The Struggle for Women's Voices in the Catholic Church
When Pope Francis made the groundbreaking decision last year to allow women to vote for the first time at the upcoming global meeting of bishops, many within the Catholic community viewed it as a significant stride toward achieving greater equity within the Roman Catholic Church. However, even before the synod commenced this month, the Vatican made an unexpected announcement that left many…

writing a paper on second wave feminism and the catholic church and going into it i was not prepared for the level at which people think the church is oppressing and suppressing women.
like girl where
is it. is it one of the countless churches named after. the mother of God. or. or the hundreds of female saints. or. the art on the walls. or the nuns who are the life of a parish. or. what. are we looking at the same thing here. it's our seventh Marian feast day of the year. later we have a whole day in honor of Edith Stein. sometimes men take the names of women. by choice. in their teen years. is that. is that where women are getting oppressed by the church

When we put country before party, we vote for a future that benefits all of us. Let’s make the right choice this November.
If you’re a Christian, this is also about putting God before party and before a man. Trump is no Godly man. Liz Cheney is very much pro life, but the healthy way to reduce abortions is not to create dystopian laws. These are laws that force victims of rape and incest to carry a child. These laws also inhibit care for partial miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and other medically necessary abortions.
Conservative Christians, we can elect Kamala Harris and advocate for taking rapists accountable, enhanced access to comprehensive sex education, access to birth control, and a better adoption system. Kamala Harris has already promised to enhance the child tax credit and reduce the cost of living so less mothers will feel they can’t care for a child. You can be deeply religious and pro life and still vote for Kamala and stop Trump.

kind of crazy that i need to make this post, but this is just to say: if you are not pro-choice, please unfollow me and if we are mutuals just softblock me. i have no desire for confrontation nor any desire to change your beliefs because they are unique and sacred to you. but i have extremely strong feelings about the right to choice that are rooted in and pivotal to my beliefs as a christian, and i find the so-called pro-life movement to be antithetical to those beliefs and more generally to the christian faith. i do not have the patience for the attitude of self-victimization held by the pro-life movement in any context, and i pray earnestly for all of you to channel your passion for the unborn into actually caring for the living who deserve love and justice.

Saint Hildegard of Bingen
Doctor of the Church
1098 - 1179
Feast Day: September 17
St. Hildegarde was an amazing 12th-century German mystic, composer, abbess, poet, philosopher, teacher, and writer.  She wrote extensively on theology, science, and medicine, and she left a legacy of letters, poems, songs, visions and musical compositions.  She claims one of the largest repertoires of medieval composers.  Pope Benedict XVI declared her a "Doctor of the Church" in 2012, which makes her the fourth woman of the 36 saints with this special distinction.

'What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? As it is written: “For your sake we are being slain all the day; we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered.”No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.' -- Romans 8:35-38

Something that never made sense to me as a child was why, when Eve was thrown out of the Garden, she now had to suffer ‘the pains of childbirth’,  like, why was that such a thing? Why did the story have to make such a big deal out of it?
17,000 years ago there was a sudden collapse of Y chromosome diversity, with no related collapse of X chromosome diversity.  The most obvious explanation was that groups of men were capturing other tribes, slaughtering the males, and incorporating the women into their own tribes.
If you think of the Old Testament as a concentration of the stories of the herders who displaced the hunter-gatherers, then you understand that what they were accomplishing was the first wave of subjugating women: taking women away from their mothers, raping them and dislocating them from their original tribe (now dead or scattered), which meant separating women from their traditions of knowledge. This directly led to women having terrible childbirth experiences, as they coped with their isolation and separation from health and care traditions.
