A young man is ostracized by his classmates after he bullies a deaf girl to the point where she moves away. Years later, he sets off on a path for redemption.

Review: Not gonna lie, this was a wild ride. But after watching it to the end, I gotta say it was a wonderful movie!! Everything from the animation, to the story with it’s twists, to the animation and atmosphere were perfect!! I rarely came across a movie this perfect in the past, so it was really shocking to me how easy it was to get invested in the movie, the characters, the plot. There were also a variety of visual effects that were cleverly used! With that said, my heart still needs time to heal after watching this. I still want Shoko to be the happiest person ever T-T And Shoya as well of course!! I want them both to be happy!! The deserve nothing less but the best in the world ;-; I loved the ending! It’s clever and it made me happy that I sat through all the rough and sad parts of the movie! Before you go watch it, I also gotta say, that there are some scenes implying and explicitly talking about suicide and even showing attempts of suicide, so consider this a TRIGGERWARNING!

Kimi No Na Wa. / Your Name. (2016)

Two strangers find themselves linked in a bizarre way. When a connection forms, will distance be the only thing to keep them apart?
Main roles: Ryûnosuke Kamiki – Taki Tachibana (voice) Mone Kamishiraishi – Mitsuha Miyamizu (voice) Ryô Narita – Katsuhiko Teshigawara (voice) Aoi Yûki – Sayaka Natori (voice) Nobunaga Shimazaki – Tsukasa Fujii (voice)
Review: I wanted to wait a bit before the hype was over to see for myself what’s going on. I was skeptical at first, but then the charm of the characters / story & animation really got to me. No lie! Best animation I have ever seen! I wanted to have almost every scene as a wallpaper!! Definitely the movie I needed right now, with all it’s beautiful sceneries. With that said, I’m allergic to characters being perverts (but that’s just me, I know). Heartbreaking story and lovable characters though! And the fricking ending!!!!! Must watch!! I’m a wreck! Why did this movie do this to me T-T

The Bodyguard (1992)
✭✭✭✭✩
Info: 12 and over | 2h 9min | Director: Mick Jackson Genre: Drama, Music, Romance https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103855/
A pop singer has been receiving threatening notes, and her manager hires a bodyguard known for his good work. The bodyguard ruffles the singer's feathers and most of her entourage by tightening security more than they feel is necessary.
Main roles: Kevin Costner – Frank Farmer Whitney Houston – Rachel Marron Gary Kemp – Sy Spector Bill Cobbs – Devaney Ralph Waite – Herb Farmer
Review: A thrilling drama with lots of suspense until the very last minute. The characters are believable although a bit old school, but this is due to the production year and the general setting it takes place. Still, the characters break through certain stereotypes I would say. A movie that has earned its popularity in my opinion. Give it a watch! :)

I Origins (2014)
✭✭✭✩✩
Info: 12 and over | 1h 46min | Director: Mike Cahill Genre: Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2884206/
I Origins begins when graduate student, Ian Gray, is researching the evolution of human eyes with Karen and Kenny, in order to prove that eyes have evolved instead of "appeared" as creationists claim. His fascination with eyes takes him into areas that have profound personal and cultural consequences.
Main roles: Michael Pitt – Ian Astrid Bergès-Frisbey – Sofi Brit Marling – Karen Steven Yeun – Kenny
Review: The first half of the movie was a bit boring, but I understand that you need a bit of build up for the plot to have a larger effect later on. Almost every scene was aesthetically pleasing to watch and there was a great sense of tension over all. You can make up a meaning for the ending scene for yourself, although if you wait for after the credits, you’ll see that it’s pretty clear what’s going on. Over all, an interesting movie about a scientifically driven guy, who has no choice but to change his mind on a certain matter. Definitely give it a try!

The Breakfast Club (1985)
✭✩✩✩✩
Info: 12 and over | 1h 37min | Director: John Hughes Genre: Comedy, Drama https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088847/
Beyond being in the same class at Shermer High School in Shermer, Illinois, Claire Standish, Andrew Clark, John Bender, Brian Johnson and Allison Reynolds have little in common, and with the exception of Claire and Andrew, do not associate with each other in school. In the simplest and in their own terms, Claire is a princess, Andrew an athlete, John a criminal, Brian a brain, and Allison a basket case. But one other thing they do have in common is a nine hour detention in the school library together on Saturday, March 24, 1984, under the direction of Mr. Vernon, supervising from his office across the hall. Each is required to write a minimum one thousand word essay during that time about who they think they are.
Main roles: Emilio Estevez – Andrew Clark Paul Gleason – Richard Vernon Anthony Michael Hall – Brian Johnson John Kapelos – Carl Judd Nelson – John Bender Molly Ringwald – Claire Standish Ally Sheedy – Allison Reynolds
Review: I barely made it through this movie. The plot was okay and the idea behind it as well, but I just can’t get over how unlikable the main character is. He’s a total dick and messes with almost everyone who crosses paths with him. I don’t know why this movie is so famous... The only reason why it didn’t get 0 stars is because of its comedic scenes (which didn’t really help the movie to become a LOT better, but it helped making it not a total failure - at least in my eyes). You can skip that one!

The Walk (2015)
✭✭✭✩✩
Info: 6 and over | 2h 3min | Director: Robert Zemeckis Genre: Adventure, Drama, Biography https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3488710/
Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man - Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan.
Main roles: Joseph Gordon-Levitt – Philippe Petit
Review: This movie was more about the visuals than the story in my opinion. At least, I had expected it to be more story-driven - it was still a very thrilling movie, based on actual events. Not a bad movie, but it could’ve done a bit more with what it had. Also, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a great actor! He still made the movie fun to watch!

Venom (2018)

Info: 12 and over | 1h 52min | Director: Ruben Fleischer Genre: Action, Horror, Sci-Fi https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1270797/
While exploring space for new habitable worlds, a space probe belonging to bioengineering corporation Life Foundation discovers four symbiotic lifeforms and brings them back to Earth. One escapes in transit, causing the ship to crash in Malaysia, but the Life Foundation recovers the other three and transports them to their research facility in San Francisco.
Main roles: Tom Hardy – Eddie Brock / Venom Michelle Williams – Anne Weying Riz Ahmed – Carlton Drake / Riot
Review: I went into the cinema not expecting much from this movie. To me, it seemed like it would be a more brutal and scary version of any previous Spiderman movie. I’m happy to say that I was oh so wrong thinking so. The movie really took me by surprise! The plot was thrilling, the characters convincing and the animation was impressive as well. I love that there was a tension right from when Eddie met Venom, as Venom didn’t seem to be that bad of a guy, but after all he still was a parasite. I really enjoyed it wayyy more than I had originally expected. Please make sure to stay after ALL the credits for 2 bonus scenes (1 after the first credits & another 1 after the second round of credits)!!!

Seeing that she is under a curse, the demon makes a deal with Sophie–if she breaks the contract he is under with Howl, then Karushifâ will lift the curse that Sophie is under, and she will return to her 18-year-old shape.

Review: I’ll keep it short and simple this time: I really enjoyed this movie! One of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies so far! The story is really fun to experience and the characters are just so likable, I really can’t say anything bad about the movie. The animation is of course just as beautiful as the whole atmosphere of the movie! Really recommend checking out this one! :)

Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru
✭✭✩✩✩
Info: 12 episodes, ~20min each | English Sub & Dub available Genre: Animation, Anime, Action, Comedy, Drama, Dub, Fantasy, Historical, Slice of Life Sub: http://kissanime.ru/Anime/Touken-Ranbu-Hanamaru Dub: http://kissanime.ru/Anime/Touken-Ranbu-Hanamaru-Dub
The year is 2205. The “historical revisionists” have begun attacks on the past in their plot to change history. The Saniwa, who have been charged with protecting history, can imbue life into objects, and has the ability to bring famous historical swords to life as male warriors. Strongest among these are the Touken Danshi. The story centers around their cheerful lives.
Review: The story and story pacing may not be for everyone, but I’m sure you’ll find a favorite character as there are so many characters to choose from. You may already be familiar with them actually, if you have played the game on which this anime is based on. The plot itself is more cheerful and happy, typical slice of life –> hint: Hanamaru = cheerful. My favorite two episodes were the very last of them since they were a bit more serious. The other anime of Touken Ranbu is supposed to have a more serious plot, although I haven’t watched it yet, I think I may like it better. I gotta add though, that there are so many characters that I had trouble remembering their names (but that might just be me, since I’m terrible with names anyway.)
In short: It’s nice to watch, but the story isn’t really special. I’m sure you’ll find a favorite character though!

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV (2016)
✭✭✭✭✩
Info: 12 and over | 1h 50min | Director: Takeshi Nozue Genre: Animation, Anime, Adventure, Drama, Action, Fantasy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5595168/?ref_=nv_sr_1
The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the hallowed Crystal, but the menacing empire of Niflheim will stop at nothing to make it theirs. War has raged between the two for as long as most can remember. King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers dubbed the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx Ulric and his fellow glaives stand before the crown city of Insomnia, fighting to stay the inexorable advance of Niflheim’s imperial army. Before the overwhelming military might of the empire, King Regis can only salvage his kingdom by accepting an ultimatum-he must cede all lands outside the crown city, and see his son, Prince Noctis, wed to Lady Lunafreya, the former princess of Tenebrae now captive of Niflheim. As the war of wills rages, the machinations of Niflheim transform Insomnia into an awe-inspiring battleground, pulling Nyx into a struggle for the very survival of the kingdom.
Main roles: Aaron Paul – Nyx Ulric (voice) Lena Headey – Lunafreya Nox Fleuret (voice) Sean Bean – Regis Lucis Caelum (voice) Liam Mulvey – Libertus Ostium (voice) Alexa Kahn – Crowe Altius (voice)
Review: In general, every Final Fantasy movie is stunningly animated and beautiful to look at. This one is no exception as well. Really unbelievable how well animated the whole movie is, but then again, if you’ve seen some movies before or have played the games, you’ll not be surprised (or disappointed). The story itself takes place at the same time as the game, so you may want to play the game before watching the movie. It’s also not a problem if you first watch it and then play the game as they add information to each other’s plot. Still, if you’ve experienced one of them first, you also know how the other one is going to end.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya / Kaguyahime no monogatari (2013)
✭✭✭✭✩
Info: 0 and over | 2h 17min | Director: Isao Takahata Genre: Animation, Anime, Adventure, Drama, Fantasy http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2576852/?ref_=nv_sr_1
An old man makes a living by selling bamboo. One day, he finds a princess in a bamboo. The princess is only the size of a finger. Her name is Kaguya. When Kaguya grows up, 5 men from prestigious families propose to her. Kaguya asks the men to find memorable marriage gifts for her, but the 5 men are unable to find what Kaguya wants. Then, the Emperor of Japan proposes to her.
Main roles: Chloë Grace Moretz – The Princess Kaguya (voice) James Caan – The Bamboo Cutter (voice) Mary Steenburgen – The Bamboo Cutter’s Wife / Narrator (voice) Darren Criss – Sutemaru (voice)
Review: Since the very start of the movie it already felt like a fairytale. The way the story was presented as well as the art and animation style really help to make it feel even more like a fairy tale. As I later learned, the plot is based on “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”. (It’s a 10th-century Japanese monogatari containing Japanese folklore. It is considered the oldest extant Japanese prose narrative although the oldest manuscript dates to 1592.) I think the art style is really fitting for telling such a story. This movie made me feel peaceful (before the and) and sad at the same time. It’s really weird, but I still enjoyed it!

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power (2017)
✭✭✭✭✭
Info: 0 and over | 1h 38min | Directors: Bonni Cohen & Jon Shenk Genre: Documentary http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6322922/?ref_=nv_sr_1
A sequel to The Inconvenient Truth, the follow-up documentary addresses the progress made to tackle the problem of climate change and Al Gore’s global efforts to persuade governmental leaders to invest in renewable energy, culminating in the landmark signing of 2016’s Paris Climate Agreement.
Main roles: Al Gore– Himself George W. Bush – Himself John Kerry – Himself Marco Krapels – Himself Angela Merkel – Herself Barack Obama – Himself (archive footage) Vladimir Putin – Himself Donald J. Trump – Himself (archive footage)
Review: I know that talking about climate change may be difficult or even cause some problems with people who don’t believe in it. But I think, nonetheless, it’s great to educate yourself about a topic that is so directly affecting us. The movie itself had a great mix of facts and graphs showing the problems we are already dealing with and also some scenes where the viewer gets to see prove that we are already improving and healing the earth. I think, no matter what your view on climate change currently is, it wouldn’t hurt to watch this movie. Even if it’s just so that you know what the scientists are saying. In my opinion, it’s a movie everyone should watch!
I would also like to let you read this rating HerbieStretch from imdb.com:
It is so easy to ignore climate change if you passively receive ‘news’ from the mainstream media. I never saw 'An Inconvenient Truth’ so this was an introduction to Al Gore and his beliefs. As such it was so powerful that I decided to buy the DVD when available even while I was watching this film - I need to remind myself that climate change is happening. The arguments are presented here in an easily-digested form and with striking footage of the effects of global warming. The ten years that have elapsed since the first documentary have only enhanced the credibility of Al Gore and his arguments and he is able to demonstrate that on occasions. The film makes it clear that addressing climate change cuts across political parties, religions and nations. Please see the film.
There are also more informations available on the website of Al Gore as well as the official website of the movie: https://inconvenientsequel.tumblr.com/action

Kiki’s Delivery Service/ Majo no takkyûbin (1989)
✭✭✭✭✩
Info: 0 and over | 1h 43min | Director: Hayao Miyazaki Genre: Animation, Anime, Adventure, Drama http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097814/?ref_=nv_sr_1
This is the story of a young witch, named Kiki who is now thirteen years old. But she is still a little green and plenty headstrong, but also resourceful, imaginative, and determined. With her trusty wisp of a talking cat named Jiji by her side she’s ready to take on the world, or at least the quaintly European seaside village she’s chosen as her new home.
Main roles: Minami Takayama – Kiki / Ursula (voice) Rei Sakuma – Jiji (voice) Kappei Yamaguchi – Tombo (voice)
Review: The very first thing I noticed was the gorgeous art style and animation. It really amazed me how much detail and love was put into it! I mean, that’s already kinda typical of studio ghibli, but still! The plot is cute and humorous, simply a delightful movie to watch - fitting for viewers of any age.

As the United States raced against Russia to put a man in space, NASA found untapped talent in a group of African-American female mathematicians that served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history. Based on the unbelievably true life stories of three of these women, known as “human computers”, we follow these women as they quickly rose the ranks of NASA alongside many of history’s greatest minds specifically tasked with calculating the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and guaranteeing his safe return. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while their brilliance and desire to dream big, beyond anything ever accomplished before by the human race, firmly cemented them in U.S. history as true American heroes.
Main roles: Taraji P. Henson – Katherine G. Johnson Octavia Spencer – Dorothy Vaughan Janelle Monáe – Mary Jackson Kevin Costner – Al Harrison Kirsten Dunst – Vivian Mitchell Jim Parsons – Paul Stafford Mahershala Ali – Colonel Jim Johnson
Review: One of the most interesting, thrilling and at the same time touching movies I’ve ever seen. I’m still so shocked that those amazing, brave and talented women really existed! From beginning to end, I was so involved into the plot, the characters, really everything. After the movie ended, I couldn’t help myself but to feel inspired. If I was able to give it more than 5 stars, I would! It was truly amazing to watch! An absolute must-watch in my opinion!
