Everyone is talking about the parallels between this new chapter of BSD (Chapter 121) and BSD Beast.

Before in the last few chapters (Chapters 115 - 120.5) were compared to the BSD Novel “STROMBRINGER”— specifically of how both Atsushi and Chuuya had lost close members that they considered friends and family to a power Ability Users that knows way more about them then they know themselves and wants them to themselves for reason yet to be known.

But now in this current chapter though, it parallels to the BEAST universe with Atsushi and fear.

Here we have “Hallucination Dazai(?)” talk to Atsushi about how he never needed to be ‘brave’ or ‘strong’ to get stuff done or fight what he fears.

The chapter talks about fight fire with fire— or in this case fear with fear as “Hallucination Dazai(?)” directs Atsushi’s attention away from how scared he is to fight Ame No Gozen to save Akutagawa because it was way he had lost a great portion of his friends/family—to the now fear losing whatever now remains of his family and friends with Lucy and Kyouka still waiting for him in the ‘Anne Room’.

This fear turns into motivation that makes him keep fighting.

Somewhat similarly, this is also seen in BSD BEAST of how BEAST!Atsushi used his fear of pain, suffering and specifically Death to become the Port Mafia’s White Reaper.

And this is just my thoughts so feel free to just skip this, but I find it interesting that this is not the first time something like this happened. Every time we saw “Hallucination Dazai” previous it said the same if not similar things to Atsushi.

I get that it's in his head, that's what a hallucination is, and he has the same thing with The Orphanage Headmaster, and I know it takes Dazai form to guild Atsushi and that’s it’s a hallucination in his mind so that it shouldn’t mean so much. But after seeing the end of this chapter I'm wondering how this will go out.

Like all I want to see now are some answers to Atsushi “Who you really are” like my guy... what do you mean!!! Is this a hallucination or something else? Is it Atsushi’s Bookmark powers telling him what to do and stuff, is it Atsushi connecting to the Book with how much it reflects to the world of BSD!Beast or is it Atsushi’s tiger powers/Byakko talking to him.

I say this because Atsushi had referred to know what this “hallucination” really is meaning that it’s not what we originally thought it was/that’s it’s not really a hallucination of Dazai but something else entirely.

Or

Is it Atsushi finally understanding what Dazai had been teaching, what he is telling him, this whole time and discoing/realizing who he really is.

Looking into himself in the picture he made of Dazai to help him keep fight to finally understand that he has a right to live, that he doesn't need to be brave to fight-- that he always been able/has been doing this and that he should stop now because some rat drew some pictures and ripped some paper.

Having that anime protagonist moments of self-discovery and finding the will to keep fighting.

Guess we just have to wait and see. Next Chapter is coming next month, and I can't wait for what happens next!

On another note, it's a very funny coincidence that when I went to the library the only BSD Novels there were that day were BSD! BEAST & BSD! STROMBRINGER-- both of which i took with me and am now reading! What a coincidence!!

Writing: Things I Learnt the Hard Way #11

~Character Conflict~

Conflict is one of the biggest pitfalls in character-driven stories like romances. How often have you felt like one character flies off the handle at nothing just so they can argue? Be it jealousy, neglect or cheating, it always seems to happen shortly after the ‘will they/won't they’ has run its course. Every story needs conflict, so I guess John will get mad at Jane for being out late and they’ll almost break up over it... Or something.

Well, maybe don't do that.

Instead, you need to work on your characters themselves. Are they too generic? Are they too similar? What makes real relationships so prone to tension and conflict, even when the couple are perfect for each other? Real people fight because real people are different, no matter how much they have in common.

So here’s the formula:

1) Give your characters more rounded personalities, value and principles. This does not mean you should write polar opposites with nothing in common, it just means that people’s experiences will inevitably make them react to things differently. (This is crucial)

2) Set off a separate conflict- A traumatising event, an argument with a third party, pregnancy, illness, house burning down. Pick something that will poke them in all the right places.

3) Now, let your characters react to this. Conflict will bloom in just the approach they take in this situation. Both can have their reasons to behave the way they do, while still being at odds with the other person.

It's hard to write about two good people who still fight somehow. It feels like there's supposed to be bad guy but you dont want to ruin one of your carefully crafted sweethearts just for the book. Well the reality is that bumping into each other is human nature, especially under stress. With all the good intentions in the world, sometimes you won't see eye to eye.

The empathy you fell in love with might stop your partner from condeming peoples actions even when they hurt you. The adventous spirit that lit up your life might overheat when its forced to stay home with a sick baby for days on end. The trust you earned through months of careful affections might be lost in one moment of anger. The laid-back attitude that freed you from perfectionism might become bloodboiling when you need a situation to be taken seriously. The joy you became accustomed to might be hiding a million tiny cracks.

Use that. Let your characters discover every incompatibility and find a way to work with it. It will write your character arc for you and won’t have your audience wondering why the book is still going.

Linked universe X Epic: the musical

Legend should have known something bad was coming from the moment he showed up. He should have been able to guess what was about to happen. When he showed up. 

They were in his own Hyrule, setting up camp after a battle with black blooded monsters. Legend had offered to find firewood. That’s when he showed up.

“Have you forgotten the lessons I taught you?”

Legend knew that voice.

“You.” He spit out the name like a bitter tasting fruit.

“Have you forgotten to turn off your heart?”

He appears. A child. A small, blonde, child in a green tunic. His eyes were fully red and his skin was paler than a ghost. Anyone could tell this was a spirit.

“This is not you.”

He slowly walks around him in a circle, 

“I see you changing from how I’ve designed you.”

The child is directly in front of Legend, pointing his finger at him.

“Have you forgotten your purpose?”

The child shifts from a kid to an adult, red blood seeps through the green tunic he is wearing. 

“Let me remind you.”

Legend could feel the ground beneath him giving in and letting him fall into the great abyss. When he lands, he lands next to another spirit, one who looks like Warriors with a red scarf.

“Spirit of heroes,”

“Master of war,”

He holds up a sword. Similar to the master sword, but very, very different.

“My life has one mission…”

The spirit thrusts the sword forward, and a path of heroes appears behind him. Legend recognizes a few. Sky, Four, Time, Wind, Twilight, himself, Hyrule, and Warriors. The rest he does not know.

“Create the greatest warrior~”

Above him, the sky cracks. Falling through those cracks were books.

 “I had a challenge, a test of skill,”

All those books flew together and created a silhouette of a familiar pig. 

Ganon.

“An accursed boar only the best could kill,”

Pages from the remaining books flew together and formed another silhouette.

Him.

Younger him to be more specific.

“One day a boy came for the thrill,”

It drew its sword…

“A boy whose mind rivaled the boar’s own will.”

…and thrust it skywards.

“Maybe one day he’ll follow me, and we’ll make a greater tomorrow,”

Legend watched the recreation of his first Ganon fight.

“Then they’ll see I know he’ll change the world, cause he is a warrior or the mind,”

It ended.

“Maybe one day I’ll reach him…”

“And we can build his skills as I teach him. If there’s a problem, he’ll have the answer,”

The books flew towards the cracks in the ceiling and mended them.

“He is a warrior of the mind~”

Shadows seeped from the ground; creating a forest. A young boy was running through that forest when he came to a halt.

“Show yourself, I know you're watching me, show yourself…”

“…”

“…I can see you?”

Another person appeared.

“How can you see through my spell?”

The young boy flinched and turned around, to where the other person was standing.

“Haha! I was lying, and you fell for my bluff! Hehehehe!”

Opposite from him, the person smirked and stepped towards him.

“Well done, enlighten me, what’s your name?”

“You first and maybe I’ll do the same.”

“Nice try, but two can play this game.”

He smirked back.

“Nah, don’t be modest, I know you're a spirit, so let’s be honest…”

“You are the heroes spirit,”

The man does not flinch. If he did not have as much control he would have.

“Badass in the arena, unmatched, witty, and king of, the best heroes we’ve seen,”

“If you're looking for a mentor, I’ll make sure your time’s well-spent.”

The boy does finger guns.

“Sounds like a plan, spirit and man, bestest of friends!”

“We’ll see where it ends,”

“Okay.”

Maybe one day they’ll follow me…

Legend sees the events of his other adventures.

And we’ll make a greater tomorrow…

Every moment

Then they’ll see I know we'll change the world 

Every victory 

Cause we are the warriors of the mind

Every loss

Maybe one day we’ll reach them 

And every end

And we can build their skills as we teach them

If there’s a problem we’ll have the answer 

We are the 

Warriors of the mind

Time returns to the present, and the hero's spirit is towering over Legend. He grips his shirt and tugs it towards his face.

“I still intend to make sure you don’t fall behind,”

The hero's spirit pushes him to the ground. 

“Don’t forget that you're a warrior of a very special kind.”

He points his sword skyward.

“You are a warrior of the mind.”

Legend is now standing back in the forest where he was instructed to collect firewood.

“Don’t disappoint me…”

A voice leaves that instruction in his head. Legend returns to camp.

“You good?” Wind, who is sitting on a log by the fire, glances up at Legend with concern. He was gone an awful while, long enough for Wild to forget that he was supposed to grab the firewood and gather some himself.

“I'm fine, sailor.” Wind didn’t buy that for a second, but he also didn’t want to push. So he didn’t. Everyone dug into dinner.

First watch was given to Legend. He volunteered for it as an excuse to not fall asleep. Their veteran did not want to take the risk of another godly encounter. That’s exactly why it’s his fault when a blue portal swallows their group and spits them out on an island in an unfamiliar land.

What would the shorts be in your AU? I think it be a live demonstration of how someone (Mr meteor) is integrated into the hivemind and how it's "safe" and "the right thing to do"- basically propaganda. but things keep messing up

wander's not like. super public with the cult the way hater is with his empire in the show, so i don't know whether he'd be airing something like that across the galaxy. hater's got like. totally negative charisma, especially when he's being recorded, and yet he continues recording himself, and i think that's a trait meteor would still share with him. mr meteor is very much like metroman of megamind to me, also, where he quits his life of fame & glory to become a nobody, but he still has that streak of like. craving the kind of attention a rockstar gets as opposed to the superhero/king treatment.

so i imagine the shorts would be like. meteor's vlogs on his youtube or something. and he's starting a series called Inside Planet Yonder or whatever where he sets up a camera in an unassuming place and does little dances for the camera until he gets caught. like a prank show or something, but very benign and mildly annoying as opposed to antagonistic. this does require the shorts to take place before wander is redeemed, but honestly, the timeline in this au is so scrambled when you try to put it up against the show itself (which is already crammed into two very short seasons) anyway

Ngl, tyraxes color scheme did caught me by surprise. My theories for his coloring before HotD were either blue or orange, and after Hotd, I thought perhaps a dark maroonish/brownish color almost black (because I saw someone saying that they had a parallel going on with Dany's dragons). Either way, I'm glad that we finally have a purple dragon!

Listening to Drumnidor as a Hadrian girlie is not easy. My god they're assassinating his entire character and taking away his life purpose right in front of us! They're reducing him to a stupid comic relief character with no depth and no real influence on the people around him (to a greater degree than they ever did before) and they're taking away all his greatest achievements and attributing them to someone else to fit the plot! His main character status has been revoked and he's now apparently merely a supporting character in someone else's story. Please, everyone, a moment of silence for my blorbo 😔🙏 Rest in peace mr. Blackwater. At least they let you pull some impressive-arse sword moves, you looked really cool... but I am so sorry they did not let you be a practising hoe in this one 🥀

Alright, idk how many followers I have, how much reach those people have, or how many people actually read (but this is tumblr. Fandom central basically. I think people probably read here). There is a book I need people to find. Well actually there's 3 books in the universe, but I'll be talking about the first one I read, Mark of the Dragonfly by Jaleigh Johnson.

I first read it in 6th grade, and it made enough of an impression for me to re-read two times after that which a much more developed brain than a sith grader (as in there is a significant amount of years between first, second, and third reading), and it is magic and steampunk and action galore. It's a third person POV which (mostly) follows Piper on a journey through a pretty awesome land, either (imo/ by theory) earth adjacent or in the future, with found family and worldbuilding and. It hooked me very well both times I read it; the pacing is impeccable, and although I've read it thrice (the second time quite recently) and it's been on my mind for two days, I cannot think of any plot holes (don't quote me on that though, sometimes my analyzing skills are not. Up To Par). It's been readily on my mind in the years between the first and third reading, and it deserves a bigger fandom/general knowledge of its existence.

The magic system is loose, with a few defined rules, but the structure around it and how it's used by the author to further the plot are exquisite, and the plot twists which come with it don't feel odd or cheap. Magic is also (sort of) ingrained with the technology/organisms of the world, so there's definitely no shortage of magic.

The found family, chefs kiss it's beautiful. I'll preface that there's a bit of a romance plot within it but tbh it never really commits to it, so imo you can ignore it and say they're close friends ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯ The way the main pov character finds the other main character and then they both get like, adopted into a healthy environment with proper support and resources and. Ough.

Anyway I have feelings for this book and I think other people should too!!!!

Tw though cuz the beginning has a bad (non-lethal) head injury and somewhere in the middle there's like, an attempted kidnapping. I stress attempted.

Tl;dr Mark of the Dragonfly by Jaleigh Johnson is awesome and you should read it because it deserves a bigger audience
