well howdy! for let's make this house a habit, how about...numbers 4 and 9? ;)c
Ohhh howdy and hell yeah!! House a Habit my friend....
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
hmmmmmmmmm had to glance back through the doc for this one! Don't think I have a fav sentence, but I remember being really happy when i started figuring out the awkward/stuttering way the ud cast talk, and i like how i wrote a lot of the more intense conversations near the end!
I think my fav line would be Matt's recounting of Em and him on the firetower! That scene fascinates me, and I love all the horrible ways it can go-- it was a lot of fun to try and figure out Matt's rationalizations for his choices, and how he would explain them aloud!
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
OHOHOHO THERE ACTUALLY WAS.
The really minor change is that originally i debated making the mike section of the fic (since I knew i wanted to do matt then jess then mike pov) the moving in process itself, and show the beginning of the fascinating roommate situation....But I ended up wanting way more conflicted feelings on mike's part, and I reasoned that I ever wanna write the living together part (WHICH I ABSOLUTELY DO...) i can just write a sequel!
NOW THE MORE INTERESTING CHANGE. so ORIGINALLY josh wasn't actually dead! it was gonna be set in the ending where hannah drags josh away in front of mike etc etc, and chris and ash's background plot was gonna be them planning to go find and save josh, where we either would or wouldn't get to see how that ended up. (but they probably would have saved him cause im a sap)
however, i thought it'd be more interesting to explore chris and ash in a verse where Josh was Undoubtedly Dead and that that would fit better with the jess matt mike situation-- where a favorite is dead, and there's an awkward re-fumbling of relationships going on. ALSO i realized i wanted to set the fic over a period of a few months and there was NO non-supernatural way to explain josh staying alive in the mines for that long lmao.
Last but not least, that concept has already been done really really well in one of my favorite fics in the fandom, and i couldn't think of a way to tackle that plot thread in this fic without just echoing their already existing excellent stuff!

Yk it really bothers me when I see people talking about eurylochus and the crew like they were the problem. It just feels like everyone is just missing the point. Yes they stopped listening to ody, yes eurylochus opened the wind bag, but that's what makes them so human.
Picture this, you leave your home to fight in a war. It takes literal years for this war to be over. You've lost friends, you miss your family, you've been through hell. You're starving and your captain tells you they found food on this island.
And then the cyclops happens. More friends die, you barely escape with your life, and your captain gives his name to the creature that killed your friends.
And everything after that is a direct cause of that decision.
So you hesitate to trust him. Yes he's smart, he's capable, he always has a plan. But he would do anything to get home, and you know that. So when he comes back to the ship claiming to have a bag full of wind, and when he refuses to let anyone near, refuses to trust his own crew, you get suspicious.
Its been about a decade by this point, and your captain seems to get more and more desperate to get home. A god is after you. Odysseus is forcing himself to stay away, all to make sure nobody touches that bag.
Its human, it's realistic, it makes sense that someone would open the bag. Because odysseus stopped trusting you, and so you stop trusting him. So you open the bag.
I just find it frustrating that people look at the crew/eurylochus as bad guys because of this, as pawns for ody to get home and thats it. The point of the show is that ody has become a monster, has dealt with and left behind his humanity. We, as listeners, root for him. We give him grace because of his circumstances. Because he's the main character.
But for some reason, people don't give that same grace to the crew. They're human, their circumstances are awful too. They have no idea if they will get home, they aren't sure then can trust their captain anymore. They question things. They make mistakes. They cause the deaths of others. It's human, its that feeling you get when you think that maybe hope is lost after all, it's what this story is about. Mistakes and loss and blame.
People dislike Eurylochus because he opened the bag. But odysseus gave the cyclops his name. And polites trusted the lotus eaters. And Athena told odysseus to be cruel to a fault. Nobody here is innocent, not really. And none of them knew better either. They were working with what they had, with the terrible circumstances at hand. It's no wonder they made mistakes. It's no wonder people died.
Why are we ignoring the humanity of the crew? Why are we arguing that they, or that eurylochus, deserved it? If the story was about them, odysseus would be seen as the bad guy. But he's the main character, so the others are stupid and wrong, right? All that matters is that odysseus gets home, right? Even if it costs the lives of his crew. His crew who stopped trusting him when he stopped trusting them. His crew who he sacrificed to get home.
I think we're missing the point here. Odysseus did become a monster, and although we cheer for him getting home and Penelope and Telemachus forgive him, we have to acknowledge that he did do terrible things. Those men will never see their families again. Why are we erasing that humanity in them?
Humans do bad things for the sake of saving themselves or the ones they love. That includes Odysseus. That includes Eurylochus. That includes the crew. And that includes every other character in this musical.

Just had a deranged conversation in my head while studying social studies and-
Dazai: no, no- I mean. I can most definitely beat someone up in a fight. And I can hold myself up against Chuuya. Reference? Season one's dungeon scene- anyways. Yeah. I can, technically, but I let him. Cause why the hell would I defend myself against his attacks? It's hot, I'm serious Kunikida, I'm-
Kunikida: keep your fucking kinks to yourself.

Eren is a total sneakerhead. It started when he was a kid, begging his mom to wake up early just to fall in line whenever a new drop was announced. And Carla, never one to refuse her precious boy, would patiently wait with him outside the local Foot Locker at the ass crack of dawn just to get a pair. The funny thing is that he never actually wears the damn shoes, always claiming that he’ll be able to sell them in the future for a profit. But let’s be honest here, he has and will never sell his treasured sneakers.
And now as an adult, instead of his mom, he wakes you up for a new drop. He sets his alarm at 6:58 AM on select days to sign up for the online lottery at 7, cursing angrily whenever he doesn’t get picked, cursing happily when he does. For some reason, he forgets to set his alarm this morning for the latest release, a super rare one at that. When he eventually wakes up around 10 AM, he groans, upset at himself for missing it. You turn to face him, a small grin on your face, showing him a picture on your phone. A screenshot of the website, confirming your order for the shoes. His mouth opens in a shocked smile. “You didn’t,” he says in disbelief.
“I did.”
He wraps you in the biggest bear hug, squeezing you tightly. “You’re the best, you know that? I’m so fucking lucky.”
The next time there’s a drop, Eren makes sure to order two pairs, one in his size, the other in yours.

Made it into old yharnam!
Cathedral ward is pretty blocked off for now, I've got just enough leg room to run about and grind the enemies but that's about it. Met Alfred!! He's got a way smoother voice than I remember, but knowing what I do of him gives me the creeps. Helpful enough though - I can summon him at the entrance of the blood starved beasts church.
The funny thing about playing this game with great general knowledge of it is that I recognise many rooms and important locations, but I don't know where on earth those places are, so I'm still stumbling blindly onto them. There's a lot of stuff I know, surface level, like the history of Queen yharnam and the vile bloods and the healing church, but I'm uncovering a lot of smaller stuff that adds to the richness of the world.
The gatling sniper on the tower uses a boom weapon, which means he's a (remnant?) member of the crazy explosion sect of hunters. And I can't put it into words, but I feel like that makes sense with the heavy and thankless duty he has taken on, almost sacrificing himself to protect and guard the quarantined community of old yharnam where no one else would stand for them. Something about the bull headed determination despite what society might say, a deeply emotional morality and a lifetime among monsters and men.
Like I would not make it as a hunter because I read the sign and was like 'welp none of my business let's turn back' but unfortunately that's the only way to progress!
Old yharnam is pleasingly vertical, very easy to get around despite being very disorienting. I don't know how they managed to make an 'old town' area in the gothic cobblestone wet dream of an old town but they did it and they did it WELL.
I did get stuck on getting the messenger bandages in that one corner of the beast church like seven/eight times (why so harrrrrd) but I only died twice to the frenzied mob of parishioners, so, win! I felt so bad each time, though, like I'm not here to kill anyone I just want to loot the place (and interrogate the sniper) I'll be on my way! Their singing was almost nice, shame they kept spotting me (how?!) and starting up those awful screeches. And then they chased me to the ends of the earth!!! Glowing red eyes!! Very scary!!!!
I've reached the blood starved beast so far, but I know that she's a tough one (and FAST, killed me quick) so I'm going to grind the new areas and crank up the levels. Learn my way around them like I know central like the back of my hand. I'm really good at parrying to visceral (thank you zelda breath of the wild) but bullets are SO EXPENSIVE. WHY.

How each rescue bot would try to comfort you during a storm.
Blades: Oh wow it's really pouring out there huh? You know this reminds me of the big acid storms back on Cybertron, the streaks of lightning were so large that the whole sky would light up.
Boulder: Hey, it's gonna be ok. Remember that after a big storm, always comes a rainbow, and then I'll take you out to the park where we can see the dewdrops on the flower petals.
Chase: The rain here is quite different than the acid storms back on Cybertron. It doesn't sting and it has a fresh scent, it's also feels refreshingly vibrant and this lightning is also very ephemeral.
Heatwave: This is what is making you afraid and cowering by me? It's only a little bit of rain, there's nothing to be scared of, the lightning isn't even that loud either.

@anon-lemon with this ask and the resulting one shot: I also think freshwater merDrew is pretty hehe, the fish I based him off of is a peacock bass (maybe specifically royal peacock bass? With the more blue fin idk) but more dramatic. Like so:

OHHH ryo expyism is my field of study. ok. yes. what i believe is that a vital part of the history of ryo expies is understanding that, while there are many direct descendants, a pretty important branch is being one thru kaworu nagisa, who is a direct expy of ryo but arguably inspired as many expies of himself as ryo did.
i then suspect killua to be an offshoot of kaworu, so a 2nd gen expy. they follow the dark haired protag/light haired (gay) bestie formula. it is maybe also important to mention though that the likelihood of togashi having read devilman is supremely high since the manga was incredibly big in japan, and because devilman's influences on shounen in general but esp on yu yu hakusho and the CAA cannot be overstated.
YEAHHH YES OK THIS IS EXACTLY THE RESPONSE I WAS LOOKING FOR!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
