Writing Notes: Yoga Positions

BOAT

Sitting on floor with knees bent, extend legs out at a 45-degree angle to the floor so that body forms a “V” shape.

Arms should be parallel to the ground.

BRIDGE

Lying on back with knees bent and feet flat on floor, raise pelvis off floor.

Arch back, keeping shoulders pressed to the ground.

CAMEL

While kneeling, arch back and bend head back toward feet.

Hold heels with hands and exhale while in movement.

CAT-COW

On hands and knees, arch back and inhale, looking at ceiling.

On exhale, round back and drop head down.

CHILD

Kneeling with arms to the side, roll torso to floor.

Rest forehead on the ground.

COBRA

Stretched out on floor with stomach down, align elbows beneath shoulders and raise torso up.

Arms should straighten with hands flat on floor.

CORPSE

Lie on back with feet and arms outstretched.

Breathe deeply.

DOWNWARD DOG

From hands and knees, form an inverted “V” by straightening legs and pressing hands and heels to floor.

Exhale while in movement.

LOCUST

Lying on stomach with hands at sides, squeeze buttocks and lift legs up off the ground.

Simultaneously lift head, chest, and arms.

MOUNTAIN

Standing with feet together, inhale while raising arms straight above the head and clasp hands together.

Exhale while lowering arms.

SPINAL TWIST

Sitting with right foot crossed over left leg, grasp right leg with left arm and twist to the right.

Repeat on other side.

TREE

While standing, place one foot on the inside of the opposite thigh.

Place hands in prayer position in front of chest, and then extend toward ceiling.

TRIANGLE

Standing with legs slightly wider than hip width, turn one foot out.

Reach for that foot, extending opposite arm toward ceiling.

WARRIOR I

Raise arms over head with palms together.

Lunge forward with one foot, keeping thigh parallel to the ground.

WARRIOR II

From Warrior I, rotate back foot so that it is perpendicular with front heel and extend arms straight out to sides.

Look out over front hand.

Rose

I once gave you a red rose

A whiff, you took in the fragrance

A dreamlike expression on your face

You looked at me, but your mind raced

You told me you remembered

Of times past, love in many forms

That graced your life, changing the pace

Of your beating heart, speeding up

With each breath as you sucked in energy

A pulsating mass of colour, within you

That gave colour to us, together now

So that even if I say the word "Rose"

Your face turns red as you smile

You know I know what you're thinking now

“try to keep your balance but if you need support that’s okay. You’re still balancing even if you’re being supported. What’s important is that you’re still breathing.”

And that stuck with me.

Self-love affirmation

I’m not alone, even when I believe I’m alone, I’m not, wherever I go, there’s always the Universe by my side, even if this body dies, I will continue to exist on this earth 'cause I'm energy, so I’m no longer afraid of dying, ‘cause that'll never happen, I’ll still be here even if I wanted to disappear, for that I’m thankful, I’m blessed now by this knowledge, I trust myself and whatever my hands do, whatever I believe, whatever I see, everything that is me right now, and what will be tomorrow, is eternal, can’t be gone that easily, and I can feel that infinite amount of knowledge that comes from past-lives, I can feel it inside me, so, again, I’m thankful, I’m not afraid anymore, I’m thankful anyway that I have a body which I can use to make a better place, I’m so grateful for all that I have, for the countless blessings you seem to be giving me, thanks for watching over me, it feels like I don’t have anything more to say, just thank you for making me wake up with these thoughts after a short meditation, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Childish Wonder

Do you remember being a child?

Not the pain, forget the misery for now,

I mean the ability to feel wonder,

To become curious about everything,

Longing for answers to pressing questions,

Trying to search within and without,

To find yourself falling for this mystery,

Of life, as you remember the love and care,

Or the longing to be loved and cared for,

Of the protection, or the longing for safety,

Being carefree or moments that molded you,

A mixture of pain and pleasure in a bundle,

That could dare to wonder, that secret,

Once lost, now here within you, once again.
