Last year while watching PoA I had an epiphany. It was during the Shrieking Shack scene. You know the one.

I was like, oh. OH. These two old men are silly little lovey dovey boyfriends. There should be some good fanfic about them on AO3.

Harry might wish his kid would make more friends (any other friends, please) but Albus has it figured out.

His grandfather had three friends and died because of underlying negative feelings within the group (Sirius and Remus not trusting each other, giving Peter the perfect opening to betray them all).

His dad had two friends and avoided getting killed by either of them, but was frequently made a third wheel to Ron and Hermione. Half of books 4-7 are them stumbling through their weird heterosexual mating dance while Harry looks on like a man watching a train wreck.

He spent 12 years wrongfully imprisoned in Azkaban before being killed by his own cousin

Older brother to Regulus Black

Cousin to Bellatrix, Andromeda and Narcissa Black

He was tall

Did not have a close relationship with his family

Is the only member of the Black family to be sorted into Gryffindor

Although he later considered himself an "idiot" during his time at school, Sirius, along with James, were immensely popular. Teachers respected his intelligence (though not his behaviour) and girls adored his dark handsome looks

He put up permanent sticking charms off Gryffindor banners, as well as pictures of Muggle girls in bikinis and motorcycles and pictures of him and his Gryffindor friends on the walls of his room to emphasise his difference from his family and annoy his parents

The reason why Sirius and James hexed Bertram Aubrey was because of Dahlia and Camelia. Camelia and Bertram used to date but during the summer of 1975 Bertram cheated. When Dahlia (Camelias best friend who was also in love with her) found out about this she asked James and Sirius to prank Bertram to get revenge. James and Sirius never liked Bertram anyway and they got a large sum of muggle money and a years worth of alibi's for it

The reason why Sirius had short hair in the OOTP photo was because during the war he lost a bet to Frank and had to cut it short as punishment

the start of ATYD was so...nice, just a couple of gay dudes exploring their sexuality and the power of friendship as they lived through the best years of their life together with all their favourite people in one big happy friend group

Marauders cannon is so important.

But her me out - there is so much beauty in something collectively created. A bunch of people loving something so much that they chatter away about it, day after day, creating theories, mining gold out of a rock that is supposed to be explored to the brim already.

These characters are alive. New headcannons and character studies and art and ideas keep these characters fucking alive.

It is the same as living languages. They're dynamic, constantly shift and change with the tide. If these characters were written in stone they'd be as dead as Latin - frozen in time, which doesn't mean so many beautiful languages haven't been born out of it, and still live to this day.

That being said, cannon is also alive. Simply because it is art. See, this is the beauty in art: it is interpretative. What I take out of these characters isn't the same as you, simply because we have had different experiences in life and relate these stories to different emotions.

So we circle back to the flexibility of cannon. Wolfstar is real to me, might not be to you, nothing wrong about that. Merely different interpretations, taken from different perspectives.

What is my point, you ask?

Idk. I guess people should experience art on their own terms, but never have the pretense to think they understand art better than someone else just because they think that their references are better 🤷
