Nex didn't deserve to die.

Warning: This is a massive rant that deals with heavy topics. It's long, it's blunt, but I want to share this because quite frankly, it's sickening and I want to use my platform for good.

On February 19th 2024, I heard something that really drove me and others up a wall:

Nex was brutally murdered by 3 female bullies in their school all because they are human. With no help from their own school system to save them, it's no surprise why they deserve the criticism for their inaction.

Now why did I say, because "they are human" instead of "they are non-binary"? I'm not denying they are non-binary, as a non-binary myself it is disturbing to hear such awful news. I am not ignoring this critical information. They are valid.

Truth is, I want to highlight their HUMANITY because the LGBT community are humans like you.

I never met Nex personally, but I feel a deep connection with them as a fellow non-binary person. I know what it's like to face bullying, harassment, and discrimination for being who I am. Even before I came out as non-binary, growing up with autism, I know the pain. Middle School was a pain for me because of it, it led me to hate myself. I know what it's like to live in fear and pain, to struggle with self-acceptance and self-love. I'm happy that their family accepted them for who they are and I feel sorry for their loss as well. This shouldn't have happened.

The more I think about this, the worse it gets. If Nex was not non-binary, if they were just another student that day, how would the public react? Everyone would be outraged and demand justice! But because Nex was non-binary, I have seen a lot of people, a lot of DISGUSTING people, say that they deserved it and that they were NOT HUMAN. In fact, that is why I hooked y'all's attention by saying that they are murdered because "they are human". I want to make this clear: Regardless of gender identity, Nex's inherent humanity is first and foremost.

As I see those countless comments pile up minute after minute, hour after hour... all I can mutter is "why?"

How can anyone promote and celebrate a death of another human being for just being themselves? How can anyone love to deny the humanity of others because they expressed their souls for who they are? How can anyone celebrate deaths of others who love the same gender, who become trans, or non-binary? Even after everything is set and stone, literally how?

And if these "people" who hate them do believe in some god or religion, why would they be hypocrites to their own god? Didn't their god say "Love thy neighbor", and "Don't bear false witness"? How can they claim to follow their faith, when they violate its most basic principles? I have a dad who practices religion sometimes but not a lot, I told him about this and the hypocritical nature of some of these people. The best way he worded it is this: "they can't claim to love god if they bastardize their teachings. God will roll their eyes and send them straight to hell."

Is this what humanity is now? Celebrating the death of innocents who their "crime" is living their best life?

There is no political two-sided debate on this issue. In fact, THERE NEVER WAS.

We are human, just like everyone else. We are human, and we matter.

And if I can for a moment, I notice a common theme here when it comes to these horrendous acts:

For a lot of these people that hate the LGBT community but love freedoms like free speech, it is pretty telling how much these people care about themselves and not practicing what the constitution preaches. It's hilarious yet baffling. Remember the book bans? They love to say it's to protect the kids but their ulterior motives prove otherwise. They targeted government public libraries all across the country claiming that books who celebrate being different are a "cancer". It wouldn't be surprising if they cheered for KOSA, a sweeping censorship law masquerading as child protection, but in reality, aimed at tightening control over Americans like myself to limit our expression. They want to censor and silence our stories, our voices, our experiences. They want to erase and deny our existence, our diversity, our humanity. They want to ban books that feature stories that say it's ok to be different. They want to forbid us from wearing clothes that express our gender identity or challenge gender stereotypes, even if they are harmless and comfortable. They are afraid of "drag", which is just fabric and makeup, which is hilarious how they managed to get so worked up on that.

Even more hilarious is the fact that they "claim" to hate China, Russia, and other authoritarian countries for their censorship, but they are damn eager to emulate it here in the "land of the free". Passing laws that blatantly violate our rights and our constitution every day. How do they not see the irony? It's pretty god damn telling right? Almost as if their version of "freedom" is not free for the people, but free for themselves. Freedom of expression is not selective, it is universal. If you respect the right of others to have different political views, you should also respect the right of others to have different identities.

"Land of the free" am I right? By expressing these statements, you really are no different from the countries you claim to hate.

This world is a cruel place, and the people that are cruel are the most pathetic people of all. Especially those that:

Be afraid of people using rooms with toilets all because they are different.

Be hateful and violent towards people who are different from them.

Be ignorant and arrogant about the diversity and complexity of human nature.

Be offended over people wearing fabric and clothing that is different from the norm that promotes their expression.

I’m not taking this post down. Say what you want on what I think, but we tried explaining this to you many times, the facts are all there clear as day and clear as crystal.

We are human.

i'm an anti but i've been following a bunch of proship blogs for a while, you being one of them. i'm anti censorship and anti harassment which i guess would technically make me proship, but there's a few things that's always bothered me about it.

(using general "you" here btw, not you specifically warmshotamilk)

For one, being anti censorship goes both ways. If someone else wants to post on their own blogs about whatever weird shit you posted, they have the right to do so, and it feels hypocritical to get upset about whatever people say about you. Even if it's a lot of people, even if they're being mean to you on TikTok, even if you don't like what they're saying about you. They still have the right to talk about the thing you posted publicly online, and proshippers should be just as concerned with their freedom of speech as yours.

And for two, the fiction someone chooses to consume can completely change how i feel about them. i don't think i completely agree with the idea that interest in fiction doesn't indicate interest in real life. not all lolicons are pedophiles obviously, but i think it should be cause for alarm. it's like violent video games. a violent video game with lots of gore and blood won't make someone want to kill people, but it will attract players who already want to kill people. i think the same applies to sexual fiction too related to harmful fetishes, and i think it's a huge red flag.

1. I actually agree. I generally don't fucking care if an anti is being an anti on their own blog. They're allowed to be stupid on their own blog, they can do whatever. It's just like people saying other shit I disagree with, I will usually ignore it

Replying to someone saying that they're wrong, that they're being stupid, that they're spreading misinformation is not censorship. They can say whatever they like but so can we

Also, going back to "even if they're being mean to you," at some point that could (not always, but could) cross into genuine harassment involving threats and/or suicide baiting and that is generally against the TOS on most sites. Reporting someone for doing that sort of thing is also not censorship, nor would it be a breach of freedom of speech. It'd be moderation

2. I'm sorry, I just can't get behind that type of thinking at all. I do not think any type of fiction someone makes or consumes should be regarded as a "red flag" at all and, and I am saying this as nicely as I can, I think it says something about you as a person to judge someone on their fiction consumption rather than their actions as a person. I will not think any less of someone for playing violent, gory videos games if they are kind to people in real life. Even if they play daily, even if they get really into it, as long as they are kind to real people then I couldn't give less of a shit

I just cannot subscribe to the idea that what someone likes in fiction says something about who they are as a person. There are loads of people who like shows like Steven Universe or Voltron who turn out to be the most vile pieces of human filth imaginable. Liking soft, fluffy media does not make someone a good person and liking dark, dirty media does not make someone a bad person. Fiction tells you nothing about a person except what they like to see in fiction

I have varied opinions on c!techno. I think he's interesting because I don't see a lot of genuine good to them as well as being morally terrible. He's diehard loyal to a select few people. He'll kill his allies without a second apology. He has a strict set of morals. Said morals are almost more ruthless than killing as he pleases. He makes long speeches on other people's morality. He does not and will not attempt to understand situations more than he already does.

I really wish they had canonized the Antarctic Empire fully because I think he was already a hypocrite and I think him being a former imperialist who gave it up and now is a challenge seeking anarchist with no interest in the longterm effects of his actions and a dog-eat-dog worldview would be interesting

a similar thing can be said in pogtopia. its implied on several occasions (mostly from wilbur's pov, but again, techno from techno's perspective is damn near a different character) that technoblade was aware that wilbur was going to destroy lmanburg, knew that he likely was going to die in the explosion, and was either complicit or encouraging in this plan. which when you look at the cwilbur finale and how lmanburg represented his friendships (and really you don't have to go as far as the finale, its all throughout lmanburg's history), its again, very sinister.

with ranboo, i believe there was a scene where he literally backed him against a wall, after bonding over their shared social anxiety and willingness to succumb to peer pressure, to join the syndicate and go against snowchester, which i will remind you is the nation ran by ranboo's husband who technoblade executed. again, humorous from techno's perspective but from ranboo's hes terrifying.

so techno's supposed virtue of loyalty is something i find difficult to see. to me, hes not even particularly lawful and driven by ideology. hes driven by a similar thing wilbur and dream are, the desire to be seen as powerful. and under "anarchism" (what techno believes anarchism is about) techno would be the most powerful person, so thats the ideology he drifts towards. but its not like he cares about the wellbeing or freedom of the people around him as you would expect an anarchist to do. and for all of his loyalty the only person he is "loyal" to is himself, and he is willing to accept help from others if they are also loyal to him. and thats the loyalty you see, which is why he feels "betrayed" every time someone disagrees with him.

its not necessarily that hes a hypocrite so much that he is not driven by what he says he is driven by. his sole motivation above all else is to be seen as powerful. he doesnt like governments telling him what to do, so he destroys them. when a dictator calls on him to execute someone and he is faced with either leaving the stage and being called a coward, or displaying his strength by going through with the execution, he goes through with it. he apologizes only when he knows the person will help him if he does. once you realize this, you realize that everything that techno does is perfectly in line with it and there is no hypocrisy within his character other than ones you project onto him.

and thats why hes nearly as bad as cdream is to me. but its also why hes one of my favorite characters.

On Saturday, at my local Pride, all the speeches were so fucking hypocritical. Somehow, this "beautiful democracy" with its values "of freedom and equality" is the end all and be all of queer liberation, where we get to freely be ourselves, unlike the evil, evil Russia where queer people are terrorists, in one speech. And then the next speech, hell sometimes even the SAME speech, rightly decries that the work in Germany is not done. Hate crime is on the rise, funds for queer centres and housing are constantly being cut, the gender self-determination laws introduced last year are entirely insufficient, and queer healthcare and eductation is virtually non-existent.

So clearly these oh-so great Western democracies don't care that much about us queers at all! Definitely not as much they pretend to whenever elections roll around. The fucking pride was led by a politician of the FDP, the liberal party! The liberal party in the ruling coalition of Germany! The liberal party that designed the insufficient self-determination laws, that cuts healthcare and social housing, that tried to get its state minister candidate elected in the last state elections of Thuringia USING VOTES FROM THE AFD!!!! Which was only stopped by massive protests all over the state!!!! This is who you put at the head of this pride??? This is who you want me to vote for??? People who are actively making the lives of queer, AND non-queer, people WORSE????

They say they want peace but in action only want war, which they say is the only way to achieve peace. Even the alleged "peace" party, the Green party, which I've actually voted for every time I've voted in my life, which cares oh-so much about the environment is willing to cut down on preservation, healthcare, education, infrastructure to send billions of Euros worth of weapons into this warzone so they can kill, kill, and kill, and destroy the environment while they're at it, too.

And now that Germany can't get cheap money from Russia anymore, guess what this Green party is greenlighting, alongside these other "progressive parties"? Firing up coal plants, the only fossil fuel Germany fucking has. When there was an occupation of a former coal mining town, Lützerath, guess which party the police chief who ordered and oversaw the violent breaking up of the occupation was a member of? The Greens. These environmentalists care so little about the environment and so much about the economy that they'll use violence to pump as much CO2 into the atmosphere as possible, just so Germany can cheaply produce its exports to expensively sell to its puppet states. Filth.

And the SPD? The party that once led the cause of the working class? The party that then sent that working class to die en masse in WW1? That betrayed the socialist revolution? That let fascists walk all over the working class and just let them take power? They're as spineless as ever. They sit by and "mediate". They do jackshit. No, they do more. They participate. They send weapons. They deport. They crack down on pro-Palestine protests. I'm mad about voting tonight (as I have been since my city's Pride on Saturday)

So I live in Thuringia, a state of the former GDR. The former GDR states, or East Germany, are generally depicted as being full of neonazis (true to an extent) and as "having never learned how democracy really works" (not true to an extent). Three of these states are holding state elections in September, Thuringia and Saxony on this Sunday and Brandenburg at the end of the of the month. In all three states the far-right AfD is projected to earn the largest share of the votes (around 30% in all cases).

As context, living standards are pretty drastically worse in East Germany compared to West Germany and East German economy, industry, and infrastructure were drastically deconstructed after the "reunification", which saw the state-owned industry very quickly privatized, usually sold off to the much richer Western companies. East Germany was essentially plundered and has actually seen a population degrowth, despite most of the refugees from the Arabic world being put here. For example, the only city in Thuringia that has grown since 1990 is the city I live in, Jena, which has managed to stay relevant due to its university and college, as well as industry fairly unique in Germany. It's still a fairly small city and has seen nowhere the growth rate as Western centers of industry like Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, and Mainz.

East Germany essentially doesn't know a "good capitalism", the way the West remembers the World Economic Wonder. All it has known is crisis, and crisis far worse than in the West. The majority of settlements, even cities, are absolute deadends here with aging populations because the youth is fleeing to cities with a future. Leipzig and Berlin if they want to, or can't afford to move, stay in the East, or basically any major Western city.

This sort of instability, lack of certainty, and lack of a future is what opens people up to politics that want to break with the current system because the current system is obviously not working. And they're right. It isn't. Thuringia, despite what is being projected, actually has the most leftist government out of all states at the moment after a huge surge in votes for the Left party in the 2019 elections. People were tired of the liberal politics of the SPD and CDU and voted in the self-described socialists. Alas, self-described they remained because, now that they had their seats, the Left was eager to fall in line. The people of Thuringia voted as left as it gets in Germany and they got nothing out of it.

It's only logical that they'll swing right to the AfD, which is now the only (well except the newest party, which is a little too new) "untested" party. It hasn't ruled anywhere in the ~10 years of its existence, but it has used these 10 years well to build itself up as the "answer" to the current political system. It isn't, but that doesn't matter as long as it talks to people where it hurts and takes that hurt to aim it at the wrong people.

The success of the AfD is a direct result of the actions of the other parties. In a bourgeois democracy, these parties ultimately serve the purpose of the nation's capital, its economy and the owners of that economy. They do not serve the people, as they claim, they serve capitalism. This is becoming more and more obvious. The AfD is the only party left with the benefit of the doubt. Really, it barely has that. A large share of its voters are voting it not out of belief but out of protest because they just want the others out, much like many Trump voters only vote Trump because they want Biden out. Sound familiar, by the way?

That's why a vote for the other parties is not a vote against the AfD, and also why a vote for the Democrats is not a vote against Trump. They're votes for them at a later date.

Actually Biden vs Trump 2020 is a great example. People did it. They went out to vote. Trump was unelected. Biden got into office. What changed? What genuinely changed? Nothing. The crisis of capitalism only worsened and the Democrats hardly did anything to stop it. They cracked down on strikes. They cut public funds. They supported war after war. They continued to rule just as before. They maintained the status quo. Voting changed nothing. Now, four years later, we're back in the same place. Trump is back with a vengeance, and the best the Democrats have to offer is Kamala Harris. But even if Harris wins... what will change? Why would the Democrats suddenly change their ways? All they had to do was cry wolf and everyone came to help them, helped them maintain their seats, helped them maintain the status quo. Why change? Why fix a system that's running for you, even if it isn't running for anyone else? Another four years will pass. The Republicans will once again run Trump or someone similar, and they'll be stronger again because even more people will be absolutely tired of the Democrats running their lives into the ground. Maybe the Democrats will edge out another win. But another four years will pass, and another four years will pass after that.

The same is happening in Thuringia. People are calling for an all-party coalition to block the AfD, a popular front. That might work, especially because no party is willing to coalesce with the AfD (well the state CDU is but the national CDU has the final word in that and they won't allow it because it'd be political suicide because the CDU is the reactionary party for reactionaries for whom the AfD is too radical). What would that change, though? These parties would not suddenly start running the state differently, not at all. They'd continue the politics which have been pushing people to the AfD for 10 years. Plus, the whole "marketing" strategy of the AfD is that they're public enemy #1, that all the other parties want to keep them from power because they'd "really" care about Germans, unlike those other parties which care more about evil Arabs and the lazy unemployed than the hardworking, good-natured Arya- Germans. A popular front would only strengthen that narrative and make the AfD even more appealing!!!! Living standards would continue to drop and the AfD would start making sense to more and more people.

This popular front might stop them now, but five years will pass! And five years will pass again!

The answer to all of this is that something needs to change. Genuinely, drastically change. These so-called progressive parties are clearly unable to stop the advancement of reactionary forces. These reactionary forces are continuously radicalized by the drastic drop in living standards that are occurring all over the world. And why? Because wages are stagnating, while profits are skyrocketing. Because rent is too high and groceries cost too much and you can't go to the doctor because you either can't afford it or the waiting list has you on an appointment in four months. Or both. Because there's money for seemingly everything and everyone except you or the people you care about. No money for welfare, but all the money for warfare.

The so-called progressive parties have proven time and time again that they are not that change. They're the status quo. They'll defend that status quo with their lives. They stand in the way of our lives improving and therefore produce the conditions by which reactionary forces grow. Reactionary forces feed off of this desire for change by turning it backwards. We also need to do the same, but turn it forwards. Take that desire for change and create a revolutionary force that will sweep aside the system that is keeping us all down: capitalism.

This is why I'm not voting on Sunday. I'm not telling you not to vote in whatever election might be coming up for you, I am asking you to recognize that this system is a sham. Your "vote against x" is not good enough because this system does not want "good enough". Make what choice you want, I'd rather not waste my time in the booth when I could spend that time studying the ideas necessary to build that revolutionary force.

The wall titans will take days or even weeks before they realistically reach the shores of Marley. Are we supposed to ignore that line or is it retconned or what? Many of the analysis I see base off of post timeskip Eren with no POV and ignoring established themes. I just see a lot of theory about big bad Eren and I can't help but wonder considering the scene was emphasized by both Grisha and Kruger. I feel like something is missing

These asks can be answered together. I am also sorry for the wait since it has been a while since  I have received them.

I have talked about Eren here and in particular I have said this:

Finally, when it comes to Eren’s future development, I currently see two possibilities.

a)  Either we are given more information through Historia and his POV and this new information can modify the reading of Eren’s actions up until now.

b) He will grow and develop because of the actions of the   other characters exactly like them will grow because of his current   ones.

I think that point a and b which describe two possible ways in which Eren can gain future development lead to two different machro-theories I see going around.

1) Eren plans to turn himself into humaniy’s enemy, so that humanity can join hands, fight him and overcome their struggle in the meantime.

2) Eren’s wish to protect his home and loved ones coupled with his future memories led him to think that destroying the world is the only way he can ensure Paradis safet and so he is doing so even if he knows it is wrong.

I call them “machro-theories” because they can be interpreted in numerous ways and each one has a different nuance and a different spin to it. I am also sure that other explanations could be found, but, as for now, they are the two I find more plausible.

They can both make sense under certain conditions and I think they are the two ones that would have the more foreshadowing if proven true.

Now, let’s address some points you make against theory 2 and in favor of theory 1.

1) The boy with the fez.  I don’t think him appearing in Eren’s memories disproves nor proves anything. Him appearing in Eren’s memories shows how much important was that night for Eren himself. It is the last night he spends with the people he loves before leaving them and starting to act coldly towards them. What is more, the child is a person who reminds Eren of his past self since he is a victim of war and a refugee like he was. Because of this, it makes sense that Eren was such impressed by the child since he represents both his past self and how people outside and inside the walls are the same.

As a matter of fact even if Eren is indeed doing what he seems to be doing it does not mean that he does not realize its gravity (different from the Jeagersists). He clearly does. That is why he cries after seeing the child. It is because he realizes he will die together with other people when he activates the Rumbling. Or at least the hapter implies this.

Alternatively, in case theory 1 is correct, Eren crying might simply be because he is somehow giving up on his past and possibly on his future since he knows he needs to sacrifice himself.

2) Eren’s speech to the world Eldians.

As the first anon said in their asks, it might be a trick Eren is using to stage himself as the only true monster in order to unite the world against him.

Alternatively, someone (whose name I don’t remember, so tell me if yuou know) noticed that the Founding Titan powers seem to work without specific restrictions. So, for example, when Eren ordered that all the hardening had to become undone, not only the walls, but also Reiner and Annie resented of the effect of Eren’s order. So, Eren might have wanted to announce his plan only on the Eldians of Paradis, but ended up bradcasting to all the world Eldians. That said, I don’t find the theory that convincing even if it is interesting simply because Eren’s words seem to be directed to all Eldians.

3) Eren as an antagonist being against the themes.

To this I disagree. As a matter of fact a way to explore a theme is to have the MC have a tragic arc which embodies the opposite of a story themes. Because of this, having Eren who wants freedom ending up representing freedom’s opposite can be an effective way to explore the theme of “freedom”. If anything Eren manipulating everyone, so that things go according to his plan is something which risks not to fit with the idea of freedom. As a matter of fact, having a single character giving “freedom” to others through manipulation seems kind of hypocritical. That said, there could be ways in which theory 1 can be proven true without this happening. So we’ll see.

4) Kruger’s words. I have talked about Kruger’s words here:

He might be doing it because he has seen  Kruger mentioning to Grisha that if he learns to use this power  correctly he can save Mikasa, Armin and everyone else. All in all, just  this hope might be enough for him to push forward in a confused hell despite the fact he has only partial information and that he might very well mess up in the process.

In short, the panel of Kruger mentioning Armin and Mikasa is clearly important and I think that that panel together with the one of Mikasa in chapter one have still to be explained and will be in the future. What is more, I think they are connected to the Attack Titan piower somehow.

When it comes to Kruger’s words it is possible that, as I say above, Eren is also animated by them in doing what he is doing. As a matter of fact being told by my future self that doing something will save the lives of people I love might be a reason good enough to do whatever I am told. I also think we might see Eren sending himself this message in future chapters.

In conclusion, both theories 1 and 2 are still possible. They have both positive and negative aspects to them.

For example, having theory 1 be true would make difficult to understand why Eren could not simply tell the others about it. Why did he have to risk the destruction of the world hoping that a bunch of people who could have died countless times would join together and stop him against all odds? This is something which seriously needs to be addressed not to make the whole situation ridiculous and it can be addressed either by adding plot-points which make Eren’s choices understandable or by clearly showing that Eren was wrong not to tell others.

At the same time, for theory 2 to be true there is the need to find a convincing reason why both Historia and Eren’s POV have been hidden from us up until now. If Eren wants to destroy the world and that is, why have we not been shown his pov and why is there still mystery about a meeting between him and Historia? Similarly, there is the fact that it makes no sense for Eren to have told Floche his plan and not people he truly cared about. As a matter of fact even if he wants to destroy the world, why should he want a group like the Jeagersists rule over Paradis considering they are a threath to people like Hange and Levi he cares about?

All in all, why is he pushing Armin and Mikasa and the others away? No matter what theory is true, it must address this point.

Summer, there are no classes and I suddenly became interested in the headlining event that created a bitter controversy among artists, fans, and people all over the world.

The tragic death of K-Pop star Jonghyun from Shinee in the late 2017 had definitely broken the hearts of his family, friends, co-workers, and Shawols. However, mixed reactions were gathered from other people, either critics or other fandoms that gave me also mixed feelings of bitter-hate-sadness-sympathy.

Jonghyun’s band members Onew, Key, Minho and Taemin had decided to say a proper farewell to their departed brother with Shawols in their concert held in Japan. They surely delivered a heartful/hurtful performance, singing their hit, “From Now On” with Jonghyun’s voice evident in the backing tracks. The members broke into tears prompting more Shawols to mourn with them. Sadly, not all perceived the performance for what they really intend, instead others insultingly believe that they did it as a marketing strategy.

This is the type of society we currently live in: ignorant, hypocritical, cynical people who spend their time insensitively judging others for whatever reason they have: because it is fun; because they think throwing hurtful comments makes them cooler; crab mentals pulling others just so they can feel good about themselves.

As an observant member of various fandoms, not only I write this just because I just think it is right, but I write this as a message to everyone. No matter the race, age, gender, identity we have, we are all humans with different personalities, privilege, identities but same rights.

We have the rights and freedom of speech and at the same time, we have our responsibilities. These rights given/mandated to us should NOT be abused, and should be treated or used rightfully — and that means we should think wisely of our words and actions, think about the unwanted possibilitites like how they can violate the rights of others. In that way, we can abate the impact of our actions and hopefully prevent unwanted incidents such as suicide.

As with Jonghyun and fellow artists, there is no denying they may look like they are unreal, perfect beings, but they are no different from us ordinary beings. They are also people with emotions and a life so precious to their loved ones they left at home. Before they rose to fame, they were children with big dreams they wanted to pursue.

One of Jonghyun’s last words were his expression of deep sorrow and regret for the path he chose, that fame was not meant for him. Well, I personally disagree because from the clips I watched of him, he was a talented man filled with passion and great potential. He had created compositions/masterpieces for other artists to perform, for people to hear. His voice is of high range, as people say he was one of the greatest vocalists in K-pop.

He suffered great depression in which he resorted to ending his own life because anti-depressants cannot numb the agonizing pain he felt during the past years.

Depression may seem a shallow disorder that many people can feel on sad winters, melancholic days, but i tell you this: it is serious. In fact, over 25 million are suffering from it in America, with 50% resulting to suicide. Mental disorders such as this should not be taken casually.

Now, as a newbie in the fandom, my stand is resilient enough that the remaining Shinee members are strong men who remained professional despite their personal hardships and difficult obstacles thrown at them. Their potency in picking up the pieces and continuing to put smiles on their fans’ faces is genuinely admirable that I firmly say those boys are worth fighting for.

So here is Jonghyun’s heartbreaking last words as it reads as below:

"I am damaged from the inside. The depression that has been slowly eating away at me has completely swallowed me, and I couldn't win over it.

I hated myself. I tried to hold on to breaking memories and yelled at myself to get a grip, but there was no answer.

I really tried reading your posts, but I don't get it. What's the ELI5 explanation for why discomfort in response to the word "queer" is a valid harm, but discomfort in response to the tag "q slur" is "a harmless compromise"? Your posts argue we should be respectful of feelings, and I agree! But then ppl say "tag queer instead of q slur bc it's really upsetting" and suddenly *their* feelings are of no consequence? 1/3

Ok so let's pretend these ppl are lying about their emotional response... for whatever reason. They claim harm, but we'll conveniently ignore it. It's STILL harmful to the LGBT ppl you want to "protect" to tag "q slur" for contexts where it isn't used as a hateful slur. Bc if they ever do want to destigmatize it for their own wellbeing, then it's counterproductive to treat a destigmatized usage as indistinguishable from an bigoted usage. 2/3

The word "stigmatize" comes from the origin "to mark with a brand". And that's really the heart of it. You don't need "q slur" to block mentions of "queer" so going out of your way to use it sends a message to the poster that, regardless of intent, they're being marked with the same brand we would put on a slurring bigot. Use queer, queer mention, or whatever for triggers, but "q slur" is not a harmless compromise. It's re-stigmatizing in the most literal sense. 3/3

tbh anon, i think you make a valid point and it's something for me to consider. i really didn't think much about exactly how to tag under someone's post and that's why you didn't see any options past "q slur" because that's just what i was thinking as i was typing it all out at the time.

i... really do, think, you make a point. because tagging it "queer", "queer discourse", or anything similar still makes it blacklistable by people who are offended by it and do not want to see it, while also respecting OP's identity. so thank you for pointing this out to me and challenging my exact proposal.

the only issue i really take with it is that some might not want to type out the whole word (censoring it like "q*eer" or not), and i'm wondering what the solution is for them. i don't really agree with that course of action because i don't tend to be the sensitive type and i encourage people to speak with their whole chest (especially on the internet), but i still mean what i said about accessibility being comfortable for all and i don't want to be a hypocrite. i don't bring this up to make excuses or challenge you, but i just think it's something to consider and i'd rather leave it in than not.

the other thing is, i also agree with you making a good point about how continuing to restigmatize it defeats the point of trying to destigmatize it. but the thing is anon, this isn't gonna happen overnight and the process certainly isn't as black-and-white as you seem to imply it is. we really can't just get every lgbt person in the world to agree to let hard feelings go and just... start to use it normally, as if there was never any issue at all. it doesn't work like that. we don't all function on the same radiowave and starting a wave across the world/internet like that would take a non-linear, slow amount of time.

in *MY* personal view, disregarding the fact that i did give it a look from all sides, i think that one argument just simply does deserve to have their way more and that's that. i know this will make me sound like i don't truly care about the feelings of self-identified queer people (which isn't true, but i'm gonna be critical here), but at the end of the day i'm really only willing to accept them being so if they acknowledge that it's still an impactful slur and that they need to be mindful as the price for taking advantage of the entire language. freedom of speech isn't freedom of consequence, which i'm sure you've heard many times before. but... yeah, i argued for compromise, but i didn't argue for equal priority and with the weight that the word still has, i say that those affected by it should take priority over those who weren't and don't truly understand from negative experiences what they're doing - especially considering most of them are young and progressively "woke." i guess it doesn't matter how reclaiming the word and changing its connotation happens so long as it does, but it still feels unnatural and unearned if it's done by an uneducated generational gap and not through social justice work, if that makes sense? but, i know that's just me, and really it's just my reflecting through how i think in general.

but, then again, as i said, i suppose it doesn't matter how. maybe this generation is how we make progress, and maybe the next generation will achieve the goal. the point is though, right now there is still a lot of work to be done and my empathy and critical thinking is what motivates me to choose to be more conservative and exclusive than progressive and inclusive about many discourse topics.

Hello. I am in need of advice. I am a straight girl in a diverse group of friends. (By that I mean only straight person. I am the "token") So one of the "friends" posts a lot of anti straight people content. It honestly makes me feel like I am evil even though I make sure to stop if they feel uncomfortable.
