Heyyo! I’d like to request a mtmte matchup, if possible?
This got pretty long so if you decide not to do it i totally understand!
For sides, i don’t really have a preference, i tend to stay out of most conflicts. Pretty sure i’d be a neutral.
I’m afab and use she/her pronouns. I’m 169 cm and get teased for it a lot. But i’m pretty massive for someone my size, and i’m strong as hell. Don’t rly get messed with other than a few friendlly jabs.
I dress in a way i like to call „whatever Brainstorm would wear” :
oversized hoodies
graphic tees, either fandom stuff or just puns
jeans(ripped, high waisted)
funky shirts to go over the hoodies and sometimes jumpers
colorful socks
ankle boots and leather jackets
But really, anything colorful and kind of extra with a little black thrown in.
Hobbies:
doing random research til 3 am and forgetting to eat/sleep/drink
sending the same meme to 3 groupchats and friends bc i need more reactions to that
witchy stuff
writing poems to vent
blasting music while i bake/cook/or study, sometimes singing along
starting new hobbies and abandoning them after a few days
same with art projects
taking naps anywhere and anytime
collecting rather useless things(i have at least 500 topjoy caps and like 5 porcelain clowns)
but rly, my room is full of stuff i don’t need but i think they’re neat
Personality:
do no harm take no shit attitude(i never start fights but i will finish them)
i put others before myself, but it gets me in trouble a lot
flirty for fun but if someone flirts back i get so flustered i can't even reply
i like making fun of people and make it look unintentional
like, i say something rly rude and uncalled for, and i know it hurts them but it’s so good seeing ppl forgive me bc they thought i was joking(i wasn’t)
people come to me for advice a lot bc i look at the problem in most perspectives, not just theirs
i also don’t often sugarcoat things
my humor is what you get when you mix puns, dark, and dry humor with sarcasm
i’m a big sucker for headpats (and peanut butter)if you let me fall asleep in your lap AND pet my hair, i’ll probs fall in love
i rly like caring for others? i think i’d be a good wife/mom
platonic/romantic cuddling is my everything, though my love language is giving/recieving gifts
i like to make ppl doubt their beliefs for funsies, i just have a way with words
Other:
when poked, if i’m suprised enough i let out a little squeal, some say it’s cute
i get crushes very easily, from all genders, i always notice if someone likes me but i wait for their first move
i have adhd, so coffeine makes me tired, but sugar hypes me up
i like pshysics, psychology and biology, i wanna be a sociologist when i'm done with art school
headcanon or oneshot, it's up to you, hope you have a nice time :3c
You got…Nautica!
Okay, hear me out- You have your whole sciences figured out, precisely what you enjoy most- and you are confident with it. That alone has me thinking that Nautica would start off as a bit of a...fan? She really admires you; you seem like you have everything together and know what you want from life. Nautica starts picking up pieces you are putting down, which naturally starts having a positive effect on her own mood and day-to-day chores. Naturally, she can only do that so long before actually becoming your friend. It would make sense that her lack of togetherness is also something you need more of. That sweet, sweet chaos... She is also a fantastic liar, great at convincing people things that might seem way out of the realm of possibilities, and you are great at spinning the story. You just mess with people a lot, maybe it's a bit mean, but heyyyy- Having been through a lot, she could really use that mom/wife side of you. Someone there can provide genuine care beyond just listening or comfort but in experiences. In return, she gives you the grandmother who's seen some shit and was probably gay at some point vibes. She knows everything technical; the woman will build you a castle if you ask her in a single night. Your motto is 'wives for lives.' I also think your theme song would be Sugar by Robin Schulz!
———-
Authors Note - Do not worry about length! Honestly, the ones with barely any info are the ones that kiiiiill me; the more, the better :) Sometimes when I read matchups, I have the big 'why aren't they my friend?!' moment, and it just happened.

What Happened at the Party
Bwhahahahaaha. This is for the Breakup theme.
What Happened at the Party
When she saw the familiar little green car, Caitlin felt her stomach lurch. Her friend Iris, who'd driven up at the same time as her, gave her a worried glance. "You gonna be okay?"
"Fine!" Caitlin said breezily. "Fine."
"Uh . . . huh," her friend mumbled. "Look, if you just want to stay for a little while, Barry would totally understand."
"It's been a year since Cisco and I broke up," Caitlin said. "We dated for a year. You know there's that formula where you grieve the end of a relationship for half the length of time the relationship lasted?"
"I mean, that's like a guideline, really, " Iris said.
"Okay, a guideline. By that guideline, I'm well beyond the grieving period and I'll be just fine."
"If you say so."
The door opened and Barry lit up, swooping in to kiss Iris. Caitlin, well used to their grand romantic gestures, waited patiently until they came up for air. "Hi, Barry," she said.
"Hi," he said, eyes zeroing in on the dish she carried. "Oooohhhh. Pie?"
"Mmhm. Chocolate peanut butter."
"Nice," Barry said. "Okay! So! Fun fact. Cisco's here."
"It's okay," Caitlin said. "I saw his car."
"And he brought somebody."
Caitlin's stomach dropped.
"Wait," Iris said, holding up a hand. "This is Cisco. He's friendly. He's probably introduced you to half the people here today. Did he bring somebody or did he bring somebody?"
Barry looked baffled for a moment. "Whichever one means he has a new girlfriend?"
Caitlin felt her stomach go ice-cold.
"Oh shit," Iris said. "Babe, you didn't tell me he was dating someone new."
"He said it's only been a couple of weeks, so they're all kissy and huggy and snuggly -"
Iris hissed at him and turned to Caitlin. "Should we hate her? We can hate her."
"No," Caitlin said. "I'm sure she's very nice. Cisco's always had good taste in partners, mostly." She hesitated.
"This isn't a Lisa situation," Barry said promptly. "I checked. No Lisa vibe."
"See?" Caitlin said. "No Lisa vibe. What's she like?"
"Uh, her name is Kamilla, and she's like a photographer, I think? Oh, and she's vegan. That's all I got."
Caitlin mustered up a smile. "Great."
Barry cocked his head. "Great, like, you think she sounds awful and that's great? Or -"
"Look, I still care about Cisco and I want him to be happy. So great means great. I'll go out there and I'll say hello, and I'll meet her, and it'll be - "
"Great?" Iris suggested.
"Fine," Caitlin said firmly.
They looked at her doubtfully.
"I can handle this, guys, I promise. It won't be like last year. Thank you for the heads-up, Barry." She lifted her pie. "Usual place?"
"Yeah, you know where it is," he said, waving her through.
He turned to Iris. "You think this is going to be okay?"
"Hard to say," she said. "And by the way, honey, we need to work on your definition of fun fact."
--
Caitlin dropped off her pie at the dessert table and circulated through the party, smiling and greeting people she knew. She chatted with someone about their new dog, another person about their job, a third person about the weather.
The whole time, some internal radar was zeroed in on the man across the backyard. Who he was talking to. How he laughed. The bright smile on his face.
How his arm had never left its spot around the waist of the cute girl cuddled up to his side.
As far as she could tell, he didn't even know she was here.
Which was fine by her.
"Hmmm?" she said, vaguely aware that someone had asked her a question.
"I said I'm surprised you came," Sara repeated. "After what happened last year."
"Nice," said her girlfriend.
"What? I'm just saying. It was kind of a blowout."
Caitlin grimaced. "I know. Cisco and I had been on the rocks for a few weeks but that was - " She shook her head. "We should have saved that fight for home." She gripped her elbows and raised her chin. "But we agreed, after we broke up, that we wouldn't put Iris or Barry in the middle of things and we could be cordial to each other, which is what we're doing."
"Okayyyyy," Sara mumbled and took a drink.
It wasn't as if their breakup was the only thing that had ever happened at Barry's annual birthday bash, Caitlin thought, making her excuses and going off to say hi to someone else. She and Cisco had also met here, five years ago. The click had been immediate, almost audible. They'd made plans to hang out within minutes of meeting, had been fast friends by the end of the week.
And two years ago, they'd kissed for the first time - there, around the side of the house where it was quiet and green and smelled like roses.
But Sara was right. Last year, it had all fallen apart.
Sometimes Caitlin tried to track where or how their relationship had collapsed. After all, they'd been good friends for three years before they started dating. But what had been so good at the start had turned bad so gradually that before she knew it they were fighting more than they were talking and the thought of him made her stomach knot instead of bringing a smile to her face.
Then she'd said those terrible words, under that tree right there, where she'd dragged him so they wouldn't be fighting in the middle of the party: "You know what, maybe I don't even want to be with you anymore."
And he'd said the equally terrible words: "Maybe I don't either."
Then it had been all icy silences and stiff texts letting him know that his stuff was on her porch and he could leave hers in its place. Such an awful end to something that had been the best part of her life for so long. Sometimes she thought she missed the friendship as much as she missed the romantic relationship.
The smell of the grill tempted her in its direction, and she was almost there when she realized with a lurch of horror that Cisco and his new girlfriend - what was her name? Kamilla, that was it - were already walking up.
She thought about running in the other direction.
But this would have to happen sometime, and she was hungry, and it was best to get it over with now instead of later. Especially since later, it might be just them, and she didn't know if she could grit her teeth and act cordial without other people around them. At least it was just Barry, who was running the barbecue grill, and if she slipped up he wouldn't blame her.
"Hey, Barry," Kamilla said. "Can you put on a veggie dog for me?"
Cisco hugged her closer. "Go ahead and put one on for me too."
She turned a beaming face toward him. "Babe! You don't have to."
"Yeah, babe, but I wanna kiss you later and you don't like the taste of meat."
She giggled. "Baaaabe."
"Hey, Caitlin," Barry said rather loudly. "Your usual?"
"Yes, thank you," she said, pretending not to notice that Cisco had jerked like someone had tasered him. "Oh, Cisco, hi. I was wondering if I'd see you here today."
Barry coughed, although that could have been some smoke getting blown in his face, and tossed a turkey patty next to the two veggie dogs.
"Hey, Caitlin," Cisco said. Was it her imagination, or did he grip Kamilla's waist a little tighter? "When did you get here?"
"A little while ago," Caitlin said. She smiled at Kamilla. "Hi, I'm Caitlin."
"Kamilla," Cisco's new girlfriend said, smiling back. "So how do you know each other?"
Cisco jumped in. "She’s - ah - she's an old - we dated for about a year."
Clearly, this was new information to Kamilla, from the way the smile on her face went rigid for a split second. But Caitlin had to give her props for recovery. "Hi, Caitlin," she said. "Nice to meet you. So when was this? In high school?"
"Nope," she said. "We broke it off - what, Cisco, about a year ago now?" She was proud of herself for the breeziness in her tone.
"Mmm, yeah, about that," he said, as if he hadn't stormed out of this exact party and she hadn't gone inside to cry in the bathroom for an hour.
"Oh," Kamilla said, sounding only a little bit strangled.
Had he seriously not warned her that Caitlin was going to be here? Or maybe he hadn't given it, or her, a single thought since they broke up. Caitlin considered glaring at him, but thought it might get misinterpreted.
"Well!" Kamilla said. "It's nice to meet you."
"You too! How did you meet?"
"Oh, he came into the bar where I work," Kamilla said, beaming at Cisco. "I thought he was going to spend the whole night hitting on college girls but he spent it talking to me."
"So you're a bartender?"
"Day job," Kamilla said. "I'm actually a photographer."
"You should see her work," Cisco said. "It's really artistic."
"That's so interesting! Do you sell any?"
"Just a few prints online, a little stock photography, you know. But I'm hoping to get a show someday. What do you do?"
"Oh, I'm a research scientist," Caitlin said.
"Oh," Kamilla said rather faintly. Was she bored or intimidated? Caitlin had gotten both. "Neat! Researching what?"
"My focus right now is on gene therapies that can hopefully stall or reverse the progress of multiple sclerosis."
Cisco's eyes lit. "Seriously? That's great, I know you wanted to get into that area."
Warmth spilled through her chest, and she smiled at him. He'd always been like this, even at the end. "Yes, I was really happy to get assigned to that project."
"How is your dad doing these days?"
"He's using his cane a lot more lately, but he's also on a new medication that's really helping with his fatigue." She glanced at Kamilla and explained, "My dad has MS."
"Oh, I'm sorry," Kamilla said in that particular hushed, funereal way people had when they'd never had to think about chronic illness even once.
Caitlin kept her smile pasted on. "It’s okay. He's had it all my life. It's just something we've always lived with, as a family."
She thought about asking after Cisco's parents, but at that moment, Barry chirped, "Veggie dogs up!"
He held out two plates to Cisco and Kamilla, their dogs bunned up and ready to go. "Caitlin, it's going to be a few more minutes for yours."
"Oh, sure," Caitlin said. "That's fine."
"Let's go hit the potluck table, babe," Cisco said.
"Oh yes!” Kamilla cried, with outsize enthusiasm given that she probably couldn’t eat ninety percent of the offerings. “Caitlin, it was nice to meet you."
"You too!" Caitlin said, and turned toward Barry. "So how is life at CCPD these days?"
He chatted with her about his job for a moment or two, then said in a low voice, "So that was okay."
"Sure," she said.
He looked sympathetic. "You want cheese?"
"No, I'm all right." She picked up a plate and held it out for her turkey burger, thinking well, that's over.
She sat on the steps of the deck, next to somebody she'd known in her grad program. They chatted about minor scandals in the science world and she ate her turkey burger in slow, careful bites, not tasting a single one.
She wandered by the potluck table, stood staring at the side salads and chips and veggie trays that people had brought. She took a carrot stick and laid it on her plate. It looked small and withered and alone.
So unbelievably alone.
She added a celery stick. That didn’t seem to help. She tipped them both into the trash and decided it was time for dessert.
The dessert table was in the kitchen, so she went inside, air-conditioned air washing around her. She wanted sugar, badly. Chocolate, cookies, popsicles, whatever people had brought that would rot her teeth and block the tears.
She checked on her pie and was gratified to see that her little sign saying "Contains peanuts!" was still there, and that one quarter of the pie was already gone. She had made two pies, leaving one at home in the fridge because she'd known how this would go, so she skipped over it and checked out what else was on offer.
Chocolate chip cookies. Individual ice cream cups in a cooler. Mini eclairs in their Costco box, still frozen in the center. A shining chocolate cake in a plastic carrying case. Yes, yes, all of it.
"Hey."
She looked over, then away, quickly. "Hi," she said a little overbrightly, to the parfait she was scooping onto her plate. Shit. He knew she ate sugar when she was upset. But she also liked desserts in general. Maybe she would get away with this.
He was alone. Where was Kamilla? Bathroom, maybe?
Act natural.
He said, "I, uh - "
"Which one did you bring?" He'd always liked cooking, trying out new things. Sometimes that had been a cause of friction, like when he used every pot in the kitchen and it turned out terrible and they'd wound up going to the drive-thru at nine o'clock at night.
"There," he said, pointing at a box with a clear plastic lid.
"Donuts!" she said.
"Mmhm. Kamilla and I made them together."
"Oh," she said.
They'd attempted to cook together a few times but since cooking was how she relaxed and disconnected, it hadn't gone well.
She opened the box. "Well, I've never had vegan donuts but I'm sure they'll be interesting."
His hand reached past hers and gently closed the box. For a moment, she thought, you don't even want me touching something you made with her? Then he said, "They're not great. Trust me."
“They can’t be that bad."
He shook his head, very solemn. "Vegan donuts are donuts of sadness," he said. "I have learned this."
"I'm sure there are some vegan donuts that are good."
"Proooooobably," he allowed. "But these are not it." He grinned at her, and instinctively, she smiled back.
"Okay," she said, leaving the box closed.
He chose a mini-eclair for himself and bit it in half. “So are you here with someone?”
She meant to say a simple no, but it came out as, “Oh, he was busy today.”
“Oh? He? Someone I know?"
She swallowed, panic bubbling up. “No, you wouldn't know him. I work with him.”
“Another Star Labs workaholic?”
That shouldn't have stung as hard as it did, but it brought back a nasty echo of their hissed fight over by the barbecue grill last summer, as he'd accused her of never having time for him. Her voice went chilly as she said, "He doesn't work at Star Labs and neither do I anymore. I took a job with Mercury."
"You? You left Star Labs? The most prestigious, well-paid research lab in the Midwest?" he asked, echoing what she’d always recited as reasoning for sticking with her job.
"I decided to value my mental health more than money and prestige. Mercury is much more supportive of their employees' work/life balance."
He blinked. “Wow, that’s - that’s great.”
She picked up a spoon and started scooping something out of a random bowl onto her plate. "So how are you? How are your parents?"
"I'm good," he said. "My parents are . . . they were good, the last I saw them."
She glanced at him quickly. Ever since she'd known him, he'd been at his parents' beck and call, running every time they texted. During that last terrible argument, she'd snapped back that he might see her more if he wasn't constantly canceling dates because his parents needed him. "Did they move?"
"No, I just, ah, I went low-contact with them. Haven't really talked to them in about - " He considered. "About a month now."
"Oh," she said, looking back at her plate. She'd gotten Chester's dreadful candy bar salad with the pineapple. Ugh. Gross. "Any - um - any particular reason?"
If he’d broken off contact with his parents because of Kamilla, after all the times his mother had been rude to Caitlin, calling her things in Spanish she wasn’t supposed to understand . . .
He laughed, but it held no mirth. "They stood me up for my birthday dinner because Dante needed help buying a car." He shrugged. "I kind of figured out that I was never going to be their favorite or their priority. No matter what I did."
She put her hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry."
"Yeah, well . . ." he mumbled.
"It's their loss," she said. "Is it better for you?"
"Hurts like hell," he said. "But yeah. It's better."
"You seem happy," she said. "I mean, in general."
"I am."
"Good. I'm glad." She realized she was still holding shoulder, and removed it so she could portion herself some of Iris's ambrosia. "Kamilla's nice," she said brightly.
"She is! Yeah. She is."
"How long has it been?"
"Oh, like a month now? It's really good. I can see this going the distance, you know?"
She felt like she'd swallowed razor blades. "That's great."
He smiled at her. "Hey, you know what, we should double-date."
"We should what?"
"Yeah, me and Kamilla, you and your guy. We should grab dinner together or something."
"Oh. Well, actually - " He lives in London. He has a moral objection to eating out. He's in training to go to the moon. He - "We really aren't like that."
"Like what?"
"Dating. It's just . . . casual." She smiled. "You know? No strings attached kind of thing. When we've both got some free time and need to blow off steam."
He blinked a few times. "You? You have a fuck buddy."
She hated that term. It made her skin crawl. Cisco knew that perfectly well, so she just shrugged. "I guess you could call it that." She ate a grape out of the ambrosia, licking it clean of whipped cream and biting it in half. "Sorry, I don't think a nice foursome dinner is in our future. But it was nice seeing you."
She strolled off, hoping like crazy that Cisco didn't mention this fictitious casual sex partner of hers to anybody else.
She made herself do one more circuit of the backyard. She had no idea who she saw or what she said. She was focused on not looking like she was about to run away.
Even though she was.
Iris found her dumping her plate into the kitchen trash. "Heard the first face-to-face went down," she said. "You okay?"
"I came, I saw him, we were cordial. I survived," Caitlin said. "And if I go home and dive face-first into a pint of Cherry Garcia and a bottle of wine, that's nobody's business but my own."
Iris put her arm around Caitlin's shoulder and hugged her gently. "That whole grieving process guideline?"
"Whoever made that up is full of shit."
--
Some hours later, Barry dropped into the lawn chair next to Cisco. "Hey, man. You awake?"
"Yup," Cisco said, head tipped back, eyes closed. He swung his beer bottle lightly between his fingers. "Almost outta beer though."
Barry considered it. "How many of those have you had?"
Cisco tipped it up and drained it. "Almost enough."
"You okay to drive?"
"Mmmmmm. Might hafta crash on your couch. 'Zat okay?"
"You know it is." Barry nudged him. "You don't even have to use the couch. You and Kamilla can use the guest room."
"Mmmmm." Cisco dropped the bottle to the grass. "Sh'left."
"She what? She left?"
"Called an Uber. Kinda mad at me."
"Why?"
"Says I didn't give her a heads-up Caitlin was gonna be here. Or that we dated. Like, c'mon, we've only been together a week and a half. People have exes. It's a thing."
"Still, she might've appreciated the heads-up."
Cisco sighed. "Yeah, I guess, I just . . . I didn't wanna talk to her about Caitlin. It's like, sore. Who wants to talk about their last ex?"
"A lot of people," Barry said. "Especially when she's going to be at the same party, which you knew, cuz I told you."
Cisco sighed again, more heavily. "Okay, yeah, maybe you've got a point. I'll call her tomorrow and apologize. Plus she has nothing to be afraid of. Caitlin doesn't want me back." He swung his bottle again. "So wait, you know who this guy is?"
"What guy?"
"The guy she's dating now."
Barry cocked his head. "Kamilla?"
"Nnnnoooooooooo," Cisco drawled. "Kamilla's dating me. Caitlin's dating . . . some dude. Actually not dating. She's all like, 'ha-ha, we're not like that.' They're friends with benefits or something."
This was the first Barry had heard of it. He opened his mouth to say so when Cisco plowed on with the tenacity of the sloppy drunk.
"Which, what the hell, man? I suggested friends with benefits years ago and she was like no, I don't do that, it doesn't work for me, I need to be in a relationship. Took me another six months to man the fuck up and ask her out for realsies. Who's this guy that's getting her to settle for less than what she wants?" He wagged his finger in the air. "You! You should find out who he is, Bare. You should find out who he is and kick his ass."
Barry smiled at nothing. "You could kick his ass. I mean, you're the one who seems to think it should be done."
"C'mon, I can't do that, then everyone would say I was just jealous. M'not jealous. Just, she deserves better than, than, you know, some dude who just wants to get laid. Just like a friendly ass-kicking. C'mon."
"Okay, maybe."
"I'm not jealous. I'm with Kamilla."
"Mmmmhmm," Barry said, eating some pie. "I can tell. You're totally over Caitlin."
"Totally," Cisco said, and lifted his head, looking around blearily. "Hey, where'd m'beer go?"

SECTION THREE. Describe your bias by their vibes as if they were someone in your life. (I’m doing my Ults, 1 from each group.)
Jongdae (EXO): The guy that everyone knows because he’s the one with that distinguishable laugh. The class clown that knows the limits and only crosses them on rare occasions. You think you know him but then he’ll say something that you never knew about him. Craves his independence but is the quiet one when in a large group, smiling as he watches the more energetic ones run about. An old soul trapped in a young body.
Yoongi (BTS): The one who devotes himself to his work and rarely sees the light of day. His room is littered with empty to go cups of coffee mixed with his own assortment of coffee mugs Coffee ring stains on furniture. You think he’s not listening or paying attention but when you least expect it, he’ll quietly do something or hand you a gift that he knows you treasure. He’ll never ask for cuddles, but he’ll always give them to you and refuse to let you go when you try to get up. Wise beyond his years because he’s suffered and doesn’t wish it on anyone else.
Yuta (NCT): The popular guy that at first everyone warns you about, but once you get to know him yourself, you don’t know why they warned you in the first place because he’s a total sweetheart. The guy who flirts with everyone and anyone, but remains loyal to his girl. He’s never without his iced coffee, and he’s dyeing his hair in the bathtub with a friend to help make sure it doesn’t go too wrong. Will entertain your drunk texts. He’s the one to text at 2 am when you’re feeling alone and down and he’ll do what he can to lift you back up with nothing but the truth.
Hongjoong (Ateez): He’s the guy who doesn’t give a shit about trends or styles, he creates his own. The guy who does the piercings at the local tattoo shop knows him by name because he’s gotten so many of his piercings done there. He is the Fashion DIY King. Will roast his friends the hardest because he loves them the most and takes it when they dish it back. Somehow manages to rock hairstyles - long live the mullet - that no one thought should have ever existed. Don’t let him cook though. If he cooks you’ll end up with food poisoning. He’s the one who will let you try makeup tricks and new products on him. Secretly amazing at painting nails.
Wonho (Monsta X): He’s the guy friend that you never expected to be friends with. Him? You? Total opposites on a physical scale. On completely different levels. Once you get to know him, he’s a total teddy bear. Doesn’t question it when you suddenly appear and hug him without saying a word, he’ll simply hug you back while maintaining the conversation he had going. Or he’ll simply surprise you with a hug because he likes them.
Bang Chan (Stray Kids): He’s the one that always has his earbuds in even during class. Like he’s the guy that has the earbud going through the sleeve of his hoodie and is pressing his palm against his ear to listen to the music. Listens to everyone, even if he doesn’t know them that well and gives really good advice if they ask for it.
Jackson (Got7): The guy that you can hear a mile away. Hyper. Can’t sit still to save his life. He was the guy that you’d see doing laps in the hallway with his friends when he should have been in class, but he was the nice one. Passionate and when you ask him about what he’s working on, he’ll talk about it for hours. Will also apologize multiple times for going on but then continue to go on.
SECTION FOUR. Search your name + “core aesthetic” on Pinterest and make yourself a moodboard
SECTION FIVE. Make a normal and fantasy version of yourself using this !
SECTION SIX. Writing tag game!
What is your ideal setting for focusing on your writing?
A quiet office where I can play music softly in the background and be at a desk with a comfortable chair.
What Genre do you prefer to write?
Slice of Life, Young Adult, College Age.
Do you prefer to write on paper or digitally?
Both.
It’s the middle of the night and you suddenly wake up with an idea. What do you do?
Make a note of it in either my notebook or in the notes section on my phone.
Who is your favorite person to write about?
Jimin and Hoseok
Do you like making your own characters, or do you usually write about real people?
I like to do both. Honestly, it’s kinda like a mix of both. With some of my fics, the only thing that makes them fanfics are that I’m using the real person’s name, and I’ll pin point on certain aspects of their physical features. In Brotið Hjarta, the only thing that connects to it being Namjoon is his name, and maybe his hair style/color and ear piercings, everything else was what I imagined it to be.
Have you ever written a book/story with more than 15 chapters (100K words)?
Yes. Strawberry Cream and BBQ
How often do you get ideas?
From everyday life, sometimes I’ll be daydreaming and it kinda morphs into a story or a fanfic and so I’ll make notes so that I don’t forget it.
Do you ever get an idea that you really like, but just can’t seem to finish?
Yessss, all the time.
What is your least favorite plot?
I don’t know about least favorite plots, but I do hate it when fics dive straight into a story without any background or anything. Wait, so maybe that’s pwp fics????? I don’t want to be a hypocrite, but even with my fics that primarily focus on smut, I still add in those background details and give them a teeny tiny plot.
SECTION SEVEN. Put your music on shuffle and reveal the first ten songs that come on.
The Kids Aren’t Alright - Fall out Boy
In the Dark - Bring Me the Horizon
Teeth - 5 Seconds of Summer
All In - Monsta X
To the Beat - Ateez
Shot - Lil’ Jon
Daechwita - Agust D
Treasure - Ateez
Adore You - Harry Styles
Guys My Age - Hey Violet

thank you! i think you're genuinely the only person that has ever said they actually like the fact that my bathrobe is obnoxiously pink. and you're absolutely right, one of the things i like most about it is that it hurts people's eyes. i love it actually. if you ever celebrate halloween you should absolutely add your bathrobe to your costume. an amazing idea. since it has a mouse face on the hood it could be two costumes rolled into one - both a vampire and a mouse (if in the middle of the evening you get bored of one), which i think would be awesome. and you probably wouldn't get cold (is it cold in nz during halloween? because here it almost always is). we don't celebrate halloween in lithuania either though. which i'm a bit bummed about, because halloween sounds super fun. mostly because of the dressing up! but i did celebrate it once, when i was 11 or 12 maybe? me and a couple of friends decided it would be fun even if it's not really celebrated here. so we dressed up, even went trick ir treating (half the houses had no idea what was happening and also i pretty much froze to death because i was dressed as a dead bride and refused to put a coat on because then you couldn't see my dress) and also watched horror movies. 12 (or 11) year old me thought it was amazing.
oh yeah! i've broken a knife on 2 separate occasions i think. once i tried to get something out of between the blender's blades, used a knife and then accidentally turned the blender on (i'm so fucking glad it was a knife and not my fingers). so the tip of the knife broke off (the blender was ok tho). and the second time i have no idea how it happened. i was cutting up broccoli and the knife just fell apart??? i was so confused, because one second i'm holding a knife and the next it's just two pieces of a handle and the metal part, all separate. had fun explaining that to my dad. you sound pretty unlucky too! i mean, a cut every time you use a knife, but you don't even notice it at the time? i think it's just that knives are out to get us (it's my newest conspiracy theory). i actually get double vision too sometimes! mostly when i'm tired, but i just figured that it was because i have really bad eyesight
they definitely SHOULD teach about gender and sexuality in school. it's a really big problem that in a lot of places it's either not compulsory or not even in the curriculum. honestly, everything i know about sex ed or lgbtq+ i had to learn myself on the internet, because we only had one class when we were like 13 years old with a guest speaker and it was mostly biology and then a little bit about menstruation and pads for girls (i have no idea what they told boys because we were also separated). so sex ed definitely sucks a lot in my country and i bet it's the same in a lot of others, which makes me really mad
exactly!! it's so hard to tell whether i'm feeling romantic or platonic love sometimes! it's confusing. also i remember one time me and a couple of friends had a sleepover and the friend's, who was hosting, parents weren't home so we watched romance movies (scandalous i know). again we were maybe 12. and they kept going "oh he's so hot" and intensely watching the sex scenes. while i was looking away from the tv whenever sexy times were going on and commenting on how much i loved the house design and the garden. gee i wonder what that means. (still can't believe it took me this long to figure out i was ace)
the breakfast went very well though! it's so interesting how different traditions are everywhere. i hope your lunch and the rest of christmas day went well too! (also i forgot to ask last time, but what is boxing day? google says it's mostly a shopping holiday, is it that? we just call it the second day of christmas and it's pretty much the same as christmas day but there's no presents!) but yeah i hope you had fun with your extended family on boxing day!
having acid reflux sounds like it sucks. i love breakfast, it's my favourite meal of the day (when i don't have to rush that is) and i skip lunch a lot because i usually have no time for it (my schedule kinda sucks), so i usually try to have a bigger breakfast. but hey, peanut butter is good! so at least you can have something that tastes good for breakfast!
aaand i feel like this ask got away from me. sorry it's so long!
it’s because i have t a s t e. it may not be GOOD taste but it sure is...taste...and i am proud of it. and yes, i love the idea of adding my dressing gown to my costume specifically because it means i’m basically in my PJ’s. minimal effort. comfort to the max. living the dream. halfway through the night i’m tired of being the vampire no one invites in so i drop to my knees and start the mouse act. mice are good at getting in houses and getting to chocolate and such. the dream. also i absolutely would get bored of one costume within the space of a few hours knowing me, so that’s a plus. uhhhh halloween is october which is. mid-late spring so it really depends on the day. it might be a little cold, might be shorts weather. I rarely leave my house at night so I’m not an expert on nighttime temperatures sdflsdfjsd.
I used to wish we did Halloween here but that was mostly because I wanted lollies. Although I also liked playing dress up as a young kid so maybe very young me would’ve vibed with the costume aspect. I know there’s a photo of me when I was like, 5 and my best friend of the time dressed up as witches at some point, maybe we had our own little halloween. I also possibly had a halloween themed birthday party once as a kid? I remember the little gift bags having spooky things in them and also possibly a bat cake but my memory is too bad to remember for sure. aha that’s the problem here too, no one locally would ever think to buy lollies to give out so it’d just be like um. you can have an apple I guess? at least you had fun though! i respect the commitment to the costume despite the cold.
that is such a stressful story to read, i fear for your life. although i understand the knife breaking in that first scenario. that would be terrifying though. what if the blender launched it,,, nOPE. i’m very glad it wasn’t your fingers, that’s some horror movie shit. the second time is just,, it be like that sometimes. it was probably just waiting to happen. my parents have a cheese grater with a loose handle and it. falls off. every time. i dry it. with the dishes. and every time i fear for my life as the grating bit drops off towards my feet as i’m left holding the handle. i should expect it by now but i never do. I get scared every time it happens. knives are definitely out to get us, i fully support this conspiracy theory. oh yeah, tiredness doesn’t help with double vision. i kind of need bifocal glasses by now but I also don’t want bifocal glasses so i just suffer but I suspect having them would reduce the double vision. maybe. maybe not.
yup! i remember someone handing out tampons and pads at primary school, i assume after giving a talk about periods, idk. i do also remember a teacher pulling the girls aside and being like yo, this is what a period is, here’s a horror story about my daughter and a tampon, enjoy the trauma, go back to class. good times. we did actually get really comprehensive sex ed concerning most things at my high school but that is faaaarrr from the norm around here, clearly. although teenage boys are good at filling in gaps, in my experience. they’re like little sex encyclopedias that offer up information without you asking. i didn’t ACTUALLY want to know that but i do now, i guess, thanks michael.
dude. the ‘oh he’s so hot’ comments are so confusing. ‘hot’ is like a category of attractiveness that I’ve never understood. ‘isn’t he hot?’ what does that MEAN rebecca. i think i asked once if it meant like, attractive or good looking. and the person i asked was like, you know, hot. you just look at them and, you know- no i don’t know. what is this. i don’t think i’ve ever watched a sex scene with people my age though, generally i just zone out for them sdkfhskdfh. i feel like there’s definitely all these indicators when you look back like oh yeah, should’ve realised i was ace then, but it’s just. such a hard sexuality to figure out. not that other sexualities aren’t but you’ve got to figure out an absence of something when you don’t even know what the something feels like- it’s a challenge.
I’m glad it did! It is interesting, for sure. I’ve always been interested in how winter Christmas’s work. As a young kid I didn’t understand hemispheres...obviously...i was like 5...and i’d go out on Christmas morning to see if there was snow. and sometimes it’d be a bit chilly in the morning and I’d be like damn. we almost had some this year. it’s a shame our climate tends to be too hot for snow on christmas :// like no you tiny dumbass it’s summer you little idiot there will be no snow no matter what. everything ended up going super well here :). boxing day is basically just a shopping holiday, i don’t know if it has any significance in any other way, i’m sure it did at one point, but i know there’s always boxing day sales everywhere. I think it’s also a public holiday (?) to give people another day off work and that, but I could be wrong there. I know I also used to regularly go to the races (horse races) nearby that were always held on boxing day, it was like a 150 year old tradition or something until people in attendance started dropping and I think they finally shut it down a couple years back. I didn’t care all that much about the horses but they also had food and carnival-type rides and such for the kids which is why I loved it. also we tended to meet extended family there for a picnic lunch.
acid reflux is like the least of my problems sdfkjshdkf. it’s annoying but it’s pretty managed with medication, I have to watch certain foods and drinks but I’m used to it by now. I think it’s also what causes me to not be able to eat large amounts normally so I survive a lot on snacks and a reasonable sized dinner. works for me. but peanut butter is good! i’m glad i can have that! I used to also have vegemite but that’s a bit more of a push, it’s easier to stick with peanut butter.
also it’s fine!! my responses are always very long too sdfjhskdf.
#i got told i probably needed bifocals like#at LEAST 2 years ago#probably more#but realistically i'm probably too dumb to use them correctly i wouldn't look in the right place for close vision or whatever#i'd probably give myself a headache#also to this day i have never gone NEAR a tampon#the horror story gave me enough trauma thanks#anyway gonna go eat an ice cream sundae and suffer#might fuck around and make my lactose intolerance hate me haha#it'll be WORTH it#i say now#in an hour i'll be dying#it's fine#Anonymous

Some stuff that made me happy in 2020, in no particular order
God send you no greater loss. It’s something my grandmother said a lot — a bit of highly Irish Catholic wisdom intended to remind you, warmly but sharply, that whatever you’re currently suffering through isn’t all that bad compared to what lots of other people are dealing with. That it probably isn’t too much to complain about, in the grand scheme of things. That you should, instead, be grateful for what you’ve got, big and small and everything in between.
God sent a great many people a great many unfathomable losses this year, and as hard as it felt at times, our family wasn’t among them; we’re lucky, in the big picture. In the past, people have recommended I try writing those reasons down, to give myself a list of stuff to be thankful for, for the times it’s tough to summon up the gratitude. I figured the end of the year was as good a time as any to make that list, to highlight the stuff that helped me get through this year — the reasons big, small, and in between.
So: here goes.
Peanut butter and jelly
I haven’t counted how many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches I’ve eaten since March 11, which is good, because that would be an absurd thing to do, and a sure sign that I have succumbed to a very specific kind of madness. It’s also good, though, because I would undoubtedly be ashamed by the number; the figure would be titanic, like the unsinkable ship of same name, or the iceberg that sunk it.
Or, at least, I would be ashamed under normal circumstances. This fuckin’ year required whatever flotation device you could find, and you know what I found in the fridge and cupboard? A couple of slices of bread, some strawberry jam, and some goddamn Skippy.
Need a weird mid-morning “brunch” after not having breakfast because you went right from waking up to remote school with the 6-year-old? Crank up a PB&J with that third cup of coffee. Need to pack something in the diaper bag to feed everyone while you’re out at the playground for the afternoon? Stack ‘em up, son. Need a late snack after working the overnight shift filing weird bubble playoff columns? Three letters, one ampersand, one love.
I need to eat better in 2021. But I kind of needed to eat sort of like shit to get through 2020, and time and again, when your man needed it most, PB&J was there.
Sunday night Zoom sessions with college friends
I know that most of us started something like this back in March; I’m not sure how many have stuck with it. I hope the answer is “a lot,” because honestly, knowing that I’m going to end the week by seeing a few friends — some here in Brooklyn but mostly beyond our reach for safety’s sake, some who’ve moved away — has felt like a stabilizing agent on more than a few occasions. It’s important, and no small blessing, to have people in your life who really know you, weird messy ugly bits and all, and in front of whom you can let everything go.
That gallery view’s provided a place to vent, to seethe, to laugh, to cry, and to try to find some semblance of center before heading back into another week. I’m grateful for it, and for the people in those little boxes. Except for the time they reminded me that, when I was 18, I was pretty sure I was a Pacey, and they were all extremely confident I was a Dawson. They were right, but still: a bitter pill to swallow, then and now.
Olivia calling herself “Dr. Bloody”
She took out her little toy doctor kit and just turned into a cackling villain.

Deeply disconcerting, yes, but also adorable.
All Fantasy Everything
What got me in the door was the conceit: three very funny stand-up comedians (Ian Karmel, David Gborie, Sean Jordan), often with a very funny guest but sometimes without, pick some topic or another and engage in a fantasy draft of their favorite aspects or representations of that topic. (It is, crucially, a serpentine draft. Now what is that? That’s a great question.) Some favorite examples: Mikes; Words That You Think Make You Sound Smart, vols. 1 and 2; Things You Yell After You Dunk on Someone; Fictional Athletes; Crimes We’d Like to Commit. Yeah. It’s that kind of podcast.
What kept me around was the friendship. Listen to an episode and it becomes really clear really quickly just how much the three hosts love each other, how much fun they have being around each other and making one another laugh. The warmth radiates, just pours out of the speakers; in a year where I sorely needed some good vibes, I appreciated my regular check-ins with the Good Vibes Gang to just ... unclench for an hour and a half or so.
Drinking beer
OK, I’ll admit: This doesn’t sound great for me. It’s true, though. I really like beer. (We brewed one in our kitchen, which I realize is something of a “bearded guy in Brooklyn” cliche, but here we are. It was exciting to complete a project, and it tasted OK-ish.) At some points this year, it didn’t feel like there wasn’t much to look forward to, and sometimes drinking some High Lifes or Narragansett tall boys — with my wife in our living room, with friends on the computer, whatever — helped take the edge off a shitty day/week/month/year. I look forward to being able to do that outside with people again.
The Good Place
I am sure some very smart cultural critics and political thinkers and social revolutionaries have forwarded compelling arguments for why this show is Bad, Actually, because that seems to be more or less true about most things, whether because said thing is Actually Bad or because the economics of the attention economy on the internet functionally necessitate the composition and publication of pretty much every position on pretty much every issue, and especially ones that present a counterargument for why you shouldn’t like the thing you like, and might be kind of a piece of shit for liking it. But I liked this half-hour comedy about the way the universe might be put together, why we should try to take better care of each other, and how doing so might be a pretty great way to take better care of ourselves.
Andrew let me write about it a little bit for a big project we did before the series finale aired, which was really nice of him. I found myself thinking about this part a lot this year:
I also thought a lot about Peeps Chili, but that happens every year.
Taking pictures of my dog
Check out this flumpy goddamn champion:
“Lugar is a good boy” is the main takeaway here. They don’t all have to be complicated.
Schitt’s Creek
I know we’re not alone in this, but we inhaled this show this year. A half-hour comedy about people being laid low, learning how to deal with who they actually are, and finding some grace and community and opportunities for growth kind of hit the spot, I guess.
One of the most wholesale enjoyable ensemble comedy casts I can remember; Catherine O’Hara was already in Cooperstown, but what she made with Moira Rose only polishes her plaque. I’ll never be able to describe with any specificity the thing Chris Elliott does, but I know it has made me laugh since I was a child too young to understand the Letterman bits or see Cabin Boy in the theater, and it’s probably going to make me laugh until I am dead.
I love that people who, for years, never got to see themselves or people like them on screen got to see David Rose on screen and maybe recognize themselves a little bit. The idea that seeing the David/Patrick relationship might make them maybe feel a little more at home, a little safer and more whole, makes me happy. Sad, about the before, but happy, about the now and the what comes next.
Past that, I just love how what was ostensibly a family-and-friends production for a Canadian channel just got absolutely everything right—the tone, the look, the sound, the theme song, the cast, the jokes, my goodness, the jokes—and before long, the rest of the world just got it. Like catching a fastball square on the barrel. Something the show clearly knew a little bit about.
Finding new outdoor places it was safe to go
Necessity is the mother of invention, and the need to give the kids a place to be that wasn’t unnecessarily dangerous but also wasn’t inside our two-bedroom apartment led us to do more exploring than we had before. Shirley Chisholm State Park is great. Canarsie Pier was a fun place to spend a Sunday morning; so’s Canarsie Playground. If we got there early enough or made our peace with some rain, the beaches at Jacob Riis Park and Fort Tilden were pretty rad this summer. I lived in Staten Island from ages 8 through 18, and during breaks throughout college, and don’t think I ever hiked in High Rock Park — that’s dumb, because it was nice!
Even if all those little excursions did was kill a little time and reduce the overall stress level of the four humans stuck in our four walls, that’s not nothing. Some days this year, it was everything.
Cobra Kai
I know I’m late here; I didn’t rush to seek it out because I don’t consider myself a huge fan of The Karate Kid, or at least not a big enough fan to sign up for YouTube’s premium service. I checked it out when it came to Netflix, though, and I honestly can’t believe how much I enjoyed this show. Give me “dumb, but with heart” every day of the week.
I believe in Miguel Diaz; I believe in Johnny Lawrence; I believe I will be firing up Season 3 next month, and perhaps drinking some Coors Banquets in its honor. (I cannot, however, believe how the “get him a body bag” thing came back around, but that’s neither here nor there.)
Closing unread tabs
I’m a serial hoarder of links, and I am bad at finishing all of them. I’ve tried to get into Pocket and Instapaper, but I’ve never been able to turn that sort of workflow — open link, save to third-party service, go back to third-party service later to read, then delete from there — into something that felt instinctual, natural, or habitual. So: lots of tabs. Like, lots of tabs.
This was a dicier proposition than usual in 2020, because cutting my work week in half to be able to more effectively coparent two kids who didn’t have school or day care for most of the year meant less time to read things.
I tried to do my best to keep up with the important stuff for work, and to read at least some stuff about how other parents were dealing with their anxiety/anger/depression/frustration at having to be on 24/7 and work, and to stay abreast of (at least some of) what was happening in the world. Sometimes, though, I would wake up and realize I’d been holding onto blog posts about Really Interesting Rotation Decisions on the 11th-Seeded Team in the East or whatever for literally nine months, and I would go against my nature and just hit the eject button on a 25-deep window, and something amazing would happen: I wouldn’t get fired for being shitty at my job. I would move on with my day, and I would feel about 10 pounds lighter.
I still keep too much stuff open. (As we speak, I’ve got three different Chrome windows open on two different laptops. I choose not to count the total tabs.) But I do so knowing that, if it gets too heavy, I can experience the momentary joy of surrendering to the inevitability that I can’t catch everything. In that moment, I feel OK with my decay.
Reading writers I wasn’t familiar with before
Two in particular stand out in my mind: Nekias Duncan, now of BasketballNews.com, who does excellent film breakdowns and statistical analysis, and Katie Heindl, who writes basketball stuff of all types all over the place, and strings sentences together in a way that scratches an itch inside my brain. I’m grateful I got more chances to read them this year, I look forward to bigger and better things for both of them, and I’m hopeful that, if things calm down and our schedules go back to something approximating normalcy, I’ll have more bandwidth to hunt out more new voices in the year ahead.
The time I ambushed my wife as she was trying to break down and put away the girls’ space tent
Pretty good.
Siobhan learning to ride a bicycle (with training wheels, but still)
The moment passed pretty quickly; Not Exactly A Mechanic over here can’t get the training wheels to reliably work right without either loosening them too much or tightening them so much that she can’t pedal it. In that first moment, though, and for as long as it lasted, it was really great to see her get excited about doing something new, big kid shit, for the first time.
youtube
She was proud. I was proud of her. And then we went to a playground for a few hours. Pretty good day.
Tyler Tynes roasting me
Tyler did some incredible work this year — The Cam Chronicles is getting deserved praise as one of 2020′s best podcasts, and his reporting on the Movement for Black Lives was exemplary. It’s hard to top this, though:
You know what the messed up part is? I was excited to tell him what I was doing, just because I knew the reaction would be so violent. Like a body rejecting a transplant. So lucky to have such a dear, dear friend.
PUP
I’m late on everything, so I didn’t start listening to PUP until the spring of 2019, but I haven’t really stopped since. This year has been too sedentary too often; this band is too kinetic to allow me to stay there.
youtube
“Bloody Mary Kate and Ashley Kate” is never more than about 20 minutes away from returning to the front of my mind. I would fucking love for it to be safe enough to watch these guys live at some point, and I am absolutely going to take Steve up on his offer.

My wife works in Manhattan and commutes back on the train, and we've tried to prioritize getting the girls to bed early since they were little, so that doesn’t leave much of a window between when she gets home and they go in the tub for us all to connect; before everything shut down, we almost never really ate together. We’re still not great about it, but for a while now we’ve carved out Saturday as family dinner night, where we sit down to eat and talk about our “up” from the day — something that happened that made us feel good or happy, or something we’re looking forward to. (We used to talk about our “down,” too, but that kind of seemed like overkill. Why try to focus on more bad shit right now, you know?)
Then we settle in for a movie, with who gets to pick rotating each week. It’s mostly been Pixar, which has been great but also has its drawbacks; after she caught me crying during one of them (maybe the Bing-Bong scene in Inside Out? or Miguel singing to Grandma Coco?), Siobhan straight up told me, “You need to get yourself together, man.” We just watched My Neighbor Totoro, too, which they loved, so we’re probably going to try some more Miyazaki soon. It’s a really simple thing, but it’s one we rarely made time for before, and it’s been really nice to manufacture something positive that we can share and look forward to together.
Sometimes looking like a shiftless drifter
No shade to anyone who felt strongly about getting a lineup or whatever, but I haven’t really felt like going to the barbershop was worth the risk, and I continue to refuse to believe that my wife can actually pull off the fade she’s long wanted to give me. (It is also possible that she just means she’s intending to run my fade, and that I will before long wind up cold-cocked and slumped by my bride of nine years.) So I’ve just kind of been growing out my hair like it was when I was single, and sometimes been letting my beard get kind of out of control too, and, well, I sort of like looking a little bit like a Wildling, it turns out.
I have since trimmed things up a little. It didn’t go over well with my youngest. Oh, well. I’ll try to do better next time.

We don’t know all the words to too many lullabies, so we sing the ones we do know the words to. This will probably come back to bite us in the years ahead. For now, though: Pretty good.
Doughboys’ Tournament of Chompions: Munch Madness: Mac Attack
I can’t believe how invested I became in Nick Wiger and Mike Mitchell’s quest to determine the best menu item at McDonald’s in a 64-seed tournament that spawned hours and hours of delightfully funny audio featuring all-time home-run guests like Jon Gabrus and Nicole Byer, who gleefully feed into the often warm, sometimes antagonistic, always entertaining chemistry between the two hosts. I have also never found myself wanting to go to McDonald’s more in my entire life. I have hit the drive-thru a couple of times since, and the boys are right: The McDonald’s fountain Coke does just hit different.
Sound Only
I’ve lost track of whether or not a 38-year-old is considered a millennial, but I’m quite confident that I’m not exactly plugged into “the millennial lifestyle” as my teammates Justin Charity and Micah Peters discuss it on their podcast, which relaunched this summer. Doesn’t matter, though, because I love hearing Charity and Micah talk to each other even if I don’t know what they’re talking about.
Their conversation about Dave Chappelle was great. After listening to their Travis Scott episode, I felt like I kind of understood who he is and why he occupies the space he does in pop culture now. I had no idea how they were going to get me to give a shit about set photos from The Batman, but this they not only got me there, but wended their way toward blaming 50 Cent for needing to know who Groot is to have a conversation on the internet, which is something for which Abraham Lincoln did not die. The show is good, it's getting better, it’s fun to hear them talk their shit, and Charity’s regular bellowing of “I, TOO, AM AMERICA” has made me smile for four straight months.
Siobhan’s letters and notes
She’s in first grade now, and she’s taken to communicating her feelings through the written word. A lot.
I won’t pretend that I loved all of these in the moment. I can only get so upset, though, when she’s already writing with such a clear voice. (And trying to use proper punctuation. (And drawing little cartoons to drive the point home.)
Palm Springs
I’m having a hard time remembering too many specifics about it right now, which probably means it’d be a good thing to rewatch over the holidays. But, as I’m sure many people noted many months before we got around to watching it, a comedy about living the same day over and over again, and about trying to figure out how to make your life mean something when everything seems meaningless, scratched a pretty particular, and particularly important, itch this year. It could’ve been twice as long, and I would’ve eaten up every second of Andy Samberg and Cristin Miloti together.
I’m pretty sure I cried, although this year, that doesn’t necessarily mean much. Also, put Conner O’Malley in more things.
Joining our union’s bargaining committee
I won’t say too much about this, but I will say that becoming an active participant in the process of a labor union negotiating its first contract with management has been an extremely educational experience. It’s pushed me to have conversations, sometimes difficult ones, about our priorities as a staff and a company. It's helped me get closer with the other past and present members of the BC, and has led me to start developing relationships with members of our staff that I otherwise might not have had much of an opportunity to get to know.
The organizing work takes time, effort, and energy, but trying to do what I can to help take better care of my colleagues has been well worth all of that. Here’s hoping that in 2021 we can reach a deal that helps make our workplace even better, stronger, and more equitable for all of us.
Publishing a story about Stevie Nicks’ Fajita Roundup
I swear this is true: After I accepted my offer to work at The Ringer, but before I started, I told a friend that one thing I was excited about was that you had the chance to work on offbeat stuff here, in both the “kind of weird” and “not about the NBA” senses. That, I thought, might maybe open the door to me getting to write a story about a Saturday Night Live sketch I saw when I was a teenager about Stevie Nicks from Fleetwod Mac running a cheap Tex-Mex restaurant in Sedona, Arizona — a sketch that I wasn’t sure anyone else remembered, but that was stuck in my head forever.
That story ran on May 26.
A lot of people seemed to like it.
Accomplishing this goal was, as dumb as this might sound, a highlight of my year, and, honestly, a highlight of my career. I’d like to do some more stuff like this next year, time permitting; we’ll see. Whether or not I do, I got to do this. I’ll always have that.

You ever played Call Of Duty? Did you like it? Are you into those types of video games at all? Nah, I was never into those types of video games.
Do you like to cook for people, or do you order to be cooked for? Has anyone ever told you that you were a good cook? Well, I don’t cook except for ramen and that’s just for myself cause my family doesn’t really eat that. My parents and brother are awesome cooks, though, so I get to enjoy what they make.
Do you have any clocks in your house that chime when the hour changes? Do those types of clocks annoy you? We have one in the living room that makes bird noises, ha. We’ve had it since I was a kid.
Has anyone ever let you borrow some of their music, promising you'd love it, but you really didn't? Did you lie to the person and agree, or tell the truth, that you hated it? I’ve had people suggest music to me that I should listen to and I’d be like like, ‘okay, cool I’ll definitely check it out’, but then didn’t. :X haha. Not all the time, but yeah. I’m just lazy. Anyway, I’ve been suggested good music that I liked and others not so much. If I didn’t like it I wasn’t mean about it, I probably said it just wasn’t my vibe or found something nice to say about it like the singer had a nice voice or a lyric that stood out.
What is your usual hair style? Do you tend to wear the same style every day, or do you switch it up a lot? I just throw it up in a messy bun cause I don’t have the energy or motivation to do anything else with it.
Have you had the same doctor pretty much your whole life, or have you went to a bunch of different ones over the years? Have you ever been to the doctor thinking something was horribly wrong with you, but it turned out to be something minor? I had a primary doctor that took care of everything from the time I was a baby to when I turned 21, which was the age limit for that doctor, sadly. I found another primary doctor and I’ve been seeing him ever since. I’ve seen several other types of doctors as well throughout the years. I’ve had to bounce around to a few different pain doctors, but one I’ve had now I’ve been seeing for almost 3 years. Another regular doctor I see that’s been managing something else I have I’ve been seeing for the past few years and I’ve been to them in the past as well.
Do you prefer to go out to get ice cream, or do you just like to get the kind you keep in your freezer? What flavor do you usually get? I’m not a big ice cream person, but I’d say having it at home cause it’s more convenient and I can have as much as I want whenever I want. Going out for ice cream sometimes can be nice as well. I haven’t done that in years or even had any ice cream at all in awhile, though. Anyway, I like strawberry, mint chocolate chip, birthday cake, or peanut butter cup.
Do you look forward to the holidays, or do you dread them? What holiday is your least favorite, and why? I love the holidays. I especially look forward to Christmas.
Is the background on your phone a default picture, or a picture you took? What is the picture of? My lock screen and home screen are different hearts/Valentine’s Day themed backgrounds. I like to change up my backgrounds and if there’s a holiday then I’ll likely do something for that.
What is your favorite type of print (ex: zebra, stripes, argyle)? Do you have a lot of things with this print on it? Plaid. I don’t have a lot of things with plaid anymore, though, just a couple throw pillows and a pair of leggings.
Are there any stores you feel uncomfortable going into (ex: if you dress girly, do you feel uncomfortable going into Hot Topic)? Are there any stores that you refuse, or just never go in to? Sex shops, ha. I’ve been to one once because my friend wanted to go to one for her 18th birthday, but I’ve had no interest in going for myself. Otherwise, I just don’t go into a store because it’s not of interest to me or I have no need to, not because I feel uncomfortable.
Do you look in mirrors a lot, or do you try to avoid them? How many mirrors are in your house? I avoid looking into mirrors as much as possible and spend as little time as possible doing so when I need to. There’s a few mirrors in the house.
What is your favorite brand of clothing? Is this a brand that is sort of expensive, or is it pretty affordable? I really like Adidas clothing and shoes. Most of my clothes come from Boxlunch and Hot Topic, though.
What person do you text the most? My mom or brother.
Do you have any pictures that always make you laugh, or cry? Are they digital pictures, or printed pictures? What is the significance? Uhh, like funny or relatable memes I come across online.
What are you listening to? An ASMR video.
What were you doing at 4am? I had just finished eating my ramen.
What’s your favorite cereal? Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Life, Honey Nut Cheerios, Frosted Cheerios, Frosted Flakes, Lucky Charms, Froot Loops, Cap’n Crunch Berries, Cocoa Puffs... all the sugary ones, basically. Damn, I haven’t had cereal in so long that sounds good.
What’s the last thing you drank? Starbucks Doubleshot energy drink.
Where is your biological mother right now? She’s in bed, asleep.
Where is your biological father right now? He’s up getting ready for work.
What’s your mood? Right now I’m just tired.
Are you doing anything tomorrow? Nothing out of the ordinary.
Do you cry a lot? Yes.
Have you recently? Yes.
What’s your favorite candy? White chocolate and Reese’s, which they have a white chocolate version of as well, so hey.
Have you ever eaten raw pumpkin? Ew, no.
Does your car have a name? I don’t have a car.
Will you be in bed within twenty minutes? I am in bed. As for if I’ll be asleep, probably not yet.
Who did you sleep with last night? Myself, as always.
Wearing any bracelets? Nope.
What is your favorite color? Pastels, rose gold, sea foam green, coral, and yellow.
What should you be doing right now? Sleeping; it’s almost 7AM.
How much older is the person you’re currently interested in? I’m not interested in anyone in that way currently.
Remember the first time you kissed the last person you kissed? I do.
Have your parents ever caught you drinking? I didn’t drink until I was 21, so.
Do you love the last boy/girl you were talking to? Yes.
Did you have an exciting last weekend? No.
Is there a secret you’ve never told your parents? Yes.
Have you ever flirted with a friend’s crush? No.
Did you have a good birthday this year? I haven’t had my birthday, yet.
Do you lead people on? No.
Who was the last person you made plans with? I made plans to watch a TV show with my mom, ha. That’s about the only plans I make these days or about getting something for takeout.
What is the rudest thing someone has done recently towards you? i can't think of anything right now. which is good. <<<
When was the last time someone really got on your nerves? No one recently.
Have you recently lost any clothes? No.
What places will you be going tomorrow? I won’t be going anywhere.
When is the next time you will kiss someone? I have no idea.
How do you feel about your hair right now? It reallyyyy needs to be dyed.
How fast have you driven a car? I’ve never driven a car.
Have you ever smoked? Just weed.
Is the last person you kissed your other half? No.
Do you think this year is better than the last? It’s only February. We all know how awful 2020 was and we’re still going through it, but we’ll have to see how the rest of the year goes...
Where is the last person you kissed at this moment? I have no idea.
Has anyone seen you in your underwear this past month? Nope.
Would you rather marry Taylor Lautner, or take a million dollars? Give me the million, please.
Do you really believe in forever? Yeah.
What are you doing after this? I should go to sleep.
Someone says “all guys are players” You say? "generalizations are stupid." <<<
Are you an official couple with the last person you kissed? Nope. We never were.
Do you believe in kissing when you’re not together yet? Joseph and I did that for 3 years. I wouldn’t do that now, though. I’m in my 30s and if I date then I want a serious, committed relationship. I’m not looking for flings or to play games. Like, I’ll be upfront with the person and want to know where we stand and what’s going on before we carry on.
How serious are your feelings for the person you like? I don’t like anyone currently.
Do you live close to the person you like? --

Title: Lego Butterflies
Summary: Tweek is so excited to join a lego house contest with his friends Jimmy and Timmy. Nothing could ruin his day! Except maybe Nathan and his schemes of revenge against Jimmy!
Rating: G
Ships: Mentioned Creek.
Other: For @tweekweek, day 2 Talent. I have no idea if this Red Cross idea would even work but you know what, it's just a setting and conflict set up sooo..... *shrug*
Also, disclaimer, I didn't have time to do as much research as ASL as I should have, so the wording of Timmy's dialog isn't perfect, and I apologize. :(
Read on Ao3
---
Tweek bounced in his seat, a goofy smile on his face. The weekend didn’t come fast enough. Since Wednesday, Tweek hopped into bed early in an attempt to force time to move its butt along so Saturday’s event could finally happen.
Jimmy sat to his left and Timmy to his right. They shared his excitement.
Jimmy was the one who brought Tweek the flyer, shoving it under his nose during recess.
"The South Park Red Cross's first annual building contest: An event for children thirteen and under to show off their building skills and have fun!" The flyer proclaimed in Comic Sans font. "Come by and bring your kids for a lego brick contest with plenty of wonderful prizes for the best entries. Lunch and dinner will be provided. starts at 10 am ends at 6 pm. 5 dollar entry fee with be required in advance. For more information call the South Park Red Cross office or email us at SPRedCross@zmail. net."
Jimmy explained that it was a creative competition where a group of up to three kids are given a lego kit and had the day to make the building, but with their own creative twist on it. The first prize winners received gift cards to the local Dairy Queen.
Tweek didn't care about the prize. He was just excited to build with his friends and have fun. He didn't even expect to win, but Jimmy proclaimed he knew they would since Tweek was so amazing at building with legos.
"You have one of your builds on display at the library!" Jimmy reminded. "The one that looks like a b-b-bo-boat? You're a natural. We'll win for sure."
His parents donated his boat to the library without his permission last summer. Though Tweek had planned to recycle the bricks into another project, he couldn’t help but feel pride every time he saw his name on that piece of card stock in the shiny display case.
Tweek looked around the Red Cross building at the other tables. He knew some of the other kids here, but most were younger than him and he couldn't put a name to a face. He knew two of the kindergarteners in the corner. Kyle Broflovski's little brother and the youngest member of the goth kids looked less than thrilled to be there as their parents chatted a few feet away.
Kenny and his little sister and older brother on the other side of the room, Karen speaking animatedly and Kenny nodding along while their brother had a chair pulled to the wall and dozed.
Some girls from his class chatted near the door. A few kids from the special education class that Tweek didn't know waved to Jimmy as they walked in.
"Oh my Gosh!" Jimmy beamed. "There sure is a really big crowd out tonight, huh?"
"Yeah, this might be a fun competition," Tweek agreed.
"Of course, it will be." Jimmy leaned over and picked up his bag from beside him. He unzipped it before taking out some peanut butter crackers and juice boxes. "My mom packed me these, but we're being fed lunch, so I thought we could have them as a pre-build s-s-snack."
Timmy nodded, reaching in front of Tweek for a pack of crackers. His fingers wrapped around a juice box, only for his nose to wrinkle up in disgust when he read the flavor. He tossed the juice box back before snatching up a different one.
Jimmy cocked his head to the side to read the flavor. He stuck his tongue out.
"I a-agree with you there, Tim Tim." Jimmy faked a gag. "Kiwi-Orange is the w-worst flavor. I keep asking mom not to buy this kind, but she a-al-always forgets."
Tweek's mom buys the same brand, and he knew its store-brand juice and the cheapest available at the local market, but he didn’t point that out. Instead, he took the Kiwi-Orange for himself, leaving Jimmy with Peach.
Of the Tropical Explosion flavors, Kiwi-Orange tasted best to him. It was tangy with just the right amount of kiwi. He didn't understand how anyone couldn't love it.
"Well, well, well," A snide voice intoned, "look what the cat dragged in."
Nathan marched up to their table with Mimsy right behind him like a giant shadow. Nathan set his palms on the tabletop and leaned forward a little too far into their space.
"Oh! Hello there, Nathan!" Jimmy chirped, completely unfazed by how close Nathan's tinted aviator glasses were to his face. "You too, M-Mimsy. Good morning!"
"Heya, fellas," Mimsy replied with a wave.
"So, what brings you two here? Jimmy? Timmy? Are you here for the contest?" Nathan nodded to the front of the room where the adults from the Red Cross were pulling out craft supplies from some boxes.
"We s-s-sure are." Jimmy wrapped his arm around Tweek. "Tim Tim, me, and Tweek here are all one group. Isn't that gr-great? Too bad we can't have a group of five, though. You and Mimsy would make great additions to our t-t-team."
Nathan scrunched up his nose like he just stepped on a wet turd with bare feet.
"Oh," he gave Tweek a hard look over the top of his glasses, "really?"
Out of the corner of his eye, Tweek watched Timmy grip his crackers so hard, they crumbled in the wrapper. He glared at Nathan as if daring him to say something.
If Nathan saw, he didn't respond. Instead, he shrugged and stepped away.
"Good luck, there, Jimmy, Timmy...Tweek."
Tweek shuddered at how Nathan said his name. It reminded him a little too much of a cartoon super-villain with a long mustache about to capture the hero with a complicated contraption.
Timmy must not have like how his name was said either since he flipped Nathan off behind his back. Jimmy, on the other hand, seemed unphased completely.
"Good luck to you, too! I know we'll all do f-f-f-fantastic!" Jimmy encouraged. Nathan scowled as he turned around and went to another table.
Mimsy almost followed him, when he paused, taking a look at the box of juice in Tweek's hand.
"Is that Kiwi-Orange? Oh, boy, it's my favorite flavor. Do they have some here?" Mimsy grinned.
"Really?" Timmy signed, sticking out his tongue.
Tweek smiled back at him. "It's my favorite, too. It's yummy."
Jimmy looked into his bag. "Ah, darn, sorry, Mimsy. Mom only packed enough for my team. Maybe I can bring you some at school on Monday."
Mimsy's face fell. For someone with a large and imposing a frame as Mimsy, when he got disappointed, he looked no more threatening than an upset puppy.
Tweek offered his unopened box. "Here, you can have mine. I brought my own drink." With his free hand, he lifted his ever-present thermos from between his feet, still warm with the mid-morning’s coffee.
Mimsy's eyes grew wide. His mouth went slack as he took the juice. "Really? You'd give me the best flavor? Just like that? No fight or nothin'?" Mimsy stared down at the juice box as if Tweek just handed him the Hope Diamond to keep.
"Uh-huh. I'm ok with it, if you don't mind, Jimmy." He turned a questioning look to him.
Jimmy shook his head. "No, it's fine. Our teachers always tell us sharing makes for the b-best friendships."
"Good, there you go, Mimsy. Good luck. I hope you have lots of fun today." Tweek smiled again.
He didn't know Mimsy well, other than he hung around with Nathan all the time, but he didn't have anything against him. Mimsy seemed like a nice kid. He didn’t give bad vibes, unlike Nathan.
Mimsy looked at the box, then at Tweek, and blushed. "Golly, that's swell of you. Thanks a lot, Tweek." He giggled as if Tweek just told him a silly riddle before making a beeline for Nathan.
After the three finished their juice--or coffee in Tweek's case--and crackers, Jimmy gathered up the trash and took it to the trash can before heading to use the restroom.
Once Jimmy was out of earshot, Tweek turned to Timmy with a frown.
"Are you alright? You seem...uh..." he gestured to the crumbs covering Timmy's shirt, "upset? Is this about Nathan?"
Timmy brushed the crumbs off with his face set in a scowl. He looked around before leaning in close.
"Do not trust Nathan," he whispered, keeping his hand movement small and close to his body.
"Why?" Tweek covered his mouth with the side of his hand. Nathan and Mimsy sat across the room, so they couldn't hear him but better safe than sorry.
"He is a dickhead." Timmy cringed. "Jimmy is too stupid to understand Nathan hates him."
"He hates him? Jimmy sure seems to think they’re friends." Tweek frowned.
"He is clueless!" Timmy rolled his eyes. "Nathan hates him. He tries to trick him all the time or get him in trouble."
At Tweek's raised eyebrow, Timmy went on to explain some of his experiences with Nathan that ranged from switching out Jimmy's pencils with colored ones for tests and tripping in him in the lunch line to dumping soda in his backpack and spreading rumors.
When Timmy started to explain something that happened during summer camp, he started moving his hands so fast in his anger that Tweek couldn't understand him.
"Alright, alright, I get it! Nathan is a huge dick." Tweek grabbed Timmy's wrists when he was in the middle of signing what Tweek thought was 'Space-Racist.'
Timmy pulled his hands to his lap. "Be careful today," he warned, leaning over to shoot Nathan a glare.
Tweek peeked over his shoulder. Nathan had his head turned, so he didn't see Timmy's glower. Instead, his gaze was fixed on Jimmy, who was speaking with some girls at a nearby table. His hands balled into shaking fists.
Tweek snapped his head forward. His stomach twisted into knots. Timmy was right. They had to be super careful today.
---
Jimmy, that asshole, flirting with those girls right in front of him! He was just doing it to rub it in his face that, for some reason completely unknown to Nathan, the girls seemed to like him.
He didn't understand what anyone saw in Jimmy. Nathan was much more handsome and charismatic than Jimmy could ever be!
But the girls tittered and fawned over him like he was the best thing since sliced bread!
Nathan gripped his hands into fists.
"Mimsy, we're going to win those gift cards," He growled. "Even if I have to smash their entry myself."
Mimsy looked up from the empty juice box in his hands. He had been staring at it like a dolt since he finished sucking it dry. What was the big deal? It was just a juice box. It wasn't even a good flavor. Only some weirdo like Mimsy would like Kiwi-Orange.
"Ah, I dunno, Boss," Mimsy fingered the box, "maybe we should just try our best to win on our own. We don't gotta cheat."
"Don't you see, Mimsy? Jimmy is cheating! Us cheating would even the odds." Nathan waved his hand towards them. "He brought that Tweek kid with them to help."
"What's wrong with Tweek?" Mimsy's voice pitched up when he said Tweek's name. A small blush grew across his cheeks, eyes drifting down to the juice box.
Nathan pinched the bridge of his nose. "He's an expert with legos, Mimsy! He has something he made shown off at the library! How is that fair to the rest of us?"
Mimsy craned his head around the room a moment. "Well, why don't we ask Colette." He pointed towards her. "She has a lego project displayed at the library too, and it looks like she's all by herself. We can ask her to join us!"
Nathan winced. "Hell no. She's ugly. I don't want an ugly girl on my team." He was trying to win the gift cards so he could get pretty girls. Girls love free chocolate-dipped cones. He would have a whole bunch of girls clambering for his attention when he won those gift cards. Then Jimmy would cry like a baby now that the girls saw who the real man around was.
Mimsy cocked his head to the side. "Well, Boss, maybe you should put your misogyny and bias against women aside this one time and work towards your goal so we can win honestly and you can take real pride in your win."
Nathan stared dumbfounded at Mimsy. Where did Mimsy get these ideas? Probably some dumb cartoon or something.
"Mimsy, shut up."
Mimsy turned his attention back to his juice box with a shrug. "Ok, boss."
---
The rules for the competition where simple: build the lego house from a kit and decorate it with the supplies from the craft table.
The house kit was a simple model, only twenty bricks high with four window pieces and a door piece and a premade slanted roof.
Even if Tweek hadn’t built it before, it was an easy task. He took up the job of putting it together while Jimmy and Timmy gathered supplies and refined the plan.
They had decided to turn their project into a gingerbread house with lollipop trees and candy stuck to the roof. They would use paint to add icing accents and cotton balls as cotton candy lining the outside like bushes.
As Timmy wrapped cellophane plastic around foam balls to make hard candy and Jimmy used a marker to color the cotton, Tweek stood to stretch.
"I'm going to the restroom. Be right back."
Timmy grabbed his sleeve, holding up a sheet of cellophane.
"Get blue," He told him before lowering his head back to his work.
Once Tweek finished his business, he stood over the craft table shifting through the mess of stickers and papers for a blue sheet of cellophane. Most of the stickers had a faint yellow tinge to them and several of the sets of markers were missing colors. If Tweek had to guess, he would say a lot of the supplies were donated from a granny’s leftover scrapbooking supplies.
Tweek glanced over his shoulder at a nearby team’s house kit box. Given how yellowed it was, maybe more than just the stickers came from someone’s backroom.
He set some brown felt aside before a flash of shiny, translucent blue caught his eye.
With a noise of satisfaction, he reached for it, only for another hand to grab it at the same time.
Tweek looked up and met eyes with Nathan himself.
"I saw it first," Nathan snapped, snatching the cellophane.
"We need it for ours," Tweek countered.
All of Timmy's stories played through his head. He needed to be very careful with what he said. Jimmy might be optimistically oblivious enough to overlook Nathan's malice acts, but Tweek sure as heck wasn't.
Nathan attempted to reply, but Mimsy stepped behind him and cut him off.
"Heya, Tweek!" He swung his hands side to side. "Gosh, isn't this fun? We's nearly finished half our house. It's going to be a summer house with a pool and palm trees and--"
Nathan shoved a sheet of craft felt into his mouth.
"Shut up, Mimsy! Don't tell our enemies the plan." He glared over the top of his glasses at Tweek. "He might steal our ideas."
"We don't need your ideas." Tweek reached across the table for the corner of the felt in Mimsy's mouth. He pulled it out then pushed it into Nathan's hands, making sure that the part covered in spit touched his skin.
Nathan dropped everything in his arms back on the table with a yelp. As he wiped his hand on his pants, Tweek snatched the blue cellophane. Before Nathan could make a bigger scene, Tweek took a pair of craft scissors and made a wavy line down the middle of the sheet.
"Here. Problem solved," Tweek set half on the slobbery felt.
A snarl ripped from Nathan’s throat as his upper lip rose. Tweek froze like a rabbit staring down a pet dog.
Oh, shoot! He had let himself get overconfident! Nathan was going to kill him, right there in the Red Cross building, in front of everyone!
Mimsy put his big hands on Nathan's shoulders and turned him.
"That'll be enough blue, dontcha think, boss? I think so. We just needed a little. Ain't it real diplomatic to share like that?" Mimsy jabbered on as he forced Nathan towards their table.
Tweek's body relaxed. Mimsy glanced over his shoulder at him.
"Thank you," he mouthed at him. Mimsy turned forward instantly, the tips of his ears burning pink.
---
Nathan crumbled the blue cellophane and threw it on the table. He was upset, but Mimsy didn't know why. They got more than enough for their pool.
Maybe if his head wasn't so light and spinny, he could figure it out, but right now he felt as though his feet weren't even touching the ground.
Tweek was so nice. He gave him his juice box. He shared the cellophane. He even said thank you for taking Nathan away to cool off.
Tweek was wonderful.
"--msy?"
Mimsy blinked.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, what were ya sayin', Boss?"
Nathan pinched the bridge of his nose, pushing up his glasses.
"I said we have to get those punk-ass jerks Jimmy, Timmy, and Tweek. We can't let them win!" Nathan picked up a pair of scissors and cut the crinkled cellophane to shape.
Mimsy twiddled his thumbs, taking a seat. "Do we have to? I don't think Tweek deserves us destroying his hard work."
Nathan paused and looked up. He fixed Mimsy with a look before he scowled.
"Mimsy, what do you care about that blond twitchy kid?" Nathan asked in a slow, careful tone.
Mimsy picked up a button he had painted to look like a life-ring and twisted it between his fingers. "Oh, well, ah...Tweek just..." He felt a silly smile grow on his face and couldn't make himself look up at his best friend as he continued, "He gives me butterflies, ya know, boss? In my tummy, and I just don't wanna cause him no trouble."
He didn't really want to cause Jimmy or Timmy trouble either, but Nathan had his heart set on being better than them, so Mimsy tagged along and helped him out however he could.
"Oh, for the love of..." Nathan dragged his hands down his face. "You know Tweek has a boyfriend, don't you? Shit those butterflies out already. You don't have a chance."
"I don't wanna chance." Mimsy picked up a lego brick and attached it to another brick. "Just knowing Tweek’s happy makes me happy. I wanna be his friend."
Be his friend, sit together at lunch, even, hold his hand at recess a little, that's all Mimsy wanted. He just really, really wanted that wonderful person to like him and he didn't think ruining his project would make that dream come true.
"Mimsy, you have the brain of a chicken." Nathan shook his head.
"Ah, geez, thanks, boss." Mimsy smiled at him. Chickens are really smart. Their class watched a show on them once. Chickens can count and do basic math! Nathan was such a swell guy for using inside information to compliment him.
Nathan opened his mouth then shut it with a groan. "Just finish building the house and stop pining over Tweek. I'll come up with a plan in the meantime."
Though his stomach twisted with worry, Mimsy nodded. Nathan wouldn't steer him wrong, would he?
---
Lunch was sandwiches, a snack pack of chips, an apple or orange, and a drink. The adults ushered everyone out to another room to eat, so Tweek's group stood with Kenny and his siblings as they ate.
In the ten minutes since Karen started talking to Tweek, he was pretty sure he counted her take a breathless than fifteen times.
"Since it's a kitten's house," Karen explained, "it'll have a pen outside for mice she can eat anytime she wants and--"
"Karen," Kenny cut in, "looks like they're letting people have seconds. Go get some. Get me another too."
Karen looked at her half-eaten sandwich then back up. Kenny shooed her with his fingers and a nod.
"Mom let us come for the free food, sis," Kenny reminded her, taking a big bite of his sandwich. "We'll put the extras in Kevin's bag."
"But, I was telling Tweek about our project." Karen sighed, but pushed her chair out anyway and headed back towards the serving table.
Jimmy laughed, slapping Tweek's shoulder. "Wow, I thought she would t-talk your ear off."
Tweek blew a breath out. "Thanks, dude.” He told Kenny. “She's really excited, huh?"
He raised a shoulder in a half shrug. "It gets her out of the house to play with glitter glue and stickers. Of course, she's excited. I don't think we'll win, but she's having fun, so it's ok by me if we lose."
From across the table, Kevin snorted. "We'd better win. Girls love being treated to a dipped cone," he muttered, more to himself than the conversation between the fourth graders.
Kenny rolled his eyes as Karen came trotting back up. Chips and fruit ladened down her arms. Several sets of eyes from the nearby tables turned towards theirs when she dropped everything down with the thump of hard apples and oranges and the crinkles of plastic chip bags.
Karen beamed proudly at her plunder. "That nice old lady gave it to me when I told her my last name." She waved towards an elderly woman sitting behind the table. See Karen acknowledge her, the woman waved back before returning to her conversation.
Kenny's cheeks blushed red. He averted his eyes and pulled his hood strings a little. Even Kevin slumped down a little farther in his chair.
As is his nature, Jimmy quickly changed the subject before the heavy silence grew too awkward.
"So, w-what else is everyone doing for their e-en-entries? Do you know? Colette is sitting next to us and is making a fairy castle. It's r-r-r-really neat!" Jimmy waved his hands out, drawing the attention to himself and shielding the McCormicks while Kevin unzipped his backpack.
"Yeah, um, oh!" Tweek moved his arms out as well, though not as wide. "Mimsy told me he and Nathan were making a summer house. Isn't that cool? Errr--It has a pool even."
"A pool?!" Karen gasped. She grabbed Kenny's arm and shook him. "Can ours have a pool? I know cats hate water, but I don't think this kitten would. It can be a special cat pool!"
"Huh? Yeah, sure, we can put fish stickers inside," Kenny replied without looking up from his and Kevin's work.
"I want the pool to have pink water," Karen continued, wrapping her arm around his. "It's fancy rose water. We have some extra paper flowers we can put around it, and we can even make an innertube floatie!"
"I bet you can make the best p-pool ever," Jimmy told her, finally lowering his arms to the table. "I think we have some extra pink plastic wrap you can use. If you make a paper c-c-cir-circle you can cover it for your pool."
Karen released Kenny's arm and darted around the table to squeeze in between Tweek and Jimmy, bombarding Jimmy with questions for more ideas. Feeling claustrophobic, Tweek slipped out of his seat. The instant he did, Karen plopped down.
Kenny set a hand on Tweek's arm. "Thanks. I owe you one,” he whispered, his cheeks still tinged with the red of embarrassment.
Before Tweek could reply, another hand grabbed his arm and pulled. He spun around to see Timmy staring at him with a determined expression. He tugged Tweek away to talk privately in the corner.
"I saw Nathan and Mimsy." He nodded towards the door to the other room. "They snuck back in."
"What?" Tweek squawked. He craned his head around to make sure no one heard him. "What?" He repeated, much quieter. "When? Should we tell an adult?"
Timmy shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe? Or..." He flashed a wicked smile, "we catch them."
"You want to sneak in there? How? You're not exactly..." He gestured to Timmy's wheelchair.
Timmy frowned. "I am sneaky."
"You are, but, eeer," Tweek chewed his lower lip. "There are too many people. We have to open the door completely to get you inside and..."
"You go!" Timmy rolled closer, pointing at Tweek’s chest. "You go in after Nathan."
"Why me? We should tell an adult." Tweek took a step away, but Timmy rolled his chair in front of him, blocking his path.
"You go. In ten minutes, I will tell someone." He promised, crossing his heart with his finger.
Timmy had that determined look on his face. It was the same face he had when he argued with Cartman about changing his superhero from Iron Maiden to Doctor Timothy. Unless Tweek wanted to make a powerful enemy of Timmy, he had no choice.
"Alright, fine..." Tweek heaved a sigh. "We still need a distraction though."
Timmy smirked, wheeling himself back. "That is my job."
Before Tweek could stop him, he spun his chair around and surged it forward. In the middle of the room, he slammed the brakes to a stop and fell out onto the ground. He threw his arm up dramatically with an anguished cry that reminded Tweek a little too much of a soap opera character.
It took seconds for all the adults to gather upon Timmy.
Tweek seized his moment and dashed towards the door. He slipped in and turned his eyes to a horrendous scene.
Drops of red, yellow, and blue paint rolled down half-finished walls and stained cuts of cardboard paper. Stickers had been ripped from the lego bricks on some and whole parts of the buildings taken away on others. Swear words were written along roofs in white glue. Glitter covered every surface.
And the end of the line of crafting carnage stood none other than Nathan himself, gluing marker caps to lego bricks with glitter glue.
"Hand me the buttons," Nathan held out his hand behind him without looking up. "We're going to put a big penis on this house. We'll use those stupid colored bushes as hair on the--"
"STOP!" Tweek shouted, rushing forward. He knew it was too late to save his or any of the other projects, but he had to try to save what was left!
With a rush of adrenaline, he dove at Nathan. Marker caps and buttons clattered across laminate as Nathan gasped and struggled under Tweek.
Nathan smacked Tweek across the face with the back of his hand, but Tweek was able to pin one of Nathan's hands down by the wrist.
With a sneer, Nathan aimed the bottle of glue in his free hand at Tweek's face and squeezed. A line of liquid glue hit him right above the right eye.
Tweek recoiled back, desperately trying to wipe the glue away with his sleeve. Nathan shoved him off. He rolled back, knocking into another table.
The folding table's leg gave way, dumping all the projects on it. Legos, stickers, paper, paintbrushes and shallow dishes of water all dropped to the floor. One of the houses hit Tweek on the top of the head. Stars swam across his vision.
"NO!" Nathan screamed. "My project!"
Tweek looked to his side and saw the remains of a lego house with a styrofoam sun glued to the top. The house crushed a paper water bowl with blue cellophane inside and several palm trees made of construction paper.
"Why you!" Nathan snarled. "Mimsy, grab him! I'm going to put a bottle of glitter glue down his throat!"
Tweek tried to scramble to his feet, only to slip on the loose pieces. Mimsy loomed over him.
There was no way out now. He was blocked by Nathan to his left, the other table to his front, the fallen table to his back and Mimsy to his right.
Tweek didn't think he would die today, but here he was about to meet the reaper.
All in all, he had a good day up until all this started with Nathan. He and his friends had lots of fun building the lego house and adding the decorations.
Too bad he couldn't say goodbye to everyone. Where were his parents supposed to find a new busboy on such short notice? Craig would be annoyed, too. They had a date planned for next week.
Accepting his demise, Tweek clenched his eyes shut and waited...and waited...and waited, but nothing came.
He opened his eyes to see Mimsy staring at him, face red and conflicted.
"Mimsy! Do as I say!" Nathan ordered.
"But, Boss! The butterflies," He whimpered as he grabbed at his shirt. "Can't we just go? Please?"
Nathan let out a cry of frustration. He set one foot on either side of Tweek before grabbing his chin. He held the glue up threateningly.
"If you're going to be useless, I'll do it myself," Nathan muttered.
He squeezed Tweek's cheeks into a fish pucker, forcing them apart. Tweek gritted his teeth.
A pair of hands fell on Nathan's shoulders. He blinked and looked up just in time for him to be thrown back into the opposite table. That one fell backwards with a crash, destroying all the defiled projects atop it.
Mimsy's lip quivered. "I asked ya to stop, Boss. I even said ‘please’..."
As Mimsy wiped away tears on his arm, the door opened.
"What is going on in here — Oh my Gosh!" One of the adults gaped at the scene.
Nathan scrambled to his feet, jabbing a finger at Tweek.
"He tried to come and break everyone's projects," He accused. "We came here to stop him from ruining everyone's fun. Tweek is a big cheater!"
"That's not--argh! That's not what happened!" Tweek countered though he didn't try to stand. His head hurt too much. Hopefully, his mom remembered to put the ice pack back in the freezer since Tweek smashed his elbow at the shop. Tweek was going to need it for the lump growing on the top of his head.
Slowly, adults and kids trickled in, looking on the destruction. Some of the younger kids started crying. A few of the adults already had phones out, preparing to call parents.
"Yes, it is, ma'am," Nathan said in his most sympathetic voice. "Tweek came in and was doing awfully naughty things to other people's projects. When Mimsy and I came in, he pushed me down.”
"No, he pushed me," Tweek snapped. "Please, Timmy! Timmy saw these two come in here, didn't you? Tell them!"
The adults turned to Timmy, who nodded once, glaring at Nathan.
"See!" Tweek gestured.
The adults still didn't look convinced. One walked right past Tweek to Nathan, putting a hand on his shoulder.
"Are you hurt, sweetie?" She asked.
"A little bit, ma'am," he whimpered. “I have a scrape on my elbow. I might need stitches.”
"I'm telling the truth!" Tweek tried to stand, but the world spun too much for him to stay up.
Mimsy chewed his lip. His hands rubbed his stomach before he took a long, slow breath.
"Missum?" Mimsy tugged on the back of her shirt. "Nathan's lying. You see, we was gonna come in and ruin half of everyone's projects, so no one could tell we really were trying to ruin Tweek's teams, but Tweek came in, and Nathan pushed him and tried to put glue in his mouth. I’m the one who pushed Nathan."
Nathan growled. "Mimsy, you fucking traitor," He snapped. "See if I let you sit next to me at lunch now."
"Young man!" the adult gasped. "What did you just say?"
Nathan winced as he realized his mistake. She grabbed his shoulders and marched him towards the door. Mimsy twiddled his thumbs, uncertainly, before the adult yelled at him to follow her as well.
"Mimsy?" Tweek called. "That was really cool and brave of you. Thanks a lot."
Never before had Tweek seen a face light up as fast as Mimsy’s did at that moment. He giggled to himself before following after Nathan, almost skipping the whole way there.
---
Tweek slumped down against the table. His head still hurt, but at least the room stayed still when he moved. Timmy patted his shoulder as Jimmy sat down across from them.
"Nathan's parents just came to drove him and M-M-M-Mimsy home. They're in big trouble for this. They have to p-pay for the house kits they broke and aren't allowed at any R-R-Red Cross events for a whole six months." Jimmy cocked his head to the side. "I just don't get it. Why would Nathan do something so mean and nasty?"
Timmy slapped his palm to his forehead and dragged his hand down his face.
"He is a dick bag," Timmy reminded him. "Remember camp?"
"Those were all just unfortunate accidents," Jimmy countered. Timmy rolled his eyes and let the topic drop.
"And, anyway, Tweek. How are you f-feeling?"
Tweek shook held his head. "I'll be ok. I'm just glad I'm not in trouble, too. It's too bad we couldn't win the prize, though. Did you hear what happened to the gift cards?"
Jimmy nodded. "Yeah, they decided to judge the ones left standing and pick a winner from those, but open the contest again in a month for everyone else who got their projects wrecked."
"Who won?" Timmy asked.
A smile spread on Jimmy's face. "Kenny and his brother and s-s-sis-sister," he explained. "I saw their finished Kitten Dream House, and it was c-cool and creative! Better than our silly g-g-gingerbread idea by a long shot."
"Will you join us for the next contest?" Timmy wanted to know from Tweek.
Tweek winced. "No, thank you. I'll play by myself at home where no one is going to try to make me eat glue."
"Ah, that's a s-stinky spirit to have," Jimmy chided.
After all that had happened today, Tweek didn't care one bit how his spirit smelled.
If even a fraction of what Timmy said was true, then he had to be very careful until Nathan's anger cooled--or turned back towards Jimmy. Who knows how long that will take!
But if Nathan was upset with Tweek, he was positively pissed at Mimsy for betraying him.
Tweek pursed his lips then nodded to himself.
Monday at school he would ask Mimsy if he wanted to join his table for lunch. It was the least he could do. Besides, as far as Tweek was concerned, Mimsy deserved a much better friend than Nathan, and he was willing to step up and be that friend.

I'm too young for life IASA Chapter 5
Danny woke up with a start. He laid immobile on his bed and stared at the ceiling, his ears perked. It took a few moments before he relaxed slightly. He was grateful that he still remembered the day before. He was a seventeen? year old boy named Danny...Fenton, yes and...he had a mom and a dad and a big sister named after a music genre. Jazz, yeah it was Jazz. He's famous for something and...let's see. His parents are ghost scientists and he can cook.
That was about it.
Danny really hoped he could learn more about his life today. Hopefully it would explain... everything.
He sighed a bit and sat up. He hadn't gone to sleep until late, but he still felt well rested. He scrunched his nose. He really needed a shower asap.
Let's see, where was the shower. Ah yes.
Danny entered the bathroom but went right back out to get a new pair of clothes. His parents had given him clean clothes so he didn't have to leave the hospital in a hospital gown, but he just wanted a fresh start of the day.
The boy threw a pair of clothes from the closet and on the ground and started undressing. However, when he slipped off his shirt he froze.
Was that really weird skin or...
Why were there so many light patches of skin. Why did those patches have ridges. What-
He scrambled out of the bathroom and stood in front of the full body mirror in horror.
His body was a patchwork of skin and scars. Even with his limited knowledge of weapons, Danny could see he had stood on the business end of all of them at some point. Wait...were those claw marks?
What is this?
Danny's hands trembled as they touched his stomach. What had happened to him? Had he been caught by criminals and tortured? Was he a professional assassin? Was he part of a dangerous gang full of guns, knives and...bears? Wolves?
He was overcome by panic and struggled to get out of his pants. He hopped around and fell on the ground. He lay there, staring at his legs, which weren't much different from the rest of his body. Air escaped his mouth as he ran his fingers over his scars.
Was he a fireman? He had a lot of burnt parts. Isn't he too young to be a fireman? What was he? Sixteen? Too young.
Danny humphed and fell on the ground, staring at the ceiling intently. "What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck." He raised his arms to the ceiling and glared at them. What the fuck, he thought, how is scars the only thing that was left after whatever happened to him? How wasn't he dead? He grunted and slammed his hands on the ground. "Ok." The poor boy took a deep breath. He rubbed his eyes roughly. "Ok then. Whatever. I'm a mutilated human? Being? I- whatever." He stood up and made his way back to the bathroom. He paused and turned his head to look at the mirror once more. It showed his back, which looked like it had had pieces of concrete slammed into them. How didn't he have broken bones? Or missing limbs?
The boy huffed and turned back around. "All I wanted was a damn shower."
He took off his boxers and put the water to the coldest setting.
Some time later a slightly dripping but freshly washed and clothed boy walked carefully down the stairs to the kitchen. It was empty and he couldn't hear anyone moving in the living room, or in the house for that matter. It wasn't that early was it?
He looked around for a clock and the one he found said it was 8:30. That wasn't early... But apparently his family didn't do mornings because everyone's breathing was even and deep.
Danny, however, found himself to be very hungry so he set about opening every cabinet and searching for anything to eat. He barely remembered where everything was so it took a bit to find the bread. He skipped putting anything on it and ate three slices before he spread some peanut butter on the fourth.
He heard his...dad wake up and start dressing so he figured the rest would come soon and made the table with what he could find.
His thirst urged him to open the fridge, but he wondered if he would find anything drinkable in there because he sensed (smelled? He wasn't sure, but he knew) ectoplasm and other chemicals in there. The boy braced himself and opened the fridge. His other hand flung forward to hold back a small green blob that Danny figured was a ghost. He inclined his head. "Hello, little guy. It's not very nice to attack someone without even a greeting. I'm just here to drink something."
That just seemed to agitate the ghost more and Danny hurried to continue. "I won't hurt you! I-" he searched the fridge and found a pack of juice. "Can I have that?" He pointed at it and saw the blob ghost consider it. After a moment he sensed its affirmation and grabbed the pack, simultaneously letting go of the ghost, who curled back inside as he closed the door. Danny sat down to drink and wondered if his parents knew this house was haunted.
Soon enough Jack entered and lit up at the sight of Danny eating breakfast. "Good morning! Good to see you're here!"
Danny nodded, knowing he wasn't only talking about being downstairs but being here and out of the hospital in general. "Made breakfast."
"Thank you Danno. I'm starving."
They sat for a half hour, talking fast and jumping from one random topic to the next. Danny kind of enjoyed talking to this man. At some point he asked whether he knew about the ghost in their refrigerator and Jack admitted that he did, but no matter what kind of antighost powder they sprinkled around the machine those little guys kept showing up.
Danny was extremely amused that this family of ghost hunters couldn't get rid of the ghostly pests in their fridge. "Don't you hate ghosts?"
Jack appeared surprised and offended. "Of course not. I love ghosts. Why would I spend years studying and researching on something that I hate." The woman of the house walked in as he continued talking. "Ghosts are amazing!"
Danny frowned in confusion, looking between his dad and his mom, who was shuffling to the fridge in her pyamas. She grabbed a skillet, opened the fridge, let the blob ghost slam into the skillet as she grabbed something to drink and closed the fridge.
"Aren't you ghost hunters?" The boy continued.
"Ghost hunters is our official term," Maddie explained, "But it's not our official job."
"Huh?"
She plopped down next to him. "We do hunt ghosts, yes, but that's only a very small part of all we do. We study their anatomy, DNA (or what's left of it), mannerisms, lairs, obsessions and run through all theories on ghosts to give proof on which are true and which stereotypes should be eradicated." She brought some food to her mouth and spoke through half a mouth full. "Of course, we can't prove or disprove anything without a specimen."
Jack nodded. "Ghosts are fascinating. And the more we learn about them, the more complex they turn out to be," he stabbed his knife in his toast, "the more amazing they are."
Danny felt a bit uncomfortable, but also a bit relieved that their whole profession didn't revolve around the hunting and extinction of ghosts. "So why call yourself a Ghost Hunter?"
"Because of previous misconceptions of ghosts," Maddie explained a bit annoyed, "as soon as anyone found a ghost lair, they wanted it gone. I don't see them wanting to eradicate the birds building a nest in the trees."
Danny flinched.
Jack nodded, munching on the last of his bread. "It's for business purposes. Don't worry, Danno. Everyone knows more about ghosts now. Us Fentons don't keep our research a secret. We only keep calling ourselves ghost hunters because it catches other ghost organizations' eye. We need to get materials from somewhere."
Danny nodded, deep in thought. He wasn't quite sure what to think. So how did his parents stand on the idea of ghosts now? They loved them, they said. Loved to...inspect them? That's the general vibes he'd gotten. And he didn't really like them. But they did say that thanks to them, people had gotten more used to ghosts.
It was then that Jazz entered and greeted everyone. She smiled at him especially, but he was too out of it to respond.
She let him and quickly ate her breakfast. Jack had continued to talk about their work and recounting the types of things they had found out and how he'd always been fascinated by ghosts. Ever since he was eight and would swear he'd seen the glowing outline of their dead horse in the woods.
Danny looked down at his lap and his arms resting on his legs. His mind was brought back to the small panic he'd had back in his room. He was wearing a long sleeved shirt. He wasn't sure why, because he could have just as well worn a shirt since he wasn't very cold. He remembered the makeup kit he'd found behind the mirror after leaving the shower and seeing a ridge behind the glass.
The weirdest thing was that it only contained skin tones and the like cover-up cream. Did he use those to cover up his scars. It's the only thing he could think of right now. But why would he? Was Danny before embarrassed of them? Danny after didn't know why he should be. They were just scars. Why did he feel the need to hide them.
Although they were disconcerting.
Jack must've realized he hadn't heard Danny in some time and paused. "Danny?"
"Mmh?" The boy looked up.
His sister smiled through her bangs that hung in her face now that they weren't in her headband. "Penny for your thoughts?"
"I uh-" Danny cleared his throat a bit awkwardly before making up his mind. He brought his arms above the table and pushed a sleeve back. He pointed at the scars, a bit accusingly. "Where did these come from?"
It was quiet around the table as Danny looked at them steadily.
Maddie, who was sitting next to him, reached out and ran her thumb over a few of the scars. "Do you...have more?"
Danny blinked at her. She didn't seem too surprised to see them, although shaken. He stood up and held up his shirt. He figured they'd wanna see the back too and did a slow turn.
"Well, now's as good a time as any." Jazz was the one to break the silence.
Maddie still had her eyes glued on the burn mark on his side and Jack was speechless for once.
Danny was curious. "You didn't know about them?"
"I-" His father started, "I figured. I've seen the things you do. It's different seeing it in person."
Danny frowned. "What kind of things? What did I do?"
Jack stuffed some food in his mouth, showing that although he'd been exited to tell the boy, he wouldn't be the one to blow the news.
"This is gonna be weird so," Jazz but her lip and patted her hands on the table awkwardly, "maybe brace yourself."
Danny frowned in confusion. He was definitely suspecting something weird. Nothing normal could give him these types of marks. He didn't just trip at school and suddenly gain bullet wounds on his shoulder and a third degree burn on his side.
So he figured he was braced enough.
Jazz pursed her lips. "You um...have a dangerous life."
The boy rose an eyebrow. "You don't say."
She humpfed. "Let me finish."
"This is just a bit hard to explain." Maddie interrupted. "It's a very long story. A big part of which I don't know yet."
Danny didn't respond and Jazz cleared her throat. "You're half ghost."
Maddie straightened, offended. "He's not half ghost. He's got ectoplasm in his veins yes but you can't make it out as something as simple as half ghost."
"It's easier to explain it to him like that." Jazz defended herself. "We always referred to it as half ghost."
"Danny's smart. That term simplifies it unnecessarily and is severely incorrect."
"For goodness's sake. We're kids, mom. Not profesional scientists."
Danny's eyes were wide as he followed the exchange. He was a hybrid? How did that work? None of his parents were ghosts. "Is that how I got these scars?"
The two women turned back to look at the topic of conversation to see him scratching lightly at his arms scars.
Jazz frowned. "Well, I suppose indirectly? Being half ghost wasn't really the reason you got them...most of the time."
Now it was Danny who looked confused. "I meant- are the scars a product of becoming..." He struggled. "Did something happen to me that resulted in me getting these wounds and becoming half ghost or? Did. Did I die because of a mass shooting??" He was getting worked up now, and angry at how little everything made sense. "Did I die in a burning building? Was I stabbed because I really feel stabby right now."
"No! I uh-" Jazz wrung her hands, really hoping she wouldn't have to be the one to be telling him about this. But she was the one with the most knowledge of how it had all happened. "You remember the ghost portal we have in our basement right? It's- you were the one that made it work."
The boy's eyes widened. "I made that??"
"No! Our parents did the whole machinery and yeah. You kinda..were the one that turned it on and actually made it work."
"Wha- how?"
Jazz threw her hands up. "I don't know. You told me you went inside and touched something and it turned on and you." She paused. "Something happened to you. And you became half ghost."
Danny blinked down at his hands. His parents looked just as frustrated as Jazz about how Danny had become what he is. Danny remembered the feeling when he was down in the basement. It didn't quite feel like familiarity, but it was similar. Like he belonged there. Not necessarily in the good sense. He just belonged.
"So how." He continued, feeling very cross because none of his questions were really being answered. "Scars. And, you didn't know about this, did you? What happened?"
Maddie sighed loudly and leaned back in her chair. "No," she said ruefully, "we did not know. We only found out about you being...whatever you are, after the accident that resulted in your coma. You kept it a secret from everybody expect Sam and Tucker and Jazz."
"What." Danny hugged his torso. "What did I keep a secret."
Jack grinned wide at that, not even reading the tense and expectant atmosphere. "You being a superhero!"
Danny had fallen silent. He took a single breath and exhaled with an incredulous expression. "A what now?"
He watched for a few seconds as his mom and his sister struggled for words, when his father suddenly stood up and grabbed the beat up laptop that was resting on the small table next to theirs. He ignored the others' questions as he turned it on and typed a few things. Then the man spun it around and pushed the laptop towards Danny.
His eyes widened as he took in the screen. He didn't know whether he'd forgotten some things about the internet or whether his family just had different updates, but he didn't really fully recognize whatever the setup was except that a picture of the anime boy was on screen.
On top of the screen he read: Danny Phantom
"Click on one."
Danny did as his dad said and the picture started moving. Oh, this is a video. Danny blinked several times as his family briefly congratulated his dad on the idea and waited for Danny's reaction.
The boy watched as the anime man on screen was busy in a hand to fist scuffle with a ghost. There was a lot of static but Danny could hear them talking to each other. The fight didn't look very dangerous. And with that Danny means that they didn't look about to kill each other. It was certainly rough, but almost in the way siblings would fight, with a bit more bruises and shoving into trees involved.
What Danny couldn't understand was why they were showing him this. What did he have to do with him?
Danny paused. Unless...of course.
"Oh." He looked up to see his family staring expectantly. "It's me, isn't it?" He asked even as the puzzle pieces fell into place.
He wasn't a fireman, but he sure had been close.
Jazz nodded. "Like we said: you're half ghost. You protected Amity Park from ghosts who tried to take it over or destroy things."
Danny frowned at that description. Something seemed wrong with that summary, even ignoring the past tense. However, his eyes stayed glued on the screen. Past Danny had used his opponents grappling hook against them and pierced it through their armor. Current Danny wasn't very upset, though. He recognized the ghost from the character sheet that he had found in his dresser. He didn't remember the name, but knew the armor was just a robot.
Past Danny stomped and crushed the other's shoulder, making the head pop right out and revealing a small but intricate control panel and a simple ghost in it. The ghost scrambled away only to be caught by an amused Danny.
The boy stared at the screen as past him exchanged a slightly scolding conversation that the other returned with curses and an eye roll. Danny barely noticed as his family moved around him, finishing breakfast, cleaning the table and leaving him to scroll through the app.
He didn't know how long he stayed sitting there, so lost in the laptop and the app he slowly recognized as YouTube. He went from amateur videos to news channels about him. He saw a wide range of ghosts and his past self's apparent familiarity with a lot of them, along with many very hard battles that revealed some of the scars he had. His finger brushed over a sharp line on his shoulder as he stared at on screen Danny getting an arrow stuck in that place.
He frowned at a video from a youtuber discussing 'Danny Phantom's secret identity. He was really wondering how he had kept it a secret that he was a half ghost. And how he'd dealt with all the injuries. He must have been doing this for long if he could move around in a fight that easily. He remembered Sam and Tucker. They must have known. There was no way they didn't know. Oh wait Maddie had mentioned that Jazz, Sam and Tucker had known. But his parents. The rest of the town...
The youtuber finished their video and as they monologed the end notes he scrolled down for more videos. He paused by one showing his parents shooting at ghost him. His finger hovered over the mouse before he continued down, evading that topic completely. The comments for the video showed that the people didn't suspect his civilian self at all. There were a lot accusing some dude called Wes, but they seemed more teasing than the result of any sleuthing. Also a lot of comments mentioned Danny Phantom's...allure. He chuckled and decided to search for something else. He exited YouTube and looked up 'Danny Phantom' on Google. A wiki page showed him what he wanted to know, which was whatever he could.
It told him everything the public knew about him. Name, powers, ghosts he'd been seen fighting with, his apparent betrayal to the mayor and the public in general (he paused to look up what that crap was about and figured troubles with other ghosts), the public's obvious indecision of his honesty and theories of his obsession, where he came from and what he wanted.
They must've not yet updated this enough because all he saw of his human half was a short mention of Danny Fenton at the bottom of the webpage. He'd figured he would've been all other the place.
When he was done he leaned back in his stool with a huff. The boy stayed quiet, letting the information settle for a moment. He could hear talking in the living room. His sister was talking on the phone about her college and arranging so she could stay for a month at least and continue her studies here until she got back. His parents were in the OP center talking loudly. He guessed this house was never quiet. It wouldn't fit anyways.
He curled his fingers in his now dry hair and turned his eyes back to the laptop. He pursed his lips and hunched back over. Danny typed a quick 'Danny Phantom accident' on YouTube and clicked on the first promising video.
Breath was held as the video played. A lost looking ghost of his past self hovered in the sky, staring at a small, sparkly white jet right before being enveloped in a green light. Danny blinked as the amateur video finished and scrambled for another.
This one was more professional. It showed him moments before. Fighting a ghost, dodging his parents, not dodging his parents, defeating a jet, defeating a ghost, turning around to face the other jet. Danny paled at seeing a zoomed in picture of past Danny.
The boy was trembling, covered in scratches and bruises, dark bags under his eyes, and staring wide eyed at the giant weapon being aimed at him. Fear crossed his eyes right before he disappeared in light.
There was a flurry of movement as Danny pushed himself off the table and fell on the ground. He curled up on the ground, covering his face and sealing his eyes shut in preparation for...something.
"Danny?"
His breath hitched as Jazz's voice shook him from his fear. He heard her pause the conversation on the phone and call out again. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah yeah." He shouted. "Fine!"
He slowly uncurled and tried to control his heavy breathing. "I'm fine," he whispered reassuringly to himself and stood up, leaning on the table. He took a breath and looked back at the screen.
The video had ended and another was loading. He stared as the video from another news channel started. A woman presented the news and introduced the topic of Danny Phantom. It switched to the same event but from another angle. The woman spoke over the video, relenting the events and giving slight background information.
Danny slowly went back to his seat, not taking his eyes off the screen as the ghost boy (as a lot of people insisted on calling him) flew around until he was shot down. Danny didn't move this time as his ghost slammed on the ground. There was a hush in the crowd as a different bright light erupted around the ghost. A zoomed in image revealed a human lying unconscious on the crater.
The woman started talking again, explaining exactly who the shockingly alive body of Phantom is. Meanwhile a few shots of an ambulance coming in and Danny being wheeled in passed by. The camera crew rushing to keep up. They just barely got a shot of Maddie entering the ambulance and driving off. They'd tried to question Jack but he had ignored everything as he ran in his own car, or whatever that thing on hour wheels was.
The woman promised to come back if they had anymore news and the video ended.
Danny hesitated before reading the comments.
He wanted to know the public's reaction.
He wasn't disappointed when thousands of people expressed their surprise. It seemed most of them knew his human body and couldn't believe he was an actual ghost. Others were incredibly confused on the workings of a half ghost but some were shouting in captions as if their hypothesis had been confirmed.
Danny quirked a smirk. Did some people actually suspect him? Or were they just making it up? It was in any case a surprisingly low amount and Danny was impressed that he had been able to keep it a secret for so long.
He sighed and laid his head on his crossed arms.
His family and friends were hoping and almost certain he would get this memories back, but Danny didn't know.
There was a whole life he had lived, things he had done, people he had met, that he didn't know about. He...didn't know anything. It was depressing. And if he didn't remember, he'd never get that life back. He'd never know how it would be to be a part-time superhero (or full-time if you pushed it, which past him seemed to have done) and go to school without anyone knowing of it. Because his life now was, so very different.
He sighed.
Suddenly he lifted his head and turned around. There was the blob ghost, peeking through the ridge of the fridge's door. Danny stared at it for a few seconds before he realized what he was feeling. The blob was sending good vibes his way. It must've sensed his distress and wanted to comfort him.
Danny smiled and invited it to come closer. The ghost hesitated, as if making sure it was ok, and jerked free of the fridge. It flew a few circles around Danny before pressing against his chest, where his core must be. It purred against it and Danny relaxed.
He smiled as he petted it. The ghost didn't seem to be familiar with petting, but he let the halfa follow his human instincts.
They had been sitting like that for a few moments when Jazz peeked around the corner to check on him. She smiled. "Looks like you got acquainted."
Danny looked up. "Did we use to be friends before this?"
She shook her head, much to his confusion. "A bunch of them would follow you around, which would've been bad news for your secret." He hummed a response and after a moment she jabbed her thumb up. "Want me to get Mom and Dad?"
"Sure."
The two ghosts were quiet as Jazz ran up the stairs and shouted at her parents to come down.
Danny shot an amused look to the blob ghost as everyone ran back down.
Maddie was first and she stopped by the doorway with a nervous smile. Before she could say anything his father had barged in, closely followed by his sister, who was frowning at her parents' eagerness.
Maddie blinked at the blob ghost getting cozy with Danny. "Looks like you tamed it."
Danny huffed out a laugh. "More like it tamed me. They're comforting."
The woman raised an eyebrow. "Oh. Oh!" Her eyes cleared and she nodded like it made complete sense.
There was an expectant silence in the air. Danny waited for his mom to explain but she seemed to have already moved on.
"Well?" Maddie started. "Do you...have any questions? We'll try to answer as well as we can."
Danny paused and gave the blob ghost another pet. "What happened to the ghost I captured?" They looked lost so he gave more context. "Right before the accident?"
"Oh. I let it go." Maddie revealed. "Into the Ghost Zone of course. I figured that's what you would have wanted."
Danny nodded. "One more thing. I have a request."
"Anything, Danny."
"Can I go to school?"

Welcome to Melburn Roobaix!
Any cyclist worth their salt knows about Paris-Roubaix, the gruelling French race known for its difficulty, danger and cobblestones. Well sometime ago (forever, if you believe them) the wonderful people at FYXO decided Melbourne, my home city, needed it’s own version of the race.
They took the seriousness down a notch, tracked a route through our fair city totalling about 50km, gave everyone scavenger hunt-style question sheets to fill out en route–and this year was the first year I gave it a go.
Loads more photos below!
I had bought a ticket to the Melburn Roobaix at the last minute; it was something I’d been trying to decide on for a while and it was only when a close friend of mine said she’d do it with me that I decided to take the plunge. Recently I’d been lucky enough to get my hands on a beautiful road bike that was absolutely worth more than what I paid for it, and I’d owned this bike for a week before deciding to put it through the gruelling 50km event.
Juicy!
The FYXO team wanted to create an event that would be a challenge, while at the same time remaining fun, tongue-in-cheek and family friendly. There was a less devastating ‘petite Roobaix’ for parents with young kids, but I was amazed to see a lot of kids 10-15 giving it a red hot try on BMX bikes or road bikes of their own. Families were out and about together and it was awesome to see.
A big part of it was the dressing up aspect, too! They encouraged costumes and crazy bikes, so we saw everything from a cardboard Pac Man being chased by an equally cardboard Ghost, to a Mad Hatter and Alice in Wonderland on a tandem bicycle with the dormouse in a basket on the back, to the full team of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
All with bike helmets, of course. Safety first!
Loads of people had poured creativity into their outfits and I felt a little under-dressed! As I’d come in so late I hadn’t planned for anything except my signature citrus-y vibe which I made sure to bring in with me. Melbourne had treated us with the perfect weather for cycling; the sun was out and the air was brisk, just perfect for getting warmed up with a nice bike ride.
There was a crazy amount of people on the starting field, more than I had expected to be there. We were soon picking up our starter kit which had our map, our question sheet and loads of fun little goodies like a sticker pack and pen, other Roobaix bits and bobs.
We headed off sometime just after 9:30am on this brisk and hectic Sunday morning.
One thing I quickly noticed; Melburn Roobaix was a fantastic way to see a city that I had lived in for years, yet somehow had never properly explored. We started off along a beautiful river trail I had always admired from a distance, winding through gorgeous forest area, that I had always thought to myself I’ll ride that bike path one day.
Even once we hit the streets we went down laneways and through areas I had never previously visited–had a reason to visit–and there was so much to see and do! So many gorgeous old buildings and great little cafes!
There were so many riders doing the Roobaix that you were really never on a stretch of road on your own, there was always a group of cyclists within eyesight somewhere, which was very useful if you lost track of where the signage was. It varied between actual signs with arrows pointing in the right direction stuck to things and stencilled arrows on the pavement, but neither were very frequent which led people to pause in their cycling trek to often check their maps, or simply to follow the cyclists who seemed to know where they were going..
If you were set on completing your scavenger hunt questionnaire you had to pay even closer attention though… where was the answer to that darn question?!
At many places there would be clusters of cyclists stopped, whether they were reassessing the route, grabbing a much-needed drink, fixing their bikes or just having a good rest. My cycling buddy and I didn’t want to stop anywhere too early because we figured once you got to sitting down it would be much harder to get yourself moving again! There were lots of cafes and rest places along the set route and we saw stacks of bicycles at each one.
One of the cafes was also a scavenger hunt answer, with two other answers nearby, and it was one of the most popular spots for people to stop for this reason. It was also a solid third of the way into the run, and by this point we decided we’d deserved a rest; by now it was getting to 12pm so we’d been cycling pretty solidly for two hours.
Can you spot me?
I had packed food for myself which I had brought with me, but I couldn’t resist a small reward in a maple and brown sugar glazed donut and a tasty soy chai. While we rested I also took the opportunity to eat my homemade peanut-butter and jam sandwich, which was definitely needed, and immediately felt renewed! Peanut butter gave me the protein I needed, the yummy seeded bread the carbs and the jam was a bit of a sugar kick to get me going again.
Up until this point we’d had a few small laneways of cobblestones which had been uncomfortable. The largest stretches of cobbles came in the second half and boy were they unpleasant!
The cobblestones are a defining characteristic of the Roobaix so we had kinda known what we’d be in for, but that didn’t make them any easier to traverse. I was on my roadbike, a carbon-framed beast that weighed next to nothing with tyres barely wider than the width of my finger; this is a bike suited to smooth flat streets and not the uneven terror of cobbled laneways.
Every time my bike’s tyres skidded on stone my heart stopped for a fraction of a second as I tried to straighten myself up. My cycling buddy’s bike was heavier with thicker tyers and fared much better, but I really had to take it easy on these stretches and concentrate as even the slightest lapse in judgement was going to send me crashing to the ground.
Not gonna lie, pretty terrifying.
It was getting tougher with every additional stretch of cobbles too, they seemed to go on forever sometimes and then even when we ended up on smooth surfaces my butt and arms were so sore (the latter from tension mostly, trying to maintain steering) that I hardly seemed to find any kind of rest. Plus we still had a lot of ground to cover!!
Honestly, my favourite part? Watching where the cyclists congregated. Seeing everyone just getting along doing the same thing, stopping for coffee or a beer, stopping along the side of the road and chatting with strangers and sharing tips, scavenger hunt answers and directions. There was a sense of camaraderie, mutual understanding and overall fun. There were people of all ages, going at all kinds of paces. Even when we didn’t stop at the same place as other people, seeing them as we rode by all having a jolly old time was an uplifting experience that energised me and kept me going.
That, and I had a cycling buddy. I don’t think I would have had nearly as much fun if I hadn’t had someone to share it all with, so a big thanks to my bestie who is always there to come with me through my crazy adventures, you’re the best!
More importantly, WE DID IT!
Here we are at Brunswick Velodrome, the finish line of the Roobaix, which we hit just after 3pm which meant we’d been out and about for approx. five and a half hours. By the time we got there the sun had disappeared, the wind had picked up and we were cold and exhausted but we had DONE IT! We took advantage of the tasty food trucks at the finish line before taking our bikes for one last cycle to the train station to head home (it was too cold for anything else!).
It was overall an amazing experience and one that I’m really glad I got to do, even if it was a super last minute decision. I’ll definitely be doing next year’s, and I’ll definitely work on a costume for it!!
Sadly I had forgotten to activate my Fitbit at the beginning so I have no tracked map in my phone, but my stats do say I have 289min of cycling clocked up all up for that day, cut in half by our lunch stop at around 12pm. I think that’s a bloody good outcome!!
See you next year, Melburn Roobaix!!

Do you share a name with any celebrities? I do, but not a lot. I know a singer and a genie with the same name ;) What's your birth stone? Diamond. Do you read your horoscopes every day? Fuck noooooo, but almost everyone around me does. It’s so cringey. What's your favorite drink? Depends on what I’m in the mood for, but I’ve generally been looking for a local coffee shop’s Choco Nut Iced Blended more often recently - it tastes exactly like a chocolate peanut butter + chocnut baby and it’s sickeningly heaven.
What color is associated with your Zodiac sign? I have no clue and I couldn’t care less.
Have you ever been hit on by someone way too old for you? No. Have you ever worked in fast food? Nope, I don’t think I can handle the grumpy moms and entitled old people either. Have you ever flirted with a friend's mom? That’s a big yikes chief. Never. Do you ignore people often? I have my moods. Do you drink a lot of water? Yeah, I love water. Do you like fireworks? I can watch a fireworks display, but I have a problem with it being a pollutant and that it scares dogs :( Is respect given or earned with you? Given, but people can very easily lose it. What's your favorite snack food? Pizza rolls and mozzarella sticks. Do you text a lot? Just my girlfriend. Everyone else seems to prefer Messenger. What's your favorite color to wear? Black or white. Navy green looks good on me too. Do you like wind chimes? I’m fine with them but I don’t feel strongly about them or anything. Are you any good with Photoshop? No good AT ALL. How many megapixels does your camera have? Haven’t heard that word in a while lmao uhhhh I looked it up and it said 12. Do you use the right shift button or the left more? Right. I don’t think I ever use the left. Do you like remixes? Hate them. I can never give them a chance. Do you put stickers on your electronics? Not directly on them. I buy a case for them first and then I put stickers on the case. That way I can buy as many cases to put stickers in haha. Are you homophobic? If I was I’d be hating myself and who I’m dating. What's the last gift you received? Gab got me fisheye and macro lens that she doesn’t use anymore! Have you ever forgotten someone's birthday? Only people I’m not close with. Do you wear your hair up or down usually? Depends on the weather. I’d definitely put my hair up more when it’s summer. Do you hate anyone for no reason? Not hate, but there are just some people who give off the wrong vibe to me even though they haven’t done anything wrong lmao. Are you 'in the closet' about anything? I’m in the closet to my parents and the rest of the elders in my family, save for a handful of aunts and uncles. Do you lie to make yourself feel better? Never. Are you a social butterfly or a wall flower? I can be both, depending on my mood. Do you wear a lot of make up? I never wear makeup. Are you missing any teeth? Nope. Have you ever been to any of the Great Lakes? I haven’t. What's your favorite number? 4 or 23. Do you have any pictures of family around your house? Yeah, just very few though. Do you like scrapbooking? I’d do it if I had the time and the energy for it. Are you one of those girls who have a "wife?" I guess not lmao. What was/will be your first tattoo? Maybe something dedicated to my dog, but that’s if I even get over my needle fear and get a tattoo. Do you have any tattoos dedicated to someone special? No, but I’m open to dedicating tattoos for Gab and my dog. Are you a shit-talker? Only if the person being discussed deserves to be shit-talked. Do you style your hair often? I style my hair never. Do you shave your legs? Yeah, once a week. What is the next piercing you want to get? None. Do you like ghost stories? I love them. I look for those stories on Reddit all the time. What was your favorite movie as a kid? Duuuuude, I made The Game Plan MY BITCH ten years ago. I watched that shit everyday throughout third and fourth grade. Did you watch Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers? No. What color are your eyes? Dark brown. If you could dye your hair any color you wanted at all, what would it be? Dark green. Do you know anyone who was born in a different country? I have tons of cousins who were born outside the Philippines. What state do you live in? None of the fifty, but if we’re talking provinces then I’m from Rizal.

Gotham 4x10 - Re-Watch Review
Almost done with the catch up!
Wow, arkham has really let itself go. Who is running it now anyway? It looks like a complete circus. No wonder Jerome must feel comfortable there.
"It was playing when I killed her" Well, maybe you should have turned the music off before you killed her....or maybe, I dunno, not killed her.
Stabbing someone and slicing their throat with a record....what a waste of a perfectly good record.
Aaaand this is all done as the guards just stand there and watch. High quality service.
Jim shutting Sofia down, what a huge burn.
But seriously, why get involved with Sofia Falcone if you were just going to dump her like this? You already angered Carmine and killed Mario. You really wanted to have a fling with Sofia and risk messing with the family more too?
So, are there no more skits now? Haven't seen one of Ed's shows in awhile. I guess Lee was like, “Okay, let’s tone down the shows and the glittery outfits...okay?” Then he just gets so disappointed that he can’t wear all the glitter and do his performances. He had a closet full of planned green glittery outfits to wear in public and now he constantly stares at them longingly. Sometimes he even wears them when he is all alone or when he sleeps because he just can.
"If she stabs him, it solves the issue" Well, he’s not wrong.
I know for a fact that was the only appearance of Grundy in this episode. So Drew put all his make up on, stood there for a second, and then left...Must have been such a hard day of filming.
I wonder how long Penguin was waiting there for Sofia. Did he sit and talk with Victor until she arrived? Did they get bored so they ate some of her food? Maybe her peanut butter?
Try not to notice that, while Oswald is confronting Sofia, he is yelling as he is looking up at her. The height difference is more apparent than you would expect in this particular scene.
"...and a good foot rub" Cue Victor looking down at Oswald's feet. He must have had so many questions.
When are villains going to learn that they should be present when giving torture?
"Jim. I'm a reflection of you" *Jim looks closely* "Don't see it" Haha
The face being easily fixed. I half expected Jim to pull off his face to find a robot underneath. I mean, it is Gotham. Anything is possible.
"Jerome, Fish, Penguin..." Jim considers them to be the worst psychopaths? Jerome would be the most touched by this.
"People will remember me for months" I know Penguin will. Hard to forget a guy in a pig mask who threatened a soon to be adopted son’s life and served you human meat pies.
Pyg going country? Why am I not surprised by this?
Okay, does Ed even shower at this point? Comb his hair? Wear more clothes? It sure doesn't look like it.
"Has been" "Excuse me!" Heey, be nice to Eddie.
He was more infamous than you, Sampson. Were you ever on the front page headlines of a newspaper or on television? I don’t think so. Granted, Ed hijacked some of that television spot but that’s beside the point.
I really like this actor playing Sampson. We have barely seen much of his character so far but he has a nice presence.
I'm sad to say that I believed Lee for a second about the Narrow's Lung...
Sampson kind of makes that food look good. He should be on food commercials.
Sofia - thinking ahead and preparing for almost anything.
...Yeah, except that. Sirens already messing up her plans.
“kitty cat” When are they going to start calling Selina ‘Catwoman’? Does she have to be age appropriate?
They were so ready to just go ahead and make the deal anyway. Oswald, why is it that you end up sabotaging your own self?
Penguin with his pure little bird son. Seeing little Martin in that chair. So cute
"One day all of this could be yours" I am getting Lion King vibes. Does Martin can’t wait to be king?
Hey Os, at least he confessed the truth! Not complete betrayal. He should get the “not as bad as of a betrayal as it could have been” award.
I just imagine Babs on hold, hearing "WHAT?!! HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS?!" In the background as she shakes her head, grinning at Penguin’s rage.
Babs is staring right at the camera as she is talking. It's like she’s staring into my soul...
Victor just automatically knows that he is free to go murder. Was it a code word? Did Oswald and Victor invent code words for stuff? I really want to know what that conversation was like, as Victor suggests certain code words and Oswald is just like “no. just no”.
"We are not working for anyone but ourselves" Yeah, good luck with that. I hate seeing the sirens be lackeys.
Imagine if Victor actually succeeded...4 major characters just dead there. Imagine all the shock and riots that would ensue. Actually, scratch that. They would probably still find a way to bring back their bodies from the ashes.
I have to wonder how much of Sofia's plan was actually a plan or just pure chance from Penguin's self-sabotage and Jim underestimating her.
No! Don't yell at your child like that! He loves yoooooouuu!
Let's see...each season has a new weakness/loved one to Penguin. Season 1 had Penguin's mom, season 2 had Penguin's dad, Season 3 had Penguin's husband best friend, season 4 has Penguin's unofficially adopted son, Season 5....? Pet penguins?! Crazy uncle Zsasz?!?!
"If she sets foot in Gotham again, I'll put her behind bars." Yeah, I'm sure that'll happen.
“Once Sofia Falcone is gone...where does that leave us?" Translation: Once your girlfriend is out the way, are we finally going to be an item?
Yeah, this working together won't last long.
"I'm sorry. What was that?" That was Ed being sassy.
Wow, that was darker than expected coming from Lee.
Lee and Ed work well together. Nice dynamic.
So...Penguin was drinking....was he half drunk when he was blowing things up and screaming as guns were firing? That feels like the equivalent to doing crazy drunk stuff in Gotham, honestly.
Wait, did Martin draw that picture? Is that supposed to be Tabby in the picture? There was a pony tail... yet it looks like Selina was the one that got him in the car???
"Kid gives me the creeps." What are you talking about? That’s Penguin’s adorable adopted murder son you are referring to! Hardly creepy.
"Must be hard to live your whole life trying to get daddy's approval. I myself can't relate since my parents loved ME without condition!" Savage Penguin. You always know where to hit it where it hurts.
I have issues with this plan. Like, were they just supposed to take Penguin's word on submitting and expect him to follow through? What was to stop Penguin from lying? Is there some kind of criminal code of lying I know nothing about?
The way his body wiggles like he's ready to pounce.
"Not meant to be a sidekick, Lee" Funny...you seemed fine when you were doing things for Oswald when he was mayor.
"I like who you have become. The Ed you were before. My friend" Ed’s expression when she says that. Wow, he looks like he is about to cry. All he wants is to be accepted!!!
Penguin -- always coming with a plan.
How did Penguin know that it would be a place with a hole for Martin to go in? Did he pick the meeting place? Does he know every inch of Gotham? Was it more like “Hey, can we meet at this place instead? Why? No reason. My car is just low on gas, that’s all...” *drives over pot hole to fit it perfectly*
"I don't want to leave you" Ugh kill me.
I really will miss these Oswald/Martin scenes. I hope we get to see more of them and they do not involve putting Martin’s life in danger again.
"I have something better planned for Sofia Falcone" Penguin’s mind: I’m going to call your daddy on you! Muahaha
If it is that easy to escape arkham, how come there are so many prisoners still there?
Mirror ed has returned! Of course he shows up, right after Lee says that she doesn’t like his Riddler side.
Over all: For the most part, I enjoyed the episode. There was some questionable plot holes but I still enjoyed it. The sirens team up with Sofia. Oswald “blows up” Martin and tells Victor to take him somewhere else. Pyg escapes prison, Jim/Lucius find out he is not who he says he is. Ed and Lee take control of the Narrows, as Ed discovers his brain damage is psychological and the Riddler starts to make his return.

Staying Up
Pairing: Bucky X Reader
Words: 1178
Warnings: just fluff
@welcometothislittleplace asked “Hey😊 I had a knee surgery a few days ago and all I'm allowed to do is to lay still (I'm sooooo bored!!), I was wondering if you could maybe make an Bucky Barnes x reader imagine, where the reader got hurt during a mission and has to go through surgery and Bucky takes care of the reader afterwards??😅😅”
A/N: Let me know if you want to be tagged here. I’m sorry this is late but there are so many requests. I hope you feel better :) LOVE YOU. Also, I rewrote all the tags again and I am hoping to god they are working.
“OWWW YOU ASSHAT CAN YOU NOT SEE THE FUCKING DOOR FRAME?” You yelled at Sam who was currently carrying you through the doors of the room, running to the rest of the team.
“Guys Y/N’s been hit...upper thigh. It looks bad.” Sam said.
“Feel even worse trust me.” You laughed before you heard Steve and Natasha shouting in your ears.
“Get to the northside. Bucky will have you covered.”
Once you settled in the quinjet, you knew you weren’t going to hear the end of it once the team arrived too. Between Steve, Sam, and Natasha, you couldn’t catch a break.
“Alright sorry ok.” You thought you were doing fine when Bruce took care of the wound but the second you moved your left leg, pain shot through it and you screamed.
“What’s wrong? Y/N talk to me what are you feeling?” Bruce came to check when he saw the massive amount of blood you were losing.
“How many times were you shot?” He asked.
“Does it matter?” You sarcastically looked at him when all of a sudden, you went into shock. Checking the back of your thigh, he saw an entrance wound but no exit wound.
“She was shot twice. It hit the femoral artery. We need to prep he for surgery now.” Bruce said, giving you an oxygen mask and pressing as much pressure on your thigh as he could.
Bucky was standing in the corner the entire time, watching the event unfold in front of him and trying his hardest to not have a mental breakdown.
Rushing you to Dr. Cho, they took you into the OR and got to work. They were surprised by the fact that you didn’t bleed out. It must’ve been what Bruce did to the wound right below that prevented the bleeding.
Walking out, Dr. Cho informed everyone that you’d be fine but the healing process would take a long time.
“Don’t worry, we’ll have someone with her at all times to he-”
“No.” Bucky said from the far end of the room.
“Buck?” Steve held out his hand to his friend.
“She won’t accept any help. Believe me.”
“So what? She struggles by herself for the next month or so?” Wanda asked.
“I’ll help her.” He said almost immediately.
“Ok.” Steve said and asked everyone to leave him with Dr. Cho.
“One last thing Sergeant Barnes. I would have to ask Y/N if she is alright with you helping her. He nodded and waited with Dr. Cho until you were awake.
Hours later, Dr. Cho called Bucky to come into the room.
He walked in, his heart skipping a beat when he saw your face flushed and your eyes looking away from him.
“Y/N. How’re you feeling?” He asked, sitting in the bed next to you.
“I-I’m fine. Why are you here?” You always felt weird when Bucky was around. Not a bad weird. Just a weird vibe in your stomach, usually involving you stammering over your words.
“Well Dr. Cho. If you please.”
“Ms. Y/N. Bucky offered to help you through the next few weeks with your physical therapy since-” Dr. Cho began before you cut her off.
“Why no no no I don’t need any help.” You tried to sit up but hissed through your teeth when you felt the pain shoot through your leg.
Bucky immediately walked to you and pulled you up, hitting the pillows behind you before you laid back.
“Shut up.” You looked at him, seeing the smile on his face.
“Doll...please. Let me help you. Let me...help you.” He placed a few strands of hair behind your ears, winking at you once he knew you weren’t going to disagree.
Dr. Cho took this as a sign for her to leave, smiling on her way out.
It took a while for Bucky to finally help you out without you complaining every second.
From grabbing the nearest drink to fluffing out the pillow, Bucky was up at all times, making sure you were comfortable.
Dinner came and you groaned, wanting to eat pizza and not the healthy shit Tony made you.
“Darling...I’ll get you pizza but once you’re strong enough for it and not this alright.” He grabbed the fork and tried to feed you. Your eyes met for a few seconds before you opened your mouth and took the food.
“You know...my hands are fully functional. I don’t see why you gotta feed me James.” You said his name without really thinking about it. Looking up, you saw that he was gazing at you, an intensity in his eyes you’ve never seen before.
“Don’t you know.” He whispered, a frown forming on his face.
“Why are you here Buck?”
“Because...I want to care for you Y/N. Because up until a few hours ago, I didn’t how much you scare me. I don’t know how to say this but...it just felt as if no one was going to really help you out except me.”
“You like your coffee with sugar cubes. 2 of them. You like your water ice cold. You foor lukewarm. Not too much jelly but a shitload of peanut butter. You’re obsessed with protein shakes. You get annoyed if the room gets hotter than 75 degrees. You get really really annoyed when your nutella is too melted.”
You were at a loss of words. No one has ever paid that much attention to you. Especially not your quirks.
“Buck-”
“I know that this is all too much right now but just please...let me take care of you.”
You nodded, taking his hands before asking him to tuck you in.
And that’s how it went on for the next few weeks. You never complained once, knowing that it was almost therapeutic for him to take care of you.
And it had this effect on you. One that you couldn’t keep out of your mind.
Everytime he touched you, your heart fluttered. It was a new sensation but you couldn’t get enough of it.
And he noticed. He always noticed.
Instead of thanking him, you’d silently nod and blush. Instead of telling him how to fix your hair, you’d silently sit there while he braided it. He loved braiding it.
It was during one of your late nights when he asked you.
“Ermmm uhh doll?” “Hmmm.” You looked up at him.
“You think you could go on a date with me after you get out? I’d love to take you dancin.” He said it so smoothly you almost hated how he made you stutter.
“Well...that’s going to be a problem.”
He wore a worried expression, afraid that he misunderstood these past few weeks.
“I can’t really do that when I can still barely walk.”
He let out a sigh of relief, chuckling at your answer.
“Don’t worry. I’ll carry you.” He took your hand and kissed it.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this but thank god I got shot.” You laughed when he gave you an not-so-amused look.

Jamming (Peter Quill)
Prompt from @yetmoreprompts: You danced me through the grocery store. :)
To listen to while reading: ‘It Ain’t No Fun to Me’ by Graham Central Station and ‘Thank You’ by Sly and the Family Stone.
Yellow peppers. Orange peppers. Red peppers. Green were out of the question for being a little too bitter, but the red ones were mostly bruised, the orange ones didn’t seem too fresh, and the yellow ones were a slightly strange color. You sighed. The one day you managed to work up the resolve to cook something for yourself instead of stopping at one of your usual restaurants for a late-night snack, the grocery store wasn’t cooperating.
Well, at least the music was good. For a deserted and slightly dingy market, the music coming through the tinny overhead speakers had a surprisingly good groove, slap bass paired with organ and tight vocals bringing a small smile to your lips, your foot automatically beginning to tap as you sorted through vegetables in search of a high-enough-quality pepper.
“Leaving you-hoo-hoo, it really ain’t no fun to me…” A chorus joined the solo singer and you found yourself humming along even though you hardly knew the melody, your tapping foot gaining momentum as you started to lose focus on the task at hand. Your shoulders joined your feet in grooving from side to side to the song and that was when you heard footsteps and froze, cheeks heating.
“What?” a voice asked and you turned to see a tall man in a dark red leather jacket standing there, a surprisingly un-mocking smile on his lips. “It’s a good song.”
You chuckled awkwardly, tossing a pepper from one hand to the other. “Yeah.”
He stepped forward, extending a hand. “I saw you jamming,” he said, in a surprisingly serious tone considering his words. “Would you like to dance?”
“Well, can I at least have your name first?” you asked, setting the vegetable in your hand back on the display.
“Quill,” he said. “Peter Quill. Or Star-Lord. Either one’s fine. And you?”
You introduced yourself, and then he asked,
“So, I could stand here with my hand out until this song ends, or…?”
You laughed. “Yep.” You laid your hand in his and he immediately pulled you in, resting a hand on your waist and dipping you dramatically low as the chorus of the new song began.
“Thank you… For letting me… Be myself… Again!” he sung along in a slightly out-of-tune baritone, spinning the pair of you around quickly enough that you squeaked and he laughed out loud. “Should I go easy on you?” he asked, leading your slightly frenzied footsteps out of the produce aisle and into the canned goods one.
“No, it’s all right. But in my defense, this-” you paused as he twirled you under his arm and then back again, “-is a highly unusual situation, and I’m not really a dancer.”
“What, you mean you don’t dance with strangers in grocery stores regularly?” he asked, briefly letting go of your hand to wave cheerfully at an attendant who just stopped in the end of the aisle, gaping at the pair of you.
“Do you?” you asked incredulously, trying to follow his movements as he twirled you behind his back, accidentally letting go of one of his hands, but he helped you recover and get back in position.
“Well… No,” he admitted. “But then again, you were already dancing, sure you weren’t subconsciously looking for a partner? I’m pretty sure I picked up some vibes from the other side of the store.”
You considered. “That’s possible. Other end of the store- dairy aisle?”
He nodded, saying with relish as the pair of you took another turn, “Peanut butter toffee chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. This is the only place I can find that has it and I’ve looked all over.”
“Couldn’t you like, make it?”
He bobbed his head from one side to the other, contemplating your proposition as he spun you again. “That’s a pretty fantastic idea. I’ll have to give it a shot next time I can’t get over to this side of the galaxy.”
“And what would stop you from getting here?” you asked.
“Oh, you know, I’m wanted,” he said in a tone that was attempting so hard to sound nonchalant you couldn’t help the smile spreading across your lips as your eyebrows rose. “Name someone big and I can tell you why they’re after me,” he said confidently.
“Hmm,” you said, starting to stumble before you managed to regain your balance again. “How about the Mendu Awler Crew?”
He mulled it over, his brow furrowed in thought. “Oh!” he said finally. “Broke out a friend of mine they had. They tried to chase us but we got away. Give me another one.”
Just then, a voice said, “You can’t do that in here.”
Peter stopped, as did you, to acknowledge the short, blue-skinned humanoid who had stopped you. You couldn’t read her nametag, but her simultaneous air of boredom and authority seemed to indicate some sort of managerial status. “I see,” Peter said, nodding at the manager in further acknowledgement and she turned to walk away.
“Well… That was fun,” you said, smiling up at him, still slightly out of breath.
“It was,” he said, sounding a little distracted. “Hey, can I get you a drink?”
Dinner forgotten, you nodded. “Yeah. That sounds nice.”
