i'm a huge fan of Republicans, conservatives or however you want to be politically labeled choosing country over party. please let me see more stories. it's a brave thing to do this. even if you voted for him in both 2016 & 2020 but you changed your mind now, WELCOME. it's a massive deal to get out of any cult successfully & MAGA is no different. being filled with anger & hatred, & fear is intoxicating & honestly easier than choosing to do the right thing. i'm glad you saw the light.
check your registration status often & don't stop talking about Project 2025. they can pretend they're distancing themselves from it as much as they want but it's absolutely their policy. we can do this though if we just show up & VOTE. we got this 💙

When we put country before party, we vote for a future that benefits all of us. Let’s make the right choice this November.
If you’re a Christian, this is also about putting God before party and before a man. Trump is no Godly man. Liz Cheney is very much pro life, but the healthy way to reduce abortions is not to create dystopian laws. These are laws that force victims of rape and incest to carry a child. These laws also inhibit care for partial miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and other medically necessary abortions.
Conservative Christians, we can elect Kamala Harris and advocate for taking rapists accountable, enhanced access to comprehensive sex education, access to birth control, and a better adoption system. Kamala Harris has already promised to enhance the child tax credit and reduce the cost of living so less mothers will feel they can’t care for a child. You can be deeply religious and pro life and still vote for Kamala and stop Trump.

I know everyone’s being a doomer right now and for good reason, but it’s not like everything’s over yet. There’s still community organizing, and there’s still protesting. It may feel like we’re back in 2000 in the Bush era, but the world kept going after that disaster, too. Even if Harris won, there’s still be a lot of fighting and pushing everyone would have to do. Now it just means we’ll have to keep going 10 times harder.

Ok, EVERYONE NEEDS TO VOTE. I don't care if in person or in the mail. This election is so fucking important. No excuses. We all need to step up and get this done. I don't care if you are a registered Democrat or you are a registered Republican that is voting for Harris and Walz. If the latter, a huge thanks!

Sorry, My Country Trumps Your Friendship
Tumblr media
My two cents about this meme message circulating out here in social media land. I’ve seen it before but yesterday, I scrolled by it and noticed a former friend of mine added in the comments that she lost a friendship because of political differences. Her comment inspired this post.
In 2016, just as the political shit was beginning to fan the flames of hate out here, I befriended a writer who had published two nonfiction books. Not sure how we connected but I liked her and the books she had written, stories about forgotten women of famous men. That’s how we connected, our mutual appreciation for women who made major contributions to their husbands’ success but never got credit. There are many of them over the course of history.
She was rather quiet and since I’m not, I was able to make introductions etc. into my writing tribe. Gladly, I did that for her. Then, in the fall of that year, I invited her to be my guest at a writing event. The last morning we were there, that maniac candidate had captured the news cycle with some craziness he espoused, something sensational which national news gobbled up and ran with it. I’m not sure how our conversation turned to that outlandish event but it did and that’s when she told me she liked him and likely would vote for him.
I was stunned, beyond.
She is an #immigrant whose day job was teaching high school, mostly hispanic students. She was #white and sole breadwinner in her family. As I recall, her husband suffered from some form of mental illness as did her grown daughter. Their family had some subsidies from the government to supplement her income. Her family depended on that money our federal govt programs delivered monthly.
And she was going to vote for that maniac.
Our budding friendship ended that day. She tried to tell me she didn’t know much about American politics but she knew enough to appreciate how our government helped her and her family live decently.
Thematically, her literary interest in forgotten women made more sense once she expressed her support for that racist, cruel man. Victims often support perpetrators. there’s no explaining it but many do.
If you dig the White Sox but I’m a diehard Cubs fan, sure, we can be friends. But when your value system allows you to support hate? When your value system allows you to support a #misogynist, a cheat, a con man who had no problem sicing his #magas on our Capitol? We can’t be friends.
Basic value systems are at the heart of enduring friendships. At least for me. I write this without tagging her though I hope she reads it. I write because on that thread attached to this meme I’ve posted above, she said she lost a friend due to political differences.
She was right.
She did.

Wise Words Of Warning ...
Judge Michael Luttig first came to my attention last year when he testified before the January 6th committee.  I was impressed with his insight and honesty then … he came across as an intelligent, knowledgeable judge who, while himself a Republican, did not support the shenanigans of the party in the aftermath of the 2020 election.  Yesterday, I came across a guest post he wrote for the New York…
