yeah alicent does come across "worse" in fire and blood. but idk why people get so angsty about the show giving alicent a sympathetic edit specifically, as if literally almost every other central character isnt also getting a more sympathetic edit... they didnt single alicent out in this. rhaenyra is worse in the book. daemon is worse in the book. aemond is worse in the book. (aegon is literally the only one who got done dirty tbh.) and even then alicent wasnt that bad in the book, like, comparatively, she was ranking pretty low on the 'evil deeds' leaderboard. she didnt get to actively commit even one atrocity. honestly these characters being more 'sympathetic' in hotd is just a natural symptom of them being written as entire, conflicted human beings rather than the cardboard cut outs with no inner lives gyldayn presents us with in fire and blood.
like you're allowed to have an issue with how they crafted that complexity, without pretending that the flat version of a character that existed in the "historical" account would be at all workable for an intimate portrayal
#god knows i do#im so fed up of arguing this point#but i will continue to do so it enters the collective hotd fanbase psyche#really dont know why people want a cersei 2.0 so badly#...actually i do. but i think its dumb.#hotd#alicent hightower#pro alicent hightower#yes even the book version#book alicent#f&b#fire and blood

Sskk redraw of a panel from The Disabled Tyrants Beloved Pet Fish
#my art#bsd#bungo stray dogs#sskk#the disabled tyrant's beloved pet fish#yes I know that title is insane and if you see the summary of the book it’s even more insane but HEAR ME OUT#DESPITE BEING A CRAZY SOUNDING PLOT it’s actually so funny and sweet#like it’s so cute I can’t believe I finished the entire first book in one day#basically a guy was isekaied into a webnovel he was reading and became a goldfish#and he had to become the evil tyrants pet goldfish as his quest or he dies#he does and he crushes his enemies with the power of being an adorable helpless fish#and like halfway through the book he gets the ability to be human for like 2 hours a day so he’s just running around the castle eating food#anyways so this scene is when the tyrant (akutagawa) catches the human version of the fish (atsushi) climbing out the window#and aku thinks atsushi stole his pet fish#anyways that’s my mini summary GO READ JT#ITS WEIRD BUT I LOVE IT

It's always so funny to me when people call Kaz a serial killer or a murderer bc like. boy do I have news for you about the other crows.
#like idk how to tell you this bestie but every single one of them has a kill count. yes even wylan.#prime example of getting so caught up in the aesthetics or character types that you miss the actual reality of what happens in#a story#also i'm not sure serial killer is even an accurate description#similar to when people started referring to inej as an assassin. like bestie that is straight up not what she does. and if it was she's#doing a terrible job. the books tell you a million times that she's a spy#to be clear this isn't an 'uwu kaz did nothing wrong' post esp bc most of the time when ppl call him this they're not actually criticizing#his actions. it's just a pattern i noticed. if anything its a 'stop sanitizing the rest of the crows' post.#but it is interesting to me that kaz is the only character that people will really joke about having killed people#something something you've bought into the dirtyhands legend#i feel like i've made some version of this post in the past but i don't remember so you're hearing it again#six of crows#kaz brekker#inej ghafa#jesper fahey#wylan van eck#matthias helvar#nina zenik

Unpopular Opinion: Every time a black female character (especially if this black female character is dark skinned) enters into a relationship with the popular fan-favorite white male character usually one of three things happen a. the black female character is now headcanoned as a lesbian (never bisexual or queer or anything that would leave the character with the possibility of still entering into a relationship with a man) b. white male character is now shipped with other popular fan-favorite white male character/other white female character (the popular fan-favorite white male character is usually headcanoned to be bisexual and when he is, shipped with a woman that woman is always white) or c. black female character (and sometimes their actresses) is now being talked about as if they are the devil himself.
Wanting characters to explore their sexuality is fine but I always find it odd how this always happens when one member of the relationship is a black/blackish woman. *forgot to mention the suddenly polyamorous relationship the three (black female, white male and white male/woman) characters are now without a doubt in*
Anon you spoke nothing, but facts right here 🙌🏽
(The only thing I’d add is that they don’t just do this when the woman in question is with a white man, see Namor and Shuri and the backlash some shippers got for shipping them).
You aren’t the only one who has been noticing this trend.
I say trend loosely because really just a new stereotype to add to the bunch😒
It would be one thing if it was a want for actual representation, but every time now like clockwork. as soon as they see a Black woman who looks like she’s going to have a romantic arc with said popular fandom man, boom she must be gay😑
Hell, it’s getting so bad that these shows/movies are automatically just writing their Black women characters in that way.
If people can’t see how this can be harmful/dangerous, that’s cool, but anytime you want to paint all of a group a certain way and won’t show them in any other setting, that’s how you end up birthing new stereotypes.
This isn’t creating diversity. It’s limiting it(once again).
It’s so all or nothing with our media representation. Black women don’t want to be shown as one thing(which seems to go right over most people’s heads).
We just want the same opportunities as everybody else and not to be put into one or two narrow boxes of acceptable characterization that doesn’t threaten the status quo(aka you can't have Black women looking desirable especially not when there is an available white woman right there next to her).
#bnask#bnasks#fandom misogynoir#misogynoir#I understand the need for representation but it can't just be all one thing#there is a really good thread I want to link on this#but I’d rather not have people flooding that website#lol this reminds me of the people obsessed with Laena velaryon and Rhaenyra Targaryen#Look at how they won't even draw laena with her husband 🙃#yes I’m aware she’s a race bent character but in the show her and Rhaenyra hardly interact#she isn’t her lover(and she’s probably not in the books either) yet y’all just love to draw that version of them together#and refuse to draw that version of her with daemon 🙃#let’s not get into how there were some trying to say nettles is a lesbian with no proof#or baela and putting her with nettles#again I understand representation but it’s all very suspicious considering this is the same fandom that likes calling black people dirty 🙃#the bear fandom is another one that likes to do this#sydney adamu#nettles#laena velaryon#shuri udaku#baela targaryen#tagging all the ones from recent years#y’all rarely do this with white women#she breaths next to a male character and it’s ‘I ship it’🙄

reddit:
literally every other WOT viewer in the world:
#they've been saying this ever since the finale aired and it drives me CRAZY#have your personal opinions all you want but to say that 2x08 was objectively a weak episode is simply not correct#cinematography acting vfx choreography music EVERYTHING was at the absolute top of its game#and despite being an Exciting Battle Episode it was completely anchored in character moments & emotional resonance which is no easy feat#so much going on yet there was time for every major character to get a huge developmental/emotional beat#(yes even those like nynaeve whose beat was a loss rather than a victory)#every season arc was either wrapped up in an immensely satisfying way or was set up for a deeper examination next season#and 90% of the general audience absolutely loved it#and yet reddit acts like it's an Accepted Fact that it was poor quality#just bc the book-to-show changes in that episode weren't to THEIR PERSONAL taste#touch grass#wot#seeing as season finales will always have the biggest moments it's kinda inevitable that hardcore book fans#will always be the most sensitive to any changes made in those particular episodes#not to mention that the changes made in eps 1-7 will snowball and culminate in the finale#so i feel like finales are always gonna be judged the most harshly by readers#like if dumai's wells isn't an exact 1:1 recreation of the book version#readers are 1000000% going to flip their shit no matter how objectively good the show's version actually is#wot book spoilers#for the replies

My wife and I just spent over three hours hatewatching a movie that is less than two hours long...we had to pause every two minutes at the start and multiple times later on because we kept losing our fucking minds over and over again
#it's based on a book that we both hate with passion#and the movie version only got like 1.5 stars so we had to see if it was even worse than the book#and the answer is yes it somehow was#while also managing to have better ending than the book#or should I say more conclusive open ending idk about better#anyway it was bad and we hated it :)#personal

do you ever think about the absolute culture shock of edwin "book nerd" payne missing the most of modernism and post-modernism. cause i do. i think about that a lot.
just. think about edwin encountering The Waste Land for the first time and finding it very moving and reflects his own experiences very well, but also finding that very weird because like??? yes, the nihilism is great and all, he's never felt more Seen in his life, but he's also been to hell and what do you mean an entire generation of writers apparently just get what that feels like????
#ara rambles#dead boy detectives#edwin payne#like. modernism was already a thing before edwin was born but the major influence of it was still world war 1#which edwin died right in the middle of#so the primary audience of modernism was also too busy dying in a trench while he was alive#edwin's primary education i imagine would still be primarily the classics and the romantics#and even if he did have relatives who would have read modernist or even its precursors#i don't think they would have handed a ten-year-old who was studying virgil like. fucking james joyce or god forbid ezra pound#and i think modernist writing in general tends to circulate best in university circles so i think edwin would have been too young for it#so like. it existed in his time. but i doubt he's that aware of it. but after he gets back tho. the influence of modernism is inescapable.#writing literally does not look the same anymore. like. it visually does not look the same from the books he read.#like. even just in his favorite genre.#he read penny dreadfuls he's definitely at least touched on the earliest versions of comics#guy picks up watchmen one day and goes what the actual fuck happened to comic books charles the fuck am i reading#he picks up a book with detective comics one day thinking he's in for a fun lighthearted read#and is met with like. dark knight returns or something#(yes i know they're dc characters but work with my vision here for a minute)

Which version of this do you prefer?
This polls is part two, and focuses on non-film adaptations. Part 1, which only featured films, was posted earlier (though the 60s Batman series was also included on that poll because of Batman 66). A third poll combining the favorite options from both may be posted at some point in the future
*obviously with comics there's lots and lots of different runs that can have wildly different qualities and everything which kind of complicates things, but as the source material it does need to be included on the poll- you can just think of this option as indicating a general preference for the comics stories instead of being attached to a specific Batman run in the comics
See tags of original post for further notes
#to keep things basically even I only included versions that feature a version of Batman or Bruce Wayne the character in a significant role#hence why Gotham was included and some other live action tv versions weren't#because most of the others feature other batfamily characters (alfred or batwoman or various people for gotham knights etc)#ditto for a series like harley quinn where batman is present but not a lead character#batman beyond and btas share a continuity- both being dcau- and therefore under my usual rules would be one single option#however I decided to separate them because theyre different enough in focus that I imagine people might have different feelings on them#however the new batman adventures is falling under the btas umbrella here#because tnba is a continuation of btas and is often all packaged under the name btas#and yes i am including hmb i have included full on parodies on these before so#batman#batman the animated series#btas#batman beyond#dcau#the batman 2004#batman the brave and the bold#batman arkham series#beware the batman#gotham#gotham 2014#telltale batman#telltale games#batman comics#the new batman adventures#holy musical batman#holy musical b@man#starkid#comics#comic books#superheroes

Plz plz plz let old Daniel become a vampire. I want his sardonic condescending ass to have to deal with this forever. It is not because I think it would make his life better. Probably it would make it -and him- worse.
#That said he might have what it takes in the long run#And/or becomes this universes Beckett#Iwtv#interview with the vampire#even more yes for later books where he’s just got the ‘not this bs. Are you kidding me? What the fuck is this shit” but apathy face#I’m also curious how unhinged he could get#Like. Tbh he be Armand are kinda foils in the show version for a reason and i am so intrigued

on the subject of the differences between fire and blood and house of the dragon. i do feel its actually very believable the men writing the histories in f&b wouldnt be able to see alicent with any complexity. that they would be happy to present her as just a bitch, and never actively dispute it in their writings despite the evidence of a gentler side to her... and its very fucking ironic that much of the fandoms reaction to hotd alicent mirrors that misogyny.
#hotd#alicent hightower#alicent apologist til death#yes even the book version#fire and blood#thank u#galesong#you reminded me i wanted to make a post about this

After Midnight. Marvel Superheroes: Official Game Adventure (Vol. 1/1990), pg. 29.
Designer: Anthony Herring; Editor: Mike Breault; Illustrator: John Statema
#Marvel#Marvel comics#Marvel 616#Marvel Superheroes: Official Game Adventure#After Midnight#Moon Knight#Marc Spector#Black Widow#Natasha Romanov#I definitely should make sure to double-check the list of Moon Knight appearances because it does on occasion get updated#and with gems like this!#If you ever wanted to check out a rp/choose-your-own-adventure book that features Moon Knight as a potential option#there’s apparently a whole series of them and pdf versions are available pretty easily online alshdkdj#this one even features The Shroud too!#anyway yes this is Marc and Natasha defusing a box of plastic explosives labeled «hammerhead doodles chocolates»#but for real though I’m digging the 90’s designs#the short-hair high-collar Black Widow look was such a time (imo)#plus after Secret Avengers and that one Age of Ultron timeline I do wish we could see more team-ups with these two

society if dc hired a writing team of colour who could acknowledge the racial coding of starfire & raven, explore vic's status as a Black man in modern america who's specific disability further means his body is going to be read a certain way by certain people no matter what he does, along with potentially finding a way to sort through the racisim + fetishization that went into prior depictions of dick's heritage:
#i say team as i think team books would probably benefit from more co-writers anyway. allows for more perspective. also pays more artists.#also i think a prior lack of racial sensitivity on the part of major corporations calls for paid opportunity to- for lack of better terms#because i'm stoned & can't find them- fix the fucking mess of it all#there's so much you could do irt to sociopolitical commentary if you just hired the right fucking people. i'm so over this jesus fuck.#dc#ntt#teen titans#the titans#like and even ignoring that there's so much you could do with the idea of friendships & teams as communities if the job was given to#someone who actually fucking CARED about any of those things.#anti tom taylor#legit if i see anyone on the dash praising it i will lose all respect for their opinions.#this man is worse than every insta poet put together and we could have had SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER.#cis white guys write the most absolute crap-paper worthy at best stories&comic companies are just like ''here go. fuck up even MORE stuff''#am angry#if you see the version of this post with a typo just say nothing. yes my brain was just going ''why why why why'' that hard.

My favorite part about being still into Naruto is the way I'm into it means I frequently have to tell algorithms that I don't actually want to consume Naruto like they want me to. Don't give me bland voice over theories from people who need to be reminded of minor characters. I need my clinically not-normal girls, gays, and theys to talk with about the little side guys they have entire lives mapped out for, the interpretations that include their favorite filler episode because they like it and above all else people who don't shit on the women characters or only consider them, annoying and useless or waifu material.
#you ever stop interacting with the mainstream version of a fan of something#and forget how condescending and stupid they are#one time i was reading kakashi retsudan at an airport and someone asked me if i knew who the guy on the cover was#when i said yes he was like but really or just from that book#like dude none of thr short stories make sense if you haven't seen naruto shut upppppl#he tried to slamder sakura to me and i would not have it#i had to block this one channel that would act like an expert but still has not put together that naruto calling tsunade granny is not#evidence that his theory of tsunade being minatos mom is true#like thats just a cultural way of addressing a woman her age she explicitly states she had no kids#and it wouldn't even change his one idea of kage nepotism because shes still a senju granddaughter#like the fact she doesnt have kids is why there are no senjus around#and why the heck would Minato not take her last name if she was his mom#it is killing me so i needed to vent here#he just says it like its fact casually after he dropped his theory video too#not to stereotype but ohhhhbmy god cishet anime boys are a f#different breed (derogatory)
