thoughts on shay so far

-she gets together with both guybrush and elaine. opposite of a homewrecker. homefixer

-while she’s rarely distressed, does the primate grim thing when she is

-i feel like she’s been around for every MI game, just a little older than guybrush

-insanely tall and she makes good use of it, likes threatening people with her size and strength

-probably uses her primate strength on the jaw too with her fangs

-is often seen hanging out at the scumm bar, probably telling her tales to others, arm wrestling with others (nearly always wins), or drinking like there’s no tomorrow yet barely being drunk

-rather feared by other pirates, will wreck your shit

-very loud, often yells her words

-with that, often does things like banging her fist on the table after a good joke is told, maybe bangs it a little too strongly

-knows about guybrush and elaine, finds them peculiar and interesting, gets excited when she finally meets them but in a “i need to study what’s wrong with them” way, especially on guybrush

-guybrush is like a chewtoy to her, finds elaine easy to fluster

truly so funny to me that the awesome action heroes are constantly referring to each other by their real world names IN the movie (especially izzy, unsurprisingly, but like. paula literally name drops liv in front of all the sidewinders and NO ONE questions it. even in her intro sequence she mentions HERSELF to kochiusko. don’t even get me started on the hotel bar scene in ep2. usha the old lady from the store…) but they face zero consequences for this until brennan decides to make paula slam poetry her fake son back to life. five episodes in. absolutely insane i love this season so much

random lore + some extra tidbits below the cut

OKAY this is all pretty loose bc i don't wanna get top restrictive with it, the vagueness is half the fun. but here's what i got:

in the “HIVE canon”, sector heads/ranking officers (which for now is just leander and COL ig until i eventually cave and make more lmao) are specifically given custom uniforms and number prefixes instead of the CR[insert number here] format.

the “M” in front of leander’s stands for medbay. COL didn’t pick one so it’s just his name lol.

crewmates can wear any accessories they want as long as the base uniform stays the same (bee arm patches, grey, etc). all crewmate numbers gotta start with CR to be canon, but that doesn't apply to shitpost comics or like. general vibes

(there’s a reason the crew uniforms are grey. it’s the same reason leander made the captain’s gloves. )

the ship shuffles itself! it's not random all of the time, sometimes you open a door and end up in the room you were heading to like a shortcut, but other times you can open a random door and end up in the kitchen, or the training hall, etc etc. i just think an eldritch abomination ship is funny.

weirdly enough though it doesn’t do this in crisis situations. guess it’s only fun if the pranks are harmless ;;

if you get lost, call the captain (ello! o7) or COLONY over comms. they can generally get you wherever you need to go bc COLONY is directly connected to the ship and the captain’s able to make [INQUIRIES], which let us pass freely.

it’s kind of hard to tell if leander has a similar ability. the running theory is no, but he never seems confused?? when he enters a room?? so either he has one or he really just rolls with the punches. both are equally possible tbh.

in actual lore these two were probably some of if not the first few people to be recruited. obvs that’s a retcon now but shhh.

random characters from fandoms still get dragged into our shenanigans. at the end of the day this is all just for fun, and that’s one of the best parts, so hell yeah i’m keeping it.

See but the thing about aro barney is that in black mesa, gordon seemed far too involved in his work to bother with romantic relationships. That really just wasn’t on his list of priorities. And honestly, his colleagues were mostly older men anyway. Not that barney could really say if gordon wasn’t gay. He didn’t seem to be… but it wasn’t like he was going to ask (that would give the wrong impression, for one thing. A similarly romantically-uninvolved guy asking his best guy friend if he was gay? Best not open that can of worms).

Anyway, there seemed to be very little risk of romantic involvement for his friends in black mesa, like it was an underground bunker built to keep bombs and romance out. And Barney could relax, and not worry about his best friend suddenly abandoning him because he went and got goo-goo eyes for someone he’d just met.

And then the rescas happens and he loses him anyway. And then, miraculously, he comes back. And then he’s spending all his time with a beautiful young woman, and obviously they’ve got bigger things to worry about than romance, except the next time he sees him, he is making goo-goo eyes at her when he thinks she’s not looking. And yeah, there it is. He thought he had his friend back, but he didn’t. Gordon was back, but they wouldn’t be friends like they were before. He knew how it went. But he still cared about him. He was happy for him. Really. He wished them the best. At this point, he was used to never getting what he wanted, anyway.
