A few months ago, I broke my favorite knitting needle (its wood) it was snapped like a toothpick. Someone told me I wouldn't be able to fix it, I was like "alr bet" I glued it with nail glue and wrapped some scotch tape around it. I left it to the side for a few months because I honestly forgot about it, but today I picked it up, unwrapped the tape, and filed that sh*t with a cheap nail file from dollar tree. Guess what, it's fixed, and aside from a lighter spot and a little line, you can barely tell it broke.
How I broke it
The needles fell off my desk while I was asleep, and I didn't realize they fell until I stepped on one

Had a great class with Bristol Ivy and Thea Colman at Magpie Fibers . Learned some new things and gained some confidence in things that I already do. Bristol was kind enough to sign her book. (And I did a bit of Christmas shopping for myself.)

Finally done with this year's christmas socks. Hopefully next year I remember to start earlier so that I don't have to wrap my wrists during the last pair. Now I only have to wrap them up and they're ready to be sent off.

Oh my goshhhh, why didn't I invested in these knitting needles sooner- the yarn literally glides right over the join on these Chiaogoo needles (versus them snagging on my Knitpicks ones) and the nylon on the wire has like a slight grip on the yarn so it's not sliding around like a set of loose brass rings on a steel pole, and best of all, the cable is not fighting back like I'm trying to restrain a baby crocodile. I can't wait to try lace knitting with the smaller gauge yarn

Me: Okay, this youtube video can't actually be someone telling fiber artists to "just" spin new yarn instead of throwing out yarn scraps.
30 seconds into the video: "You'll need hand carders and an electric spinning wheel."
Me: Bitch.

Oops I’ve been working away at my lil projects and I forgot to blog about it.
This is some mysterious rolags I got from @milkweedman spun in some kind of gradient and chainplyed. It’s a heavy lace weight about 880yds so I’m hoping to make a lace shawl out of it most likely mystic embers from Anna Dalvi.
I’m so enamored with the process I’m doing another gradient spin. (From roving tho so there’s a lot more color changes)

SKILL UNLOCKED, KNITTING ABILITY LEVELED UP
So I've been knitting a fair bit as of late, all sorts of shenanigans and funky little things and a thousand fancy plans. Only some stuff finished thus far, but a fair bit of learning new building blocks going on.
And in a fit of pique while trying to get some ridiculously tiny dense pointy picots out of a purlwise cable cast on base, being mad that my normal purling (wrapping the yarn counter-clockwise) made the yarn have to cross SO FAR to get back up to the needle, I just...crossed the yarn up clockwise instead, and it was so much better. Distracted from the picot situation by how well it worked, I wondered why it's not the norm, did a quick search, and...
Found I had accidentally stumbled upon combination knitting? Which (for flat stockinette and the like) involves purling clockwise, and then knitting through the back loop to untwist those stitches. And it has FIXED my purl tension! The left side of my flat stockinette no longer gains a giant, sad loop! (Hell, I think that selvedge might even be neater than the right side now.) And I still don't necessarily like knitting ribbing, or how it looks vs. other, funkier options. But a quick test of normal vs. combination ribs side-by-side? Hot damn, that combo rib looks GOOD.
...Now, to get back to seeing if I can wrangle those picots to do what I want, without resorting to smaller needles...

Quick knitting update.
My legwarmers are coming along nicely, and they look great with my boots, either tucked in or over top. I tried cabling without the cable needle again, tweeked how I pinched the loop, and I think I'm sold on this trick now. It would probably still be easier on yarn not held double, but I can still make it work.
Since I still have to make another one and I was weighting my yarn a various points along this first one. And I feel pretty confident I should have just the right amount of yarn to make them the length I was hoping for. I changed the origin pattern enough that it was hard to estimate.
I'm probably going to be focusing on these for a while since I would like to wear them this winter. I'm going to be working overtime over the holidays so I don't know how much knitting I'll get done.
