the nineties gotham gang (bruce, dick, babs, tim, helena, steph, cass, jpv, dinah and zinda on the periphery) is like. the benchmark for complex and interesting character interactions for me because every single person has a different relationship with everyone else, and most of those relationships exist externally to bruce. he’s at the epicenter sure but he isn’t the constant third wheel. dick’s dislike of helena and jpv is incited by bruce but bruce doesn’t have to be present for the relationship to be interesting. tim and babs talk on page and have a rapport. cass and steph’s friendship is messy and complicated. every relationship in the rebirth era has bruce driving the bus. everyone gets along by trimming off important characterisation to remove interesting friction or the relationships are carbon copies of each other. tim shouldn’t have the same relationship w jason as he does w dick. damian might not be as close with babs as he is with steph. insisting that an absence of complexity is a superior form of storytelling sucks. watching emotionally volatile characters use therapy speak and attend pta meetings isn’t narratively coherent for these characters. i miss when people got to be bitchy and mean

honestly at this point as silly as it might sound (not to me but that's a #clarifier) I do recognize that a good chunk of the people who might not really get the nuances or ford's story or behave in Annoying behavior are probably also abuse/trauma survivors themselves so it's less maddening because I think people are Willfully Stupid(tm) and more that I wish people recognized these things for what they are, even in fiction, and realized how interconnected fiction is with the rest of our society and perceived values, and such. like part of the whole Thing is that abuse is overwhelmingly prevalent in our society and we should probably be able to talk about it more, represent it in fiction more, and stop treating it like it's the most dire topic on earth to have any discussion about. idk. <- normal cartoon post

This has been a multiple year project (for some reason) but I’ve finally hunkered down and started to finish my genderbent 47 wardrobe :3

While I’m here, I’m going to spill my fem 47 thoughts here because I need to unleash my demons into this world:

1. Fem 47 would definitely be able to grow hair (on her head exclusively, rip bush 😔) (and also, a bald woman is definitely more noticeable than one with hair) but make a point of keeping it short (at least until 3 😉).

2. She would be borderline obsessive with how she presents herself. Think canon 47’s wardrobe tenfold. Half a million dollar closet (at least). Has the perfect outfit for almost any situation. And if she doesn’t, she WILL be buying it.

3. I think that, fundamentally, the perfect female assassin would have to be either A. completely unseen or B. be able to hold a normal conversation with someone.

Ort-Meyer (who is also presumably a woman in this universe and also chose B) likely would have considered this and had the girls properly socialized.

Due to the serum, fem 47 would be a bit stunted, but far more amiable than canon 47.

4. This is purely a lustful addition but since she grows hair, I’ve decided to put her tattoo on the small of her back trampstamp style. I’ve also dabbled with a cow ear tag type thing.

5. Alias is “Tobiah Rieper”. Works better as a pun as a bonus :3c

So there was a post a while back about Ben Solo always being told "don't do (x), that's how uncle luke lost his hand" when he was a kid - and I raise you: Elrond and Elros being told "don't do (x), that's how Maedhros lost his hand"??

Like, at Amon Ereb when the twins were newly acquired and refusing to eat their vegetables and Maglor is Mag-mothering them until Erestor, feral half-sane clinically depressed anarchist Avari hostage/patient/infiltrator and Certified Little Shit, hits em with:

"I would listen to the Lord Maglor, winyamor, he well knows the dangers that come to young elflings who don't eat enough vegetables - after all, that's how his brother lost his hand."

Elrond looks conflicted. Elros squints suspiciously. "Truly?"

Erestor, practically comatose since the massacre but ultimately saved from Fading by the biological compulsion to fuck with you, lays a hand over his heart. "I would never lie about such a thing! Just what do you take me for? This is a true tale and a grave warning - the Lord Maedhros' hand was tragically lost in the days of his youth, whilst he was still growing as you are. He refused to eat his vegetables and so, cruelly deprived of the strength it needed to grow strong, his body started to fall apart! First his fingers, then his thumb, and then his palm and wrist - all turned blue and dropped off!"

"No!" Elrond gasps. Elros looks both terrified and impressed. Maglor's face is scrunched up into something that the twins probably interpret as pained - at reminder of the horrors of limbs falling off! - but is actually just him busting a rib trying not to laugh.

"Yes!" Erestor cries with relish. "And it never grew back. All because he didn't eat his vegetables. Isn't that right, Lord Maedhros?"

Maedhros, a looming terror at the head of the table, scarred and solemn and impenetrable as his fortresses, narrows his eyes consideringly at the unfolding shenanigans and the rascal behind it. His conclusion? Fuck it. He gives a slow, solemn nod. Completely deadpan and exaggeratedly formal, because it may have been centuries since he last had his brothers smothering laughter at political dinners but the Finwëan sense of humour, once caught, is not an ailment easily cured.

Maglor conceals his wheezes behind his goblet as Erestor nods sagely to the wide-eyed twins, who suddenly seem a sight more interested in their vegetables.
