 12 says ''you'll be clapped irons'' yeah i'm sure it was a great deal more than that#for the deserter. for the person who they cursed as a child & still failed to bring about their salvation#for the someone who tried to kill the founder of all time lord society#and then when gallifrey is saved... does the doctor (again: whose life you saved!!! when you last saw each other) come looking for you? no#you have to get yourself out. and when you find yourself trapped & the doctor finally does appear... what does he say to you?#''so they cured your little condition and kicked you out'' !!!!#like. yeah. i think simm!master is totally in the right for not listening to a single thing 12 says past that point. lmao.

At this point, gender nonconformity is about what the person says their experience is.
If a woman with a beard or a man with lipstick and a mustache says they're gender nonconforming, then they are! If a woman with short hair or a man with long hair says they aren't, they aren't! And that's not even getting into the awesome nonbinary, abinary, genderqueer, intersex, and general genderfuckery that may both be and not be conforming.
So much of what is even considered gender conforming or gender nonconforming is based on a world of exclusion. When we start defining one's conformity with whether they fit into white cishetero perisex standards or not, we play into the idea that there's only a very narrow window of what is considered worthy of time and thought.
#gender nonconformity#gnc#queer#like. for instance a native man who keeps long hair might be considered GNC by white standards but for him it's absolutely not nonconformit#there's an aspect of white supremacy that silences everything else while saying that other culture's silence is indicative of whiteness...#...being 'correct' or 'moral' or 'neutral'#and as somebody who's trans and last i checked white i have my own thoughts from my own experiences#like how i don't consider myself to really be a GNC man. i'm just. man+#i'm a weird concoction of weird soup that tastes like a man but if it were Wrong#and i just don't see that as not conforming to manhood like it is seperate. i see it as irrevocably linked TO manhood#it is others who have excluded and exiled me from manhood because of *their* understanding of me and how i 'fit in' in cissexism#while i will never ever say i know what it's like to not be white i will say these conversations that PoC have started have been INVALUABLE#i am forever grateful to have been extended the patience and faith to listen in on the experiences of people...#...who are racialized in terms of gender and how they do/don't 'fit in' with often white supremacist views on gender/dynamics#may have made a post like this years back but. eh. arrest me officer i will not back down#i've been more and more 'gnc' as i go into my transition and i don't see it as nonconformity but as an outlet for my masculinity#which is why i'm not insecure about my crafts and creations. because it is coming from a male whether or not it's considered 'manly'#i have little to *no place* in cissexist society so why should i put any stakes into if they ~accept~ me#made this post while jamming out to skyrim's tavern OST (paused my game to write this)#why the HELL does the skyrim tavern music have to go SO HARD. i NEED to slam down BARRELS of mead while listening to this istg#i don't even LIKE honey so i haven't tried mead but. for skyrim i would.

have you ever considered...that identifying out of woman/girlhood because you don't relate to the societal implications, expectations, etc... contributes to making womanhood (feel) even more restrictive? maybe you feel better when thinking of yourself as anything but a girl/woman because you do not feel like a woman (what does that even mean?) but in my opinion you just added another brick into the prisonwall that is gender.
#just my opinion#i wish it was more accepted to question gender identity and to encourage others to question WHY they dont feel like#they āfitā their gender#and your actions have consequences for others too#there will be girls after you who UNDERSTANDABLY hate being perceived as female but their take away will not be that society sucks for wome#and needs to be changed and change happens with every gnc woman and girl who stands her ground and says fuck you to the gendered expectatio#placed upon her from the moment of her birth#but she will take away that as she does not fit the narrow societal definition of womanhood that there is no space for her in it and#that SHE needs to change and this goes on and on until womanhood is simply the label for people who present the most sexist stereotype of#what a woman is#and the fact that i get asked for my pronouns since having short hair and the girl with long hair next to me isnt is a fucking sign of that#and also i beg you to question why a pronoun a tiny word other ppl use when talking about you is SO loaded with negative/positive#implications that it holds so much importance for you#all this applies specifically for ppl without dysphoria btw#i also believe that dysphoria is at least heavily influenced by societal expectations too but its a bit more complicated#personal#you may send me death threats now lol i dont even care anymore#radfem safe#radblr#radfems do touch

#the magnus archives#some of yall online still talk about people this way....#'oooh they did the worst crimes so its totally okay for guards to beat them and torture them and murder them'#ive said before and i'll say it again. its not ABOUT whether they 'deserve' it#its about whether YOU deserve to do that sort of violence to someone who is completely at your mercy#its about what that does to a person and a society#and its about how dangerous a precedent it sets#to be able to completely unperson someone.#human rights HAVE to be unalienable or they arent rights

yasaka (miss psychological warfare) being entirely bamboozled by mitsumi working at face value is pretty amusing ngl
#not yet fully absorbed what this chapter told us about yasaka tbh. but whilst she does want to 'win' the guys#the impact that has on her relationship with girls is actually pretty fascinating. say... the thing with the cinema tickets#did she ignore the implications or genuinely not realise them wrt his gf? because sure it could be the former but if it's the latter#then her struggling to build relationships with girls is more a cycle that feeds into it itself than sth intended maliciously#and is weirdly something she'd have in common with mitsumi in terms of missing undertones.#but also yasaka only picking up what she's focusing on (winning) and reading malicious intent into interactions with other girls#means that she's so ill-equipped when it comes to making relationships with /anyone/ frankly#which is fascinating when she's first presented as this more savvy character. her choosing to try + wade into the undertones#has just left her /lonely/. (also. the boy stuff being about 'winning' rather than any kind of lasting romantic relationship is hm.)#skip to loafer#stl manga spoilers#she's weirdly reminding me of that chara from blue flag I'm blanking on the name of rn#(which also ties into how if yasaka just ignores the implications wrt his gf is she actually in the wrong for that necessarily?#friends can go to the cinema together after all. it being construed as some kind of cheating/date by society simply because#they're a girl and boy going together is kinda... yeah.)

thinking about todd and his resolve towardā¦ not quite isolation, but being alone in a room full of people again. he goes along to the study room to sit on his own and do his homework, he sits at the poets table and follows along with whatās being said while keeping quiet, he goes to the meetings at all but doesnāt necessarily contribute (in fact, if you watch him when cameron is telling the story āfrom camp in sixth gradeā, you can see that he recognizes it before any of the other poets but doesnāt voice it until they all have). heās not alone, necessarily, if you want to get technical about it, heās just lonely, and heās generally okay with that. he doesnāt have friends and thatās fine, he doesnāt participate in class and thatās fine, he doesnāt have a relationship with his family and thatās fineāhe could live without any real connection and heād have been, more or less, fine.
the thing about when he says āi can take care of myself just fine!ā is that he isnāt really wrong, you can infer that heās been doing it his entire life anyway, itās that ātaking care of yourselfā isnāt the same thing as really living or being happy. toddās an introvert, certainly, and even as he gets closer to the group he defaults to sitting quietly in the background, but heās also denying himself community out of fear not introversion. todd isnāt friendless because heās an introvert, although that definitely plays a part, heās friendless because he pushes anyone that might want his company away. if anyone has every wanted for his attention in the first place. (neilās unwavering interest in him is unique (even when it comes to the rest of the poets, who are fine with todd coming along and joining the group, but arenāt really hellbent on him being there in the beginning) and his refusal to accept it is a direct result of being so lonely growing up.)
thereās obviously something to be said about the implications of his parents neglect, and the more than likely fact that he grew up friendless, and how those both play a part in in him being so skilled at dodging social interaction/being so avoidant of it, but by the time we see him in the movie heās all but accepted his fate as being alone his entire life. heās already accepted being the family disappointment, and heās already accepted heāll never amount to anything, and he obviously doesnāt like it, but heād have managed living with that knowledge without the confirmation that it was all wrong. would he have been miserable? almost certainly. but heād have managed. heād done it for that long already, anyhow.
#and like obviously itās BAD in the long run and his isolation IS only making his life worse butā¦ genuinely heād have been alright#all things considered#itās super interesting to me how itās neil who starts the domino effect of toddās life becoming Less Shit#both by beliving in him and putting faith in him that heās never seen before and refusing to let him hide away#but it isnāt a savior moment on neilās part#and i find it so odd when people frame it as one#todd is likeā¦ actively irritated at him in that scene š#neil is right that todd needs to get out of his shell and put himself out there and Believe in himself#but todd canāt accept it yet because he canāt see what neil sees in him yet and doesnāt believe it exists at all#and it frustrates him because unlike everyone else neil REFUSES to give up on him#and as far as todds concerned itāll be for nothing#as far as toddās concerned āneil isnāt a savior or a hero in that scene heās an annoyance#a necessary one in the grand scheme of things but an annoyance all the same#i think people forget that just because todd DOES want to break out of his shell (ādonāt you think you could be?ā / āno! iā¦ i donāt know!ā +#ācome on you heard keating donāt you want to *do* something about it?ā / ā*yes* butā¦ā) doesnāt mean he knows how or believes he actually CAN#todds autonomy can be taken away from him a lot (ironic) and he can be twisted into someone with no opinions or thoughts or whims +#outside of neil but that isnāt really the case#and a part of that blame lands on the movie because todd doesnāt get explored a lot but thereās still evidence of him being his own person#heās not a yesman and he tells neil when his ideas are stupid (keeping the audition from his father) or he just doesnāt personally agree +#(the entire ānoā scene) and he functions perfectly well when neil isnāt around and while they arenāt focuses +#there are short scenes where todds alone or scenes that start eith them apart that make it clear they arenāt attatched to each other +#in the way people can often write them to be (that is in the trenches if the other is missing)#this post and all these tags are my long winded way of saying FUCK the codependent anderperry thing some people subscribe to it makes me#mad#neilās goal is to help todd grow into himself and become his own person and find his identity more than anything#and todd doesnāt need neil to hold his hand to do literally anything and everything heās a normal guy with anxiety#come on guys#dps#dead poets society#todd anderson
