so here's my personal theory on how the mal shit is gonna go:

i think mal's been corrupted by shadow, and i think he either doesn't know about it or did it because he felt it was the only way to protect his friends. similar to how he sees money - the more power he has, the more able he is to guarantee that he'll never be in a vulnerable situation (losing those he loves and being unable to do anything) again

either way i think the corruption is more manipulating him than anything. from the way tyril talked this chapter, it sounds like mal has been making a habit of making harsh, risky decisions. we've even kind of seen this when he jumped in front of Valax' glaive. when i saw that i assumed that it was your main LI who does this, but no, it's always mal. i think this is, in part, supposed to show that mal is acting way more reckless than he usually would

the other part is that, obviously, the real reason the shadow didn't hurt him was that he was already shadow corrupted anyway

im not entirely sure what the endgame is yet, but i think that it's the watcher who's responsible for the corruption. i simply don't trust a man who makes his first appearance in Certified Choices Evil Robes, and besides, today's lore tablet pretty much proved that he's taking us in the wrong direction

aerin is going to play a pivotal role in helping mal get rid of the corruption. he's the one person in the world who knows the most about it, and, from his comments about shadow corruption being more complicated than you think, possibly the only one who believes saving mal is possible anyway. also, i mean, he did go through that process

the process to save mal will likely be extremely painful, if aerin's unwillingness to talk about it is any indication

our relationship with aerin will likely influence the outcome, since he will be the key to helping mal. especially since mal has probably been his #1 hater, the main reason aerin would have to care about mal is his attachment to mc. if you don't have a good enough relationship with aerin, maybe the outcome will be different

it will be through this process that we will learn that The Watcher Is Evil, Actually and possibly foil his plans?

it will be so fucking angsty it's unreal and we'll be fed everything we didn't get in the reunion and more, THIS IS HOW MALMANCERS CAN STILL WIN

personally, I am agnostic on the topic of preemptively blocking people (and sharing block lists, for that matter). I don't usually block people myself unless I'm getting directly harassed and they're becoming a distraction/it's the only way to get them out of my notes. with that being said, that's a personal choice of mine, and I fully support the rights of any blogger to block any other blogger for any (or even no) reason. nobody is entitled to read or interact with anybody else's blog.

this should also go without saying in this day and age, but I do not condone nor encourage anyone going to any of the above blogs to counter-bully them. do not spam their posts' notes, do not send them anon hate, so on and so forth. just block (or don't, if you prefer) and move on. not only for your own sake, but because from my limited direct interactions with/knowledge of a couple of them, it's clear that they crave the attention and it only feeds into their self-pitying view of themselves as the perpetual victim (despite them being the aggressors in each instance I've borne witness to). don't feed the trolls, etc etc.

YES. they weren’t really brought back and for what??? total waste. my own theory on their maximum utility is that they could solve the goa’uld host problem lmao just commission harlan to make a copy of whatever the goa’uld wants to look like... voila, there you go, done, problem solved. maybe that was obvious to the writers and that’s why they avoided it.

but i just feel like in the SGU context they could be used so well for something INCREDIBLY unnerving. the time when young bodyswapped with the nakai alien was unsettling but they never really revisited it or showed us all that much about it (despite using it as part of the episode intro montage for half a season). it would probably be like that but worse. what if the bot versions of them develop consciousness. What If.

you know what would be sort of fucked up but cool. if they could get harlan from SG1 (the guy who made the SG1-bots) to make destiny-crew-bots that would be compatible with the comm stones, which would let rush and young and the whole gang swap back to earth to actually physically do things as themselves, but their real bodies on the destiny would be vacant at the time. I feel like that could be neat and also creepy lmao

I just came across my old volumes recently and wondered: have you ever read After School Nightmare? It's about an intersex guy who has been presenting as male for his whole life, but who comes to question his gender alongside a male and female love interest.

If memory serves I'm pretty sure it's the same sorta sexist 'am I a masculine boy who likes girls or feminine girl who likes boys??' stuff that uhhh isn't actually so progressive as the premise seems lmao. But it was a big eye-opener on gender for teenage me and idk, maybe it's more nuanced than I picked up at the time!!!

yeah so i definitely know about this one because i decided to just never read it lol i've read about it being a character with upper body being "male" and lower body being "female" and the whole "being in a purgatory-like place and needing to pick the one true gender according to the love interest" ending and the notion is so repellent to me that i can't see myself able to get into a place where i can read it. when i started seibetsu 'mona lisa' no kimi he i thought it was going to do something different from this one i really thought vindication had finally come and it barely managed to go one step above not choosing a sex/gender to be straight. but what truly kills my spirit is the choosing itself.

it's the crude disregard for the simple notion that someone might not only choose to live this way but actually like their body. it's the pinnacle of unimaginative and ignorant character building of the "in-between" person so completely removed from any intersex or nonbinary mindset because the story was made by someone who was born in "the right body" and refuses to skirt even a little bit towards the world of these weird unfortunate people as to not impact with their run of the mill happy ending. it's the portrayal again and again of people with bodies "in between genders" being seen as incomplete, as a problem to be fixed, as a passing conundrum on the path to "an actual human adult body".

i thought about not framing this just through a lens that it feels invalidating and intersexist because it is true that i read stuff that are kinda homophobic, transphobic or sexist all the time as it is unfortunately par for the couse for manga. but i guess i can't. it just hits a little too close to home. it makes my blood boil with rage and makes me want to hurl in disgust from the thought of one more story out here being so completely disdainful of the kind of human nature as i know it and experience every day and so careless and shallow about a topic that could contain oceans upon oceans of depth that honestly if i were immortal and decided to check out every single thing ever produced by a human, this pretty much would be last.
