I think it’s to stop thinking we can hide the peas in the mashed potatoes at all; the peas need to be visible on the plate.
Look, mashed potatoes are great and all but ignoring that the first thing people are going to think about if they already found peas in the mashed potatoes is that you can’t trust the mashed potatoes. They’ll move on to the next thing on the plate and be suspicious every time they’re served mashed potatoes. In their eyes, it’s not harm reduction, it’s slow infiltration of change with no clear direction.
Republicans for months/years told people exactly what they wanted to do and people still voted for them. Yes, they used phrases like only “illegals immigrants” and “the prices are to high,” but we can’t forget that a lot of people heard the message, “We’re planning to hurt people,” and thought “cool. I’m not on that list because I’m a good one.”
No amount of hiding peas even for their own benefits will convince people that vote against their own interest that the visibly rotten sandwich isn’t better because at least no one trying to change the recipe or “force it down their throats.” It doesn’t matter that the peas are helping (ACA and abortion rights for example) because a lot of people are creatures of self serving comfort and deviating from tradition or norms is the worst thing ever because they’re afraid of losing the identity they’ve made for themselves. Yes, democrats are trying harm reduction, but that whole message was washed out by people hearing that if they play by the current rules, eat that rotten sandwich, the comfort they’re in now stays. Of course, we know that’s not true but it really doesn’t matter because the idea stuck with them.
When we’re trying to move away from a history of oppression perpetuated by and on multiple groups of people no matter their level in society, a lot of people will start punching up, down, even the people beside them. We saw it with the blame game after the election results. We saw the first openly trans person win a congress seat and everybody cheered here (even people that didn’t vote in that election) while also refusing to accept that people played different roles in allowing Trump to be reelected. We were this close to getting Ted Cruz voted out but no one is celebrating that because it’s considered a failure, not progress. It’s a communal failure in a group that only claims absolute and immediate communal wins. That’s what democrats don’t seem to understand and one of their biggest flaws even with their own voters. They’re selling equity boosts labelled as equality boosts and people are seeing other groups getting massive boosts (or at least boosts larger than their own) and are pissed.

ngl I think the acolyte put the stakes even higher than andor because like every main character from his planet managed to survive in the end and honestly I was kinda expecting some of them died lol I liked that they weren’t afraid to do it in the acolyte
RIGHT? SO much of star wars feels afraid to like idk go there! like bringing back that stupid fucking cowboy in the mandalorian like i’m sorry but he just fucking annoyed me i literally didn’t care that he survived lmao. Everyone is always saying “we want a darker star wars! we want it to be more serious! explore other stories! etc” they FINALLY do that! and they’re complaining bc i guess it ruined their ships? like bruh 💀 like this isn’t shock value to me if anything the story is streamlined. After spending so many years watching shows lose the plot by adding on more and more and more characters, splitting the narrative 50 different ways until the character arcs are just this incestuous snake eating its own tail like!! i’m glad this story is FOCUSED! the MAIN characters are mae and osha and their masters and just the age old sith/jedi/force philosophy argument which tbqh i LOVE!

No but like every time I think about Splinter and what he had to go through just to keep the boys alive, my heart hurts for him so badly. Is he perfect? No not at all, but none of them are and by god does he love his sons.
The fact that all of them are alive, and grew to thrive despite the circumstances surrounding them is a testament of how much Splinter loves his boys. He raised four babies following the most traumatic time of his life, all alone with nothing but the sewers to house them (to hide them.) I feel like he’s not given the credit he deserves for all he’s done.
And I get that it’s easy to hold up his flaws and faults when it comes to parenting, I myself like looking into them because flawed characters are super interesting and said flaws make them more realistic and engaging, but he tries, and again, so many others would have given up on the boys or failed along the way but Splinter didn’t.
He’s their father, for all his faults he did his damndest to make sure they survived.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#rottmnt splinter#rise splinter#he’s not perfect as I’ve said#and he’s got a whole slew of flaws and faults#but he’s a person - we are all flawed#he loves his sons dearly dearly dearly even if he struggles along the way to show that#parenting is not easy! especially as a traumatized mutant who is forced to do it alone#side note but I think this is one of the reasons why it kiiiiiinda ruffles my feathers to see so many people assign parentification to Raph#and in turn make Splinter out to be way worse and way more distant than he is in canon?#like idk I just don’t see what so many others see ig but maybe that’s just me#i guess my thoughts are like- let parents have flaws without villainizing them?#they’re still parents even if they mess up?#we can discuss the repercussions of a parents actions on a child while not casting that parent as an awful person#parents are peopleeee#I could go on but yeahhh#idk it bothers me seeing splinter’s efforts undermined when he’s been through so much#idk if ppl realized this by now but I love me some flawed characters#tho I do think in this fandom the ones whose faults are discussed the most are like#Splinter mostly then Draxum then Leo#of the main cast#and in Splinters case in particular his faults are made to cover his good qualities which makes me sad#because he is SO INTERESTING#they’re all flawed characters and tbh so interesting because their flaws are ALSO their strengths in many aspects

RIP Krakoa 🌹 I can’t lie I’ve been kinda behind since midway through Fall of X I’m gonna catch up before my first SDCC this summer but I hear Vulcan didn’t see much action anyway. Anyway my hand slipped and I found myself looking into the eyes of my canonically psychotic son the best Summers brother who’s never done anything wrong in his entire life, (he’s done lotsa wrong things but I love him more for it)
#canonically psychotic = he canonically has psychosis. (not in the ableist way in that hes evil. which he is. lemme enjoy problematic rep)#Gabriel Summers#art by seaweed#words by seaweed#X-Men Red#the Gabriel hate during the Krakoa era pffffft. was 100% from ppl who didnt read the Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire#“he attacked Storm” hes also a genocidal dictator who tortures ppl for catharsis. drunkenly coming at Ororo is the least bad thing he did#“he's a douche” mother of all understatements. now get this man back w his boyfriend who he forced to be his best man under pain of death#Gabriel fans LOVE that Ororo beat his ass. he deserved it. it was a fake discourse made up by a certain segment of goddess!Ororo fans#I say as an Ororo fan! Shes my fav A-list x-man🥰 yes Gabe was at a mental low but Ororo didnt know that. that was Scott's responsibility.#psychotic Emperor Vulcan is what we call a problematic mentally ill villain trope. I love him SO much. (okay lets talk)#we don’t know much about his childhood but we do know he spent 2 years in a fugue state after escaping slavers when he was like ten ):#as an “adult”-ish he's uh “mentally” 15 or sumn according to the calculations claimed to him by his hallucination of his actual child self#and apart from THOSE hallucinations. he’s very paranoid to the point of killing his advisors because he becomes convinced-#that they’re plotting to kill him. they aren't. he relies on Calseye to ground him thru his paranoia. and then of course in the Krakoa era#he believes his energy constructs of Petra and Sway who drink with him till he blacks out every single day are real. he isnt consciously#creating them; but he sees them- and bc he’s a godlike mutant his subconscious makes his hallucinations visible. making everyone uncomfy#Charles tries to use telepathy to FORCIBLY reality check him. which of course triggers his trauma. and GABE is punished for it?#(oh plus our finding out Gabe got brain surgery done on him by some gods outside the universe offpanel. he never does well with tampering)#and now the writers who pushed Hickman out (also RIP Sabretooth & the Exiles. RIP Hellions) want us to be SAD Krakoa is gone?#yes Gabriel is the mentally ill villain trope. but Krakoa never cared for mutants who couldn’t fit in. who were traumatized. disabled. etc#Alex OF ALL PEOPLE should understand that. ALEX should’ve been there for Gabriel. (why wasn't he. did he hold a grudge for past torture.)#Alex also w Murder-Enjoying Disorder but it was actually treated as an illness and those in authority presented as wrong for excluding him#instead of helping him. which v flawed but Hellions was one of the best mental illness comics? like Zeb Wells was conscious of the genre#but Gabriel was just… cast out. for panicking when his prime traumatizer Charles invaded his mind. he deserved help too#and all because his family were annoyed at him for drinking all night and throwing up and passing out on the floor? for being delusional?#And like- all of the summers brothers are nd (Scott's brain damage; Alex's dissociative episodes; Gabriel's psychosis)#I have nothing to say about Adam X ((I highly doubt he's neurotypical and/or mentally healthy)) ((nothing to say abt him tho))#and Gabes paranoia is 100% rooted in his issues of being made to feel like an outsider. like YES the obvious MUTANT identity but also#he thinks his father abandoned him to be a slave. he's not Summers enough for Scott. hes not Shi'ar enough for the Shi'ar

Was Anyone But You a good Much Ado About Nothing adaptation? No, not at all, but fuck it was fun!
#y’all know I have many thoughts about this play and these characters#but even though the movie didn’t completely live up to my expectations as an adaptation#I still really enjoyed it!#and I really despise all those people making posts about how sydney sweeney can’t act#idk it seems a little rude#my main problem is how they messed up the benedick and beatrice characterization and dynamic#I love that they played up the ex lovers thing (which is left up to interpretation in the play)#and i love love queer Hero and Claudio!!!#but their hatred of each other didn’t really pack the same punch as in the original#I suppose I wish they weren’t afraid to make the characters bigger assholes?#ya know- give them more flaws?#because right now the enemies part doesn’t really feel believable for big parts of the movie#They really could have leaned more into making Bea a bit of a cold and snappy mess (as she is in the original)#and Ben more of…ya know…actual human disaster who can’t commit#both of their characters in the play are driven by their desire never to marry and their distrust for the opposite sex#They included this a bit with Bea (her not believing in true love and all that)#but her break up with Jonathan (because he was too nice???) didn’t really convince me of it#They also keep insisting that Ben is a fuckboy but we never really see it demonstrated?#I personally don’t mind the fact that they changed up the whole ‘convincing them that the other secretly loves them’ bit#especially considering this is only loosely based on much ado#but I do think they made it a bit messy considering they included the gulling scenes but only as a joke#I wish they’d either leaned fully into the much ado plot or ditched it#I think what a lot of adaptations get wrong is that they’re either too afraid of leaning into their og media#or too afraid of seperating themselves from the og media#oh god I’ve reached the tag limit help#anyways- rant over#anyone but you#maria talks about things#much ado about nothing#beatrice x benedick

i’m not yet fully sure how to annunciate this but satine kyrze in clone wars is written in such a way that the writers misogyny is inextricable from her character for me and it’s very hard to like her or hate her or really cohere what she could have been. like the relationship that damara has to hussie’s racism in homestuck but without the handmaid. maybe it’s my own thing but all portrayal of her positive or negative falls flat to me bc it’s so removed from what her character is or it’s too fucking sexist to stomach

climbs back onto the stage to continue a two day old post. also people hating rachel bc she’s rich suck bro she’s 15 what do u want her to do 😭 rr likes writing rich people with helicopters it’s not her fault
#haha i tricked u by making a small little post. now i will continue the two day old post's tags >:]#rachel was: well within her rights to like percy. also to kiss him. he reciprocated and she backed off easily when he didnt#percy was: well with his rights to like both rachel and annabeth. also to kiss rachel. annabeth has zero ownership over him#even if she’s his best friend who likes him. percy’s communication skills or whatever idk#i haven’t read the books in 30 years are not awful. you could argue he’s leading them on but i disagree bc He doesn’t even know what he want#also rachel is in a unique position of being a mortal that understands him and can keep him company during the school year and#it’s not hard to see why percy would be drawn to that. sometimes love triangles go beyond the people it’s about the kind of life he wants.#also he's 15 lol 😭#annabeth was: well within her rights to like percy and to be jealous that her crush is hanging out with a girl that likes him.#she was Not: within her rights to treat rachel badly. at all. she was very needlessly rude.#she also has deep set problems with abandonment that gives her behavior context but does not make it right. part of reading a series abt#teenagers is seeing them mess up and act immaturely. annabeth would not be a compelling character if she was born always right and flawless.#been growing up and becoming their best selves Together for years. a flawless annabeth with a flawed percy would suck for both#of them. her fatal flaw is literally hubris omg it’s not hashtag girlboss to make the female lead perfect 😭#LISTEN. love triangles are so interesting when done right. what does it say about the character that they’re drawn to#these different people. what does it say about the life they want or the mindsets they value. what does it say about them when#they choose someone. beyond choosing a partner what kind of life are they choosing. what exactly are they committing to.#what made them realize this. and what does it say that they ever seriously considered the one who was rejected. romance is often written#as a tool for character development and there are specific themes surrounding the process and the conclusion.#best example for this is the hunger games (which obviously is not similar to pjo at all lol.)#percabeth is more compelling when u accept that percy Actually liked rachel and was considering a relationship with her and#by extension a life more tied to the mortal world.#also if you read all this [sicko meme voice] HAHA YES now u have to join my discussion circle.  please answer my questions:#1. Do you think it’s more acceptable to be “the other girl” in media nowadays?#2. List an example of a love triangle you believe was handled well. What did it bring to the story#and what does it say about the themes and characters involved?#3. Is there a piece of media you wish had a different romantic pairing for a character that would’ve have deepened the themes#of the story more than the actual pairing? Does the canon pairing take away from the themes or do you just think it’s less effective?#4. if you have a sad cat picture please send it to me im running out

the thing abt rowena and alistair that kills me is how her making him king is (in her head) an act of love in the same way her parents sending her with duncan against her will was
#forcing fate on another bc it’s your only means of protecting them#dooming them to a life they never wanted but at least they’ll live a few years long#*longer#in her head there isn’t even a choice and that is fucked up!! of course there’s a choice!! his choice!!#bc in her head as long as he is alive he’s a threat to the crown and people will never leave him be#and she can’t trust anora because anora is too much like her and she’s already been wounded by the people in power#too much to trust anyone other than herself#so she makes him king and promises she’ll carry all of the burden and he relents only because he loves her#it’s so messed up !! tbqh !! warden alistair is the ideal to me#but it’s just not something rowena would do#there’s commentary about how a deeply traumatized TWENTY YEAR OLD should not be the one deciding the fate of a country#too much power in the hands of a girl so angered at those whose actions put her there#idk why i’m rambling i just. that decision is awful yet so complex. there’s so much going on there and so much that intersects !!#her and alistair her and anora her and eamon and loghain and howe…..#i know ppl hate when alistair isn’t a warden and especially when he’s still softened while made king it’s just !! it’s abt The Narrative 😔#and they end up okay. they do. they’re okay. he doesn’t hate her for it. they love each other Too Much. it’s just !! u know !! a flaw !!#anyways.txt#ch: rowena cousland#x: a soft epilogue

there is something kind of endearing about artists writing think pieces on having to engage in the humiliating act of social media self promotion as if no artists have ever had to do anything like it ever before. And then reading early impressionists writing about the stifling indignity of participating in Parisian salons just to get access to collectors. And earlier artists writing about the soul crushing offense of accepting murals and public works and decorative pieces just to get more important commissions.

How to Create A Villain
The best villains? They don’t even see themselves as the bad guys. They’re 100% convinced that what they’re doing is right, even if it’s messed up. Maybe they’re trying to “save the world” by doing something super questionable, or they think enforcing strict rules is the only way to keep society in check. They truly believe they’re the hero of their own story, which makes them way more interesting and real.
And Yeah, your villain might want power, but the real question is: Why? Were they humiliated in the past and now want control? Did they grow up powerless and now crave it to avoid being vulnerable again? When you dig into their backstory and show us why they’re doing horrible things, it makes them a lot more relatable—even if they’re totally wrong.
Flat, one-note villains are boring. If your antagonist is going to stick with people, they need depth. Show us what’s going on under the surface. Maybe they lie awake at night, doubting their choices, or they’re still haunted by a massive failure that’s pushing them toward their goal. A villain with personal struggles and vulnerabilities feels way more human and way harder to fully
A great Villain doesn’t just fight the hero, they reflect them. They might have totally different goals, but at their core, they share similar traits, maybe ambition, stubbornness, or a tragic backstory. When the hero looks at the villain, they should see a bit of themselves, and that’s what makes the conflict between them so intense.
When the villain finally goes down, it should feel big. Their defeat shouldn’t just be a fight, it should hit them emotionally. Ideally, their downfall comes from their own flaws, maybe they got too arrogant or made a mistake because of their obsessive goal. The best villain defeats leave the audience feeling a little sad or conflicted, not just happy for the hero’s win.

I think the beautiful thing about the Broppy relationship is how they impact one another.
Tumblr media
Branch’s impact on Poppy is the most obvious in the movies because he’s the one who teaches her to calm down and listen.
But what I think people overlook is the fact that despite her flaws, Poppy never gave up on Branch. Because as cute as they are now, there was a time when Branch was actually pretty cruel to her (ie. Putting her down, smashing her custom made invitations for him in front of her face, mocking her ideals, etc) and probably had been treating her like that for years before movie #1.
Tumblr media
Everyone else had given up on him, basically deeming him as a lost cause, but Poppy never stopped trying. Yes Branch got on her nerves and hurt her feelings, and as far as she knew he would just throw her invitations away afterwards. Yet despite that she still put in the effort to make him custom invitations and genuinely want him to be there.
Tumblr media
And even though he never dared express it, those efforts meant something to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like we love Branch, but I don’t think we give Poppy enough credit for her role in Branch’s life. He was unkind (to put it lightly) to her for years, but despite that she never held any resentment towards him and still felt that he deserved to be happy. And by that incredible persistence, she worked her way into his heart.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, Branch is a character who is completely used to tragedy and people he loves leaving in his life. So that’s partially why he pushed Poppy away and treated her so poorly. But despite that, Poppy was always THERE. She was with him when literally nobody else was. She was naive, optimistic and annoying, but she was there. Always putting the effort to be his friend, and the only one who had any sort of faith in him. He may have been isolated, but because of Poppy he was never truly alone. And even if it irked him, he still appreciated that.
Tumblr media
And when somebody sticks with you literally no matter what, it’s not surprising that he fell more than a little bit in love.
Tumblr media
As for Poppy, she’s slowly becoming aware that she can be a bit much sometimes. She always wants the best for her people but she doesn’t always know how to do that. Branch, even if originally rude about it, has always been able to give it to her straight. And even if he pretended not to care, he still had her back when it mattered the most. And after number one, it looks like he has her back more than ever while still being able to be the voice of reason. Which yes, Poppy definitely needs.
Tumblr media
(Gah I wish I could put more pictures to elaborate my point but y’all get it.)
Anyway. They’re not perfect characters, but they are perfect for each other. Branch supports Poppy but gives it to her flat out. Meanwhile Poppy too supports Branch and is stubborn enough to stick by him, even when he’ll intentionally and/or unintentionally push her away. And that’s just gorgeous.

Libra Venus’s are usually so artistically gifted but rarely ever believe in their talents. They’re usually really good at thinks like interior design, party planning/decorating, makeup ect. I notice most never believe they’re that good but the stuff they create is so aesthetically pleasing. If they get confident enough they have the ability to run a really successful business just off their creative
Venus in Leo’s also have amazing artistic talent but the only difference is they have a lot more confidence showcasing their art compared to Libra Venus who’s more indecisive about if their work should be displayed. Most Leo Venus’s I meet are amazing drawers and painters and usually make money from their creativity easy. Also this placement is very ambitious, most I see are well educated and usually make a good amount of money ( probably because of their love for luxury they tend to strive higher than most).
Mercury in the 12th house people are always complaining on how no one understands them but also refuses to talk about themselves.
Scorpio moons I feel like are way more sensitive than cancer and Pisces moons. They just conceal it better.
Capricorn moon are the worst people to vent to imo. It’s like emotions are completely foreign to you them you’ll be crying about ur feeling and they’ll just stare at you like “•—•” Aquarius moons can be like that too but I feel like they’re more open to listening to your feelings while cap moons choose to avoid them completely
On the flip side cancer moons I feel like are the best to vent too. I feel like talking to them is such a no judge zone they’ll just listen to you and support you. They’re natural made therapists!
I notice a lot of Virgo suns are obsessed with being popular or seen as “cool”. It’s probably due to their perfectionist tendencies. Can act a little fake to get people to admire them (ESPECIALLY with Libra placements).
Cancer suns with Gemini placements can be big copy cats
Aquarius moons really love music. They have the most unhinged playlists though😂
Usually cancer Venus’s get married and start a family very young. They mature fast in a romantic sense.
Pisces Venus’s attract so many admirers (it’s an exhalted placement) but because of this they can never make up their mind on who to settle down with. No one talks about how bad these people’s commitment issues are especially the men. They can be more indecisive than libra Venus’s.
Virgo moons stop giving advice no one asks for. Lecturing people about their flaws 24/7 will not help fix them
Venus in retrograde individuals tend to lack a lot of social etiquette. People usually perceive these people as rude or disrespectful.
People with Capricorn and Aquarius in their chart are just tooo cool. Everything they do they make look really cool even if they’re picking their nose. They give off a confidence vibe like they just know what they’re doing which causes a lot of people to follow them or try to impress them. Giving CEO vibes.
Aqua Venus’s are really attractive when they act nonchalant and don’t care. The more the look like they don’t care they draw mad ppl in.
Taurus moons are called boring a lot by their peers
Saturn in 5th & 7th house 🤝 taking things way too seriously when it should be fun
