About roughly a month and a week ago me and art pals @pharaohzeth and @middlenightsun did another art train together and we used the same reference photo and it was perfect for a drawing with Sora together with her beloved children. Although, I did do a sketch for the art train in that month, but I had only just now finally got around to finishing my piece on it. :3c Me always being the last one to finish will probably never change ha ha. im not sure if this was intentional- or just a reuse of assets- but the subtle detail of the car that hit Simon following him throughout the game never fails to unnerve me.

the first time i noticed the car- the only one parked, the only one not piled or flipped over, the only one facing me- it made my skin crawl.

this thing haunting him throughout the entire experience, this hint towards what's really happening outside of the monsters his brain has created to protect himself, this acknowledgement that something is wrong. that he's being hunted.

its one of the creepiest details in the game to me and the more i catch the car in the sides of my vision, the more it freaks me out.

its also the car that the weird flesh tree thing throws in your path right after

this one is def just, reusing the assets they had but it shows up four times in front of the building sophie is on top of (fourth one not pictured is behind me but i promise you it's there).

even as it's becoming more obvious they're just reusing models, it doesn't make it feel any less gross to me, especially considering the context of where we are and why we're here.

like i know this probably isn't all the instances (pretty sure it's also at Saxon Avenue lol), i had some trouble with the game while trying to get these screenshots and have a feeling i missed a couple, but the sheer amount i WAS able to capture? upsetting. down right creepy.

i know- logically- it's just the same model being used throughout the game like all the other cars, but knowing that the thing that causes the events of the game in the first place is following us throughout it's entire run time is such a good detail i WANT it to have been intentional.

How likely do you think it is that Mario and Luigi Brothership has any sort of direct reference to the movie, and how would you feel if they actually did that?

I wouldn't bank on a direct reference, but I know that Nintendo and Illumination worked pretty close together on the film, with Shigeru Miyamoto himself acting as co-producer. Given the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, I'm thinking Nintendo is taking measures to very subtly make the games and the film reflect each other.

What happened with the cover of Princess Peach Showtime comes to mind:

Say what you will about the design change in and of itself, but you can't deny that whatever happened there was influenced by the movie.

I think something similar (but much more subtle) might have happened here:

It's easy to see how that pose might have been based on that shot from the film, but it's also nothing so drastic that people who are only familiar with the games are going to feel out of the loop. Or perhaps it's just a coincidence. Who knows, really.

If there does end up being a direct reference to the movie in "Mario and Luigi: Brothership"? I'd be thrilled. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the thing that got me hyperfixated in the first place, so I'm always going to be on board with references to it.
