The Kyman Week re-ignsted the Kyman flame in my heart, and I have no one (technically cus my beta is busy) to share my ideas with...

This is me, but more like 6/10 when I upload coz while I might think the plot is good, it probably isnt as awesome as I think and I know my grammar is terrible. The joys of having no beta reader, then once its up I realise I'm not that good a writer and I use the term raised eyebrow to much and need to be put out of my misery. XD
Me, before posting a chapter on AO3: Wow. This is really good. The syntax, the inner turmoil, the grammar. Impeccable. 10/10
Me as soon as the chapter is live: yeah, no. I deserve to be shot.

World building is so annoying sometimes. Not in the sense that the research, character writing, history, map making, or creating of new cultures that takes a lot of time and energy doing is annoying. No, that's the fun part of world building. What's annoying is when you accidentally expand too much on a group of side characters and plot points that are not important to the story , and probably would only be mentioned once when writing the story, to the point that you know more about them than you do the actual main characters of said story. This has happened to me multiple times and is very annoying to deal with when it comes to writing.
I had a comic idea where it's the modern world but some people can control one of the elements (very avatar like I know) and the main plot was set in an academy for those gifted people to train, the main story was going to follow this girl who was trying to get revenge for her family, a very simple and very easy to follow plot.
The problem? When writing the love interest for said girl I gave them a sister who was in a Jpop idol trio led by a mixed girl. Which led to me writing more about the idol.Which led to me wanting to know how her experience with being mixed would affect her chances of becoming an idol. Which led to me making it so that the love interest sister (who was at most a side character that would have been mentioned a handful of times) and the members of her idol group has more plot written about them than the main character whose character design hasn't even been finalized.
The idol group's name is Exotic and the lead singer is Japanese American, their third member is an Albino Korean-Japanese and the love interest sister has vitiligo and is Chinese-Japanese, and I still don't know the main antagonist name.

POV:
Your brain is filled with so many story ideas, you can't decide what to do first, and you intend to do them all while you've got the time. And so you've resorted to letting Fate decide...
Tumblr media
Let's see who gets written first... Shall we?
Any guesses?

Quick reminder for those who read fanfics:
You cant control the plot, only the writer does. And if the fic takes a turn you didn’t like, just stop reading it. There’s no excuse to send hate to the author, or to ask them to rewrite their work!
I understand that maybe you liked the fic and you wanted to finish reading it, but if it doesn’t make you happy anymore, like a book you lost interes in, then just stop reading (?), don't take your frustration our on the author.
Also, you don’t have to explain why you’re not readind it anymore, especially if no one asked you. There’s no need to be rude to the writter.
Damn, it's like some of you need to go back to kindergarden!

Bình yên là khi ngoảnh lại những năm tháng đã qua, thấy gập ghềnh chông gai lởm chởm. Thế mà mình vẫn còn ngồi đây với một vài vết xước nhỏ đã phai màu.

Why do we story writers, no matter if we're making fanfictions or original works, have this urge to make our blorbos suffer ?
I have been asking myself this question for years and I have yet to find an answer, personally...

The wolf in disguise
(Author’s note: Let’s see how this goes 😄👍)
He’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing except the wolf is terrible at playing dress up. Instead of soft, curly, white wool the wolf used thin, fluffy, white chicken feathers to mimic the wool of a sheep. But he didn’t fully cover his body in feathers. His long nose, pointy ears and grey tail stuck out like a rose in a field of bluebells. He’s obviously a wolf yet the sheep still believe he’s a sheep despite his major differences. The guard dog warns them about the wolf in disguise, but the sheep think they would know if they see a wolf in disguise. The guard dog tries to chase the wolf off yet the sheep defend him and say he’s a real sheep. The sheep refuse to let the guard dog chase away the imposter. They threaten to run away if the guard dog chases the sheep away. The guard dog continues to protect the flock despite the major danger among them. The guard dog could only hope the sheep realize the danger they’re in.

question for my fellow fanfic writers:
have you ever used your fanfics in your writing portfolio or shared them with a “professional?” why or why not?? if so, how did you go about it?
for context: i’m interviewing for a writer position at some magazine which got me thinking about my work and how i never dared to used my fanfics as a source of writing experience or expertise as i thought they were somehow unprofessional despite them being some of my best fiction work.
