Whenever I get into the Jace hireling au it's his relationship with Ragh that I find the most fascinating. Does Jace know Ragh saw him? Does he know that Ragh told the others that he saw him? He could totally explain it away if Ragh asks him about it and pretend he has no idea about Kalina's threats, but would Ragh want to risk his mom's life trusting that this guy isn't in on it?

Oh my god SORRY this took a hot sec i got super distracted but had a lot of thoughts but they are also kinda formless and i kept dragging my feet but. I think about this so much too. And i feel bad b/c i feel like im such an opinionated bitch who loves to come to conclusions abt shit but i honestly don't know what ragh would do in that situations (that being said, i do love to hold things in both hands. So many possibilities...)

I really do love Ragh (there's a lot of refreshing queerness in FH but there is something abt him i like especially) and i love when his interiority is taken very seriously and i feel like the throughline for that is he's just so loyal w/ this sense of fraternity w/ the owlbears, w/ his friends, and how earnestly he loves his mom. Ragh is obviously a little too trusting with people he likes and respects, people who are often authority figures who can give him direction, so the question is, if Jace gave him an explanation for what happened. Does he like and respect Jace? Maybe. He probably doesn't know Jace but i imagine there's some degree of jaceporter always a duo overlap that he is somewhat familiar with Jace. Compelled also by what Ragh's relationship to Porter might be. He was obviously very attached to daybreak bc he was. groomed, and Ragh does embody a lot of the traits of an ideal barbarian in Porter's eyes so I imagine he would probably be pretty good in that class.

But he's so protective over Lydia and idk how Jace could bounce back from that if she's at risk. I don't think he's particularly good at keeping secrets tho. So If there's a chance the bad kids hear that Ragh saw Jace talking to Kalina, if they tried to keep it a secret that they know, that they're suspicious of them, would they be able to manage that? like. I don't know if Jace knows Ragh told everyone right away, but i think he could find out soon enough. I honestly don't know how to reconcile what the party would DO with jace once they knew. Or could he talk he way out of it. He could even play the stupidity angle, i had no idea, i was a pawn in this. I know he hates when ppl view sorcerers as dumb but maybe this time it can bail him out. The bad kids are often suspicious kids (i mean riz is right there in the center of all this, and Fig is fig), but i do think they have this perception of Jace that kinda underestimates him.

(He could always say give the "earnest" or earnest answer. Someone wanted to steal his goddess lol. I have so many thoughts abt him n cassankarna... Anyway Maybe that could buy him some goodwill back. I fucked up but it was for my own reasons. But i digress)

Was never much of a fan of grumbo/mumscarian. BUT!!! This is because I’m MOSTLY LIFE SERIES VIEWER!!! I only casually enjoy hermitcraft and don’t watch it often. And I KNOW that’s where the ships come from, so all of the life series version of the ship just feels so forced. Which sucks cuz I do actually see some potential for it in like Last Life that would be a hilarious ship!! I definitely lean Grumbo because even in the life series you can see it, tho I see it mostly grian-sided with mumbo technically reciprocating it but not realizing how problematic it is to be dancing around the feelings in the middle of a death game. But that’s just me.

I USED TO BE A GRITHO HATER (but not a full on hater. Just the slightly negative feelings as portrayed here). I remember during limited life I kept seeing gritho stuff and I was like “it’s not gonna happen 🙄” then it happened and I was like 🤯 and bowed down to all the gritho shippers. I also had divine intervention in the form of a dream telling me to ship gritho and now I love them.

Flower husbands is a complicated one that is seen on many negative tiers and I will admit I don’t always like it. But sorry guys I like it just don’t watch Scott’s 3L otherwise you will be traumatized for life

It feels like a lot of them are missing the point. My sister is the one who got me into ranchers and even she agrees that a majority of the rancher fan content out here just isn’t it. Random question, but what's your favorite FHS characters (either from the OG show or your rewrite/AU)?

In the original Freddy, Fred, Bonnie, and Bon immediately caught my attention. I saw Freddy and insanely went 'just like me fr', Fred was duel wielding that fun to watch with underlying tragedy, Bonnie was incredibly fun, I loved how fun he was and how snarky he could be super early on. Some of bons lines, a couple of his songs, just really struck my head and made me go wow! I can work with this! So I did, and for those four I feel like I've kept them relatively the same as their OG counterparts? I dunno, I wouldn't be able to tell from here on the inside, but they all have their roots in the original, pieces I took, pieces i rejected, things i twisted and amplified. Its fun! If you want me to talk about a specific character, I reeeeeeally like how we changed up Golden. Neither of us particularly like canon Golden, so we changed them up. Here is a summary of what I'll be talking about below the cut lmao.

They are still rich, they are not the insane 1% drinking out of gold chalices or whatever, but they are very well off, they are super comfortable. Could have had the opportunity to go to a private school of choice types. Anyways uhhh. Golden, their full name is Golden Belmonte, we gave them nonbinary they/them swag, and then we gave them some more interests and a different family background!! they are Ecuadorian, and the bear they are reflects that.

They are an Andes bear, also known as a spectacles bear or oso de anteojos! It looked like (to me) the spectacles bear had a star shaped pattern on its chest, so I gave Golden a star shaped birth mark. Anyways, this bear is very small. And in comparison to what you normally picture a bear as, they are t i n y, they are smaller than a person (while down on all four paws, they are below the average humans waist.) And with much softer hair as well. Golden reflects both these qualities. They have soft hair and have a different, much rounder and softer build in contrast to all the other bears. Fred/dy, Toddy, Deuz, and Fede all have much bigger, broader, square-er builds.

^ for facial comparison between all the bears. Please ignore how i forgot Golden's eyebrows. (yeah we completely changed Fede, sue me) Visually, we changed Golden's expression range and hairstyle. The hair re-do was done by me, inspired by 50s/60s women hairstyles. I was particularly inspired by Marilyn Monroe, purely visually, and in reference to that, Golden sometimes paints a little Monroe beauty mark on themselves. I also made their hair curly, and kept that odd little asymmetrical/ side-swept (?) thing the original has going on. My best friend Pia changed up their expression range, making them much less expressive. Very little facial expressions, but that does but mean emotionless! Their vocal tone is the same, very little emotion conveyed. Very flat, very monotone, all that. Golden certainly has the ability to push out and present tone and expression, but that would take effort, they just naturally don't. They also have eye-bags naturally,and always have their head tilted to the side Golden is in the student council, very efficient, on top of all their work, lends a hand to anyone who asks, they're academically smart, but bad at social queues. Autism swag.

Genuinely though, they're autistic. They're quite blunt and literal either don't make eye-contact at all or stare directly into your eyes without breaking the hold, they stim by: > bobbing on their tippy-toes, > holding their arms completely parallel to their sides clench their fists then fan out their hand then repeat the motion, > applying pressure to themselves by stepping on their own feet and clasping their hands together or, again, clenching their fists, > doing a sort of 'banging' motion with their arms, as if you're hitting something with your fists, idk how else to describe it lol they also fidget mindlessly with things like drawstrings of a sweater and hold their arms in the t-rex position by default.

Anyways their special interest is architecture, they love it. They also have a special interest on Pokemon, and they enjoying singing and dancing. Their favorite Pokemon is Mimikyu. They are friends with Spring, and got them both matching sweaters. Springs was Pikachu and their own was Mimikyu. They're also open to being social and making friends, especially if they can talk with people about their interests. Here's a shitty concept comic about it

Their family life. Woooooo! It's not a straight forward issue. Lol. Okay so, their family is very close knit, at least in concept. They all share ownership of a company while running different subsections as individuals. Their whole company is a sort of culture center. Some family members sell traditional Ecuadorian, Venezuelan, and Colombian clothing. Others sell food, sweets, ingredients, or teach history, culture and customs. Joy and Golden learned how to sing and dance from this! They started dancing with from learning traditional dances and songs, doing duets and partnered dancing with each other since childhood. Yeah. So, family is pretty rich and well off cause it's multiple people under the same company all accumulating and sharing wealth, always there for each-other n such. There's probably more about this i missed, but I'll reblog this and add more if its something significant. ANYWAYS. Thanks for the ask, and I could totally talk about more characters we changed and added intent to but this is long enough as is. Ok sooo..... Loren and Onnie actually met when they were kids! Before Onnie was found by Deuz, he lived in the same town of Loren (I like to think that the Funtimes' past school was in a different town than FHS, a smaller one that doesn't have high schools), Onnie wasn't a very "problematic" kid back then, he was actually well-behaved, but he already had a very short temper, and while he wasn't prone to violence, his classmates always seemed to want to know what happened if they pushed him to the limit.

So a group of kids decided to pick a fight with him, and get Loren involved because... Idk. This school's students love to make people's life hard.

So yeah, they had to go through detention together, and while waiting for their turn they actually started to chat! It wasn't anything deep but the two did become friends. They would talk almost daily, Onnie was the only person Loren opened up to about his problems, onnie knew that and really appreciated that someone thought he was good company...

Well, until he got kicked out of his house. Onnie knew where Loren lived, so he tried to reach her house, but before he could even get to her street, those same kids that got him almost suspended decided to show onnie just how angry they could get, right during his most sensible time.

Fortunately Deuz was walking by before Onnie could get real hurt, and since the kid had nowhere else to go (Deuz wanted him to get away from there asap. He didn't even give onnie the time to think about where he was initially going) he decided to bring onnie with him, to another town (the FHS town), where he was renting an apartment.

Both Loren and Onnie didn't have a phone back then, so they couldn't message each other. Onnie tried to send her a letter to let him at least know he was fine, but Loren soon moved to a new home. And, as onnie would always send the papers to Lori's old address, he never got an answer.

Loren was worried too, Onnie never opened up much about his family issues, but Loren knew his situation wasn't pretty. She was scared something serious happened to him, and he couldn't do anything about it.

Finally, Loren started high school, and even with the relief of having his brother in school and everything, sometimes he still thinks about Onnie and what could have happened to him.

One day Loren missed the bus to school so he had to walk there. It wasn't very far but he had to pass through some scary alleyways. (Usually nothing was there but one orange stray cat, but it was still unsettling to Loren)

She soon noticed a weird figure staring at him, and tried to ignore it, walking faster and visibly scared.

Loren didn't recognise Onnie at all at first, but onnie did. The scars were the same, and his style almost didn't mutate at all.

Onnie had to call out his name to get Loren to recognise him by his voice. Loren there and there struggled to believe his eyes and could have easily just broken down and cried. And even if she didn't cause a scene, she did run towards him and hugged him tightly.

Onnie introduced him to Maggie and Deuz, that at the moment were looking for any neat thing hidden in the trash cans with onnie. (Oxy was in the apartment making himself breakfast and playing with Misfits (he wakes up late)

They never really noticed that they were falling in love. Ever since they reunited they would spend a lot of time together, and onnie would tell him about everything he's done ever since he left his home town. Loren was more than happy just to know her favourite person in the world was okay and alive. She, unlike Onnie, didn't go on many adventures, but Onnie always got him to talk, whether it'd be his favourite music or any project she was or wanted to work on.

The first time they've noticed that their bond was more than "best friendship" is when they've started to notice just how intimate they could get sometimes, and how nice kissing each other would feel, and how much the nightmares and Funtimes would actually tease them about their "relationship"

Really, at first they never noticed or took it seriously, they loved each other, yes, they just thought that was what "best friendship" looked like. The first one to figure it out was Onnie, when Oxy made him realise how he'd spend days in Loren's house.

It took surprisingly long for Onnie to build up the courage to actually ask Loren to a date (like, a romantic one) but he finally asked her out, the night of Halloween, while Loren was celebrating her 15th birthday. In front of the Nightmares and Loren's whole family.

They both - especially Onnie - don't really like to "act like a couple" in public, and rather do all the cheesy things in private, someone that doesn't know them can't really tell if they're more than just friends.

Felix.... he KNEW what was up with both of them and just decided to keep quiet until they'd finally confess their lovely feelings. And he really doesn't mind that his little sibling hangs out with the Nightmares, he's Maggie's childhood friend, and he trusts her enough to believe that she - or any Nightmares - wouldn't let Loren get too hurt or hurt her on purpose.

Still, He likes to be near when Loren plans to stay with the nightmares for more than a day, y'know, protective older brother stuff, and the fact that he knows the nightmares well enough to understand that the things they like to do could be a bit too dangerous, but hey! Loren is a deranged little guy and he has fun with them! Who is Felix for denying her fun??

the thing with writing a 75k wip fic (everyone thinks that they're too young to die) is that it takes up residency in your brain. and when it takes up residency in your brain you start thinking about characters who are not the subject of the 75k fic. like aelwyn abernant. and then you start writing about aewlyn's games. and that's fine. normal, even.

part of the problem with this fic is that i have to make a bunch of ocs bc we never got hudol students/a lot of people aelwyn's age for her to be in the arena with. i made one oc (i was originally going to put her in the fig and cig figs oc zine and then i was like, that's going to bloat this fic so i cut ingrid from that zine, made her aelwyn's age, and wrote about her in my extremely extensive spinoff) but i hadn't gotten around to writing any others, and now with the fhjy announcement, it's like, well, maybe we'll get more npcs aelwyn's age in that so i might as well wait to write it yknow?

i haven't written a lot of this fic, mostly because i'm trying to get the main fic done before i write a lot for the spinoffs of it but here's a fun little scene with ingrid (my frostheim snow elf exchange student at hudol in fh canon and the d2 girl in aelwyn's games in the au).

aelwyn studies ingrid. 

ingrid is tall and lanky in an elegant way that betrays sleek, subtle muscles, and her white hair is pulled back into a tight ponytail. she’s a snow elf with eyes the color of chipped glass. there's an expression on her face that could be a cocky smirk in the right light, but manages to look just neutral enough that her mentor isn’t telling her to play nicely. it's an impressive balance. 

she’s watching one of the slaughterhouse tributes try — and fail — to run the gauntlet. they’re underfed and gangly, their limbs skinny and their cheeks hollow, and when they trip, nearly getting knocked over as they attempt to [idk what the gauntlet looks like off the top of my head] a smug satisfaction bubbles up in aelwyn. she lets out a sharp snicker, and watches as their cheeks flush red. 

ingrid meets aelwyn’s eyes and smirks at her, and aelwyn feels something curl in her belly that she doesn’t quite understand.

yay further sura cane ramblings as a followup from this and this

so my logic is that the fall Did fuck sidestep's body up and presumably the farm's intent was to fix them up enough to be a Functional asset once wiped/reset (as far as pain's concerned and the lack of pain-gate either from being broken by the fall, or being removed, as long as it doesn't interfere with function). this was before they realised step was resisting the reset and an absurdly strong telepath to boot. so maybe there was some stuff that didn't end up happening.

anyway. sura's second escape from the farm. in a hell of a lot of pain from fucked up nerves (particularly lower back) and other things that didn't heal quite right (very much missing having a pain-gate), plus balance issues and fatigue. suddenly sura's seeing things Very differently now they're not abled + noticing a lot of people don't like looking at others with mobility aids, and maybe being useful camo. sura doesn't much Like the idea of being pitied and seen as weak, but making it easier to just be able to get through the day is worth it.

so. sura steals a nondescript folding cane from a small pharmacy (who cares, there's like, a million of em). and wow! it's not just camo, it helps with the exhaustion! great! she can even put it away when it gets inconvenient.

this also means he overcompensates the first few times learning the ropes as juno cos 1, the almost entire foot height difference and 2, reflexively moving as though putting weight on a non-existent walking aid = lotta bruises

(yes, the argos suit is kinda a mobility aid if we're being generous with definitions.)

except sura just grabbing any old cane w/o checking means they don't realize it's too tall for her for THREE. YEARS. and that causes a lot of unnecessary shoulder/upper back/wrist pain.

chen points it out during one of the early hq visits in retri while helping out, suggests to get a shorter one and maybe with offset handles. (maybe he's known a few ex-military people using canes? i feel he'd run in enough circles like that to have some passing knowledge.) and sura just. seething when they begrudgingly take up his advice and find it IS actually helping. cos chen was right and it doesn't want to admit that lmao.

at least chen has the decency not to dwell too long on it when he notices the change in canes. but he is a little smug. (it's fine. she can retaliate with useful suggestions about the new shoulder joint mod.)

but anyway, sura starts customizing the canes by painting/engraving designs on them for a little personalised touch. tech savviness comes in handy! and then there's a variety to match outfits (it counts as an accessory!) + one or two inspired by this one i saw (look at it. LOOK HOW COOL IT IS.) that that May or may not have some plausible deniability about resembling the argos suit's stained glass look lol.

the ones with offset and orthopedic handles for the more heavy duty days (maybe even branching out into crutches, since those give more support, though those would have to be customized) + derby handle for when they want to be more discreet. the mob crew might even pool some of their earnings to buy something resembling a makhila as a present further down the line :D

they also have two styles of cane holster, one from the belt, and the other on the thigh like what they used for the energy-caster as sidestep.

(on the viability of canes as self-defense, it's hit or miss on how good they actually are; what's good for mobility and weight distribution isn't ideal for defense - trying to hybridize the design means you get something that's not really useful in either direction. ie. telescopic stuff is convenient for folding away, but doesn't have much structural integrity if you tried swinging it at someone. same goes for folding canes w/ the bungee cord inside. idk what the capabilities in fh verse's are for materials but i'm erring on the side of caution and saying sura doesn't rely on their canes as a main defensive weapon. there's telepathy for that. they've been working out more anyway what with being argos and training daniel, so some of their pain symptoms improve a bit too! just making sure not to overdo it.)

something abt growing into not being ashamed of needing mobility aids (in fact, being empowering) and that being a sign of growth. absolute power move rocking up the hg meeting with a cane and 120 hgrep like "so? what you gonna do about it"

okay so <3 let's talk about Harrison's guardian angel necklace bc it matters sooo much (and for some reason it's the one piece of OC jewelry I don't own???). In Moth Work, I randomly gave him a necklace and then it turned into a multi-book symbol!

some fun lore before I get into it is that this was lowkey inspired by my kindergarten teacher who used to collect guardian angel pins/brooches!

OKAY SO! It's a small pendant of an angel/cherub though it's described a little inconsistently lol so idk what it looks like (when *I* eventually get one it'll look like That). Originally I described it as a "small wire angel inlaid with the grain-sized opal" which is CUTE but I also describe it with tiny crystals on the wings & in chapter 13 Harrison throws it so hard one of them falls off lollll.

THE LORE is that his mother Suzanna gave it to him (.......... before she abandoned him OOOF) & it's his prized possession! This bit from Feeding Habits explains that history:

Prayer sent him nothing when Suzanna slipped into his room past midnight when everything had settled, kissed him on the forehead. Nothing when she pushed a small golden chain under his pillow for him to and have that be the only thing he’d ever find of her for a decade and a half.

So Harrison really associates that angel not only as a gift from his mother but AS his mother because it's the only thing he had of her for a long time. He wears it under his shirt before he gives it to Lonan at the end of the book (though in SV he keeps it lol like he went "nah it's mineee"), though it exchanges between them a couple times. First time that happens is when Harrison leaves it in his jacket pocket and then Lonan robs him & takes the jacket :) (dw harrison robs him back in fh) & doesn't realize the angel's in there.

From there, it gets STOLEN when Lonan gets beat up by a guy after he unwittingly sleeps with his wife (lol the moth work/feeding habits lonan plots are soooo wild which is probably why hallowed bodies is boring it's BALANCE). This is context of the Lonan Beat Up art:

“I’ll leave,” he says, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. Blood from his eye makes him see only in red. “Just give me back the jacket and the necklace.” When the man raises his fist again, Lonan cringes into the wall and shakes his head. “Please. They belong to a friend.”

Lonan actually feels sooooo bad about losing BOTH iconic harrison paraphernalia, though he and Eliza manage to get them back later in the book. Lucky thing that he continues to wear them after this because Suz (who doesn't know him) sees him at a hospital and recognizes the angel and is like... bro you're not my child!! And Lonan's like ohhhh christttt that's my boyfriend's mommmm!!

She stares at him unashamedly, outlining each ridge of eyelash, jaw. Her eyes are a damp brown, something glittering in them like an unturned landmine. At first, he doesn’t react when she grabs the guardian angel. She thumbs the gem, stroking it carefully, and it’s only when she covers it with her palm like she’s suffocating it that he yanks away and cups it with his own palm.

At one point ELIZA starts wearing the angel necklace (because..... we can make assumptions) & is actually wearing it when Harrison finds Lonan again in part 3 after having the time of his life with Jeremiah:

He’s been staring at her for an hour, but only notices the necklace at this point. The gold chain shimmers under her collar, and a miniature figure presses through her scrubs when she leans forward on her knees. “That’s mine,” he says, reaching for it. Before he can touch the chain, Eliza’s grabbed his hand and pushed it away. The dusty turquoise of her scrubs makes her look even redder with anger. “Your necklace? That’s mine.”

She gives it back to him from there and he wears it for like a couple hours before he and Suz have the argument of the century & he does the aforementioned throwing.

But but but when Lonan takes Harrison to The Beach (very vague location loollll) to calm him down he HAS IT!! Love a man who collects his bf's possessions of the ground <3

“This got me out of a lot of trouble.” Lonan closes his hand around the pendant. It’s only when he pulls his hand back that Harrison realizes he’s been holding his since they first sat down—the absence of it cold and sudden. Lonan undoes the clasp, and drapes the chain around Harrison’s neck, so the pendant hits his breastbone.

He wears it for the rest of the book before he gives it to Lonan at the very end when he knows he is Done and Leaving lol

He almost says something but catches himself. He knows whatever he will say will keep him here, in this sun, on this barstool, reading the newspaper about moths, sitting next to Lonan, drinking his tea, never knowing what flavour it is. Harrison inhales, and on his exhale, unclasps the chain and drapes it around Lonan’s throat.

Anyway so from then on Lonan wears it! Harrison doesn't canonically take it back! I'm not sure if he would. Maybe I should write MW 3 to find out :))) this is them talking about it though when they first reunite!

“Are you wearing my necklace?” Harrison asks. His voice is dampened by the snow ledged against the windows. The pendant’s gone from coast to coast, seen things even Harrison hasn’t. Lonan doesn’t move. His eyes remain closed. He fidgets with the angel, says, “Yes.” “Why?” “If you want it back, I’ll give it to you.” “That’s not why I’m asking.”

So that's the story of the angel necklace! I actually don't know how Suzanna herself got it since it is hers, but I'd assume it was a gift or also passed down to her.
