Monument emblématique d'Amiens, le musée de Picardie érigé sous Napoléon III en 1867, nous offre aujourd'hui, après restauration, un décor unique en son sein, mais aussi de riches collections d'archéologie, d'objets d'art et de peintures. Par ailleurs, ce premier musée construit en France pour accueillir spécifiquement des oeuvres d'art, nous fait voyager dans ses souterrains par une importante collection archéologique, et par son rez-de-chaussée et ses étages par de riches collections médiévales, mais aussi par d'importantes collections de peintures et de sculptures. The Hotel de Sagonne, Paris. The hotel was constructed between 1667-1670 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart, King Louis XIV’s First Architect. In subsequent years it was enlarged and decorated to a grander scale to show off Mansart’s new social rank as the Count of Sagonne, following his enoblement by the King. The greatest painters and sculptors were commissioned to transform the hotel into something more befitting of a Count. The mansion passed through many hands over the generations until, in the 1980s, the first floor was occupied by the French designer Jacques Garcia. The escalating fight over racist monuments in the South

After the end of the Civil War, the Confederate flag as well as monuments honoring the Confederacy and those who opposed racial equality became more popular even as resistance to racial discrimination and Jim Crow segregation grew. Historians say the increased visibility of Confederate symbols was clearly meant to send a message of preserving the racial order. As James Grossman, the executive director of the American Historical Association, put it: “These statues were meant to create legitimate garb for white supremacy.”
