#I'd rather not clutter the caption so I'll ramble a little in the tags #HitW is short but special to me as it represents and encapsulates some hard life experiences I was going through at the time of its creatio #Ofc in a more metaphorical manner! but. I have been very much enjoying reading people's comments and speculation as its been posting #the interpretations are so meaningful and varied and i love that and really want to encourage anyone to reflect on what it means to them #for me making this comic was a way to process and move past trauma. i feel like it ends anti-climactically but i wanted to be true to #where i thought things were actually going in my life moreso than to veer towards impact. ultimately im glad i managed to finish it #and for it to finish going public right before the new year? maybe i can see this as shedding that old pain in time to become something new #so thank you for reading for supporting and for still being here. lets wake up to 2025 with wind in our sails #Home in the Woods #my art #my comics #original comic #cw guns #cw blood #cw body horror

I Saw the TV Glow is such a uniquely, devastatingly queer story. Two queer kids trapped in suburbia. Both of them sensing something isn’t quite right with their lives. Both of them knowing that wrongness could kill them. One of them getting out, trying on new names, new places, new ways of being. Trying to claw her way to fully understanding herself, trying to grasp the true reality of her existence. Succeeding. Going back to help the other, to try so desperately to rescue an old friend, to show the path forward. Being called crazy. Because, to someone who hasn’t gotten out, even trying seems crazy. Feels crazy. Looks, on the surface, like dying.

And to have that other queer kid be so terrified of the internal revolution that is accepting himself that he inadvertently stays buried. Stays in a situation that will suffocate him. Choke the life out of him. Choke the joy out of him. Have him so terrified of possibly being crazy that he, instead, lives with a repression so extreme, it quite literally is killing him. And still, still, he apologizes for it. Apologizes over and over and over, to people who don’t see him. Who never have. Who never will. Because it’s better than being crazy. Because it’s safer than digging his way out. Killing the image everyone sees to rise again as something free and true and authentic. My god. My god, this movie. It shattered me.

ppl are too quick to point to laios' disability as the reason his friends think he's a freak sometimes. so many instances of laios getting yelled at are, in my eyes, a case of "this guy had to emotionally mature very early in order to be there for his little sister" combined with "much older friends who never had to learn to manage their own emotions to the same degree"

a lot of the time he's right about needing to be more direct/deal with things in a way that may seem scary/needing to put your gut reaction aside. he tries not to make his friends uncomfortable and he puts up with a lot because he's trying to keep the peace, but he also pushes the others out of their comfort zones purposefully to try to get them to think more constructively. everyone else in the party is prone to acting on their gut instincts and avoiding uncomfortable situations even when facing them head-on is very much necessary. part of what makes laios such a great leader is the fact that he knows from experience how to put his own feelings aside to help someone else grow.

yes, he does make a lot of social blunders by accident and he does struggle to connect with others, but not all of his positive influence on others is accidental or "despite" making people uncomfortable. a lot of the time, I think it's clear he knows exactly what he's doing and he's trying to help the people around him process emotions in a healthy way as they all go through some truly harrowing shit. all the main characters support each other as well as they can with their unique emotional skillsets. laios' skillset just happens to be "gently talk child into eating her vegetables"

#deerchatter #dungeon meshi #laios touden #of course this IS also connected to his disability. bc having an iron grip on your own emotional reaction is often needed to survive #in an ableist society. and he wouldn't have had to parent falin so much if the two of them hadn't been ostracized growing up #but the point of the post is that laios is a lot more emotionally intelligent than his party (or many fans) realizes #he's not just stumbling ass-first into being helpful he is clearly applying a skillset that is direly lacking in his friends #marcille and chilchuck in particular haaaaate uncomfy situations and are under the impression that if smth Feels bad then it Is bad.#and senshi avoids so many situations and feelings because of his trauma that he's been unable to grow past it on his own #this post was particularly inspired by the griffin meat scene. everyone else suggests senshi just avoid his trauma forever #and they're absolutely shocked when laios suggests senshi try to grow and overcome his pain bc. That Sounds Scary. lol #so many of the story's themes revolve around overcoming your own impulses and biases #and laios is uniquely suited to leading that change.#r.i.p. laios/toshiro friendship you guys have so much more in common than you realize

Forreal?''#(Meanwhile Robin is sweating bullets like ''I called his favorite vegetable a FRUIT right in his FACE he's going to KILL ME'')#Robin grew extra feet from the bottom of her feet to reach the counter and that actually isn't me trying to explain bad art away #In the original Papadile comic there was a panel of Robin doing the dishes with extra feet to reach the sink but I cut it out #(It was a stress relief comic I did not feel like drawing a complicated background in detail) (BUT YES I THOUGHT OF IT)#Nico Robin Age 11 is *more* than capable of cooking Crocodile just does not trust her with his food. At least not yet #She did start doing the dishes unprompted and continues to do so (mostly out of fear). Croc told her she didn't have to but allows it #IDK a lot of people seem to headcanon Crocodile as incapable of cooking and like. Surely Mr ''I don't trust people'' knows how to cook #Like he doesn't have to be a master chef or anything but and maybe he enjoys not HAVING to cook (pain in the ass with one hand + knife/hook #But surely he can cook decent enough. Just remember this idea I had for a fic where Steve’s dad worked in marketing and made jiggles for commercials so they had a full music studio in their house.

The local music store had a section where local artists can sell cassettes. It’s mostly poorly recorded country music from The Hideout’s open mic night, but Corroded Coffin is there too. Eddie practically stalks the shelf to see if anyone buys their music. No one ever does (except for Gareth’s mom).

Then one day, Eddie goes into the shop after work to see if any of CC’s stock is gone, and sees a new tape there. No artist name. No song titles. Just a slip of paper stuck into the case with a hand drawn rose on it.

Eddie buys it and even though it’s not his typical type of music, falls absolutely in love with the voice on the tape. He loves the music. The production quality. The way sadness seeps into every corner of side A and B.

He goes back to the record shop and asks who left the tape, but the employee has no idea. They think someone just stuck it there without permission and have no idea who they’re supposed to pay for the sale.

Two more tapes show up over the next month with a different drawn flower on it, each sadder than the last. The artist is clearly going through something. Eddie still has no idea who they are and is now stalking the shelf not just to see if his own music is selling (it’s not).

He’s in full investigation mode and it’s annoying all of his friends. He needs to know who this person is because he’s a little in love with them and also a little worried about them. It’s really sad music.

Meanwhile, Steve is just trying to process the end of his relationship with Nancy in the only way he can think of.

#if anyone likes this and wants to write you have full permission #Steve doesn’t want to keep the music because it feels like he’s keeping the pain #but he doesn’t want to throw it in the trash because that feels wrong so he sticks it on the shelf and forgets about it #Meanwhile Eddie is going insane because who in Hawkins can produce music of this quality and also has a voice of an Angel #and is just keeping that to themselves??!?#also for me Steve is playing every instrument on the track #steve harrington #eddie munson #steddie #stranger things
