Celebrating Carol Peletier & Melissa McBride
International Women's Day Appreciation Post - Carol Peletier/Melissa McBride
Tumblr media
When Carol showed up on our screens – with shy glances, tentative words, timid presence, and kind gestures – we all sensed she was unique.
We all reacted the same way as her peers when she quietly participated in a naughty joke and made a risque confession about missing her vibrator. We all held that pickaxe with her and felt her catharsis when she turned her douchebag, abusive husband's head into marmalade. And we all wept with her for her children.
It didn't take long for her to show us why we rooted for her and believed in her from the very beginning. With an intelligent move and the flick of her hand, she presented a grenade – long forgotten by her allies (and the viewers) – and saved the lives of everyone around her before their journey even began. And she continued to be the one – the only one – to save her family over and over and over again. Even though she was the one who lost the most.
That is when she went from "something unique" to the most important woman on the show. Carol crept into our hearts with her sassy moments, unmatched wit, soft words, gentle warmth, quiet wisdom, and that mischievous glint in her striking blue eyes. Just like she crept into Daryl's heart. She continues to be the strongest asset of the group.
All thanks to the talented and luminous Melissa McBride, who honoured us by letting us witness Carol in her unparalleled love, sorrow, courage, tenacity, and intelligence.
Melissa showed us Carol in her most profound, fierce moments, which made us (and Daryl) want to cheer for her and lift her up. But she also trusted us by laying Carol down in front of us in her deepest, darkest, and most vulnerable moments, which made us (and Daryl) want to hold her gently and protect her forever.
Melissa showed us Carol's ability to love deeply and in an all-encompassing way. To quote Norman Reedus, "Melissa's eyes are a window to her soul." And I'm so grateful that she trusted us with her vulnerability and let us look deeply into them through all 11 seasons. Now I wait for Carol's story to continue, where Melissa co-leads, shines, saves Daryl's ass from "reinvention", and continues to remind us why we love her (and would fight the world for her).
Carol Peletier and Melissa McBride deserve all the goodness this world has to offer. Happy International Women's Day to these two women who are beautiful – inside and out.

i was just talking about this after being wrecked by the discovery that the little elf-goblin fellows my parents/family used to tell me warnings and stories about as a little kid are regionally specific, and that you can trace people's geographic origins by what word they use for "little spirit-fellows who live in your house". no matter what you call them (domovoi, kobolde, brownies, so on); for purposes of this post henceforth "little guys"
i think one of the things that i find frustrating about like, idk, modern animist revivalist movements is that very few of them ime spend a lot of time romanticising and spiritualizing human habitation. obviously, we as a culture need to think more about protecting and defending nature/the earth/so on, but like.
if you don't have room in your heart for making up a little guy who lives in the water heater, or who squats under your stove and makes it run 15 degrees off the programmed temperature, and thinking of him with the same kind of respect/affection as you do for the spirits (or whatever) of the wildlife you interact with like.
genuinely: what are you even doing. you are removing a source of richness and fun and whimsy from your life! like, pip @creekfiend made up the concept of "little guys who live in an airport (and are the reason it's so shitty to be in an airport)" and i already like airports like 30% more just knowing it's the little airport inconvenience guys doing that.
more importantly, like. genuinely: interrogate what parts of the world seem ~rich with spiritual meaning~ to you. what parts of the world are "wild"? what does that make the rest of the world - a chore? a burden? who has to carry that burden?
we're never going to like, "return to nature", because that's nothing and the concept of untouched nature is also nothing; we're always going to have some sort of human habitation and interaction and cultivation with nature. if you can't extend grace and whimsy and genuine and sincere meaning to human habitation, including its inconveniences and annoyances, you are making your own lived experience duller!
notably, most of these kinds of little-guy-spirits historically exist in the parts of human habitation that are partially abandoned, partially removed: haylofts, inside the walls, under the house, in the bathhouse, behind the furnace... i've been thinking a lot about urban wildlife lately, and the animals who make space for themselves in and around human habitation. the "natural" and the "wild" persist inside and around the edges of the "tame" and always, always have. if you have a crawlspace, there's a little spirit who lives there and he's the reason the dryer always eats your socks.
LIVE WHIMSICALLY.

“buffy ended the show single :)” ok but only because her current love interest just DIED!! (he near quite literally died in her arms! in sacrifice for her!) her last words of the entire series were telling him she loves him and then saying his name in admiration. she isn’t single; she’s a widow.

Some little doodles and inspirational quotes from Camille Desmoulins, Louis Antoine Saint-Just, and Maximilien Robespierre 💖
I've made these 3 cos I'm making some stickers for a comic convention thats very soon, and did the most 'famous' people for starters/who ppl following me might know from my comic :3
But when I have free time I'm definately gonna make some of lesser discussed but equally inspiring revolutionaries~

yknow murder drones did a really good job at feminism and like yeah it's partially because we get this awesome protagonist who's complex and has agency in the plot and undergoes fantastic character growth and that's great. like solid +20 feminism points good job protagonist uzi
but then we get all these women who are actual freaks who commit atrocities who have murdered countless innocents who are covered in blood and do heinous things on the daily AND BABY NOW THAT'S FEMINISM. +10000000 POINTS GOOD JOB GIRLS KEEP IT UP

the pathologic Kin is largely fictionalized with a created language that takes from multiple sources to be its own, a cosmogony & spirituality that does not correlate to the faiths (mostly Tengrist & Buddhist) practiced by the peoples it takes inspirations from, has customs, mores and roles invented for the purposes of the game, and even just a style of dress that does not resemble any of these peoples', but it is fascinating looking into specifically to me the sigils and see where they come from... watch this:
P2 Layers glyphs take from the mongolian script:

while the in-game words for Blood, Bones and Nerves are mongolian directly, it is interesting to note that their glyphs do not have a phonetic affiliation to the words (ex. the "Yas" layer of Bones having for glyph the equivalent of the letter F, the "Medrel" layer of Nerves having a glyph the equivalent of the letter È,...)
the leatherworks on the Kayura models', with their uses of angles and extending lines, remind me of the Phags Pa Script (used for Tibetan, Mongolian, Chineses, Uyghur language, and others)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some of the sigils also look either in part or fully inspired by Phags Pa script letters...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some look closer to the mongolian or vagindra (buryat) script
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
looking at the Herb Brides & their concept art, we can see bodypainting that looks like vertical buryat or mongolian script (oh hi (crossed out: Mark) Phags Pa script):

shaped and reshaped...
#not sure how much. what's the word. bond? involvement? not experience. closeness? anyone in the team has with any of these cultures#but i recall learning lead writer is indigenous in some way & heavily self-inserts as artemy [like. That's His Face used for#the p1 burakh portrait] so i imagine There Is some knowledge; if not first-hand at least in some other way#& i'm not in the team so i don't know how much Whatever is put into Anything#[ + i've ranted about the treatment of the brides Enough. enough i have]#so i don't have any ground to stand on wrt how i would feel about how these cultures are handled to make the Kin somewhat-hodgepodge.#there is recognizing it is Obviously inspired by real-life cultures [with the words;the alphabet;i look at Kayura i know what i see]#& recognizing it Also is. obviously and greatly imagined. not that weird for you know. a story.#like there is No Turkic/Altaic/Mongolic culture that has a caste of all-women spiritual dancers who place a great importance on nudity#as a reflection of the perfect world and do nothing but dance to bring about the harvest. ykwim...#like neither the Mongols nor the Buryats nor the Tibetans dress the way the Kin does. that's cos the Kin is invented. but they're invented.#.. on wide fundations. ykwim......#Tengrism has a Sky Deity (Tengri) with an earth-goddess *daughter* whereas the kin worship an Earth-Goddess mother of everything#+ a huge bull. Buddhism has its own complete cosmogony & beliefs which from the little I know Vastly Differ from anything the Kin believes#like. yeah. story. but also. [holds myself back from renting about the Brides again] shhh...#neigh (blabbers)#pathologic#pathologic 2

Had a seismic moment today where I completely reframed my outlook on ambition & started looking at it (in the context of seeing it in other people) as admirable rather than opportunistic to a fault
