When I was five, I overheard my friends' friend Tamara telling them that she was moving to Poland and that there wouldn't be school over there.

She obviously meant that the summer vacation would be ongoing but my idiotic self jumped to Poland having no schools at all, making me want to move there myself.

Two years later, I was working on an assignment related to the Warsaw Basilisk and I wanted to check where Warsaw was as it was the first time I'd heard the name.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I found out that Poland was a regular country like mine and not a wonderland where schools weren't a thing.

Do i think that the LOA has technology in it? Absolutely I do. LED lights but in 3000k warm white instead of the jarring bright sterile white, if they've got glass windows they're those solar panel glass panes my college natural science building uses that detects sunlight position, which in term controls the lights, which in turn saves energy. Amber lights for outside, solar panels. Just. anything environmentally sound and friendly, they've got it, they use it.

Do i think they've got computers and tvs lying around for casual recreational use? ....that i'm not so sure about. For this au? I'm gonna say nooooottt really. That stuff is typically reserved for like, mission planning, debriefing, research, etc. Frankly danny probably does know how to use a computer, however i thought it was funny if he didn't. so the meme is staying in lmao.

If they're not training, they've probably like, got a greenhouse or two somewhere on base they can help with. The LoA's whole thing is balance, harmony, restoring the natural world with extreme environmentalism. All that jazz. Probably plenty of ponds, recreational areas outside, gardens, just, stuff to do that's not technology based. My most basic understanding is that these people are the world's deadliest hippies. They can't be training all the time, that's neither good for morale nor for their bodies, so when they're not training... they're off doing shit. If Ras has kept this thing running for thousands of years then it’s gotta be pretty lit enough that nobody’s revolted lmao.

Maybe Dean is uncomfortable with (from his perspective with what he just walked in on) one of his grown ass brother’s favorite memories appearing to be a little girl grabbing his grown ass man thigh under a dinner table in front of her parents. You think they ever considered that angle? Or did they perhaps. Not remember the scene. At all.

[Context being: Someone is very upset at Dean saying "Wait, so… playing footsie with brace-face in there? Then that’s a trophy moment for you?" to Sam when they first encounter each other in heaven in 5.16 "Dark Side of the Moon". Commenters appear to have absolutely zero clue (1) when in the episode this happens (at the beginning before any animosity over memories has had a chance to develop) (2) what happened right before said dialogue. Commenters jump to suggest that Dean "sexualizes" an innocent family meal by talking about "playing footsie" in order to *looks at notes* undermine Sam's desire for normality and a bunch of other nonsense that makes no sense at all if you care about the order in which things actually happen/are said in the episode and realize that Dean is not in fact psychically aware of what Sam is thinking and his feelings about Thanksgiving and walked in on him reliving a child young enough to be in braces touching his grown ass man thigh i.e. "playing footsie" with him more or less.]

"that's what I like about you, the domestic approach" immediately followed in the next episode by "i'd have to settle down. get a house or something" / "i'd have to get one, too. we could share"..... you just. you really get a sense that ten is changing his mind. that rose is different than anyone else. the way he adamantly denies when rose says she's going to die in battle. as if it isn't a Rose Tyler Classic to continuously charge in head first into danger to do the right thing, even and especially against her own well being. as if Believing In Her really will be enough to save her every time.........

Oh man, I was sick of the 'make Colin grovel/beg/suffer' nonsense all the way back in SEASON 2!!!!! It's a shame it continues to be all too prominent of a theme in Polin in general. (honestly, this is why I stopped reading and writing fics) but whoever the person who made that rant is, I wanna be friends with them! I feel like a lot of Colin fans have been outspoken about how unfairly he's treated in what should be his fandom, but because we're a minority in the fandom, we get pushed out by polin fans who just. . .don't like him? (Why they gravitate to this ship I will NEVER know) And the people talking about how 'Oh, they're not *really* Polin fans, they're Pen stans!' like. . .they're still the ones that went on Polin fics (including my own?) and talked about how Colin didn't deserve her? They still wrote so called 'Polin' fics with no pushback at all of Penelope abusing him and it being totally fine? They were all too happy to see Colin pushed to the wayside time and time again? Can't lay down with dogs and be surprised you have fleas in the morning, you know?

Like it's genuinely no surprise to me that Pen stans who hated Colin but still shipped Polin for the sake of Pen getting her prize became Nicola stans who hate Luke because they're mad that they didn't get together.

I miss the Polin that were *both* ride or die for each other in fandom. Since S2 I feel like it's just Pen being an OOC girlboss queen and Colin being her footstool in way too much of this fanbase. God forbid he have any emotion other than full fawning over her. smh

I think we go through cycles in the fandom. Maybe we're in a new era of people recognizing how toxic Polin is/was/can be and people are calling out how weird it is that the fanbase seemingly hates half the ship. But idk, I feel like this is just another person who will be pushed off to the side because though what they said was true, people just don't wanna hear it. I will always ALWAYS stand by the fact that people can write whatever they want and deserve respect in fandom. I avoid any of those fics because I try not to say negative things to or about creators. But sometimes I so badly want to be like 'if you read this from his perspective, is it a love story, or is it a tragedy?' and like. . .most of the time, from his POV in these stories, it's a tragedy. And there's really not a lot of variety (most of the stories that countered the typical 'colin begs and suffers and grovels and is called an idiot' narrative have left) so it's all there is. And you just can't help but come to the conclusion that this fandom just. . .doesn't like him.

Which sucks, he's fantastic. Polin deserves love stories where they're both treated well.

This is not news, and I did suspect I'd feel this way, but Chip Zdarsky's Batman: The Knight is wonderful so far and pulling on all the vibes I want to see in a world-travel prequel, as Zdarsky's mined them out of a lot of the same places I also saw potential narratives.
