Winter Soldier Arm Tutorial - By Sketch McDraw
Tumblr media
Hello! As I’ve had several people ask about the creation process of the arm I had made for my Bucky costume, I thought I’d make a tutorial and share it with you guys - hope it helps :)     So lets get started! Step 1 - The Template.   To create the arm I first needed to make a template, so I used the left arm from a mannequin and wrapped it up in cling film, then cut strips of masking tape to to wrap around and cover the arm (If you don’t have a mannequin arm you can always make your own by wrapping your own arm up and then covering it in tape, then once removed tape it back up and stuff it full of plastic bags/wadding or fill it with expanding foam).  Once I had covered the arm from the wrist to the end of the shoulder in masking tape I then began to draw on the detail in pencil, then once I was happy with it all I went over in permanent marker.
Tumblr media
After completing the detail of the upper arm I repeated the process with the forearm, and made sure to leave the inner arm/elbow joint blank as this area is not needed as you’ll need space to be able to freely move and bend your arm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 2 - Making the Arm.
To remove the masking tape template design I used a very sharp scalpel and carefully cut a straight line going from the top of the inside of the arm to the bottom of the arm at the wrist.
Once I had cut the blank elbow area away from the upper and lower arm pieces I drew around them both onto a sheet or worbla and cut them out, then heated them up and molded them around the mannequin arm making sure not to stick the inside seams together so that I could remove them from the arm afterwards (I forgot to take pictures of this part as I was in a rush unfortunately, but you can see a bit of it in the next picture). The next step was making the detail to cover both the base pieces of the arm, to do this I cut up both the templates to make smaller ones that I could then use to draw around onto the craft foam, cut out and then cover the facing side in worbla, making sure to cover the edges and then used a scalpel to cut away the excess whilst it was still warm and pliable, then reheated the pieces up and stuck them to the arm and used a metal ruler to help straighten the edges of the worbla and to make sure the edges bonded to the main arm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I had done all the detail on both pieces of the arm I removed them from the mannequin arm and on the upper arm I bonded the seam line together on the inside of the arm using a strip of worbla, then made a few strips to cover the seam line on the outside. The strip on the Inner arm of the forearm was made from a seperate piece that I then heated and attached to the main forearm down the one side, while the other side of the strip that is tucked under the main arm is left so that when I put it on/take it off the arm flexes allowing my hand to slide through.

Tumblr media
Step 3 - Painting. Before painting the arm I gave the worbla several layers of sightly watered down PVA Glue to help seal the worbla and to help get rid of the the natural texture of the worbla. The next step was to give both pieces 3 coats of white primer spray paint and when fully dry I then used a damp piece of Wet & Dry sandpaper to sand back the paint a little to make it smother.Once that was done I used a damp cloth to clean away any excess dust from sanding and then dried it off before giving both pieces a few light coats of Black Satin spray paint as a base layer before spraying both pieces with a dark silver spray paint. The next step was to lightly spray the arm with a much lighter silver, then once dried I then started weathering the arm by lightly spraying some areas with the darker silver and also the black spray paint, then painted on some scuff marks using watered down black paint and then lightly wiped it off/smudged it to make the arm look tarnished and battle worn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To create the star I first made a template to work out the size needed, then once I then placed it onto the arm and carefully drew around it with a red permanent marker. The next step was to use some electrical tape to go around the edges of the star making sure then were all straight and went inside of the little trenches between the detail so that when it came to painting it the paint wouldn’t bleed under the tape (again I forgot to take pictures of this process as I was in a rush).
I then used masking tape and newspaper to cover the rest of the arm then sprayed the exposed star shaped area with a a few light coats of white spray paint, then when it was dry I then sprayed it with red spray paint. The next step was to them mask of the inside of the star using electrical tape to and then sprayed the exposed edges of the star to make the black outline of the star.  Once fully dried I then carefully removed all of the tape and the newspaper to reveal the red star, then began to weather it by lightly spraying areas of it with a mist like spray of black spray paint and created scratches and chips in the paint by using a thin paint brush with a ‘chrome’ colored enamel based paint, then I sprayed both arms with a few layers of clear lacquer to seal the paint and protect it from chipping easily. For underneath the arm I used a long Silver/Grey ballgown glove.

*I plan to make a piece that covers the elbow joint and fingers at some point, so I will update this tutorial when I do. I hope this tutorial has been of some help to all you, and if you have any questions please feel to contact me on my page at: Sketch McDraw Cosplay :)

creating the River Song Journal
Hello There,
a few years ago (dear lord, that makes me sound so old) I wanted to make a very special birthday present for my best friend who happenes to be a Whovian, just like me.
And I thought I could get a nice River Song Journal. But all those you can find online are either crappy or waaayyy to expensive.
So I decided to do what I can do best Save the day! caughing Sorry, it wont happen again. I decided to make one myself.
Tumblr media
The reason this post is coming now: I just found the old pictures and want to share my thoughts and the struggles I had trough the process. Maybe I can inspire others or help you creating your very own River Song Journal.
Lean back and enjoy the show:
First I did some research and stuff cuz I wanted to create something as accurate as possible.
(1) I googled around a little for the Color
Tumblr media
or this, same color code tho.
Tumblr media
But they didn’t sell that in my local art store so screw that I had to mix my own color! (a picture will appear later in the process, like a wilde bulbasaur or something)
I’ll just get some shades of blue, a white and a black one in order to … improvise.
I went shopping
A blank hardcover Notebook; the Colours; carton; glue; Tissue Paper. I already had a box cutter somewhere at home.
Tumblr media
For the particular kind of pattern I did some more research.
And found this nice thingy
Tumblr media
somebody else created that in order to also make their own Journal big thanks for that, it really helped me back then
but still I had to alter it in order to make it fit on the book I got.
Tumblr media
Lets get to Work then!
I would really recommend switching between cutting with the box cutter and the scissor because cutter takes longer but doesn’t really hurt while scissor hurst and is fast. But you have to be very careful with the scissor because I ruined some of the carton pieces.
Tumblr media
And now glue it on the Book!!
Tumblr media
This looks like something already!
carefully glue the Tissue paper on it in order to create a nice patina, haptic and optic. Use a brush and something wallpaper adhesive-ish. It’s nice finish for the surface.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next step: Coloring!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
always let it dry properly and don’t color it too unitary. Uniqueness is beautiful.
Tumblr media
Try not to let THAT happen.
Tumblr media
Last thing: making it look more antique and used.
Google helps. Earl gray colors better than coffee or different things. So let me just brew some an put it in a spray can
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Voilà !!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sidenote: She was very happy about the present. And I had fun making it!
Tumblr media
Have a nice day!

Star Wars Legends - Skywalkers
“The Force is strong with my family.”
“Is every third human in this galaxy named Solo?”
“I say, sir, must every generation of Solos and Skywalkers act like this?”
“You’re a Skywalker! Act like one!”
“Family takes care of family.”

Sana Starros in latest excerpt from Last Shot: A Han and Lando Novel
“What was that—” Han yelled, and then a blaster shot shrieked through the air from the doorway.
Han was on the floor before he’d realized he’d jumped for cover. Above him, Maz dished out rushed commands as the few patrons left screamed and ducked under tables. Sana flew past, let off two shots toward the door, and glared at Han. “You coming?”
Another shot fizzed and then thunked against the bar right by Han’s head. “Coming!” he yelled, hopping up and dashing for the back exit behind Sana. “Who did you piss off now?” he demanded as they broke out into the thick Takodanan night.
“Bounty hunters,” Sana said. “Mean ones.”
“Is there a nice kind?”
The wall beside Han exploded, showering them both with debris as they hurtled out of the way. “That wasn’t a regular blaster,” Han said, glancing up. A cruel reptilian face glared out from the lit doorway. “You got us tangled up with a Trandoshan?”
“I told you it was mean bounty hunters,” Sana said.
The creature raised his mortar launcher and then something huge clobbered him from behind. Frapsen. All six of the Fromprath’s arms ensnarled the bounty hunter as the two tumbled forward in a clutter of curses and howls. Three more figures tumbled out of Maz’s place, blasters blazing.
“Go!” Sana yelled. “Now!”
They bolted down a quiet side street, cut a hard left, and crossed the main square toward the starship bay. The whole world had snapped perfectly into focus as soon as those blaster shots rang out, and now the hours leading up to it just seemed like a painful haze.
“The Falcon ready?” Sana asked.
“Always, sister. Always.”
“Are you, though?”
“Usually, sister. Usually.”
They made their way between a Gungan freighter and two corvettes, ducked around the landing gear of someone’s poorly parked shuttle, and then dashed up the gangplank of the Falcon.
“Chewie!” Han yelled, stepping over some old clothes and a small pile of—What was that? Bottles of something—and barreling toward the cockpit. “Chewie, where are you? We gotta—”
The engines rumbled to life as Han slid into the seat beside his furry copilot. “Well, there you are,” he muttered, clicking on the navicomputer and prepping the hyperdrive. “What took you so long?”
Chewie barked with annoyance and then yelped, pointing. The bounty hunters had stormed into the bay, and a slew of shots peppered the Falcon along with the ships around it.
“Sana!” Han yelled over his shoulder. “We’re gonna need you on—”
Blasts splattered out from the Falcon, scattering the bounty hunters.
“—cannons,” Han finished. “Well, all right then. Glad to see everyone’s making themselves at home.” He pulled the accelerator and let the roaring engines fill him. Space awaited, that impossible vastness, as empty as his heart, where he could be perfectly free.
As long as they didn’t get blown up on the way out.
More blasts rocked the Falcon as they circled into the sky and then shot over the ancient spirals of Maz’s castle and dancing lights in Nymeve Lake.
“What in the stars did you steal, Sana?” Han demanded as they zoomed out of Takodana’s gravity pull and out into space.
A chuckle crackled over the comm. “About that . . .”
Chewie let out another growl of warning as three dots appeared on the radar screen.
“Yeah, one of ’em was a Trandoshan,” Han said. “Why?”
Chewie snarled and pushed a button.
“Why are we slowing down?” Sana yelled over the comm.
“Good question, Chewie,” Han snapped. “Why are we slowing down?”
The Falcon rocked as the approaching ships released a barrage of laserfire.
“Chewie!” Han yelled.
The Wookiee slammed both fists on the control panel and roared.
“No, we can’t turn around,” Han said. “I don’t care what the Trandoshans did to the Wookiees. Okay, easy, easy! Of course I care what they did, but we can’t deal with that right now, Chewie. We’ve got cargo to deliver, and payment to collect, and we also don’t have the firepower it would take to go head-to-head with these guys. Okay?”
Chewie grumbled and the Falcon blasted forward.
“I promise we can go after those reptilian freaks some other time, all right?”
Chewie yelped.
“And anyway,” Sana said over the comm, “those two ships with him . . .”
“TIE fighters?” Han yelled, gaping at the monitor. “Chewie, make the jump! I’ve had it with this—” The Falcon shook, cockpit lights flickering as several alarms bleeped out at once. “Chewie, get us out of here!”
Chewie roared, slamming the control panels. The stars slid into elongated stripes toward them and Han exhaled for what felt like the first time in hours.
Chewbacca muttered something under his breath and Han shook his head. “You ain’t kidding.” He clicked on the comm. “Sana!”
“You don’t have to yell,” Sana said, poking her head into the cockpit. “I’m right here.”
Han and Chewie both spun around and glared at her. “You have some explaining to do.”
Last Shot: A Han and Lando Novel arrives April 17.

Zannah, known as “Rain” during her childhood, was a Human female from the planet Somov Rit. She was recruited to fight for the Jedi’s Army of Light during the Ruusan campaign of the New Sith Wars but, after arriving on Ruusan, was separated from the group during a Sith attack and presumed dead. Unbeknownst to the Jedi, she had been saved and befriended by a member of the native Bouncer species called Laa. When the Brotherhood of Darkness later unleashed a planet-wide Force storm, Rain survived by instinctively enveloping herself and Laa with a bubble of Force energy. Not long afterward, the young girl watched as Laa was haplessly killed by Jedi scouts. Stricken with anger and grief, she unwittingly gave in to the dark side and murdered the Jedi. Her display of rage attracted the attention of the war’s only surviving Dark Lord, Darth Bane, who decided to take her as his apprentice. Rain cast away the handle of her youth and instead embraced her birth name, becoming Darth Zannah.
