charlotte what are your favorite concept albums :] i'm trying to listen to music more and i like concepts
hope by klaatu is my ultimate favorite concept album!! its prog rock from 1977 about space and an alien war and a lighthouse keeper and stuff :) so many amazing songs im actually getting chills all over my body just thinking about So Said The Lighthouse Keeper. VERY IMPORTANT there exists a song called Epilogue its 40 seconds long its not on the album but you HAVE to listen to it between lighthouse keeper and the title track im begging you its so pretty and i think sets up the title track perfectly. its such a shame they didnt put it on the album for whatever reason.
other faves are eldorado (another album i could write a Paragraph about) and time by elo, ziggy stardust and diamond dogs by david bowie, songs for the deaf by qotsa, deltron 3030, plastic beach by gorillaz, were only in it for the money by frank zappa, wywh by pink floyd, days of future passed by the moody blues, thick as a brick by jethro tull, circus by argent, paradise theatre by styx, preservation act 2 by the kinks, and master of brutality by church of misery :)

re: the music recs post from a while back that I never got around to responding to (apologies)
chordsykat
The Soul Cages - Sting The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie The Velvet Underground and Nico - The Velvet Underground The Queen is Dead - The Smiths Low Spark of Hig-Heeled Boys - Traffic Fragile - Yes; (Just based on what you have here)
Sting for sure, I've listened to his best-of. Disassociating to "Fields of Gold" has gotten me through many a retail shift.
That Bowie album I've already listened to, I had that album in heavy rotation during college.
I don't think I've listened to Velvet Underground or Traffic yet.
I have complicated feelings about Morrissey as a person despite really liking The Smiths and some of Morrissey's older solo stuff. I should sit down and listen to a non-best of of theirs, though.
I do have to listen to YES aside from "haha funny song from JoJo".
kvr0ii
A couple personal faves are Glass Houses (Billy Joel) Business as Usual (Men at Work) Spanish Train And Other Stories (Chris DeBurgh)!! They fit into this category, and all have really good songs!
Can you believe I live in a Big Billy Joel Household (my parents danced to "Just The Way You Are" at their wedding) and I don't believe I've listened to a full non-best of Billy Joel album?
I need to listen to more Men at Work, I really like "Overkill".
Chris DeBurgh I'd need to look up, but I trust your judgement.
purringshark
Jethro Tull!
Another "I need to look into them beyond their best of" band, my dad loves them. Between Jethro Tull and Genesis, rock music needs more flute.

*drops in through the ceiling* Greetings,
For the character ask game I once again humbly request Delgado (or if someone has already requested him, three). I desperately need more threegado content in my life. Favourite married but at the same time divorced couple ;p
Thank you once again/in advance 😊
Seeing your content, especially your ask games, always leaves me giggling (or alternatively crying) Your head cannons are always so brilliant and I will - without question accept them as cannon.
Farewell and have the best week
*vanishes*
Tumblr media
Awww, thank you so much! For the kind words and because married couples shouldn't be separated (and also because headcanons overlap), here's the both of them!
1: sexuality headcanon - I suppose they're both demisexual? As in they are the duo that established the Master as Doctorsexual and the Doctor as having a libido rise in the Master's vicinity, so I guess that's the closest term human sexology has for what they have?
2: otp - each other, of course, they very very married <3
3: brotp - for Three it's definitely the Brigadier, for Delgado... this is a bit of a stretch of brotp on parental relations, but the way he accepted that the Doctor adopted Jo so now he too has a human daughter is everything
4: notp - I get a bit of a rise when they are shipped with other regenerations (as in Three with other Masters and Delgado with other Doctors); don't get me wrong they'd get along just fine with other faces but they are too married for it to go into shipping territory; I do see them giving NuWho thoscheis intense couples councelling, though
5: first headcanon that pops into my head - Three is a huge fan of David Bowie (this extends to all Doctors tbh, where the hell do you think Ten got his cheekbones?), with whom he struck an acquaintance and keeps playing him alien music (Ziggy Stardust is very much a real person); he brought the Master to one of their (time travelling, he wanted to prove a point) meetings, and within a few days Bowie wrote The Man Who Sold The World
6: favorite line from this character - this evolved into a full blown meta, but the The point is that one must rule or serve. That's a basic law of life. Why do you hesitate, Doctor? Surely it's not loyalty to the Time Lords, who exiled you on one insignificant planet? - You'll never understand, will you? I want to see the universe, not rule it. exchange is one of peak moments for the entire show; the opposing yet fundamentally not contradictory philosophies; the desperation to reach each other; the could have beens and could never bes...
7: one way in which I relate to this character - I too like James Bond movies, but believe they would benefit from Bond wearing more frills and velvets and Blofeld having a beard
8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character - with Delgado, the man eating sofa might have been just the teensiest bit too much? with Three, being chummy with Chairman Mao definitely calls for attention 🙃
9: cinnamon roll or problematic fave? - Delgado is probably the closest the Master ever got to being a cinnamon roll, yes he was absolutely established as a villain, but his ongoing politeness to every being he's about to subjugate to his will deserves proper appreciation :3; the Doctors generally osciallate right in the middle of the cinnamon roll-problematic fave spectrum, with some going really far into the latter and none going very far into the former, that said Three is one of the few who's marginally more on the cinnamon roll side

@skystamp tagged me and it took me a minute, but here are five songs I've listened to recently.
Let Me Down Easy - Daisy Jones and the Six
I watched the show, and it's fine. The ending was lame, but I liked it okay otherwise. Riley Keough and Nabiyah Be were very good. And yes, I listened to the album by this fake band. It's also fine. You might as well just listen to Fleetwood Mac, honestly. But it has some catchy tunes. I generally like the live versions from the show a bit better than the polished "album" versions though.
Waffle House - The Jonas Brothers
I'm still vestigially in Jonas fandom. It was never really about the music for me, I was in it for the fic. And for the codependent brothers. (Except I did love love love the DNCE album. Suck on that, Nick! Joe was secretly the most talented one all along!) But yeah, my favorite albums from my Disney era were Demi's Here We Go Again and Aly and AJ's Insomniatic. So although I still have feelings about the Jonas Brothers, they're not really much about the music. I still listen to their stuff though in the way that you might listen to music put out by someone you went to high school with or used to date or something. This one is fun, but I hate that one line about "headstrong father and a determined mother." It just hits my ear wrong rhythmically.
Fistfight - Ballroom Thieves
I added this one to my steddie playlist a while ago, and I listen to it pretty often. I really like the dirty groove of it, and the soar of the chorus. Love the line: They said love is grabbing blindly at a pit full of snakes/And wait to feel the only heel among the rows of all the venomous teeth and of course the chorus: You were a bright light/You were a fistfight. IDK I think that fits the way I'm writing them.
I'm a Man - Adam Lambert
This is from the covers album Adam put out recently. I don't like the Sex on Fire cover at all, but the rest is good. I think my faves are the Beatles-esque take on Getting Older, a sexy cool I Can't Stand the Rain, and a moody and modern Do You Really Want to Hurt Me that I like way better than the original. And this one, which is from Jobriath. He was an out gay rock musician in the early 70s. He had a big contract and a lot of marketing hype, and then his first album bombed, and he got basically abandoned by the industry and died of AIDS. Anyway, the Jobriath album is pretty much aping Ziggy Stardust/Bowie. Especially vocally. And it has several "space man" songs. But I kind of get more Elton John vibes overall. Jobriath was a pianist, so it's a lot more piano heavy than Bowie and it has these musical theater/showy/operatic tones. Like there's one song Movie Queen that just sounds like vaudeville/cabaret, not really "rock." Aaaanyway, Adam's voice is always A+ and you can tell he relates to this song. It's a great cover.
The One that Got Away - The Civil Wars
I guess Daisy Jones put me in the mood for fraught band relationships and tangled up feelings. This is so pretty and haunting. And I love that complicated dynamic of it was easier when it was just pining, and it was all potential, and it wasn't this hard, real thing.

What are your top 3 albums but from 3 different genres?
What are your top 3 albums but from 3 different genres? If you’re someone who listens to multiple genres, what are your top 3 albums from 3 different genres? My top genres are rock, metal, and pop so i have fave albums from each genre. However, there is a punk album I like more than any metal album so i’ll be putting that. My Top 3: —> Mechanical Animals by Marilyn Manson - Rock (industrial rock, glam rock, electronic rock) —> Crybaby by Melanie Martinez - Pop (alternative pop, electropop, indie pop) —> Insomniac by Green Day - Punk (pop punk, hardcore punk, punk rock) Mechanical Animals is my favourite album of all time from any genreHonourable mentions: Blue Neighbourhood by Troye Sivan (electropop, synthpop), Fashionably Late by Falling In Reverse (metalcore, rock, hiphop), The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars by David Bowie (glam rock, protopunk), Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles (psychedelia), Beyond The Valley of The Murderdolls Special Edition by Murderdolls (metal, rock, punk) Submitted June 15, 2024 at 08:57AM by idontleeknow2017 https://ift.tt/Bq49xc3 via /r/Music

10/31. HAPPY HALLOWEEN. I listened to three of olives records again since I last spoke. Let’s start with the bad 😷. “Not To Disappear” by Daughter. It was a very bland indie alternative record with a breathy lead vocalist 👩‍🎤. Very forgettable 2/10. Next up “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” by David Bowie. First off, he loses points for that long ass title. He thinks he’s Lana or something. This album was lit, it’s a classic! Out of all the records I’ve listened from the 70s (like 3) this might be my fave. My fave songs were Starman, Lady Stardust, and Hang on to Yourself 😛. And yes I’d prob smash David Bowie in his prime. 8/10 album. Lastly, as I’m writing this I’m listening to “The Velvet Underground & Nico” by The Velvet Underground & Nico (creative album title 😂). And to top it off the album looks like it’s called Andy Warhol because Andy put his giant signature on the cover. Anyways, I really liked the first track Sunday Morning and the third track Femme Fatale, but the rest is not resonating with me on first listen. The best way I could describe this album is when you walk into a record store and they’re playing music and it’s not bad but it’s not like you’re gonna ask what the album is. Omg the last song is so bad, they were like “let’s make as much noise as possible and never stfu. I’m not gonna do smash or pass because at least one of them is a racist and I DON’T ROLL THAT WAY. 5/10 album

37, 41 and 44 for the asks please
Hiya lovely! Thanks for asking - here's my answers . . . <3
37. do you read a lot? what's your favourite book?
Errr . . . a bit (not counting fanfiction). Probably not as much as I should. I'd say I get through at least 1 book a month, and a few on holiday. My fave book really has to be one from the Harry Potter series - probably Chamber of Secrets because squidgy little me however many years ago (it's been just over 4 since I finished the series!) loved the excitement of reading a book with murder and mystery. Apart from HP, I love Wuthering Heights by the fabulous Emily Bronte, Hostage by Clare Macintosh and What Katy Did by Sarah Chauncey Woolsey (although it's been a bit since I've read it tbh).
41. top 10 favourite songs
This is sooooo difficult. Starman by David Bowie has always been my favourite, closely followed by Ziggy Stardust. My fave musical artists (because I honestly can't choose my top 10 songs) in no particular order (although DB always comes first):
David Bowie
Eurythmics (I love Annie Lennox's solo stuff aswell)
The Jam (and Paul Weller's solo stuff, I don't mind a bit of the Style Council either).
Depeche Mode
Oasis
The Pet Shop Boys
The Who
The Smiths
INXS
Peter Gabriel
I've probably missed someone siriusly awesome off, and I'll kick myself later, but oh well.
44. what is your biggest fear?
Blood. Needles. Death. Insanity. People. Losing control. The future. The unknown. My impending GCSE. Trendy girls who wear a shit ton of make-up. Losing myself.

thinking about how james uses the term “valuable friend” as a code word to refer to drugs as a reference to “ashes to ashes” like “i have an appointment with a valuable friend” = “i’m going to do drugs” lol

Happy birthday to David Bowie remember that he was a bisexual gnc man who got in a whole load of trouble for wearing a dress on one of his album covers in the 60s and wrote songs and did music videos criticizing Western objectification of East Asian women and Australia’s treatment of the Aboriginal population and was heavily addicted to drugs and alcohol but kicked it and also listened to people pointing out his problematic behavior and apologized and made sure to move on and be a better person from it so if you think that you can get away with saying you love him while being racist, homophobic, not listening to valid criticism, and not acknowledging that he was a deeply flawed individual who worked to be better than his flaws and his demons then you are wrong and can catch these hands
