more loustat x chill/unbothered/oblivious fem reader PLEASE!!
maybe she's like been a part of their relationship for a while, and she like the fledgling of some other vampire, her and her maker were like chill and totally platonic he dipped at some point before she met loustat, and she like the sane one between them and unfortunately gets ignored/left out unfortunately
something like the scene from season 1 where Louis swims across the Mississippi river to get to Lestat, and like reader is there too cause she went w Louis and loustat being there dramatic selves while she's just like trying to talk it out like adults, and then it spirals into argument about her wanting to visit her maker because Lestat, and tbh Louis too, is petty like that
Also your iwtv fics are my life line omg!!đ
L'amour De Ma Vie | Lestat x Reader x Louis
à· while you love your companions, it is no secret that they oftentimes exclude you, and it isn't until you leave that they go into panic mode.
I love this idea, I hope you don't mind me changing it a little bit đ©·
âLouis, Y/n, youâre both soaking wet,â Lestat sat up from the bed.
Glancing at Louis, you could tell he was seconds away from slapping the smirk from Lestatâs face. The woman, Antoinette, wrapped one of the many sheets around her body, awkwardly staring at the two of you.
âLeave,â he told her, and just like that, she was up, running out of the bedroom.
âWhat are you two doing here?â
âLooking for you, and weâŠfound you,â you answered. Louis remained silent, staring at Lestat, his mind all over the place from his companion's betrayal.
You understood where he was coming from, but at the same time, you didn't. Your maker, Lucius, lives a polyamorous lifestyle. From the moment he turned you, becoming his daughter, you saw the plethora of women and men come and go. Eternity was too long for him to stay with one person, he'd jokingly say, leaving a trail of broken hearts.
âYou put your lover on the song, and expect us to come running back to you,â Louis screamed at him.
âI wanted a clear voice, to get the-
âI donât give a fuck,â Louis interrupted.
âLouis, we agreed that we would just talk it out,â you told him, watching as he was fuming, but he ignored your words.
âYou two swam to Mississippi to find me,â Lestat kept the same expression, eyeing the both of you lustfully.
âI swim faster than I drive,â Louis said, his fangs coming out.
âWe donât have to fight like this, we can find a middle ground-
âNo, why are you acting unbothered by him stepping out on both of us?â Louis asked.
âIâm not, polyamory isnât a deal breaker for me, so I feel like-
âHe cheated Y/n, whatever bullshit you were exposed to by your maker, doesnât apply in this relationship,â he told you, catching you off guard.
âThat isnât what Iâm saying, we came here because of the song but also because weâve agreed to make things workâ
âSo why are you acting like youâre on his side?â
âLouis, what are you talking about? Just because Iâm not as angry as you, doesnât mean I am against you, Lucius has always said anger is-
âDo you always have to bring him up?â Lestat asked a slight frown in place.
âLucius, Lucius, Lucius, are you with us, or Lucius?â He raised his voice. Furrowing your eyebrows, you were extremely confused, about how the conversation went from Lestatâs infidelity to your relationship with your maker.
âIâm beginning to question the same thing,â you said, backing away.
âY/n, Iâm sorry,â Louis shook his head, mentally criticizing himself for his choice of words.
âItâs okay,â you smiled at him, before leaving, due to your small age difference in your makers, you were faster than Louis, going back home.
You hated this feeling, this emotion, how your mind made you think of things that never bothered you too much before, but now did. From the moment you joined their companionship, you were constantly unintentionally excluded. Even in public, you cringed at times you were assumed to be nothing more than a friend of the two.
Entering the home you had grown to love, you went upstairs, packing some clothing in a bag. You were thankful that Claudia was out hunting, knowing your departure wouldnât be so smooth if sheâd been home. Leaving the bedroom, the family portrait caught your eye, making you pout.
Claudia sat on the sofa, while you, stood next to Louis and Lestat, who leaned against the sofa. You had been hesitant to take the photos, but they all insisted. As the photographer went to snap the photo, Lestat glanced at you.
âCome closer,â he said, pulling you between him and Louis.
His hand on your waist, while Louis held your hand, you all looked like a happy family.
Wiping the tear from your eye, you thought of how despite the occasional exclusion, they did so much more that made you overlook the habit. Maybe you could just get away for a little while, before coming back home.
Glamouring your way from state to state, for well over 24 hours, before you arrived in Los Angeles. Lucius fit into the bright city where stars and beauty resided. As you drained the shipment driver, you felt your blood pumping, an adrenaline rush of excitement coursing through your veins. Lifting from the man, you looked around, sensing the familiar presence near.
âI knew it was you I was sensing,â you heard, smiling brightly, you climbed out of the truck, running into Lucius' arms. His expensive scent filled your nose, as you wiped your mouth.
âWhat are you wearing, my love, is this what they wear down in New Orleans?â he asked, staring at your outfit. Beige trousers, along with a light pink blouse, he shook his head in disapproval. He considered himself to have impeccable taste in clothing, but he also was old-fashioned in some ways.
âI couldn't have traveled practically in a dress,â you said.
âI am more than glad that you are here, but why so sudden? I mean, no letter or postcardâ
âI just wanted to get away from home for a whileâ
âThose two aren't treating you right? They are easily replaceable, what have I always told you, an eternity is-
âtoo long to be stuck with the same person, and I should always explore my taste, I know, and Louis and Lestat are fine, I just wanted to get away, I was hoping I could stay with you, for some time, if that's alrightâ
âOf course, you are always welcome,â he said, walking you to his car.
He didn't live too far away, in an expensive neighborhood, his villa home, the most extravagant. Stepping out, you immediately noticed the woman, peaking from the window.
âYou have company?â
âYes, Sonya, she wants to be an actorâ
âYou said that weirdly, is she special, maybe a potential companion?â you asked him, grinning.
âShe has very sweet blood and an equally cute face, so I keep her aroundâ
âYou were just talking about me being with the same people-
âMy love, this is different, she has grown on me, yes, but I think we both know Iâll eventually crave something new,â he smirked, as he wrapped his arm around you, leading you into the house.
âShameless,â you laughed.
âIt's true, and the best part of all, when the sex is wonderful they always come running back, come on, I have an extra coffin, you can sleep inâ
âI went all the way to Metairie, and nothing, what about you?â Louis announced, walking back into the house. Pacing the floor, while Lestat sat at the piano, staring off into space.
âWhy is he back here, I thought we werenât talking to him right now? And whereâs Y/n?â Claudia asked.
âNot now Clau-
âSheâs gone, she took some clothes and left,â Lestat finally spoke.
âShe canât be too far, we can still find her and-
âIâve been all over Mississippi, searching, nothing, not a trace, I canât think of where she could be and Iâm not her m-â Stopping in his speech, he put his head down, clenching his jaw. His leg shook lightly, trying to contain his anger.
âWhat is it?â Louis asked as he and Claudia stared confusedly at him.
âSheâs with her maker,â he managed to get out.
His eyes reddened as he grew angrier, Lestat couldnât help that he was inherently jealous, unrighteously possessive, especially towards those he loved, and that was very few. You were the most relaxed, forgiving vampire he'd ever met. Extremely oblivious and doting, you'd brag to whoever would listen about how great he was.
While he and Louis held all of the attention, he could hear you bragging to some mortal how well-dressed Louis was, or how Lestat was the greatest musician to grace your ears. You would go on and on, stroking their egos, willingly accepting and loving their baggage Claudia, you were a precious gem, adored by them both.
Your personality was much calmer than theirs, while they regularly clashed, you'd be bringing up calming methods, or ignoring them, chatting with Claudia.
âYou have the power over your anger, Lucius was once a cruel angry vampire until he realized it was pointless, if the situation can be fixed, then do it, but if not, leave it in the past,â you'd quote.
Lucius, Lestat hated the man greatly, despite never coming across him before. Suppose his hate began from the respect you held for the man. He was around the same age as Lestat, from Italy, and was very handsome, he'd heard you say before.
He wished he could undo time so that he could become your maker. His blood in your veins, your heart in sync with his own, his fully, bound by more than your vow of companionship. While Louis only hated the man for the weird lifestyle habits he passed along to you, Lestat loathed the idea of another being nearly as perfect as he was to you.
âLucius speaks French too, although he's more fluent in Italianâ
âLucius is also into fashion, he used to dress me all the timeâ
âLucius was once a part of an opera, but he ended up causing a bit of drama because he slept with nearly everyone who worked thereâ
âLuciusâŠâ
âLuciusâŠâ
Lestat sat frozen seething at the thought of the man. He wanted nothing more than to kill him for making his way into your heart, he couldn't care less about the kind of relationship you'd shared with him.
âUncle Les,â Claudia called out, exchanging a look with Louis.
âWe can still get her to come home, he has sent her mail before,â looking around, he sent to the pile of mail, looking through and seeing the ripped-open envelope.
âLos Angeles, she's in Los Angeles, we can find her,â Louis approached Lestat, showing him the mail.
âShe's gone, she's gone back to him and left us,â Lestat mumbled to himself, already crying.
âHey, weâre gonna find her and she'll hear out, sheâll come back home,â Louis told Lestat, also trying to convince himself, as tears dropped from his eyes.
âIâm going to bed,â Lestat sulked.
âSo you can cry all night? Do you want Y/n to come back or not, I sure as hell got used to some peace around here, we have the address, we can easily find a way out there, stop being so dramatic,â Claudia screamed at him.
âI preferred her quiet,â he said, sniffling.
âWe can get her back home, you know how she is, she'll want to talk it out before we're back on the roadâ
âThe insufferable therapy sessions,â he chimed in, as he wiped his eyes.
âExactly, we can start planning right now,â Louis said, his companion nodded in agreement.
âHow much do I need to pack?â Claudia asked.
âWhat makes you think you could come?â Lestat asked her, crossing his legs.
âBecause I care about Y/n tooâ
âWe won't be gone for long Claudia, we're just trying to get her to come back home,â Louis said to her, watching as she stepped away.
âIf Y/n was here, she would not be okay with you just leaving me here,â she said, stomping upstairs.
âWhere should we start?â
âWhy donât you turn Sonya? Itâs so obvious that you care about her?â You asked Lucius as you danced to the classical record, in the considerably large living room. Wearing the custom gown he'd gifted you, both of your mouths were covered in blood from the guest of the orgy he'd hosted.
It had been nearly a week of spending time with him, and you were enjoying every moment of the easygoing, carefree life.
âNone of this music is as good as it once was, going to see Paganini, I had never heard an instrument played so beautifully,â he shook his head, ignoring your question.
âLucius,â you called his name knowingly, forcing him to look at you.
âI can't turn her, IâŠI love her,â he admitted, dipping you.
âIf you love her, you'd turn her, and you both can have eternity together,â you told him, but he smiled, his hand brushing against your cheek.
âIf I love her, then I'll let her live, have children of her own, and pass on as a pretty little elderly woman,â he said.
âVery noble of you,â you joked.
âI guess, but Iâll hold on until that time comes, I have another two years, and sheâll be twenty-sevenâ
âAw, Lucius, are you sure you don't want me to do it?â you asked, as he continued to dance.
âLove looks different for everyone, my love, you, of all people, understand that,â he chuckled.
âI guess you're rightâ
âI suppose that is why your lovers are about to burst into my home,â he said with a smile, as he held you close.
âYeah, probably, wait, wh-
Just then, the front door burst open, Lestat and Louis storming it, although, they had different targets, rushing over. Louis stood in front of you, pulling you away, into his arms, already pleading that you forgive him for how he spoke and his recent habit of exclusion.
While Lestat instantly had Lucius against the wall, his hand to his throat. Your maker only laughed, you truly learned well, both of these men wrapped completely around your finger, and you didn't even realize it.
âLestat, don't,â you told him, hearing his chaotic thoughts, he wanted Lucius dead.
âYou leave without a word, in the middle of the night. Countless arguments, and the moment he comes up, you up and leave me, leave us,â he screamed.
âWe can talk about it, but I need you to let him go, I don't want to see you two fighting, so please, just release him,â you said, exhaling a breath of air, as he let go, growling at Lucius, who nonchalantly walked to you.
âYou've done so well, my love, they're like your two little dogs,â he laughed, turning off the music.
âLucius,â you warned lightly, as he pulled you close to whisper into your ear.
âIâll give you a bit of privacy, I presume you won't be here when am back, I want you to reach out more often, it has been fun since you've been back homeâ
âI will,â you nodded.
âWonderful, I love youâ
âI love you too,â you said, watching as he went outside, flying into the air in an instant.
âWhat are you two doing here?â you asked them, wiping your mouth.
âWhat are we doing here? Did you forget that you have companions, or did you not care?â Lestat asked angrily.
âYou up and left, you didn't even leave a note,â Louis said.
âDid you not care when you were in Mississippi, did you care when you brought up upbringing as if it was an insult?â the words shut them up, the guilt evident, in their eyes.
âDo you love him more, you went back to your maker because you want him more, we haven't been enough for you,â Lestat spoke.
âI'm sorry for what I said to you, I was angry and I misdirected my anger and I didn't mean to do that, especially to you,â Louis apologized.
âApologizing is pointless, you love him more than any of us, I just need to hear you say it, perhaps that will give me the closure I need, say Lestat, I never loved you-
Bursting out laughing, you covered your mouth, waving your hand apologetically at the two.
âI'm sorry, but you two are drama queens,â you laughed.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âI didn't even take all of my clothes, or my coffin if I was leaving, I would be taking that because itâs custom,â you told them.
âWhy didn't you say that in a letter?â Louis asked you.
âBecause I thought about leaving for good, but then I considered how much I love you both, yes, I am oftentimes left out, but when I'm not, I feel like I'm on top of the world, and as you said, we have gotten into countless of arguments, why would I just because you brought up Lucius?â
âYou're always bringing him up, comparing-
âIâm not comparing the two of you, you have a few things in common, it has only been a handful of times, but you only like the attention on you, you get so jealous at the thought of me talking about another man,â you laughed.
âDon't be ridiculous, and he's not nearly as good-looking as me,â he said.
âSee, I never compared your looks, I know who looks better, Lucius doesn't come closeâ
âYou too, Louis, jealous, worried that I wouldn't think that our relationship is enough and Iâd go back to Lucius to practice his lifestyle, it's cute really, you both came scrambling out here, to win me back, I am touched and a few other things,â you continued as they approached you.
Immediately, Lestat was kissing your lips, holding you close, scared to let you slip away. Pushing away from him, you pulled Louis near, slipping your tongue into his mouth. Lestat stood behind you, kissing your neck, and tearing the dress.
âWhereâs Claudia?â you asked through your moans, as each article of clothing was peeled away. Stopping, the two slowly stared at each other, before looking at you.
âSheâs in New Orleansâ
âYou left her in New Orleans, by herself? We need to leave now, why would you do that?â you yelled, going to pack your things.
âWait, can we finish what we started?â Louis asked his hand over the painfully stiff sensation between his legs.
âNo, we need to get back to herâ
âI hate when the brat is rightâ

This whole scene is obviously genius and I love every moment from them, but there's something about the look on Lestat's face and the way he/Sam says "You swam the Mississippi to find me?"
It's a face of unparalleled delight, anon, he is there twirling his hair and kicking his feet knowing what he should've known all along - gifts and grand gestures won't move Louis, but pissing him off sure will, and lucky for both of them, Lestat is literally the prince of bratting.

Now I have to ask: top 5 Lestat looking at Louis
Haha, ok, soooo....
This look that Louis didn't see (but probably could feel...) - one is inclined to say "down boy", ahem)
And this, of course, where that hunger is back (if it was ever gone), plainly.
Then of course this - telling Louis exactly what he means to Lestat...
I have two centuries walked this Earth and can report, you have no twin. No one as angry, as stubborn, as unaccommodating, as maddening... [] As loving, as dedicated, as thoughtful, as imperfectly perfect as you've become. You're a challenge every sunset, Saint Louis, and I'd have it no other way.
This one. Almost defiant in its simplicity, but laden with gravity. Not an easy one, this one, but then they were in a very difficult phase of their relationships (obviously). And I don't think it was insincere btw, despite the fact that they were already playing the bigger game there.
And ... "you swam the Mississippi to find me". Because. Honestly. Sheer disbelief mixed with relief. See that twitch at the corners of his mouth?? The breath?
Also, because I cheated on the other one, too.... :))
Just... he's just gone.
Fatally in love.

Fair warning this is going to be a mess and my brain is running on fumes so... bear with me lol.
I'm thinking about Louis not uttering Lestat's name for 23 years until he starts unloading on a stranger trying to convince himself Lestat was nothing to him. He wasn't in LOVE what are you TALKING about. He wasn't a great musician who wrote me love songs so infuriatingly perfect I swam the Mississippi to bite him like a cat and fuck him on the floor! Lestat wasn't that great at all I promise look at me, Daniel, do I look like the sort of guy who would lie about something like that!!!
I'm thinking about how what Louis was doing here wasn't actually that at all. Armand read him for filth because he's always known who the real love of Louis' life is, hasn't he? And Louis couldn't bear it anymore. He couldn't find Lestat (which begs the question WHY they were separated after Paris if Louis knows he isn't dead at this point but I guess the show will tell us that in the upcoming episodes lol), and this was going to be his way out. Had he been searching for him in secret? Did Armand know? I'm thinking prooooobably not but I guess we'll have to see what happens in Paris and in the final three episodes to be sure why Louis was so INSISTENT he didn't want to see Lestat even while very obviously trying to do just that. I assume it has to do with the events surrounding The Trial???? A desperate attempt to protect Lestat (wherever he may be) from Armand? Who knows!
I'm thinking about Louis insisting all he did was talk trash about Lestat and Armand immediately answering... that's not exactly how you talked about him to me. Yet Armand says Lestat's name hasn't been uttered in 23 years. Which would have been around 1950 in the timeline. Right after Paris. So clearly we're meant to understand Louis confided something about the true nature of his relationship with Lestat to Armand. Yet Louis insisted right there in that coffin that Lestat was his maker and nothing more. Again, I guess we'll just have to wait for the end of the season to see how we're meant to piece that whole thing together lol.
I'm thinking about the way the show let us hear Lestat's voice as he spoke to Louis through Armand. They let US hear Lestat insisting Armand tell Louis "I love you". Yet that's not something Louis could possibly remember because he didn't hear it. Which seems confusing but it's actually confirming this theory I've had brewing in my head that the show intentionally shows us things Louis isn't actually saying in the interview. Like making out with Dreamstat in the park. If you rewatch 2x03 there's no way Louis actually told Daniel and Armand about that. Or in this case, it's the show showing us something Louis can't possibly know himself.
And I'm thinking... why? The only real reason to do that is to drive home that what we're watching is in fact the Louis and Lestat love story at its core. I mean... think about it. Every iteration we've seen of Lestat this season has been so ROMANTIC. They were so in LOVE. All the stuff Louis tried his best to omit in season one is leaking in around the cracks like sunlight through the slats of a window shade and it's only a matter of time before that shade is opened...
Also. One more thing. Not to dump allll of this in one post but....... we finally got confirmation in this episode that Armand IS messing with Louis' head and erasing things and overwriting memories and I am foaming at the mouth waiting to see what else is in there Louis doesn't know about...
#i told you all this was going to be an entire mess lmao#i'm mostly just thinking out loud here...#i probably have lots more to say but that will have to happen later it's so early and i'm so tired lmao#interview with the vampire#interview with the vampire spoilers#loustat#otp: all my love belongs to you#iwtvedit#iwtv meta#i guess lol

IWTV Episode 6 Podcast Transcript
Special Guests: Levan Akin and Jewelle Gomez
"Lestat made him [Louis] a vampire. He became in a way his everything. He became isolated from his family and his friends. He has nothing. Itâs classic abusive, toxic. Heâs isolated Louis." -Levan Akin
âRecording a song with your side piece is not an apologyâ
Naomi: First, in this episode, thereâs a heated discussion of whether Emily Dickinson was a vampire. What other historical figures do you think couldâve been vampires?Â
Levan: Good question.. I would say Tesla. He could be a vampire⊠I donât know maybe Iâm just thinking about was it David Bowie who played him in a movie. Maybe I just got that image in my head⊠I donât know what do you think?Â
N: Iâm not used to having the tables turned on me⊠Bowie and Iman.Â
L: And also Grace Jones.Â
N: Can you tell me when you first discovered Anne Rice?
L: Iâd heard about her and then I saw the film I think when I was 14.Â
N: Wow, formative.Â
L: I remember that screening very well. I loved vampires and I saw that film. I was a little gay kid and there was a lot of subtext I could pick up. And then I went to the school library and found The Vampire Lestat so that was the first book I read and that was a gamechanger for me. I was obsessedâŠÂ
N: Do you remember your parents having a reaction to you reading these books?
L: The thing is they didnât really get it. My parents are from Georgia, former Soviet Republic. They had no idea about pop culture or anything.Â
N: Youâre live with us from Sweden. Correct me if Iâm wrong but IWTV is the first time youâre directing a US TV series?
L: Yes.
N: Tell me everything, how does it happen? How are you out here working in Sweden and like get me on the AR show?Â
L: I did a film called and then we danced, and that opened some doors. I got agents. I read from an AR fan I follow on facebook and heard they were doing a series and I told my agents, get me on that show. And then finally I met Rolin Jones and luckily Rolin thought why not give this guy a try. Heâs a risk taker.Â
âŠ
L: I also got to do the scene where Louis meets Molloy in San Francisco. I canât believe it.Â
N: You directed ep 5 and 6 which are the most tumultuous episodes in the show and the most tumultuous time in their relationship. What is the core of the conflict, how would you describe it?Â
L: You know those two episodes, its essentially the darkest days. Everything comes to the end. When I was reading ep 5 I was thinking, how does Lestat ever come back from this? And then I started reading ep6, and how he slowly tears Louis down and talks his way back into their lives. And I thought it was brilliant but also you know frightening. I always tried to approach the material with like whatâs the reality of this situation? You know it is a toxic relationship. It was interesting approaching these scenes as an adult, having read these books as a kid.Â
N: When you read these romances, its like I want someone to love me that much. And then when youâre an adult, youâre like this is sick this is twisted. We have to have boundaries.Â
L: Yes, of course.Â
N: You see the relationship change, for all the fantasy of it, the emotions are real, regardless of the time. How we stay in the truth of what the feelings are. As you said this is a tumultuous time, the darkest of days and we see Lestat begging for forgiveness over the course of years and trying to win Louis back. And he has a messed up way of apologizing. Can we talk a little about as a director, getting into the mindset? When youâre talking to Jacob and Sam, do you get them in the mindset of okay its been 6 years, you swam the Mississippi, bring me that energy.Â
L: Yeah, again how do you find the truth in that scene. Its at its core.. Lovers reuniting but also thereâs so much frustration coming from Louis in that scene. Heâs been having this stalker slowly nudging his way into his wife. I remember talking to Jacob about it over lunch, it feels as if that scene also heâs had enough. He knows heâs never going to be free of Lestat. He might as well relent. Its very sad later in the episode he says what difference does it make.Â
N: I want Louis to realize he can do better..Â
L: Me too. But you know Lestat is his prison. Its like him trying to get over a bad breakup and heâs still a hundred years later youâre sort of still trying to understand and deal with what happened in this relationship.Â
N: And you see here in 2022 and heâs still mad. Relatable.Â
L: Of course, of course. Lestat made him a vampire. He became in a way his everything. He became isolated from his family and his friends. He has nothing. Itâs classic abusive, toxic. Heâs isolated Louis.Â
Voicemail from listener: I did watch the first episode, I was very intrigued but I did not read the book. I was a little confused about why Louisâs brother killed himself and then I thought maybe Lestat had gotten into his head because he wants Louis so badly but he wants Louis to come to him. So what better way to get someone and get into someoneâs head when they are in mourning for someone they loved and vulnerable. I just wanted to know if that was why Paul killed himself that Lestat put that in his head so he could get to Louis.Â
N: Youâre asking the question that Louis asks in this episode! I thought this was such a huge moment, have you been sitting on this for 30 years? Have you been with this person wondering this all this time? Can you tell me your thoughts on this question? He says no.Â
L: He says no, but as you said, him having this question for 30 years and never asked before, what does that mean? Does that mean he had his doubts but he didnât want to ask and didnât want the truth? But now theyre standing at this threshold so heâs like Im gonna ask this question but I think Lestat did not have anything to do with it. I think heâs telling the truth.. What do you think?
N: Its tricky to me cause we know Lestat is a manipulator, thats what he does. On one hand, the way he responds, I believe that but he did get in Paulâs head at the dinner table.Â
L: But if he did do it, heâs irredeemable in a way. Which is why I think he did not do it.Â
N: Why do you think Lestat is telling his story NOW?
L: To me, its cause he know he has to give him something. Itâs purely tactical. Heâs very earnest when he tells it, its very down to earth and grounded and direct.Â
N: Was that something you and Sam talked about?Â
L: Yes, we talked about it and we said this has to be different. It has to feel different for you to sort of lay that final punch toward winning over Louis for real. Without doubt. I donât want the audience to feel Louis is an idiot. You have to understand Louis like heâs finally giving me something real something vulnerable.Â
N: Speaking of sort of this intimacy and this toxicity of this relationship, do you think Lestat deserves forgiveness?Â
L: Itâs an interesting question and I was thinking about it, cause when you read the books and you read TVL/QOTD, its told from Lestatâs POV and heâs manipulating the reader and you love him and youâre inside his mind and he motivates all of his bad decisions and the bad stuff he does. When you see him objectively from the outside, it becomes more complicated. And this is Louisâs retelling of Lestat. The real question to me is does Louis really forgive him? Iâm not sure he does, he takes him in again but is he totally open to him or has he locked off some places?Â
N: You gotta lock up some places with Lestat.Â
L: You can see that in relationships. People who have been together too long and you wonder should they really be or is it just comfortable its easier like this to keep going.Â
N: Lestat will not let him go and we also see he wonât let Claudia go. I HATE HIM! WHY why wonât he just let Claudia go? The thing I donât understand is he never wanted Claudia, he made her to appease Louis so Iâm like why wouldnât he let her go so he can have Louis all to himself again?Â
L: Yes, cause he knows heâs never going to be enough for Louis. He knows that Louis is going to be depressed and thinking about Claudia, he doesnât want to rock the status quo of the situation, he just wants to keep it as is. Cause its going to be trouble for Lestat.Â
N: I feel like Lestat is his own trouble. If he could just be nice and stop having side pieces. Cause this is what kills me, when he mentions the Bruce thing adn knowing what we know of Lestat and how vengeful he is.. Why didnât he go kill Bruce?Â
L: yeah thatâs a good question.Â
N: Oh so you knew all this time and we know you love killing people just for fun, could you just go kill Bruce for the family please? I was mad..Â
L: Me too.Â
N: One of the things too is the idea of enduring. As Lestat says, we endure each other. In some ways, Louis is just enduring Lestat like what can I do, so Iâm just gonna stay with him. Is enduring something to even be proud of? Doesnât sound great to me.Â
L: I agree, its a way of suffering. I see it almost as a duty to go through these things and to endure. Being a vampire and living forever is an endurance. In this context, Louis is saying what else can I do? He doesnât have anyone else, he doesnât know any other vampires, why not just endure this and let this pass? Cause you see time differently when youâre a vampire, like itâs gonna be 10 bad years but then things are gonna change.Â
N: 10 bad years.. Whatâs one bad decade?
L: Yeah cause they donât have what we do which is like its now or never. Iâve gotta get my shit together now. Hustling to try to fulfill all your dreams. Heâs like whats the point? And try to make the best of this, cause this is what we have and the cards weâve been dealt.Â
N: That brings me to Molloy in present day when Louis offers him eternal life and Molloy says no so quickly when we know that was not the case in the 70s. I interpret it as having heard this story, heâs like no I do not want to be a vampire now knowing what he knows hes like no thank you.Â
L: Also I think being older and seeing what an effed up place the world is and its all going to hell and its the middle of the pandemic and climate change and wars, I think Molloy is like I donât wanna stay here.Â
N: This episode ends with Molloy having a dream? A memory? I love a camera pan and heâs there.Â
L: I freaked out when I was reading it too... This series is everything I wanted as a fan, there are so many cool things youâre going to see in the series from the book. And a lot of things Rolin has planted now that you will see later.Â
Horror Author Jewelle Gomez
N: Episode 6 did not leave me feeling good, coming off the heels of 5, it was another pummeling in a way.Â
J: Louis has gone through the ringer and its not that often you get to a see a vampire who has to recover. Usually in TV/movies its like bada bing bada bang and injuries are gone. This is a knitting back together and its an emotional thing to watch.Â
N: Itâs been years, it takes like 3 years to get back to who he was like walking around. This is an episode about the family dynamic and how it is changed by what Lestat has done. What do you think is different about a vampire family? Should they even be a family? Are they forcing something not right?Â
J: Weâre thinking like mortals, like they can get a therapist to work it through. I think itâs valuable to try to make something but it has to be as Louis say no lies and I dont think Lestat is ever capable of being fully present and fully honest even when he says heâs going to compromise or be honest I donât know if you can trust him in particular. And then you add in Claudia who is in many ways superior to Louis and Lestat, sheâs got a really strong mind a strong intellectâŠÂ
N: Theyâre like sheâs a sweet little girl, it will be fine. Have you never met a teenage girl?Â
J; WRONG.Â
N: Itâs funny cause I donât think of her as smarter but she is colder. Louis he is bound by this love of Lestat, heâs in his thrall. Then Lestat is driven by power and control. Claudia just wants to be free⊠she is the one who is the least attached in this trio which enables her to see clearly and this dynamic is not right and I dont have to stand for it.Â
J: Sheâs coming into her own as she goes out into the world and sees women. Sheâs never going to become one in the traditional scene and it engenders her anger. She is definitely chillier than Louis and thatâs a surprise to them. Sheâs not as wedded to the value of mortals cause sheâs never lived as long as a mortal. Sheâs chilly and ruthless.Â
N: Absolutely, a bit theme of the series is ht eidea of freedom vs repression and she says to Louis lets leave and go to Europe lets life our own life. But do you think you can really be free as a vampire? Do you think a vampire is any more free as a mortal?
J: Usually its the stuff you take into your vampire life before you were a vampire, but if you were not taught how to create family or what freedom really means, it would be very hard to be free of someone like Lestat. I think thatâs a significant element of who Claudia is trying to be free, what it creates for her is assault. She takes that into how she feels about Louis and Lestat. Its stoked by this incident by Bruce, its something they do not understand, even reading the diary you canât really understand what it means to a woman to have that experience. Itâs a very valuable part of the story for us to understand claudia and why she wants to be free why she will go to any lengths to be free.Â
N: She thinks the only way to be free is killing Lestat. What are the vampire rules against killing your maker?Â
J: Itâs like how mortals views patricide or matricide. Itâs like the worst crime other than killing your child. It sentences you to death in the vampire world.Â
N: Can she ever really be free? If she thinks the only way to freedom is to kill Lestat but to do so would put a target on her back⊠thereâs no way out for her?Â
J: The only way for her would be if Lestat turns over a new leaf and just lets them go on their European tour but whatâs more likely to happen when he finally does understand Claudia is serious and powerful. The possibility of him killing her is not that slim. He might just be done with her and is not worth the hassle. Sheâs not in love with him the way Louis is.Â
N: Weâve talked a bit about Louis being in love with Lestat and in his thrall but Claudia says weâre slaves to Lestat and Louis is like thatâs not true. Why does he not see do you think?Â
J: Iâll tell you, when she tells Louis weâre slaves to Lestat, Louis knows what slavery looks like in real life, he does not feel its true for him in this moment. Even though slavery comes in different shapes sizes and forms, heâs like little girl you donât know what youâre talking about. He doesnât take in himself as a slave but heâs unable to see himself as a slave but someone who treats him the way Lestat does is not healthy. We cannot underestimate he is in love, he takes the position of the battered spouse who keeps forgiving.Â
N: Its Claudia who gives the strength to Louis, when she says we donât have to be like this anymore, you deserve better, we deserve better, we can start over. The young person who sees all the opportunities vs. the older person who was never given that opportunity.Â
J; And that gives you hope that things can change but sheâs also a young person who doesnât know the past so she doesnât know what Louisâs been through to get where he is. So its a double edged sword in some ways, but the hope part of it is most valuable to Louis at this stage of this story.Â
N: If youâre vampire, where would you live and when? Preferred time period and location where you would feel the most free?
J: I would live between London and NY. London in the 1800s - number 1 the clothes, the outfits, Iâm a corset queen and bloomers on your bicycle and you could go to the theater every night of the week and see something different. As a person of color I wouldnât be invited to a lot of the salons, thatâs alright Iâld have my own vampire salons.Â
