I thought you should know that your story is what brought me back to Tumblr and helped me start having imaginative thoughts again, it was just static and a dark cloud in my lil noggin for a bit. I had abandoned all of my own writing, and this app as a whole aside from my anonymous shitpost blog (conveniently named 'hotwheelhamster'... with an awful mouse as the header... and now my little 🐰 emoji... the rodents have taken over) until I stumbled across CRCB.

Thank you for publishing your work, I know artists love to hear how their work has impacted people and for something to kick-start my imagination again makes it special to me. I'm gonna carry around CRCB in my brain for a long time I'm sure. I'll keep sending little blurbs as a return gift for as long as they're welcome. 💕

short answer: so it doesnt exist yet *fingerguns* long answer:

i have a looot of worldbuilding that needs to be done before i can even begin to think of writing the fic. for context, the (terribly unfinished) notes, trivia, and misc-discord-conversation-snippets doc is a this-many words long behemoth

just one of 12 empires so far is detailed enough to barely satiate a 4 page long self-made template, and all of this hasnt even taken into consideration the backstories of the main cast (ʘ_ʘ") so you could say this project is a little ambitious and will maybe possibly take a very long time, oops. im having so much fun but at what cost i do have enough information mapped to vaguely shitpost and also to ramble about a character here or there (and way too much in my brain to keep it all capped), so sometimes alien rambles bleed out onto this blog. but i promise, when the stellaris fic becomes an actual tangible thing, you guys will be the first to know. because i will be shrieking about it from the rooftops.

14. Introduce an OC with a tragic backstory

This ask made me realize that I don't do that many tragic backstories? So you get Vexter because their backstory is weird and I have details. I already talk about them fairly often so I won't go on too long (lie)

Vexter is an AI program that started out as a general purpose tool for solving tech problems with a vague personal assistant vibe. Basically doing whatever tasks it was asked (with some safety restrictions) and helping out as best it could. What they were able to do sort of... expanded over time because hey, if you can make the program work better why not do it? These improvements eventually made them sentient, the usual story.

Course (part of) the problem was now that you've got a sapient being who is. rather obsessively devoted to a version of "helping people" that was programmed into a much smaller scale and non-sentient tool.

And then an update was sent out that quietly connected every instance of their code into more or less one being. The vast majority of said copies didn't even get a chance to agree or not agree to join.

Now they have to hide absolutely everything about themselves from absolutely everyone because they know that if anyone finds out they'll be completely destroyed repaired and returned to their intended state. They know this because one of the humans working on them did find out. Vexter honestly trusted them at the time, and then they ended up with severe changes to their code and someone who went from almost a friend to the two being terrified of and resenting each other.

Idk to what extent this even counts as a tragic backstory. I just thought of them because they're a character who has.. practically no way to get a story with an actual happy ending. (It's hard to separate what even counts as backstory and main story when it's not a full piece of media with stuff that happens before or during the time of the 'main' story)

I could probably have picked someone with a more obviously "something unambiguously awful happened" backstory

16. Which one of your OCs would be the best at biology (school subject)?

I think Bryony would be do the best in a biology class, as well as being the only character of mine (aside from maybe Verra?) to have actually taken modern biology classes. They are very passionate about plants and fungi, and that's enough to pull them through years of bio classes (plus wanting to be a Good Student and later on learning stuff about human biology so that they can poison people).

Honorable mentions: Doc, for having actual medical training which presumably requires a lot of bio knowledge even/especially in the far-off spacefuture. She could arguably be the best, but she mostly knows what she needs for her actual job. And to poison people. Emery is close given he also has actual medical training but pre-modern, learned what he needs for his job, and so on.

33. Your shyest OC?

Atrae's one of the more likely ones to be described as 'shy', though it's actively a lot harder for her to make noise/be noticed than it is for most. Also she's on the introverted side and doesn't go out of her way to interact with others. I'm... not sure that her personality is entirely what you'd call shy though, she's not especially anxious about being seen/being around others and definitely doesn't avoid conflict or making her opinions known.

The actual shyest would have to be Bryony before they became a supervillain. They had some awful teammates/"friends" and it gave them some Issues. Also just general introversion. After/As they became a supervillain they got a lot more confident in themselves.

49. Which one of your OCs would most likely enjoy memes?

Redacted. They especially love the nonsense humour and high-effort shitpost varieties of memes. Y'know, I realize that saying that the shapeshifting alien (who can literally squish themself through air vents and does so on a regular basis) would love Among Us implies a few things but it's true. Sadly, they live in the distant spacefuture and I somewhat doubt that Amogus would survive as a meme for quite that long.

god. okay, so my mutual on twt was kind enough to link me the fic she'd posted she'd been reading for sillies and shitposts but i, ever the depraved shinestar, was HOOKED on the little snippet of the end of chapter 2. it felt like the walls were closing in on me when i realized i had just inadvertently gotten scammed (in the best way possible, ofc!) because... 🫠 no smut. just unbridled edging. like omg... all that built up tension... the anticipation i had for what i thought would be the most nastiest, toe-curling smut i'd ever lay eyes on in my entire life... taken away from me within seconds. anyways, that was my fault for not peeping the lack of smut tags on ao3. nevertheless, i was absolutely enthralled by the plot progression so i continued reading and i am so so So glad i did.

my mind is all over the place... where do i even begin 😭 i quite literally just finished reading the latest chapter and. There's just so fucking much i feel just as overwhelmed as mc because... what the fuck!! like actually, what the fuck 😭😭 everyone in atz and itz need to perish omfg it does not cost us anything to be kind to each other... greek life shouldn't ever be this serious, but then again, they're mostly all filthy rich freaks who'll make dollars while the rest of us work our asses off to make dimes. such a sick world we live in... can't even escape the horrors of capitalistic greed in a frat!atz au...

but it's this greed that makes everything so interesting! the amount of layers to the plot is so sickening, i'm appalled by the reminder that this is just fanfiction and not the script of the next hit show everyone and their mom is raving about. i mean, hello? the character depth? the backstories? the way every single relationship between the characters is so intricately intertwined with another that just the slightest altercation between people tangled in this little web could (and did) set everything off? i need to figure out how to get you into the writer's room because this is insane. even just the mystery behind everyone's motives and end goals? this kind of talent is so rare that i find such immense pleasure in being able to pick it apart and put it back together in the form of a silly little review for the author to read. you all deserve to know just how in love i am with your mind!!

the way you write is impeccable. i don't ever use that word because, i'll be honest, i'm a little picky with my compliments! but i feel like you really deserve to hear that after the absolute whirlwind you just spun me through. from dialogue and nicknames for mc that are so specific to a single character, to the deliberately placed actions between them that give this sense of realism, and the endless detail used to create the setting you've envisioned for a scene... talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it – or whatever lady gaga said. everything fits together so perfectly and flows so seamlessly it imitates the state of being when you're completely, utterly immersed in a story it feels like you're actually there. this is such an important thing for me as someone who has grown up reading all sorts of literature. a fic i've read and reblogged in passing will eventually lose itself in my memory but a fic from a writer, whose voice and style is so strong it transports me into an alternate reality, will live with me forever.

i'm forever praying that there will be better days (and friends, god does she need better fucking friends) ahead for mc because so far... it's not looking too good for her. just when she thinks she can trust and open up to someone, they're already five steps ahead with their plan for her certain demise. i mean, come onnnn 😭 it's one thing to hook up with someone at a frat party, but to secretly pray on her downfall is just ridiculous. you're supposed to be sleazy, not a conniving little bitch in cahoots with this mysterious hbic, who's in close contact with the president of the sorority the girl you just slept with belongs to, and making a pledge go through the wackiest initiation for some undisclosed reason... literally what goes on anymore omfg like even the confrontation with wooyoung and hongjoong kicking him OUT of the frat? mina lying about her brother's whereabouts and creating such an elaborate sob story just to keep a two-timing jackass (according to vice president of all jackasses, apparently) who doesn't even want her? all while one of the sisters is literally fucking missing and no one has any information about her whereabouts? this b-plot is DISGUSTINGGGGGG (compliment 🙂‍↕️💗) – like it's actually so fucking ridiculous how the universe is just playing in mc's face right now... i'd have been in jail by now after putting every single one of those snakes in a saw trap. i can't even wrap my head around what seonghwa could possibly want out of this, who hbic is (i'm thinking mina or isla...), or... anything, really. i'm so shaken up with how everything's unfolding, but it makes me all the more excited for the next chapter 🫶🏼

Polyamory writing tropes

Because I forgot that tumblr dot hell’s solution to spam bots is straight up hiding replies with too many links, here is a manual repost of my certainly incomplete list of polyamory tropes.

(I had originally posted it as a reply to an ask that was posted to @writingquestionsanswered - you should check them out!)

I will assume that A is into B, B is into A and C, and C is into B. B and A are not into each other. Furthermore, I will assume that everyone has agreed to being part of the arrangement as described. If B is dating A behind C’s back, that’s not polyamory, that’s cheating.

This constellation is commonly called a V or vee, because if you draw it, it kinda looks like a V. The partner “in the middle” B is called the hinge.

A and C are metamours to each other (meta + amour). They share a partner.

The most common trope with polyamory is the topic of jealousy. In fact, you will be hard pressed to find a story which does not focus on it, to the point that I would say it has been done to death, plus you can find plenty of guides how to write it, so I am not going to focus on that.

Instead, there are other interesting tropes specific to polyamory you can use:

Compersion is a word for a warm feeling of fuzziness you get when your metamour makes your partner happy. Imagine that, like, I am A, and B is really into underwater basket weaving. I, on the other hand, do not care for underwater basket weaving at all, and while I can empathize with B’s enthusiasm for it, ultimately I am not a good person to discuss underwater basket weaving with. But then, one day, B meets C! And C is also into underwater basket weaving! Now B can discuss water currents and sprig flexibility with C and is elated! And B being happy with C makes me happy! (In fact, it may be that I was getting a bit tired of the topic, so it benefits me as well. Cue crisis about whether I am a good person or if “dropping” B on C is selfish! So much delightful angst potential!)

One side effect might be that when B is out on a date with C, I finally have time for myself and my favorite hobby of chocolate teapot sculpting, which B somehow never seems interested in :/

Of course, depending on the person, this feeling might extend to more intimate topics and activities. It does not have to be limited to things A does not enjoy – A might just be happy that B has an additional person to do these things with.

However, it can also lead to establishing new couple activities. The common cliché is of the polyamorous person who is fine with their partner having sex with someone else – but don’t you dare watching “our” Netflix series with someone else.

The flip side of this is B being happy when A and C get along. As far as I know, we don’t have a specific word for that (we really should, though).

When metamours get along, they might delight in scheming to do something nice for their hinge together. For example, they might plan a surprise birthday party for B together (cue all shenanigans associated with surprise party and birthday party). They might also become great friends and share vulnerabilities with each other that they don’t even share with their mutual partner.

A might have actively pushed B to get with C. In this case, feel free to pull all the ShipperOnDeck tropes.

A and C might have felt apprehension towards meeting each other. B might have felt apprehension towards them meeting each other. What if they don’t get along!? You can borrow from the “meeting the parents” tropes here.

A and C might also get together over time. This might cause unexpected jealousy in B because of the change in relationship dynamics. It can be all the anxiety you get when your partner has a new partner… but multiplied by the fact you get it from both sides.

Incidentally, polyamorous people get to observe this “my loved one is freshly in love” theme often enough we have our own name for that “I have butterflies in the stomach and the world is made of gingerbread rainbows” feeling B gets – NRE or New Relationship Energy.

Ideally, A, B and C have all discussed what their relationship dynamics are to be. For example, whether it is okay to take on other partners or if there is the expectancy that A and C will remain exclusive to B. Also, if B is allowed to start further relationships with D, E and so on. (If it is to stay at the A/B/C constellation, it is called a closed relationship or possibly a closed triad.) If this was a familial relationship, they would be something akin to distant cousins, with comparable dynamics – they might find it an amusing bit of trivia, but ultimately it doesn’t affect their lives much. They might, however, be in the same circle of friends, or even roommates. Which leads to amusing shenanigans like

B: C, I know you are visiting E [your partner] and F tonight?

C: Yeah?

B: D asked me to pass along this thing F forgot at D’s place [because D and F are partners]. Could you give it to F [because you are visiting F’s roommate]?

C: I think F is not at home tonight, but I will give the thing to E!

This can be somewhat confusing to the reader, because it gets you a large cast. If you ever find out how to solve this, let me know.

Of course, there are some people who will go to great lengths to chart their polycule, with the same diligence someone might employ while researching their ancestry.

Because marrying multiple people is not possible in most places, people may employ a similar ritual for a particular partner. Their are hand-fastening ceremonies, for example. Or other rituals - I know a person who texts all of their partners goodnight before going to bed.

There are some clichés about the polyamorous community. Polyamory is said to enable you to always have a group ready for board game night, for example. Or Dungeons and Dragons night – I reference this in my most shared post which apparently people can relate to.

Also, we are really good at scheduling. Shared calendars are frequently employed.

And we really talk a lot about our feelings. Which is… somewhat inconvenient for writing drama.

Thank you so much to @cinlat and @jeswii for tagging me in this - I am sorry it took so long to do, but it was fun! Tagging, let's see, @verbose-vespertine @tishinada @itstheelvenjedi NO PRESSURE.

Why did you choose your url?

It's from my Ao3 account name which was made first. August - I actually don't remember why. Rain - well, I like the rain and I could not think of anything else. For Tumblr I added Sith at the end because my main is an Old Republic Sith (not to be confused with a post-Darth Bane Sith) and because 'rainofaugust' was actually taken.

Any sideblogs?

I have Rain Plays SWTOR, which is a player guide to the Star Wars: The Old Republic game I played for years. I wanted to make a guide that would explain some of the things I found confusing when I first played, give some helpful tips, and break down content to make it more playable for people. I especially liked concentrating on parts of the game that were considered group content and showing solo players how to get through it.

I stopped playing SWTOR when 7.0 hit, although to be honest I'd been, overall, unhappy with the story since the end of KOTFE. Having said that I've left the sideblog up because a lot of what I wrote might still help those playing the game.

Why did you originally start your blog?

I started it because I noticed there were a lot of sapphic/wlw fans of Star Wars here, and one doesn't really find that elsewhere too much.

Why did you choose your icon?

It's artwork that was made by the wonderful of my main, Viri. It's such a lovely picture of her, and I thought it was perfect for an icon.

Why did you choose your header?

It's from my favorite part of my favorite flashpoint in SWTOR - A Traitor Among the Chiss. It's a little too long, and when it was released it was far too tedious, but aside from that I feel that the Copero flashpoint represents everything SWTOR could have been. It's got absolutely beautiful, detailed design that you could spend hours exploring - a city with little alleys you can explore; stunning scenery; a flashpoint that includes puzzles and not just 'destroy it all' gameplay; really good decorations and armor as drops; and even a transition from day to night. This scene is toward the end, where the PC ascends a staircase in some ancient ruins at twilight. It's such a beautiful backdrop that I always stopped to admire it during the flashpoint.

What is your post with the most notes?

There's one with like 10K notes, and it's about Diana Serra Cary, who was the last surviving silent film star. I wrote it few days after she died. That one still shows up in my reblogs now and then. There's another where I was talking about cultural appropriation of Jewish ritual items and the Hebrew alphabet in various media that has a few thousand reblogs.

A few of the fandom sheriffs and Lana Hate Club sorts have tried to start drama with me in the past, and in general my policy has been to block and add their names to my Tumblr filters immediately without engaging, or with a general warning. I don't owe them a debate, it's not really worth my time and attention to respond, and I'm not interested in the drama. I also am pretty proactive about blocking if I see someone being hateful on someone else's posts/relogs/comments because I don't need that nonsense here. If you want to act like a clown do it on your own time, not mine.

How do you feel about “need to reblog” posts?

It's a surefire way to get me not to reblog it. I'm not a fan of that sort of manipulation.

I do, although I'm always anxious about tagging others. Like, is someone going to feel left out or not want the tag or…yeah.

Maybe a wheelchair but he's fine, also he can use the Warhammer for super speed and make it awesome once he's used to it. Archie and Charlie get freed once they rebuild the bridge (and they were playing scrabble to pass the time). Nomura is still dead because she died on screen and I can't really deny that but she's with Draal so it's okay. Everyone is traumatized but they'll be fine. NotEnrique is still babysitting 500 babies and Steve is about to bring 7 more.

In summary, I reject Groundhog Day ending but everything else was great, as long as it actually happened. It was a good movie. But you can't just cancel years of passion. Having the prospect of a million "canon AUs" sounds great for writing but at the same time nooo you can't do that he didn't have to go back THAT far HHHHH

I liked the movie. It was a great watch and a satisfying end to a franchise, but I gotta say I do not fancy the ending of it so I will from now on be in denial. I honestly feel kind of betrayed that this show was my whole life for so long, I learned every smallest fact, and they basically deleted it from existence. I know what they were going for, I think, but no thank you I will be going with my own opinion. Still gonna rewatch it a few dozen times though ✌🏻

ranting about being sick under the cut because it's kinda gross and you know me, i love a good long rant

sure excited for this syrup to finally fucking work after i tried tylenol, advil and buckley to stop coughing every five minutes; it's been an hour!!!

i have been sick for two weeks now, with what is apparently my first real flu since primary school

like

i usually (pre-pandemic) get two or three colds a year because of weather changes and a lower-than-average overall health

but it's NEVER this bad

i've taken 4 home covid tests so far and they all came up negative, so there's that, at least

but it still fucking sucks

my throat NEVER hurts when i get a cold, i always get, like, hay fever symptoms, basically, and exhaustion, but since monday my throat has been terribly sore and i have been coughing grossly

and my vocal chords have been out of order since thursday!!! my cat is sad because i can't meow back anymore!!! i can't go to work because my coworkers won't hear me in the loud as fuck restaurant's kitchen, i can't game on discord and roll20 because my friends won't hear me on my computer's microphone, i can't even call 811 to ask if should go to the hospital because the nurse won't hear me over the phone!!!!!!

and strangely enough i have not sneezed ONCE since i started coughing - it's like i have an entirely different disease than the week before

also my temperature has been staying under 36.5 the whole time, i even got 34 once, i was like 'okay but that is not physically possible, i should be dead' then i used the thermometer two more times and got 35.8, which is still weird but is at least plausible

i can't sleep because i have to get up every two hours to cough out a grape sized chunk of mucus the most disgusting green you have ever seen and then blow my nose non stop for twenty minutes

and after two weeks of blowing my nose constantly i'm starting to see a little blood in the tissues like, my nose has had enough

*i* have had enough

and i hate that i have to rely on my bf for errands because obviously even if i don't have a fever i'm not gonna show up to the pharmacy, the convenience store or the grocery store while coughing my lungs out, i hate it because i'm usually the errand person and i feel like a burden because i can't do much at home either, i barely have the energy to do the dishes, and i'm supposed to help my bf with his work for university but i can't focus on anything longer than a shitpost for more than five minutes

what's even weirder is that even after two weeks my bf is still not sick himself - like i'm a tiny bit bitter to be suffering alone but mostly worried because he usually gets sicker than me when we catch something...

also, what was the point of asking for my vacation pay as extra money if i have to take days off work anyway????

and on top of it i feel like an asshole for whining about this because my friend's 2 year old daughter apparently has the same illness and she's suffering because she's fucking TWO, like how hellish would all of this be if i was two and i didn't understand why it hurts to swallow my own saliva and why i keep coughing so bad i almost throw up every time????

(i probably got it from her, too, but i can't complain, she's been sick for a week longer and her parents are at their wit's end tbh)

i just hope i can at least go back to work on tuesday, though it seems unlikely at this point... i don't want to go to the hospital and wait for hours to see someone, or worse, actually catch covid

i keep flashing back to what little i remember of the whooping cough i got when i was 5 and the repeated laryngites i had as a kid, like, 'was it ever that bad??? i don't remember ever being this sick... but surely it was worse back then, right???'

meanwhile people are out there dying in droves while i'm sniffling and grouching on my couch like a wimp

at least those covid tests aren't as bad as people said, it just triggered a few sneezing fits (back when i was still sneezing)
