ramadan 30 day challenge
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
introducing the ramadan 30 day challenge!
I made this challenge in the hopes of catering to as many people as I can - so, regardless of anyone's home situation, health, money, whether or not you live near a mosque or a community etc, I think it is somewhat do-able or adaptable for all! you can access anything you need for this (verses/surahs from the Qur'an for eg) online. I also know that for some people (depending on countries etc), ramadan is either 29 or 30 days, so it's fine to finish on the 29th day if necessary.
if you miss a couple days as well (or end up seeing this post halfway through ramadan), just pick up from whatever day of ramadan it is!
it starts off easy and gets harder as you go along! i'm also going to be doing this ramadan challenge and posting my own updates on here, Insha’Allah! if you do this too, please do tag me because I would love to see how people are getting on! ♡ here it is:
recite surah ikhlas 3 times
recite durood sharif 3 times
read Qur'an after asr
recite the 3 Quls (last 3 surahs of the Qur'an) in the evening/before sleeping today
listen to an islamic podcast
write down 5 things you are grateful to Allah for on paper or phone notes app
istighfar 100 times
read all of surah mulk before bed
wake up for tahajjud and pray (at least) 2 rakaats
learn 5 names/attributes of Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ
do something nice for somebody else - can even be very small and will still be rewarded for it
wear your favourite abaya/thobe/modest clothing for every salah today. look your best for Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ in your prayer like you would to go to a special event
give some (charity) sadaqah (create a sadaqah jar/box!)
read the last 2 verses of surah baqarah before sleeping
make a du'a for your friends and family - name them and pray for something specific for each of them
read all of surah Ya Sin after fajr
pray 2 nafl rakaats (voluntary prayer) today after the 2 sunnah rakaats of zuhr
no backbiting/gossiping about anyone at all and 2 nafl rakaats (voluntary prayer) if you do
pick a surah from the Qur'an and read the commentary for each verse
memorise the dua to recite on laylatul qadr اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي Allahumma innaka 'Afuwwun, tuhibbul 'afwa, fa'fu 'anni "O Allah, You are indeed Forgiving and love to forgive, so forgive me."
donate to a charity (for palestine!!). even the smallest amount will be beneficial + rewarded by Allah
recite ayatul kursi after each 5 fard (obligatory) salah
pray all the 12 sunnah today: 2 rakaats before Fajr; 4 rakaats before zuhr and two rakaats after; 2 rakaats after Maghrib; and 2 rakaats after Ishaa
pray (at least) 2 rakaats of taraweeh (either at the mosque or at home by yourself/with family!)
pray 2 rakaats of duha (optional) prayer - it is between 15 minutes after sunrise until zuhr time. (not after zuhr!!)
recite subhanallahi wabihamdi, subhanallahil adheem 100 times - (Glory be to Allah and all praise is due to Him, glory be to Allah, the Great)
be extra modest today (tailored to you. wear hijab outside if you don't, or wear your loosest outfit or lower your gaze completely (including lowering it on social media) today etc. whatever being extra modest is for you, do that today).
pray on time, no procrastination or delays. check what local time each prayer is for you and pray then (unless you're praying at the mosque!)
istighfar x1000 times
pray some of the nawafil ON TOP OF all the sunnah prayers that accompany the 5 obligatory prayers: - 2 rakaats of duha prayer - 2 rakaats after the 2 sunnah rakaats of zuhr - 4 rakaats before asr - 2 rakaats after the 2 sunnah rakaats of maghrib - 2 rakaats after the 2 sunnah rakaats of ishaa (extra challenge: wake up for tahajjud too)
level extreme: if you want an extra extra challenge, you can continue doing each one every day as you go along. so day 1 would be recite surah ikhlas 3 times and day 2 would be recite surah ikhlas and durood sharif 3 times, day 3 would be recite surah ikhlas and durood sharif 3 times and read Qur'an after asr... and you get the gist. if you do this, good luck on day 30 when you have 30 things to do lol
note: giving sadaqah (charity) can be adapted if donating money is a struggle - for eg, doing dhikr on behalf of somebody else can count as sadaqah. click here for more info on this.
may Allah make this challenge easy for whoever intends to participate and let the deeds indeed be multiplied by 100 this ramadan and forgive us for our shortcomings, Ameen ♡

tips for writing muslim characters
except im a muslim, born and raised
dont mix it up with arab characters, yes a muslim can be arab and muslim but theres a difference. the link to my post abt writing arabs is here
first and foremost, not all muslims are arabs, and not all arabs are muslims. yes, most terminology and the holy book is in arabic, but that doesnt mean its exclusively arabs
indonesia (not an arab country) has the highest population of muslims worldwide
the arab country with the most christians is egypt, but the arab country with the highest population of christians is lebanon
not all practicing muslim women wear hijab (some extremely religious women might not wear a hijab)
five prayers a day: fajr (before sunrise), zuhr (midday), asr (afternoon), maghreb/maghrib (sunset), ishaa (nighttime)
call to prayer is known as 'azan', you can listen to it on youtube
muslims use the lunar calendar (known as the hijri calendar), which also has 12 months but its around two weeks shorter than the gregorian calendar. most people only remember the ninth month: ramadan
fasting consists of not eating/drinking from fajr until maghrib. you stop as soon as the azan for fajr sounds, and you can start again as soon as the azan for maghrib sounds. you fast for the entire month of ramadan, but its also encouraged to fast on mondays, thursdays, and the 14th/15th/16th days of each month of the hijri calendar
allah isnt the name of god. allah is the arabic word for 'god'
women dont have to cover up completely until puberty, athough some girls cover up before then and other women dont cover up at all
women can be religious and not cover up
the word 'hijab' doesnt show up in the quran, its 'khimar'. hijab is to cover up completely, not just hair. you cant wear a headscarf with a short sleeved shirt
men have to cover up too. from their navel to their knees absolutely has to be covered up, and (in most islamic cultures, not necessarily exactly religious) they cover up their chests as well
also men are told to avert their gazes from women more than women are told to cover up. youd find a lot of men in muslim countries not looking up from the floor when walking, especially in areas w a lot of women
kids by the age of eight can usually recite at least four chapters from the quran (the first one and the last three, mostly. it doesnt matter if theyre not arab)
if you want to use verses from the quran for whatever reason, i recommend quran.com
theres only one version of the quran. the same copy thats existed for 1400 years and millions of people have memorized it
on that note, people who memorize the quran are called hafiz, and there isnt a particular age. theres a three year old hafiz and a woman who didnt memorize it until age eighty three
there are two different sources for islamic law: the quran (holy book), and hadith (quotes of the prophet). dua' is completely different, its a prayer used to ask help from god, but unlike the five prayers, it doesnt really require a specific ritual. you just sit, face the direction of mecca, and say the dua'
superstitions are haram, but muslims do believe in black magic (its sihr in arabic and its one of the biggest sins) and djinn (there are djinn muslims but theyre widely regarded somewhat like monsters who encourage/help you to do black magic)
allahu akbar means "god is greater" or "god is the greatest". it isnt used as a signal to blow people up, and it isnt a term used purely by islam extremists
assalamu aleikum / waaleikum assalam mean, respectively, "peace be upon you" and "and peace be upon you too" basically just our way of just saying "hi" along with the reply
subhanallah means "glory be to god" usually when witnessing a miracle or when amazed
mashaallah - there arent any exact english equivalents but it means "what god wills". usually for compliments or to protect someone from evil eye
insha'allah - simply "god willing" but we use this when talking about the future (like "will you come to school?" "insha'allah" or "we'll get the gift, right?" "insha'allah"). can be replaced by the lesser used "bi'ithn illah"
alhamdu lillah - "praise be to god" or "thanks be to god. used in the way you might imagine, but also as a way to express that youre doing fine. "how are you doing today, sister?" "alhamdu lillah" (also when finishing a meal / finishing drinking water)
astaghfir ullah - "i seek forgiveness from god" whenever we see someone do something haram or when we ourselves do something haram and wish to repent
bismillah - "in the name of god" we use this whenever we begin something. a lot of arab literature starts with this. every chapter im the quran starts with this. every meal starts with saying this before eating
you can submit asks if you have any questions, but try to be a lil specific !!
feel free to rb with more info :)

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: Allah's Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray two rak`at before the Zuhr prayer and two rak`at after it. He also used to pray two rak`at after the Maghrib prayer in his house, and two rak`at after the `Isha' prayer. He never prayed after Jumua prayer till he departed (from the Mosque), and then he would pray two rak`at at home. Sahih al-Bukhari 937 In-book reference : Book 11, Hadith 61 // Sahih Muslim 729 In-book reference : Book 6, Hadith 128

The heart break when you spend your last day at home 🥺
No more gatherings on the roof with tea and a pipe. No more walks through the village and fresh flowers in our hair. No more nights gathered on the khatts and churi in the morning. No more boats and bumpy ass jeep rides where we’re clinging on for dear life. There’s no place in the world, no holiday thats better than being back home in Kashmir. When else can you just wake up, pray zuhr and go visit the graves of all our loved ones in one place, on a daily basis ? I’ve been to so many places and rarely ever felt like taking my phone out to capture the moment to look back on, simply bc I know I won’t miss it that much. But at home … I’ll take a picture of every cup of tea.

I woke up today and prayed zuhr and went to the kitchen and my grandma asked me why I am so low and not smiling (yeah I couldn't pretend today)... In the evening I was talking to my father about buying a new mobile phone and suddenly out of nowhere I burst into tears and had a panic attack in front of him and then everyone gathered in my room and took me to the living room I was shaking badly and crying, my teeth were chattering..they asked me some questions and I got so angry and I don't remember now whatever I said ahh... and the whole family knows now that I have depression and anxiety but yeah the things they were saying were expected ughh I am embarrassed and feeling disgusting now...I was having trouble breathing my uncle took me to the hospital and then my cardiologist asked me some questions and tomorrow I am gonna meet a psychiatrist. :|

👃 : Does your OC smell good? Do they have a signature scent?
Tumblr media
this took me practically all day bc i am,,,,, slow af when it actually comes to putting thoughts on paper but. three different questions, three different OCs!!! we'll do Jalal, Nithya and Zuhr for this since i have been dying to talk about them <333
👃 : Does your OC smell good? Do they have a signature scent?
God. so this is entirely my fault and is all based on that time i walked through a local market and was literally glued to the stall that was selling little imported bottles of oud attar (which i did not buy bc they were too expensive *sobs*) but uh. if you had to ask me that is more or less exactly what Jalal smells like. very warm, very earthy, woody (other than the oud, ofc, sandalwood if you squint)—there's some floral there as well, jasmine and rose, the afterthought of dampness after a wash. (think of dirt after a light rain, not a complete soaking, but just enough that you can smell the petrichor. the best reference i can give that is hopefully close enough irl is this mitti attar, which i have resolved to save up to buy one day bc i will f*ck around to have the scent of rain in a bottle tyvm) if you're around him at the end of a long day (and he hasn't bathed yet) he smells faintly of smoke and spices, saffron maybe? anyway the point is he smells f*cking good and the threat of me biting him is real
💦 : Is your OC’s attractiveness based on looks or a more intangible aura?
the aura, hands down. Nithya is an absolutely f*cking gorgeous human being (i mean look at her) but i think the real appeal comes from the way she carries herself. she's been through a lot to get to where she is and still struggles with her mental health, so one of the most important things that she's done is work on her confidence—despite being soft spoken you can almost sense when she enters a room, now, that's how much the entire atmosphere changes.
💌 : How would they plan a romantic evening for a significant other?
both Zuhr and her fiancé prefer a quiet evening in rather than going out and being mobbed by the press—after all there isn't much of a way to get around without being seen when one of you (In-tae *cough*) is a world famous actor and the other is the literal leader of a GCC nation, so depending on their schedule she'll usually plan to have dinner together (rock paper scissors decides who cooks, if they cook at all) and watch a movie afterwards. (what movie that is hinges on whether Zuhr is in the mood to dig up one of In-tae's older releases and watch him squirm throughout the entire thing as he severely judges his past acting skills, sksksksk) it's more everyday domesticity than anything else, but considering the fact that they rarely see each other except for when one of them is visiting for whatever, i am going to give in and say it is the little things that count.
send me piping hot oc asks!

a post in my drafts since last september.
my opinion on kids and the child hating discourse is sometimes my nephews and nieces are really loud while im napping and wake me up and it annoys me and they bug me while I'm doing something and want silence and they've broken so many of my things and they come into my room first thing in the morning and children crying in transport on long journeys are annoying but sometimes when I'm in a depressive spiral and don't want to leave my room someone will come in to talk to me and they compliment me when I do the most basic thing in the world because its impressive to them and they dedicate their arts and crafts to me and they'd come into my room because they were thinking of me first thing in the morning and they wanted to say hi and I remember that's the most basic form of love and little kids in the store i work at will light up when you compliment their clothes and are the most excited people in the world when you give them the reciept and also sitting in a cramped plane or bus for hours is uncomfortable and painful and the only reason I don't cry is because I have headphones a book and a sense of shame

Performing 12 Sunnah prayers is easy but the reward from Allah (swt) is tremendous.
“The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever persists in performing twelve Rak’ah from the Sunnah, a house will be built for him in Paradise: four before the Zuhr, two Rak’ah after Zuhr, two Rak’ah after Maghrib, two Rak’ah after the ‘Isha’ and two Rak’ah before Fajr.’”
|Sunan Ibn Majah|
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The two Rak'ah before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains."

The 12 Sunnah Prayers
the Holy Prophet ﷺ offered extra rakaats of prayer in addition to those of the 5 fard (obligatory) prayers. these prayers are called sunnah prayers. offering sunnah prayers are incredibly encouraged - almost to the point of necessity. below, in purple, show each of the sunnah's alongside the 5 daily prayers.
sunnah - 2 rakaats before FAJR - 2 rakaats
sunnah - 4 rakaats before ZUHR - 4 rakaats sunnah - 2 rakaats after
ASR - 4 rakaats
MAGHRIB - 3 rakaats sunnah - 2 rakaats
ISHAA - 4 rakaats sunnah - 2 rakaats
may Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ make it easy for us all to follow the ways of our beloved Prophet ﷺ and offer the sunnah prayers alongside our 5 daily prayers, Allahumma Ameen.

A Plan for the First 10 Days of Dhul-Hijah
The Best Days of the World
1. Intention
Make the intention for your deeds to be sincerely for Allah ﷻ during these days, and have the conscious intention to expose yourself to the blessings of Allah ﷻ.
Whoever is sincere towards Allah ﷻ, Allah ﷻ will be sincere towards him (meaning He ﷻ will fulfill his wishes).
2. Repentance
Make a table of all the sins that you want to pledge to Allah ﷻ that you will stop doing them.
The Conditions of Repentance:
1. Abandoning the sin completely.
2. Feeling remorse for what has already happened (of sins).
3. Having the firm intention never to return to the sin ever again.
3. Praying
The Five Daily Prayers (in their Fixed Times)
Leave everything behind you as soon as you hear the azaan and get up and pray.
"The best of deeds is prayer during its earliest time."
Remember, you will be doing what our Lord ﷻ loves the most.
4. As-Sunan Ar-Rawaatib
12 Raka'ahs everyday.
(2 before Fajr -4 before Zuhr and 2 after it - 2 after Maghrib-2 after Isha)
"Whoever prays in a day and night 12 raka'ahs voluntarily, Allah ﷻ will build a house for him in Paradise."
Imagine🤍🙏🏻
5. Night Prayer
Any even number of rakaahs, and end them with one rakaah of Witr and make du'a for everything you want.
"And pray during the night when the people are asleep, and you will enter Jannah in peace."
What more could you want?!
6. Duha Prayer
Two to eight raka'ahs, any time between 15 minutes after sunrise till 15 minutes before Zuhr.
It is a daily charity for every joint in your body.
(Also known as Chaast or Awwabeen Prayer.)
7. Fasting
Have the intention to fast the first 9 days of Dhul-Hijjah, as the Messenger ﷺ of Allah ﷻ used to do, especially the Day of 'Arafah.
"Fasting the Day of 'Arafah, l anticipate that Allah ﷻ will expiate (through it the sins of) the year before it and the year after it."
8. Quran
Our goal is to finish reciting the whole Qur'an at least once (during these 10 days):
Day 1 - From Surat Al-Fatihah till the end of Surat Ale 'Imraan.
Day 2 - From Surat An-Nisa till the end of Surat Al-An'aam.
Day 3 - From Surat Al-A'raaf till the end of Surat At-Tawbah.
Day 4 - From Surat Yunus till the end of Surat Ar-Ra'd.
Day 5 - From Surat Ibraheer til the end of Surat Al-Kahf.
Day 6 - From Surat Marlam till the end of Surat Al-Mu'minoon.
Day 7 - From Surat Ash-Shu'araah till the end of Surat Al-Ahzaab.
Day 8 - From Surat Saba till the end of Surat Fussilat.
Day 9 - From Surat Ash-Shura till the end of Surat Al-Hadeed.
Day 10 - From Surat Al-Mujadilah til the end of Surat An-Naas,
9. Zikr
(Remembrance of Allah ﷻ)
Let your tongue be busy with:
100 times at the very least
“and mention the name of Allah ﷻ on known days” (al-baqara: 203)
10. Azkaar
(Let these Azkaar also be a part of your day)
1. The azkaar of the morning and the evening.
2. The azkaar after every prayer.
3. Repeating the azaan and the du'a after it.
4. The azkaar before sleeping.
Write down some examples of these azkaar on paper and stick/hang them up where you usually walk.
(meaning where you'd see them a lot, just to be reminded of them as much as possible).
11. Du'a (Supplication)
Write down every single thing you've ever wanted and keep supplicating to Allah ﷻ again and again for it everyday (especially in Sujood, between the azaan and the iqamah, and during the last one-third of the night).
And persist in making even more du'a on the Day of 'Arafah.
And watch all your wishes come true after a while in sha Allah ﷻ.
12. Supplicating for Others
Assign a portion of your du' a for at least a hundred people. Choose ten people everyday from your family, spouse, friends, teachers, and anyone who has ever benefited you in any way, and make alot of dua for them, from your heart.
And make du'a for all the Muslims:
"May Allah ﷻ forgive me and my parents and the believing men and the believing women and the muslim men and the muslim women, alive and deceased"
13. Charity
Do not let a single day go by without giving out some charity, even if it is just a small amount.
Think of ten needy people that you want to help, or put a little money in a cash box everyday and take out and give away the whole amount on the last day.
14. Maintain the Ties of Kinship
Give a call or leave a message everyday to one of your extended family members.
The message can be as follows:
"How are you t/n? l hope you are well. I just wanted to let you know that l am remembering you a lot in my du'as today.”
15. Reviving a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ
Aim to do a Sunnah act everyday, with the intention of reviving the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ
For example:
- Saying Bismillah (before starting anything).
-Sitting down while drinking.
Starting with the right hand or right side (when doing certain things).
- Reciting the opening supplication (in the prayer before reciting Surat Al-Fatihah).
- Performing Wudu before going to sleep.
- Reciting the prescribed dua after making Wudu.
16. Prohibitions
Beware of wasting the best days of the world and the greatest days of worship in:
Watching TV
Social Media
Backbiting
useless talk
Sleeping too much
Perhaps you may never get these days again.
may Allah ﷻ accept from us all, ameen 🤍
