listen. hear me out. shadow not being able to talk properly and just mispronouncing/mumbling EVERYTHING when gerald first created them. i'm talking toddler/infant speaking level despite being like. above six years old when they first came out of that tube.

the adults who didn't like shadow using this as an excuse to ignore whatever the hedgehog has to say under the pretense of 'not being able to understand them', and not listening when shadow says they're hungry or that an experiment hurts.

maria teaching shadow how to speak and pronounce things right - it takes them a while, but eventually, shadow is the most well-spoken being on that ARK.

the adults hating maria for this because now they actually have to listen to what shadow has to say now because they can longer dismiss them due to them being unintelligible. they actually have to listen when shadow says 'that hurts!' or 'i want professor robotnik.' or 'i need water.'

and if they don't - well, shadow tells everything to maria, and maria brings up every little issue regarding shadow up to gerald, the lead scientist, who does everything to make sure maria is happy - which means making sure shadow is happy.

Maddie: Miles 'Tails' Prower Wachowski, if you don't finish that pork chop, I swear I will chew it up and spit it in your mouth like a mama bird! Sonic: Do it, Mom. Do it! Tom: Maddie, can I speak to you for a second? Maddie: No! Enough is enough. The boy has got to eat. Tom: Just give me a minute. Maddie [gets up reluctantly. Points at Tails]: Start eating, mister! I'm really looking forward to Sonic 4 and the interactions that the movie will bring. But I'm not just talking about Sonamy, but all four of these colorful kids together. Knuckles and Tails will tease Sonic for having a crush, but I also want to see them mess with Amy. I want to see Amy and Tails bond over a shared love of technology and unconditional acceptance. Amy and Knuckles having an amazing sparring partner and the same sense of protectiveness. Knuckles and Tails protecting Amy as much as Sonic would because she's not just the girl their brother likes, but because she's their new sister. I want Amy to look out for them not just because they're Sonic's siblings, but because they're her siblings now too. Her cool big brother and smart young brother. A family she never had and now is here and she'll fight for.

I want to see the Amy-Tails-Knuckles siblinghood so bad!

(And if I have the odds in my favor, Amy-Shadow siblinghood because they're siblings, I know it! Amy reminds him of Maria, except he's the older brother now!)
