Hi, this is the same person who sent an ask requesting fics where some misunderstanding happens and people and up thinking Lwj raped Wwx or thinking Wwx raped Lwj. I forgot to add on the ask that I don't want the ones where the misunderstanding happens because Lwj was drunk and Wwx wasn't, Lwj freaks out when he wakes up thinking he took advantage of Wwx while drunk, Wwx (who didn't know Lwj was drunk) freaks out thinking Lwj regrets what happened and there goes people thinking Wwx is freaking out because Lwj abused him. Those fics are full of victim blaming towards Lwj (who was the one drunk while they had sex) both on the fic and on the comments and of everyone ignoring Lwj's pain of losing his first time while drunk and painting him as an asshole towards Wwx for freaking out when he woke up, so I don't vibe with that kind of victim blaming at all. If the fic doesn't have shit like that, then it's all good. Thanks.

Who is going around saying JC would have raised A-Yuan better?!

Can they not read? Have they hit their head and are concussed? Do they need medical assistance?!

There is so much wrong with this whole scenario I don't even know where to begin!

Let's start with the fact that JC is the reason A-Yuan has no living relatives left…

That JC actually brought a horde of blood thirsty people to where the child was living, totally unperturbed by the fact an innocent toddler would most certainly die. People think A-Yuan should live with the guy that did that?

JC hates all the Wens, even those who were innocent and not only helped save him, but secured his parents' remains for him! He abuses his own nephew, slapping him around and making him feel unworthy. If he does that to his own flesh and blood, what type of life would A-Yuan have had if in some skewed, illogical alternative universe where JC actually had a heart and not only actively spared the toddler but raised him himself?!

What an awful upbringing the poor child would have had. He's already lost everyone, why are some intent on making him suffer any more?!

LWJ did an absolutely incredible job raising A-Yuan. WWX is not only instantly drawn towards the boy but he has nothing but praise for whoever raised him! As opposed to his impression of JL, where he ponders why the boy has turned out so arrogant, ill-tempered and brimming with hostility - much like his uncle and father.

Just look at the evidence!

LSZ is a well adjusted, kind, caring, smart young man who gets on with others and has great cultivation and leadership skills. Whereas JL, harbours so much unnecessary pain and resentment in his heart thanks to JC outright lying about the circumstances around his mother's death, encouraging him to embrace the hatred within him instead. JL puts himself in danger and does not care about dying as long as he's able to prove his worth and abilities to JC. Not to mention how lonely the poor kid is. It's heartbreaking to see what has become of JYLs baby - and this is with the boy only living with his uncle half of the time!!

Thankfully WWX is trying his best to rectify these issues and JL is showing promise due to the influence of WWX, LWJ and the other juniors.

I honestly don't know how LSZ could be any better than he already is in canon. Whoever stated this is utterly delusional and doesn't understand the plot or characters at all.

Today, Lan Wangji has woken up in a mood. What mood?

Guess. It starts with an "h".

Now you might be wondering - isn't he always like that? And the answer is yes, he is, but today it's even more so than usual, and that's saying something.

There isn't even a particular reason. He just woke up at 5 on the dot, like he always does, turned to look at his sleeping husband Wei Ying and had the same realization he has every morning - Wei Ying is alive, in his bed, naked, beautiful and married to him. For some reason, that realization hit so much harder today.

Wei Ying has always been beautiful, even if only just by virtue of being Wei Ying - but his features have always been objectively beautiful even without the added layer of Lan Wangji's adoration.

And now that Mo Xuanyu's body has become more Wei Ying's than ever before, his appearance shifting closer to that of the soul inhabiting it, Lan Wangji can't help but be attracted to him. That's a given, of course, since they're married and also very sexually active - but to be absolutely blunt, Wei Ying has been getting hotter by the day and Lan Wangji feels himself flashback to his teenage years when his beloved's beauty haunted his dreams and his fantasies every night.

Lan Wangji likes to take the time and appreciate what he has every now and then - and today he wants to do so thoroughly. And if he's a little late to his duties today, let the elders dare say something about it.

Wei Ying sighs, wistfully, in his sleep, his lips slightly parted to let the breath out. They're pink and plush and Lan Wangji knows from first hand experience how soft, inviting and insatiable they can be. And how very teasing and skilled.

Wei Ying's nose scrunches slightly at whatever he is dreaming, and Lan Wangji almost moves to kiss the very tip of it. But he knows Wei Ying doesn't like to be woken up so early, even with affection, so he tallies the kiss for later and continues his bout of admiration.

Wei Ying's long lashes nearly brush the tips of his soft cheeks, pulled over his stormy eyes in a serene expression. He looks angelic like this, nestled in white sheets like he is sleeping on the softest cloud in the sky.

His hair falls around him like a veil, the long strands hiding the naked skin of his back where Lan Wangji has bitten his love into so many times last night. The training he has been doing has already started to pay off, muscle rippling underneath the skin as Wei Ying turns on his other side, the blanket riding down to expose even more skin.

Lan Wangji's eyes inevitably draw along his spine, where his body narrows into his thin waist that still carries the finger-shapes bruises of Lan Wangji's hold, a dip like a valley between his torso and his hips.

The blanket covers everything that comes next, but Lan Wangji knows it all too well. The soft plush of Wei Ying's thighs, littered with hickies and bitemarks, the round meat of his ass that Lan Wangji just so loves squeezing and turning red and-

There is an insistent knock on the door of the jingshi and Lan Wangji curses in his mind at that. He did not want his fantasies to be interrupted just yet.

A disciple he doesn't recognize bows deeply. "Apologies, Hanguang-Jun, your uncle wishes to speak with you right now. I was sent to remind you, as you are late."

Lan Wangji sends the disciple on his way and grumbles to himself about the rude awakening from his soft, horny world, and finally proceeds with his morning routine.

Well, he'll get plenty of time to admire Wei Ying later.

Lan Wangji is going to die.

Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, he's not in any mortal danger, he's just doing sword practice runs with the juniors right next to where Wei Ying is doing his core strengthening training.

Shirtless.

Why is he shirtless? Who knows, maybe there is some kind of cultivation-related reason, maybe he's just hot.

(He is.)

Either way, Lan Wangji is trying so hard not to embarrass himself in front of his class right now. He's trying to focus on their swordplay and give genuine advice on how to improve - but his eyes linger a bit too much on the way Wei Ying moves swiftly as he wields Suibian, his skin glistening with sweat in the sunlight. And so very full of hickies.

He's focused on his work, eyebrows furrowed, and his ponytail swirls in the wind like a whip - and Lan Wangji is so in love right now, and so distracted. He has never wished to be Suibian more than right now, to be so tightly held onto and moved around with such precision...

And then. And then! Wen Ning shows up. Why is he there? When did he return?

(Sizhui must be back too, what a relief, they've been gone for a long time!)

But Wen Ning and Wei Ying begin sparring after a short conversation and Lan Wangji doesn't know if the display makes him more jealous or aroused. His husband moves so nimbly, so confidently, and he's so powerful even if he has yet to reach the prime of his first life - Lan Wangji doesn't want to be Suibian anymore, he wants to be Wen Ning and get to fight Wei Ying, strategically let him close in the distance between them and pretend to lose his footing and ask to surrender... beg for mercy even...

One of the Lan juniors turns towards Jingyi, who pointedly refuses to look at either of their seniors, a pink blush on his cheeks.

"Should we tell Hanguang-Jun class is over?"

"You tell him."

"Why don't you tell him? What's wrong with him?"

"You don't wanna know."

When Lan Wangji doesn't find Wei Ying in the jingshi at the end of the day, his first thought is panic.

His second, the cold springs.

He does remember Wei Ying telling him he will be doing some intensive training today and will need to heal and balance his body after - and what better place to do that than the cold springs.

So, Lan Wangji goes to find him.

And find him he does.

He's submerge underneath the little waterfall that supplies the cold springs, hair curtaining his body as he meditates, water running down the contours of his body like silver rivulets.

Lan Wangji decides he's going to be a voyeur for a little longer, he's going to award himself the pleasure of watching the water drip down Wei Ying's body, shining onto his skin, and he's going to allow himself to fantasize about his hands trailing down the same pathway.

He's going to imagine himself joining his husband in the water, and pressing himself close to Wei Ying under a pathetic guise of seeking warmth... and he's going to find that warmth all over and inside Wei Ying for hours, with only the water as their witnes...

"Hanguang-Jun." Wei Ying's teasing voice comes and Lan Wangji nearly jumps out of skin at the sound. "It is improper to stare when somebody is bathing." And his eyes open, a mischevous glint in the grey pupils. "You either leave, or join in."

Wei Ying swims to the edge of the spring that's closest to Lan Wangji. "And by the looks of it, you've been wanting to join me for a while."

Lan Wangji's ears burn, caught red-handed, but he doesn't deny, proceeding to discard of his many layers of robes.

"I was wondering when you'd break." Wei Ying smiles, dark and seductive and Lan Wangji wonders if he'd regret not undressing properly if he jumped Wei Ying in the water right now. "I know you've been... admiring me all day, undressing me with your eyes... I'm going to catch a cold if you do that so often, you know? Exposure is no joke."

Lan Wangji reaches to undo his forehead ribbon.

"Leave that on." Wei Ying nearly purrs as he puts some more distance between them, taking his place beneath the waterfall. "You'll need something to catch this siren with, won't you?"

Okay, so I was feeling nostalgic and started editing the dragon sacrifice fic to Thirsty Merc's In the Summertime (youtube link), because I'm delusional and sometimes like to pretend I enjoy heatstroke season. Anyway, it's honestly a very WWX song imo.

Imagine; Rocker!YLLZ crooning out the lyrics while Omegaji swoons in the front row. This is his first time going to a concert - he's just moved to Yiling to study at the local university, which means he no longer has Uncle forbidding him to be seen about without a beta chaperone - Ge says what LQR doesn't know, can't hurt him.

Truthfully, Omegaji didn't know what kind of band he was going to see today, but the other omegas in his dorm seemed particularly enthused about YLLZ and the Fierce Corpses playing locally, and so he grew curious enough to book a ticket. LWJ hasn't really had friends before, but he's making an effort. Maybe if he and his dorm mates have something in common to talk about, he'll be able to forge a deeper bond with them? It was a good idea, born of innocence.

Unfortunately, at this moment, he understands the other omegas all too well. Standing right before the concert stage, leaking a puddle of slick into his new jeans, LWJ has been entranced. And now he knows - YLLZ is dangerous.

LWJ has always been an insensitive omega, never before feeling compelled to submit to an alpha's will. But YLLZ is different - clearly cut from a different cloth, with how easily his scent makes LWJ ache for him without even trying.

LWJ feels a spread of heat rise up through his chest with each sound out the alpha's mouth. He feels winded just looking on from the crowd; if he were to inch any closer, he feels he'd be completely in the man's thrall - at his mercy.

Halfway through a particularly passionate verse, YLLZ locks eyes with LWJ. The alpha has just slid down onto his knees to play into the audience, and LWJ is now mere feet before him. Still singing, YLLZ licks a bead of sweat from his lip as he strums the bass, eyes never leaving LWJ's.

LWJ begins to feel faint. YLLZ's coal black eyes trail down his face to his bare, unmarked neck, completely blown with the force of some dark, unnamed emotion. Unknowingly, the alpha begins to project his scent out into the crowd - a tantalising mix of sun-blessed waters, and spice.

LWJ's knees buckle out from under him. He expects to fall limp to the ground, every inch the weak omega he's been warned never to become. But suddenly, YLLZ is there, lifting him up; cradling him in his arms.

When LWJ whines, the alpha pulls him closer, holding him safe to his chest.

"Let's get you somewhere quiet," he says, voice hushed and lyrical against LWJ's ear. "You're going into heat."

LWJ belatedly realises this is true. Shortly after, he recognises that YLLZ's rut has also begun. The tabloid articles that come later proclaim them to be true mates; LWJ can't find it in himself to disagree.

Anyway, they 🌸mate🌸, then WWX writes this song for his bf while they're apart. He has the band's schedule carefully arranged to always free up around LWJ's heat. For reasons. 😏

#it's harder and harder to like wwx as a blorbo when this is what i keep seeing

yeah, I don't hate wwx but his fans are reading an entire different story. Why should jc/jgy/xy's fans add the "i know my fave is problematic and a bitch but i like him despite him being an awful character" every time they post but wwx/lz/wangxian's fans get to stand on the moral higher ground? every time I see a discourse it's always "wangxian are perfect they're victims" and the others can eat shit? especially when it's used then to say "the very real people who are just enjoying a fictional piece of media can eat shit too"?

mdzs is a story about a very flawed if well-intentioned protagonist and the very one-purpose-driven love interest that has little to no development except for his love for the protagonist. As readers we can have empathy for the corner wwx backed himself into and the series of unfortunate event that drove him to those actions, but if we wish to engage in meta discussions we can't have blinkers on. That's as simple as that. And the more i interact with wgxn fans the more i come to dislike the characters. It's no secret i have beef with how the story is written and that the fact it's a series of snippets, quick paced scenes, no time to delve into the context and see the bigger picture because the main drive is to arrive to the happy ending and subsequent porn scene does not allow for obvious layered-reading. The supposedly internal pov is not consistent and scenes suddenly go from wwx's pov to glances as other characters'. BUT what it means is that we *know* that jc (while obviously disliking the wen, they killed his entire family, shouldn't he??) never advocated for the annihilation of the surviving wen himself. He advocated for the survival of his own sect. he advocated for prioritizing the well-being of his charges over the well-being of the people that reduced his blood-family to one and a half. Is it morally wrong? maybe, certainly not a 100% virtuous. But it's justifiable. The characters are flawed. Is wwx's violent torture of wc virtuous? is the way he killed wlj, akin to sexual assault, virtuous and morally right? absolutely not. Is it justifiable? maybe. He also lost almost everyone he cared about in the wen attack.

But jc doesn't get the same grace. He doesn't get forgiveness or compassion from some fans. wwx is directly responsible for jyl's death because he went to the meeting, taunted the cultivation world that he had threatened for weeks and he knew they would retaliate. He was pretentious and insane, corrupted by the cultivation he assured he could control and manage. He believed he could achieve anything (and who could blame him? His main authority figure in his formative years never discouraged that) but he could not. His hubris caused his downfall and yet all the blame falls on jc. Jc wasn't loyal enough (wwx was the one who should have been loyal, he was jc's subordinate and PROMISED HIM he would be loyal to jc and he broke this promise). jc didn't love him enough (he tried several times to defend him against men ten times more powerful than him both politically and in numbers, and he tried to bring wwx back to reason, something impossible to do since he did not have all the relevant information to understand BECAUSE WWX ACTIVELY LIED TO HIM FOR MONTHS). Jc slandered wwx in front of jl despite wwx being a perfect innocent angel (wwx killed jl's father and had his mother killed because he lost control. He. Lost. Control. It's canon. For people who spit on the drama adaptation, it's the only one that absolved wwx from these actions by putting another player in the shadows). Jc tortured demonic cultivators because he's cruel and mad and hates wwx (the rumours concerning wwx, never proven, should be dismissed, but not those concerning jc? double standard much? We have third-hand accounts for that hearsay and when jc has the chance to torture wwx he just screams at him, not very blood-thirsty madman of him).

The moral, virtues, obligations and expectations from such a piece of media have been explained ad nauseum by people that actually have the necessary cultural background to know what they're talking about. as a westerner, i read it, i listened and i learned. And what i understood is that by leaving the jiang clan, by choosing the wen over those he had a moral duty to, he is CULTURALLY in the wrong. Of course saving innocent people is not morally wrong. But again, are *all* the wen in that camp innocent? debatable. maybe yes, maybe no. What does it mean to be innocent? Simply standing by, not directly murdering someone? Wen Qing is the character that raises this very question IN THE TEXT by repeating like a broken record that doctors don't kill. But did she save? Was there active resistance from some Wen to save the innocent people their sect targeted? Or is it just that they did not directly kill? Why? did they have no choice? Was there threats and repression? Or did they simply follow their sect leader? Have they changed their stance on the war once they realised they were losing? Putting them in labour camps, using them as fodder and guinea pigs for the jin to experiment demonic cultivation on is wrong. It's terrible. But my point is that if people want to debate and expand and argue about interpretation and canon events they can't go surface level and just scream that they don't agree because reasons and main character brainrot.

Jiang Cheng is not wrong to want to preserve what he has left. He's not wrong to prioritize the people he enlisted to fight a war for him over people that have started that very war. He is not wrong to hate (although that hate is also love and hurt and repressing unwanted feelings, and rejection and incomprehension, and confusion, yadda yadda) the man that betrayed him, lied to him, rejected him and then killed the last of his living relatives in a fit of madness. Jc had his sister. That's it. His only surviving blood relative and the one that stood by his side always. The last person who did not reject him and betray him. As readers we *know* wwx sacrificed a great deal for jc, but why did he do it? love? duty? this unshakeable belief he can fix anything? but jc did not know. We can't expect a character to act like they have all the information when it's the reader's privilege to have that. And again, readers also have blind spots. did you know that while wwx sacrificed so much for jc, jc did the same? First? that he threw his life away without even the possibility of hiding behind excuses such as duty? promises made to parents/guardians? when reading that, how can we still think jc is a heartless bastard that never loved wwx? that he's morally broken? why should we focused on how jc is ungrateful to wwx for a sacrifice he didn't know was made when wwx's resentment toward jc comes from the same place of ignorance? An ignorance that persists by the end of the story?

anyways it's getting a bit too long, i got carried away again.

tldnr : wwx's fans are making the character unpalatable by engaging in discourse they cannot conduct properly and emptying the text of comprehensive, deep and active reading and by simply being defensive and claiming a non-existing moral high ground and purity. their attack of other fans creates a toxic environment that affects the reading comprehension of the text and makes being in a fandom about a fictional world a deeply unpleasant experience

I love JC a lot I really do.

But I think the main reason he gets criticism for the wen situation with the Jin's and not others like NMJ and LXC for not supporting that idea because it's not about the morality.

It's about Wei Wuxian. It's about the family supports family or the loyalty to each other if you would.

Like sure he was a young sect leader with a lot of new responsibilities in the middle of the rest more mature with a good backing but there was also Jiang Yanli who would have and even did Stand by Wei Wuxian even in her last moments, even though she was married into the Jin's, even though WWX has supposedly just killed her husband and the father of her child.

But he failed where he failed okay.

He managed to protect something (the sect) but it cost him the last bit of his family.

He could have done something right, at least told Jin Ling the truth about his mother who died protecting her little brother instead of being his victim.

He had his reasons for what he did but it still doesn't make those actions any more likable.

untitled sequel to A Window of Silk and Paper (WIP)

Leaves rustled in the warm breeze. Water trickled in the distance, bubbling over rocks on its way down from the mountain heights. Cicadas trilled in the trees all around them. To all of this music, Chenqing added its own voice, lending accompaniment to the forest's endless symphony.

Lan Wangji rarely felt the need to speak as they journeyed. Many li passed beneath Apple's hooves without him uttering a sound. Sometimes Wei Wuxian was content in the silence, and shared his appreciation of the beauty they passed without having to speak. Sometimes his thoughts poured their way out of him through the bamboo flute, Chenqing. And then there were times when Wei Wuxian seemed like he could not bear even one more moment without some form of conversation. Given his two options of who to speak to, he directed most of his comments to the companion most likely to respond.

“How hot it is, Lil' Apple! It was foolish of you  to wear a fur coat on such a long summer journey.”

The donkey brayed in annoyance as Wei Wuxian tousled its fur, shaking its head to slap his hand away with the flapping of its ears.

“Yes, well, you'll think better of it next time, won't you. … Look, Lil' Apple. Look at how Lan Zhan's hair shines in the sunlight through the trees. It's beautiful, don't you think?”

Lil' Apple only flicked its ears again and licked its lips in answer, but Wei Wuxian was pleased to see the white robed cultivator before him turn his head ever so slightly.

“Someone should write a poem about that long, dark cascade of hair. Or a song. Hmm. Maybe...”

Once again he lifted Chenqing to his lips, and strains of flute music twined around them. Lan Wangji straightened, directing his gaze back to the path. But anyone who might have glimpsed his face would see that all his attention was on the music. He listened without comment to the new composition, and folded every note carefully into his memory.

Wei Wuxian's endless battle with boredom had produced fourteen such improvised melodies so far over the course of their journey, their subjects ranging from Lan Wanji's light-colored eyes to his Lan clan headband to the long, calloused fingers that held Little Apple's lead rope. It wasn't certain whether the composer would remember any well enough for a second performance, or whether these ballads served only to pass the time and were then forgotten. Lan Wangji, though, committed each one indelibly to memory, and planned to write down the scores and bind them into a book as soon as he came within reach of some paper.

At night, when they pitched camp on the bank of a river, or in a forest dell, or sheltered from the rain in the shadows of a cave, Lan Wangji would pull his guqin from its wrappings. Wei Wuxian would lay back, head pillowed on his hands, firelight dancing over his profile as he chewed on a blade of grass. And Lan Wangji would play. The deep, twanging notes of the guqin would mingle with the crickets, or frogs, or the patter of rain. They sang into the night about slender wrists, and smiling eyes, and a heart that would plunge itself into fire with the strength of its devotion. Wei Wuxian would stare up into the glimmering night sky and listen, hoarding the melodies like treasures in his heart. And when each song ended, and Lan Wangji hushed the guqin strings with the flat of his hand, Wei Wuxian would offer extravagantly worded praises for his skilled playing.

Sometimes the hour for sleep would find them curled together in peaceful stillness. And sometimes the hour passed right by, ignored as their bodies entwined in the embers' light, Wei Wuxian's praises ringing out with a different timbre.

So their summer journey to the North country went, and the days passed by uncounted. If Wei Wuxian had not given away his golden core – and so lost his spiritual power – they would have simply mounted their swords and flown. The journey would have taken less than a day. As things were, they were forced to spend more than a week on the road, covering many li at a walking pace. Just the two of them together, and their occasionally temperamental beast of burden, with nothing to focus on except the scenery and each other. So blissful were those carefree hours of travel that Lan Wangji found himself feeling grateful for having to go on foot. The realization shocked and appalled him. His ears burned with shame at the thought of celebrating Wei Wuxian's loss of spiritual power, even in so small a way.

“If you do not wish it to happen,” Lan Wangji answered, “then you should not speak of it.”

Wei Wuxian hummed thoughtfully, laughter in his voice. “Is this what they mean when they say 'tempting providence'?”

“Mnn.”

“You are so gentle with rabbits, Lan Zhan. Who knew you would be so cruel to other animals!”

Lan Wangji eyed Wei Wuxian sidelong but did not reply.

“Ah, but I should not be surprised if Hanguang-Jun is so merciless. He has never changed from that junior who was in charge of punishing his fellow students. How often have I myself felt the sting of his disciplinary hand, and been forced to endure the unyeilding - ”

“Wei Ying.”

“Am I saying too much? Perhaps you should silence me. That patch of clover over there would be a good spot for me to learn my lesson, wouldn't it? ”

Lan Wangji's breath left him in a loud exhale, and he eyed the clover patch with half a mind to comply. But after a few steps further, he caught sight of a crossroads ahead. He slowed Apple with gentle pressure on the lead as they approached the forked path, purposefully ignoring Wei Wuxian in favor of checking their map.

“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian complained, “why do you always pass up the soft clover and wait until there is nothing but hard stone. My knees are still bruised.”

“Punishment,” Lan Wangji remarked, replacing the map in the saddlebag. He took up the lead once more and coaxed Apple towards the left fork. Wei Wuxian crossed his arms across his chest, lifting one hand to rub at the tip of his nose.

“So cold hearted,” he scoffed. “Lil' Apple, take my advice. When you find your soulmate, be sure that he is not so mean. Find yourself a partner who will stop at a bed of clover. … Wait … Lan Zhan, didn't we turn the wrong way?” Wei Wuxian blinked and twisted around to reach for the saddle bag so he could check the map himself. “It's the other way to Qinghe, isn't it?”

“Are you in a hurry?”

Wei Wuxian lifted his eyes from the map, and peered at the back of Lan Wangji's head curiously. “ … No,” he said honestly. “I'm not. But Nie Huaisang is expecting us. And where would we go if we are not going to Qinghe?”

“Detour,” Lan Wangji replied.

“Oh … To where?”

“You'll see.”

“ … Oh. Alright.”

Perched sidesaddle on Apple's back, he let Lan Wangji lead them on. His eyes no longer focused on the scenery, but turned down to glance over the map instead. He studied the northern territory to try and glean insight on where their destination might be. Suddenly he swayed, having to shift to keep his balance in the saddle as Apple veered unexpectedly off the path and into the weeds. 

“… Hey, why are we stopping now?”

Lan Wangji dropped Apple's lead and pointed to a shaded glen half hidden from the path.

“That bed of ferns looks softer than the clover,” he said in a low voice.

Summary: So there was this jar, and it had so much peanut butter still in it, and when his fox nose scented it and didn’t catch any poison or spoilage, what was he supposed to do? Not avail himself of this gift? No. He shoved his delicate little snout right in there and got to licking, but, you know… Elegantly. Definitely not snarfing and making horrible little fox sounds and rolling around on the ground while he went ham on the jar. Sure, he had to work a little bit to get at the last of it, but anything good is worth working for, right? So finally, triumphant, no longer starving, and maybe a little thirsty now from eating half a cup of peanut butter in about two minutes, he’d tried to remove his head from the jar.

Operative word tried.

Or: Wei Ying gets stuck. Lan Zhan helps.

My comments: Well, now, this was a hoot and a ride, due to being inside wwx's head for the whole story (along with his colony of over-caffeinated squirrels and the eighteen trains of thought he has going in and out of his brain depot). He's a feral cuddle-monster as a fox and an insecure and anxious human if he thinks too much, and there's zero filter at all, so he often uses mouth words when no mouth words should have been used, and it's hilarious.

Luckily, Lan Zhan is really *really* into that.

Excerpt 1: He thinks, briefly, about shifting into his human form. Would he just sort of… explode out of the jar? Or would he end up with his human-sized head stuck inside this fox-sized peanut butter jar? That is genuinely the most horrifying thought he’s ever had in his life. No fucking way. Shifting is right out! Not today Satan, not today!

Excerpt 2: He reaches one gloved hand in and murmurs, “Don’t worry, Xiao-gua, I’ll take you somewhere safe.”

Wei Ying dies a little inside and doesn’t think he can be blamed for it. Anyone would feel the same way after hearing that voice coming out of that face calling an angry possum “Little Melon” in Chinese. The possum apparently agrees, because it stops hissing and goes docile, settling into a corner of the box and blinking up at Hot Animal Hero with sleepy eyes. “Good job,” Hot Animal Hero tells the possum. “You’re doing very well.”

Wei Ying is going to fucking marry this man. Tall, hot, smells good, good with animals? He’s gone. He’s done. The crush he develops is instant and all-consuming.

JC literally refused to help even though he owed the Wen siblings. I was on MDZS subReddit.

(yes, my fault I know)

Someone had posted the question that Jin Guangyao had played the Song of Tormoil on Qiongqi Road 2.0 and that made Wen Ning "Beserk" and that's what led to the death of Jin Zixuan. That wasn't in the books and wondered why it was left out.

A few ppl alerted them to the fact that the Untamed had made up a plot out of whole cloth and to not watch/take take it as canon.

But then a few other ppl felt the need to comment saying it was Wei Wuxian's arrogance that led to his downfall. And that he had "lessons" he had to learn in his second life.

Admittedly it's been a hot minute since I read the book, but I do recall Wei Wuxian as being distinctly not arrogant, and that he was proved right at the end of the novel. So I'm wondering where this idea that Wei Wuxian was arrogant came from and why it's so pervasive among the fandom when so many people read the books?

(I'm not fighting with people one reddit. Let my comments get down voted into oblivion. Internet votes are more useless that wet toilet paper)

LWJ: They are very accomplished and orderly; But ask them about that and they'll say that they hate how boring they are; They can recite all of their unrequited loves in detailed, dramatic stories; They have at least 1, if not multiple crushes where they hate the fact that they love them; once they hyperfixate on one thing, they'll never be able to tell you anything about anything else; Shy n sweet, we protecc

SL: "Why do all these people lack common sense?"; Had 1 (one)(uno) crush and then never liked anyone ever again; Everyone calls their lifestyle dull, but they just say that they value consistency; You have to plan a meet-up with them 2 weeks in advance or else they will PANIK; Their form of love is helping you manage your finances; Are actually quite mature and wise once you get them talking

XXC: YOU ARE SO PURE, WHY ARE YOU ON THE INTERNET; Weirdly aged and ageless in personality; Also the mom friend, but they aren't burnt out, unlike JYL kinnies; Wear super cute, oversized sweaters, I don't make the rules; sweater paws HNNG; Sometimes a bit out of the loop, but they're doing their best; Jump around in a conversation; Found family is their absolute jam; An extreme empath, so they have to protect themselves from too much depressing stuff, like the news

in a ceteris paribus situation aka all other things staying equal: 

1) Lan Wangji 100% still has a resting bitch face, which probably would get her a couple of “Lan-er-guniang 美若天仙 (beautiful as an immortal/goddess) but would benefit from smiling more” comments but nobody is that desperate to die yet so, she’s spared. But damn... imagine the sheer number of thirsty boys who’d try to secure a marriage with LWJ. None of them is good enough for Wangji as far as Lan Xichen is concerned. Okay - maybe in Lan Xichen’s opinion, Nie Mingjue is good enough, but he couldn’t be less interested. I see her as I see Huaisang, Xichen please. 

2) Everything interaction between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian in Wei Wuxian’s first life is now 500% more scandalous. 

Exhibit A) Their first meeting at the gates; Jiang Cheng immediately felt his spidey senses tingling.  —“You’d sooner have immortals flying out of your ass than get with someone like her. The second jade of Gusu? The pearl in old man Lan’s eyes? C’mon.”  —“Shut up, A-Cheng.” —“Uh-huh.”  —“Also, she’s not that pretty. Her brother Zewu-jun is much better. There’s a reason he’s ranked first.” WWX is still a disaster bi.  — “LMAO, you? Zewu-jun? Please.” 

Exhibit B) Just because LWJ is a girl does not mean WWX grew more brain cells. 

WWX, straight up to Lan Qiren’s face, “Lan-meimei and I - we’re zhiji.” (he means it like we’re kindred spirits, peas of a pod, etc)  LWJ: *does not deny* Lan Xichen: ⚆_⚆ Lan Qiren: ಠ╭╮ಠ

Exhibit C) Lan Wangji getting drunk the first time. Wei Wuxian knew he crossed a line the minute he invited Lan-er-guniang for a drink. Really, WWX, even for you, this is inappropriate. When Lan Wangji fell face first onto the table, Wei Wuxian knew, he fucked up. “Hey....hey...Lan....Lan...-er-guniang,” He poked her. “Don’t...don’t sleep here! You can’t sleep here! If your Uncle finds out or if Jiang-shushu finds out...they’ll skin me alive and then...and then they’ll make me marry you! I don’t want to marry you; you don’t talk and I’m too young!” 

WWX, being a dipshit, “Hey Lan Zhan, call me Wei-gege.”  LWJ, drunk as fuck, “Wei..gege.”  WWX *((( heart )))* ??? 

Exhibit D) The Cold Pond. Okay, so I don’t think Zewu-jun would sabotage his sister’s virtue by sending a stupid teenage boy her way while she’s bathing, but doesn’t mean Su She is above all that. Wei “I didn’t see anything I swear!” Wuxian. Lan “I will gouge out your eyes.” Wangji. Somehow they still end up in the cave. Maybe WWX got in the water after LWJ got out and got sucked into the vortex and LWJ heard the commotion, turned around, saw WWX had disappeared. “Wei Ying?!” A panicked LWJ jumps back into the pond, “Stop fooling around, come out!” 

Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing 👀👀 when LWJ and WWX fall out of the cave together. Also the fact that Lan-er-guniang and Wei-gongzi went missing, together, for two days. Who knows what could’ve happened. I mean anything really. I mean... that’s gotta stir the pot a little were it not for the Yin Iron stealing everyone’s attention away from this bit of juicy scandal. 

Oh the whole story... so much to work with, so little time. 

3) Because Lan Wangji is a girl, now suddenly there’s a high ranking member of the Lan Clan who can host the girls at Cloud Recesses. I mean, Mianmian, Jiang Yanli, Wen Qing, Lan Wangji - SISTERLY FRIENDSHIP. Other than Mianmian, none of the girls are really talkers which suits Lan Wangji perfectly. Even Mianmian’s chatter is endearing.

4) Lan Wangji is absolutely still a powerhouse during the Sunshot Campaign. The inherent aesthetics of fem!lwj telling the Wen goons to “kneel” - no one will deprive me of this.  Also she will still cut off your arm if you cross her - Xue Yang and Jin Guangyao ya better watch out still. 

I am TORN between two options: Lan Wangji tol and kickass or Lan Wangji smol and kickass. On one hand, the aesthetics of willowy elf-like LWJ, on the other hand, 5′2′’ of whoop ass who can and will throw an unconscious wwx over her shoulder firewoman-style and toll him to safety.  

And amongst other things: 

A) Lan Wangji still becomes Chief Cultivator, because excuse me who else is left to clean up this mess? Jiang “Short-fuse” Wanyin? Nie “I won’t do what I’m not intended to do” Huaisang? Jin “13 year-old” Ling? Or Sect Leader Yao?  Technically, being a woman means that she was never Lan Xichen’s heir, but at the end of it, it’s not like Gusu Lan is left with a lot of choices.  Just the poetic justice of Gusu Lan pleading for Lan Wangji to come back when she fully intends to 隐居山野 (retreat into the mountains) with the resurrected WWX.

Lan Wangji being Chief Cultivator would echo Lan Yi’s tenure and rectify the fact that Gusu Lan’s only female head of family “failed”. Lan Yi had to face a mountain of prejudice because she was woman; someone has to say “up yours” to that. A woman as not only the sect master of Gusu Lan but the Chief Cultivator? Love that for Gusu Lans. (⌐■_■) ☞ ☞

B) Because of ~ sexism ~ I wonder if Lan Wangji would get titled “Hanguang” at all even after the Sunshot Campaign. Even Lan Yi, the SL Lan of her time didn’t have a title. Chances are LWJ won’t either. (Note: Violet Spider is not a title, it’s a moniker). So — say after the way Lan Wangji is still just “Lan-er-guniang”, and she does not obtain the title “Han Guang” until after she leaves Cloud Recesses and become rogue. (srsly how did they come up with these titles in canon, did gusu lan just look at 21 year old lwj and be like yah he’s lord light bearer *cue trevor noah stand up joke* why do you call yourself “great” britain? isn’t that a bit presumptuous? shouldn’t you go around doing good things and then let other people come to the conclusion: oh britain look how great you are? same logic with lwj.) 

Lan Wangji, a Jade of Gusu or a nameless rogue, still goes where trouble is, helping those who need it. After laying low for a year or two to heal, Lan Wangji began night hunting. Donned neck to ankle in white silk and tulle, and a weimao (wide brimmed veil hat) obscuring her face, she became known to the people as Hanguang Sanren, the lightbearing wanderer. Gusu’s highest power probably has some idea who she is - or at least they can guess - but the vast majority of people don’t. 

C) Lan Sizhui raised by rogue Lan Wangji as his mum would be different. Still cultured, respectful, but definitely with an air of keeping others at arm’s length. 

For instance, grown-up Sizhui running interference and saving a cohort of gentry disciples on joint hunts.

Jingyi: 这人谁呀？Who is this guy? Zizhen: 多谢兄台搭救之恩，小可看您眼生，敢问兄台尊姓大名，何门何派，改日当登门拜访. Many thanks for saving us. I don’t believe we’ve met, pray tell what is your name and sect, so we may visit at a later time to thank you for tonight. Sizhui: 在下无门无姓 ，单名思追 。举手之劳不足挂齿 ，怎敢劳烦各位名门子弟答谢。My name is Sizhui, belonging to no family and to no sect. As for tonight - I only did what anyone would; it bears no mentioning and requires no thanks. Jin Ling: 你这人，看你工力不凡，想和你交个朋友，可你��么遮遮掩掩的。Hey you, we see you’re a talented cultivator and want to make your acquaintance. Why are you so dodge-y? Zizhen：金陵 — Jing Ling - Sizhui: 若是有缘，还会相见。告辞。If it’s fated, we will meet again. Farewell.  

Later:  Jingyi: 思。追。 思追谁？Si. Zhui. To recollect and long for whom?  Sizhui: 母亲的一位故人. Someone from Mother’s past.  Jingyi: 你父亲？...Your father?  Sizhui: 我不知。I don’t know. 

I thought about how cute it would be if sizhui and jin ling knew each other but guys...Jiang Cheng literally thinks he killed Sizhui’s biological father. UPDATE 25 JANUARY 2023

Eventually, the whole cultivation world starts pressuring Wei Ying to choose a husband.

Ome thing to keep in mind is that WWX is still 15 or 16 when all of this is happening. All this pressure isn't good for her mental health.

Wei Ying becomes confused because of her feelings towards all the men.

She goes to talk to her papa about her worries and thoughts about all the men who are trying to court her.

WCZ, being the very protective A-Die that he is, reassures her that she does not have to choose a husband or get married at all. If she wishes to not marry at all, she has the right to do so. She doesn't have to choose any of her suitors.

CSSR comes into the room having over heard the father-daughter convo.

She is accompanied by BSSR and XXC (who are still there btw, they haven't left yet).

CSSR agrees with her husband’s statement and reassures WWX that she does not need to worry as her A-Niang and A-Die will always be there to support her.

BSSR suggests that Wei fam take a vacation on her mountain for a while so they can all chill.

Wei fam agree and go to pack their nags as BSSR declared that they'll be leaving tomorrow.

The Jiangs are the 1st to know about it and aren't very pleased but help them pack anyway.

JC is helping WWX, JFM with WCZ, YZY with CSSR, and JYL entertains BSSR and XXC.

JC questions WWX about her impromptu trip, asking her if she's avoiding him.

She responds that she isn't avoiding him and explains why she's going away for a short while, needing to go clear her mind.

JC is understanding of the situation and gives a kiss on the forehead while telling her to not cause too much trouble.

This moment is very intense and intimate, radiating the pair's romantic and sexual tension.

WWX responds that she can make no promises on that regard but that she'll try to be a good girl for him.

JC grabs into a tight hug with his face buried into her neck and her arms wrapped around his broad shoulders.

JC tells her that if she behaves, he'll reward her when she comes back.

He then places a kiss on her neck and leaves the room.

Wei Ying stays there, standing confused with her face as red as her ribbon.

You know neither i think nor the book frames revenge as something bad so I don’t see a problem with wei ying killing WLJ WZL and WC the questionable thing was the method because he was dehumanizing himself by doing things that way, even XXC tells XY he could have taken a finger even a whole arm if he wanted but anything beyond that was unjustified. Revenge is fine if it’s proportional to the reason you’re getting revenge for

getting revenge and punishing someone horrible who did horrible things to innocents isn’t a problem in the novel’s universe which is totally different from purposely and deliberately inflicting suffering torture and death on innocents for no reason other than political power satisfying your blood thirst or letting off steam, that’s what sets normal cultivators (all of them have been at war and have killed) from murderers or serial murderers like jc xy and jgy

you summed up the key differences between revenge for the sake of justice and revenge for the sake of your own power and self satisfaction. the revenge takes i see in the mdzs fandom are similar to the mob mentality takes, as in most of the time people are talking bullshit to try and justify their poor comprehension of the novel.

wwx killing wen chao and co, in the mdzs universe, is portrayed as his due compensation for the horror they unleashed onto himself and his sect. lwj in particular in the methods and cruelty wwx showed, because it really wasnt like him and even lwj who, admittedly, had fairly limited interactions with him, could see that. its not that he was against him killing wen chao, moreso that he knew something had happened that changed wwx so deeply that he had become ruthless and deranged in his need for revenge (if anything, lwj being able to recognise this instantly in wwx and jiang cheng never seeming to/not caring about it says a lot about the difference to how they both view wwx...)

you see it again when wwx goes after the jin cultivators watching over the wen prison camps, he even says that its only fair that wen ning gets to kill the men that killed him. people talk about this attack as if wwx showed up blood thirsty and ready to kill every ''''innocent''' cultivator in sight, whether they were a part of the corrupt prison camp or not, but wwx gave them loads of time to fess up about what had happened but instead of admitting they were treating the prisoners inhumanly and had killed wn they decided to lie and so wwx decided to leave justice to wn's hands.

wwx is constantly meeting others at their level, he's very rarely the one to initiate conflict, even if it would be understandable for him to do so. most of his desire for revenge doesnt come from any of his personal suffering, but rather the suffering of others without the power to stand up for themselves. he wanted to help the jiang sect get revenge against the wens, no matter the cost. he helped wen qing when she had nothing because of the mercy she showed them when they were destitute ect.

its not comparable to the jgy, xy and jc in my opinion, unless the comparison is how their motives differ. wwx is supposed to be an example of virtue and justice, mxtx intentionally wrote him to be that way. yes, jgy is a complex villain with complex motives, but thats what makes him a good /villain/. the best villains are the ones who have real multidimensional personalities, who arent doing things just for the sake of being 'evil', its good writing on mxtxs part that she could create a villain with so many layers. but by adding this extra depth it doesnt make him any less of a villain, he's just a villain now with a clear goal, and a solid reasoning behind why he's striving for that goal.
