I am heavily contemplating on buying myself a dvd player soon and buying all the DVDs for a ton of movies and tv shows I grew up watching cuz I miss the magic of dvds
#hear me out on this one okay. but the Barbie movies were magic on dvd back in the day#and I do wanna see if stores are still selling the old strawberry shortcake dvds before I go online for those#I wanna snort that nostalgia so bad#and of course I’ll need to get the dcau on dvd#like all of it cuz I’m so bored with the dccu since we don’t get as much new stuff#it’s always Batman or superman and love them but I’m kinda bored from always seeing a new bman or sups movie#Wonder Woman I wouldn’t mind a new actor for her but I know she’s not gonna be a muscle mommy which I’ll be sad about#give me a Wonder Woman that is built like rhea ripely god damnit#the flash is eh cuz I found out this whole time I’ve been watching the Wally west flash#but yeah Wally is who I want and then there’s the green lantern like dude is so cool iams all we have is the 1 from 2011 I think#sure I could watch some of the tv series they have but I have too many shows on my watch list it’s overwhelming at times so I skip over lots#tho I will have to pray like crazy cuz some of the things I know I want are probably gonna be expensive as fuck even as second hand#saw a class of the titans season 1 dvd going for $81 cad 💀💀💀#the world is not kind to those who don’t love the digital age#I prefers my dvds cuz I own it and no one can take it away from me unless they physically steal it#omg I’m turning into my grandma cuz she still had the vhs player with some tapes too#just wish she never donated the tapes for swan princess 1-3 and Anastasia and ferngully and basically all my faves that she owned#like Ngl a part of me wants to hit up value village just to see if maybe they’re still there or if I’ll find other copies of the same things#cuz a perk about cities with older people is that you get so much older tech and other items it’s insane

i’m so obsessed with my ocs except i haven’t actually developed their universe At All so i have to figure out what is even happening around them and not just like. what they would eat for breakfast
#anyway. miya would love jam on toast and bacon but normally she just gets the toast with shitty grape jelly#joel doesn’t need to eat (once again. he is dead. angels do not require sustenance)#but it does help him heal faster and have more energy if he does eat#so he’ll eat like 4-6 eggs in one go. any form#fried. scrambled. omelette if he’s feeling fancy. in a single bowl of ramen (this is upsetting to witness)#eggs are so nutritious snd high in protein so that’s why they’re his go-to since he mostly eats just for the physical benefit#and not really for enjoyment or obligation#he doesn’t feel hunger like most ppl do. he may just feel weaker or fatigued more easily#so he goes for the most instantly filling easily accessible easily prepped thing: eggs#anyway back to miya bc i talked too much abt joel and it’s uneven#miya doesn’t really ever get access to any jams or jellies or preservatives other than the cheap grocery store shit#which she enjoys regardless#but the first time she tries an apricot jam or strawberry rhubarb preserves or raspberry jelly#it’s like her whole universe explodes out#it’s so delicious she almost gets pissed off bevause from that point on she’ll never be able to have her boring grape squeez jelly without#remembering that there’s so much more out there in the world of jams jellies and preserves

was completely mystified for days by my cousins being like “let’s watch a movie!” and then BOTH OF THEM proceeding to stare at their phones throughout the entire film, glancing at the screen only whenever the dialogue or a musical cue implied that something Important was happening, only to realize that the issue is that modern films don’t rely on nearly as many purely visual elements as older films did, so my poor cousins missed over 50% of the jokes because i didn’t think to warn them that, when watching films directed by people who got their start before films had dialogue, you actually need to WATCH them to understand what is happening.
#realized this AS i was reading a review of the film i watched tonight and suddenly it ALL clicked#the visual gags were their favorite parts too - they just didn’t know they missed at least 90% of them 😂😂#i mean. personally i put everything aside when watching a film regardless of when it came out#which DOES sometimes result in me getting bored#but like. tough cookies. that’s what i signed up for#it’s not a YouTube video. it’s not an audiobook. it’s not a podcast.#you have to WATCH it#if you don’t want to watch a movie then that’s cool#but don’t say you do and then look at your phone the whole time - ya know?#i feel like i’m gonna have to start clarifying this with people beforehand#because i DO have movies i would put on if people’s mileage was ‘vaguely entertaining background noise for my phone scrolling’#but you’re not getting one of the Good Ones if that’s all you’re looking for#not even because i’m being judgey but because it fails to fulfill that purpose#they’re films that require your full attention#so if you can’t give them that - they won’t give anything back to you#i think that’s fair to say#oh also meant to mention that my cousins have degrees in theater and art respectively#so i just assumed they would inherently Get this#but they DIDN’T#and i was Not Prepared

RIGHT? SO much of star wars feels afraid to like idk go there! like bringing back that stupid fucking cowboy in the mandalorian like i’m sorry but he just fucking annoyed me i literally didn’t care that he survived lmao. Everyone is always saying “we want a darker star wars! we want it to be more serious! explore other stories! etc” they FINALLY do that! and they’re complaining bc i guess it ruined their ships? like bruh 💀 like this isn’t shock value to me if anything the story is streamlined. After spending so many years watching shows lose the plot by adding on more and more and more characters, splitting the narrative 50 different ways until the character arcs are just this incestuous snake eating its own tail like!! i’m glad this story is FOCUSED! the MAIN characters are mae and osha and their masters and just the age old sith/jedi/force philosophy argument which tbqh i LOVE!

illadvisedly been reading LU fic again and boy has the fic scene only gotten weirder about the leader thing
#the core conceit is that these are all singularly competent and accomplished heroes#awkwardly forced to work together and collaborate#the whole idea that time is ~ obviously the leader ~ is such boring nonsense#like Yeah i can see why it would shake out that way in the comic but in these fics people straight up take it as far as time outright orderi#ordering people around and being honestly mean. and it’s written off as ‘well obviously they’d all listen to him’#and like. okay for 1) with the exclusion of four all of these guys did their adventures independently. ft. fun sidekicks sure but they are#incredibly skilled individual fighters and experienced travelers#2) uh. nothing about time other than him arbitrarily being the oldest (bc jojo thought it would be more interesting - he never appears at#this age in canon) would make him an inherently better leader. he isn’t even the most experienced out of any of them#NOTORIOUSLY the hero of time is one of the youngest and wrapped up his heroism by the age of 12#if anything either warriors or four would be the best to formally lead (literal military captain and Guy Who’s Whole Adventure Was About#Teamwork). and 3) i don’t even really care about any of 2 i just think they don’t NEED a single leader like this much less that they would#pick one. they’re all stubborn little shits. they’ve got there little cliches and generally all like each other but fundamentally links are#just. not the type to fall in line in a hierarchy.#the best take on the leader problem in fic is usually ‘yeah whoever’s world this is is in charge to get us somewhere safe 👍’ and like#group consensus. i Get the level of respect time gets as ‘leader’ in the comic but fic wayyyyy over extends it (as a result of the scope#being bonkers bigger) but sincerely i think it’s incredibly stupid and ooc to write them as falling in line behind a Single Guy regardless#of which guy it is. and let’s be real it’s only time bc ocarina of time is the single most influential zelda game#idk. jay’s LUposting while halfway through an assignment again 👍#text✨#admittedly yes you do need someone to make Final Decisions on things. that is not the way most fics write time though#(to his and EVERYONE ELSE’S detriment. stop making people boring. let them fight about what they’re going to do more. time would be waymore)#interesting if people actually address the whole ‘he’s the oldest so he’s in charge’ thing as it really is: everyone mistaking him for Super#Skilled And Talented when he’s spent the 30 years since he killed ganon farming in the middle of nowhere. and he’s just like haha yeah sure!#i definitely know how to coordinate 9 fighters with distinct fighting styles ! i can do that! <- guy who sends his wife on market trips bc#he grew up in a forest of like 5 total children and still thinks normal human adults are weird

water 7/enies lobby coming up in like 4 episodes i’m biting and gnawing at the bars of my chimp enclosure
#i have some Thoughts about that arc as a whole but i’ll save them maybe#tldr i like water 7 a lot i think franky’s introduction and the aqua laguna and the sea train is all awesome#i don’t really like enies lobby… i know that’s sacrilege but i mostly just mean the part where they’re outside the building fighting for#20 episodes is fucking drawn out as hell in the anime and i remember getting really bored with it#the emotional core of enies lobby/cp9 hits so fucking hard which is awesome but the anime pacing really hindered it for me#in that it took me so long to get through enies lobby/cp9 that i lost interest in one piece entirely for 3 years#hoping i’m a stronger man this time around ☝️ and knowing that if the pacing drags too much i can just switch to the manga rq#ok so o guess i didn’t save my thoughts on the matter OOPS !#op rewatch

One of these days I’m gonna actually make beastly art in like his actual colors but um. I’m having fun returning to my comfy play scape lately <3
#doing shading studies on skulls for the funsies was such a tangible thing in how I do lineless art now#so like I somewhere got going drawing on index cards bc they’re less space to fill than a full page and thus less intimidating. that became#drawing silhouetted buildings and horizons against a gradient sky- I used roughly cut masking tape to have clean sun/moon and if I wanted#other clean lines. while I was staying w my grandma for a while I went oh shit I could do this digitally and that’s when I started getting#into digital art outside of just tracing photos exclusively. started playing with silly doodles digitally and somewhere along the line#wanted to draw teeth bc why not. struggled and didn’t like the result- tried again a few days in a row. liked how I’d improved but wasn’t#satisfied. so I saved an image of a skull lowered the opacity and originally was gonna trace the teeth but that got boring so like. I used#white to mark out the brightest points on the skull. a light grey for the next brightest. rinse and repeat until the whole thing is covered#and I’d do that for ages. like a year or two I think. I’d done other art too but the skulls and doing the same process with selfies was a#fun way to burn a lot of time and to just. have an ongoing project I could return to. a ways FURTHER down the line I was like ah damn. I’m#real happy with these but since I just grabbed images off whatever search engine idk if it’s ok for me to post these especially since I#wouldn’t even know who to credit anymore. so eventually I just sorta. stopped#but ummmm if u hit me up I can send u some of my skull study whatever’s and u can peek at how I mean they massively affected my process and#how I shade and stuff. that was like my whole learning process with shading outside of like. do line under the chin and the simplest things#that follow that train of thought. those skulls 🤝 buddy. rewired my brain and I’m vibin w it

#bc that’s me with raine#and this is not a self-deprecating thing btw this is genuinely me being like#I’m not in their head enough#they’re a little too prominent of a character for me to make up everything about them#but they’re minor enough to not give me a lot to work with#there are people who say raine is boring and like I get where they’re coming from tbh#I don’t think they’re boring and even if they were I still love them but they kinda exist as a concept/plot device more than a character#at the moment.#there’s not a whole lot of depth to them in canon and they don’t have a detailed backstory or heavy angst or personal issues that we know of#we know raine is eda’s ex we know they’re kinda nerdy we know they love music we know they have stage fright#we know they broke up with eda because she was lying and keeping secrets#we know they taught for the bard coven and uncovered some hard truths/secrets#we know they’re powerful enough to become head bard and we know they’re a spy and a traitor against the throne#eda says they’re the coolest person ever but we don’t get a lot of proof so we kinda have to rely on her word#what I think makes raine interesting is that they’re an older trans person but that’s not something canon goes in depth on#(because it’s not the point)#anyway I just ?#I think I would have an easier time if I got to write raine interacting with more people their age#but for the most part I’ve been writing them in a mentor role only and that is really hard for character development#I don’t think they need some crazy tragic backstory or heavy angst to propel their story forward and I find their simplicity really nice#but it makes rp hard !!!!!!#also I do not know how they talk#like general voice / mannerisms / phrasing / etc#(watching eda’s requiem on loop to try and get a sense of their speech patterns tbh )#out of.

#dont read this it’s just boring shit about my work lmao#was doing an assessment w a client today to get her updated in our system so she could get financial assistance#she used to be on my caseload when i had a caseload and i’ve been working w her for almost 3 years#she had sent a mortgage statement but we ran out of our mortgage assistance after a month and a half when it’s supposed to last us a year#so no mortgage assistance again until january#we were talking and the assessment is like personal questions about health and stuff and she started crying bc#she only has 7 of her antiretroviral left#and medicaid is telling her they’re gonna stop covering her bc her income is too high so she had cut back to working 2 days a week#and then couldn’t afford her bills#made me so sad 😭 i wish she had told me she was having issues we have a whole insurance department she’s never utilized#our org will pay her entire premium for a marketplace/employer plan#and she’s already enrolled in a program that will pay for her meds regardless of her insurance#mad me so sad she has been so deeply stressed about this i hope she lets me connect her to the insurance people bc they can fully solve her#made*#problem and she would be able to work full time again
