i love TOL so much its actually gimving me brain worms im a huge comic nerd and it gives off the same vibe as some of my fav comics ever like serenity rose or lost at sea or the gulf it feels like an old alt 'classic' i wouldv read when younger and changed my brain chemistry (it still is)... so so good and your paneling and page layout and characterisation all make it flow so well and its so easy to get invested in the characters.. jamie and santiago are real and They are my Friends... their dynamic and world feel so lively and real.... i love how you play with comic conventions in using the thought/narrative bubble and turning it into voiced speech its so clever and awesome... your inking is so alive and dynamic... i havent been this ThinkingAbout a comic in ages. would buy in print. ps do u have any comic reccomendations/what comics inspires you?

My main inspirations for making TOL were black and white comics I read as a kid but didn't fully understand at the time, like Bone, This One Summer, and (like you mentioned) Lost at Sea!

Lost at Sea in particular was a huge emotional cornerstone for me when I was younger, and was one of the main reasons I kept TOL in black and white. I read it when I was too young to really understand what the characters were going through, but I could tell there was something really emotionally powerful going on below the surface, and it stuck with me into adulthood. The fact that the world in that story had been abstracted by only existing in black and white only made it more mysterious and fascinating to me.

I have such an affinity for B&W comics. It simultaneously makes a piece feel more obtuse and obscured without the specificity of color, but it also makes it all the more personal and unique to each reader who fills in the gaps with their imagination. That's what I'm going for with TOL anyway.

I know some people have only read comics like Bone and Scott Pilgrim in color because it adds a whole new level of artistic expression to enjoy in a story, but I encourage people to revisit their favorite comics if they were originally printed in b&w to see how different they feel without color.

As for other comics I recommend, I really love Blankets, Keeping Two, Ducks, and The Sculptor.

These are all sophisticated creme de la creme novels that really touch on some intensely beautiful themes, and I can't recommend them enough to people who want to read a comic with some real maturity.

But what if you like comics with action and fantasy and cool shit that are also top of the line? Then I recommend Kaya, Ultramega, Do A Powerbomb, and most importantly: Coda.

These comics are so amazingly well drawn and are told incredibly well, but Coda, drawn by Matias Bergara and written by Si Spurrier is probably my favorite comic ever and I recommend it to literally everyone. It's the comic that pulled me out of my era of reading shonen manga slop and made me start reading western comics obsessively.

The duo also made Step By Bloody Step, a comic told without any words- only pictures. This is the kind of thing you have to read if you want to really understand what the comics medium is capable of.

ANYWAY. That's my reading list. Creators like Hayao Miyazaki, Cliff Chiang, Moebius, Frank Pe, Kei Urana, and Ryoko Kui are also amazing and you should check out their works as well.

I'm making physical copies of TOL chapter 1, and at the end I'm also gonna include a reading list of comics made by indie creators who I'm lucky enough to call my friends for people to check out, but that's a post for a different time.

I hope people will read at least one book from this list. Thanks for reading my ramblings!

Cookie Run Kingdom is a KOREAN GAME, with KOREAN VALUES where they originally write the story in the KOREAN LANGUAGE which has POLITENESS LEVELS that the English translators ate either trying so hard to convey or couldn't give any less shit about even trying to accurately convey it that it still ends up not making sense. (Shamil in this case ESPECIALLY?? The other Beasts were simply toned down violence) (This is not aggressive, this is Homestuck capitalization method emphasizing.)

English Shamil is just the product of the English translators attempt to make a character that would highly appeal towards Western fans, aka: Tumblr Sexyfication™️. Everything he says might be "canon" but there's this evil we call the English Localization who ruins everything for everyone for the sake of money. They even only provided CJ with less information about his character that reduced him into a "male harlequin" when the Korean voice makes him more noticable that he wasn't always a jester. Jesters in real life also used to be scholars but they refuse to even acknowledge that? How to you mess up THIS BAD that it wasn't intentional??

Majority of Korean Shamil kingdom interaction lines are not only silly, there are at times where he's genuine or just straight up unhinged.

Genuine: "Cookie of Knowledge? I used to be called that~"

Unhinged: "Wolf! A wolf appeared!!!... Really, or not?" "Have you ever lied? Then we've already met~" (This bitch wants us dead, bro.)

An entirely different line(also unhinged): "If you trust me, I'm a liar. If you don't, I'm a bad cookie. What's your choice?!" (What the FUCK are you talking about😭) replaces "If I told you I'm a liar, would that be a lie?" (this is just silly :/)

And comparing those to the English lines, En ONLY makes him look silly.

And I have NEVER seen this many Cookie Run ads before, and all of them are Shadow Milk. They never did this with Burning Spice or Mystic Flour. What I even find So ANNOYING about the english crk channel is how much they're exploiting people's Shamil favoritism into watching a lot of their videos because it's about Shamil.

ohhhhh jayce talis the kids miss you 💔💔💔 im genuinely appalled at both the fandom and the arcane writers. specifically the arcane writers for mentioning very heavy plot points then never exploring them again. cuz what do you mean we see jayce surviving off of pretty much nothing, with a broken back, leg, shoulder, and a possible brain injury, slowly going insane? we see the whismy drain out of him in record time, only for the next time we see him in episode 8 hes perfectly fine and he just needed a shower and it turns out the violent hallicinations he was having in episode 6 were literally just a viktor proximity sensor and not at all trauma induced??? like episode 6 was setting him up as having gone conpletely insane, shooting viktor, having an episode in a public area, like, the actual possibilities to explore his trauma were thrown away cuz the writers needed him to be this serious soldier guy. not to mention how his leg disability is never fucking mentioned again except for his leg brace breaking in a blink-and-youll-miss-it shot, only for him to easily run to mel afterwards as if his leg was never injured. like...??? we just got shown a full episode of him enduring mind bending trauma only for them to show us jayce being perfectly fine, conpletely juxtaposing episode 6!! honestly respect to the animators and music artists for making such good content for a season with such horrific writing.the arcane writers fumbled every character so bad that despite the atrocious writing for jayce he somehow manages to get the best arc out of every other main character in the whole show.

oh, and dont get me STARTED. on the fandom's perception of jayce. 94% of so called 'jayce fans' are literally only interested in jayvik, and 67% of those are only interested in viktor within the ship. we have a man who suffered tremendously and the only thing people can fucking say about it is "no way it mirrored viktors life 🥺🥺🥺" even though it BARELY did, my biggest point being that viktor had to metaphorically climb out of zaun whereas jayce had to literally climb out (and, probably with his leg still half broken, causing it to get fucked up more as he climbed) !!! like, every time I see a fic where jayce doesnt shoot viktor and he brushes off his time in the au like it was nothing a piece of me dies inside. its literally the same as vi's prison trauma being shortened down to like, one line she said in s1. i dont understand why both the fandom and arcane itself really likes to pick and choose which character is allowed to be traumatized, like: jinx- yes vi- no, viktor-yes (?) jayce - no, ekko - no, like... all of these characters have horrific trauma, why are only a few actually aknowledged??? okay okay rant over guys, ive had all these points stewing in my head for weeks and i needed to get them out somewhere, seeing all the reblogs and comments healed me knowing there are other people who aknowledge jayces trauma too

We’ve known from day 1 that Jayce holds onto his trauma from the blizzard. It’s the cold, the loneliness, the helplessness. It’s the root of his anxiety. It’s the pressure behind his motivation. Decades later and he still fusses over loved ones being cold.

The ravine is already awful for any character but it doubled down on all the things Jayce specifically is weak to. All of the things he struggles the most with were shoved at him on top of an already horrible situation

All this to say: his mental state Was Not Intact or Stable. He had been eating raw amphibian for ages by the time he had access to fire, and I do not think he was fully checked in when he got to that point. Guy was operating on autopilot. This is so upsetting I hate it here

Something about Tucker being held to a higher standard than all of the other Reds and Blues in the later seasons. Sure he likes sex and makes “that’s what she said” esque sex jokes, but like, especially during Shisno trilogy, the show seems to really like putting him down or treating his love for sex like a comedic punching bag. Oh, Tucker’s a single dad who genuinely loves and cares about his one alien kid despite how that kid was forced upon him? Well actually he had sex with a TON of women on Chorus by using the fuck temple and now has a ton of kids that he’s reluctant to pay child support for. And speaking of the temple, despite it being said to make everyone on the planet super horny and sex obsessed, Tucker says he didn’t feel any different, because making him hypersexual is funny (why is it funny, RT?). And remember how Tucker’s arc during Chorus had him emotionally dealing with Felix’s betrayal? Well now he falls for the most obvious manipulative lies from Temple, I guess he’s just dumber now. And you remember that funny scene in season 5 where Doc is giving Sister a physical exam, and Tucker obviously really wants to see her naked, but because Doc keeps telling him to not come in, and likely out of respect, he doesn’t, while Red Team is secretly perving on her (which they never fucking get called out for), plus all the funny moments of him trying to flirt with her, and her either being receptive or so fucking weird that it takes him aback? Well Tucker still REALLY wants her, but he’s now a childish asshole who can’t stand the idea of her not wanting to sleep with him, and is now super self centered despite the arc he went through showing how he values others, and the series basically keeps fucking with him and making him miserable and barely ever giving him a moment of relief. And you know how he was mercilessly tortured for M O N T H S during Restoration? Well he doesn’t get to process that trauma, and despite all the growth he’s supposedly gone through throughout the series, his last moment is an offscreen sex joke because Tucker’s the perv, get it? We can’t let him have a fucking break despite literally everyone else being treated comparatively nicer or given some kind of levity. Why specifically Tucker, Rooster Teeth? What has he done that’s so bad to you that you continually treat his character this way despite the fact that he’s truly the best (and should have been main) character in this whole series?

I love problematic charles every now and then but I'm VEEERRRRRYY picky with how thats presented bc most of the time it feels like its an "either or" situation where he cannot ever be a good person and make stupid decisions and have "evil" tendencies. Its the same case with erik too but hes more easily forgiven since he's an antagonist.

Also how they make Charles evil is what makes or breaks it bc i love "hypocritical when it comes to how and when you use your mind control/you really are a control freak even when you're 'noble' about it" charles but hate "creepy to your own student(s) and unrepentant about being a control freak and not even trying to hide it in your actions. You also love the government's boots for some unholy reason" charles. (The comics can be varying degrees of this and its why i have trust issues with marvel bc idk if im gonna get a good charles or a stupid one. Like, they view any scene of him being emotionally vulnerable, affectionate, or even just making an expression outside of just being completely neutral as “mischaracterised”. He’s not some cool, stoic, unwavering badass, he is a traumatised teenager. Don’t cry whenever he dares to give his friend a hug or (god forbid) be SAD about something??? Isn’t like. Part of the point of his development about him allowing himself to break down the repressive walls he built when he shut himself in? And being able to rely on his real friends instead of imaginary versions? And isn’t the game like. Meant to SHOW that he still cares about them despite isolating himself?

Re:Kinder Fun Facts of the day☺️!!! Have you ever wondered who talks the most from the main cast in Re:Kinder?? Well, I did😊. Today I'll be answering this question with some graphs and as a bonus telling you what words each character uses the most! I will warn you, this will be a bit long and I don't know how to be less verbose so, yeah!!!

First, I've made some basic rules as to what I counted regarding how much the characters speak. Not all lines really count as speaking, after all.

Any of the incoherent screaming lines don't count. There's a lot of screaming since the characters die a lot (as expected for a horror RPG game), but I don't really count that as speaking unless they're saying proper words. In that same vein, I didn't really count any of the panting or sniffing and such that are conveyed through words. Again, I don't really see that as a character actively speaking their thoughts!

If I cannot tell who a line belongs to, I will not give it to anyone. This happens for certain lines, so I felt this rule was important.

I won't be counting repetitions of the same line if it's on a variation of the same scene. This may sound a bit strange, but when a character dies, the game goes on to the same next scene it would regardless (unless the scene that follows it is an ending), with variations and new lines here and there to account for the dead character, but a lot will be reused and placed in the exact same beats it normally would have been in originally. So, this rule is here for that. Oh, and also the scenes with bits of Yuuichi's backstory that appear in Shunsuke's head won't be counted twice, because some appear twice line by line.

Of course, the "..." lines won't count. I am so sorry Aya!!!!😞

Now that the ground rules have been set, there's just one thing I want to mention. Though I will count all the total lines for Takumi and Yuuichi like any other character, I just want to mention that first I will have two separate counts for them! Takumi | Takumiel and Yuuichi | Yuuichi's Heart respectively.

Takumiel is separate because I was curious about how much Takumi spoke as an archangel compared to when he was alive. Yuuichi's Heart is because he speaks so much he feels notable enough to be given his own division, even if he and Yuuichi at the end of the day are one person

(I count the silly mind telepathy where Shunsuke is being directly spoken to [and being told things normal Yuu would avoid saying at that point] and the comical theater as Yuuichi's Heart. I clarify in case one assumes he only starts being counted the moment he's directly labelled as Yuuichi's Heart. Any line that can't be distinguished between Yuuichi's Heart and Yuuichi will be given to Yuuichi by default.)

You may be thinking— woah, does Shunsuke really speak that much?! You could say that, for a good chunk of those lines are from how he describes interactable points around the map and his inner thoughts, so they aren't all exactly said out loud. The benefit of being the protagonist, I suppose ww

Funny enough, Yuuichi's Heart has almost as many lines as Yuuichi does for not having that much time in the game, being on the higher end between the characters that don't get the benefit of being a protagonist (lol)!

Admittedly I had expected for Rei and Hiroto to have a more similar amount of lines given their nearly equal amount of presence, but for what it is Rei surpassed Hiroto by 51 lines! I also had expected for Takumiel to speak a little bit more than Takumi but turns out the opposite is true.

While the lack of lines of Takumi and Takumiel are to be expected due to their short time on the game, what stands out is Aya not even reaching triple digits between her other peers who are in there for most of the game. This is because a good chunk of Aya's lines in game are silence!^^" And thus weren't counted. If ellipses were a word, she surely would have reached triple digits, but unfortunately they're not.

Now the line count with combined sums of Takumi | Takumiel and Yuuichi | Yuuichi's Heart!!!

In here, the ranking isn't affected, with Yuuichi remaining second place and Takumi being last place. But the disparity of everyone's numbers compared to Takumi's feels a bit more clear to see when Takumiel isn't individually counted.

With Yuuichi's line counts combined, Shunsuke remains 318 lines ahead of him, but it also means Yuuichi has a 59% the amount of Shunsuke's lines; and impressive feat for someone who doesn't get the benefit of being the point of view for everything you press... Although he does also have an upper hand over everyone by essentially being the plot of this game ww

But maybe line counts do not suffice to tell how much a character speaks. Yes, Shunsuke has a bunch of lines from everything he interacts with, but is it really reliable to say he speaks all that much in all those lines? A good chunk of those could easily have 3 words each! So with this in mind, let's do a word count.

Even in a word count, Shunsuke has the lead, having a lead of 2,247 words over second place. But we'll see about that when we combine Yuuichi's numbers. Anyway, here's the ranking!

This time, Yuuichi's Heart is the one at second place!!! It's pretty funny that he speaks more than his physical counterpart ww. I genuinely didnt think he'd out yap himself that way when I chose to count for him individually 😭!!! He has a lead of 63 words over himself, but a lead nonetheless.

In here, Rei and Hiroto are more even than in the line counts, with the difference seeming more minimal when put into words. But it also showcases that despite Rei having more lines than Yuuichi's Heart in the line count, those only get to have a bit over half of the amount of words he talks (To be fair he does get to infodump a lot in his section of the game).

And here's the combined word count!!! Suddenly Shunsuke's lead is only by a mere 55 words! So Yuuichi speaks about as much as he does with 318 less lines.

I must admit that I genuinely did not expect it to be that close. When I chose to count the lines for when you interact with things for Shunsuke, I thought he was granted to speak an absurd amount more than anyone else. But turns out that Yuuichi speaks about the same amount out loud when most of Shunsuke's are his own thoughts ww. But it does make sense! He is still the plot of this game.

So, after all those charts, here's the average/middle point of lines and words for characters to have, because why not, it's fun.

Average Line Count (YH and Takumiel counted individually): 197 lines

Average Line Count (When combined): 247 lines

Average Word Count (YH and Takumiel counted individually): 1,333 words

Average Word Count (When combined): 1,666 words

So there it is. That's how much the characters in Re:Kinder speak!

But wait!!! I am not done. I will share with you an additional fun fact... Did you ever want to know what word each of these characters said the most?! This one will be quicker, I do promise.

When it came to counting these words I did not count stop words, that being common words that are used all the time by everyone in English. "I, you, me, the, to, a, my, your, yes, no"... Words like that! Otherwise everyone would have one of those as their most said word and it'd be rather boring to look at. With that said, here are the words these characters say the most!

Shunsuke: Yuuichi - said 40 times! (this genuinely confused me so much im sorry he uses interjections so much I had expected it to be something like "huh" or "um" but no i dont know how this passed by me as i was rounding up all the lines he says or proofreading or writing all of those lines WHAT?!?! its been two days and it still takes me out)

Sayaka: Murderer - Said 7 times (All in one sentence!)

I've been reading #DRCL Midnight Children and I can't tell if I'm enjoying it, just going along for the ride, or haven't fully digested what in the world is happening. I find Mina and Lucy very interesting, I think vol 2 paints a very clear picture of how men influence their sons into cycles of violence, i.e. when Arthur is possessed by a memory of his father abusing his mother, then does the same to Lucy who is already deeply malnourished while reciting what he overheard as a young(er) child, and then is immediately racist towards Quincey, who is notably Arthur's friend.

However I see very little commentary, at least on here, about Quincey's depiction as a Black boy and I am. A little concerned about it as someone that is mixed/Black. Like. Something about it feels off? Like where I've paused we see Quincey take part in his "Darkest Secret" wearing Lucy's secret lace and singing in the church, from "The Negro Spiritual" and I am. Unsure about this. Now it is an interesting depiction of queerness and being closeted (with the added understanding that he believes Lucy is a boy) while at an all boys school, and him partaking in what is probably viewed as a feminine act, especially when Black people irl are often viewed as hypermasculine and strong ect ect.

BUT AGAIN. IT'S A LITTLE. ODD??? Like. Idk I'm not. The book treats it like a pseudo citation, however I'm 99% sure that it isn't. And well. I dunno. It's like anyone using the term negro that isn't Black is getting a healthy amount of side eye from me, even thought in the context its a reference. I do think Sakamoto could have simply said African Spiritual and the same thing could have gotten across. Maybe it's a localization/translation issue and I'm reading too much into it.

I just wish I saw literally any other person talk about this because I think a discussion could be had and I feel as though I am ill-suited to describe what I feel about this at length, and in a way that makes sense.

Just thinking about it, but it's kinda weird how your dead spouse is kinda just glossed over when it comes to the fo4 romances, besides Preston (iirc)

like my partner just died like 4 days ago but let me just romance this guy I just met, as far as I know, Preston is the only companion to actually address this in his romance. Like its just a weird writing choice to me, not to mention that the spouse gets like 2.5 seconds of screentime and gets only a few mentions during the main quest.
