going INSANE. what is he thinking. why did he say this. why does he do all of this. i am thinking so hard.
we know he's seeking arceus to recreate the world bc in his eyes the world is cruel and unjust and it needs to be destroyed and remade. he's set himself on a mission to create the better reality he's envisioned for his whole life.
but everything else he does. the way he spends his time on pasio making people smile with togepi. even if he justifies it as something purely transactional to get more customers, we know he doesn't really take his merchant job seriously. the way he loves his pokemon so much that they will pop out of their pokeball to excitedly tell whoever will listen how much they love volo back. him trying to capture these moments of happiness tangibly because they never last long and can be wiped away any second.
he still hangs onto hope so much despite what's implied to have happened to him. in spite of all the anger and bitterness that's festered in him, he doesn't really want to destroy everything as he says.
it all started with a wish for the world to be a better place, for the good in the world to outweigh all the cruelty. he's still trying to spread what happiness he can.
but at the same time his past drags behind him and reminds him that he can't afford to trust in the goodness of the world.
that self-assigned mission to usurp arceus's power and rewrite everything.. to him, it's his duty now. he has to do it for himself and, as he rationalizes to himself, for the world.
so he ignores the flaws and holes he finds in his own reasoning. he can't help but seek out the brightness and happiness and goodness that does exist in the world, yet he has to dismiss it to justify his goals.
... all this to try and explain to myself why volo's asking all these questions and making all these comments that seem to go against what we'd expect given his ulterior motive and plans. and it's like he's asking the few friends he has to remember him as the one who seeks joy, even when he does the worst to fulfill his dreams

"There is no true self inside the self. There is only the conflict of the will and how we decide to resolve it. It is human to reach for security in a time of unknowing. It is human to hope for a sense of direction in a time of uncertainty. Maintaining this inner friction of the will is the means to freedom, no matter how uncomfortable and frustrating it might seem at times. No matter how much we would just like someone else to decide for us, even occasionally. Because beyond the question of the self, what Arendt saw in Heidegger’s lonely concept of authenticity was an understanding of Being that was world-denying. For him, the freedom of authenticity could only be experienced alone, away from the world of being with others, whereas for Arendt we are never alone, even when we are alone by ourselves."
- Samantha Rose Hill, from "Beyond authenticity." Aeon, 18 July 2024.

Saw this prompt for incorrect OC quotes and couldn't resist with a bunch of my Breach goobers. Some of them would absolutely say these things word for word in canon if I gave them half the chance to, though. XD
They're in order of when they showed up in person - Qīng, Ghost, Red, Marisol, Shio, Cam, Daruk, Tawoos, and Alondra - as well as some important honorable mentions who have only been mentioned or gotten dialogue - Star, Blake, and Creation.
Star's design is a slight spoiler, I suppose, but it doesn't reveal if they're human or impostor, so it's all good. Creation's "design" also isn't a spoiler at all, because They can look however They want, LOL. As for Shio...some of you who have seen the body horror I've done of them may be wondering why they look so normal here, but I promise there are Reasons. :3c
In other news, will I be making a liar out of Shio in an upcoming Breach canon divergence? ..........Maybe~ >:3c
#original characters#breach#among us#(technically lol)#look i even revealed what their colors would be - as if it wasn't already patently obvious#aside from creation but - uh - ignore them (trust me it's better this way)#meanwhile qīng's color isn't even available which is a Damn Shame#there needs to be a sky blue already ffs#cyan ain't cutting it#if it were an actual lobby qīng would waffle so hard between blue and cyan and would miss his chance to pick either XD#the closest quote to canon is cam's because she REALLY wants a different job and she'll take yours in a fucking HEARTBEAT#meanwhile the closest quote to BECOMING canon is creation's and it is taking all of my willpower to resist their insistence that i allow it#the most incorrect quote of all is definitely blake's - he is so mad at me for drawing this and calling out how he feels about his old job#the biggest lie here is red's - he absolutely thinks about breaking rules and does it a lot more than he'd like to admit#someone give poor tawoos a fucking break - they didn't ask for this#i promise that marisol is more than The Bitchy Sunflower Girl - just give her some time - i promise#alondra has other aspects too but she would be weirdly offended if you tried to assure her that she's more than just Squeaky Mouse Girl#if daruk ever had to go to anger management he would accidentally incite a rage riot just like dan did in that episode of dan vs#ghost i'm sorry but your fashion sense is incomprehensible and i don't even know how i come up with half the stuff i put you in#did blake steal the jacket off of crinklytinfoil's pink/chase from the skeld? absolutely not - he borrowed it cuz those two would be BUDS#these tags are ridiculous#ok im done now

WARNING: AHSOKA SPOILERS
My thoughts on Sabine being Force-sensitive are...complicated.
So it seems like the implication is indeed that anybody could train themselves to use the Force, regardless of innate ability, through sheer discipline and willpower. I don't like that, but I might have been willing to begrudgingly accept it if they committed to it.
Sabine is badass, I loved her in Rebels and I love her in Ahsoka, but is she really so determined as to be able to use the Force without being born Force-sensitive? They haven't really shown her being that dedicated. They've shown her trying a couple times, for a few seconds. If you're going to tell me that Sabine, by sheer force of will alone, is able to do this, then show me. Show Sabine staying awake for days on end training until she collapses from exhaustion, show her being really, truly, maybe a little insanely, dedicated.
Because what we've got now is an implication that somehow other characters aren't Force-sensitive because they just don't have the self-discipline and willpower, and, well...is Chewbacca undisciplined? Is Han? Jyn? Cassian? Maarva? Mon? And of course, you knew I was gonna bring him up, Hux? If all it takes to make yourself Force-sensitive is sheer dedication and willpower, then...well, now, no character has an "excuse" for not being Force-sensitive.
Yes, I know that it's always been canon that every living thing is connected with the Force, but being able to consciously wield it has always been something that select people are innately able to do and everyone else isn't. Making it simply a matter of discipline, making it so that even someone whose innate Force-sensitivity "falls short of every Jedi padawan ever" can train herself to wield the Force effectively, makes lack of Force-sensitivity a personal failing and opens a ton of plot holes.
Not to mention, there are many Force users who are...not exactly "disciplined." Kylo Ren is one of the most powerful Force users in the current canon, and he is the exact opposite of disciplined. A big part of Anakin's whole problem that led to his downfall was lack of self-control. Ventress isn't one of the more powerful Force users, but she definitely is not disciplined. So, if mastery of the force is now a matter of self-discipline rather than innate ability, that raises some serious character questions.
We already had an explanation for why some people can use the Force and others can't. I know not everyone was fond of the midichlorians as a plot device, but they were canon, and they did offer a real explanation that didn't turn Force-sensitivity into a personal victory. It allowed for bad people to be able to use the Force and good people to be unable to do so.
Being able to use the Force should have stayed an innate ability you're born with or born without.

I believe that D9 is sentient.
Sidious is already recorded as deliberately programming the battle droids to feel pain. I believe he does acknowledge droid sentience and fosters it, if only to sadistically torture the creature. In fact, one could say his greatest little droid box that he likes to torment is his prized final apprentice.
Now, despite the fact that droid sentience is relatively canon, Star Wars has a bad habit of also believing that the droids are disposable. Maul as well. He is a monster in the little kids show, and that makes him by default a non-entity.
If she is sentient, then they can both be characters on that knife's edge; treated by all as if they are a thing, because the sanctity of their personhood is offered to the viewer as negotiable.
