Hey just wanna say i rlly loved ur fic of bruce helping ollie with his pain, it was rlly sweet. I love them bonding over being heroes without powers. I know it was a gen fic but do you have any thoughts on batarrow, or do you prefer them as friends? Also I've seen a big headcanon that they knew each other when they were younger (both rich kids), do you have any thoughts on that?

Thank you! That was such a fun fic to write. I noticed that there wasn't a ton of works about Bruce and Ollie's relationship outside of playboy antics or League formality. But they really have so much in common, you know? They're both human vigilantes keeping company with gods and trying to do what's best for their cities.

They're definitely the kind of friends who would sleep together, in my mind. Or at least have charged, flirty energy between them. I like when they have a complex, layered friendship and identity shenanigans between them too, it's compelling.

And yeah, having a shared history before they both went off on separate journeys to train is really fun to play with in fics, especially when they reunite as new people, new vigilantes, etc in the League. Because they knew each other back then, intimately maybe, but now? They're new people with strange scars and yet they're not so dissimilar. I feel like only Ollie and Bruce could truly grasp how much or how little training altered them in the grand scheme of things. Were they always this stubborn and devoted? Are they just better at hiding their faults now as adults?

Till's piece from the event is a very honest depiction, but I want to examine it in more detail since it looks so interesting.

For one, I find the headpiece confusing, I was hesitant on this point in the last post I made covering this I assumed the headpiece Till is wearing (separate from the headphones) was this device.

There isn't even a name for that device, but it's been theorized that it serves a similar function have the collars pet humans have, but affects the pet humans in some way.

I believe it's a behavioral management device since there is an emphasis on the brain when it's shown. And just based on the design itself. I think the purpose of it is similar to a shock collar.

Till in this environment looks familiar, he has that focused expression that he always has when he's writing music, like he's in a daze. Since this is a practice in a controlled environment I think he might actually be handling an instrument this time around (hence the headphones). Till has a natural passion for music, the environment of Anakt Garden also appears more calm than what he goes through with Urak so he looks very much in his element.

But despite how calm, and focused he looks outwardly, his collar shows orange.

Till is giving with his expressions even around the aliens, so if he was feeling bad (I would suspect as much seeing the fresh experiment patches..) I believe it would look more obvious, but the difference threw me off a bit. I could be reaching (definitely) But given how unruly his behavior can be, and how much effort the aliens are putting into finding ways to subdue him I think they used that device to mellow him out so that they could properly monitor him.

The collar being orange gives me the impression that he's not as calm as he looks but the headpiece is keeping him in a 'sedated' state(?)

Red - Condition in the negatives, energy depleted, feeling bad. overall horrible state.

Orange, yellow - to a lesser extent, more like if you're feeling skittish, nervous, (think of this mode as feeling under the weather)

Green - Good, calm, happy, normal and a healthy mode.

This behavior could also show desensitization, as he had likely been conditioned to not be phased nor show weakness in front of the aliens even if he feels bad, a way of tolerating. But this is just me trying to make sense of whatever that head gear was... he could've also been sedated beforehand (banging my head against the concrete)

Also interesting to me that we weren't shown Till doing other things, like dancing, or singing. I think it's a testament to Anakt's (And Urak's) priorities as they have Till build on his music skills, his strongest skill. It's probably because that's all he has to offer is his music (His grades in every other subject are a mess.). So building that to its greatest potential before anything is important. But it's a reminder of the situation, he's not so intense about his craft because of his inclination to it. He doesn't make music simply because he likes it, he does it because it's what he has to do to survive. Despite doing what he is naturally driven to do, he looks like he has had his life drained out of him.

Urak (the bastard) knows that for sure. Appearances, and 'decent' skills can get you far but overwhelming passion and skill can put you farther above all the rest, it's exactly why Luka is the best in his league, and why Urak pushes Till to his limits to surpass that even with such destructive means.

When I go to answer a serious ask, I usually type out my initial ideas, save it to drafts, and craft a response after I've had time to think. But recently, some of the asks have just disappeared. Unfortunately, this was one of those instances. (I'm recalling to the best of my ability).

Anon said they felt like the only one noticing how Maneskin use people as props in their photos, usually People of Color.

This topic touches on some of the most historically and currently relevant subsects of society. Race & ethnicity. Social development & communication, (now in the age of social media). Entertainment & representation. Plus, others I'm not thinking of. I want to acknowledge how deserving of an in depth discussion this topic is, while also acknowledging that I'm not informed enough to broach it. So this is gonna be pretty surface, anon, and I'm sorry for that.

What does it even mean to use somebody as a prop?

Props are used to add detail and context which make the subject or background more interesting. As inanimate objects, they only exist to enhance the scene. Therefore, to treat someone like a prop is to prioritize the way they can improve your image over that person's autonomy. Sure, both the prop and subject can both have individuality, as long as one serves to make the other look interesting.

So who's culpable? The subject, the photographer/videographer, perhaps a director of sorts? Personally, I think the blame is shared and situationally dependent.

Below are the most obvious examples of Maneskin using a person as a prop, posted to their insta pages. The trend anon pointed out is evident. Admittedly, I don't have a good sample size here, though. A ton of Maneskin's content is only available on their stories. Especially content with non-band members (which is what anon is referencing), since Maneskin's publicist prefers to post just the band.

I wonder how many of the people in these photos gave informed consent. (Not necessarily to a band member, just someone). As in "This photo will be posted without your name and seen by millions, but you won't receive royalties." Because some of these images Maneskin (the brand) can profit from via merchandise and copyrights. Conversely, most of the folks in the photos will experience poverty in their lifetime. Some of Maneskin's outfits are worth more than the other person makes in a year and they're treating them like a plant. There's also the safety concern. If any of these people have someone in the whole world that wishes them harm, that person can now find their job/neighborhood.

I know these photos aren't all bad. Victoria probably got consent to post pic #5, just a harmless prank. The woman in pic #3 was likely thrilled to be sitting next to such a handsome young man and thinks all social media is Facebook (which she hates). But why take pictures with the Black men in photos #2 & #4? What about the Latinas in #1 & #12? They're are using POCs as visually compelling markers of cultural and ethnic differences to say something meaningful about themselves. Look how far I've come! Look how successful my music is! You envy me, right?

too short i think, three episodes to cap this off was too ambitious? but at the same time, man what else was there to be said? idk...

just a huge sprawling cast - the npcs were so many, i honestly had a hard time keeping up which i think made it difficult to attach myself to any one dynamic

and by the nature of aeor and its lore, it did end up fairly predictable... and the ending we knew was coming but it is just as it was told - the gods smote aeor, and the divine gate was born from guilt ridden prime deities that could no longer stomach hurting the creations that they love

i think... i came into downfall thinking i would have a stronger opinion of the gods and i came out of it more or less the same... theres nothing really revelatory to me

predathos and the oblivion it poses? still bad. ludinus and his campaign to end the gods? still sus. the gods trying to stop ludinus and the destruction of aeor? still logical.

im not inclined to worship the gods more for resembling mortals and neither am i inclined to hate them more for resembling mortals.

i havent been moved. and that i feel is the greatest personal complaint that i have. i just feel rather lukewarm about it all. it was.... alright

idk, we Could look at the plot with La’an and alt!Kirk as the blatantly stated exploration of whom La’an would be without being part of a legacy that includes mass murder and genocide, horror and pain. We could examine her character to try and see where the trauma from the Noonien-Singh legacy meets and ends with the trauma of her past with the gorn, because they both exist her history but it’s not immediately clear where the line is. La’an without a legacy shadowing her was still La’an, but she was more open and forward and relished the chance to be somebody who doesn’t have to explain herself just because of her name, because of what somebody else did in her past, indicating that it’s not necessarily the death of loved ones that is closing her off to other people but rather more related to her name. 

We could take it as the exploration of Kirk as a character and how he relates to his brother and father in the prime universe in context with how he gave his life to make a universe where Sam lives still (among other things), showing that for all he has golden child syndrome in prime!universe that he truly and genuinely Loves his brother enough to die for him, just as La’an’s brother loved her enough to die for her. 

The plot with La’an and Kirk in the past, and the fact that La’an bonded with him so quickly and outright admitted to him that the reason for this was that he did not live in a timeline where he even knew her name, let alone judged her for it, says Oodles about her as a person and her relationship to her lineage in a very deft way that could not have been done with any of the characters we see every week. We Know Kirk’s a flirt, and at the time he was a flirt who was expecting to cease to exist in a few mere hours time, it’s really not surprising he took a chance with the beautiful and frustrating woman he’s found himself with. 

That La’an participated in that kiss, which wasn’t even a big old make out session, it was a reasonably chaste kiss for an on the lips thing, actually tells us things about her and her willingness to engage without the chains of a legacy. That she then went on to call him her friend Afterwards while in distress at losing him tells us that, yes, she thought of him as a friend from this and that losing him and what he gave her (freedom) has hurt her deeply. 

That she went home, checked the timeline was fixed, and that seeing him made her cry, the intermingling of her grief at losing Jim her friend and all that he offered her in his ignorance. The Prime!Jim Kirk cannot give her what this alternate version did, that he is gone, dead, doesn’t exist, and that she is grieving. And yet she now has to know him still, and speak to him, and talk to his identical mirror, as if she never knew what he did for her in a world that doesn’t exist and never will again. 

or we could just write it off as having no storytelling merit i guess.
