My main takeaway from your unhinged ships series - which provides me with limitless entertainment btw so thank you for your service - is how intricate your knowledge of the HP series is!

I'm kind of in a weird limbo rn where I have a great love for this world and the series but JKR's behaviour in recent years has completely turned me off the whole thing. I've been too disheartened to engage with the canon material in any real sense for years, but your exploration of it is kind of rekindling my interest. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Also, is HP like your niche or do you possess an encyclopaedic knowledge on any other works of literature or pop culture phenomena? This is just pure curiosity on my end.

how to reconcile being a part of this fandom - and, especially, how to be in a corner of the fandom which places more emphasis on the text than others - with jkr's decision to become a bigot is a question i'm sure we've all spent a lot of time on, and it's one which is going to have an inherently subjective answer.

my personal view is that she'll never get another penny out of me - i'm persevering with my original copies of the books, judiciously sellotaped; i won't engage at all with the upcoming television adaptation; i've not seen the fantastic beasts films; i wouldn't go and see cursed child; i wouldn't play hogwarts legacy; i don't buy merch and so on - but that writing my little stories and yapping away on my little tumblr is fine, because it's an engagement with the series which, no matter how much it focuses on the text she wrote, is still mine rather than hers.

but - of course - there are entirely reasonable arguments against this position, in either direction. someone who does engage more with jkr's post-radicalisation output could justifiably say that - since i've written stories involving delphini, who only exists because of cursed child, the fact that i've never seen or read the play is irrelevant and my insistence that there's a meaningful distinction between enjoying the expanded world of the series and enjoying the expanded world of the series in a way jkr materially benefits from is performative nonsense. someone else could justifiably say that jkr benefits [directly and indirectly] from all fandom engagement, even if that fandom engagement is critical of her and even if it doesn't financially support her - the upcoming television adaptation, for example, wouldn't have been greenlit if hbo didn't think it would get an audience, and the continued vitality of the harry potter fandom undoubtedly contributed to their belief that it would.

neither of these arguments are wrong - although neither is objectively correct either. each of us has to form a subjective opinion, be ok with it, and be open to changing it as time passes.

and i do genuinely think that engaging with the text as a text - something else i bang on about all the time - is helpful when it comes to reconciling everything.

i know it sounds very pretentious [and i also suspect that many people think the series isn't "well-written" enough to justify such pretension...] to say that the fandom needs to get better at embracing a variety of methods of reading the text and understanding the author's relationship to it.

this isn't me saying that anyone who wants to get into fandom needs to be able to rattle of the names of literary theorists, or be able to give an answer to "the series is historiographic metafiction: discuss".

[although if anyone would like to try and argue in favour of that proposition... i'd shriek.]

what it is is me saying that the dominant way of reading the text in the fandom - which is to focus on the reader's emotional response [and, above all, the reader's emotional response in childhood] - can end up giving jkr quite a bit more authority in how we engage with the series than she deserves. it's why many of us might say that we feel she's "betrayed" or "taken something away from" us, for example - and it's why many of us might feel that she's forced us into approaching the series in ways which decentre the canon material.

and this is - obviously - a completely legitimate way of engaging and responding. but there's also a lot to be gained from thinking outside of our emotional responses about things like the genre conventions which govern the series, the tropes and archetypes it uses, its language and syntax, its existence as something standalone, the other works of literature which influence it, and the social and historical context in which it was written. treating the series as "just" some books reduces jkr's authority over our response to it - and while the argument that this doesn't mean anything in the real world, since all she's going to care about is that people are reading her stuff, is an inherently reasonable one, i do think it has real-world benefits to us in how we square the circle of enjoying the text.

more controversially, though, i think it's also worth thinking about the personal context in which the series was written.

for me, the author is dead based on whether or not i need her to be. i don't think that the only valid interpretation of a text is the author's intended one, and i don't think that the only valid interpretation of a text is one dependent on matching parts of the story onto the author's biography. but i do think it's important for readers to know both what jkr understands the text as saying and what has happened in her life that bleeds through into it [such as the way her difficult relationship with her father and her experience of her mother's terminal illness undeniably influences the series' prioritisation of sacrifical motherhood and certain coolness towards fathers]. this doesn't mean agreeing with - or even empathising with - her by any means, it's just another tool in our arsenal when it comes to thinking of the series as no more or less special than any other piece of literature, and jkr no more or less important to our interpretation of it than any other author.

and i think it's worth saying that she doesn't seem to be someone who's bothered when fans say that she doesn't understand her own text or that she's lost the right to speak about it or that the fandom has taken it back from her - which is also why when people say that non-canon shipping [especially of queer pairings] must piss her off i think it's just cope - because she can spin that as these people being childish and unwilling to face reality.

but she does seem to be bothered by people who say "yeah, i know that's what you think and i know that's what you intended... but i disagree and you don't have the right to dictate otherwise".

[this is why - i think - she gets so frothingly pissed-off by daniel radcliffe's immaculate stance against her anti-trans bigotry. he's always very firm in saying "she can think what she wants, but - firstly - this isn't about what she thinks privately, it's about what she does publicly and - secondly - i think she's completely wrong and i'm not going to change my mind just because she wants me to", and she obviously doesn't like the fact that this is much harder to spin into the narrative that she's being "oppressed" and "victimised" than she'd like...]

the text is just a text, and she's just one woman, but our ways of reading are infinite and important and ours. the new horizon in literary theory is "fuck her, we ball".

[when it comes to "do i have a good memory?" the answer is "yes, but for purely useless information". when the question is whether that good memory relates to other pieces of pop culture, i'm either very lucky or very unlucky - depending on where you stand on such things - that the fandoms for hit millennial sitcoms don't seem to be large... otherwise i'd clearly be spending all my time writing epic nick/schmidt or liz lemon/jenna maroney romances and/or being cancelled for being in george michael/maeby nation...]

Alrighty, thank you for letting me share this stuff! Fair warning though, this is a stupid long ramble.

The title of this little rewrite project is currently Halfway Hell. Our star is Reagan Morgenstern, daughter to one of the most powerful and influential men, who lives in the lap of luxury, wealth, and privilege. However, her cozy life is changed forever the morning after her 21st birthday, when she is woken by a group of seven horrific and grotesque beasts. Her father, Solas, reveals to her a dark secret; He is not human, but rather a powerful sorcerer as old as humanity. Long ago, he and a group of wizards and witches were banished from their home world in the stars to be imprisoned in the Earth’s flaming core for the rest of time. Before they were banished however, Solas and his six siblings used their remaining magic to curse the first vestiges of humanity; The more wicked, despicable, and sinful they were when they were alive, the more monstrous, deadly, and magically potent their souls would be reborn as Solas’ unholy army. Utilizing the damned and tortured souls’ as magic replenishes, the Seven Siblings of Sin were able to breach their flaming prison, and now, Solas, The Dark King, believes the time for his forces of darkness to conquer all three realms is growing near, and when that time does, Reagan will be leading the charge alongside him as his Dark Princess. So to prepare, Reagan is shipped off to the many parts of the world where her father’s siblings reside, to learn to weaponize the magical properties of the six souls spiritually chained to her. But as Reagan spends more time with her ensnared entourage, a conflict begins to brew within herself: Should she follow her family destiny of rulership over all that is known? Or will the suffering and maybe-not-so-awful souls enslaved to her convince Reagan to turn a new leaf?

Ok so that’s basically the plot, I’ve also got a design for Reagan, who is my stand in for Charlie. It is a bit old which is why she’s called Piper on it, but I am planning to give her a slight makeover digitally. I’ve also got a bio for her but that’s also old and really long so I’ll be tweaking that. (btw solas is the stand in for Lucifer, he’s not meant to be Stolas, they’re entirely different characters here, I’m just using the name Solas for reasons including it sounds like Soulless and I think that’s good for your main villain)

Basically, I’m making this rewrite mostly out of spite for all the wasted potential of hazbin/helluva, and all the stupid choices that were made that completely butchered what could’ve been two great adult animation shows. I’ll take the characters from both Hazbin and Helluva and change them to suit this new narrative, while sort combining both of their plots into one(a group of morally ambiguous non human entities do some fucked up shit on Earth, while also growing from hating each other into a found family and trying to save themselves and others like them from their eternal suffering) However, instead of directly using actual Christian demonic/religious figures and stories, I’m using those texts, mostly The Testament of Solomon, as inspiration for the characters, story, and world of Halfway Hell (example; Heaven and Hell are not the traditional Heaven and Hell we know in Christianity, though the parallels with fallen angels and the seven deadly sins and Armageddon are there) So no actual names of demons and angels will be dropped, my characters will just resemble them. I don’t want to offend people and their beliefs by using these names in vain because religion is important to a lot of people, and it’s a nuanced topic that has made people do good and bad things in the name religion ever since, well, the beginning. Plus, I feel like it could make room for more diverse creature designs if I don’t make them explicitly demons or other similar concepts from different cultures such as yokai. They’re meant to be moreso ghosts and monsters in a generic sense, just ones that were originally humans and sprout from a burning land. I want this to be fantasy oriented with all the magic and creature designs I’m planning, while also having a core general theme of change, and a more specific theme of how we can make the changes we want to our lives, and why we make those changes, unlike Hazbin where it’s all about redemption for now. The best way I can describe what I want Halfway Hell to feel like is if The Owl House was written like Bojack Horseman, basically a dramedy with fantasy elements. Originally I was gonna make this even more like Bojack Horseman in terms of realism and tone down the religious influences even more, with purely human characters, an ordinary Earth setting, and it was gonna be called Seven Swinging Souls but dammit, I like fantasy stuff and I wanna draw fantasy stuff.

And that’s pretty much what I have so far. I’m thinking once I develop more ideas and make plenty of art for it, I’ll make a new account dedicated to Halfway Hell and maybe one day make a comic series out of it. No promises at all, I’m still suffering through college and this is mostly a creative outlet but who knows. Let me know your thoughts, thank you for reading all of this nonsense!

Honestly, after looking over the whole summary of the rewrite, I think this is a really solid re-imagining of Hazbin. Actually, I think it's more than that.

Now, I will make note of how much it deviates from the original concept in the fact that it takes away from the idea of a traditional Hellish afterlife, as well as the whole thing concepts we've been introduced to since everything's on Earth, I guess, but, it's because of those differences that I think it would work brilliantly as its own piece of written work as I think it would give it more credibility for being an outstandingly well-written, original project without having the association of Hazbin Hotel as I feel that would discredit it both to those who have problems with Hazbin/Helluva Boss' writing and those who are so loyal to it that they may want partial credit for Viv.

Now, for a bit of warning, I am often extremely picky and skeptical of all new shows, stories, written works, and series I first encounter, regardless of how well-recieved they are – and that's not usually a matter of one’s storytelling ability so much as my general pickiness. With that being said, I'm deeply interested in the potential this concept could have and how you can make it your own. Good luck in college! Idk what that's like yet, but I'm sure I will soon enough. And excellent work, here!

Moby Dick (Moby Dick) "Okay, look--let's get this out of the way. I know that the whale is big. That is not an insignificant thing about whales in general and this whale in particular. It's not even an insignificant factor in nominating him today. Except, it's not the size that matters--it's what Herman Melville does with it*.

*(Sorry, the dick joke was obligatory. It should be the only one unless my love of bad puns runs away from me.)

There's a post floating out there on tumblr calling Moby Dick the OG eldritch terror. Unfortunately, we all know how the hellsite's search "function" is (exasperated but affectionate), so I'm not going to be able to link it. What I can do is pull out a few rusty tools of literary analysis to show that at his Vast heart, Moby Dick represents the terrifying insignificance of humanity in the face of the grandness and terror of the sea.

First, it's crucial to point out that the book opens with quotes about whales, including several Bible verses, some Pliny, something purported to be copied down by a ninth-century king, Shakespeare, and so on. Right out of the gate, the book connects the Whale with the idea of the mythological Leviathan. By quoting Genesis in particular, Melville creates the idea of the Whale as a beast that has existed alongside humanity since its inception. Just as the fears are ancient and have tormented humanity since prehistory, the Whale/Leviathan has represented a "dragon of the sea" that mankind cannot conquer.

Sailors who make their living killing the whales are aware that " all the other things, whether beast or vessel, that enter into the dreadful gulf of this monster’s (whale’s) mouth, are immediately lost and swallowed up" and that "[t]he great Leviathan […] maketh the seas to seethe like boiling pan." They can't escape, though, because as the extracts also make clear, the booming economy of the nineteenth century depends on whale oil for everything from healing bruises to heating rooms in the dead of winter. The sailors are therefore helpless in the face of the dangers that the Whale's sheer size escapes, but also the vast and impersonal economic machinery that reduces them to commodities to be sacrificed to the Whale's wrath, Ahab's vengeance, and the Industrial Revolution's greed. Simon Fairchild probably had a field day with this one.

I realize I'm nearly 400 words in, so in the interest of sparing people's eyes, I'll wrap up by pointing out: --There is a whole chapter devoted to the crew standing knee-deep in whale fat while they dissect a smaller whale. --There is another chapter where Ishmael rhapsodizes about the size of a whale's skeleton. --Then he goes on for another chapter about whale fossils. --And then chapter 3 in this trilogy (which began in chapter 103, btw), asks outright in the title. "Does the whale's magnitude diminish?" --Ishmael sees the sea, and by extension, the Whale, as an irresistible, almost compelling force that terrifies and awes him. This is similar to noted Vast victim Robert Kelly, who also feels a draw to the Vast. --The book closes with Ishmael as the only survivor of the Pequod, having barely escaped the whale's vortex that pulled the ship and all her crew into the depths of the ocean, floating alone on his subtextual lover's coffin for a day and night before finally being picked up by another ship."

After rewatching both ATLA and TLOK recently, here's my tierlist! Completely subjective!!

I may be harsh on tlok, but it is how I felt. 10 years have passed since its completion, and I'm still disappointed in many things. At least it has a great and complex main protagonist who can face bad writing and still be great, phew... When it comes to the seasons, book 3 is the best one imo, its constancy and dynamism were great and the finale was insanely amazing! BUT I appreciate the good side of book 1 waaaaaayyyy more because it's so refreshing and captivating, but since its finale and a few other things bother me so much, it's below book 3 unfortunately. Also I liked the probending stuff and always will!!!! Book 4 was overall bad imo BUT I appreciated a few things in the beginning (the second half of the season was awful though, that's why it's that low in the ranking). And book 2 is a failure in everything... like, it's scandalous. I can't name any good thing coming from it, even the origins of the Avatar that I can't see as something connected to atla. Overall, tlok had a lot of timing and writing issues, and even with great qualities, its flaws are too big not to notice, even a decade later, and it is what it is. It brought many things to the Avatarverse, but at what cost... At least there's Korra ig.

On the other hand, atla was built beforehand and it shows. Even though there's a bunch of filler episodes in the series, they always (except great divide lmaooooo) have a connection to the main plot at some point, and that's what made them enjoyable, even though sometimes they could've just showed us an empty wall, I would've had a similar feeling of enjoyment looooool, but that's a part of the whole package I would say, and realizing most of the time that it had a bigger purpose, it's satisfying in the end. This show started almost 20 years ago and it's still so good and relevant to this day. Book 2, from Toph's appearance to the finale, is a flawless ride. Book 1 has the 3rd place because it was more childish and has lots of filler eps, but it helped build the Avatar World and it was cute too so it's still pretty good (and the finale in the North Pole is amazing). Book 3 and its finale have a special place in my heart but there were a bunch of forgettable episodes and subplots, especially for a more serious season that marks the end of the series, so that's why it's below book 2, but it's a stunning season anyway and watching it again made me emotional a bit.

In conclusion, I know tlok had a lot of issues cause it wasn't meant to be a 4-season show in the first place (that's why book 1's animation quality is out of this world btw) and that Nickelodeon tried to sabotage it by giving a high budget for the other seasons because ppl were hyped and then taking it back cause they couldn't promote it properly and gave little to no time to the staff and other stuff, but this is what has been given to us, and it's still there, so I gotta be honest with my feelings. Also, even though a lot of people worked on both shows, the episodes' writers are quite different from one to another, and the same creators being on both shows don't guarantee the same way to create and write the episodes (besides, even their own mentality can change, AND BY THE WAY IT ACTUALLY CHANGED FROM TLOK BOOK 1 TO BOOK 4). In my case, I like atla's writing team better tbh and I do think they had a huge impact on the way the story has been told.

And finally, I think that if tlok wasn't atla's sequel and had its own universe, it could've been a better show. Here I said it. Atla feels like a brake on tlok at some point.

I won't go deep into shipping, animation studios, plots, villains, etc in this review cause it can be too long and pointless. I suppose everything I said above is more than enough.

And it's (melancholy) shippy shit with my new Morrowind OC, Drelayn! >:} Fic Universe Canon, and, btw, this is Teldryn's boyfriend during a great deal of the Nerevarine stuff.

(Technically we do also get a second OC, Drelayn's twin sister, now passed, Dravynea.)

I waffled a little over the ship, until I decided Drel would be here, now, in this moment, after Tel had to do some awful shit to finish filling a prophecy he doesn't believe in. Their paths are parallel in many ways. And Tel was not always as huge a mess as he is in World. This is, technically, before the fall.

Drelayn Uvelath looked over at Teldryn, sharp planes of his face made sharper by the light and the twisting, deep purple tattoos that snaked down under his collar. His hair was messy, sides overgrown, crest no longer able to keep its shape. The stubble he’d always been keen to shave away was growing in too, and he scratched at it absently. He was staring into the distance, the sun setting over Tel Vos, its enormous fungal tower peeking through severe, grey-stone Imperial architecture, goaded along by Telvanni magic.

Nerevarine.

The title felt strange to turn over in his mouth. It was a word tossed around by the Ashlanders, but nobody ever took it seriously. At least, not until now.

Drelayn scooted closer and leaned his shoulder against Teldryn’s, winding his fingers through his. He could feel the tension in them, under the bruises, the callouses. Under the ring, too—Moon-and-Star—whose enchantment buzzed like a distant hive of bees. He brought Teldryn’s hand up and kissed the back of it. That earned him a look, a tiny quirk of a smile. And then he was distant again, head full of plans. Fears. Doubts.

This was the last stop. Everything he’d been through, every deed done, and finally, Aryon would name him Hortator. And that would be that. A prophecy complete. Aside from the runs to Black Marsh he’d been doing for the Lamps, Drelayn had been here much of the way. He smiled to himself and watched as Teldryn hugged his knees to his chest with a sigh and rested his chin on them, making himself small. Always so melancholy. Always worried about the next step.

Drelayn had been there before, where every decision felt like the wrong one. Mercenary work was not for the soft. He’d built up walls, and let ice collect in his core, to numb the shock of having both no voice at all and the specific kind of power it took to hold other people’s lives in his hands. These jobs ranged from watching the blood drain from the neck of the otherwise-innocent, to recapture of…escaped assets. The work was cruel. And he’d gone cold enough that even when it all fell apart, and there wasn’t anything left tying him to Vvardenfell, he still felt nothing. He had been cruel. Before that, his twin sister had taken all of this in stride, and was able to compartmentalize the pieces of this life that made him ill. He often wondered how she’d managed. Sometimes, he still did.

Work is work. Sometimes you’ll have to make due even when it hurts, baby brother, she’d said. She was right. She’d always been. Don’t let it grind you down. -> Read the rest on AO3.

Turned out Reese was killing said posh twats and tried to frame Joe, became his stalker, wanted to be killing mates together (the Reese x Joe ship has sailed ajsuajahjsjsja). BUT! Lots of people noticed that during gatherings Joe was the only one who interacted with Reese and like we suspected - that whole thing was only in Joe's head cause he has split personality. So he basically dissociates and doesn't know what's going on. Reese was a real guy that Joe was obsessed with, but they never actually met and Joe was behind all the murders. Now that Joe accepted the truth and still wants to act like a saviour I feel even more icky about s5, he was always awful but his delusional monologues were funny. Now that he has a rich girlfriend and acts like a entrepreneur I'm like 😬😬😬😬🤚🏼

Oh! Do you have any alpha wong headcanons btw? Maybe some worange? That the ship name? Like imagine omega stephen looking at him in awe for being such a diff alpha from what he had encountered in the past.

oo! maybe a beta wong? who always gets mistaken for an Alpha and omega stephen would be BEGGING for his mark and knot but he's probably like 'sorry, can't do any of those. Don't be embarrassed by the way, I had like, multiple people ask me that before.'

For anything and all things alpha Wong and omega Stephen I highly recommend One Way Ticket by zenkitty555. Actually I just recommend all her stuff, period. You’ll find a lot of material there. Honestly she doesn’t get enough credit for her MASSIVE contribution to the fandom. She’s probably written the most DS ship/s fic. She also has a great amount of omegaverse fics too! Treat yourself with her work. You’ll be glad you did 😉

Also, omega Stephen was actually the default setting in the early days of fandom. Before zenkitty changed it with her fics! I believe she was the first (to my knowledge) to write omega Mordo and it’s been the norm ever since. If you have a craving for omega Stephen, all you have to do is go to the first few fics on the Karl Mordo/Stephen Strange tag in AO3 and you’ll find them there 😁

I believe that the Wong/Stephen ship name is Worange though I have seen Wongrange floating around too. I love alpha Wong and omega Stephen. Idk why but they give me old married couple vibes. Like the ones in old sitcoms where the couples bicker but you know they adore each other. I guess for headcanons…..I always pictured omega Stephen to be a real handful. Like super out of control and impulsive when he gets heated (sorry for the pun.) And I just feel like he’d be the type of omega who owns his sex appeal and isn’t afraid to use it. Pretty mouthy too I bet, and probably always a little on the defensive since he’d be used to having alphas hating on his intelligence all his life.

I think omega Stephen wouldn’t be easily intimidated by alphas. I also think that he wouldn’t feel genuinely safe or relaxed with them either. But Wong’s the exception. With Wong he feels both intimidating but also safe. Like he greatly respects Wong yet knows that he won’t hurt him. And while Stephen doesn’t feel the need to impress any alpha (because he knows he’s better anyways), with Wong he’s constantly trying to get his approval hehehe 🤣

Beta Wong is something I haven’t seen that much of in terms of fic. Usually he’s always cast as an alpha. And no wonder right? He just gives off that alpha energy 🤤 Beta Wong would make a lot of sense too though. And poor Stephen reacting so strongly to him would be 🥵

To all the fanfiction writers out there, who like to write fanfics with a modern au or a social media au or a famous au or others like these, I would like to show you one of my favourite comfort movies, DJ Cinderella (2019).

This is the movie, it's on Netflix, it's Brazilian (it's originally called Cinderella Pop, but internationally it's called DJ Cinderella) and it's so good. It's the story of Cíntia Dorella, a 17 year old girl who's parents are divorced and she lives with her mom, aunt and her aunt's boyfriend. Her dad cheated on her mom with an awful woman who has 2 twin daughters around Cintías age and they hate her. They all go to the same school and their is this world famous live song singer that everyone, including her step sisters, love, besides Cíntia. Her aunt's boyfriend, Rafa is a DJ and he helps Cíntia work on her DJ skills because she wants to university to become a professional, her dad does not support her in this career path. Cíntia has dj-ed before and earned herself the name DJ Cinderella for her names similarity to the fairytale princesses. She gets an opportunity to replace her aunt's boyfriend for a DJ job and she takes it but when she gets there she finds out that her aunt's boyfriend unknowingly signed her up for a job at her step sisters birthday party. The world famous singer has also been hired to sing at the party. When Cíntia arrives she realises that if she wants to do the job she'll have to be disguised so she wears a mask. Shes doing her set when suddenly a guy starts talking to her about one of the songs she's playing, and she says that the song isn't her favourite and she doesn't believe in love after what happened with her parents,she tells him her name is DJ Cinderella, the guy reveals himself to be the famous singer and he like Cíntia a lot, but Cíntia's step mother threatens her that if she tells the singer who she (Cíntia) is, she'll tell Cíntia's dad about her DJ-ing. So when the singer, who's name is Freddy Prince btw wild name, asks for her to come on stage, using her stage name, and she doesn't come. After the show when he's getting ready to leave he finds one of her shoes and becomes determined to find her. He asks the internet for her to come meet him but Cíntia's dad has found out about her budding career and has taken her from her aunt's house to live with him and grounds her, she can't go see him. Their is a whole lot more of the story that I don't want to spoil but it's so good and the highly suggest it. It's funny, dramatic, their is quite a few hot people in it and I believe that it is the perfect blueprint for a Cinderella/Famous au fanfic. So watch the movie if you think that my description sounds interesting and if you want to add your fandom ship you think this would be great with and if you want tell an author you know, or heck write it yourself, about this movie so that I can finally see this movie get the attention it deserves. Do you think buck eddie is going to happen? I feel like i'm being delusional but also i love being delusional because hope is like one of the greatest feelings even though it's also one of the most devastating things when it's crushed. I want them to happen so bad:(

Look, I know the track record with popular fandom ships going canon isn’t great and it’s hard to shake of the fear of being disappointed once again since there are so many shows and movies etc that let large part of their fanbases down with how their stories eventually ended and how badly the creators treated their fans but I also think we need to give more credit to the 911 writers/creators for how they’ve handled things so far. Obviously we don’t know what they’ve planned and how the story will eventually go but none of the people who make the show are continously awful towards fans (I’m not counting any instances where fans were bothering crew or cast members to the point of them getting annoyed btw) or constantly mad that there’s a popular fandom ship that wasn’t the original plan and throwing tantrums about it or turning it into one big joke that they can bait their fans with and then go ”ha ha just kidding” when nothing eventually happens. They don’t have Ryan and Oliver do interviews together where they would tease us with some big, important and shocking Buddie scene that would end up being a ”blink and you’ll miss it” type of scenario or anything like that that has been quite typical behavior with some other shows. They don’t shy away from writing Buck and Eddie scenes just because some people on the internet write fanfiction about them which in some other cases has been the reaction in the writers’ room.

Obviously I too would be disappointed if they would never become a couple in canon and that’s okay to admit! In my opinion it would make the most sense storytelling wise for Buck and Eddie to eventually get together but if that isn’t the case then that just wasn’t the story the writers wanted to tell and I still would enjoy the show even if I would find one aspect of it disappointing and I don’t think it would leave such a bad taste in my mouth like with some other shows that I won’t name……….. Right now I would say though that there is a good chance it will happen but also who knows!! I think as viewers we need to make peace with the fact that we don’t control the story and try to just enjoy having our (possibly delusional sfdhjnjn) theories about the whole thing and just sit back and watch the story unfold. I know it’s sometimes stressful, especially when there’s one ep per week and you can’t binge watch the whole thing in one sitting and be done with it (I would argue that that’s a good thing but I also get the impatience for not getting the whole story in one go since streaming has made binge watching so easy and also the default way of watching shows for the past decade or so so it can be hard to adjust).

I’m sorry anon I’m not really answering your question at all but I don’t really have an answer! I personally think one of the best parts of watching this show has been that I get to come here and be unhinged to the point of it being a little concerning with all of you and I will be ecstatic if Buddie does go canon and I hope it will happen and in case it doesn’t? I’ll just deal with it the way I have in the past, by ignoring parts of canon and consuming unhealthy amounts of fics instead sdhjmjj. And maybe we’re all being delusional but the important thing is that we’re having fun. It’s still only a tv-show, even if it is important to us and I’m at the point where I think anything could happen and I personally have chosen to just enjoy my ride in the clown car. I’m just a passenger and maybe I will be disappointed once we arrive to our destination because it doesn’t end up being what I wanted it to be but at least the ride there was fun, you know?

- Byler 8/10- I love them but I understand the people who don’t. Honestly before season 4 Will and Mike were low on the favorite character tower, they were basically at the bottom actually. But I love Will in season 4 and season 4 Mike is so good to me (even if he’s oblivious). Also them being absolute idiots when they start dating is canon, just little whispers back and forth, Mike crushing will in his sleep, wills constant need to do laundry bc Mike drools in his sleep, Mike posing funny for paintings, Will getting his picture taken by Mike every five seconds- just awe

- Mileven- 4/10- Eh. I didn’t even like them in 1&2 so there isn’t much to say, I think season 3 showed some cute moments and the part in the pizza place in 4 was so cute to me. I don’t really love the idea of them staying together but I get peoples liking to them

- Jopper- 10/10- I mean come on, the best, love them, they need to get married and move in together

- Jancy- 5/10- I loved them in 1&2 but three ruined them, it was just so bad and then 4 on top of that proves they need to break up. It’s that thing where the build up is way better than the actual thing, they just aren’t it and some of their fans get crazy so it makes me dislike the ship even more

- Stancy- 8/10- my loves <3, would be a 10/10 if steve didn’t do that billboard sign thing in 1. Steve being a housewife while Nancy is out making the money sounds like heaven to me. Lovers to enemies to friends to lovers again trope give me (I know they weren’t really enemies but shush) (also if anyone tells me Steve would force Nancy to have kids, fuck off and shut up, disrespectfully)

- Steddie- 3/10- IM SORRY!!! They just got so much hype and for what?? I don’t hate them or anything but they do nothing for me. They’re just eh. Meh. Bleh. Bland I guess

- Ronance- 6/10- I could see it and I could get behind it but it’s not like my otp or anything. They are super adorable and I love seeing fanart for them so yeah, good ship just not my fav

- Jargyle- 10/10- if you don’t think they’re gay you’re just plain dumb. Stoner bfs for life

- Stonathan- 8/10- need I say more? Steve and Johnathan? Yeah. Yup. 1&2 just make them have the best enemies to lovers arc known to man

- Steve x Johnathan x Argyle- 10/10- I feel like this is self explanatory but yeah them, them over so many

Steve x Johnathan x Argyle x Nancy -11/10- YES I NEED IT!!! It’d solve every single problem ever!! Omg I would sob so bad if I ever found a fic of them

- Stoncy- 10/10- one of my favorite ship of the older kids. They’d be perfect and having Robin third wheel at all times is great, they are everything to me. The three of them in 2 makes me feral

- Lumax- 10/10- how can it not be a 10/10??? It’s perfcet!! Max is so great for Lucas and Lucas is so great for max!! I love them!! Would die for both of them <3

- Elumax- 10/10- give it to me now!! They’d be so fucking adorable and just so pure. I’d die for the three of them

- Elmax- 9/10- add Lucas and boom 10/10, I’m a sucker for these two together though and that mall scene remains one of my favorites out of the whole show

- Byclair- 5/10- okay so I see potential but it’s nothing I’m actively thinking about a lot, they’d be cute tho

- Madwheeler- 7/10- id pay money for them to be together in a different universe where they’re snarky sarcastic partners that shit on everyone and love doing it!! Their relationship would make me giggle and I know it. They have actual potential for enemies to lovers but just not canon cause y’know Lucas is <3

- Wheelclair- 8/10- yup I see it and I love it. Nerdy broody boyfriend with jock teasing boyfriend?? Yup. They’d be so smart together don’t even lie, also Lucas teaching Mike how to play basketball is a must. Them skipping hellfire to make out- yup! Mm them <3

- Dustin x Suzie 4/10- okay I like season 4 them as Suzie is a queen but season 3 made me annoyed a bit, like girl shut up about a song when the worlds collapsing

- Henderhop - 6/10- I can see it and they’d be adorable but I wish they had more interactions in the show. Like yes they’d be adorable but I have a hard time picturing it with how little I can think of them that relates to actual scenes

- Lucas x Dustin - 5/10- I see it okay but they just meh for me, like season 1 them yeah but I much prefer max and Lucas

- Dustin x Max- 2/10- I remember rooting for Lucas when watching 2 for the first time and my points still stand, it wouldn’t work out good and I know it. Max is too mature (?that sounds mean but I can’t think of another word) for Dustin and it’d crumble so fast

- Will x Lucas- 5/10- okay yeah I can see it but I think it falls into the category of the not enough screen time together for me to get a good visual of how it would play out

- anything with Billy- 0/10- he’s racist and abusive stop trying to pretend he isn’t

Random thoughts on HTTYD RttE S4 (Ep8-13)

Ep8 - Shattermaster, the best dragon, is back!!

I'm guessing by the end of the episode she's going with Dagur - I feel a little bad for it, but I never really expected Heather to stay

"Ruff and I are the best booby-trap sniffers that have ever sniffed a booby-" Ruff glares at him "... trap"

The twins are fun

Dagur is being too pushy about this, but I guess it's a bit understandable - still, I feel for Heather, the girl is torn in two

Aw, c'mon Dagur, let the kids kiss!

Btw, are Heather and Fishlegs even offically dating? We never got a conclusion to that

You go, Fishlegs! Show them all what you can do!

That biatch really is just asking for Ryker to betray him. Assuming he's too intelligent to make such an easy to see mistake, I wonder what are his plans there

I love how Hiccup just leaves without explaining anything to the others

Where did the twins leave Barf and Belch?

Once again, Ruff being the big sister, and once again, the twins separated and fighting for different causes - so so satisfying to watch, I'm loving this episode

Tuff's offended "Oh, my goodness" when the hunter called him a girl was super funny

Is the biatch seriously trying to break apart the twins? So who's gonna break it to him that not every set of siblings is like him and his brother?

"Take your best shot pal." Oh. My. God. Ruffnut, I love you so much, that was so badass!!! :DDD

Tuff's worry, escalating to a hundred when he heard biatch and Ryker mentioning they had Ruff was great

Tuff went into a similar rage to the one he goes into when an enemy cuts his "beard" in httyd3

Soo, even dragon-proof chains can be broken, you just need a loooot more fire power than what a single dragon possesses

Nice, they made Macey a funeral

"You never listen, do you brother?" He hasn't done anything else the whole show!!

Ep11 - "We've dealt with way worse" "Snotlout doesn't count" pfff, poor Snotlout, Astrid doesn't miss a single opportunity

Snotlout's little appreciative stare as Fishlegs lowered the clubhouse's door - child has a crush

Why did Stormfly fly away when Astrid got hit? She's her rider, she should protect her at all costs right? And if it was just dragon instinct because of the blast, which is what I'm guessing, why didn't Toothless run away too? I'm being nitpicky again, I know, feel free to ignore this, but it's just that if it were Toothless with Hiccup in that situation, the Night Fury would not retreat and cover Hiccup immediately

I dunno, it just gives that feeling that Toothless has more conscience than the other dragons, I dunno. I'm thinking too much probably - he is the main dragon of this show, it's normal he's shown more and in a more humane way, if that's the right word, and they probably wanted Hiccup to rescue her, but still.

This was a long venting comment, I apologize

"Of course, Toothless is right there, everything's peachy for you" Okay, now I feel kinda bad but I was gonna mention that too, Toothless got to stay in the clubhouse but the others didn't

And it can't be about size because if so, at least Meatlug could've also joined them

I'm gonna give them the out that it's because in an emergency, Toothless couldn't fly away and escape from danget like the others

On a brighter note, the twins and Snotlout are worried for their dragons and I appreciate the worry

Ohhhhh crap - now I feel like I cursed Astrid when I predicted way back in S2 that this show was gonna like to hurt her

Hiccstrid crumbs yayy

Was the whole "I'm putting my foot down" supposed to be an amputation joke for Hiccup? Because I kinda understood it like that, but I'm not sure

Oh, it'll be interesting to see the riders trying to deal with each other's dragons

And the Hiccstrid crumbs keep falling

"Of course she's not gonna hide. She's Astrid" Yeah you should've seen that coming

I appreciate that she's listening, albeit a bit reluctantly and obviously it's Hiccup she's listening to. But, in the beggining of the show, I'm not so sure she would've - it shows that Astrid's also come far

It's moments like that one where Hiccup tries to comfort Astrid that remind me of much of a good relationship these two have - also, they almost kissed ahhhh

I'm really liking these concepts, are there any fanfics out there that explore this episode further? The riders dealing with each other's dragons or Astrid coping without her sight?

Honestly, knowing the way Snotlout and Hookfang work, you really should've managed out your wording better Fishlegs

Astrid continues being a badass, I continue to love it

Also, Stormfly gives me avian vibes - is it just me?

So this is how they get together?? Man, so much happens in this show that connects Httyd1 and Httyd2

A very similar scene happens in httyd2 btw: the two talking feelings and all, sitting on the edge of a cliff, bathed by sun light, while Toothless and Stormfly play in the background - I'm guessing it's probably intentional

But hey, Heather, Dagur, Stoick, Gobber, Gothi, all the good peeps!! Glad to see you - but I'm surprised the Defenders of the Wing aren't there too

Okayyyy, that was the quickest, randomest ending ever - the last 3 minutes felt like a speedrun of the possible series final. There's still 2 seasons to go tho, so let's see how this goes

For the record, I don't believe either Ryker or Biatch are actually dead - no one dies in these shows, not like this at least

And that's the Season 4 finale! I watched S4 so fast, it's irreal. I'm sad to know this journey is closer to ending tho, I'll miss it :/

obviously obsessed with Wei Wuxian the prettiest little shit ever. He is nicknamed Bestie. I have a lot of feelings about him but mostly I think he is shojo manga heroine levels of wonderful and I love him for that.

Then we got Lan Wangji who has some of the BEST sass. I loved him in the drama because his acting was so good despite so few lines, but omg in the book is is AMAZING. The scene where they play tag bdsm style??? Obsessed he is baby. Also the novel makes me think he's ASD coded which makes me very happy yes.

His nickname is Boyfriend because of course. He is also shojo manga levels of heroine and hero and he rocks it. I will gift him many bunnies and ribbons to tie up wwx with sjsjfjjs.

I could watch them watch each other for hours ajdjjdjsjjd I'm usually good at not shipping real life people but god....please give me strength their bts videos are just sjfjkakfkks.

Then we get the other characters who all have important nicknames as well. Wen Ning is Puppy Bestie because he is a puppy. Im honestly in shock that his actor is actually one of the oldest cast members because um what????? This baby be 30+?????

I loved him and his sister so much and was so upset that her death was just like off screen????? Excuse me????? For my queen?????

She is Queen Bestie of course. I worship the ground she walks and honestly I need fix it fics. Also her friendship with wwx was so good????? Like I just wanted them to bffs why did they do her dirty whyyyyy.

Took me a while to warm up but Jin Ling was great and his scenes with wwx was just so much fun to watch. Also the actor is like the same age as lwj's and I'm like????? The skill to act that much like a whiney teenager. Amazing.

Jiang Yanli made me sob so many times cause I spoiled myself early to not get attached to the characters who die but then of course I was an idiot and got attached anyways. She is Soup Bestie or Sister Bestie. Depends on the day.

The best part of their dynamic was me realizing I have chaotic middle child energy like wwx. And she's such a good big sister like she made me want to call my own and tell them I love them and thanks for making that god awful kraft Mac and cheese with soy sauce and Broccoli and did I mention I cried a lot? Like so much (please send fix it fics kthnx)

Lan Xichen is Brother Bestie but honestly he should really be the Number 1 Wangxian Shipper and Wingman.

Boy knew his lil brother was pining over a dead evil guy for decades and supported him. We stan.

I just realized I didn't give Nie Huisang a nickname oops but also i saw somewhere that his idea of faking incompetence so other people will get shit done is genius. I love him, I want to be him. Hence forth he shall be known as Girlboss Bestie.

Would personally like to sue mxtx for the emotional abuse that was the Yi City arc thank you. Blissfully ignoring canon to say that the moment Song Lan left that city A-Qing and Xiao Xingchen came back to life from the power of gay vibes and found family alone thank you very much.
