if yord had lived he'd be leading the hunt for qimir and osha and we would've gotten the most delicious tension between him and qimir. qimir would start out frustrated that yord got away, intent on finishing what he started. and yord, once hunted, now hunter, once an exemplary jedi, and now solely focused on revenge disguised as righteous justice (which it is also a bit of that). and qimir starts to enjoy the game, the chase. and in this timeline, sol still dies, osha still goes with qimir, but yord was unconscious, recovering in a bacta tank, so all he knows when he wakes up is that qimir is out there and took osha, his friend, away. so then you also have the tension of that confrontation, the realization that osha has willingly turned, and that maybe yord can't blame her for that, because what has he been doing these past many months, years, maybe, but give in to the selfish desire to finish what he started too?

Healing Light
Lemme just... just fix this here. Acolyte spoilers below the cut.
Yeah, so it took me all of ten minutes to go, "nah, they didn't really die" and start writing it. It's messy but have a lil balm for ep. 5.
----------
  Breathe.
   Just breathe.
Easier said than done. Breathing shouldn’t have been so difficult, but… but her lungs wouldn’t obey her. Nothing obeyed her orders, not her lungs or her closed eyes or…
She felt only one thing. Her heart thudding dully in her chest. Slowing and slowing…
She heard voices over her. Loud and angry, pounding upon her ears with the icy darkness pressing upon her aching chest.
   Then, silence.
Silence and ice and nothingness and…
   “Breathe.”
Her lungs spasmed, then dusty air touched her tongue and throat. She wanted to cough, but her weak lungs only took in more of the filthy, cold air.
Air slid from her lungs, then back in. Each slow breath came easier, charged by the silent command she felt rather than heard.
   “Breathe.”
Her eyes didn’t obey her, but she realized they were open and the darkness was above her. Not in her. The ice receded with each slow breath.
   “Breathe.”
Finally, Jecki blinked. Her vision cleared somewhat, so the dark shadows became branches and trees and leaves. And a face.
   “Breathe.”
Jecki blinked again, and she could see the dust and mud and tears streaking the face over hers. She seemed to have control of her lungs for the first time, as her exhale was a sigh and her eyes fell so they were only halfway open.
   “Yord.”
Yord offered an exhausted smile, then slid to the side. Jecki heard him thump to the ground beside her.
Turning her head, Jecki saw Yord’s ignited lightsaber. That explained why she’d been able to see again.
For several moments, padawan and knight laid silently side-by-side, just breathing.
Yord was the first to move again, sitting slowly up. He looked back down at Jecki.
“Still here, padawan?” Yord asked slowly, his voice rasping.
Jecki blinked slowly. “You’re supposed… to be on… the ship.”
   “Osha came back.”
Jecki snorted, a little impressed with Osha.
“He was going to kill you.”
Jecki hummed. “I kind of... thought he did.”
   “Yeah. Same here.”
The two of them didn’t move for a moment longer. Then something clicked in Jecki’s mind, and she sat up enough to look down.
Three holes were burned into her padawan robes, as well as on her chest. But when she touched the wounds, she found rough scars. She looked at Yord.
   “What happened?” Jecki asked.
Yord shrugged, apparently too tired to be his usual knowing self. “I don’t know. We were fighting, I think, then… then it was dark and cold…”
Jecki nodded slowly. “It was the same for me.”
There was another long silence, then both of them looked sharply at the other and yelled in unison.
   “Master Sol!”
Jecki scrambled to stand up, but her legs gave out and she fell. She cried out when the impact sent a blaze of pain across her chest, and quickly rolled over to relieve the pressure on her chest.
“Slowly,” Yord said from where he still sat. “I think you just came back from the dead.”
“People don’t come back from the dead,” Jecki said.
   Yord shrugged. “You just did.”
Jecki looked skeptically at Yord. But with the location of her wounds… how did she survive?
“What happened to you?” Jecki asked after a moment.
Yord’s gaze became distant. “I’m not sure.”
   “You? Not sure?”
“Are you wanting to relive that fight?” Yord asked.
“Okay, okay…” Jecki sighed and laid back. Then she took a determined breath and made herself sit up. “We’ve got to go. I don’t know what happened to Master Sol or Osha or…”
“The guy from the apothocary,” Yord muttered. “How? What was he?”
“He had a lightsaber.” Jecki tested her arms’ strength, finding them still too shaky. “A Jedi?”
“He didn’t fight like a Jedi… or anything I’ve ever encountered,” Yord said.
The two were silent again. The forest was dark and foggy, and they seemed to be the only things living in the whole forest.
Yord’s lightsaber deactivated, throwing them into darkness. Jecki inhaled sharply before she could stop herself.
“Those moth things,” Yord’s voice came out of the darkness. “If they come back…”
Jecki made herself breathe out slowly. Everything was so dark that she didn’t realize right away that her eyes were closed. She tried to open them, but didn’t have the strength for even that.
Everything was so dark… so cold… and the two of them were laying there defenseless. The forest was dark and dangerous, and they couldn’t move.
Jecki let out another slow breath, trying to center her thoughts. She reached for calm, remembering the lessons from Sol. Trust in the Force.
An unexpected peace came to Jecki. She forgot about her missing master and the stranger with the blood-red blade. It was just her and Yord, and the little pool of light and calm.
   “Jecki.”
Jecki slid from the calm with a slight groan of protest. She could feel things again, and there was nothing but more pain than she could bear.
   “Jecki, wake up.”
Jecki opened her eyes to find the forest bathed in light. She was confused briefly, then realized it was morning. The air was cool and clean, and the trees didn’t seem so sinister anymore.
And Yord was still alive beside her. She could live with that.
--------------
I might keep going, and get a cleaned up version that goes on a bit further and includes Osha to post on A03, but for now, this'll do.

i think it’s funny people are getting mad people died in acolyte like it wasn’t about them? lol it’s about osha and mae and their masters lol we don’t need 50 side characters pointlessly getting random ass narratives (like in mandalorian lol) they didn’t die for “shock value” they weren’t central to the story. it’s not that deep. it’s literally not about them they’re side characters. like *gestures at andor* plenty of people died in that and it was also sad but jfc they aren’t the focus

If Mae and Osha had still been separated but no Sith-
Mae: *visiting the temple for the first time* What do you guys do for fun around here?
Osha: Sometimes we throw shit at Yord.
Mae: Who’s Yord?
Jecki: Yord! *throws*
Yord: *looks up and instantly gets a meilooran to the face*
My headcanon is that trying to catch each other out with mind tricks is a game young jedi play. They're probably not really supposed to, because it could easily turn into bullying, but it's a game as old as jedi anyway. Just silly little things, like maybe they're eating dinner and someone drops a "you want to throw a meilooran at Yord" and they'll be halfway to doing it before noticing they're being had

Tag Changes are Coming to The High Republic
Hello! In the very near future, the Star Wars wrangling team is going to be doing what people have been asking for: we’re making The High Republic novels into series instead of individual book fandoms.
These fandoms are going to be:
Star Wars: The High Republic: Phase I - Various Authors
Star Wars: The High Republic: Phase II - Various Authors
Star Wars: The High Republic: Phase III - Various Authors
Read on for more details about this decision and all the related tag changes we’ll be making to help ease this transition.
Why is this change being made?
People have been using Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi - Charles Soule as a makeshift series tag, and we want how we wrangle these fandoms to reflect actual tagging practices. Also, the High Republic books are much more intertwined than wranglers initially foresaw.
Why did you split the fandom into phases? I wanted a single THR tag. :(
The problem with making a single tag for all the books is that the High Republic era is 400 years long and if we make one tag, then every book that takes place from 500 BBY to 100 BBY would be part of it, even if they have no relation to each other. These series tags are only going to contain the novels announced as part of this initial multimedia project, ending with the books published in Spring 2025. There might not be any THR books after that, but we live in hope. (Novel about Yord and Osha as padawans, anyone?)
If it makes you feel better, you can imagine that the separation between Phase I and III is Marchion Ro's fault. The Occlusion Zone is so powerful it extends to affecting AO3.
What about the comics and Tales of Light and Life?
Due to the fact that AO3 tag wranglers generally no longer make new AO3 fandoms that mix media types, the comics will remain their own fandoms, and any books that span more than one phase (such as Tales of Light and Life, which contains stories set in Phase I and Phase II) will remain their own fandoms, and won’t be renamed. These fandoms won’t be connected to the phase tags in any way. This also extends to Young Jedi Adventures and The Acolyte as well as its related tie-in media.
What will happen if I just tag "Star Wars: The High Republic" without specifying a phase in the fandom field?
Your story will only appear under "Star Wars - All Media Types", which is what currently happens. We’re able to move the majority of tags currently synonymous with the Star Wars - All Media Types to the era that best represents the majority of the works tagged with them, but Star Wars: The High Republic remains synonymous with Star Wars - All Media Types, as its usage is too mixed between phases.
In instances where a generic High Republic fandom tag that doesn't specify a particular phase of this era is used, it’s likely that wranglers will make that tag a synonym of the fandom tag that best represents the content of the majority of the fanworks tagged with it. Consequently, there may be at least a few works showing up in a phase they seemingly don't belong in, because they've made use of a generic High Republic fandom tag.
I still want tags that tell my readers what book the fic is connected to! What do I do?
You can still keep the fandom tag currently on your works if you want! There’s absolutely no need to edit your works. However, if you want to tag the books in freeforms/additional tags instead, we’ve got you covered with these canonical tags you can put in the "Additional Tags" field:
Books now part of Star Wars: The High Republic: Phase I - Various Authors
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Starlight Stories - Various Authors
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi - Charles Soule
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark - Claudia Gray
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage - Justina Ireland
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: The Rising Storm - Cavan Scott
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower - Daniel José Older
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Out of the Shadows - Justina Ireland
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Tempest Runner - Cavan Scott
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Mission to Disaster - Justina Ireland
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: The Fallen Star - Claudia Gray
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Midnight Horizon - Daniel José Older
Books now part of Star Wars: The High Republic: Phase II - Various Authors
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Quest for the Hidden City - George Mann
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Convergence - Zoraida Córdova
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Path of Deceit - Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Tales of Enlightenment - George Mann
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: The Battle of Jedha - George Mann
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Quest for Planet X - Tessa Gratton
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Cataclysm - Lydia Kang
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Path of Vengeance - Cavan Scott
Books now part of Star Wars: The High Republic: Phase III - Various Authors
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles from the Occlusion Zone - Lydia Kang
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Escape From Valo - Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness - George Mann
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Defy the Storm - Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland
Book: Star Wars: The High Republic: Temptation of the Force - Tessa Gratton
Additional canonical tags will be added as more books are published.
(From time to time, ao3org posts announcements of recent or upcoming wrangling changes on behalf of the Tag Wrangling Committee.)

The bad kids haven't really looked too closely at the Rat Grinders (meta wise I know it's a commentary on different play styles and how shitty xp farming is and how op players/parties can become by doing the bare minimum if they put in the time while everyone else plays the damn game) but I find the split perspective problems absolutely fascinating. I can't wait for the Bad Kids to look at the Rat Grinders with envy and anger that the Rat Grinders got to live a normal highschool life without all this insane danger and experience being a teenager without it being the end of the world for them. Right now they just hate the Rat Grinders energy and are matching it back (which is a very high school thing to do. To have beef with a whole other group of kids and not even know why but you'll die on this hill because they started shit first)
Because to the Rat Grinders, from a purely outside perspective, the Bad Kids are fucking monarchs of the school, right? They skipped classes, ran around town, fought people, got arrested, hung out with a big devil? Every new staff member came at their recommendation? One of them has both her dads working at the school?? The destroyed school property, got teachers killed, straight murdered the coach? These fucking kids run around and are apparently scott-free? because the principal liked their chaos enough to let it go and help them avoid the police? To the Rat Grinders, the Bad Kids are untouchable. They're exempt from the law. They're liars, cheats and need to be humbled. It's unfair. From everyone elses perspective, it really does look like the Bad Kids have been given crazy favourtism.
Meanwhile, all of the Bad Kids have died at least once. They've been irreparably changed and are in a constant state of fight or flight. They assume everything is dangerous and anyone might be an enemy because for two goddamn years that was the exact case! They couldn't trust any adult first year! Literally anyone could have been infected with Kalina second year! who knows what happened with the Night Yord but I fucking bet they had issues with Yorbies pretending to be helpful just to kill them! Everyone, for two years, has been out to get them! They can't even sleep! And now they have to grind so hard or they fail. Adaine has a seemingly full time job after school basically every day because she literally can't afford to live? Fabian has taken on the most physically strenuous classes and sport one dude could and has dreams of also being a social legend because he's fucking lonely in that big house and he just wants to fill it. If anyone in the party fails or dies Riz is shit out of luck and wont ever get into a university? He so desperately wants his friends with him so he's working over time and ignoring his limits to make up for his party members not caring about the future. Fig is going through the strangest arc I've ever seen in my life? she's hard avoidant and taking three classes, so a 250% work load, because she's desperate to fill her time so she can't think about all the other work she has to do that if she ignores too long could crush her under the debt of her band from her label, or how alone she feels without her girlfriend around. Gorgug is so desperate to prove himself that he's doing four years of school work in one, trying to play catch up and also prove himself at the same time, he's taking it all so seriously but also is so fucking tired. And Kristen. Mother fucking Kristen "hey girlie" applebees. Expected to dedicate her life to a god with no direction, with the weight of failure being her gods death, while also being in school and also at your friends insistence needing to run for student body president and getting your priorities so mixed up and being completely left behind by her peers who didn't have to rework their entire world view and understanding of life in the span of a few months every few months.
The Bad Kids are in a terrible place. They're suffering. I want them to just say it out loud, to stop pretending they have it handled and are fine. I want Riz and Adaine to yell at the party to get their shit together. I want Fabian to tell someone how alone and abandoned her feels. I want Kristen to scream at Cassandra that she agrees, that it's not fair, she's just a kid, how could she be enough all on her own with no help? It sucks a god can only rely on a child, for both the god and child! They're both suffering from this arrangement! Neither is happy! I want Gorgug to beat the shit out of Porter with his inventions and rage at the same time, to make the best shit and use it in the most stunning way anyone has ever seen. I want Fig to finally get some freaking help, to have her teachers and parents reach out in a meaningful way and stop telling her to figure it out alone because clearly the pressure is too much for her to handle and she's drowning. I want someone, anyone, to look at the Bad Kids and tell them to stop. To help them. But I know it wont be that easy. I know it'll be the Rat Grinders yelling at how unfair it is the Bad kids get everything while they're on the sidelines that'll get under the Bad Kids skin and they'll yell about how awesome they are and that they didn't ask for any of this shit to happen to them and to fuck off. I know it's gonna get so much worse before it gets better. I know they'll figure it out and that it'll be a painful road there.

I do appreciate how quickly they resolve the mystery with Osha and Indara - like, it was set up really well, with Osha deflecting on what she does with her time off, and all through Yord's questioning I was ready for it to go bad, her to try pulling on his sympathies in a gambit to take advantage of Jedi mercy -
And then she didn't.
And she kept being so... normal, and kind, and mostly just upset and confused - and then the sister is mentioned, and I knew they were playing the twin gambit.
Usually, this would turn into a big "framed for murder" plot where the hapless Osha must flee from the inexorable Jedi who refuse to listen to her, only looking at the witness evidence and their own biases, and that would have been... fine.
Instead. Instead.
The first Jedi Master she meets believes her, instantly, without question. No begging, no pleading, no crying, no hard evidence. And he's right.
And within a few hours, they have proof, proof the Jedi Council accepts immediately - and just like that, it's not a show about how the mean Jedi won't listen to the poor victim. It's a show about two sisters, twins, who both believed the other dead, who both fell under the guardianship of two opposite sides - who both led different lives that now put them into conflict.
How will Osha's survival change Mae's revenge? How will Mae's survival shake Osha's faith?
Those questions are much more interesting than "when will those awful Jedi shut up and listen", and I am so looking forward to it!

In my humble opinion, it's not far-fetched that Osha joined Qimir after he killed all those people, including Jecki and Yord. I loved Jecki and Yord. But looking at things from Osha's perspective, their deaths didn't matter as much the second she learned about the truth. The Jedi were responsible for her mothers' deaths, the death of her coven, the separation between her and her sister. They. ruined. Osha's. life. As Mae pointed out, she lives a life without purpose because of the Jedi. No matter how "noble" the Jedi's actions were, the consequences were devastating. Jecki and Yord were a part of this institution that destroyed her life. They weren't involved in the tragedy, but they are Jedi.
Osha only knew Jecki for what? A few days? A few weeks? She was a great Jedi (I reiterate, I loved her), but at the end of the day, Osha barely knew Jecki. You could argue that she knew Yord longer, but she hadn't seen Yord for like 6 years. When they met again, their relationship was very different (mainly because of Yord). Osha doesn't give a fuck at this point.
As for Sol, it doesn't matter that Sol had the intention to confess his mistakes to the High Council. He chose to stay silent. And he did so for 16 years. And he continued to lie to Osha as everything was unraveling. It wasn't until Qimir questioned his integrity that Sol felt the need to come clean.
