idk i just feel like i did so much waiting just to do more waiting and i've been so patient and so hopeful only to have to wait more and more and more and get my hopes up yet again.

another goal leaving date passed today and i still can't legally drive the van.

my research code has decided to hate me. I am very sad.

heres a list of things that aren't supposed to be happening, but are happening: 1) atoms flying off 2) regions of brown+pink inside the purple 3) regions of brown and blue without their respective pink and salmon 4) 3 is likely caused by LAMMPS deciding to make 3 rows of brown+blue and 2 rows of pink+salmon 5) When I did it with a shorter simulation (as in the blocks of green+purple were shorter, and the brown+pink+blue+salmon were the same sizes everything worked fine 6) running my python analysis on the shorter one looks like this

which is very interesting! the highest strain seems to be not in the middle as I was expecting, but very much on one side, (aka, although mixing most occurs at 0.5, the atoms on the right move a lot less then the atoms on the left do) this indicates that one of the materials has a lot weaker intermetallic bonds then the other, and the stronger metal's resistance to movement can really shut down the amount of internal vibrations experienced by the other. However, I'm not super satisfied with the range - I want something to go further left and right because that would be interesting and I want to see the leftwards curve.

and on the bigger, more comprehensive graph, that should do just that, looks like this:

which looks like a face. I can't tell if its in pain or if its incredibly smug. either way, it makes me sad.

even worse: these graphs took forever to make. the larger simulation had over 100,000 atoms, and python is not necessarily a quick language.

if you want context: I'm investigating how stress/strain propagate between layers of a thin film between copper and aluminum, and how that changes if based on the amount of diffusion between them. except to keep things simple, instead of a thin film, im doing blocks with a thin-film-esque diffusion boundary. I think in a thin film the strains would overlap and superposition would happen, unless you wanted the thin film to be 1-2 atoms thick, which would be a very different type of analysis then what I'm doing. I guess I'm analyzing thick thin films.

i’m just gonna say it i love how kaos handled orpheus and eurydice. i really did, im a huge greek mythology nerd and that story has always been about the refusal to give someone up even when you should, its not a love story its a story about grief. and i just- ah they did something really cool there didn’t they? i’m gonna rewatch the season and like properly form my opinions but i really like it.

I think canonically Jean is older than Neil, BUT PLAY PRETEND WITH ME FOR A MINUTE: Neil is older and his 5- foot-three ass always introduces 6-foot-plus Jean as his 'little brother' every chance he gets. And every time people look around expecting (at the very least) someone Neil's height or close to it, and instead BAM, a 6-foot-plus Frenchman who looks nothing like Neil, not in the slightest, who just nods a hello. i think sabrina carpenter’s fans who are upset about the outrage behind her new album cover need to be honest and admit that both her and their views on feminism are limited to rich white women’s. idk, if you don’t see how posing seductively while being yanked by a man is degrading and off-putting to others, then you’re ignorant to today’s climate. media literacy is absolutely in the gutter, inceldom is on the rise, and young women are gravitating toward tradwife aesthetics. “it’s clever, it’s ironic, it’s witty!!!” to who? not to women of colour, especially black women, who are the main ones compared to dogs and dehumanized in media. and definitely not to the men who will fail to grasp the message she is (allegedly) intending to put out and instead just give more ammo to degrade women.

edit: and just to be clear, women are absolutely allowed to be sexy! but there is a clear difference between what is empowering and what is straight up objectification.

Darius watched this kid get indoctrinated, he wasn't able to stop the genocide, he didn't defeat Belos, and he never got revenge or answers. If you have all these morals, and your identity is tied to them, but you fail to see them through, who are you? Darius's legacy might have been as a villain who tore Hunter's family apart, or the Isles (and his friends, like Eda) might have seen him as a monster who stood by Belos. Darius couldn't afford to care about what people thought of him, even the people he loves, if it meant doing something. I think Darius did a lot of small things. Even if you can only save one life, you still saved a whole person.

After years of playing the game and being defined by other people, I think both of them need to find their identities again.

still thinking about gaz doing ghost’s skincare

even when they’re on base and the worst of the all-encompassing exhaustion is held at bay, he knows ghost doesn’t have the energy to spare to do any kind of in depth routine; knows as much as it makes him feel good to feel soft and clean and cared for, he won’t be able to keep up with it by himself

gaz just didn't expect how good it would feel to do it for him

how accomplished he'd feel when he figured out the right combination of products to soothe ghost's sensitive neglected skin without him breaking out or getting even more dehydrated, the best moisturiser for his scars, researching no-wash products so he doesn't have to get up once they've started; all ghost has to do is lay back and let gaz work

it's an honour, not only to be trusted enough with ghost's - with simon's - face but also to watch him lose every ounce of tension in his body

they usually - and how amazing that they have a usual, that this has become a routine - end up with ghost's head in his lap, a soft pillow beneath his head so he can just rest. it's not uncommon for him to fall asleep entirely as gaz follows his steps

bottles of cleansers and serums and moisturisers all bought just for him, each one dutifully researched with ghost's skin type in mind, all stored in a black leather bag moulded into a skull bc gaz found it browsing one day and thought it was too perfect. ghost doesn't even know what they all do, just knows how blissful it is to feel the gentle pressure of gaz's fingers massaging his face; following the contours of scars that haven't pulled or flared since they started doing this

gaz never tells him about the rollers he could use instead, the applicators that are technically better for his skin bc it would mean he'd know that gaz uses his hands just for him; that he can feel how much he craves his touch and knows he enjoys it just as much, if not more than the actual results

gaz just tells him that a thorough massage after everything is applied is necessary for all the products to marry up and sink properly into his skin and spends the next half hour smiling down at his superior as he lets go of all his pain and trusts him to keep him afloat
