We struggle with this a lot. Crying and then feeling like we gave ourselves a headache for nothing. Processing some really heavy trauma and then berating ourselves for feeling sick afterwards.
But actually I think we deserve to be tucked in to soft blankets and given tea and fussed over, and we gotta do it ourselves because we’re reparenting. Feeling your feelings is fucking hard so reward yourself for it!!
please remember that if processing old trauma/doing shadow work/any emotional processing becomes exhausting, this doesn’t mean it’s not working. Even physical symptoms — headaches after crying, etc — deserve care and loving kindness. you’re not failing, you’re healing, and this is your chance to create new patterns of care and love for yourself 💜

Some things I use to sooth the body when the somatic flashbacks hit
Heating Pad: Put it anywhere on the body where it relieves pain for you. Bonus points if the cover has some something nice on it. Ours has unicorns 🦄
Sippy cups with a soft opening: gives me something to bite on without the suffocation other oral stim toys sometimes give me. This is also a good one if you have jaw pain. 🍼
Your favorite candy: Helps ground and dispels taste flashbacks 🍬
Soft blanket: If you have to feel unwell at least the bed can be a pleasant sensory experience 🛏️
Calming music: Here’s a playlist to get you started but feel free to do whatever regulates you best
Flashcards with affirmations and grounding techniques: These should be kept wherever you are most likely to be when you experience flashbacks, eg. purse, nightstand 📝
Stuffed toys: Yes even adults can benefit from this! And if you age regress or are a system this will help the little ones feel safe 🧸 Hugging them distracts from other more unpleasant sensations
Ice packs: These can help ground you. Can also help with trauma related pain flairs 🧊
Most importantly remember that you will get through this. The sun always rises, the pain always lets go eventually. You deserve to live and see brighter days 💜

I’ve been somewhat inactive lately. Honestly I’ve been a bit depressed. It didn’t seem worth continuing the work, but I think that’s exactly why I need to.
So, join me in picking yourselves off the floor. Wash your face, drink some water, take your meds. Get back in the fight. We’re not letting giving them the satisfaction of going quietly into the night. I refuse to beat the space nazi to the grave.

We stand on the brink of the inauguration of president Trump, and I cannot be the only SA survivor who feels as though my rights have been spat upon. That is how those in power would like us to feel. Victimized, Powerless, and unable to stand up.
But we are not. We have been hurt but we can recover. We have been robbed of our rights, we will take them back. We have been silenced, but no more. No more stifling of women’s stories, and those of other marginalized people who are affected by this presidency.
In the coming years, you must do what you can to fight. And the wonderful thing is the individuality this carries.
Do you need to hide out while your wounds knit back together? That alone is an act of resistance in a world that would happily work you to death. We have need of scholars and chroniclers if you need something to fill the time. If not that’s alright too.
Are you angry? Unpalatable? An imperfect victim who’s all claws and vinegar? Perfection. Your rage is beautiful my darling. Now go out and scream your truth.
Are you broken hearted? Do you feel too soft for the sort of cruelty society serves up to us regularly? Tender hearts are of inestimable value; for what good is victory if we all become monsters and there are none to pull us back and teach us the meaning of love.
There is a place in this fight for everyone. Don’t let them make you feel as if you are less worthy.
