Long ask anon with an even longer ask (I truly don’t know how to make long story short, but I can do the reverse), sorry. I am dividing this in two parts in case you decide to post this, so it would not be such an essay.

Part 1. Intro

Something has been eating up at me for a while but I only recently gathered the courage to do anything more than lurking. I actually am quite new to this, mostly because I was not allowing myself to even get into this in the first place. I am a very chill person when it comes to celebrities, I truly couldn’t care less about their lives, don’t even follow them on SM (L and N included) (not that I use SM all that much to begin with), I don’t know why but it always seems strange for me to be invested in strangers’ lives. I am not big of a fan girl either, especially media wise, I am much more interested in books and have no patience for tv shows most of the time. All of this to say, this is unusual behavior for me, watching all of the interviews with repetitive questions (those poor actors having to repeat themselves over and over again), paying attention to actors (beyond just knowing their names).

Polin is one of the rare ships that captured my interest, so I was very excited to learn about s3 being them, and when the wait for even the slightest info seem to be dragging on endlessly those interviews served as a great entertainment. Until they were not, until I started noticing things I wished not to. What started as “oh, they are so cute, and charming, and their friendship is so endearing!” very quickly turned into “babes, WHAT THE F*CK DID I JUST SAW/HEARD?” At one point I was honestly thinking “did I miss something? Are they together? What is going on?” So I checked, out of curiosity nothing more, but found nothing OFFICIAL suggesting that (as in N nor L never claimed anything). So I moved on, watched the show, other interviews (my brows still rising at some points), and then post Part 2 premiere I saw the picture on IG.

Everyone on internet seemed to be screaming about Ls’ GF, and being absolutely vile to him, which I found so disgusting I immediately checked out of the situation and turned my attention back on fiction again. It would be insincere of me not to admit to a certain disappoint on such a development, but that was as far as it would go. Though I can also truthfully say that that girl was not giving me the best impression based on the picture, something just seemed off. I only saw one at that point, where it appeared as if they were holding hands, why did it seem off? Because L looked displeased, almost angry, his eyes averted from cameras, while she was boldly looking right on them smiling as if she was walking her red carpet. As I said that was that, just continued watching the show, reading Polin fanfiction, hung out on a Polin reddit account and some Polin Tumblr blogs. And then I stumbled upon your blog (it was already past papgate 2.0), and now I’m on this bloody ship, and can not seem to force myself overboard, because those two are so soulmate coded (and yes, I realize how cheesy that sounds).

What has been bugging me, is that most, if not all, in this fandom seem to be of the opinion that L is the primary reason why N/L are yet to develop into lovers phase of this friends to lovers arc. From outright blaming him to passive aggressively calling him a dummy for not going after N. And I comprehend that most of it comes from the presence of a certain adjacent. But putting aside the OBVIOUS, LOGICAL point that we, non of us, are privy to their real lives, and bts truth, I still don’t see where that point of view comes from. I know that everyone says L is most like his character, so perhaps part of it is projection of that, but for me it always seems that L is actually a Penelope of this situation. To me, he himself gives it away.

I have never thought L was the hang up in this situation. I think N has been burned in love, is pretty closed off with this stuff, and a TOTAL workaholic. L DEFINITELY fell first (no one can convince me otherwise). L also seems to kind of be a hopeless romantic and public lover boy, which I don't think N is use to. so i recently became invested in the 9-1-1 universe. not gonna lie I started with lone star because tk and carlos kept popping up all over my feeds everywhere with their wedding pics and of-fucking-course I immediately looked up the show because I'm not gonna pass up any canon queer rep?? hello!! anyway this ain't about tarlos. after I was done with lone star I started interacting with stuff from that fandom and came to find that one of the characters from the main show recently came out as bi and boy oh boy was I excited as fuck. two days later I'm starting my 9-1-1 binge. I knew absolutely nothing about the characters, storyline or the show except what I saw in the crossover episode and I was so pleasantly surprised that there's already canon queer rep present from the beginning of the show!!! (shout out to henren and michaeldavid absolute legends)

anyway I keep getting sidetracked, what I'm here to rant about is how fucking dumb some of the new watchers like me are?!! I had no idea how this t*mmy person was because all I knew was a gif of him kissing buck. you can imagine my surprise when I first saw him in the flashbacks and found out what an absolute dickwad he used to be?!?! and I could not believe that buck was gonna kiss this dude in the future. there was no fucking way. either there was gonna be a huge redemption character arc or something or he'll have a fuckin twin or something cause no chance they're setting future buck up with this asshole.

anyway lo and behold s2 comes around and in comes eddie diaz with this big brown eyes and slutty tank top and of course I knew who eddie was. come on now be for real. I might have not been a part of the fandom before but there's no way you can exist on tumblr and not know who eddie and buck were. and like any other shipping-prone fan, I thought people were setting buddie up based on subtle sterek-esque subtext but imagine my surprise when slowly throughout the show they became deancas-esque obvious. the connection they developed, the trust, the bond. how they found home and family and sense of belonging and safety in each other. how eddie and chris and buck himself baby trapped himself. I was so sure that buddie would eventually become canon in s7 because there's no other way right. maybe the the whole BT thing was some weird profound realization moment for buck or something.

back to the point. what I'm mad about is how the new watchers are completely Ignoring clear signs of buddie and on top of that shaming or right out calling the buddie shippers crazy all the while blindly supporting a character that is clearly a Major Fucking Dickwad from the beginning. making excuses like he was figuring himself out in the past or he's canonly queer while eddie clearly isn't. as if T*mmy figuring himself out excuses him being a shit person or the literal fact that just because eddie has not come out yet he's not queer. buck was straight UNTIL he came out as bi. anyway that's mostly all I wanted to say. yes I started the show because of a BT kiss gif but once I actually watched the show, it was easy to figure out what was right in front of me.

I urge new watchers like me to take the time and really understand and watch the show and not just look at it from face value or consume information through social media osmosis.

Honestly it could be for many reasons...

First Ryan (up until a couple of months ago was public enemy number one) people still hadn't forgiven him for what happened in 2020 so shipping Oliver with a man they hated was not something they were gonna do. When bt started being awful to Ryan (sending d*ath threats, wishing he would off himself, calling him names, etc.) Many buddies who despised him started actually defending him, which made a lot start to rethink their opinions of him...

Also yes there is a LOT more content that there used to be back then but there actually was some content during s7 and yet people were still canceling you if you shipped them (I can vouch for that) so no I don't think it's the lack of content.

Also to clarify... Oliver is actually single. He confirmed it back in June during a live instagram interview (which I can't remember with whom it was) and Ryan is also currently divorced/separated so the fact that both of them are single probably contributed a lot.

So in my opinion it could be from that but mostly because (and I should thank them for this) bt insulting and being awful to Ryan make a LOT of people who hated him starting to like him again and in a very small way (and this is just a hypothesis on my part) this happens quite a lot when ships are about to go canon. People start projecting the ship onto the actors, especially when chemistry is REALLY huge

With all due respect, "He could have built his presence as the main character of a beloved TV ship and finish his time on 911 (because it'll finish sooner rather than later) on a real high with people loving his character actually progressing and finishing his characters quest of finding love, especially off the back of all that great media attention." You've put way too much weight in how many chronically online people have any impact on this show. 9-1-1 is most likely going to get renewed and Buck will still be the fan favorite. Oliver not being a Lou warrior is not a deterrent of how the general audience see Buck.

Also, more important, why should he have to? Maybe he just wants a paycheck. It's not a fandom for him, it's just a job.

Hey Anon - it's not about fandom, it's OS building his image and maintaining relevance even beyond the show...unfortunately a significant part of his job is about people online liking him because that's where people find out about him as a person/actor and I think he could be better at it and take opportunies and captialising on them more. So yes 911 interviews are generally for the 'chronically online' and mostly hardcore buddie fans but they do build an image of him and when he goes onto a new job be that a show or movie, people hiring will check his online prescence and how he interacts with audiences, and people (not all of course but enough to matter) watching whatever he moves on to will look him up, having good interesting and a variety of media is going to go a long way to him being accepted and liked, and people being invested.

I never said he had to be a warrior for LFJ, they don't have to like each other or be best friends, they are colleagues (and that's an entirely different conversation about the treatment of cast and crew in general not just guests like LFJ and is more so on the showrunner and companies) It's about what buck as a role means for OS future career, people love a good romance and a dynamic pairing, he could have capitalised on that more in my opinion because the media hype of there, we know it was because the shows marketing utilised that right up until they didnt by putting LFJ in bts and media opportunities about the pairing where that didnt exist for other LIs, especially after the Access Hollywood segment but OS didn't really do the same, he played it safe and seems to have placated, seemed to avoid the pairing afraid to face criticism from the loud minority.

Sure he wants the paycheck but if he wants more paycheck and a new project paying the paycheck in the future he needs to keep making himself stand out, being part of a liked and somewhat unique pairing that is referenced years to come will go further (BT get listed already in media pieces for their twist/kiss/relationship etc - buddie wont cut it because it's not going to be canon and won't help his career) beloved Buck yes, I love him too but there can always be more that OS can leverage off, the pairing could have been it. And yep I agree the show will be renewed for season 9, they need to promote their spinoff but how much longer after that? Hollywood is unpredictable there is no safe acting jobs, if OS doesnt leave others definitely will its presence and ability to trend is already fading, audiences are still good but decreasing, ABC will move their timeslot and market less, he should and probably always is on the look out for what next and he should!

I've had a few folks in DMs ask me how/why/when my shipping did such a completey 180. It's a fair question. I am, after all, someone who spent the last 2 years fervently Buddie shipping, writing fic for them, doing the same hoping/analyzing/searching etc that everyone else (well...not exactly the same, I've always been skeptical of most of the theories and such because I don't believe in a production's ability to be that sneaky, covert or mischievous).

And yet, here I am. I can't really even pretend I'm still a Buddie shipper anymore. Initially I said sure, I still hope for it. I...can't in all honesty say that now. I've firmly decamped for BuckTommy Land. Is this a recipe for heartbreak if they eventually breakup? Sure, but that's always a risk. No more than shipping a non-canon pairing, anyway.

And there's nothing wrong with shipping a non-canon pairing. People do it every day. Hell, it's practically the backbone of fandom. Obsessing about ships being canon is a one-way ticket to dissatisfaction and sometimes total unraveling. I've seen it happen more times than I can count over 30 years in online fandoms.

But if that's the case, why didn't I stay on Team Buddie? Why did I defect so thoroughly that I'm at the point now where not only do I not think Buddie will ever happen, I don't want it to, because I now want to see something different from those two characters, something I believe we will actually get from the writers.

The answer to that question is: I have no idea.

People ask this like I'm somehow in control of it. I'm not. The Fandom Brain is like The Claw in Toy Story. The Claw is our Master. The Claw decided who will go and who will stay.

Fandom Brain is my master. It decides what I'm going to ship, what I'm going to be fannish about and what I'm not, and when I'm going to stop feeling fannish about something. I have zero say in the matter, I'm just along for the ride. At some point in every fandom I have ever been in, my Fandom Brain has, usually with no provocation, decided "Ok we're done with this fandom now." And nothing I can do will make that not true. I can't force it. I can't cajole it. It just is.

Similarly, Fandom Brain has decided "Welp, we're done with this pairing now. We like THIS pairing now. Proceed." Are there reasons? I'm sure there are.

Is it just that it's a canon pairing? Possibly. There is something very seductive about a canon pairing after so long of looking for crumbs and tiny hints where there (mostly) none to find. But I've shipped plenty of non-canon pairings before.

Is it that I prefer Tommy/Lou to Eddie/Ryan? Absolutely not. I love Eddie, always have. I admit to being slightly more of a Buck girlie, but that doesn't mean Eddie means nothing to me.

Is it the immediate gratification? Maybe. Is it just how the relationship's being written? Possibly. Is it just a mental adjustment for my belief that Buddie will never happen, and Eddie will always be straight? Likely. But that doesn't change the outcome.

So here I sit, just...yep. Sometimes it just be like that. I didn't choose this, it's just what my brain decided was going to work for me going forward. If this goes up in smoke, my brain will choose something else, whether it's to run back to Buddie, or be done with 9-1-1 entirely, or who knows what else?

The good news for any of you who follow my writing is that I'm still working on the next Husbros installment. That universe is removed enough from the canon that it almost feels separate to me now, and I'm still feeling connected to it. Yes, I've written a few short BT fics, but so far I've not had any lengthy or involved plot bunnies for it.

So there you have it. I didn't choose the thug life, the thug life chose me. I don't know if I'd have chosen this if I could, but tbh I'm having a pretty good time with it so far, so. That's probably a big part of the reason.

Fans enter and then find jikook. 2 main things can happen then. 1. They become jikooker and remain jikooker. 2. They become jikooker but later move to become solo.

I've hardly heard of anyone coming into the fandom cause they somehow found jikook ship and got hooked onto it. But plenty have come through Taekook ship and then turned Tae solo. So Taekook ship "origin" for Tae solos - YES. Jikook ship origin for Jimin solos - rare.

Most people don't enter the Fandom as shippers to begin with. They come for a member or for bts and then they discover shipping. Save for a few people who come into the Fandom because of ships. The way I see it is that it’s not the intention to have a huge part of fandom actually believe Jkk is real. That makes no sense to me, since BTS’s main targeted audience is girls (probably mostly teens and twenty-somethings). Having a ship (in the more classic way, not people actually believing in them being together) is good for attention. It causes a lot of fandom discourse, which is something companies want. They don’t actually want most people to think Jk and Jm are together, because if people actually think they are queer they would lose their dream of being with them themselves. BTS are meant to be seen as boyfriend material.

Jkk is much easier to contain. Their fandom follows company’s intent easily. Jkkrs are much less taken seriously. But, Jkkrs do a pretty thorough job in fandom discourse. And yes, because it’s not real.. it’s a safer bet. Let’s say no restrictions were put on Tae and Jk’s interactions. There would have been no Jkk fandom the way we see now. Jkkrs at large need Tkk to build their ideas around. Their comparison is always Jk and Jm to Jk and Tae. They have had to compared with Taekook ever since their fandom started to grow.

To the company having an actual queer couple as their main ship will always feel much more risky than having two friends as their ship. Even if both Jk and Jm identify as queer individuals themselves (and I think Jk does, and Jm possibly too) them not actually being together will still be a safety guard in place.

While things in TV can turn on a dime, it looks clear from the most recent episodes that they don't intend to have buddie be a canon relationship.

At the start of the season I was very enthusiastic about the character of Tommy being around long-term.

I am not feeling any chemistry between Buck and Tommy when they are in scenes together. This isn't just because of my buddie shipping goggles - as much as I disliked Buck and Taylor together, they did spark off each other. I am just not feeling it from the other BT.

I am really disappointed by the structure of the few scenes with Buck and Tommy that we did have. If Tommy had turned up in a slightly silly costume to the party and still had had to leave I would be finding it hard not to love him. If they had just switched the dinner date scene around and started with the daddy kink flirting and then had Tommy go beyond that to ask if Buck was actually OK after Bobby's coma, I would be thinking that with enough time we might see as much of a connection between them as we see between Buck and Eddie.

Depressingly, I don't think the writing teams are trying to drop us subtle hints that Buck/Tommy are inherently doomed, I think they are just fucking up. Which doesn't bode well for future scenes between Buck and Tommy being something I will enjoy.

While I want Buck and Eddie to get together and didn't think their previous LIs would have been good life partners for them, in the fandom there was a lot of deliberate misreading of scenes involving the women and a worrying level of hate directed towards the actresses. Yes, there were some justified callouts about the actions of some of the actresses. We should never, ever accept bigotry. But we all know we have seen actual full-on misogyny from many fans too.

I read 911 fandom posts on many platforms and I have seen this behaviour on Tumblr, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Discord, you name it. While we would love to think the people on whatever platform we don't use are the horrible ones, I see it across the board.

That deliberate misreading of scenes and cruelty towards real people is now spreading to both Eddie and Tommy, and their respective actors. Part of me wants to flippantly say "Diversity Win!" but racism and homophobia are wriggling their way into 911 fandom posts and we need to do better.

I am feeling gloomy about S8. I don't think a summer break is going to fix any of the issues I have with the show. If you love how things are going then I am happy for you! I'll probably still boost the gorgeous fanart and insightful metas that I often see. But this is a reminder to others, and to myself, that if a show is making us sad, we can just go watch something else. It's OK. We're OK.

Apologizes in advance if this is not the most well worded because this is the thing that probably annoys me the most of all the things BT Stan’s say. This coming from someone that is a diehard destiel fan and has been for over a decade. I hate that they try to make that comparison. And honestly I’m so embarrassed by fellow destiel shippers who abandoned Buddie for BT.

Here’s the thing. Yes Cas wasn’t meant to have a long arc and they decided to keep him because of fan response. However, he was brought in as a part of a HUGE plot-arc for the show (the introduction of Angels as a supernatural creature and all that comes with literal angels) so even if he wasn’t meant to be the angel that stayed long term, there was meant to be a long-term plot with angels. And as soon as they decided to keep him they delivered on actually developing him as a character.

Additionally, Misha and Jensen had great chemistry right away. Even platonic chemistry that general audience could see. Despite the small group that love them, most people can see that Oliver and Lou don’t have that much chemistry. Destiel as a ship started right away, yes, much like Buddie was a ship almost as soon as Eddie showed up (to the point where they were putting things in like the Elf scene as a nod to what the fans saw). But, like Buddie, Destiel became what it was because of SEASONS of development and build up and devotion to each other over and over again. Also they tried repeatedly to kill off Cas and the ratings plummeted every time so they had to bring him back - Tommy is not important or well liked enough for that, but you know which pairing is? Buddie - who Tim admitted the show suffered for when they were split up.

Also, yes Misha gained a cultlike following - but what did he use it for? To start charities like GISHWISHES for random acts of kindness. He talked about his character and headcanons but he did so mostly either for free online (Twitter) or at sanctioned conventions. And he did so after he was kept on as an established main character. He did not charge fans on cameo to make things up to try and boost his own career. Also a reminder that his first season aired in 2008 - there wasn’t the massive amounts of social media then to amass the cult the way they’ve done (there was no Instagram to spam with duplicate accounts, no showrunner open to DMs) Cas was kept on the show because the general audience and fandom loved him - outside of Dean.

Both are characters that were introduced to have a short arc, and there was fandom response to them - that is where the comparisons end. Comparing the two is an insult to Cas and Misha.

Personally, I was never that invested in Supernatural, so for me it was just another thing that was added, but I completely agree with you, Cas completely changed the game and he was brought in at a time that you couldn't fake that type of approval, because we were talking about a network show in 2008, like, there were no big things, they were forums where we were discussing fandom and stuff like that but there wasn't something like Twitter or the cameos or even Tumblr in the size that it is now. And it was because the general audience loved Cas, he was a great audition to the show especially considering the circumstances in which he was added, everything about season 4. So it's not really a fair comparison because Misha actually got a cult-like following naturally, he organically became what he is now, and it's not something you can fake, you can't fabricate what they did with Castiel and Misha. You can't replicate what happened because of a very specific set of circumstances aligning perfectly. A lot of it comes to the fact, like you said the chemistry between Misha and Jensen was insane and you didn't have something comparable in the show yet and they just kept building on top of it. You had the fact that everyone saw Dean as bisexual and you had the devotion that Cas showed towards Dean, you had no way to work around it you, it was what he was. And that in 911 it is buddie, Eddie was introduced after the show was already airing, the chemistry Oliver has with Ryan is palpable, and the show built the relationship. You can't do it again on the show, you can't shove him in the space that's already filled. Yes, Cas was brought in for an arc but he was always supposed to have consequences within the universe and obviously the reaction to him made him stay longer and it was something, yk, like people really like the character. Cas kind of gave a second life to the show. It allowed fandom to create something that didn't exist there yet and he ended up being really really well received. So they obviously played with that. It's not the same situation as trying to fabricate a connection that's not there when, you don't have the same level of chemistry, and you already have a ship that is filling that space, you can't really force that to happen because it has to happen organically to have lasting effects.

I finally watched the finale of 911 season 7 and my thoughts are below the break.

I have a lot of feelings about what they did and some of them are pretty "oof". Anyway, I realize I swept into Buddie fandom like two months ago and fell deeply in love with Buck and Eddie but after everything that is happening in fandom and in the show, I may slip back out as quickly as I came in because I'm not sure I can deal with the ship wars between now and season 8.

So yeah, if you want to hear what I think about where everything ended up, keep reading. Also...still a Buddie shipper in case it needs to be said 😅

SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT PROCEED W/CAUTION

First, Eddie's story has me absolutely heartbroken even if I suspected a lot of it. Chris calling his grandparents, him leaving even if temporary. I knew it was coming and it still hit me really hard. I know Gavin was considering pulling back so I get it. And Chris will obviously still be a part of Eddie's narrative but ouch that hurt.

Next, the scene between Buck and Tommy was just icky to me. Daddy kink is one of those things I filter out of fic because it's a major fucking squick so the fact that Tim Minear put that on my screen against my will nearly had me throwing hands. Any positive I was trying to find in their date interaction was quickly vomited out all over my coffee table.

I'm not optimistic about Tommy leaving quickly in season 8 for any reason. The date was very much a get to know you situation and while I thought Tommy was being a bit harsh about Bobby, I can guarantee the BT's are probably drooling over the implications of that scene.

(This is one of the things seriously impacting my desire not to watch this show anymore.)

On to Hen and Mara - I am very glad we have a mostly resolved situation with Mara going in to season 8. Honestly this whole story line felt unnecessary and written for the sake of drama. The show is feeling very soapy and while I was giving it the benefit of the doubt because of how much the writers were trying to do in 10 episodes, they better knock that shit off. It's a far cry from the writing of episodes like Buck Begins. (The second reason I may not watch anymore.)

Also, every once in a while Athena does something that makes me absolutely despise her character and this episode was one of those situations. Her jumping to conclusions and threatening Amil was just, rushed, overly dramatic and felt unnecessary

If you needed to get her to Amils house for the cartel arrival, maybe have her go without homicidal tendencies?

Honestly the only storyline that got any room to breath in this episode was Eddie's.

Which brings me to my final thoughts, specific to Buddie and the future of that ship in canon.

First, that will is never going to come up again. It belongs to us now. The writers have elected to ignore it for three seasons and it's never going to come up again, unless Eddie actually dies.

Second, the continuation of BT and the loss of Christopher is like a fucking death knell for Buddie in canon imo. I hate it, but without Chris, they are no longer a little family. Whatever magic was happening with Buddie up to the shooting scene has not been recaptured, and I'm not sure it's ever going to be at this rate, especially I'd the writers don't fix their soapy garbage.

Am I old and cynical? Yes. Does that make me wrong? Maybe...but right now what we have is Buck happily engaged in a weird Daddy kink relationship, Chris, one of the main points of connection between Eddie and Buck, out of the picture, and Eddie probably finding God and repenting for his sins.

Okay I made that last part up but it's a real fear!

In either case, I feel like we were horribly ship bated all season, and it was done only to create buzz for the show on a new network with a new queer character.

I miss when fandom didn't have access to creators and didn't feel like a place you could win because the BTs are going to be A NIGHTMARE for the rest of the hiatus and frankly I don't want to deal with toxic ship wars while we all wait for season 8.

About two years ago, maybe a bit more, I finally reached the point where I wanted to avoid nearly all shipping spaces on social media. It all felt so repetitive and the constant reinvention of events by people who didn't even bother watching actual content (that is mostly free) was making me angry. A few days ago, I went on Twitter AND on shipper spaces here on Tumblr, mostly because I miss BTS so much that I thought I'd find like-minded people. Now I feel I could wash my brain and my eyes with bleach. I just don't get it. I don't understand how the 7 people I love so much and who felt so close to me, almost like friends, can be viewed the way they are today. Shipper's space fells like 50% complete invention of events that never happened (and yes, Jikooker spaces are as guilty as others of that nowadays, since "new" shippers don't bother watching any original content), and 50% constantly looking for drama. Out of shippers' space it's not better, drama, drama, drama, all day long and the absolute madness that are the solo akagaes. That word used to be considered such an insult if it was thrown at you, nowadays it's like people are proud to wear it as an insigna. I am utterly disgusted. Which is why I was happy seeing the last few posts on your blog. Old original content, no ridiculous interpretation of anything, just moments, here and there. I've never been one to say this before, and maybe I'll show my age by doing so, but let me say it for once : things used to be so much nicer in the fandom.

Right, I'm back. I didn't post anything yesterday because I thought it's best not to rush. But it was indeed fascinating to see reactions in real time to the photo. Yes, I'm talking about the photo posted on IG of JM, JK and another person.

I think I must have read opinions that varied on a entire spectrum and expressed quite vehemently. It's safe to say everyone has really strong opinions and you either condemn it or you're totally fine with it, as long as you pick a side and don't question anything. In sitautions such as these, the tendency to add just a touch of conspiracy is right there. And it gets a pass when there's a lack of information, a language barrier, etc.

I too have my own questions and observations, to which I don't necesarily need an answer, but I'll just write them down.

1. I couldn't help but think of how deep the level of social media stalking is in this fandom. I looked up the account immediately as I saw a screenshot because initially there was confusion about the source. That guy made no previous photo uploads of either JM or JK. At a first glance, there is nothing to connect him to them. And still he had fan accounts following him, before it all blew up and he gained a lot more. My question is, how did that happen? Are there people who look up Jimin's followers list and they try to figure out if there's someone from an inner circle? In all those 50 million people? Do they check some select few accounts daily to see if there's a possibility of a post? The logistics of this are giving me a headache. Or maybe there's some obvious, easier answer and I don't know it.

2. Considering that the account is public, it's not like the photo is leaked. I don't know exactly the nature of the relationship that man has/had with JM & JK and I do not wish to make any speculation with regards to his intentions.

3. I think the outrage was mostly caused by jikookers bringing back to the surface that old photo under the heart arch. Which indeed paints a certain picture, but it's also not the most incriminatory thing out there. I don't think there's any real actual danger, considering that it was supposedly taken from Jungkook's dad Kakao talk. If that's true then it means the dad was ok with showing it.

3. What I personally believe should not have happened was to circulate that photo so easily on social media. People knew about it for a long time, even before someone posted it on I-Jikook twitter. But in cases like these, the photos will always be revealed. They will leave the group chats and out into the wild usually for a petty reason. Because at the end of the day, that's the issue. It has nothing to do with giving a shit about the people in the photo, it's about winning a shipping argument, about screaming "we won". Win what exactly???? It shows who is in it for the fantasy. No single argument could work for them. Replying on and on about deleting doesn't matter.

4. Maybe my last point, but this situation has revealed some things which were already known, but maybe not really articulated specifically all the time. As people not only part of the fandom, but also using social media 24/7, our ideas about privacy and what we should have access to when it comes to public figures has certainly been influenced by the current landscape. In the case of JM & JK particularly, they have been sharing pieces of themselves for more than a decade. It was the BH strategy, the BTS brand. It worked wonders because look at the huge fandom it gathered and the relationship that was built between idol and fan. Hell, Jungkook is doubling down heavy on it with his livestreams. How can anyone really expect a mass of people to really stop and think about privacy? We ourselves as regular people curate our social media image and we voice our opinions and share the places we go to, who are our friends, what parties we attended, when we get into a relationship. Every mundane or special occassion is posted for public consumption. I'm not saying this as some excuse that would justify sharing what looks like a private photo. What I'm saying is that it's to be expected in a way. As harsh as it is, but we live in this reality where the line between the public and private sphere is getting more invisible day by day.

What I think it's scary is that if there's a situation in which an actual compromising photo would somehow be leaked and which can be in the detriment of the people in it for various reasons, so called fans would still share it as proof. Because it doesn't matter for them. It's the high of finding it, of screaming about it on social media, without thinking for more than a second about possible implications. Everything needs to be done fast, regardless of consequences because people need to feed themselves with gossip and leaks.

I'm really just rambling here and not making too much sense. Anyway, I think we should always take a step back and really assess the situation and not scream about it, regardless of our position. Not everything is a threat, or privacy violation or putting people in danger, but it doesn't mean that it needs to be treated lightly as if it's no big deal (which usually comes from people who care more about their own safisfaction and feeling like a "winner").
