Are there any characters from LO that you actually like/don’t mind

I have a lot more appreciation for Minthe now with all the hindsight that Hades and Persephone are often way worse than she is. She still had a lot of issues on her own end that she didn't deal with well, and while I would have liked to see her actually develop properly beyond her struggles both internal and with Hades, I think the best thing we could have asked for was Minthe being written out of the story the way she was. At least then Rachel couldn't continue to use her as a punching bag (she just tagged in Leuce for that, sigh)

Helios is great, zero issue with him. This scene is a lot funnier and more relatable to read in hindsight:

like ofc Helios is gonna rat on her, he's the fucking sun who's been around for thousands of years, why would he put any more of his limited freedom on the line for macaroni art LMAO (and yes, Rachel herself confirmed that Persephone made macaroni art cards for Helios, it's like... yeah okay it's cute but Persephone and Demeter still hid a crime from Zeus, the sentimental value of the birthday cards have no bearing on that LOL)

Thanatos is also in the camp of "characters I appreciate more in hindsight and wish got better character development". Adding in the 'twist' that he was Hades' adoptive son after we just spent nearly two seasons watching Hades treat him like just a lowly employee who didn't deserve his respect was certainly... a choice. And I don't think I should have to explain why it was a very very BAD one LOL

Hephaestus is also great, I know he's an extremely minor character whose only real role was to delete the blackmail photos from Apollo's phone but, like. look at him???

amazing. precious. sweet boy. and it has absolutely nothing to do with my absent older brother issues why would you say that- (｡•́︿•̀｡) that said, there are still flaws in his design (his prosthetics especially because he's constantly wearing running blades for every occasion which I feel like Rachel only chose because they "looked cool" and were "easier to draw" but like. his poor hips and back, that's gotta be uncomfortable 😭) but even just his face on its own is ironically one of the most unique character designs across the entire cast, not for any sort of outstanding or creative reasons, you just can't possibly mistake or color swap him with anyone else LMAO and though I can't feasibly give credit to Rachel for writing a neurodivergent character - because I have no clue if that was her intention here, afaik she's never really talked about it - I can wholly relate to him being the introverted computer guy who just wants to be left alone with his work and his airpods, like that's literally just me LOL

And of course nothing Rachel could ever do would make me hate Demeter, I think it's so ironic and tone deaf that Rachel claimed she "didn't get" why Demeter was so hated by the fans and didn't "agree" with the comparisons to Mother Gothel, but like... Rachel literally wrote her that way. And while she did "resolve" it, it wasn't with any actual empathy towards Demeter's own side of things, it was just bandaids on top of bandaids and then going "yep! She's all better now! That's character development!" Out of all the characters who deserved better, she was the one who deserved the most 😔💓

"What are you two doing?" you asked the two boys curiously. You placed your hands on your boyfriend's shoulders as you leaned in closer to their computer screens.

"Oh, (Y/N)!" cheered Sora. "We're playing our game! We're working with someone from a game company that worked on SSVRS to make one for Switch!"

"That sounds fun, but... what are you supposed to be?" you asked your boyfriend, Tsumugi, who looked almost as confused as you were at the avatar that was chosen for him.

Sora laughed. "It's Mo-jakko!"

"Mhm, it's Mo-jakko," sighed Tsumugi with a smile. "Scary, huh?"

"Nope, it's cute!" you squealed. "Haha, it looks just like you!"

You started ruffling his hair and he let you without a single complaint or any means to stop you.

"(Y/N), you should join us!" Sora suggested. "It'll be fun!"

"Okay, why not?" you said as you sat down on the chair Tsumugi was already occupying. Now that the two of you were sharing it, it became harder for him to control his character.

But he didn't mind it. He liked how close you were sitting next to him, he didn't care that the two of you could slip out of the chair at any moment. Even when there were plenty of spare chairs in the room, he wanted to be a little selfish and have you right there next to him.

After the session, Sora mentioned that if the game receives enough praise, then Mo-jakko could have his own line of merch to which Tsumugi sighed, but agreed on how cute that may be for their fans.

But Tsumugi didn't expect you to also be interested in something so silly like that.

So when he saw you one day at work with a Mo-jakko plush attached to your side, he was rather confused. Sure, he thought it was cute and it did make him happy that you were showing love to his mascot, but he had noticed how you took it everywhere you went.

Even on dates with him.

At some point, it seemed to him that you were paying more attention to the mascot that resembled him than him himself. He didn't want to ruin your fun though, so he kept it to himself for a while, but there came a time he had to let it all out.

And because Tsumugi was one that didn't understand why his words came out like that, you were particularly dumfounded.

"Tsumugi, are you perhaps... jealous?" you asked, suppressing a laugh.

"M-Maybe?" he answered honestly. "Well, you don't talk to me the way you talk to Mo-jakko..."

You appreciated how honest he could be, so you couldn't be too mad when he finally communicated his feelings to you. You ruffled his hair, fingertips making contact with his fluffy blue locks.

"You know I love you the best, right?" you chuckled.

"Yeah, I know..." He smiled. "But... please don't forget about me, (Y/N)..."

"Who do you think I am?"

You laughed and he followed suit. He admitted it was rather silly of him to be jealous of a plushie, but he did want all of your attention on him than an inanimate object.

What's annoying about the bk///dk shippers who have infiltrated the tag with their "bakugou is heartbroken and deserves better and deku should beg for forgiveness" bullshit is that these were the same people who said bakugou deserves a second chance after bullying deku for 10 years. That deku loves him too much to cut him off from his life. But one "no" from deku in 431 and they're acting like he's Satan and bakugou should cut him off from his life. The hypocrisy.

Also them writing revenge fics where baku gets with todoroki and TODOROKI of all people starts hating deku for breaking baku's heart. Lol that's his friend too...he'd be upset for both of them.

You know what's wild to me is that some shippers have already refused to accept that 431 even existed when it was just leaks when only like three pictures and a brief summary was shown but then turned around and continued to act like 431 exist with the whole "it got worse 😭" when it was revealed that Midoriya said no to just working at Katsuki's agency.

If the chapter already made you upset, then why continue to look into it?!

And conveniently decide it was worth paying attention to because Midoriya said "no"?

So you agree? So you agree that Midoriya would definitely say "no" even though you claim he wouldn't, right? You claim that 431 is "fake" and "Hori is a BkDk traitor" but then turn around and apply the "fakeness" to fics and agree to them and also being a traitor.

I know someone is going to say it. Yes, 431 has some weird writing but the responses to it is out of line.

I really hated to see BakuDeku shippers going "Deku should give back the suit" just because he talked to Ochako and dapped her up and I knew it was going to go down hill from there as always.

I immediately started unfollowing people because of it. I never thought I would be so disappointed, but I play myself because it's not like I haven't been disappointed before by the fandom and I had to unfollow people I thought I could be happy to see on my dash.

I don't think the shippers who decided that Midoriya is the worst person in the world for being a grown ass man making his own decisions actually like BakuDeku. Just their versions of it they like because no way for either character you're going to treat one character like he's evil incarnate and baby the other and have him hook up with someone close to both of them.

You're right, it's complete bullshit.

So Bakugou can get a second chance, but Midoriya can't say "no" despite that it would make sense given that he is still adjusting his schedule (keep in mind that 431 takes place possibly right after 430, so little time for Midoriya to even get used to being a Pro Hero and teacher), and would have to go back and forth between home, UA and then an agency (like did Bakugou think about that).

Bad writing or not, you can still make sense of it! If you're creative enough to write revenge fics, you're creative enough to come up with the reasons why Midoriya said "no".

It's not like their relationship is forever ruined or anything. Not like they still can't see each other. Not like they still can't be heroes together like they wanted to be!

No matter what, those two have that bond that they don't have with anybody. And who's to say? Midoriya could always change his mind. What happened to headcanons?

Oh, wait! No, apparently the headcanons some of these shippers have is that Midoriya should totally quit the job that he is happy with and just go by everything Bakugou says!

I'm sorry, but that is not the BakuDeku depiction I'm going for. Like, do they know how they sound?!

you waited patiently in front of the music store at the front of the mall (ted had told you to meet him there in a few minutes). you were so nervous you were scared that your pants were stained with the sweat you had wiped off your hands. this was a nightmare! you were going to totally embarrass yourself in front of him and he'd never want to talk to you again! god, why couldn't you stop sweating?

"babe!"

your head snapped in the direction of his voice and found ted jogging towards you from the parking lot. you felt a little more relaxed now, thoughts of him ghosting you dissipating from your mind. he bore one of his usual sloppy grins and waved at you. as he crossed the street, he narrowly avoiding being hit by a car (tripping over his own feet but inevitably standing straight once more).

"hi," you said with a breathy laugh, anxiously shifting your weight between your two feet.

"wow!" he exclaimed loudly, looking you up and down. "you're totally pretty!"

you blushed furiously and stared at the ground. "thanks, you look pretty too. or handsome! if you prefer that. since some guys . . . not to say you're not pretty - if you don't mind me saying that, i mean." you internally cringed at yourself. you just needed to shut up and get on with it!

"oh, thanks," ted responded in a small voice, suddenly feeling shy. it was awkward now, the two of you just standing there in silence, rocking back and forth on your feet. you felt incredibly stupid, not knowing what to say. how were you supposed to behave on a first date anyways? should you take the lead? you didn't want to order him around or anything.

"so, should we, uh . . . " ted furrowed his brows in concentration and stared up at the ceiling. he didn't seem to know what to do either. "uh . . . " he started to become more jittery, his mind drawing at a blank. his shoulders slumped and he looked back at you. "i'm sorry, babe, i swear i had a whole plan and everything but . . . uh, well, you see . . . i've never taken out a babe before. so i'm totally drawing a blank dude! dudette? . . . babe. babe?"

"well, i've never been taken out by a guy before, so . . . you're not the only one," you responded with a nervous chuckle.

"no way!" he exclaimed in blatant disbelief. "but, you - you're fantastic!"

you stared at him with wide eyes. "you really think so?"

"of course! you're really pretty and smart and funny! just ask bill, i talk to you about him all the time!" he then seemed to realize that perhaps he shouldn't have said that. "wait, i'm not supposed to say that. one sec . . ." he pulled a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket filled with notes about how to behave on a first date that bill had copied for him from one of missy's magazines. "uh . . . okay, uh-huh . . . right!" he crumpled up the paper and pocketed it again. "confidence! babe, would you like to go eat in the food court?"

you stared at the hand he held out to you and suddenly, you didn't feel as nervous anymore, knowing what you did now. "yeah, let's go!"

Dungeon meshi (or Delicious In Dungeon) is a manga that recently started getting an animated adaptation on Netflix. The Manga is completed and the anime is ongoing. And just to be transparent I'm anime only so I don't know the whole story yet :0

The story follows a party (like a DND party) after they lost one of their members to a dragon, and they decide to go back to the dungeon to try and save her.

Laios, the blond guy with the armor, is the brother of the lost party member, Falin. he's very passionate and excitable (some people think it makes him awkward or difficult to talk to), he's just very in his own world.

Marcille, the blond elf girl with the blue dress (i think it's a dress?), is a childhood friend of Falin, she's a mage and casts mostly explosions lol. Marcille and Falin went to magic school together and it's pretty obvious they also have feelings for each other, that's why Marcille wants to save her so much.

Chilchuck, the tiny guy with the green neck wrap, is the group's lockpick. He's often cynical and sarcastic, and honestly at the start of the series I didn't expect to love him as much as I do, there's way more to him than what it might seem at a glance.

There were two other party members in their party but they decided to quit, each for their own reasons, and since the party lost almost all of their belongings in the dragon fight they were now broke. Eager to go save Falin they had a debate on what to do next, in which Laios mentioned he had expert knowledge on monsters and had always wondered what they taste like. Somehow Laios managed to convince Marcille and chilchuck to eat monsters to save up on money, although they were very opposed to it at first.

Laios knows a lot about monsters, but he doesn't know a lot about cooking, that's when they meet Senshi. Senshi is a dwarf that lives in the dungeon and is very passionate about cooking and living healthy. Senshi decides to tag along with Laios, Marcille, and Chilchuck, on their quest to save Falin, slaying and cooking monsters along the way.

This is the premise of Dungeon Meshi! Obviously there's a lot more that goes into it like other characters I didn't mention and a whole bunch of twists and turns in the story. If it's not apparent already by the amount of fanart I did, I'm enjoying the anime a lot lol. I can wholeheartedly recommend it, it's genuinely hilarious, the characters are all expertly written and bounce so well off of each other, there's little to no weird yucky "fan service" (the author is a woman and treats all her female characters with the respect they deserve) and at its core (as I see it) it's a story about passion, and how far following it can bring you.

There's a million and one other positive things I can say, like the LGBT and neurodivergent representation (Marcille and Falin are very clearly Sapphic, and Laios is widely headcanoned as autistic) and the various and diverse body types for both men and women, but I don't want this to go on for too long 😭

re: jasiper. i reread BOO recently and i felt sick to my stomach when jason literally describes growing old with piper. then when i got to TOA and started THO, the two of them are described as being in LA together… and then, come TBM, and they just… break up?! it’s so unsatisfying for them breaking up to happen off screen and the fallout to be outside their perspectives.

the thing about jasiper is that i think jeyna is really fun and interesting to rotate in my mind. there’s legitimate tension to play with! jeyna are, for all intents and purposes, basically the roman percabeth within the narrative, but that’s never addressed. and that’s fine, but like… it would be more interesting to ME if jason maybe Did accidentally cheat on reyna and now has to sort that out!!! it’s kind of a nightmare scenario for him that i’d like to see him deal with! jasiper is also giving jason/medea to me (piper being given fake romantic memories mirrors medea getting hera’d into falling in love with myth!jason so well) except that it’s NOT doomed… until it suddenly is, for some reason :|

idk. i get why some people aren’t obsessed, especially with the fake memory stuff, but idk them working past that and making something real because THEY want to is still fun and worthwhile to me.

okay can you imagine the drama with jason "I can't ever be like my mom who broke her promise or my father whose infidelity makes me uncomfortable" grace accidentally cheating on reyna and how that adds to his conflict between chb and cj. Like... it's right there. maybe I'm just a drama monger but even if you hate jeyna/jiper/love triangle-esque conflicts (which I don't! and love triangles aren't bad they're just usually written so poorly 😩) it could've been a nice avenue through which to explore jason's thought processes and everything he had with reyna and cj (furthermore I mean... cj gets a bad rep and they deserve it but maybe that could be a cool way to explore how chb is also extremely flawed, just in a different way. not that reyna/piper are passive agents in this scenario but jason's the one who has to Choose what he's going to do with his old life and his current life and his future. he spends 6 months at chb pre-moa, it's not really difficult to have him weigh the positives and negatives contained in chb in the same way that he weighs his own relationship with piper... except his memories of his past are still kind of ambiguously unsettled. god I wish that had been resolved more informatively)

and if they were going to break up, then like... he doesn't have to choose either of them. he can just go his own way and that could also be a satisfying resolution to the romance drama and his character arc (and ofc still retain his closeness to piper and reyna because he's not going to leave people behind forever either). ... also again not really into jason ships (and not that he needs to be datin anyone) but on the subject of forging your own path and rejecting the hard binaries of those two options nico was literally right there (and there is no world where jason is just a cishet guy sorry)

with the jasiper breakup my opinion does just boil down to: ok whatever with this relationship but mr riordan you lost your chance to break them up when you had them making the conscious decision to forge their own path together because the memories were fake but they could still make something real. that's how their story ends in hoo and ykw that's a nice enough resolution? oh god and him wanting to grow old with her 😭 they make me so sad. and then like... what sense does it make for APOLLO to be our lens for the end of this relationship??? and it's offscreen too? god. what a waste. you don't have to be a jasiper fan to understand that this was a terrible continuation of their story

I really do think it only happened this way because jason was the safest character to kill off and rick was trying to quell the negative response people had to jasiper as well as his poorly researched stuff on cherokee culture and stereotypes about indigenous women being saved by the perfect white man or whatever. so furthermore my problems with toa do also kind of just boil down to: everything Really Sucks as a continuation of the stories of our previous main characters + the story reeks of retcons made to appease audience criticism/logical errors (don't get me started on the reyna and frank stuff lol). I don't believe for a second that jasiper broke up for any reason beyond rick's overengagement with his own audience + weird habits of indirectly addressing/refuting criticism. they should have just stayed together after hoo sorry to those who don't agree lol

i completely agree with you anon, you bring up a lot of valid points. take this as my two cents:

putting aside the fact that the entire thing seems to have become an absolute shit show, it definitely is in everyone's best interest to remember the core problem which is appropriately tagging. i have nothing against dc writers, but given the fact that a lot of themes found in dc works can be hard to swallow at times and could potentially trigger someone unknowingly, i do think there's an extra layer of caution needed. which is clearly not what happened here. but idk why the dc blog concerned wasn't approached privately first?? i think resorting to immediately writing a call out post was rash bc like it or like, this fandom tends to operate with a herd mentality. many take things to face value and end up spewing the most vile things i've ever read without doing prior reading. i don't think either side deserved the hate they got (despite this being a monster of their own creation) but it was incredibly thoughtless to publicly air their argument instead of trying to solve whatever grievances there were amongst themselves first. and not only that, they've also subjected the rest of us to their pettiness as well. i have no interest in reading up on their drama but it does seem that neither side approached the other privately at all and they've just been clogging the tags with their posts. if there's anything to learn from this, it's tag your posts properly.

I'm actually psychotic (and often don't take my meds due to paranoia) so it's a delusion, it's actually quite different from fictionkin because in that case I can separate myself from the character in a certain way, while, on the other hand when it's a delusion, I can't do it at all, not only that but I firmly believe that, being the former president of the US, Callum Crown, the person who made object heads possible in Dialtown, the government is trying to make me forget my memories/believe it's just a delusion because if I remember my plans for the world, it will be over for them, I'm aware it's a delusion right now because I've been taking my meds lately luckily but God knows when I'll get paranoid again😭 also the anon tag is so silly! I don't know why natasha went from being in a relationship with bucky (which was always a terrible choice, of course) and still having her own life & solo runs & being a generally well-respected member of the superhero community to being bucky's girlfriend with seemingly no life of her own and no solo runs :/ like, why is she co-parenting that fuck ass cat with him now or something?

The rest of us (fans of other characters) constantly complain about mischaracterization when it happens but cap fans seem to be happy with anything they get as long as the art is pretty and their ships are together 😭 sam literally tortured someone in his latest solo run and people were totally cool with it. Every writer who wrote sharon and bucky wrote them differently. Misty & natasha deserve better than to be stuck with these people and if they don't know what to do with steve, they should stop giving him solo books. I don't know how long the current cap editor was active for so I don't know if they're the only person to blame but they're certainly doing a terrible job regardless of whether they're solely responsible for all of these things...

TBH I considered posting this fic here but I truly can't be bothered to figure out how to put all the links and everything so I'll just post the whole fic once it's finished on AO3. In the meantime, I have literally So Much to say about this fic because it's been rotting my brain for weeks now, and there's only so much I can fit in the author's notes, so here we are!

So, act two:

I have SOO much to say about this chapter and I’ll try to go chronological:

I was very careful with how I presented Jiang Yanli here. On one hand, to get the ending I wanted, she needs to literally stage a coup all by herself (at first). On the other, I didn’t want to fall into the same pit so many authors do when trying to bring power to female characters, which is make them girl boss.

I don’t think Jiang Yanli would ever try and build her martial skills, as we get in the text that she had little interest in it. As cool as it sounds, she wouldn’t do such a thing as wield a sword or Zidian unless pushed to great lengths. This fic has her using cooking as a way of cultivation, and I became obsessed with the idea. I did my best to veer away from copying it and instead adding my own twists, which is why I leaned into traditional Chinese medicine, specifically food therapy.

WEI YING WITH SAILORMOON BUNS AND RED BOWS!!!!!!! Pls I’m obsessed 😭😭😭😭 his ponytail is cute and all but I just love the image of him with cute, more feminine hair styles bc he would look SO GOOD! Imagine Lan Zhan’s reaction…

I added the bits about Wei Ying’s tantrums because I wanted him to be a kid, something I don’t think he was ever allowed to be, hence the playful, childish mannerisms he keeps up well into adulthood. “Xianxian is three” is adorable and I love that inside joke with his shijie, but it has some really sad implications. I think Wei Ying was forced to grow up too fast and too early, and that kind of trauma Fucks You Up. Hence, he deserved to have a meltdown once he felt safe.

Wen Ning and Wei Ying being best friends and then siblings? It’s just what they deserve!! They’re so cute

OOOHHHHH BOY I was so excited to finally introduce Cai Yiben!!! This character really grew on me. When I originally had the idea, I was just going to have Wei Ying be trans/genderqueer and let Jiang Yanli have a nice cottagecore-esque Lesbian dream life, but I thought 'You know what? No, she deserves a hot transmasc to rock her world,' and I believe I made the right decision.

Jiang Yanli realizes her feelings for Cai Yiben so late because of comphet, but as a commenter said it could also be read as her finding him more attractive (NOT in a fetish way) once he came out as trans, because trans people are HOT.

Next chapter is a short interlude focusing on Cai Yiben, so stay tuned!
