Long ask anon with an even longer ask (I truly don’t know how to make long story short, but I can do the reverse), sorry. I am dividing this in two parts in case you decide to post this, so it would not be such an essay.

Part 1. Intro

Something has been eating up at me for a while but I only recently gathered the courage to do anything more than lurking. I actually am quite new to this, mostly because I was not allowing myself to even get into this in the first place. I am a very chill person when it comes to celebrities, I truly couldn’t care less about their lives, don’t even follow them on SM (L and N included) (not that I use SM all that much to begin with), I don’t know why but it always seems strange for me to be invested in strangers’ lives. I am not big of a fan girl either, especially media wise, I am much more interested in books and have no patience for tv shows most of the time. All of this to say, this is unusual behavior for me, watching all of the interviews with repetitive questions (those poor actors having to repeat themselves over and over again), paying attention to actors (beyond just knowing their names).

Polin is one of the rare ships that captured my interest, so I was very excited to learn about s3 being them, and when the wait for even the slightest info seem to be dragging on endlessly those interviews served as a great entertainment. Until they were not, until I started noticing things I wished not to. What started as “oh, they are so cute, and charming, and their friendship is so endearing!” very quickly turned into “babes, WHAT THE F*CK DID I JUST SAW/HEARD?” At one point I was honestly thinking “did I miss something? Are they together? What is going on?” So I checked, out of curiosity nothing more, but found nothing OFFICIAL suggesting that (as in N nor L never claimed anything). So I moved on, watched the show, other interviews (my brows still rising at some points), and then post Part 2 premiere I saw the picture on IG.

Everyone on internet seemed to be screaming about Ls’ GF, and being absolutely vile to him, which I found so disgusting I immediately checked out of the situation and turned my attention back on fiction again. It would be insincere of me not to admit to a certain disappoint on such a development, but that was as far as it would go. Though I can also truthfully say that that girl was not giving me the best impression based on the picture, something just seemed off. I only saw one at that point, where it appeared as if they were holding hands, why did it seem off? Because L looked displeased, almost angry, his eyes averted from cameras, while she was boldly looking right on them smiling as if she was walking her red carpet. As I said that was that, just continued watching the show, reading Polin fanfiction, hung out on a Polin reddit account and some Polin Tumblr blogs. And then I stumbled upon your blog (it was already past papgate 2.0), and now I’m on this bloody ship, and can not seem to force myself overboard, because those two are so soulmate coded (and yes, I realize how cheesy that sounds).

What has been bugging me, is that most, if not all, in this fandom seem to be of the opinion that L is the primary reason why N/L are yet to develop into lovers phase of this friends to lovers arc. From outright blaming him to passive aggressively calling him a dummy for not going after N. And I comprehend that most of it comes from the presence of a certain adjacent. But putting aside the OBVIOUS, LOGICAL point that we, non of us, are privy to their real lives, and bts truth, I still don’t see where that point of view comes from. I know that everyone says L is most like his character, so perhaps part of it is projection of that, but for me it always seems that L is actually a Penelope of this situation. To me, he himself gives it away.

I have never thought L was the hang up in this situation. I think N has been burned in love, is pretty closed off with this stuff, and a TOTAL workaholic. L DEFINITELY fell first (no one can convince me otherwise). L also seems to kind of be a hopeless romantic and public lover boy, which I don't think N is use to. But I feel like that is why they kind of balance each other out ❤️️

Is Giving Feedback to ABC Worth It?

After #AllIwantforchristmasislou campaign, some BT fans suggested the others to keep giving feedback to ABC, asking for Buck and Tommy to get back together. Initially I hesitated. I've told ABC all my thoughts about Tevan break up in my previous emails. I have nothing else to say.

When @totallyjustabunchofhocuspocus posted a similar suggestion, I had this conversation with her on the comment section:

ME: "Hey, may I know which feedback campaign has been successful? I only know Castiel (they brought him back, clearly NOT by their own will). Mickey Milkovich in Shameless was brought back because Cameron Monaghan refused to extend his own contract without Noel Fisher. Similar with April Kepner in Grey's Anatomy (Jesse Williams was only willing to extend his contract for one more season to bring Japril together again). Other than Castiel in Supernatural, I don't know any other fans campaign which successfully brought a character or a ship back." HER: "That I have personally participated in? I was in the Save Carson Beckett trenches (not an organizer or anything, but by god did I write letters!) which sucessfully brought back a character from the dead on Stargate: Atlantis. I also hundred percent mailed peanuts to a network in an effort to convince them to uncancel a show called Jericho, which successfully got us another seven episodes (again, not an organizer or anything, just a participant). The other successful fan campaign I've seen and participated in was an intense letter writing campaign (and I mean actual, handwritten letters, this was mostly in the days before the widespread internet) to save The Magnificent 7 (which was a show on CBS that aired in the late 90's), which successfully got a second season of 13 episodes ordered. "So it DOES happen. Fan engagement and feedback does have an effect. If NOTHING else, they might think it worth it to bring Tommy back to give us actual closure and Tommy a happier ending."

After that, ep. 8x09 "Sob Stories" went live and the rating is good (the highest of the season so far!). If the ratings aren't affected by Tommy's leaving, does our feedback matter?

Then, someone pointed out to me this part of Tim Minear's interview with Decider:

DECIDER: Did it cross your mind when you were writing that twist that Buck also lived in Abby’s (Connie Britton) apartment when she left in Season 1?  TM: Yes! It did, and I had even made reference to it later, but that ended up falling out. I think it just got a little confusing for the network. But there was a reference to that fact. For Buck, it’s different, because he’s not Eddie’s lover, for one thing. He was pining for Abby when she left. But he didn’t think he was living in her place. He thought he was waiting for her to come back.

It seems like initially Tim wanted to put a Buddie bait by mentioning the pararel of Buck lives in Eddie's place with Buck lived in Abby's place. However, ABC stopped him. That's interesting. I thought ABC didn't mind with baiting, because they allowed Tim did it with Bucktommy: hyping Bucktommy up then breaking them apart.

What made people in ABC changed their mind? Is it because our feedback? I did complain about Buddie baiting in my previous feedback, and I know I'm not the only one. Some people also mentioned about the online harassment directed towards actors who played Buck or Eddie's Love Interests in their feedback. Is it what made ABC cautious about Buddie baiting now? Possibly. Although, the "I didn’t mean to OUT YOU in front of Cap and everyone else" line was still uttered by Buck on screen 😂.

My point is, let's keep giving feedback to ABC. The result is not guaranteed, but we don't have to put too much effort either. Just put a simple reason, such as:

"As an older gay who has lived in DADT era, I feel represented by Tommy, and I wish to see him happy with Buck on screen," or

"Buck has gone through 5 romantic partners and 4 hookups. It's beyond repetitive. Tommy is the best partner for Buck. I want to see them happy together," or

"Tommy is the best partner for Buck because of xyz"

As @totallyjustabunchofhocuspocus said in her post:

"...a simple stock message is enough. "I'm a fan of this character/relationship, and it will keep me watching" is what execs want to hear. So let's make sure they hear it!"

Rant Time™ !!!

so i recently became invested in the 9-1-1 universe. not gonna lie I started with lone star because tk and carlos kept popping up all over my feeds everywhere with their wedding pics and of-fucking-course I immediately looked up the show because I'm not gonna pass up any canon queer rep?? hello!! anyway this ain't about tarlos. after I was done with lone star I started interacting with stuff from that fandom and came to find that one of the characters from the main show recently came out as bi and boy oh boy was I excited as fuck. two days later I'm starting my 9-1-1 binge. I knew absolutely nothing about the characters, storyline or the show except what I saw in the crossover episode and I was so pleasantly surprised that there's already canon queer rep present from the beginning of the show!!! (shout out to henren and michaeldavid absolute legends)

anyway I keep getting sidetracked, what I'm here to rant about is how fucking dumb some of the new watchers like me are?!! I had no idea how this t*mmy person was because all I knew was a gif of him kissing buck. you can imagine my surprise when I first saw him in the flashbacks and found out what an absolute dickwad he used to be?!?! and I could not believe that buck was gonna kiss this dude in the future. there was no fucking way. either there was gonna be a huge redemption character arc or something or he'll have a fuckin twin or something cause no chance they're setting future buck up with this asshole.

anyway lo and behold s2 comes around and in comes eddie diaz with this big brown eyes and slutty tank top and of course I knew who eddie was. come on now be for real. I might have not been a part of the fandom before but there's no way you can exist on tumblr and not know who eddie and buck were. and like any other shipping-prone fan, I thought people were setting buddie up based on subtle sterek-esque subtext but imagine my surprise when slowly throughout the show they became deancas-esque obvious. the connection they developed, the trust, the bond. how they found home and family and sense of belonging and safety in each other. how eddie and chris and buck himself baby trapped himself. I was so sure that buddie would eventually become canon in s7 because there's no other way right. maybe the the whole BT thing was some weird profound realization moment for buck or something.

back to the point. what I'm mad about is how the new watchers are completely Ignoring clear signs of buddie and on top of that shaming or right out calling the buddie shippers crazy all the while blindly supporting a character that is clearly a Major Fucking Dickwad from the beginning. making excuses like he was figuring himself out in the past or he's canonly queer while eddie clearly isn't. as if T*mmy figuring himself out excuses him being a shit person or the literal fact that just because eddie has not come out yet he's not queer. buck was straight UNTIL he came out as bi. anyway that's mostly all I wanted to say. yes I started the show because of a BT kiss gif but once I actually watched the show, it was easy to figure out what was right in front of me.

I urge new watchers like me to take the time and really understand and watch the show and not just look at it from face value or consume information through social media osmosis.

If we can truly be honest with ourselves here, Luke was already in Milan on June 15th for fashion week. We all know Antonia was with him. We also know she has continued to tag along with him everywhere this summer. So even if there was a deeper meaning to the pic (there isn't) it would mean fuck all.

Not once did he do anything to stave off the adverse reactions to the pap pics. In fact, he seemed to mostly bury his head. Only popping up for social/work events. He was working that day.

The pic was definitely planned as it followed director Billie Woodruff dropping several BTS pics, as well as Bessie Carter, and Sesley Hope.

Now the argument OP had against Luke posting the pic as PR was quite unimaginative, a hay house of sorts, but let's break it down.

The pic has nothing to do with Antonia at all. Luke was probably given the pic to post and did so without another thought about it. In fact it was probably already queued up as he was busy enough in Milan, for fashion week, with Antonia.

But let me just indulge you and say, "OP you're right. Luke posted that message directly to Nic. An olive branch."

as someone who is very invested in staying out of fandom hating, i just focus on speculation for the current main storyline which is the bobby, chim, hen and Ravi emergency - theres so much fun to be had without getting into ships (or maybe look up some interesting rarepairs ifyou want some variety but don't want to leave the shipping sphere!) like theorising how they could get out alive, the different scenarios in which each character may or may not survive and how that affects the plot, and their miraculous escapes bc we Obviously Can't Kill A Main Character

also so much discourse in the 9-1-1 fandom is just... silly and irrelevant to anything - i like to treat the ship and the ship's fandom as different things entirely so it doens't ruin the viewing experiecne

Honestly, my main issue isn’t even about shipping anymore — I mostly don’t care about it at this point.

I’d probably even be fine, or even glad, if we don’t get Buddie canon at the end of the season.

But it’s not about shipping. I’m upset because my favorite character is once again being pushed to the background.

I’m criticizing the show for not giving proper storylines to Chimney and Hen either.

I'm criticizing the show because it feels like everything is always about Buck, so it's not like I'm crazy or mad because of Buddie, no.

And I would love to theorize about what’s going to happen, how they’ll survive the next episode, who’s going to die, who’s not — but we already saw the BTS. Like… the cast really needs to stop spoiling things if they want me to stay invested.

And the problem is that this NDE thing — it’s just repetitive. It keeps happening over and over again. There’s nothing interesting in it for me.

Someone recently counted how many NDEs the characters had. I think the comparison is obvious.

Even if we forget about Eddie for a second — even in this episode, it didn’t feel like a strong storyline for me, sorry. Like, they’re locked in a lab. The villain is cartoonish again. Everything feels super rushed. One dramatic scene, literally one a very clichéd line from Ravi.

I wish I could feel excited about this, but I just can’t make myself care. Sorry.

I wish they would move this storyline to the next season and develop it better. It's just not good timing.

At the same time, these episodes are kinda strong compared to season 7. Definitely better, because I could barely make it through that season.

It's also my only non ship focused fic. (Even if my Frostiron brain certainly saw them getting together at some point after the events of the fic hehe)

the trees don't talk a very classic Loki wasn't the bad guy-type fic where Tony and Loki are staying together in a cabin in the woods after the events of The Avengers and slowly grow closer. It's one of my few finished multi chapter fics and I'm very proud of myself for that.

Memories of Tomorrow My current ongoing project. Tony and Loki are thrown back in time to Asgard 500 years ago and have to find a way back home. The theme of falling in love with someone's past and having to come to terms with the fact that that is no longer them in the present is the main focus of it. One of my favorite fics I have written so far.

My first ever attempt at writing a fic was actually for BTS (it's also where my username comes from lmao) but I am no longer active in the shipping part of that fandom and the fic I started is 100% abandoned. I have even considered orphaning it but I am attached to it in a strange way. I know it's bad but damn, those were my first writer baby steps.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes. It sometimes takes a while because I can be a little socially anxious and I worry that what I respond doesn't properly show how greateful I am, but I try my best.

6. Fic with the angstiest ending?

Anomaly It's about Tony and Loki being stuck in a time loop together, only they never find a way out. Tony's mind slowly crumbles until he loses all awareness and turns into just one of the mindless people unaware of the loops existing. Loki is doomed to be stuck in it for eternity, unable to do anything but watch Tony from afar. It's got a little kick, I'd say.

7. Fic with the happiest ending?

This one was actually a little hard for me to chose because most of my fics end in a happy, but somewhat ambiguous way. If I had to pick one, I think it would be in a heartbeat. It's just overall very light hearted and fluffy and happy.

8. Do you get hate?

No. I have gotten a few comments on my ongoing fic (Memories of Tomorrow) that made me uncomfortable but nothing that I would classify as hate toward me. Mostly it was directed toward how the characters acted within the fic and I think one person once mentioned my writing being ooc. I guess it stems from that fic being rather removed from the usual fanon interpretation and also it following an enemies to lovers route where they truly hate each other for a while.

But yeah, no hate toward me as a writer.

9. Do you write smut?

Sometimes. I just don't think I'm all that good at it to be honest.

10. Have you ever co-written a fic?

Not yet.

11. All time favourite ship?

Frostiron. I got really into it during the time Infinity War released and the obsession has not stopped ever since. I am afraid it's terminal, doc.

I also love Spirk (Spock x Kirk from Star Trek). The main reason why I have never written anything for them is because I watched the show in my native language and I am afraid I would botcher their voices when writing in English.

12. WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oof. I have three fics that I started posting with full intentions of finishing them only for the wind to blow completely out of my sails. I wouldn't say I want to finish them, but they do cross my mind occasionally and well, who knows?

And then there's this WIP for a fic about a Loki/Tony/Steve love triangle (a PROPER triangle, mind you, with all the drama that comes with it) that I love daydreaming about but I know will never see the light of day.

13. Writing strengths?

Dialogue. It comes very easily to me, almost as if there's a play going on in my head and I just have to transcribe what they are saying.

14. Writing weaknesses?

Transitions. How do people do them? Teach me your magic!!

Also any scene that is completely without dialogue. It's easy for me to turn a simple dialogue script into something more but when I don't have that starting point, it takes me twice as long and I am always afraid what I write turns out stiff and bland.

And I also stay stuck in the editing phase for my fics a lot. Sometimes I gotta let that one awkward sentence just stay awkward and I know staring at it for 3 hours won't help me, but yeah, I struggle to actually put that advice into practice.

Honestly it could be for many reasons...

First Ryan (up until a couple of months ago was public enemy number one) people still hadn't forgiven him for what happened in 2020 so shipping Oliver with a man they hated was not something they were gonna do. When bt started being awful to Ryan (sending d*ath threats, wishing he would off himself, calling him names, etc.) Many buddies who despised him started actually defending him, which made a lot start to rethink their opinions of him...

Also yes there is a LOT more content that there used to be back then but there actually was some content during s7 and yet people were still canceling you if you shipped them (I can vouch for that) so no I don't think it's the lack of content.

Also to clarify... Oliver is actually single. He confirmed it back in June during a live instagram interview (which I can't remember with whom it was) and Ryan is also currently divorced/separated so the fact that both of them are single probably contributed a lot.

So in my opinion it could be from that but mostly because (and I should thank them for this) bt insulting and being awful to Ryan make a LOT of people who hated him starting to like him again and in a very small way (and this is just a hypothesis on my part) this happens quite a lot when ships are about to go canon. People start projecting the ship onto the actors, especially when chemistry is REALLY huge

It's so interesting to me how hard some pjms will try to like other members. I think it really speaks of how pjms came to be in the first place. Contrary to what armys like to say, pjms aren't k-pop stans who hate BTS and token stan Jimin to hate on them. That narrative actually makes no sense considering Jimin is public enemy #1 for k-pop stans, so he's the last person they would choose to token stan. No, pjms are actually ex-armys that got fed up with all the bullshit and left the fandom. And you can still see their army roots. There's a reason pjms are the only competent solos who can actually organize and achieve things, cause before the hiatus armys used to be very good at getting shit done.

Being ex-armys is the reason pjms will occasionally be surprisingly nice towards the other members. Yes, they will drop any member the moment there's a perceived slight against Jimin cause they're still solos at the end of the day, but they'll try to like the members for as long as they can.

Pjms were never gonna be the biggest fans of Jungkook and Taehyung because there's too much competition there and all the shipping has always caused too much fighting, but they have never wanted to dislike the hyungline members and they still don't have to much beef with J-Hope, Jin and Namjoon.

Most pjms never liked Yoongi that much because of the bad taste jokes he constantly makes about Jimin, but they didn't start really hating him until the whole Face getting interrupted by D-Day situation.

Pjms didn't really love Namjoon's 'I wrote some lyrics' comment, but they don't really hate him and have been specially chill after those album exchange videos. They also appreciate him being one of the only members capable of saying actually thoughtful and interesting things about Jimin instead of just calling him cute. You will often see pjms using Namjoon quotes about Jimin. I've also seen a surprising amount of them praise Namjoon's music.

Jin is not normally on pjms's radar so they mostly don't talk about him, but when they do is not really negative (they even were wishing him a happy birthday last year). It remains to be seen how much of a grudge they'll hold over this situation, but I actually don't think it will be that much. The moment Jin does something nice to Jimin they'll get over it.

As we know, J-hope is pjm's favorite out of the six, which is a testament to how nice pjms can actually be considering his stans are worse than Namjoon's and Jin's with their whole 'who's the best dancer' competition (they're one of the main culprits behind the misconception that Jimin isn't a main dancer, so pjms are being real forgiving here). Seriously, look at the way pjms talk about J-Hope, it's so clear they used to be fans of these guys and don't actually want to hate all of them, they just want people to be nice to Jimin.

Why do you think J-hope's is pjms's favorite? It's not only cause he's the one Jimin seems closest to, but also because he's the member who matches Jimin's energy the best and is the only one who's always receptive to Jimin's affection and will return that affection (every time Jimin tries hugging another member pjms hold their breath waiting to see if they're gonna hug him back or be weirdly dismissive of him). There's never a doubt on whether or not J-Hope likes Jimin (unlike some people, I'm looking at you Jungkook), it has always been clear how much he loves Jimin and pjms really appreciate that. Like, you're never gonna see a "J-Hope HATES 😡 Jimin and here's proof" thread on Twitter (Jungkook I'm once again looking at you and I'm not looking nicely).

(Also, yes, I realize I'm proving my own point with the difference in the way I talk about the members, but despite me using 'them' when talking about pjms for the sake of the way I'm writing, I never claimed not to be one of them)

Armys's hatred of pjms and their insistence that pjms are the worst solos is so misplaced. Cause you know other solos would never be as nice to Jimin as pjms can be to other members. Jjks (the ones who are secretly tkkrs aside) specially would never try to like other members. Pjms really aren't the villains armys like to believe they are. Armys just hate pjms the most because 1) a lot of them just don't like Jimin but know they can't hate on him directly so they hate on his fans instead, and 2) pjms are the only solos who are a real threat to armys since the other solo fandoms are either too small or too incompetent.

It’s not that pjms are making an active effort to like any of the other members because they definitely are not. They can just be cordial (or at bare minimum) indifferent to the ones that are good to Jimin. Cause unlike other solos, for the most part pjms can be normal. It’s basically the same mindset any fan would have.

You've put way too much weight in how many chronically online people have any impact on this show. 9-1-1 is most likely going to get renewed and Buck will still be the fan favorite. Hey Anon - it's not about fandom, it's OS building his image and maintaining relevance even beyond the show...unfortunately a significant part of his job is about people online liking him because that's where people find out about him as a person/actor and I think he could be better at it and take opportunies and captialising on them more. So yes 911 interviews are generally for the 'chronically online' and mostly hardcore buddie fans but they do build an image of him and when he goes onto a new job be that a show or movie, people hiring will check his online prescence and how he interacts with audiences, and people (not all of course but enough to matter) watching whatever he moves on to will look him up, having good interesting and a variety of media is going to go a long way to him being accepted and liked, and people being invested.

I never said he had to be a warrior for LFJ, they don't have to like each other or be best friends, they are colleagues (and that's an entirely different conversation about the treatment of cast and crew in general not just guests like LFJ and is more so on the showrunner and companies) It's about what buck as a role means for OS future career, people love a good romance and a dynamic pairing, he could have capitalised on that more in my opinion because the media hype of there, we know it was because the shows marketing utilised that right up until they didnt by putting LFJ in bts and media opportunities about the pairing where that didnt exist for other LIs, especially after the Access Hollywood segment but OS didn't really do the same, he played it safe and seems to have placated, seemed to avoid the pairing afraid to face criticism from the loud minority.

Sure he wants the paycheck but if he wants more paycheck and a new project paying the paycheck in the future he needs to keep making himself stand out, being part of a liked and somewhat unique pairing that is referenced years to come will go further (BT get listed already in media pieces for their twist/kiss/relationship etc - buddie wont cut it because it's not going to be canon and won't help his career) beloved Buck yes, I love him too but there can always be more that OS can leverage off, the pairing could have been it. And yep I agree the show will be renewed for season 9, they need to promote their spinoff but how much longer after that? Hollywood is unpredictable there is no safe acting jobs, if OS doesnt leave others definitely will its presence and ability to trend is already fading, audiences are still good but decreasing, ABC will move their timeslot and market less, he should and probably always is on the look out for what next and he should!

I've had a few folks in DMs ask me how/why/when my shipping did such a completey 180. It's a fair question. I am, after all, someone who spent the last 2 years fervently Buddie shipping, writing fic for them, doing the same hoping/analyzing/searching etc that everyone else (well...not exactly the same, I've always been skeptical of most of the theories and such because I don't believe in a production's ability to be that sneaky, covert or mischievous).

And yet, here I am. I can't really even pretend I'm still a Buddie shipper anymore. Initially I said sure, I still hope for it. I...can't in all honesty say that now. I've firmly decamped for BuckTommy Land. Is this a recipe for heartbreak if they eventually breakup? Sure, but that's always a risk. No more than shipping a non-canon pairing, anyway.

And there's nothing wrong with shipping a non-canon pairing. People do it every day. Hell, it's practically the backbone of fandom. Obsessing about ships being canon is a one-way ticket to dissatisfaction and sometimes total unraveling. I've seen it happen more times than I can count over 30 years in online fandoms.

But if that's the case, why didn't I stay on Team Buddie? Why did I defect so thoroughly that I'm at the point now where not only do I not think Buddie will ever happen, I don't want it to, because I now want to see something different from those two characters, something I believe we will actually get from the writers.

The answer to that question is: I have no idea.

People ask this like I'm somehow in control of it. I'm not. The Fandom Brain is like The Claw in Toy Story. The Claw is our Master. The Claw decided who will go and who will stay.

Fandom Brain is my master. It decides what I'm going to ship, what I'm going to be fannish about and what I'm not, and when I'm going to stop feeling fannish about something. I have zero say in the matter, I'm just along for the ride. At some point in every fandom I have ever been in, my Fandom Brain has, usually with no provocation, decided "Ok we're done with this fandom now." And nothing I can do will make that not true. I can't force it. I can't cajole it. It just is.

Similarly, Fandom Brain has decided "Welp, we're done with this pairing now. We like THIS pairing now. Proceed." Are there reasons? I'm sure there are.

Is it just that it's a canon pairing? Possibly. There is something very seductive about a canon pairing after so long of looking for crumbs and tiny hints where there (mostly) none to find. But I've shipped plenty of non-canon pairings before.

Is it that I prefer Tommy/Lou to Eddie/Ryan? Absolutely not. I love Eddie, always have. I admit to being slightly more of a Buck girlie, but that doesn't mean Eddie means nothing to me.

Is it the immediate gratification? Maybe. Is it just how the relationship's being written? Possibly. Is it just a mental adjustment for my belief that Buddie will never happen, and Eddie will always be straight? Likely. But that doesn't change the outcome.

So here I sit, just...yep. Sometimes it just be like that. I didn't choose this, it's just what my brain decided was going to work for me going forward. If this goes up in smoke, my brain will choose something else, whether it's to run back to Buddie, or be done with 9-1-1 entirely, or who knows what else?

The good news for any of you who follow my writing is that I'm still working on the next Husbros installment. That universe is removed enough from the canon that it almost feels separate to me now, and I'm still feeling connected to it. Yes, I've written a few short BT fics, but so far I've not had any lengthy or involved plot bunnies for it.

So there you have it. I didn't choose the thug life, the thug life chose me. I don't know if I'd have chosen this if I could, but tbh I'm having a pretty good time with it so far, so. That's probably a big part of the reason.

Fans enter and then find jikook. 2 main things can happen then. 1. They become jikooker and remain jikooker. 2. They become jikooker but later move to become solo.

I've hardly heard of anyone coming into the fandom cause they somehow found jikook ship and got hooked onto it. But plenty have come through Taekook ship and then turned Tae solo. So Taekook ship "origin" for Tae solos - YES. Jikook ship origin for Jimin solos - rare.

Most people don't enter the Fandom as shippers to begin with. They come for a member or for bts and then they discover shipping. Save for a few people who come into the Fandom because of ships. I joined bts because of Yoonmin actually not the other way round. Prior to that I was mostly a Kai and Taemin stan as they were my foray into Kpop.

The way I see it is that it’s not the intention to have a huge part of fandom actually believe Jkk is real. That makes no sense to me, since BTS’s main targeted audience is girls (probably mostly teens and twenty-somethings). Having a ship (in the more classic way, not people actually believing in them being together) is good for attention. It causes a lot of fandom discourse, which is something companies want. They don’t actually want most people to think Jk and Jm are together, because if people actually think they are queer they would lose their dream of being with them themselves. BTS are meant to be seen as boyfriend material.

Jkk is much easier to contain. Their fandom follows company’s intent easily. Jkkrs are much less taken seriously. But, Jkkrs do a pretty thorough job in fandom discourse. And yes, because it’s not real.. it’s a safer bet. Let’s say no restrictions were put on Tae and Jk’s interactions. There would have been no Jkk fandom the way we see now. Jkkrs at large need Tkk to build their ideas around. Their comparison is always Jk and Jm to Jk and Tae. They have had to compared with Taekook ever since their fandom started to grow.

To the company having an actual queer couple as their main ship will always feel much more risky than having two friends as their ship. Even if both Jk and Jm identify as queer individuals themselves (and I think Jk does, and Jm possibly too) them not actually being together will still be a safety guard in place.

Mostly buddie and bucktommy thoughts, but some general fandom feels too

I am glad Buck is canonically bi.

I am very sad Eddie is not canonically gay.

I want Buck and Eddie to get together.

While things in TV can turn on a dime, it looks clear from the most recent episodes that they don't intend to have buddie be a canon relationship.

At the start of the season I was very enthusiastic about the character of Tommy being around long-term.

I am not feeling any chemistry between Buck and Tommy when they are in scenes together. This isn't just because of my buddie shipping goggles - as much as I disliked Buck and Taylor together, they did spark off each other. I am just not feeling it from the other BT.

I am really disappointed by the structure of the few scenes with Buck and Tommy that we did have. If Tommy had turned up in a slightly silly costume to the party and still had had to leave I would be finding it hard not to love him. If they had just switched the dinner date scene around and started with the daddy kink flirting and then had Tommy go beyond that to ask if Buck was actually OK after Bobby's coma, I would be thinking that with enough time we might see as much of a connection between them as we see between Buck and Eddie.

Depressingly, I don't think the writing teams are trying to drop us subtle hints that Buck/Tommy are inherently doomed, I think they are just fucking up. Which doesn't bode well for future scenes between Buck and Tommy being something I will enjoy.

While I want Buck and Eddie to get together and didn't think their previous LIs would have been good life partners for them, in the fandom there was a lot of deliberate misreading of scenes involving the women and a worrying level of hate directed towards the actresses. Yes, there were some justified callouts about the actions of some of the actresses. We should never, ever accept bigotry. But we all know we have seen actual full-on misogyny from many fans too.

I read 911 fandom posts on many platforms and I have seen this behaviour on Tumblr, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Discord, you name it. While we would love to think the people on whatever platform we don't use are the horrible ones, I see it across the board.

That deliberate misreading of scenes and cruelty towards real people is now spreading to both Eddie and Tommy, and their respective actors. Part of me wants to flippantly say "Diversity Win!" but racism and homophobia are wriggling their way into 911 fandom posts and we need to do better.

I am feeling gloomy about S8. I don't think a summer break is going to fix any of the issues I have with the show. If you love how things are going then I am happy for you! I'll probably still boost the gorgeous fanart and insightful metas that I often see. But this is a reminder to others, and to myself, that if a show is making us sad, we can just go watch something else. It's OK. We're OK.
