I feel like we don’t talk enough about Jiang Yanli being disabled. If I remember correctly it was basically a heart disease(?). And this resulting in a lower cultivation than her brothers.

We know she is fiercely protective of her brothers and just like them, she sacrifices herself for them without a second thought. Were WWX builds up this persona of the funny, carefree guy and JC the image of the fierce, no nonsense guy, she is hiding behind a gentleness and politeness. Of course all of them ARE these things they pretend to be but the build it up to the point, were they barely allow themselves to be seen as anything else.

And I think JYL might be kinda killing herself for not being able to help as much as if she wouldn’t be disabled. “She is the oldest after all. She should be a role model to her younger brothers in every way. She should be able to protect THEM. But instead THEY constantly have to protect HER “

In a way she reminds me of Beth March.They share the same ambition and passion for what they love, that their siblings do, but bc of their disabilities and to a degree their need for harmony, they cannot follow this ambition nearly as much as they would like. But in small moments it shines though. When we see Beths excitement for playing on the bigger piano. When we see Jiang Yanli protecting WWX in front of the Jins.

This is just kinda rambles, my own experience with disabilities and not thought out but I just wanted to encourage people to acknowledge JYLs disability AND her fierceness in fics and discussions!!

I love finding little fun facts about the Untamed cast because the actors of the Yunmeng siblings all had other things they did before acting so it's just like:

Yunmeng Jiang is probably the Florida of the Jianghu

Like, they canonically fought water ghouls with their bare hands, regularly get into brawls with each other, have no concept of appropriate volume, hell they have a town down close to the worldly people with no height separation or massive stone walls or a comical amount of gold plating, if you didn’t know that they was a cult of martial sorcerers in that town you might just think “wow, wealthy trading family. The docks are nice!” and then just leave.

The sect leader has no spine and a vaguely homoerotic relationship with his dead best friend slash manservant, he adopted one is fucking insane and also a radical genius, and you’d expect him to be the outlier but no, the sister is just as fucking weird, she’s probably gone around in soaking wet clothes carry a child like a football because “he fell in, I couldn’t just leave him there!”

The son likes to pretend he’s sane but he’s such a chronic gossip that he probably needed an intervention, his sword was named after the three poisons, and he also spent 13 years thinking that his dead adopted brother would find a way to resurrect himself.

Even Madam Yu isn’t safe because she lashed a teenager with a lightning whip like 36 times in the middle of the fucking Spanish Inquisition. She has such an irrational hatred of this one guy that she starts shitting on anyone even remotely kind to him. Girl. Go to therapy, or go to jail.

To understand Jiang Cheng is to understand that he's not the golden child or the scapegoat

Wei Wuxian is both of those

Wei Wuxian is Jiang Fengmian's Golden Child and Madame Yu's Scapegoat

But to both of them Jiang Cheng is simply the Failure

He isn't the son that his father wanted and he's not the son that his mother wanted

He can not live up to either of their wishes or desires because of who he is inherently. He is not charming or naturally exceptionally talented

He is smart and capable but he's not smart and capable enough for them

He puts in pure graft and commitment and gets only looked over or told how little it matters

It's not that he's to blame for anyone else's failures, it's that his accomplishments are meaningless and forgettable just like he is

And if you can't be loved for who you are a part of you wants to be hated because at least that means someone gives a damn

You wear your anger on your skin because it does hurt so much when you are rejected and it makes it harder to forget you

And god how badly you wish to at least be remembered

And you love your sibling who is both on a pedestal but being flogged for the honor

And you want to help and protect them but you also resent them

And they also resent you. At least a little

Because you have time without eyes on you

Time without constant scrutiny over your every action

Which is why the thing that holds the siblings together is the only parent they ever knew who truly loved them unconditionally: Jiang Yanli

jiang yanli defended wei wuxian to anyone who dared to talk shit about him.

wei wuxian would rather say he died of natural causes than let wen ning think jiang cheng killed him.

jiang cheng was ready to make every excuse to the cultivation world for remaining associated with wei wuxian but wei wuxian wasn't going to let him be disgraced on his behalf.

jiang yanli traveled to the burial mounds herself just to give wei wuxian soup and show him her wedding dress.

jiang cheng kept chenqing in perfect condition.

jiang cheng hunted down every cultivator that could possibly be wei wuxian reincarnated but when wei wuxian got reincarnated he just let him go.

jiang yanli loved and protected both jiang cheng and wei wuxian in their broken family, making sure they stood up for each other instead of standing against each other.

jiang cheng would rather sacrifice his dogs and his golden than have to live without wei wuxian.

wei wuxian feels like he owes jiang cheng and jiang yanli his life, but they never wanted his life, they just wanted him.
