Nestled on the right side of river Gomti, this is Shahnajaf Imambara. This architectural beauty was built by first Nawab of Awadh, Ghazi-Ud-Din Haider in the memory of Hazrat Ali, the son-in-law of Hazrat Mohammad. - We visited this edifice in the month of October. If you’re anywhere in Lucknow, this place is easily accessible as it’s near the city center Hazratganj. - The vibes are fresh and peaceful here. There are houses around its boundaries and gardens where beautiful ducks can be seen quacking! - Location: Near Sahara Ganj Mall Recommended time: 3-5 pm Entry: Free . . . . . . . . . #misfitwanderers #solucknow #imambara #travelblogger #travelwriters #lucknowtravelblogger #historicalmonuments #monumentshistoriques #monumentsquare #lucknowigers #lucknow_diaries #lucknowiandaaz #monumentsatday #worldmonumentsfund #lucknowexplorer #simplylucknow #lucknowphotography #monumentsofindia #lucknowyoutuber #monumentsmen #lucknownawabs #up32 #apnauttarpradesh #historyisnow https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq9fyy5nGI1/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=j264swn35y9c

The Mortuary Chapel at Mission San Xavier del Bac in Pima County, #Arizona. The mission was named for Francis Xavier, a Christian missionary and co-founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Order) in Europe. San Xavier was founded as a Catholic #mission by Father Eusebio Kino in 1692 when Southern Arizona was part of New Spain. Construction of the current church began in 1783 under #Franciscan missionary Fr. Juan Bautista Velderrain and was completed in 1797. Following Mexican independence in 1821, San Xavier became part of #Mexico. The last resident Franciscan of the nineteenth century departed in 1837. With the Gadsden Purchase of 1854, the Mission joined the United States. The Franciscans returned to the Mission in 1913. Since the early 1990s, the #church has been undergoing restoration to conserve the murals and the building envelope itself. The oldest intact European structure in Arizona, the church's interior is filled with marvelous original statuary and mural paintings. The Mission was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and listed on the @nationalregisternps in 1966. In 2016, the mission was added to the @worldmonumentsfund's list of historical sites at risk from the forces of nature and human influence. This amazing mission only nine miles south of Tucson, is free to visit and tour. #az #azhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #architecture #archi_ologie #travelblog #travelblogger #blog #blogger #exploreaz #history #missionsanxavier #sanxavier #pimacounty #explore #tucsonaz #worldmonumentsfund #southernarizona #catholicchurch #nrhp #nationalhistoriclandmark #mortuarychapel #bells #chapel (at San Xavier Mission) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0M2LRWnN9X/?igshid=1v79drt7ioabm

Fasanenschlösschen The ‘Little Pheasant Castle' known locally as ‘Fasanenschlösschen' is an eighteenth-century hunting lodge on the grounds of the Moritzburg estate, outside Dresden, Germany. The building was designed by the Dresden architect Johann Daniel Schade (1730-1798) and constructed between 1770 and 1776 to be used as a hunting lodge. The interior spaces were decorated with rare and exotic rococo finishes, including painted wood and plaster, stucco lustro (a special plaster finish in imitation of marble), mural paintings on canvas, inlaid wood paneling, and painted and gilded ceiling stucco, as well as unique finishes crafted out of materials like embroidered silk, straw, pearls and feathers. In royal hands until 1945 the building was then used as part of a natural history museum until it was closed for restoration in 1996. From 2010 - 2013 ‘WMF’ assisted with the conservation of the castle’s interior wall coverings together with the ‘Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung' (‘East German Savings Bank Foundation’) and 'Sparkasse Meißen'. The project prioritised the conservation of the rarest finishes, which were in urgent need of attention. In the bedroom the original feather wall decoration was almost entirely intact. Surviving feathers were cleaned and reinstalled. In the Elector’s Bathroom a unique assembly consisting of straw interwoven with rows of pearls and attached to canvas backing with silver wire were also be conserved. Historic embroidered silk from the Chinese Cabinet was carefully replicated with the aid of comparative studies, archival records and oral descriptions, as little original material survived. Where the historical record did not provide adequate information a simple finish matching the original in colour and texture was substituted. The building is an ideal museum of Rococo interior decoration. #neonurchin #neonurchinblog #dedicatedtothethingswelove #suzyurchin #ollyurchin #art #music #photography #fashion #film #words #pictures #neon #urchin #schlossmoritzburg #augustthestrong #friedrichaugustIII #rococopalace #johanndanielschade #johanngottliebhauptmann #ostdeutschesparkassenstiftung #sparkassemeißen #worldmonumentsfund (at Germany) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBKyh-kgca-/?igshid=wqe0tdnfh8pd

@Regrann from @natgeo - Photo by @simonnorfolkstudio Pleased to see my work for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) featured in a new book, “AFGHANISTAN Preserving Historic Heritage” by the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme. Here a photograph of the restored Timur Shah Mausoleum set within a public garden adjacent to the Kabul River. One of the largest surviving Islamic monuments in central Kabul, the mausoleum of Timur Shah marks the grave of the son of Ahmad Shah Durrani, who effectively crated the modern state of Afghanistan in the late eighteenth century. The mausoleum was heavily damaged in recent decades, but now restored it stands as one of the most iconic monuments in Kabul and the surrounding park provides much-needed green space in a congested part of the city. Don't eat that lighter. Pass on the Plastic please!
Excerpt from an article I wrote for WMF: "In November 2016, I was invited by World Monuments Fund to discuss possible solutions to and methods for overcoming plastic pollution and other waste management issues at their work sites. In the process, I discovered many things about myself, Siem Reap, and Cambodia. My first week was largely observational. I witnessed the incredible restoration work at Phnom Bakheng and at Preah Kahn being done by WMF staff. I observed tourists and locals using massive quantities of disposable plastic in Siem Reap and at Angkor archeological sites. I observed the huge cultural event of Bon Om Tuk (water festival) in the city center and its utter reliance on plastic products. I also observed the daily routines of the World Monuments Fund staff at Angkor. Plastic is everywhere, and it is far too easy to simply say that it is bad. Yes, of course, with connections to cancer, infertility, respiratory disease, and many other human illnesses, plastic is bad. But strangely, this information doesn’t overcome egotistical immunity. Why? Few of us know, and I was determined that this be the focus of my work: to make information about plastic pollution accessible and personal. I also observed that the scale of plastic use is far too great to understand when our level of understanding is at zero. With this realization gained from the first week of observation I had undertaken, I shifted to research focused on several widely popular materials, including plastic bags, Styrofoam take-away containers, personal plastic water bottles, and plastic cigarette lighters. My objective was to create an understanding that would result in an elimination or serious reduction in the most prevalent and destructive types of plastic pollution." Continue reading here: https://www.wmf.org/blog/dont-eat-lighter-case-against-plastics Thank you World Monuments Fund
