A dream, fading fast.

There was a town where Halloween and Christmas were both spooky, in their own ways. We all know the spooks of Halloween. But Christmas... Christmas was where all the haunting of the frozen times was taken away to hide.

You see, there was a train. A wonderful, magical train from overhill and underhill, coming carrying gifts for children. But where did the gifts come from? Most don't look past the fat little man in red. But...

His workers are not elves, in this town.

He takes a tithe.

The children lost in the snow, their spirits go below to work for him, lost in a maze of precious toys with which they themselves will never play.

At first he only took in the children lost by happenstance, but now increasingly, he lures them. But somewhere in his new batch of workers is a living child, burning-full of memories of home. And somewhere in the world above to which the train delivers is a very angry mother, ready to rouse the town's graveyard if that's what it takes when she learns where children have been going...

jurassic park has a good philosophical message but unfortunately the only thing i ever take away from watching jurassic park is "god i wish i could go to jurassic park." like yeah it's a blatantly obvious don't create the torment nexus scenario, but this torment nexus has DINOSAURS.

MY HONEST OPINION

I woke up and apparently the moon was gonna hit the earth, but everyone was like, really chill about it.

I talked to my mom and she said: “Yeah, the moon will hit the earth in about three months, you still have time to say goodbye to the people who you care about." 

I was like "damn”, and then I said: “How do you guys knew before me?” And my mom said: “Its because we watch the news and you don´t.”

A Thought:

Have you ever heard the joking "welcome back to the land of the living" for someone who's been in a deep sleep?

What if it was *literal*???

Some sleepers visit the Land of the Dead -- traditional Underworld setting rather than specifically heaven/hell -- when they sleep. Possibly even with some form of ordeal required before they can wake, and/or actual risk of getting lost in there and going comatose as consequence, and the greeting being a traditional luck-ritual to welcome their souls home??? All sorts of shenanigans can ensue of course, both because of the actual threat to their safety and the likelihood of learning valuable and/or upsetting information from the Dead on the other side. Or possibly even getting mislead about Living-world facts by mischievous spirits?

It may have been done before but I honestly can't remember ever reading or even hearing about it, and I hang out with a *lot* of fantasy. The specific angle of the World of the Dead as a dreamworld-setting that can have feedback into Life for travelers between and those affected by them, where it is like, an actual culturally known phenomenon......

If someone wants to riff off this *please* feel more than welcome, just tag me so I can see if you post it on its own rather than threaded here!

Or if someone has found a fairly close version of the idea in existing media, please let me know where? I have a sneaking suspicion if it exists it's most likely to be anime/Manga.
