still near catatonic about the show and the direction in which it was taken. ive seen macbeth on stage once before, and then on screen a few more times, and yet this one is probably the most sensitive, clever, and plain interesting version ive seen out of all of them?
you have david portraying macbeth as this really formidable, brave and lauded general, initially curious but otherwise sceptical at The Prophecy. that's a given. but then he gradually succumbs to ambition and greed; but what i didn't expect is the choice to emphasise how pitiful his wavering resolve would be? how he oscillates so heavily between heeding that greed, but initially clings to the last vestiges of his honour and morality. it's not just that he's a dick with sudden flashes of morality; you can feel that there's a war going on in there, and a constant underlying fear and terror. with macbeth in general i think it's tempting to immediately make macbeth either a mindless and easily-swayed tool of his wife or to make him outright bloodthirsty and tyrannical from the onset, but you don't... get that in this? at all? and it pleasantly surprised me. instead you get a deliciously insidious and creeping mania, steadily suffocating him (beautifully portrayed by a combination of the rest of the company, the score, and the lighting) and get to watch how it just ousts every last good and decent part of him, done so perfectly that i genuinely felt terrified and tense the whole time.
and then LADY MACBETH oh my GOD SO. so. from the first moment that she was on stage, cush was just utterly captivating. i didn't ever want to look away from her, even as she lingers in the background??? her madness, such as it is (and for lack of a better term), is so apparent from the very first moment that she's on stage; jittery hand movements, darting eyes, and a sweet, almost childlike voice? for me, the fact that this is not a wholly scheming, cruel, and demonised version of her, and instead is a lady macbeth that is achingly vulnerable, was so refreshing. like yeah she's visually marked with this sort of innocence, but it carries into cush's mannerisms and delivery too. despite her plotting and what she goads macbeth into doing - almost to a point that it seems like he deliberately uses her ambition as a scapegoat for his own - you end up seeing her as a lost soul, of sorts, and want to protect her from her own mind. the fact that you don't see a manifestation of her 'madness', only macbeth's, makes it all the more intriguing. and the language and imagery of rejecting her femininity and womanhood not only provides a contrast to macbeth re: perceived weakness/lack of conviction, but also further elucidates on how haunted of a person she seems to be? idk if that makes any sense but at times it felt like i was watching a play composed of ghosts right from the beginning. favourite portrayal of lady macbeth ever, hands down.
and then god im going to dream about the blocking and the choreography for bloody ages; not just the ceilidh (which was awesome, loved that sm) and the fight scene, but the choices in how each character moves around and uses the stage, and how they interact with each other (in this, lady macduff was particularly mesmerising goddamn). epitome of this however is a) the opening of the whole play because 🙃🫣🫠, and b) act 4 with the song of the witches (i don't want to spoil it or any of the other more horror-like scenes but im now intrigued that max webster also did king lear 👀 and would be very interested if he did something like othello, too). last thing was the sound; i didn't read much up on the first run before seeing it, so the only feature that i really knew about was the sound design- i was initially worried that it might be a bit gimmicky? but fuck it was complete genius.
anyway so this was a complete ramble but if anyone is still unsure whether to try getting on the day tickets just. do it. it's an incredible version of macbeth, and im fucking pumped that i get to see it twice more, because there is just so much that im sure i didn't pay enough attention to, and absolutely deserves it. amazing company, amazing play, and whilst - don't get me wrong - i feel this is one of his most defining (if not The defining) shakespeare role for david, i truly didn't expect to be so blown away by literally everything else.

Phic Phight - Does The Blood And Viscera Define Him (It’s from Fights And Injuries, Guys, Not Messy Bloodsucking, Gosh!)
@going-dead
Maddie and Jack consider themselves very supportive parents, even if they were rather strange, and that includes towards they’re definitely not human, or entirely human, son. Besides! At least he wasn’t a ghost! Vampires were much better, Vlad made that pretty clear.
Maddie side-eyes Danny as subtly as she can, watching him open the fridge, quirk an eyebrow, and poke the little blood juice box in there. Sticking that in there wasn’t the most subtle of things she could have done, but it was easy enough to explain as a ‘easy transport’ blood transfusion that Jack wanted to design to make ‘look fun’; and it did have a tube and needle instead of a straw so it technically could be used that way. That wasn’t really why they made it though, not a chance.
No, the point was Danny. Trying to make sure he was healthy.
She’s not entirely sure how he was getting his needs met, she had a good guess of course. Sam was always pale, even if she always had been since she’d first meet the young girl. And Tucker would literally sell his soul for Danny. Plus there was also the fact that Sam was not only extremely wealthy, but her parents never really looked at any purchases she made; she could absolutely be buying him blood. She’d also spotted them bloodied or bandaged once or twice; Tucker on the neck even. This was all without even touching Danny’s odd ‘frienemies’ relationship with Vlad, sometimes he seemed to hate the man’s existence and other times it felt more like Danny trusted him more than her or Jack.
And well…
Vlad was a vampire so…
She could understand is what she’s saying.
She makes a point to focus back on trying to fix the toaster, for the fourth time this month, when it seems like Danny might turn around. She can tell the moment his eyes are on her, she always could, it always had this sort of predatory pressure to it; she’s thankful it never felt possessive or creepy like it did with Vlad. No, Danny’s gaze felt more… cautious, like an uneasy predator, and protective, as if he worried about them getting hurt. Hurt by him or from the ghosts or from their own recklessness, she’s not sure, but she could never bring herself to be worried about him hurting her. Heck she didn’t even worry Vlad would genuinely hurt her; if that man wanted to bite her he likely would have a long time ago and he was far too self controlled to do it accidentally. If Danny did bite her, she’d probably spend more time calming him down and reassuring him, than actually trying to get him to stop. It’s was a parents job to look after and support their kids, if that meant blood with her son then so be it. If that meant trying to clean up the state his room wound up in so often, then so be it. Even if that was fairly disgusting, he was clearly not the cleanest drinker considering all the organic messes he managed to get on the floor and his walls. He even got a bit of rotting blood inside his window wall somehow. She made the mistake when he was younger of just leaving him to clean up his own room, the carpet had to be ripped out and it literally was dripping with gooey unidentifiable gore. Danny’d been very awkward and wouldn’t met her eyes after she told him about ripping up his floor; she didn’t give him too much hassle about it but still. She went in there with an enzymatic cleaner at least once a week now.
She waits a few minutes after Danny leaves to look in the fridge, the blood box is gone and she feels… content. Like she’s done her job as a mother.
(Danny doesn’t know why the heck his folks would make blood transfusions in juice boxes of all things, but they made a mini bazooka shaped like a toothbrush, he should expect this shit by now. Either way he wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth, his ghostly physiology meant he didn’t really have to worry about blood type and he absolutely did not want that emergency blood fusion thing to happen again. He felt like a huge dick asking Tuck to do that just because of some stupid blood sucking unicorn ghost).
She makes sure to send Jack a photo of the fridge with a thumbs up emoji, letting her husband know the idea was a solid one. Some of both of their ideas had been hit or miss. Sam appreciated their backyard being more shady, even if Maddie’s sure Jack’s ‘we needed a new shed’ explanation wasn’t believed, but Danny didn’t seem like he even noticed. His refusal to use sun screen also bothered her, to the point where she’d started adding speciality spf drops to his body washes to make sure he got at least some protection. Rolling her eyes to herself a little, boys and their ‘I’m too tough for such and such thing’. At least he wore long sleeves these days, and thick pants sun couldn’t easily get through.
(Danny was hiding scars. Danny was tired of cheap thin clothing getting wrecked. Danny was developing muscle that he did not want noticed).
Her cooking black pudding and blood sausage did not go over well, everyone agreeing -including Danny- that it was gross and to never try that again. She did attempt it another time, just to see if she messed it up, but, well, that became sentient and everyone was very disgusted by the ‘blood spitting sentient sausage’, Danny had even seemed personally offended, likely he thought the ‘waste of blood’ was insulting.
(Danny got covered in his own blood and ecto, as well as others, enough that a freaking sausage doing it legit was insulting. He had been very offended).
Jack’s fang brush Danny did seemingly take but she’s pretty sure he’s using that on a stray dog he seemingly likes but has never brought home.
(Cujo loved its weird shape. Danny loved that Cujo loved it).
Maddie shakes her head, smiling a little down at the toaster as she gets the last little piece in place, she’s not sure why it had a habit of spitting toast at Danny but she is slightly annoyed that he keeps retaliating like a toaster can care about that. Even if vampires were more aggressive and vindictive by nature, it was still annoying to keep having to fix it; at least it gave Danny something to take those natural desires out on… besides his pranking feud with Vlad. She really would like Vlad to do almost anything else other than nailing dead badgers to Danny’s door or beneath his window, she gets that the man has completely normalised animal corpses to himself -since she’s sure that’s what he feeds off of- but it’s extremely disturbing and Danny complains heavily about the clean up effort. At least she got Danny to stop mailing Vlad fully made cereal, since the mailman threatened to stop taking their packages if he got one more moldy stink bomb box; she hadn’t had the heart to tell the mailman it was moldy food being mailed the long way specifically to get more moldy and not a stink bomb.
Jack pops up from the lab, arms full with more blood boxes and grinning. Maddie putting her hands on her hips, whispering, “Jack, that’s way too many. It’s suspicious”. Her husband has the good sense to look embarrassed and dash right back down to the lab. Being subtle, at least subtle enough, was important. Neither one of them wanted to give away what they already knew, they wanted Danny to tell them himself! Sure, Vlad never did, but after that lab accident she couldn’t blame him for not trusting them, especially when he refused to talk to or visit them for twenty years… She’s still convinced that Danny’s why that man got back in touch with them, that he somehow knew or found out about Danny. Vampires probably smelled different to vampires than humans did. Same with how ghosts clearly had a strong ectoplasmic scent, hence why Danny always seemed to know when one was nearby and would smartly run off.
Jack comes back with only three boxes, which might still be pushing it but she won’t tell him off this time. They go in the fridge.
At least Vlad didn’t really hide being a vampire either though, which Danny was very clearly trying very had to do. She’d absolutely caught glimpses of Vlad’s eyes flashing red, and his hair style did nothing to hide his pointy ears with the way he wore it. The fangs weren’t subtle either and sometimes she thinks he’s trying to make his dark undereyes actively more noticeable. While Danny’s hair always somewhat covered his ears these days, the fangs… either he’s filling them down or he can retract them.
Oh, right, she should update that message board that her son seemed to like the blood juice box idea. Originally her and Jack had joined the website as just lurkers, when they got suspicious about Vlad years ago, but they kinda forgot about it once Vlad made it really clear he wasn’t ‘interested’ in their ‘support’ or friendship. Then Danny hit his pre-teen and early teen years, they’re assuming he ‘awakened’ during the beginning of puberty but the message board made it clear that vampires could awaken at pretty much any age. Sure they only had access to the ‘human’ areas, and not the parts meant for vampires, but it was a fantastic resource. The area for parents of vampires was particularly useful, and a couple others were curious how the blood juice box thing would go over; Maddie and Jack weren’t subtle about being inventors. Maybe they should try selling them?
Her and Jack both heading down to the lab now. Him getting back to work on a shield to protect the Highschool, since it was such a hot spot. Her hopping on the computer.
MadScientist: the juice box method seemed well received. He was a bit cautious about taking it, but still took it. We’re calling it a winner. Hopefully more cropping up, and him taking them, will make him more comfortable with it.
LemiRemi: he might not take them too often, since I’m sure what he gets from his blackswans is arguably better. And they might get worried if he starts feeding off of them less.
Maddie did worry about that, especially since she knew Sam and Tucker wouldn’t bring such worries up with her or Jack, nutritionally he should be fine since they formulated it to be identical to the nutritional value and contents of human blood; it wouldn’t be ‘as fresh’ probably but still.
MadScientist: hopefully it won’t worry them too much, since we really are just trying to make sure he’s healthy and trying to get him comfortable enough to talk with us about it.
Gem45: some kids just never really get comfortable with their parents, but their health should definitely come first.
Zeemzeff: I wish my kid had the resources you do, him autofeeding always worries me
Maddie was still lost on how autofeeding, a vampire feeding off of themselves, was remotely viable, even if it sounded like it wasn’t really safe rather just survivable. If Danny started doing that, she’d out and tell him she knew immediately to get him to accept their help with getting his ‘food’.
MadScientist: I was thinking about trying to sell the blood boxes, but I doubt they could handle any really long trips. We already sell volatile and sensitive inventions so the transport itself would be fine. But blood is only good for so long.
Zeemzeff: oh how I wish we lived in America sometimes. The weather is a lot better here but man, do Americans have access to everything.
Emilyfreetree: I’m still lot letting my girl anywhere near one of those blood bars.
MadScientist: agreed
She’d be concerned if Danny even wanted to go to a place like that, Vlad no doubt did but she’s going to hold out hope that the man will not encourage Danny to when he’s of age. She wouldn’t… object to him buying blood wine though, even if it was expensive and apparently a bit on the salty side; only when he’s older of course. Heck, she’d try some if it made him more comfortable.
LemiRemi: I’d be interested in purchasing that, at least to see if my kid would like it. I definitely would discourage getting too dependent on just that though
MadScientist: we’ll see what we can do. Even if my son was fine with just the boxes I’d rather him have variety, that has to be healthier.
Her looking away from the computer to her husband, “at least one person’s interested in trying to buy the blood boxes, so we should definitely work on that”.
Jack beaming instantly, “awesome!”, rubbing his neck, “we just gotta make sure none of that gets accidentally contaminated”. Maddie nodding immediately, that wasn’t an issue for Danny, since he has that contamination of his, but it would be an issue for anyone else. Jack then snapping his fingers, “oh! We should totally send Vladdie some! Betcha he’d love some human mixed in with all that animal he gets!”. Maddie sighing, fairly certain Vlad won’t actually appreciate that.
(Danny later had to explain to an annoyed though impressed Vlad that no, he did not mail him fucking human blood regardless of that reading as a ‘your ghost ass looks like a vampire’ joke. Vlad did not believe him and sent back a bloody thank you card as a form of mocking).
Jack liked to think he was a pretty good dad, a little oblivious and a little silly, but still a good dad. Sure his family was a little weird, from the ghost hunting to his daughter’s baffling intellect to his son’s species. Sure Jazz and Danny got a little annoyed with the ghost hunting, but it helped keep the town and his family safe. Even with both of them avoiding the gear so much, sometimes it seemed like Danno was nervous around the stuff, like maybe he thought they’d start hunting vampires too or something! Never! But he’s certain vampire hunters exist too, even if he’s never met any. Fae probably exist too, same with fae hunters. But fae and vampires, probably or definitely for vampires, have brains and hearts; far better than the ectoplasmic nothingness ghost had. Ghosts weren’t beings. Sure Danny’s vitals were a little weird but they were still there, same as Vladdie’s!
Jack shaking his head as he tries to focus back in on the gun he’s putting back together, they needed something that would actually work on that Phantom ghost, at least to talk to the thing about what was driving It to behave as some kind of wannabe ‘ghost hunter’. That, and Phantom clearly knew about Vladdie, based on his public comments, so he’s got to wonder if the ghost knew about Danny too. Danny-boy was weirdly ghost-friendly, a monster comradery thing perhaps, so maybe Danny talked with the ‘friendly’ ghost about the less human things about himself. Jack would rather his kiddo come to him with that, but he could understand a bit. And Phantom was, like, hundreds of years old so no way the spook didn’t know about vampires; that online forum made it seem like there were quite a few out there! Which most people probably wouldn’t like knowing about, but he’d rather Danny-boy have lots like him than very few.
Oh! Jack pauses, maybe if he just seemed like he was trying to talk to Phantom on ‘friendly’ terms the spook would float down and have a chat? Sure it would be hard to resist shooting It but if he could find a thing or two about how to better care for his kid then it would totally be worth it.
Jumping up and sticking his head down the lab door, “I’m heading out! Gonna see if I can track some spooks down!”.
“Make sure not to bother Danny if he’s day sleeping in a tree again!”.
Jack rubbing his neck, “how was I supposed to know he’d be there?!?”.
“You need to practice more situational awareness!”.
“I’ll try! Hon!”.
His dear sweet Maddie only laughing in response as he heads out. He knew he wasn’t the best at paying attention to his surroundings, but Danny-boy sleeping so quietly didn’t help! He definitely wished Danny’d get more sleep though, daytime sleep since all the night time sleeping didn’t seem to be doing him much good; perhaps he couldn’t actually really sleep at night at all and that’s why he kept falling asleep in classes before they just started letting him spend Sundays sleeping instead of doing chores.
It’s really bright out today, Amity was usually pretty good for cloud coverage, even if the sudden random snow storms that cropped up sometimes were odd. The light glare off of the scanner was annoying but that didn’t stop it from picking up on spectral traces, he knows a fight happened down by the park this morning so that’s where he’s heading. It was deer season too so maybe he could snag one there for lunch, something more fresh even if Danny always seemed a little confused and weirded out when he brought something home for Mad’s to serve nearly raw. Kiddo probably just wasn’t a big fan of getting his food from something that was actually dead dead. It was too bad ghosts didn’t have blood in them, Jack would love trying to encourage Danny-boy to bite them.
He actually has more luck with the animals than the ghost samples, none of samples were anything they haven’t already gathered and examined multiple times over. Meanwhile, he’s got himself a good healthy little bunny, just startle It with a ray blast at the ground and then quickly grab and break its neck. Simple, quick, and painless; just like how his pa taught him. Honestly it was more of a struggle to not fully crush really small animals, one of the downsides of being a really big guy.
“What’d the bunny do to you?”.
Jack actually jumps, whirling around with his prize and blinking in surprise at Phantom’s judgmental raised eyebrow, “oh! Phantom! Ha! Didn’t see you there”, holding up the rabbit a little, “they're good for stew, and the rabbit population here is a little crazy since there’s no coyotes or anything”. When the ghost issue first popped up, the spooks chased pretty much all the wild life away but over time most just got used to the ghosts. And sure, stew wasn’t as great a blood meal for his Danny but it was still fresh meat; and the blood wouldn’t have to be thrown out since he’d figured out how to powderise it and mix it into Danny’s ground coffee. Danny had even commented on getting a better batch! So Jack called it a win!
(Much later, after finding this out, Danny would make a rather panicked call to Vlad about if ghosts liked the taste of blood. Vlad had been completely baffled, didn’t have a good answer, and agreed to try some of Danny’s apparently blood contaminated coffee. Vlad had some opinions on Danny’s disgustingly strong coffee as well as agreeing that yes, ghosts probably did actually like the taste. The FrightKnight later confirming that yes, ghosts did, and humans used to give ghosts live and blood sacrifices for that very reason. Danny had a crises… he didn’t stop drinking the blood coffee though. It was already too late anyways! And! It did taste better).
Phantom blinks, “okay, you’re not wrong, but it is still super weird to see a random citizen just… strangling a rabbit in the park”.
Jack cringes a little, okay yeah, he can see how that might be alarming and something to go check out. Laughing anyways, “fair enough! Vladdie hasn’t said it’s not allowed though!”.
Phantom grumbling, “considering what the dear old mayor does to animals that’s not really a good thing”.
Jack beams a little, oh he was totally right! Phantom definitely knew! Sweet! “Eh gotta get those needs and murderous desires met somehow, am I right?!”. Phantom’s concerned expression doesn’t change, if anything It seems slightly more concerned. “And he’s a good mayor for the town, even if he wasn’t my buddy I’d say that!”.
“I guess? He’s certainly different enough to fit in?”, Phantom shakes his head and holds up a finger, “question, why? aren’t you trying to shoot me?”.
Jack rubs his neck, “well knowing my Danny-boy, he’s probably tree sleeping again and the wife did just give me clear instructions not to wake him up, again. Night sleeping doesn’t seem to be working out for him, figures, so you know”.
Phantom blinks, “he… does sleep in trees a lot”, smirking, “I’ve startled him, and birds, a few times”.
“I’m surprised he’s never given himself a sunburn really, leaves aren’t super great shade”, Jack shaking his head, even if Danny-boy wasn’t a vampire, Jack would still worry since he’s such a pale kid. Honestly Jack would probably worry about the kid having an iron deficiency if he didn’t know about the vampire situation!
“I really don’t think you have to worry about that. He can handle the sun”.
Jack taps his chin, perhaps his contamination made him more resilient? “I suppose his contamination makes him a tougher cookie”.
Phantom tilting his head, “yeah… physically strong and all that”.
“Sometimes I wonder why he’s not stronger”, Jack chuckling, “that or he’s got a bit better strength control than I’ve got! Ha!”.
“I have seen you pick up that military vehicle of yours”.
Jack laughing a bit more, “exactly!”, Danny really should be stronger than him, Jack knew Vladdie had some serious strength but he was also on a basically animal only diet. Danny was getting human, from those friends of his, so he should be seriously strong! Danny-boy was probably just really self-conscious about his strength, and so was really careful about it! Not that he needed to be! Just the same as how he’d get all awkward when anyone commented on him getting places really quickly, he’s not sure if being able to turn into a bat was a real thing, it didn’t seem to be but who knows! If he could then Danny-boy would totally love flying! Oh! Maybe he can just ask Phantom here about that! “I also wonder why he doesn’t talk about flying, he’s always loved space, so you’d think he’d find ways to get up in the air more”.
Phantom’s response is slightly panicky for some reason, “I mean, I’ve gone flying with him before, you know how ghosts fights can be. It’s a much easier way to get out of a dangerous area”.
Ha! Jack knew it! That was so cool! Danny could be a bat! Like from Hotel Transylvania! He bets Danny makes for an adorable bat! Same with Vlad! Vlad’s probably a tall skinny bat! Like a flying fox bat or a Sulawesi fruit bat with their sharp faces! Imagine if Danny-boy was a cute little Honduran white bat or a teeny tiny bumblebee bat! Danny would be so embarrassed but so cute! Kid already fit in his hand, in one finger would be so adorable! Him blurting out, “he must use a really weird brush to deal with that wind swept hair! His normal hair’s already a handful! Ha!”.
Phantom looks so confused and is probably sticking around at this point because of Its confusion. Maybe the ghost found it weird Jack took this long to ask things? Phantom blinks harshly, “I know that Sam girl has tried to brush him with a toothbrush but I think that’s the closest to weird it’s ever been”.
A! Toothbrush! That was adorable! He hopes the goth has photos he can see whenever Danny gets comfortable enough to tell him. “A toothbrush! Ha! That’s great!”.
(Danny is very confused when his next birthday card has the image of a bat getting toothbrush head scrubbies on it, and also confused as to why Jack thought it was hilarious).
Phantom blinks, “yeah… did you… come down here just to strangle a rabbit?”.
Jack holds up the scanner, “nope! Was seeing if there’d be any good samples to take! The rabbit was just a bonus, a yummy one and nutritious”, nodding strongly to himself, “Danny boy definitely needs to put on a pound or two”.
“I think? he’s fine?”.
Oh perhaps vampires didn’t really need to worry about that? That’s good, “well a growing boy still needs to get that blood pumping, either way”, humming, “maybe I should take him hunting proper one day. Fishing went okay?”; oh he definitely should! What if Sam or Tucker get sick or injured and can’t feed him? He should be able to get an animal on his own. Yes! New bonding opportunity!
Phantom chuckling awkwardly, “I’m not going to encourage you taking your son out to kill things”.
Jack waving the ghost off, “oh you’re a ghost! That’s expected!”, putting his hands on his hips and nodding strongly, “I’m taking him hunting”, smacking a fist into a hand, “in fact, I’m going to go home and plan it right now, bye you spook!”. Phantom sighing tiredly while waving Jack off. Phantom was really good at that playing friendly act! Wow!
(Surprisingly, the whole hunting bonding trip went weirdly well. Even if Danny was kinda disturbed and weirded out when his dad actually had him freaking carve up a deer and then just… told him to take out the heart and take a bite out of it. Since APPARENTLY that was ‘first kill’ tradition. Danny was disturbed. Danny absolutely had a really weird dream about cutting out his own heart and taking a bite out of it. Danny didn’t like that it didn’t taste bad. Danny had a lot of feelings about this. Jack… also took a photo and sent it to Vlad. Vlad was actually disturbed and called Danny personally to ask if he was safe and sane and that this wasn’t what he meant by halfas being apex predators. Danny threatened to bite his heart too. And his dad, only hearing half the conversation, seemed weirdly proud).
Jack basically barging into the lab, “so I ran into Phantom!”, holding up his catch, “and we can have rabbit stew tonight! Right?”.
Maddie grinning at him, “of course dear, just get It drained first”.
“Of course! And! Phantom totally said Danny can fly! Didn’t really confirm the bat thing but apparently Sam’s brushed him with a toothbrush before so I say I’m sold!”, tilting his head and humming, “the spook also implied Danny’s contamination makes him tougher with that sun sensitivity issue, so we don’t actually have to worry too much about that”.
Maddie sighs happy, “that’s great, and I’m sure he makes an adorable bat, if it’s a bat thing at all, but try not to tease him too much Jack? We want him to feel comfortable, not more awkward”.
Jack just laughs, rubbing his neck with his free hand before going upstairs to work on the rabbit. Him getting Danny to help when the boy gets home, the kid might be slightly weird about handling blood and raw meat but he needs to be used to it and to not act weird around it.
And if Danny licks his fingers clean then who’s he to judge? Sure he didn’t actually see his boy do that but well, one second his fingers and hands were a bit messy and then next second Jack looked and they were completely cleaned off. Danny-boy absolutely licked his fingers clean and nothing could convince Jack otherwise.
End.
(the message board referenced in here does actually exist for psych and sanguinarian vampires, Maddie and Jack have just misinterpreted it to also mean actual real life fanged non-human movie vampires. Also yes, if you didn’t know blood bars are a real thing, they are. Also also, blood in wine is a thing but it’s been banned since the 1930’s; but if you want to make your own wine out of blood you absolutely can, go wild.)
Prompt: Jack and Maddie knew something supernatural was going on with their son, waiting for him to feel comfortable telling them they set out to help him in subtler ways. If only they had actually gotten the species right.

Alright Phandom, I am finally vibing and ready to get into character design with a very loose idea of characters basically all connected by Pariah Dark.
So far I have his bodyguard alongside Fright Knight, who is his sister-in-law, and is design wise based on a shark/sea theme, and who I think I will call Thalassa.
I have his advisor, who is a sneaky gremlin with a heart of gold, whom is going to be based on a candle/ parchment, and who I think I'll call 'The Archivist' because it's ominous and I can't come up with a name for him.
I don't have anything else, I might design the ghost queen because I already know she's there because Thalassa is her sister, but I don't have a particular theme for her.
I kind of want ideas, if anybody can pitch in? I might go the elemental route and have air and earth characters to complete the roster, but that seems a bit too obvious, so I'd like some ideas.
I'll put in some designs here so people know what I have so far.
This is Thalassa (for certain/generally what she's going to look like)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I haven't come up with a full colour scheme for her yet, so feel free to suggest that as well.
As for The Archivist, his story is a bit more convoluted, because really I wanted to recycle him from a 'skin' I made for an Identity V OC I made back when I played the game. Funnily enough, the OC was a cinnamon roll (his name was Ethan) and that's not what I'm going for with The Archivist.
Here's the skin in question (which I'm still very proud of UwU)
Tumblr media
I've decided to keep the colour scheme (though I might make his skin green for contrast again)
But here's my sketches in the dp style so far:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Right away I knew I wanted him to have floating hands and a scroll as a forearm because I made sketches where I could play with that in my own style.
Tumblr media
In this sketch I hadn't made the decision to add asymmetry in his design, but I knew I liked the scroll arm. It's just been awkward fitting it in the DP style, and I hope I can figure out how to make it look better.
But basically, the idea is that he looks like a big candle but also he's parchment-like in his clothing. Something about candles and old burnt paper goes together well aesthetically, I think the vibes are correct.
The only thing I'm worried about is his face, because even though I tried to modify it a little it looks like Danny (he's my comfort zone character so that might be why).
Either way, going with specific things as inspirations for characters is working because I like what I've made •^•
(Also if any artist who can do the DP style sees this, please tell me how to force the scroll arm into looking more natural, as much as I know I have to kill my darlings, as it were, this darling looks really really cool when I do it in my style-)
Soo... Yes! That's it for now. I would also be happy if anybody suggested a discord dp server I can hang out in. I remember I was in a really big one but I lurked because I'm just not used to big servers and I didn't know what to do lol
(I really want to share my designs and ideas with fanfic writers btw, because I know I'm too perfectionist to write the stories myself, so maybe communicating with writers can help me kinda maybe do that-)
So... Yeah! If you've read this far, thank you! I hope your day or night goes great! ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

Lockwood & co 5-8
part one, and with the colours same rules apply. link to my thoughts/ reactions to the first two books
episode 5: not to repeat myself but i want a set tour so bad
"nothing we can't handle together" Lockwood is great
I love Lockwood's little recoil when Lucy tells him "to make an effort"
roleplay version 2. I love the little movements on Lockwoods face when he saw Danny's body. missing scene (sort of) does Barnes ever find out who the body is? and that Danny was someone Lockwood knew?
talking about Flo and then meeting her at night. inbetween: what was happening? what were they doing?
the way "her" was said and Lockwood yelling "run"
book quote "Flo Bones annoyed me" came through loud and clear. I love Lockwood's face watching Flo and Lucy bicker.
Sugar count: 6/7 I think
I love Flo noting the buttered toast exchange (makes what she says later on so much better.) random note: what's on the board
I actually really like the design for Joplins flat and this conversations with her
"incase anyone misses me. unlikely..." poor George
missing scene: they should have had a Winkman thug killed by the mirror which was partially why they wanted to get rid of it so quickly
love breaking and entering, and there being so many things in the warehouse
scene: I hope Leo gets to be a little shit like he is in the book (though i do love Lockwood and Lucy are so sweet when talking to him)... George is not doing well is he? (so glad they showed us this)
Poor Lockwood but he is so funny talking to Winkman
Lucy: "my friend is really hurting"
Winkman "is she a friend? is she family?" good questions the answer is yes and more
still don't know why Lockwood poured the brown bottle onto the floor. Love this small confrontation between Lockwood and Lucy and poor George was so worried about them.
I love this bit with Carver final words being "come with me" is so eerie
episode 6
such a ritual to prevent ghosts (the salt and light is pretty)
again Barnes cares for them in his own way. I love how nervous Lockwood was watching Lucy think before answering Barnes. and I love the little insights we get into how Barnes works and his thoughts on them as a trio.
I love Lockwood and George showing their anxiety waiting for Lucy then going after her (random thought chalk would be great make arrows on the ground or wall showing which way she went)
should have been added: the boneglass ghosts asking for their bones back. It would have added to the emotional moment of freeing them at the end.
the lockwood slide hand hold I love the umbrella stand of swords
hello Flo. I love this moment between Lockwood and Flo the shared history, the history of the house still being present and her talking about Lucy. Also George calling Lockwood "Locky" and him being all smiley at George and Flo getting along to him going "only one person in the world can call me Locky"
also I think there is a piano in the background and I need someone to play it (go tomorrow from Hill House specifically no idea why but you know)
I love the bit with Kipps honestly. And how emotional they made the gift of the necklace (in the book it was like a paragraph) and him fishing for what's on her mind after seeing the talk with Kipps.
just noticed the map George draws has Lockwood written on the other side
the relic collumns are gorgeous and i love the delivery of "famous legacy" so much. this chat is so funny
I get the impression that they changed Penelope Fitters to daughter of Marissa instead of granddaughter is a good change (05/01/23 I say this as I have not read Empty Grave yet so it might change). and i love the "you feel safe with him. Mr Lockwood" and Lucy fiddles with the necklace.
I love the bit in the library them leaving evidence that someone was in there and it being spotted (and them fleeing the party is so pretty)
episode 7
random note: where did Lockwood put the book? and if it was in his pocket the entire time how did it not get soaked?
love the way they hide. and love Cutter.
"you were petrified at the thought of me leaving you" i always think of this entire scene and then think of Steve Crains quote about walls at the end of Hill House "I thought that wall kept the both of us safe, but walls don't work that way"
thought: someone had to get killed when covering the mirror right
I love the chat between Flo and George.
I love Lockwood's smile at Winkman as he steals the Sources.
Love the look between Lockwood and Cutter and the music and how how differently Lockwood and Lucy handle everything
the Golden Blade is so cool but such a jackass.
love the musical transition from "you, me and herons" to cruel world. and the shove
episode 8
Love the sopping wet look. and this bit between the two (imagine if Lucy told Lockwood what Penelope said to her at some point)
"don't give up on us... don't give up on me"
I love them reading the book together
Love the skull. and Lucy blaming herself and them leaving with "For George. For George"
I love this bit with Kipps
Joplin is so manipulative and plays on George's curiousity so well
love this chat with skull telling Lucy how best to use the boneglass
just reckless enough + completely necessary touch = love them
I love this "parade of Fittes agents" and the hype speech "lets bury them"
Not to let my resident evil brain rot come up but this bit with Winkman reminds me so much of Jack Baker it's insane
I love the fight with the thugs and searching the catacombs with commentary from the Skull
Love the reveal of Joplin being a bad guy
"scrubber girlfriend"
I love Lucy and looking into the boneglass with the skull
Poor Kipps is freaking out this entire time. Lockwood looking like how he feels
the frozen Lockwood bit in the boneglass visions could this be a reference to a certain walk he and Lucy go on in the Creeping Shadow
"you set them free" I really wish they kept the bone glass ghosts request.
I love Lockwood saving Lucy and George and collapsing to his knees
I love how long they made the ride to the surface feel
I love Barnes (George or Lucy should have got a pat on the shoulder maybe)
and the actor for Kipps did his scene talking about his Talent fading deserves praise as I love it so much
and I love Penelope Fittes and the golden blade
imagine: how Norrie's parents feel if they listen to Lucy's messages for her
"George turned out to be a bit of hero" love it
narration: when Lucy talks about herself it's a little weird and doesn't quite work as it should on rewatch
Love this end between them all. George getting excited over a mystery and Lockwood needing to recover and the shoving of donut into George's mouth to shut him
ending: I wish we saw a little of the inside of the room and just see the look on their faces as they see what lays inside.
random thoughts that didn't fit anywhere else they could have had Lockwoods sunglasses and could have worked in the toy mobile scene not in this season but maybe future seasons (you know if we had any)

Morine {Noragami}
Character presentation
[Warning ! Noragami’s spoilers !]
Tumblr media
General
Capacity : Ki
Name : Mori
Usual Name : Morine
Age : 14 years old
Gender : Female
Status : Dead (ghost/shinki)
Transformation : Push Dagger
Tumblr media
Physical Appearance
Morine's straight chestnut hair falls to her shoulder blades. She often wears it up in a bun, but a rebellious lock wanders over to the right side of her forehead. Her green eyes are reminiscent of the color of the forest, which she lightly makes up with mascara. Her skin is dotted with moles. She wears two under her right eye and a string of them all over her body. On her upper left thigh is the shinki mark, the kanji of her name written in red : 森. Morine is taller than girls her age and more muscular. Her arm muscles are also quite well defined, which is a source of complex for her.
Morine's style of dress is quite feminine. She often wears dresses, skirts and elaborate tops. But there's one rule she never seems to break : she never shows her arms or shoulders. She often hides them under layers of clothing, even if it means being too hot. She often wears nail polish to match her mood of the day. It's a way of expressing the emotions she can't bring out constructively.
Tumblr media
Personality
Morine is a young girl whose biggest screw is lying. She doesn't have much self-confidence and will do anything to make people like her. I don't know if I should say more about her yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Relationships
Yato : Yato and Morine's relationship is off to a bad start. The former god of disaster refused to take her on as a shinki for a while. But he finally agreed to take her under his wing under conditions, in discussion with Hiyori. In time, their relationship will improve, because after all, Yato's not a bad guy.
Hiyori : Hiyori was the first person to take her under her wing when she was lost in the woods in spectral form. They also get together around a shared passion : combat sports. A great way to bond !
Yukine : While time is on Morine's side with Yato, it's just the opposite with Yukine. He seemed to like her when she came to live with them, only to find his trust shattered after an argument broke out between them.
Kofuku : They have a bit of a sisters relationship. Kofuku likes to dress Morine up or put nail polish on her. They get along great ! Morine got her purple skirt from her. She gave it to her when she saw her leering at it. It's a gift that means a lot to Morine.
Daikoku : Daikoku has the soul of a father. He loves children and it's not surprising to say that he acts with Morine like a father or uncle, as he might with Yukine.
Tumblr media
Story
Her past is an enigma, her future a mystery, and you'll have to be patient to find out !
Tumblr media
Other things
Here I'm going to talk a bit about what's going to happen to this account and my future posts !
Well hello already, I'm glad to meet you ! I'm Much ! I'm writing this first post on Tumblr to introduce you to a character of my creation and more than that, a project close to my heart. I hope you enjoy it !
You'll no doubt have noticed that a good deal of information is missing. I either fly over them or skip them. Don't worry, it's perfectly normal. Indeed, through this blog, I'd like to draw your attention to what's coming next. This presentation is an introduction, an attempt to intrigue you a little.
Lately, I've been remodeling an Oc that I created when I was a 15-year-old baby. With my MATURE ADULT eyes, I now realize that everything has to be redone ! I've taken over her design, her story, her name... I'm not quite finished bulding the structure of the story, but I know where I want to go.
So I've decided to post what I write about it here ! For the moment, I've drawn the first chapter entirely in the form of manga boards. I tried to reproduce Adachitoka's style for fun. And although it was a lot of fun, I don't think I'll have the time in the future to draw the whole story I want to tell. So I'm thinking of publishing some blogs mixing illustrations and writing.
I plan to post the boards of the first chapter in a while. I hope you’ll like it ! If not... I don't care !
I wish you a good day, a good night and a beautiful life ! See you soon !

FRANKELDA AND HER GHOSTS 1. (Part 2)
Seeing how more and more english-speaking audience is apparently watched Frankelda now, I feel like it's a good moment to post the translation transcript I did of the first live event with the Ambriz brothers, 'Frankelda y sus Fantasmas'. Posting on parts for easy reading because it's over 20 pages long. These are basically Q&A of making-of aspects of the series, going from concepting and design to even edition and post-production, going through Voice-acting and even trivia. They do sometimes comment some lore, but are restricted in how much they can talk about it as it would apparently spoil upcoming things. Latter episodes have some guests, including Mireya Mendoza herself (Frankelda's VA both in english and spanish) Kevin Smithers, who composed the score and songs in the series and even the edition team in the most recent one! (It honestly gives me life to see how much Cinema Fantasma values the whole team.)
It's fair to warn you that it's probably better to have watched the entire first season before checking it out, as it contains commentary on things that might spoil you if you haven't. It's also worth noting that this one was recorded on November the 26th in 2021, back when we had no word of the film being made or the new dub and USA release. Some additional notes:
-El Coco and the Boogeyman are both used for the same character in this one because it's how they do it in the dub. -Something happens in there that I cannot describe with the screencaps alone and the transcript would feel naked without, so description is provided. It's magical, you'll see.
Arturo Ambriz: Good, let’s move to this question which is also really nice- well, we already replied to Val Guerrera’s question, which is: ‘Are you thinking about publishing a book for the show?’. Well, that one’s already settled. Let’s do… let’s move to the next one, which is: ‘Is there one puppet per character and a lot of changes, for instance, mouth, eyes, etc.? Or are there multiples and a lot of changes?’
Roy Ambriz: They’re one-of-a-kind.
Arturo Ambriz: Ah, wait. The question is by Bailey Val… Bailey Valquion.
Roy Ambriz: All the characters are unique, they’re priceless, they have a personality and that’s why there’s only one for each… no, but seriously, yes, there’s only one, because…when you watch the ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ making-of and you see there’s ten Jacks or something like that, I don’t know when- sorry, how many. We… I reiterate, being a Mexican production, new, and the such, we obviously didn’t have the budget to make a thousand copies of each character. So, what we did was make them the smart way in the puppet wing, so that we could fix them, and we had a very talented and… arrrgh! Super strong and buff puppet hospital team, just constantly fixing them again and again. Frankelda… yeah, there’s two Frankeldas, which is… something we hadn’t mentioned up ‘til now. There’s two Frankeldas because she was the character who had the most animated minutes on-screen, and the cool part is, if you look really closely, you can actually tell which is which, and that’s something we love.
If you watch the original ‘King Kong’ movie, the one from the 30s, there’s like three… the King Kong puppets were hand-made, they didn’t even cast them, Ray Harryhousen made them with wet cotton on latex and built them over… over skeletons he made…
Arturo Ambriz: Willis O’Brien.
Roy Ambriz: Ah, my bad, Willis O’Brien. I said Harryhousen but it’s Willis O’Brien. And he made them by hand. So, they’re not identical and there’s like three King Kongs, but it doesn’t matter because the illusion of life is there and, and you know it’s real. But, yeah, the hardcore ones, which I think is all of you, can figure out which one’s Frankelda mark one or mark two. But really, she’s one and the same, don’t worry, she sometimes just… likes to do her hair a little bit different, or arrange her dress some other way, because Frankelda never sits still and her… her spirit can take any shape she wishes to.
Arturo Ambriz: Next question… and it’s from Noemi Juárez… I wanted this one to show up. ‘¿Did you use the same figurine for Frankelda’s grandma and Magali’s hen witch?’ Let’s see, we can answer this one very plainly.  It’s not that it’s the same figurine, it’s not that it’s the same puppet. Could it be that perhaps, perhaps, it’s the same character…? Anything you’d like to add?
Roy Ambriz: Well… Frankel- I mean. Frankelda, her stories, to write them she has to base them off her own life because, and this is a tip I’m giving you, we’re giving you, if you want to tell your own stories, write about what you know. Write about what… what you’ve learned, what you like…
Arturo Ambriz: What you’ve lived, what hurts you.
Roy Ambriz: But this doesn’t mean it has to be hyper-realistic and like… a copy, an exact replica of what is. You can tackle it from fiction, fiction can help to make-up and transform, because you can transform yourself. So you can create characters from an aunt you knew or your friend’s mom who is really interesting, and you can create… and that’s what she does, and so, ask yourselves why Frankelda drew inspiration on her grandma, right? To… to make the witch- who, by the way, her name’s Totolina.
Arturo Ambriz: Good. Next question… ‘What was the production process for the songs? Did you guys make the concepts for the lyrics?’ Alex Rosas asks.
This question is really interesting, we’re definitely inviting Kevin Smithers to one of these, he’s the composer of our songs and our orchestral pieces, and we’ll be able to talk more about this. But look, here’s a really fun little history tidbit… originally, we’d only planned for one song in the whole series, and it was El Coco's.
It was the very first one we wrote, it was the very first one that got recorded. Actually, that one… the Boogeyman’s story only exists because when we… I think it was literally the day we got greenlit to produce this, Roy and I were talking about what we wanted to see on-screen and we said: ‘Ooooff… this hobo monster, El Coco. All scruffy and ragged… in an alley in Coyoacán… playing a thousand instruments and flying ghost kids out of his hat and forming a dead kids orchestra.’  We were like: ‘Yes! That’s what we want to do for this season of ’Frankelda’’. And we started working on the story, we started creating everything and that’s when we made the lyrics for what at the time we still called ‘The Boogeyman’s Waltz’ …
Tumblr media
...and here’s El Coco dropping by, and- hang on, let me get this out of the way… we started to work on the Boogeyman’s song. Sergio Carranza sang it, it turned out amazing, it turned out absolutely breath-taking, and, well, we realized...
[Here Hernevalito hilariously falls off Herneval's arms and Roy tries to silently non-react to it...]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...maybe it was worth it for the whole series to be a musical and have one song per episode. Why? Because we love musicals, because at the end of the day… think about this, I mean, each song… and here’s a little tip in case you like to write songs… each song is a poem.
[Roy then discreetly sits Hernevalito on El Coco's horn.]
Tumblr media
Each song is actually a poem, that’s why Herneval tells Francisca ‘Hey, why don’t you read me that poem you just wrote?’
[Success! No one saw that, right?]
Tumblr media
and it’s a sung poem. Well, songs are poems, right? I don’t know if it’s our way to put in a little bit of… creative, poetic and philosophical writing into the show, on top of it making it a lot flashier, making it more memorable. You listen to the song and it reaches faster. So what we worked on with Kevin was, while we worked on the lyrics…
Roy Ambriz: Specially him.
Arturo Ambriz: We kept working them, writing them, and like… turning them over, looking for… concepts, which, come entirely from the scripts, because the scripts were there first, and once we were clear on which ones they were- what it was we wanted to say and how it could have a nice ring to it- it was then that Kevin Smithers got involved and he helped us to, well, create the music proper, and there’s some… some texts that got edited, and some got longer or got shorter, and it was a very organic process where we included parts of the script, the poetry part, the conceptual and musical part, and everything got combined. And, believe us, we’re really glad to see you liked the songs, you’ve sang them, you’ve posted videos, you know the lyrics. That’s a dream come true for us.
Roy Ambriz: Besides, soon you’ll be able to sing with Frankelda or Herneval. So stay tuned to our Tik Tok channel on the next weeks.
Arturo Ambriz: Yes. Yeah, that’s right.
Next question… ah, this is a good one. ‘Will new kids inspired on your crew show up for the next episodes?’ Danitza Rivas asks us.
Roy Ambriz: Yes! We’re really excited, we have a lot if ideas, we want to see them already. I really like how… I want to clarify, just because they’re based off… as a fun little nod, from- the characters, it doesn’t mean they’re, like… exact copies, right? Of… I mean, they’re fictional characters, that should always be clear.
But yeah, we’re really, really excited about getting to include more kids. Tormenting even more characters; because a writers job is always to torment their characters, that’s how you put them to the test and depending on how they face the challenges you make for them, that’s how you discover what their nature is like. In this case, we like how… they don’t make it, and it’s something really fun to do because there’s a nice little reflection in there. But yeah, there will be many other children- but also expect to catch a glimpse of old acquaintances, of old friends in there, for sure.
Arturo Ambriz: And… I was precisely trying to look for the question to see who made it a while ago… the truth is I lost it, hope someone can help me over here…
Roy Ambriz: Tinta Invisible.
Arturo Ambriz: Someone… no. Someone was asking how we got the idea to use members of the Cinema Fantasma team to be the inspiration for the kids. And yeah, that’s the reality, not everyone may know this but, all the kids that app-
Female background voice: Daniela Herrera.
Arturo Ambriz: What? Daniela Herrera? Daniela Herrera was asking this just a while ago. And we realized  we needed a bunch of kids and we didn’t want them to be generic. We wanted each one, even the ones in the background, just walking by, to have something unique to them that took a step away from cartoon stereotypes, where you always have… the chubby one, the red-haired one, the goth one. I mean, those stereotypes get on your nerves, right? So, we wanted everyone to be a combination of very particular elements, and we were like: ‘Well, people who work in Cinema Fantasma are visually fascinating, it’s like a whole new range of personalities, of shapes, of colors, of voices, everything.’
So, that was the best inspiration because it really is also an homage for our team, they do so much. I mean, this, the stop-motion, the series, the movies, it’s teamwork! And for the next seasons, we’ll keep using people from the team and new people too, people who’ve joined this crew to create more and more characters. I mean, this is part of ‘Frankelda’s DNA and will always be.
Roy Ambriz: Mm-hm.
Arturo Ambriz: OK. Let’s see… ah, this one. Go on and answer this one, Roy. It’s a question from Valeria Palacios: ‘Do people turn unto Spooks when they die or are Spooks born some other way?’
Roy Ambriz: No, a normal person doesn’t necessarily turn into a Spook when they die. It’s actually quite strange but, there’s Spooks who want to be human, like the Gnome- the Gnomes. They want to be human because they don’t like the… the place they were assigned to as Spooks. There’s Spooks who are fascinated by humans, like, from an anthropologic point of view. Like the Boogeyman, who loves to study them and has been doing it since he was… his dad used to bring him to watch him work when he was a kid.
Arturo Ambriz: Don Coco!
Roy Ambriz: Don Coco would bring him to watch him work, and he’d be gawking at them, and he loved them, and he’d say: ‘I just don’t get them. They’re so fragile and so… so stupid…’
Arturo Ambriz: ‘So temperamental!’
Roy Ambriz: So, they loved that. There’s Spooks that absolutely loathe humans, like the Mermaid, who used to have control over the territory and was worshiped as a goddess and now she hates that no one is even aware she’s there, and on top of it they polluted her world, and her pyramid lays forgotten. It’s undiscovered, it’s in Xochimilco but no one’s discovered it yet, it’s underwater.
And then there’s humans who want to be Spooks because they aren’t happy with their lives. Like Tamazola, Tochina and… which one am I missing?
Arturo Ambriz: Totolina.
Roy Ambriz: Totolina! Who are the three witches. In order to become Spooks, they had to figure out a lot of things, I can’t really give away too much because it’s a spoiler. And they had to perform a ritual which they’d been constructing for a long time before they could actually do it, and they hadn’t accomplished it until Magali came along… but there’s a reason they have so many caged animals in their kitchen, y’know?
Arturo Ambriz: You touched upon one of the questions someone… someone else made. This one’s by Alexa Casas: ‘Will we be seeing Don Coco in the next seasons?’
Roy Ambriz: Don Coco! Who can say?
Arturo Ambriz: What do you guys think? A bit of homework for you, you’ll see.
Next… ah, this one’s great: ‘Why did Herneval’s attitude change so much when he became a book?’ Picture this. You guys are maybe, I don’t know…
Roy Ambriz: No spoilers!
Arturo Ambriz: Yeah, no spoilers. You guys are… I don’t know if in middle school, high school, college or already graduates. What were you like five years ago? Picture yourselves ten years ago, the kind of personality you had, the way you spoke, OK? It’s been a hundred and fifty years. That’s all I’m saying.
Roy Ambriz: But, Herneval aged, didn’t he-? ahhh.
Tumblr media
Arturo Ambriz: Spoiler! Spoiler, spoiler, spoiler… soc! OK, next question. Ooff, no, I’m not answering this question because it would be a huge, huge, huge spoiler…
Roy Ambriz: Let me see, what is it?
Arturo Ambriz: I’m gonna skip it.
Roy Ambriz: Read it and I won’t… they’ll just see my expression.
Arturo Ambriz: You sure?
Roy Ambriz: Yeah.
Arturo Ambriz: They’re asking, and there’s actually more than one person asking: ‘Whatever happened to Francisca’s body?’
Tumblr media
…next question…
Roy Ambriz: Tinta Invisible.
Arturo Ambriz: Yes, yes, next question: ‘What’s Herneval’s biggest fear?’ by Meru Chan. Look how- this is a really nice question, it’s true, Spooks have fears too, right?  I mean… specially Herneval, Herneval shows himself as… fragile, vulnerable despite… he’s such a good… I was going to say ‘Good person’, but, let’s say he’s such a good Spook, and…
Roy Ambriz: A handsome lad.
Arturo Ambriz: And a handsome lad.
Roy Ambriz: The fussy book.
Arturo Ambriz: He’s gentlemanly, he’s kind, he’s passionate… but I definitely think that… not to give away to much: Herneval is very scared of loss. He’s afraid of having- people he loves and…
Roy Ambriz: Ah-ah! Erm…
Tumblr media
Arturo Ambriz: OK. Yes. Yeah, that would have been a spoiler.
Let’s see, this question has no, no, no spoilers at all, and it’s… they’re asking… ‘What can I do if I want to learn animation but I’m already studying for a different career?’ Paulina Cortés is asking.
Roy Ambriz: I think this question might also be exemplified better along the next sessions as we get more of our friends parading here, who also created ‘Frankelda’. But in order to animate, to make an animated production, you’ll need lots and lots of different talents and abilities. It’s really funny because sometimes we get called ‘Animators’. The two of us. It’s like- that’s not true, we don’t animate. Well, I animated… a couple of things, but we’re not animators per se, we’re directors, were writers, we’re sculptors. So, an actual animator and with a big range too… I think that might be… too much, and it might be- what’s that word again? Like, overwhelming. Right? Like… too much. It’s… when, really, when you shred animation into tiny pieces, you realize you need someone who knows how to write, someone who knows how to administer a project, someone who can paint, someone who can draw well, and design. Someone…
Arturo Ambriz: Book-keeping.
Roy Ambriz: Book-keeping! You need a musician, or someone who knows about music, you need actors and voice actors. It’s endless, right? Someone who knows about tech, someone who knows about IT, someone who knows computer programming, who can do motion-controls. Who can do post-production-
Arturo Ambriz: Social-media.
Roy Ambriz: So… college is always a starting point, and this is something we always say, from experience. We graduated more or less, ten years ago, give or take. College is a starting point, it’s not that you have to stay there just because you got your degree in that area, it’s a starting point you chose for… a project. But from then on, it’s up to you and your guts, and your continued studies of many other things you didn’t really see in school, and to living, it’s up to you where you lead your life to and where you want to go, and whether you achieve that your calling is… aligning what you want to do for work, with earning money, and on top all of this, with your reason to live, because it’s your life project; and this is how you feel accomplished, and this is how you know you can do some good in the world, and if you manage to align all of that, it’s beautiful. We’re very happy we’re able to do this for a living, but it implies a lot of work and for you to move to where you want to be.
Arturo Ambriz: Next, it’s a question by Bets Chan Ching, and it’s: ‘What is the Spooks’ life cycle and is it the same as humans?’
Roy Ambriz: Hmmm…
Arturo Ambriz: This question is a really good one, such a good one, it’s something that will be gradually answered as the next seasons roll by. What we can say is, it’s definitely not exactly like a human being’s. But I think you can reflect on, I don’t know… have you realized there’s times you don’t want to do a specific homework, you’re scared of doing it because you’re convinced that you’re going to mess it up? And maybe if you’d done it immediately you would have spent half an hour doing it and then you’d be done, but because you didn’t do it during the week, well, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger in your mind, and it’s gigantic by Saturday and it’s even bigger by Sunday? And by Monday at four AM this homework, this fear of doing homework is just massively huge and it’s crushing you? And now something you could have gotten done in half an hour ruined your entire week? I think if we understand, like… fears, we can get a better idea of what the life cycle of Spooks is.
Roy Ambriz: ‘Anything? Heeheehee…’
Arturo Ambriz: Yes, exactly. It’s a very, very interesting question, but… actually, if we tried to completely explain it right now, it wouldn’t make any sense to you, you have to see it, you have to watch it happen little by little in the next seasons.
Ah, this question is really nice, Mansand Saga asks: ‘Did you have any problems with friends or family when you picked your career and to pursue your passion?’ …no. We happened to be in luck…
Roy Ambriz: In our specific case.
Arturo Ambriz: The two of us, specially, were lucky to have our parents, our friends, our family always supporting us. We specially got a lot of artistic stimulation- and corporate as well, from our parents, that’s how it’s always been. Our mom always made us draw, made us sculpt, made us get our hands dirty… I’m even exposing her a little bit here, but my mom would sometimes even let us skip school so we could go to an amusement park, or to the movies, or because- I don’t know, maybe even something like the weekend’s game got a bit too long and we wanted to finish it properly, like, we had those kinds of permissions.
So, it did help us big time to have that kind of help. In conclusion, if you see one of your friends wants to do this for a living, support them, cheer for them, because yes, there is a professional life for arts. Now, obviously, we’re aware that not everyone has this kind of family support, we have a lot of friends who experienced rejection in their homes in order to be able to make a living with this. But what we’re saying, the best message we can send about it is episode four of ‘Frankelda’s Book of Spooks’. That’s why we created the El Coco, that’s why we created Tere, that’s why we created these ghostly children who dance and make music, it’s because we’ve watched a lot of our friends and acquaintances get their passion stolen by the Boogeyman…
Roy Ambriz: And they just settled…
Arturo Ambriz: They settled, they dedicated themselves to something they didn’t even want to do, and suddenly it’s been ten, fifteen years, and they’re like: ‘Oh, my God, I wish I could turn back time and give myself unto the things I’m passionate about.’. So to keep that from happening to you guys, we made the Boogeyman and Tere.
Roy Ambriz: Play it for your aunts and uncles, the Boogeyman episode, when they get on your case.
Arturo Ambriz: Oooh, this one’s really, really good, only detail’s that the username of the asker is JICJ2442. They’re asking in Tik Tok, and it’s… ‘Will we see…?’ ah, we’re mixing our sources for the questions from all the social media, eh? They’re asking if we will ever see the Spooks’ world.
Roy Ambriz: Tsss… it’s what we want to show you the most!
Arturo Ambriz: It’s not so much the world, it’s the Kingdom of Spooks.
Roy Ambriz: Herneval’s Kingdom, y’know? And that of his parents, hm? So… that’s what we want to show the most. That’s where Francisca’s headed to right now, Frankelda, and, well, we hope we get to show it to you.
Arturo Ambriz: Alright, Camicatura is also asking when they’ll get to watch the series if they’re in Spain. This is a very, very good question. Look, there’s no precedent for this kind of series made in México or Latin-America, like… a stop-motion, horror musical, and one of such a high quality. I mean, it’s like a very odd mixture of elements, and there’s definitely plans for the international launch, so it can be watched all over the world, but that’s something we’re going to achieve little by little.
For us, the ideal scenario would be to get to a point where… where season two can launch simultaneously in every country that has HBOMax. But it’s a matter that’s not really in our hands, rather, they’re completely strategic on the part of HBOMax and Warner Bros.
Roy Ambriz: Now, if you want to watch it, you can write to HBOMax’s social media about wanting it to also arrive on Europe, and that would be great help, y’know? If more people around the world start requesting it, there are more chances that it’ll be authorized for more countries.
Arturo Ambriz: Great. Herneval’s little wing is covering your face quite a bit. Let’s see, you’re going to love answering this one, Roy, I’m sure. It’s: ‘Do Spooks only haunt kids or adults too?’
Roy Ambriz: They haunt everyone. Really, I think… children can get a better grasp of what a Spook is, and humans… they look for another explanation…
Arturo Ambriz: Adults.
Roy Ambriz: Adults. Like, children will see them as Spooks, and adults will too, but the Spooks won’t… won’t allow themselves to be seen quite as easily, because Spooks live anywhere you look, but you can’t see them for lack of knowing to look.
Arturo Ambriz: Great. This question is very nice, asked by Axel Imanol and it’s: ‘What was your inspiration for making ‘Tinta Invisible’? Honestly, I love that song a lot.’ Look, the lyrics to ‘Tinta Invisible’, like we said just a while ago, are a poem. It’s literally a poem, its inspiration comes from what writing implies, what making fiction implies. For instance, this line about… it’s one of the lines we like the most, it’s: ‘Reading, you inhabit the hidden.’ Picture it, right? If I have my ‘Harry Potter’ book here, well, it’s just an object, it’s like some sort of brick, right? A paper brick, my ‘Harry Potter’ book. But within those pages lies in hiding all of Hogwarts, and all of Diagon Alley, and it conceals… I don’t know, Azkaban Prison within. And it hides… the Weasleys with all of their kids.
So, within a paper brick, there’s this whole world, hidden. So, when you read it, when you read a book, when you read a story, you inhabit the hidden. Because, I swear to you, I’ve been in Hogwarts- because when I read Harry Potter, I picture myself walking around and climbing the magic stairs, and getting into one of the rooms… I don’t know, the classroom for Potions Class with Professor Snape. I mean, I’ve lived in Hogwarts by reading fiction. That’s what ‘Frankelda’ is about, that’s what ‘Tinta Invisible’ is about. ‘Tinta Invisible’ is a song that pays homage to the art of writing and fiction. If you analyze each line, it becomes very clear… well, not all that clear but all of the… the symbolism of what writing and creating something that doesn’t exist is hidden there.
Roy Ambriz: Here’s Frankelda’s ‘Harry Potter’ collection.
Tumblr media
Arturo Ambriz: Oh, that’s so cool!
Roy Ambriz: The books.
Arturo Ambriz: Where did that come from?
Roy Ambriz: Walmart.
Arturo Ambriz: I’d never seen it. It’s really cool! Ahh, goody. Well, let’s see… ‘Frankelda and Herneval’s personality, did you plan it in advance or did you base it off someone?’
Roy Ambriz: Yes… our task as writers is to plan out the personality of each character, it’s… when you write a character, it’s like you’re living it, it’s like you’re placing yourself in their shoes and seeing the… I mean, you’re within their perspective and looking at the world from their eyes. Counterweights start emerging, right? And Dramatic Orchestrations, as they’re known, start emerging, like… Herneval, you’ve seen it yourselves. Young Herneval with Francisca isn’t the same as…Herneval-libro with Frankelda, and it’s not the same as Herneval-libro with Procustes, right? I mean, he changes, depending on who he’s with. Why? Because that’s life, you’re not the same when you’re alone with your friends to when you’re in a Christmas dinner with like family members you rarely see, you only meet them once a year, or when you’re in class. It changes.
So yeah, each personality and each character has to be written, has to be pondered, has to be rewritten, has to be erased and… and raised again, and gradually discovered. And, obviously that process starts with writing but is run by character design, art design, animation, run by voice actors, who also permeate it, and the character is uncovered throughout all of these processes.
Arturo Ambriz: Very good. Also… that’s the thing, I mean, you guys can see that so many of the characters we’ve seen in TV or movies are opposites, aren’t they? And Frankelda and Herneval-libro, spending so much time together on-screen, well they had to be opposites, right? One of them is red and the other is blue, it’s that simple, I mean, it’s a visual-psicological-narrative codification. Frankelda is an optimist, Herneval’s a pessimist. Frankelda’s cheerful, Herneval’s a grump. Frankelda always moves in circles, her hair has circular curls, her hand movements are circular; and the book is a small square, and everything about him is a square, right? So, this is a good tip for writing characters, thinking about opposites, thinking about complements, thinking about the Ying and the Yang.
Next question… this question is Meru Chan’s: ‘What made you change Herneval’s appearance from the Pilot?’
Roy Ambriz: It was a… that’s a rather interesting question. As we’ve said, when we made the season as opposed to the Pilot, we agreed that we had to improve everything. And the Pilot- we didn’t really wonder about that many things because it’s a Pilot, y’know? Obviously, we’d gotten less time, and the top priority was to show that the series could be great, so what we did when they greenlit the season was to think better about the characters. At some point, as you’ve seen in the concept art, Herneval was thought up as more of a demon, but it was way too obvious, and it could also have religious connotations we really don’t want there to be, so, we decided to ponder it. He’s not the Demon Prince, he’s the Prince of Spooks, I mean, he has to be a Spook. What’s a Spook? It’s something new.
So, we started to ponder and around this time, Ana Coronilla, who is the art director, had the idea- she was like: ‘I kind of see him as an owl.’ Because with Herneval, in order to make him princely, we kept thinking and got- we were creating with the Awesombrosos, trying to make him more reptilian, or some other thing, and when we said ‘Owl’, it was like ‘Wow, he looks amazing!’ and on top of that, he has to… like, the personality we want, and that’s when we said ‘It’s just, if this were a live-action, he’d be played by someone along the lines of Timothé Chalamet-‘ not sure I’m saying that right.
Arturo Ambriz: Timothee.
Roy Ambriz: Timothee Chalamet, so… well, we said ‘Him, plus owl, plus some other elements.’ And, well, we got hunk Herneval, and then we saw the book and the character progression made no sense anymore, the one from the Pilot, because he’s more snakelike. So it was like ‘OK, how are we going to rebuild the character so he still has Herneval’s essence that we’ve already gotten to know from the Pilot, but make it make sense that this character turned into the book?’. And that was the ruling on which we decided to make… to change the Hernevals.
Arturo Ambriz: Well, next question, by AB_8A_7: ‘If Herneval used to be the Prince of Spooks, does that mean the King will show up in a flashback?’
Roy Ambriz: Oooh…
Arturo Ambriz: You’re getting close to the… the heart of the matter. Definitely, obviously, we’re going to meet the King of Spooks, we don’t want to disclose anything else about him, but… but props to you guys for realizing it, right? If there’s a Prince, then who’s the King?
Roy Ambriz: Besides, somewhere… well. Nope. I was just about to spoil it!
Tumblr media
Arturo Ambriz: No spoilers.
Roy Ambriz: But that’s the thing, it’s… how cool is it to think, who is Herneval’s dad? Why… why does Herneval have to go to the human realm? Why wasn’t he in the prologue? That is, why was he with Procustes and not his father? So you start to… to develop and sprout a lot of fun things…
Arturo Ambriz: Why is there an hourglass that’s close to the limit?
Roy Ambriz: No one’s talked about the hourglass, have they?
Arturo Ambriz: I haven’t really seen that much…
Roy Ambriz: Hmmm… go figure.
Arturo Ambriz: Anyway… well. This one was by La Reina Cuervo, who we’re already familiar with because we had an interview with her this week, real fun. She’s asking how much time Frankelda spent with Herneval before they got trapped. And that question, well, can’t be answered because it’s something we’re going to see in the next seasons, what happens during this process. That is, once they cross that threshold at the crypt, at the graveyard, what Herneval and Francisca had to do, how they got to where they are right now. For sure, it’s in there, this story that’s still going to develop further.
Next question… ah, well, this one’s really simple. 199501 asks: ‘I don’t know whether you already answered this one, but what are the three witches’ names?’ And, the witch who speaks the most, the one that turns into a hen, the one that sings, her name is Totolina. We just barely realized we never had them mention their names, but in production her name was always Totolina. Then, the witch that turns into a toad, her name is Tamazola, and the witch that turns into a rabbit, a hare, her name is Tochina. Yeah?
Next question… ‘Does Herneval have some sort of power?’ question by Blackroses.
Roy Ambriz: Well, you saw that already, he does, right? And… his power is used three times along the first season. We can’t say more, but he definitely has. Well, he’s the Prince of Spooks, he has to have something special to him.
Arturo Ambriz: OK, next question… ‘Why does Tere play the theremin?’. Question by Lagunas X. Look, we realized long ago that… the theremin is like, the musical instrument of ghosts. The theremin, in every B-movie in Hollywood where there’s ghosts or aliens, zombies, it’s like… a sound that doesn’t seem to belong to this world, because it’s really similar to a human voice. But at the same time it sounds like the mix between a robot and a… a howl. So, it’s like, hard to decipher. So, the theremin has this whole symbolic weight which we love, ever since we created this studio ten years ago, the bumper of the intro we had, which was the Cinema Fantasma bumper, you can hear a theremin. So, for us it’s always been like the theremin is the Cinema Fantasma musical instrument. Personally, it’s my favorite musical instrument.
So, when we started to unravel this episode which I’ve told you about a while ago, that we wanted to get to this big moment of the orchestra in the alley with the dead children and the Boogeyman dancing, we start to realize we needed, like… a character who wanted to make music in order to get to this moment, and we realized it would be very original to have her play the theremin, because we’ve seen a million boys and girls who play the violin or the guitar, even Coco and Book of Life have this, right? You can always look for something different to… to give the show a unique flavor.
Moving on, Yara Edith asks: ‘Why is Frankelda from Hidalgo?’ And, get this, originally, this was only going to last one hour and we’re at, I think, an hour and a quarter. Let’s… let’s answer a few more questions and we’ll call it a day, also so you guys can have a nice Friday and not just sit there listening to us. Right, so let’s go back to Yara Edith’s question. Why is Frankelda from Hidalgo?
Roy Ambriz: Because, well, something both of us really wanted to do is… make something that felt… a series that felt Mexican but by someone who actually lives in México, y’know? Like, for there to be these little elements no one else who didn’t live in México could have, and it’s mixed in with experience. One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to is the Panteón Inglés. I love it. One of my best friends hails from there, from Pachuca, but she’d take us… back in college we went a lot of times, to- Hi, Rosa, if you’re watching.
Arturo Ambriz: I don’t think she is.
Roy Ambriz: I don’t think so because I didn’t even give her a heads-up, but OK. But we traveled a lot, and we made a lot of- she’s a photographer. And we did a lot of photography exercises at Panteon Inglés, and it’s just gorgeous. And… truth is that when we were framing this series, we said: ‘It just would be so cool that she was a Victorian ghost, right? In this big house.’ And back at the Pilot we couldn’t really get into it, show it, how we want to break away from that cliché, I mean, she is Victorian, and she is from that period, but it’s not in Europe, it’s in México. Because mixing in with history -which is something we also love, like, mixing in bits of truth- it’s around this time that the British arrived in there to, well… care for and extract from the silver mines, they brought in a lot of things, right? Soccer, the pasties, which turned into pastes, and whatnot. We figured it’d be really nice if Frankelda’s house is European because his dad is British, but he’s a British man who fell in love with a Mexican woman, and Frankelda’s born from that union.  Why? Because Frankelda- as you know, well, in México we’re a mixture of the European and the Mexican-origin, and, and we’re not- it doesn’t matter anymore, to us, origin doesn’t matter anymore, just that we’re Mexican, and that’s very Mexican.
And so, Frankelda is Mexican. She makes her stories up with the mixture of things, of elements within her head, and what better place than… I mean, if this beautiful place that actually exists in real life inspires us, well, we wanted to also pay homage to that place, and even though it’s not exactly identical, it is a rather latent inspiration for us.
Arturo Ambriz: Alright. Now, Emily Delgado asks us whether we’re giving some kind of courses or bachelor, and, yeah, actually yes, we’ve given several of them. Next year, we’ll reactivate our section called ‘Cinema Fantasma EDU’ which is where we give our courses, bachelor degrees, workshops, conferences on stop-motion. That’s a great way to learn. Stay tuned to our social media, cause that’s where we’re giving notice. Thing is, between COVID and all the work we had with ‘Frankelda’, we had to put this project on hold, well, this whole year. But we’re eager to get back into it and get it done. This is something we love, and we’re exploring other options, really cool ones too, with a certain… how do I put this, brand that makes online courses to make a very specific kind of thing. Really cool, we’re working really hard, I don’t want to spoil that either, because it will be announced in due time, but we’ve got more options coming up so we can talk and we can try to impart some of the knowledge we’ve been saving up all these years by making these productions.
Roy Ambriz: Good.
Arturo Ambriz: Very good. And… I think this will be our last question.
Roy Ambriz: Last question!
Arturo Ambriz: Let’s see… I’m looking for one that’s real good.
Roy Ambriz: Yeah, close it up with some meat, go on.
Arturo Ambriz: Something that makes fans speculate?
Roy Ambriz: Yeah.
Arturo Ambriz: …there’s just so many good ones. Let’s see, for instance… ah, look, this one’s nice because it additionally comes all the way from Chile. Sent by Gabriel Beltrán, and it’s: ‘Are the Spooks’ stories told on the show based on real legends or inspired on something of the sort?’
Roy Ambriz: And, well… it’s a mix of everything, right? We aren’t basing them on anything specific per se. I feel like we’ve already seen so much in México, in Mexican adaptations about Mexican legends. Which is really cool, but it’s already been done, even in animation. So, we wanted to do new ones. There’s characters like, for instance- in the… originally in the pitch, back when we hadn’t thought so much about it, the witches… the original concept art is somewhere around, they were more… European, more classic, or United States-like, with the hat and the broom and the stockings. And we were like: ‘No, we want it to be…to feel more like… witches who have somehow been living around a lot of places in México or Latin-America for a while, and who, as luck would have it, right now are living around Colonia Roma maybe, or La Condesa, something to that effect. How do we make it feel specific?’
So… it obviously comes from, well, people- we can’t say ‘We invented witches, we invented mermaids.’ Or anything. But they’re more like… characters and archetypes we take and resignify to things we’ve lived through, things within our imagination, and things we want to see. Maybe the one that’s more inspired in an existing character which we felt had barely even gotten representation in Latin-America is El Coco. The Boogeyman, always-he comes from… our mom always tells us this story, we’d mentioned it a couple of times, but my grandpa used to say to her, because we collected toys, and back in the nineties they were all monsters and stuff like that, really cool stuff. And my grandpa used to tell my mom: ‘Why would they ever be afraid of the El Coco if they have that kind of toy and aren’t scared by it?’. So, this Boogeyman character, like… a bum, or, just something that’s not exactly what we have in the collective imagination, but we had that idea floating around, and, well… we decided to capture it. And I hope we can see more of the El Coco in the future.
Arturo Ambriz: Totally… well, I think we’ve reached the limit with this session. We’re obviously absolutely thankful to you, this is why we want to keep creating these opportunities to chat. We know there was a lot more questions but, think about it, we’d be here for five hours. We’d be happy to, but we also don’t want to ruin your Friday, so I think the good stuff has to be, like… like, in moderation.
We’ll also take this chance to tell you that we seriously are on the constant lookout for everything you’ve posted on social media- look, for example, I have a physical fanart right here, and it’s so cool! But trust me when I say all the digital ones, all the ones I’ve found, I’ve shared them on my Instagram account and I’ve been saving them. I feel like it’s like I’m filling up my Panini album, I’m logging in all the time to see what I can find and save it. And something we would love to do here in Cinema Fantasma, we’d just have to rearrange the space, is to print all the fanart you’ve made, print out all the fanart you’ve made and post it over a wall in Cinema Fantasma even just a small print. Because, trust me that, for both of us as well as the whole crew it’s mind-blowing to see you liked what we worked so hard on, what we toiled so much to make. Right now, we’re seeing some of the fanarts we love on screen…
Roy Ambriz: Just not Tik Tok because…
Arturo Ambriz: Uh-huh, not Tik Tok.
Roy Ambriz: Because we’re… on a different one.
Arturo Ambriz: But it’s not that…
Roy Ambriz: Look how gorgeous! Wow!
Arturo Ambriz: It’s not that we’re only seeing the ones we like the most, y’know? We like all of them, it’s just that we did a quick search right now and these are the ones we had close-at-hand to show, but really, we love all of them, and all of them have their charm.
Roy Ambriz: Yes, and they’re beautiful, thank you so much. We’re very, very, very grateful with all the Fankeldos and Fankeldas…
Arturo Ambriz: Or Spooks.
Roy Ambriz: Or Spooks, or…
Arturo Ambriz: The Owls.
Roy Ambriz: The Owls and the Writers.
Arturo Ambriz: The Quills.
Roy Ambriz: Anything you like, thank you so much because Frankelda is alive thanks to you. Something we can say is… ‘Frankelda’ is a celebration of fiction. So although there’s a… an official storyline which comes from us and Cinema Fantasma, Frankelda, the thing she likes the most is to be alive. So, consider the stories you make for her, when they’re in your minds, in your hearts, to be canon as well. To you, to the one reading right now, it’s real, because Frankelda is alive. So… draw her, write her, think about her. It's so nice to see it, really, we’re super thankful. It’s… this is the best possible present for us after… for the whole team, after… such difficult years in order to keep it afloat, where we had to, well… work so much, sacrifice some things in order to get it out there. So, this is super gorgeous, and we’re sending hugs to absolutely all of you guys and… an announcement. A fun one.
I think it should be up by now, a new filter that you can find, called ‘Frankeldízate’. If you want to turn into Frankelda or in… if you want to be real Fankeldos and Fankeldas, you can use that. Please, use it, it’s really fun. You can use it to sing, you can use it to write, for anything you want, it’s up. Start using it. Tag us, please, we love to see everything you make.
Arturo Ambriz: Something very important we nearly forgot is… we have a little surprise giveaway, OK? We have 5 posters, signed by the whole team. By the team who made ‘Frankelda’s Book of Spooks’, the Cinema Fantasma team. And we’re going to give it to the first five people who answer the following question and sent it to our mail, [email protected].  Repeating the address, [email protected], OK? First five people to send the answer to this question, we’ll get in touch with you through the mail to see about sending it. If it’s within México City, it will be through our messenger boy, our dear Arturo, but if you’re not in México City, well, we’ll look for a way to get it to you through national or international mail. OK? So, the mail is [email protected] and here’s the question, OK? And it’s: How… where does-? We mentioned it a while ago. Where does Herneval’s name come from?
Roy Ambriz: Go!
Arturo Ambriz: There it is, we went into it in detail a while ago, so if you paid attention, you can answer that question. And we’ll look for a way to make… make some other dynamic so we can give away this kind of things. Is there anything else you want to add, Roy?
Roy Ambriz: Well… please use the #Frankelda. You can use the other ones, they’re really cool. The ‘Que Listo Sos, Herneval’ one, all the ones you’re making up, but also use the #Frankelda on its own, because that way we can get everything thrown together and it’s like evidence for us to show the producers of you wanting a second season. Be insistent. If you wish, insist at the Cartoon Network LA and HBOMax LA social media accounts in your different kinds of posts, but use… flood them with requests for ‘Frankelda’s second season because that’s the only way we’re getting it. So, if there’s a massive second season bombing, it’s way easier, I hope no one kills me for saying that, but it’s the truth and I have to ask. So, well, I think that’s all for this session. If you liked it, expect more. We’ll be announcing the date for the next one along with our guest star soon.
Arturo Ambriz: Also, believe us when we say, as Roy did a while ago, if we can talk for a bit about what ‘Frankelda’ represents, well, we highly, highly, highly recommend for you to read. It’s never too late to get close to literature. We already made it easy for you, why not start with ‘Frankenstein’ by Mary Shelley? I’d be very surprised if you didn’t love it, truly, it’s fascinating. It’s a beautiful, philosophical, horror, science fiction book, it’s got everything, y’know? It has family drama, it has traditions, it has murder, it’s an incredible book. Read. Write. That’s something I struggle with a lot regarding my students, as we’ve mentioned, we teach in a handful of classes, and I do see sometimes how they lack… reading, and this is also why we were so insistent on the main character of the show being a writer.
So, well, we’re finishing up and, I just read a great suggestion and it’s that we should leave but first we should put Herneval and Frankelda together, and we should leave them like that for a minute, leave them like this for a minute… and leave. Thanks, goodbye.
Roy Ambriz: Goodbye!
Arturo Ambriz: It’s been great.

drawing designs for a gravity falls au full of fucked up ghosts, making notes for them here so i don't forget when i come back to them later
ford: researcher ford and portal ford that are stuck together. researcher ford doesn't have much going on, portal ford looks like he's ready to kill someone. they speak and act the same, but portal ford is always more passive aggressive about it. they can temporarily separate if need be but they start to disintegrate if away from each other for too long. they can also fully fuse into sea grunk ford, though he has a few. more body parts than usual (double jaw, six eyes, several arms, etc.) which one he looks like really depends on his mental state. doing okay = sea grunk ford. not doing the least bit okay = things get a little chaotic and he ends up as researcher portal ford.
note: the design for ford is based on. personal mental health stuff. don't worry about it, but y'know. there is a reason i decided to make him like that
stan: on fire constantly, fire switches between warm and cool colors for no apparent reason, as far as he can tell. he feels frigid constantly, so ford gave him his coat. guy's rockin' two jackets at once. the stan twins are on good terms! stan is a living aquarium of sorts, though an aquarium that has some limited control over the organisms that make it up. organisms have a tendency to switch up, but he always has at least one species of plant all over (and in, he. doesn't exactly need, or have, organs anymore). as well as at least one octopus, squid, or cuttlefish (species varies). there's a reason for it being those specifically
mabel: little sprite light bulb thing. red sprite lightning inspirations + hollow with a bright light emanating out. fully intact, she looks just look like normal mabel, sans the light. however, she is very fragile, due to her hollow nature, and can be broken apart rather easily. luckily, there's not really anything that would want to do that to her (at least not right now). carries around a large lantern (it was a gift) so she has a temporary vessel she can flee to if need be. she has no blood, bones, or organs. she doesn't bleed. when she breaks, there is no gore
dipper: i'll be honest, i've got nothing. every time i think of dipper, i just go 'hnn...deer...lake...' but i want to do something more creative with him like the others...already ruled out space as an option (if i was going to do that with anyone, it would be ford). considered going for a clone option, but. again, we've already got ford...though it would be pretty fitting for his design to be a partial copy of ford's. right now, i've only got ideas for the deer thing, unfortunately
unsure if soos, fiddleford, pacifica, wendy, etc. are in spooky ghost limbo too. might make designs for them too just for fun

More Echoclan cats.
As always, lore below the cut
Ripple She/Her (Top left)-
Ripple doesn't have a ton of lore. She was led to the clan by Starclan, interestingly, but other then that not much. She's invited two cats to the clan on patrol. She also may have some doubts in Starclan and worries about being forgotten. However I'm desperate for lore and a cat that joined the clan looks kinda look her so I'm considering making them be siblings (they'll be in my next post). (Also I love their design so much patterning like theirs is so pretty :) )
Ryestripe He/Him (Top Right)-
Ryestripe was originally a barn cat that decided to join the clan. It kinda backfired though since he was chased by a dog and got saved by the clan. Like four moons later he got kidnapped by twolegs and returned four moons later. During this time he brought back to the barn where he began questioning if he even wanted to the clan. All of the injured cats and dangers he'd directly seen or heard of terrified him, as much as he didn't want to admit it. He does decide to return though, deeming clan life better for him than boring kittypet life.
Sunnygrass She/Her (Middle Left)-
Sunnygrass is one of Pebblestar and Leapflicker's kits. She was mentored by Breezehorse and honored for her strong will at her ceremony. She helped save two loners being chased by dogs (Ryestripe and I forgot who the other cat was because I didn't write down their name) However she hasn't bonded with any cat, even her family, much. (To give you an idea none of her relationship bars go into the green) I think after an incident caused by her own ideas she began to distance herself out of guilt. She also has ghost sense so that could be relevant later.
Flowerweb He/Him (Middle Right)-
Flowerweb is Sunngrass's brother. He was mentored by Girly Pop, who helped him become less nervous with her more risk-taking way of training him. She often used hands(paws?) on experience to teach him, being an overall fun mentor. However his sister convinced him to sneak out of camp with her, ending with them fighting a fox and Flowerpaw getting a broken bone. It caused him to get his warrior name extremely late and have to spend more moons training to get caught up. He feels very insecure about this and like he has to prove himself. Like his siter, he's distant from most other cats. He doesn't resent his sister for the accident but wishes she would at least try to talk to him. Also he is the first trans cat and came out on the same day as his warrior ceremony so that's nice.
Rarity She/Her (Bottom Right)-
Like most ex-kittypets, Rarity doesn't have much lore. She was a bit of a brat but that's it. However she actually died in a flash flood along with some other cats, something that happened after I drew this. (I'll get to them with the final cat and the next post) Overall there really isn't much to say about her.
Skytalon He/Him (Bottom Left)-
I skipped over this cat because there's so much lore to him that I wanted to save it for last. One, Skytalon can see ghosts. But the main thing right now is that he was in a hinged poly relationship (I believe that's what its called) with Stemmouse and Fuzzyflick (Who was his apprentice and I didn't notice until looking at the lore document for stuff to put about him. However Skytalon and Fuzzyflick are not mates and had no feelings towards each other so there was nothing incredibly weird) However Stemmouse died in the flash flood and he took it hard. There's also the possibility that Stemmouse was indirectly murdered by another cat. (I plan to get into this one in another post but it is a cat I've shown before) He doesn't know about this by the way but I felt now might be a good time to add it on. He's also adopted all of Stemmouse's and Fuzzyflick's living kits and is try to bond with them and be a father for them since their other two fathers are dead (Idk if I mentioned it before but Fuzzyflick was killed by rouges). He also gave Cavesong his moth wing at his apprentice ceremony. Other then that, he used to talk with Stemmouse about herbs a lot. I feel so bad for him

Please write more of Elias and his bride! The first fic was so so so so good!!!! 🤧 please and thank you
Ahhh, thank you so much! Don't worry, even though Elias only got 2nd place in the poll, I do intend to write about him and his bride again sometime soon. In fact, I've started coming up with ideas for my version of the MC. I even played around in picrew to come up with a basic design for his bride until I can draw again.

Meet Coraline King, also known as Cora or "that creepy ghost girl." She comes from a big family with a lot of siblings, and is the third eldest child. She's had a hard time of it with a lot of health problems that have given her more than a few close calls. Her brushes with death have given her a tendency towards gallows humor in an attempt to not let her fragile mortality crush her spirits. She's also interested in ghosts and the occult.
Though she spent most of her life homeschooled due to her health, once she was old enough, she started taking a couple classes at the local community college. When she found out about the college's ghost hunters club, she thought it would be an opportunity to make friends with an interest in the paranormal like her and maybe lift her spirits a bit.
Unfortunately, while the club might have claimed to be searching for the paranormal, the members mostly used it as an excuse to make scary prank videos, especially on the newbies as a form of hazing. Coraline, being pretty sheltered, falls for their lure and is the victim of a prank they stage at the old Gallagher Mansion, which is rumored to be pretty haunted.
It probably wouldn't have been so bad if she actually got scared by the noises and fake "ghosts" they tried to terrorize her with, but when Coraline was only excited by the prospect instead of scared, the pranksters felt compelled to push things too far in order to get the reaction they wanted.
The end result was Cora getting covered in stage blood, her possessions scattered about the mansion, and her precious necklace given to her by her mother lost. The necklace isn't expensive or anything, but it's irreplaceable! Them laughing at her panic and calling it a joke certainly didn't help things.
It probably would've been a totally miserable day if suddenly the ghost club didn't just get what they were supposedly looking for - a ghost. Specifically, a ghost covered in blood with a detached head who was very affronted by such ruffians terrorizing someone in his home, particularly someone who said such nice things about his objectively creepy home while exploring it.
After the club was scared off and ditch Coraline, leaving her all alone in the house, the ghost of the hour, Elias Gallagher helped comfort her and found her precious necklace for her. He was amazed by not only how calm she was at meeting him, but even excited. She was amazed by him existing and asked all sorts of questions. The attention was actually pretty flattering, he had to admit.
Elias is shocked to find out that Coraline was there specifically to find him, the ghost of the tragic groom searching for love. She's so sweet, and he can't help but be dazzled by her even though he just met her. Surely it must be fate. She must be here to be his new bride, his true bride, so of course he asks her to marry him.
Despite his conviction that they must be soulmates, Elias is actually pretty shocked that Coraline agrees with him and accepts his proposal.
Creepy gothic romance and wacky hijinx with a side of spice ensue!
That's the idea for the set up that I've got so far anyway. It'll probably change when the game comes out and as I develop Coraline as a character more. I hope you enjoyed it anyway~!

Ok so people actually expressed interest so I guess I'll take a good excuse to show off my Neopets customs! I'm definitely not on the level of some really serious users who stake out the really rare items but it's still fun to make my weird cats stylish and give them their own little lore.
Thanks to the anniversary event gifting some free NC, I bought another pet slot and currently have 7!
Tumblr media
Dhanue (Donahue/Donnie) is my active main, and even though I know ghost isn't a super rare color I'm absolutely never painting him. Somewhere along the line I just really liked the idea of a steampunk ghost gentleman. He's a gentleman thief with a flair for the dramatic who pretends to be suave but is really a massive troll underneath it.
The only design change I'd like to do with him is finding a better background bc the magma puddle clips into this one. I found one I sorta liked but it's expensive so that's a future goal
Tumblr media
0grese was a lucky pound find a few years back! I really love how the robot pets look so weird and angular and gritty without the sleek casing on, it lends well to a slightly spookier aesthetic, I just had to make a her a mad scientist! Though she isn't a bad person, just very timid and odd-looking. She's actually a doctor that studies biohazards and diseases since she doesn't have to worry about getting sick or spreading it to other pets. She also has an unsubtle crush on my Draik but is too shy to say anything
Tumblr media
Batatiinha_ (Batat) is another not-really-rare color that I'm not in a hurry to paint. I think it adds to her vibe! I wish I could find a library background that was a bit more ominous, though. And if I can find anymore good gold accessories I might use those, too. I wanted to go for a Midas-esque vibe, with an obsession for riches leading to her obsessively studying dark magic and becoming more ensnared in it until it started altering her body
She and Dhanue go way back, with him often trying to rope her into heists. She finds him insufferable, but it's one of the few reasons she leaves her empty estate anymore and prevents her from becoming a complete shut-in
Tumblr media
I love Kaceae way too much, something about baby Aishas actives a rabid part of my brain. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing with her background yet, that's still a to-do, but I'm very happy with her little outfit.
She's, well...she's a baby! She doesn't do much aside from chew on her plushies and nap. When she grows up, she'll become a famous scientist, but for now, she's just baby.
Tumblr media
Professor_Giri is the pet I moved to my account with the new pet slot I bought. I traded a Krawk for her current paintbrush and I really love the dark blue, even if Stealthy tends to be more about the ninja accessories. So far I'm happy with her custom! Might change later, but for now I like the vibe.
Giri is an adventure archaeologist who studies tombs, and she absolutely does not know when to shut her mouth. She means well, though. She also knows full well 0grese has a crush on her, but is waiting for the doc to work up the nerve to say something.
Tumblr media
Weaclen was obtained from a very lucky fountain faerie quest I got during the festival a few years back. Getting an alien aisha was always one of my dreamies! I love their weirdness. In contrast to the space-age tech and design, I wanted to make his customization a little grungy, with garbage and Slorgs. I'm trying to trade for a few more Slorg accessories, either the raincoat or the little faerie companion released during the last festival, that's another WIP
Speaking of Slorgs, Weaclen can't get enough of the things! He collects as many Slorgs and Slorg memorabilia he can get his paws on, and my account's gallery is devoted to his menagerie. He's actually from the future, but an incident with a wormhole sent him back a few hundred years. He's a descendent of the famed doctor and roboticist Kaceae, and upon finding her as a baby, he takes it upon himself to care for her and raise her until she fulfills her grand destiny in a few decades. He considers it a massive honor.
Tumblr media
And finally Zekotah (Zeko) is a pretty simple custom that I'm nonetheless really happy with. Faerie just lends itself nicely to pastel and flowers. If I find any garden-related pieces I like better I might change them, but I like this general vibe a lot
Compared to the others, Zeko lives a pretty quiet, uninteresting life as a gardener, but she's fine with that. She's mostly nonverbal and hates commotion and being crowded, so she's perfectly happy to spend most of her time in the flowerbeds in quiet solitude. Making friends is difficult, so if you're nice to her and don't make a lot of ruckus, she would probably die for you

For the Meta OC Ask: Not sure if I’m allowed multiple but the ones I wanted to pick are #9, #18, and #20
Yes multiple questions are okay! Well wait let me organize my thoughts first—
Starting from the beginning (#9), I think she could fit into a couple of dynamics depending on who she's spending time with. I mean, I feel she's the one who creates trouble from time to time, but not because she wants to be troublesome, but because she just... failed on her mission of being normal. She strives to be the designated driver on a drink night out, yet she'd probably end up being in the top 3 of people who drank the most. She wants to follow the map during a roadtrip, but she'd probably end up lost in the middle of the mountains trying to find a way out of a field full of cows.
If you allow her to be rational, she will be (as much as she can); if you give her the benefit of the doubt, she will probably do something dumb or borderline dangerous. I think she's the "I don't like mess but mess seems to be madly in love with me" kind of person—you should be careful with what kind of friends she makes lol.
And I think that might be also linked to question 8 on the list, as I believe being accidentally disastrous is one of her flaws. I think it is something she cannot quite control, and as soon as she feels threatened by her own inestability, she will start losing confidence and making poor life decisions in order to free herself from her own actions. She can ask you to go to a haunted house to spend de night after watching way too many horror movies, but she'll probably regret it as soon as she's actually there and remembers she's afraid of ghosts. Moving to the next question (one you actually asked), I'm not sure what I would do if I met her, I like her gaslight gatekeep girlboss attitude but it's too much for me. I'd probably suggest her to go to therapy.
And huh, there's way too many unreleased stuff about her! I think some... might count as spoilers for some things that will happen next in my fanfic, so let me see what I can actually talk about...
Well, at first she was going to be more of a Y/N kind of main character, you know? Someone with far less personality and better adaptability skills in order to act as her System wanted her to. The fic was planned to be a normal, cliche-ish, not-at-all-deep love story with lots of scenes straightly ripped-off of popular romance dramas and some transmigration manhwas (the low-quiality ones I mean) so her first draft was.... not at all like what she is now.
In fact, in the fist version of the story (the Spanish one I mean), you could probably see how she was much more compliant and passive during the first, I don't know, 25-30 chapters. When I started translating it into English and rewriting a few (a lot) of scenes, I decided to infuse her with her own voice, making her a little bit more loyal to her final version, the one she naturally morphed into by the time I finished writing the story. The whole rivals to friends to lovers was quite bland in the Spanish version, so I made it a little bit more literal while translating it. I also made her feelings a bit stronger this time, more black/white if you asked.
Another thing I changed about her was her sexuality. She was going to be quite straight at first, but when I started writing I noticed I... simply cannot write that kind of characters. I said "why would she care, anyway? She's too busy doing other stuff" and in the end I wrote what I'm most comfortable writing: her being asexual and aromantic, leaning to the demi side of the spectrum. I don't think this is something I actually portray a lot in the story, not because I don't know how to write it, but because... She gives so little fucks about it that I never found a good timing to make her actually worry about it. She's just living inside her own little word, I mean. If some asked her, she'd probably be like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and move to other topics.
Well that's all, sorry I write a lot lol. Feel free to ask anything else if you want to.

(Maybe this when combined with the drawing you made will give you an idea what it was. Or at least something believable enough for Flowey. Turns out some of the formatting goes away though, so I’ll have to reconstruct the formatting from the copy I made. Also, somehow, it’s an older version. At least the actual text is there, even if which are italics and which are bold isn’t, and the alterations since then were mostly just the author notes, and a line from Yuri, which I can mostly reconstruct.)
>#We’re in agreement about the restarts, then. I haven’t had to restart at all since after the player left, but I wasn’t in the club at all then, so that doesn’t count. But now you can see why I’m trying not to get too close to them knowing, even if I can technically undo any mistakes as long as none of them get to the point where they have console access.
>#I’ve already mentioned how I was a different person in my actual first impressions. Then again, perhaps separating my first observations from my first judgements would still help? I’ll probably try to do literary analysis on the poems, and then “try and work out“ who’d make a poem with that kind of meaning. I actually recognize two of the poems as the same ones from earlier timelines:Amy Likes Spiders and Ghost Under The Light.
>#Also, you got all of them right this time! The meanings of the poems are deeper than that, but I suppose you wouldn’t know that. Except maybe Amy Likes Spiders. I’ll show you how you could have worked that one out.
Monika:Okay, I think I’ve got it! We’ll start with Amy Likes Spiders! Monika:So, this LOOKS like a simple case of the speaker being disgusted by someone liking spiders. But looking closely, there are clear cases of “Amy” actually being helpful, and the speaker clearly just crushing it off because… well, Amy likes spiders! And the narrator saying it doesn’t matter if they keep it private, or has other hobbies. So this poem seems intentionally designed so that we’re not supposed to agree with the speaker. If we were supposed to agree, those lines giving the very reasons why Amy liking spiders doing no harm, and the narrator just brushing them aside, wouldn’t have been a part of the poem!
Monika:So we’re clearly meant to see them as someone needlessly judging a nice person over a completely harmless hobby, even if that hobby is what might be considered “gross” in social circles. Amy even keeps it private, so nobody even has to watch her! And here the speaker is about to tell everyone about it!
*Natsuki is trying not to show she’s glad that Monika gets it. She’s… mostly successful?*
(After all, a clear reaction to an analysis of a poem could give away that it’s YOUR poem.)
Monika:Now, Natsuki has stated multiple times today that the point of this club is that it’s a place where you can act as yourself, and NOT be judged for it. That might even be why she joined in the first place… that is one of the things that were on the banners for the club, after all. So this seems like a moral Natsuki would really want to give. Sayori… probably wouldn’t have wrote this. While she’d certainly also agree with the moral of the poem, she just doesn’t strike as someone who’d make a poem whose sole purpose is how a certain kind of person is really dumb! That’s a Natsuki thing, with those times she used “dummy” today!
Monika:Now, maybe it makes sense for Yuri to write a poem like this? I don’t really think this would be her poem, though, Natsuki is a much better fit, and there’s actually another poem I think has to be Yuri’s. Speaking of, Ghost Under the Light!
Monika:I can’t say I know exactly what this one means. This looks like a case of worrying about the future, but it also looks like a bit more than that. The title is “Ghost Under The Light”, the speaker is living in the past, but taking air from the present, and is the one flickering back when the light flickers. Could the speaker be a ghost themselves? Also, it seems the place has been abandoned for a while, as if it became a ghost town.
Monika:There definitely seems like there’s a deeper meaning to this poem, I just can’t pin it down yet. I’ll have to think about it more later… But I’ve read into it enough to say that this is a Yuri poem! There is NO way that Natsuki could have made this, it just doesn’t fit someone full of energy and with a sort of blunt personality. The wording choice seems to be trying to find out fancier words, which is probably the opposite of how Nastuki does things, from how she’s spoken before. Similarly, Sayori wouldn’t have put this much focus in choosing fancy words, her style is more like… well, I think I’ll share after Buttercup does his guesses. Then we can see if he’s already worked out Sayori’s style!
Monika:But really, this reads like a Yuri poem. She’s the one who decided to be formal when we first stepped foot in the clubroom, after all. That puts Amy Likes Spiders as a Natsuki poem, which leaves Shining Stars as a Sayori poem!
Monika:I’ll get to what I think that one is about once the authors are revealed, and we start giving each other feedback. I know Sayori better than Buttercup does, from my time helping her with ideas for this club, and I’ve used a bit of that to help me interpret the poem. But process of elimination is already enough for me to say this is a Sayori poem. She’s the only one I didn’t already match a poem with!
Monika:And separately, it just doesn’t make sense for a Natsuki poem, there isn’t really a moral that jumps out at you, lines designed specifically to make it clearer, like Amy Likes Spiders does, and we already know how blunt Natsuki can be.
Sayori:Oh, that sounded awesome!
Yuri:That was… an interesting reading. I won’t comment on how well you did with the guessing, since Buttercup still needs to make his guesses. But the fact you found such an insightful interpretation of Amy Likes Spiders shows you’re good with poetry. I’m interested to see what you think of the other two poems…
Natsuki:And you were afraid you’d blunder it! *laughter* Like Yuri, I can’t tell you if your guesses were right or wrong yet. But even if it was all wrong, those have so much thought into them that anyone would have to be a DUMMY to think you did horrible!
*Monika gives the poem copies to Flowey. No, they don’t have notes on them, it’s just the poems.*
Monika:Just in case you need to read them again… Whenever you’re ready, you can start your guessing.
————————
(Well, looks like she did better than she thought. Really, Monika, your odds were much better than you thought they were, you weren’t a literature club president for nothing, after all. Messing up with Sayori wouldn’t be nearly as bad as messing up the others, since Sayori could easily just say she told Monika any details about herself that Monika used that weren’t mentioned in the clubroom. Just don’t let it get to your head or you might somehow mess up with Sayori, or you might try to go for Yuri’s poem and mess that one up.
(Oh, and I found where Yuri explains her poem in-game. Se seems to be interested in making poems that readers can get their own meanings from, as she describes “The Recoon” as a poem everyone can relate to in their own way. She might be a fan of the theory of the Death of the Author, where the main thing that matters to how valid an interpretation is is how well it’s supported by the text, regardless of whether or not that meaning was intentional by the author.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
I'll start with shining stars. This poem is about someone who has found something important to them! It seems to be falling apart gradually, so the speaker keeps putting her hope into it to keep it going. Unfortunately, doing this becomes more and more difficult as she grows exhausted of trying to keep this important thing going.
This person...
Is Sayori! As the president of the literature club, you must worry about keeping the club going. We were worring earlier about if anyone in the future would be interested joining the club, and though Monika participates in the worry most, it also is your concern if I get to say! That's why I was brought in to ensure the future grades will be interested in joining even when you're in college.
And Monika didn't even bring a poem, even though she probably does have at least one since she technically started the literature club and likes poetry... Oh well, it's her choice to be a scaredy-cat!
The spider poem is obviously Natsuki's considering how blunt she tend to be. Which I came up with this piece of evidence on my own, I am NOT copying from Monika's response! Although I did originally think Natsuki just didnt like some spider girl and not that the poem was trying to make the speaker sound bad on purpose, which makes a lot more sense. So I guess that part I was wrong about.
Building off of that, it makes sense Natsuki would make a poem about not wanting to be judged! One of the first things she talked about was how she brought manga before and was upset for Yuri judging her, thinking they're something like picture books for overgrown babies, but that's not true! Some manga are.... Heehee.... A little too violent for children.
Now for the last one. Ghost in the light has to be Yuri's not only because it's the last option, but also because of her sometimes shy, ghostlike nature and formal style of writing. This poem is about someone who dreads the future and feels comfortable living in the past. It's inevitable to be pushed out into the future which is why the light flickers, and the speaker flickers because it is unhealthy be stubborn to move on. This is why you describe the green-blue light of the future as sickening! Although I don't understand why you would have a problem with-
...
*Flowey stops abruptly. If what he's thinking is true, this could ruin the entire plan.*
(No. Monika doesn't exist In this world. Yuri can't be uneasy with her or Sayori for the power they have because she doesn't know. But what if it's like resets in my world and they still somewhat remember? It'd be impossible to explain to them smoothly without worrying them even more and ruining the entire club's relationship if Yuri is already distasteful of Sayori and Monika! Ah, but who would represent amber...? No one looks too brown-y or orang-y here. Maybe I'm overthinking it?)
Blue... Green... Why those colors specifically? And Amber? Haha, I'd think you'd choose purple to be your comfort color, Yuri! Now, I think what I said so far was a pretty good lead but I don't know your past or worries in detail so you should explain it yourself if it was correctly you that made it. After all, I'm here to learn more about my smart new friends! *Flowey hugs Yuri, smiling sweetly and hoping to make her comfortable enough to confirm or debunk his suspicions.*
I want this to be even more crackish. Dani starting out with enough ecto to fuel her ghost half? She is a newborn infant with full memories of her past life and completely able to understand her new situation at the level of a teen/adult (dealer's choice). Getting used to the new body takes time but her powers are under her control. Shaky at first? Probably, but she liberally uses her powers to make up for the limitations of her infant body and gets readjusted pretty fast.
You haven't experienced eldritch horror until you witness a weeks/months-old infant girl with lazarus green eyes float out of her crib and into the kitchen to telekinetically make her own bottle of formula. (The batfam is shooketh.)
Also, since Tim doesn’t go by Danny anymore, Dani can go by Dani instead of Ellie without confusion! And she gets to experience the childhood that being "born" at 12 years old caused her to miss! She's very excited about that, even if the lack of muscle control is frustrating and needing to get diaper changes is a bit embarrassing.
Tim is slowly regaining his powers, lagging just behind his new daughter (at least the first few months. Afterwards, he starts hiding how powerful he is truly becoming). Methinks the batfam might believe he made a deal with some demonic horror and got saddled with an eldritch baby, and raising her is slowly changing him too. They might even be worried that he's enthralled to the entity disguising itself as a newborn infant.
Constantine takes one look at tim and dani and nopes out. Not his circus, not his monkeys.
Ra's spies on the bats and sees Dani's lazerus eyes, and comes to collect her because she was clearly created with *his* lazarus water, thank you very much. He gets more than he bargained for. What he expected? Tim and/or batfam running ragged trying to raise and protect an extremely powerful lazarus-tainted infant. What he got? Full beat-down by said infant, who soundly curb-stomped him with strategic and highly controlled use of powers, despite being so young that Dani couldn't do much more than coo or cry.
Then Tim blows up whatever bases Ra's had that survived Brucequest, infant in tow.
Everyone is kinda treating Tim with the same gloves that they handle jason with when he's at his worst - except jason himself. I will always be a sucker for halfa jason, and i want him to be drawn to dani, who has enough spare ecto to help him in whatever way he needs.
Dani has to use ghost speak to communicate her needs, and jason just intrinsically understands her. He may or may not be the one standing between the bats and dani, preventing them from trying to exorcise her. (Dani thinks its hilarious. She's not a demon and she isnt possessing her body, so it wouldnt work anyways. Even if they managed to banish her back to the realms, clockwork would send her right back.) He's got the ghost empathy/ghost-speak to know that dani isn't malevolent, and that both dani and tim are much older souls than their (current) bodies. Without that knowledge, jason would probably be freaking out a lot more than he is. (He's still very freaked out.)
For extra crack, the bats refuse to babysit the obvious demon child (dani may have deliberately been a bit of a menace), so tim is forced to take her on patrol. Any normal infant, this would be absolutely insane, but dani can protect herself.
Tim traded his cape out for a specially designed and reinforced baby carrier, and dani has a bat onesie and an infant sized domino mask. Perhaps she even has a headband with little bat ears. (Dani insisted that dressing up as a bat was cuter than dressing up as a bird.)
She keeps herself and the carrier invisible and intangible during fights, but has been known to strategically reveal herself to freak out goons.
Rumor spreads that Red Robin is haunted by a demon baby.
Here We Go Again
Tim-DannyTimDANNY started down at himself as his mind re-organized itself. Memories he didn't have before suddenly there in his head.
A whole lifetime as someone else another teen hero Phantom, his other family, friends,growing up
The Accident his death.
Protecting his town
Fighting ghosts
Fighting humans
Dani
Telling his parent
Becoming an adult
Becoming the High Ghost King
He blinked, something was missing
What was wrong? Why was he here in another life remembering now. Both his lives meshed together inside his head, everything finally sliding into place until he could almost hear a *click* and he no longer felt like two different people in one body.
He was Tim, Red Robin who used to be Danny, King Phantom.
A flash of green caught his eye, looking up he saw a small green note
Danny, You will understand soon enough,as to why you are remembering now, try once more in your efforts, 100th times the charm or in this case Dani's rebirth. Be safe, gather your strength. Return home safely young King C.W
Looking up past the note he saw his last failed attempt at cloning Kon, stepping forward he reached out and changed the DNA sample now being his DNA in the mix.
Woah, Bee finally posted a new ref? This is unprecedented behavior! Code red!!!
So yeah, I finally FINALLY nailed down a design for these guys! As you might remember, the Friends were originally intended to have masks instead of the Dwellers, but I just couldn’t get it to work in a way I was happy with so. They remain maskless. (I’m not salty about this at all.)
It’s probably for the better anyways, since the dwellers are a liiiittle bit boring without masks lol. Info under the cut!
These strange half-robot, half-doll beings are known simply as “Captor’s Friends”. The majority of them are timid, especially around strangers, but there seems to be a second, much more aggressive variation, who wear ties and have... mustaches...drawn on...for some reason? Get too close to those and they could deliver a nasty punch! Although their “hands” are too soft to actually do any damage...
The Friends appear to be very connected to Calcite Woods, rarely leaving and always returning. It’s unknown whether this is of their own free will, or because they’re actually trapped within. Despite this, however, they are fiercely loyal to Captor, and generally make up 90% of her party guests.
Captor built the Friends’ bodies with the help of a couple friends of her own! Bow made most of the plush parts, and someone else made them custom Captor’s Rave Magnets!
The Captor’s Rave Magnet gives them the ability to teleport short distances :D It’s based on that cut Snatcher’s Realm badge! Not sold in stores, TM cannot be held accountable for any side affects this magnet may have when teleporting living beings.
The little antennae thing on their hats allows them to communicate with Captor from long distances, and can occasionally act as a tracker if one of them gets lost ^^
Dwellers are, as in canon AHiT, ghosts who decided not to become Friends for one reason or another. If you don’t remember, cherries are swapped with fireworks, so if Dwellers get too close to a firework they’ll light it! Don’t worry, they’ll be fine after it goes off, just a little dizzy.
There’s also some very minor changes to the masks! In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the fox mask is swapped with the moon one. The rest don’t really have any major changes, they just swap emotions like this:
That’s about all for these guys! If you made it this far, thanks for reading. The next ref will be another main character, promise ;)
HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO FLIPFLOPPED!! (+Massive Art dump.)
---------------------
We finally made it guys. Flipflopped is officially one year old. It's honestly incredible how fast time has flew by. To be honest, I never thought the blog would ever make it this far. I didn't think I would've even made Flipflopped after the failure that was Pigster's Underswap and me trying to set all these goals and put in all this effort into a take on Underswap that was going absolutely no where.
But after pitching the idea of Flipflopped to a few friends and family. They encouraged me to expand on the idea of "Alphys and Undyne swapping with Sans and Papyrus" and this created Flipflopped. I am so happy that I made a blog for this AU, because to be honest. Making an original AU (Roleswap or not) is alot more fun than creating a take on another AU.
I wanna thank everyone who stuck around to see the AU grow and become an actual thing. Without Randomguyed, Gold, Ms. Tyous and many others helping me out, this AU wouldn't be the way it is now. You all are amazing and thank you so much.
But you probably want some content to celebrate the anniversary, don't you?
Well don't worry my friends, for this post. I will be sharing to all of you some of Flipflopped's oldest doodles and pieces of artwork, some artwork being cool little concepts for the AU that are still used in someway today, and even some old designs that didn't make the cut, and I will be giving some context to most of them.
So here are the doodles!!
--------------------
Tumblr media
Ahhh. This doodle is where Flipflopped all began. The idea of Papyrus swapping with Undyne in an AU is something I wanted to do since I first joined the fanbase and it was just a year ago that I tried making a design for said AU, and this is when Undyne got her first design for Flipflopped. It's incredibly simple and kind of boring, but I did like the colors for the armor even though there purple armor mixed with Undyne's colorful body made the design a little cluttered. But hey. Nothing's perfect in the first try.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alphys had a few designs at first before getting the Flipflopped Alphys design we had now. The first image had Alphys's first ever design and was probably the weirdest design of the three where she had a BLUE jacket with Red and Yellow stripes on them with BLACK pants and also had Red stripes on them. Yeeeah I didn't know what I was thinking with the first design and ditched it immediately due to her looking like Classic Sans. Although the jacket in the first design was believe it or not, supposed to be there for the sake of making a Stranger Things reference... yeah, not the best idea. But you can see in the other two design ideas that I was trying to go with a more lab coat-ish design and the didn't work well either. Although. You can see in the second all the elements that eventually lead to Flipflopped Alphys's current design, and not to toot my own horn, but I feel like Flipflopped Alphys is probably one of the most fitting designs for Alphys is Sans's role.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see here, Undyne's design changed again to have it resemble her Undying form a little bit but the problem was the colors were still all over the place, but you see how this will eventually become Flipflopped Undyne's current day design. I might touch up on the armor to make it look a little less like Underswap Sans's design and look more unique. Oh yeah, and Undyne has a tunic on because it was supposed to be a reference to Link's tunic for Zelda.
Tumblr media
Hapstablook/ TonTon's design changed drastically because at first he was possessing a robot body like Classic Mettaton. I could've still gone with Robot Mettaton design still, but there was just one issue with Robot TonTon. The fact that there is absolutely no way TonTon would be able to get a robot body that would survive the test of time, and with Alphys not being the Royal Scientist in this universe, she wouldn't have enough knowledge in Science to give TonTon a robotic body. But I'm still happy with TonTon's ghost design.
Tumblr media
The very first doodle of Frisk and their design even to this day is inconsistent. Lmao. This is also back before I made the change to make Ruins Dummy a Human in this AU instead of a Ghost. But I am still happy about the change... also ignore the fact Frisk doesn't have a nose in this doodle.
Tumblr media
And here is Papyrus. He is actually very close to his current day design. The first time I showed this to my friends though, I didn't notice how I used Captain America colors, so they gave this design the nickname "Captain Papyrus".
Tumblr media
A concept doodle of how Maddie's first encounter would go for a hypothetical Flipflopped comic. Oh yeah and it also uses the old Maddie design.
------------
Unfortunately Tumblr kinda sucks so I'll have to show you more art in another post. But I hope you find these old doodles interesting. There's going to be a few more things for the anniversary so stay tuned for that. But for now, Happy 1 year Anniversary to Flipflopped. May this AU continue to grow and improve and hopefully we can get closer to having Flipflopped become a game or get itself a sprite comic. Thank you all for following the blog. I suoer appreciate all your support.
