I fucked up big time, crochet style
So I’m making a lovey for my niece to give to her when she’s born. I chose a lovely soft brown yarn from my stash for this, and did not think I would need more than one skein (mistake 1), so I didn’t even think to check where I could buy it (mistake 2). I’m more than halfway through and about to run out. So I look it up, and lo and behold:
Turns out I’m using a discontinued Bernat line, and cannot find any being resold on Etsy or eBay.
So I guess my question is:
Does anyone know of a good match for Bernat Satin yarn? Specifically in the color sable?
Thanks, I will owe you my life

My current crochet project is a shawl made from mercerized cotton and I ran out of the yarn I was using halfway through.
The good news is I was expecting this outcome. The bad news is I was using a discontinued dye lot. The good news is I found a colour that was remarkably similar. The bad news is the original yarn was matte (and Portuguese); the new yarn is shiny (and Turkish?). The good news is the colours don't clash much. The bad news is the longer I use the new yarn the more noticable the colour difference is going to be. The good news is I got some more yarn from the original fabricator! The bad news is it's even lighter than the shiny yarn.
Conclusion; using three colours is better than two. At least it'll look like a gradient, right? 😬

I love to crochet so much but it causes me physical pain when I have to play yarn chicken. Like the fuck you mean you’re gonna run out BEFORE I’m done, I fucking own you, you’re down when I say you’re done

Confessions of a Hand Knitter: I Still Buy Store-Bought Sweaters
In which I confess...I still buy sweaters at stores. A bad thing? Maybe not.
“Did you make that?” Someone asked me recently, admiring a new cardigan with intricate cable work, made of tiny laceweight yarn. “Uh, no,” I replied sheepishly. My admirer gasped. “YOU bought a sweater at a STORE?!” Yes. I, an avid knitter and maker of pullover and cardigan sweaters, still buy sweaters at stores.  It all goes down to eyesight. I’ve worn glasses since I was seven years old,…

So, two thoughts.
First, for sizing and yardage, this should give you a very rough ballpark. (edited because Tumblr was being weird about displaying the link properly /shrug/)
If it's actually 'Fine' yarn (as in, using the Craft Yarn Council's definition of 'Fine') then it would be considered sport-weight yarn at the link above.
Second thought: Speaking as a designer, the yarn required for the pattern is very, very basic information. A pattern should always give a yarn weight, and then the amount of yarn, usually in yards or meters. Sometimes, especially with older patterns, you'll see grams and ounces, but that still tells you how much yarn you need.
If this pattern just straight up doesn't tell you how much yarn to use, that's a huge red flag when it comes to the quality of the pattern. It's a pretty egregious error and suggest to me that the pattern hasn't seen an editor. I'd definitely look through Ravelry comments and projects, to see what other people have to say.
Hello. I have a newbie knitter question to ask.
I was hoping if you know how many yarns a person might need to knit an oversized sweater?
The yarn is called a Fine Yarn (I think it means a thin yarn?)
The pattern I downloaded from Raverly didn't specify how much I might need.
Thank you 🫶🏻
I am not a sweater knitter... Throwing it out to my friends on here. How much you'll need really depends on your size, your desired sweater size, your gauge.... Maybe check the other projects on Rav and see if any of them look like your size and how much yarn they used?

The Evenstar is finally finished! This project has been a really fun time but I'm also SO glad it's over.
The knitted on edging took. Literally half a year. Not because it was difficult but simply because it was SO BORING. It looks so good and was so easy to block but I'm not sure I'll ever have the Willpower to knit this edging ever again.
My shawl also turned out significantly smaller than the pattern says. It's supposed to be 60 inches and mine is closer to 48 inches. This is probably because of the yarn I used? (Cobweb instead of lace weight) I also chose to knit under gauge because I didn't like the way the fabric looked at gauge. Thankfully it doesn't bother me.

So I have a nervous stim where I rub the palm of my hand and I’ve rubbed it completely raw. I’ve been really struggling to find a way to not do it so my hand can heal. I made this, super simple, single crochet in a round that fits around my hand, attach a chain around the thumb and then more single crochet. So far it’s worked pretty well. I can still rub it, and I don’t damage the skin more. So yeah this is a thing

Crafting is really just a series of going:
"No, you can't start a new project. You need to finish an old one first"
"But I **promise** that I'll finish this one!!"
"Okay, fine"
And then you add another unfinished project to the pile

Me: Ugh, fingering weight tops for my size take FOREVER to make, I'm just going to use up what I have and never make a fingering weight top ever again!
Also me: I want to be able to wear hand knit clothes every day in summer, and I only have five short sleeve fingering weight projects planned, which means I need to get yarn to make three more to have eight to cover laundry day every week. I Will Not Regret This.

Hey y'all! Do you have any patterns/resources/advice on sewing corsets/bodices/stays/stuff like that? I have once again reached the "wow I hate bras and bra shopping" point of the "having to replace clothes as they wear out" cycle

One of the great things about fiber arts (at least to me) is that... you outright own the things you make. It's hard for me to comprehend actually owning something, and that's that. The item you have created doesn't need to come with strings attached (pun intended).
In a world where you are constantly buying things but not owning any of it, truly, it's such an odd experience to actually have ownership of your labour, time, and love like that.

For @redfurrycat, who asked for Sterek, crochet and extreme softness!
Stiles blinks as he drops the basket of blankets he'd been carrying into the spare bedroom as he stares at the five new plastic tote bins sitting neatly stacked along the wall near the closet and sighs. Tilting his head back out enough, he calls quietly, "Derek?" It's no more than a few moments before he feels his husband standing behind him, shift on his feet as he clears his throat. "I know I said I wouldn't buy anymore until I went through a few tote bags but... well." Snorting, Stiles bends enough to grab the basket again and moves towards the closet to put the spare blankets back in it until the next time they get visitors. "And I see you took advantage of the emissary trip I had to take to help Erica and Body out with their pack." "I have plans for it," Derek defend himself, though it was more of a weak one, then anything else. "I'm sure, sweetheart," Stiles teases, turning to give Derek a fond look as he puts the blankets up.

I didn’t get as much done over the weekend as I’d hoped, and my second bobbin is a little heavier overall than the first one.
