Illtud Evans was born John Alban Evans on the 16th of July, 1913. His parents, Catherine and David Spencer Evans, a postmaster, were Welsh-speaking Nonconformists.
Though born in Chelsea, he went to Towyn Grammar School then St David's College, Lampeter (now the Lampeter campus of University of Wales, Trinity Saint David). However, he was expelled in 1934 for homosexuality - for attempting 'to induce a fellow-student to commit an act of gross immorality.'
He became a journalist then converted to Roman Catholicism and became Dom Illtud Evans of the Dominican Order. He became editor of 'Blackfriars' and 'New Blackfriars' journals and wrote for newspapers and magazines like 'Time and Tide' (a feminist magazine started by Lady Rhondda, which became more political and Christian after her death - though it also had become more right-wing with her changing views).
In the 1960s, he moved to the US, living in New York and California and visited prisons and rehabilitation centers as a priest.
Illtud Evans died on the 22nd of July, 1972 in Athens, having left the US in 1970 after a stroke.
Following his death, his friend Cliff Tucker began a campaign for Illtud Evans' exoneration and posthumous graduation, along with his partner Tony Dyson. They were both gay rights campaigners, Cliff Tucker having also gone to Lampeter University, giving his name to their Cliff Tucker Theatre. Cliff Tucker was successful and Illtud Evans was awarded his degree posthumously.

1st November
All Saints’ Day/ St Cadfan’s Day
Tumblr media
Source: Derek Stafford / Mystical Times Blog website
Today is All Saints’ Day, a celebration of all deceased saints, a barely concealed Christianisation of the pagan feast of the dead. It is also St Cadfan’s Day who is known today only by his supposed tomb, known as Cadfan’s Stone at the church in Towyn near Rhyl.
There are ghostly happenings this day too. Sir Jocelyn Joyce rides his horse round the grounds of Hyde Hall at Sawbridgeworth near Bishop’s Stortford. Sir Jocelyn insisted on being buried sitting on his horse on unconsecrated ground and for such sacrilegious behaviour he is doomed to ride again every 1st November. On this night The Black Abbot walks from the church at Prestbury near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire to Reform Cottage where he knocks ominously on the door leading to much poltergeisting within. The cottage garden is situated on an old burial ground for monks. The restless Abbot also appears at Easter and Christmas.

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
🦷 ⇢ share some personal wisdom or a life hack you swear on
❄️ ⇢ what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best? 🌿
🍦 ⇢ name three good things about a character you hate
<3
Hello
🔪 so once for a story set in a 20s-ish Westeros I decided that the neck was like the Suffolk and Norfolk broads, so I spent about 2 days listening to recordings from the 1970s of old people from Norfolk and Suffolk talking about their lives when they were young, so that Meera and Jojen could talk in the appropriate colloquialisms, which I then had to provide a glossary for, because how many readers would know early 20th century narrowboat slang? 🦷 errr, vegan sausage rolls from the freezer section are good for emergency packed lunches. ❄️ this is sooo hard, argh, I'm trying to write a fic set in a convent for a reason at the moment and in my head its developing into some ridiculous many layered monstrosity and if @towyns could write the whole thing for me, she'd nail it and then it would exist and I'd be happy. Or I had this idea about how once a writer steps into a character's shoes, the whole story changes, (it was inspired by how I think grrm's concept of Theon changed once he found he had to write him) so @salty-wench please write Goblet of Fire but from Barty's POV? I desperately want to know how the story changes. 🍦I never really hate characters, I'm normally just damningly ambivalent about them, so let's go Ramsay, he bores me because he's just awful, there's no shades of grey. 3 good things, 1) love that ruby earring, also pink and red slashed thing, 2) reintroduces Jeyne and Theon, 3) (I'm really struggling now) the whole thing about his dad being a vampire makes me laugh, that's not really him is it? But you know I tried. ♥️♥️♥️s

SAINTS NOVEMBER 01 "There is only one tragedy in this life, not to have been a saint."- Leon Bloy
St Mary the Slave, Roman Catholic Martyr and slave of a Roman patrician named Tertullus. Delivered to the local prefect on charges of being a Christian, despite Tertullus' effort to save her, Mary suffered unspeakable tortures. Spectators demanded her release, and the prefect turned her over to the custody of a soldier. He aided her escape. She died a natural death but is venerated as a martyr because of the intensity of her sufferings. Feastday Nov 1
Bl. Teodor Romza, Roman Catholic priest and bishop, he was tireless in his defence of the rights of the Catholic Church there. On 27 October 1947, the Soviets attempted to kill Bishop Romzha. Heavily wounded, he was taken to the hospital in Mukachiv, where he was subsequently poisoned and died on 1 November 1947. Feastday: November 1
St. Valentine Berrio-Ochoa, Bishop and martyr of Vietnam. He was martyred by beheading with St. Jerome Hermosilla and Blessed Peter Amato, by enemies of the Church.
St. Cadfan, 6th century. Missionary to Wales venerated in Owynedd and Bardsey Island as a companion of Towyn. He was a native of Brittany, France, and founded monasteries in Wales.

And lastly, also from the ever-iconic fellow wife of the Legatus @aethelreds
Rules: Tag 10 people you want to get to know better.
Relationship Status: In a relationship! And also routinely divorcing @clotworthyskeffington but that's it's own thing.
Favorite Color: Pink.
Song Stuck In My Head: God... so many.. but recently it's often been Florence Welch intoning 'What I've succumb to is making me nuuuuuuuuuuumb' from her 'Just a Girl' cover.
Last Song I Listened To: 'Money, Power, Glory' by Lana Del Rey because I want money... power... and glory-yyyy.
Three Favorite Foods: Katsu curry, a GOOD spaghetti bolognese, chicken nuggets
Last Thing(s) I Googled: "John Heffernan" lets not talk about why. Don't worry about it don't worry about it.
Dream Trip: I have actually been to Italy once but I'd love to go again, including revisiting Florence where I went last time but also a bunch of other towns and cities across the country.
Anything I want: Everyone's been fighting. And all over that boy, Mark. I think he should be dropped from a great height. Just like your dog, Purkoy... SLAP! ... Do that again and I will hit you back. You're no queen. You're just a knight's daughter. And your time has come. Harry. Do me a good turn. Take away my brother's wife and drown her. Anne... What? Didn't you say you'd walk barefoot to China for me? I think it was barefoot to Walsingham I offered. Well, perhaps you can repent your sins there. For if anything were to happen to the king, you would seek to have me. Oh, yes, you see now, Mary, why he has not yet proposed to you? It's because he's in love with me. And yet he won't prove it-- by putting Lady Rochford in a sack and dropping her IN THE RIVER.
... AND I SHALL TAG!
