Are there any other designs from the new seasons you would like to have your hand in, whether they be on the girls or boys? Like for me I can't really get over Juleka's like green lipstick because it just comes out of nowhere to me, I know you did a design where she was wearing it, but at least she wore green in her clothing in the time to match the makeup to her outfit. As for Adrien, his design barely changed, which could be symbolic, but how would you tackle that?

Yeaaaah, Juleka's green lipstick is NOT it for me, and I think her new outfit is really boring. I'll probably wait for a more Juleka centered episode to tackle it since I'll get a better view of the whole thing 360 (kinda why I held off on Sabrina, Rose was an exception). That's kinda how I feel about most of the characters: wait to see it in action. That's how Mylene's whole HEAD fell out of favor for me - longer dreads with smooth bangs and GREEN EYE SHADOW?! Did they think we were ripping on Chloe's blue eye shadow because of the COLOR?! But hey! Pride Flag Pin!

That's what I mean. I can't see the details until they're in the episode. Right now we have "Daddycop" for the top half of the girls and the OP for everything else.

Now for Adrien, I can kinda tell they're going with SyMbOLiSm so I'll let that one rest until we get a full scope of where they're going with it. For my opinion, I only wish it was like worse? Like great his hair is flat now that he's not styling it to Daddy's Specifications, but can we get, like...cowlicks? Chat Noir hair? And the wrinkled, un-ironed shirt with the floppy collar is a good start. I'm not sure how to improve this except to make the wrinkles more noticeable? Some audience members might not notice these details as signs of Adrien being "less perfect" because they might write them off as just quirks of the new animation style, which is why I think they should've pushed it a little harder.

But I'm not gonna totally dunk of them for being subtle in their visuals. I like "aha!" moments that don't take away from the plot if you notice or don't.

Nothing feels real. Your mouth and lips are numb, your ears are ringing and you feel like you cannot breathe.

You gasp desperately for air, trying to force some oxygen into your lungs, while you press your hand against your chest, which feels tight and strange. The stinging pain between or under your ribs does not make things any better.

You hold on to your armchair with your other hand, which is in front of the lit fireplace in your and Aegon's marital chambers.

Aegon... Two weeks ago you were married in the Great Sept and became husband and wife.

At first you had your doubts, but so far he has done nothing to make you regret this union. Yes, he is a drunkard and yes he takes his nightly duties as a husband very seriously, but you like that. You like him.

And in return you know that he values ​​you just as much.

But how would he react if he saw you now? Weak, frail, gasping for air, shaking all over and with tears running down your cheeks?

Weak.

That is what your father always called you when you had another of those attacks. The maesters assured you that it was from all the stress a young woman like you must be feeling - or just the general fact that you are a woman - but nothing helps you fight it.

It feels like you are dying.

And all the questions that are going through your head are only making it worse. The voices in your head are screaming at you that there must be something wrong with your heart and that you will collapse at any moment and no longer be there, or that it must be something with your head.

It frightens you terribly and you cannot escape this vicious circle of bad thoughts.

Not far from the fireplace and the armchair you are leaning against, the door opens and Aegon comes running in, a grin on his face, as he is happy to finally be alone with his beautiful new wife.

But then suddenly his eyes fall on you and he immediately realizes that something is very wrong.

"Wife?" he asks you carefully, whereupon you sob even louder. It breaks his heart.

He approaches you with quick steps and gently puts a hand on your shoulder. "My beloved... what is wrong?"

For the first time in what feels like hours, you look up and almost feel relieved, were it not for the shortness of breath and the feeling of pulling in your chest, as well as the fear of losing your life.

It is your greatest fear. You do not want the Stranger to come and get you. You still want to experience so much. You still have your whole life ahead of you and you want to spend it with your husband and give him heirs and raise them. You want to be a mother, a grandmother. You cannot die yet.

"Darling, talk to me," Aegon begs, taking your face in his hands so that you have to look into his beautiful amethyst colored eyes.

The sight of him and his obvious concern for you touched you to the core and you can't do anything but cry even harder, tears rolling down your flushed cheeks.

"I-I can't breathe," you finally answer him, whereupon his eyes widen and he strokes his thumbs soothingly over the soft flesh of your cheeks.

"Then we breathe together, do you hear me?" he assures you and takes a deep breath.

You try to imitate him, but you can't. The panic grew. What if there really was something wrong with you? What if you were to die in his arms right now?

"Listen to me, darling. Look at me and breathe with me.”

The prince takes a long breath, holding the air for four seconds before slowly letting it out again. Criston taught him this one evening when he was suffering from something similar. He had been so afraid back then, which his grandsire kept shouting at him for, but since then he has learned that fear is not a weakness. On the contrary. It makes you strong.

You can feel how slowly but surely your lungs are filling up with air again and the dizziness is also subsiding. The feeling in your right side, it is strange and inexplicable, remains, however. As always.

Sometimes it seems as if you are dazed or not the same person.

“I don’t want to die, Aegon. Aegon, please, I can’t, I-“ you beg in sheer panic.

Your lord husband mmediately shakes his head and gently wipes the tears from your cheeks. He can’t bear to see you like this. And your words? What has gotten into you? What is going on?

"You will not die, my love. I am here. I am with you and nothing can happen to you. I promise you that I will fight the Stranger with my bare hands if he comes to take you away from me," he promises you and nods his head gently to show you that he means it.

"As long as I am here, nothing can happen to you."

Slowly you feel yourself being able to breathe again, the pain in your chest subsiding and the dizziness slowly fading, although you can still feel it lurking in the background.

The feelings are always there. They lurk in the depths of your mind and suddenly burst out of you.

During the last few days they have not been so strong and you almost had the feeling that the gods finally had compassion on you and took them away from you. Apparently that is not the case.

And now your beloved knows about it. About your shame.

"Better?" Aegon asks you gently, whereupon you nod hesitantly, but you can immediately feel new tears forming in your eyes. Tears of exhaustion and relief.

"Yes," you sob quietly and Aegon cannot help but hold you close and stroke your back with his hands.

"Oh, my poor darling. I did not know you were suffering so much. You should have told me," he whispers, pressing a few gentle kisses to your hair.

You buried your head in the fabric of his tunic, which was soaked with the salty water of your tears. Neither you nor he was interested in that right now.

All he wanted was for you to get better. He can't bear to see you like this.

"I did not want to look weak in your eyes."

Aegon immediately shakes his head and presses a few more kisses to your pretty head.

"You are not weak, wife. You are anything but that. You are so strong," he murmurs, kissing your forehead lovingly.

Your body is still shaking and you can feel the tiredness overcoming you. Your anxiety attack has completely overwhelmed you and left you even weaker.

"I love you. With all my heart. And I will always be here for you, do you hear me?"

His words melt your heart and a new wave of sadness overwhelms you and tears fall down your face again.

"Shhh, my girl, I'm here," he whispers before gently lifting you in his arms and carrying you to the bed.

He lovingly lays you down on the soft sheets and lies down next to you and immediately takes you in his arms. Your head rests on his chest and you listen to his calming heartbeat and enjoy the warmth of his body.

"Sleep, my love. I'll be here when you wake up."

The uncomfortable feeling is still there, but your eyes are heavy and you have slowly closed them and are falling into a dreamless sleep with your beloved husband by your side.

And you know you are safe with him.

Twisted Wonderland x F!Reader - 3,400 words

Synopsis: Transported from another world, this poor girl just can’t seem to say no!

This is the only chapter of this book I’ve written so I won’t link it at the bottom :) Please don’t Steal! ^^

All you could remember was sitting at your desk finishing up your homework.  It was late, maybe around Eleven PM.  You rubbed your eyes, trying to rub away the weariness that had crept up on you.  You looked out your window and absentmindedly counted the cars.

One.. Two.. Three.. Wait.. that one wasn’t a car.  Approaching down the lane was an ebony black carriage being pulled by two horses of the same color.  It looked like it came straight out of a fantasy novel.  The silvery decor and the regal way in which it was pulled.  The next thing you remember was blacking out.  Huh.. guess you were more tired than you thought..

When you thought you opened your eyes you weren’t met with the sight of the morning light seeping through your window.  Instead, you were only met with more black.  We’re you still dreaming..?

You reached forward as if you were reaching towards the sky only for your hand to hit a wall.  Wait a minute.

WERE YOU TRAPPED!? You started feeling around you in more of a panic.  A wall on either side of you as if you were trapped within a box of some sort.  You pushed on the one in front of you.  It didn’t budge.  You pushed harder, beginning to hit it until you felt a slight shift in its weight.

With one more push you managed to push it off of you and sit up.  The room was filed with floating coffins and mirrors on every wall.  You looked to your right and there sat a dumbfounded little.. cat? He was adorable!  You smiled to yourself and reached out to pet it.

“Hey! Don’t pet me, human!” He shouted and you retracted your hand faster than you thought possible.

”Y-you can talk—!?” 

“Yeah! I’m Grim! Gimme your uniform, Hurry up!” The little cat with the flaming blue ears clawed at your uncoordinated.  Which you do NOT remember putting on, ever, in your life.  OH! This was a DREAM! And you would wake up any second now, Yeah.

”Why do you need the uniform..?” You asked softly as you picked the cat up, a little less afraid now that you knew it was a ‘dream’.

”PUT ME DOWN, HUMAAAN!!” He shouted and squirmed before going limp with an unamused expression.  As he was squirming his claw grazed your skin.  It hurt.  “Because I’m going to be a great mage! And to do that I need to enroll in Night Raven College, so give me your uniform!” 

His little paws reached out once more, trying to grab ahold of the hood on your clothing.  You held him up in the air as he struggled.  His claw hurt.  The reality that this may not be a dream hit you like a bus.

”Grim- WHERE AM I!?” You shouted in a panic.

”Wha!? You’re in night Raven College.  This is why you should give me your uniform, you’re clearly far more inferior to me, I deserve to go to this school more than you!”

”J-Just give me a minute, you can have it.  I’m not sure what Night Raven College is but you seem very determined!” Your expression was grim, the fact that this very well is reality was making you dizzy.  Mages and a magic school..?

“Yeah!!” The cat grinned and cheered.  “That’s what I’m talking about!”

You were about to start removing your uniform when a hand grabbed your wrist to stop you.

”Could you not be patient? And do not remove your uniform, it must stay on during the entirety of the entrance ceremony, didn’t you read the pamphlet?” The man who had grabbed your wrist was dressed in.. odd attire.  With black feathers attached to his shoulders and a Crow-like mask.

“And please make sure to keep your familiar on a tighter leash-“ It was only now that he paused and really examined your face.  “You’re not a boy.”

”N-no, sir-! I’m not-“ You gulped.  Who was this guy?? The cat in your arms squirmed and thrashed around.

”Lemme go!” He screeched.

”Goodness, young lady please quiet down your animal.” 

“Grim- can you please stop for a moment..?”

The cat grumbled and growled at being ordered around (even though you asked politely) but ultimately settled down with his paws crossed.

”Good.  Now, I believe you are in the wrong school, Miss.  there must’ve been a mix up with the magic.  Worry not though, for I am ever so gracious! I’ll allow you to stay here until the dark mirror can send you right on back home!” He smiled brightly as if he just solved world hunger.  “But that’ll have to wait until after the ceremony, please come this way!”

You held onto the grumpy feline and started hesitantly following the Crow man.  Stranger danger after all.  But he seemed nice enough.  A bit eccentric but no malicious intent.  He led you to just outside the room with mirrors and told you to stay right there before going back inside.  You sat down on a bench with.. apparently your new cat? In your lap.  He wasn’t happy about it though.

”MYAAAAH! Lemme go, Human! I need to be in there for the entrance ceremony!” 

“But he said to wait right here…” 

“And what’s this?” A guy walked up dressed in the same robes you were in.  Why is he allowed to be that pretty-?

The man in question had perfect skin and blonde hair that faded to a lavender and not a single hair was out of place.  He had to be a model.

”You’re a girl.” He stated flatly.  “I’m guessing Crowley made some mistake?” 

His tone suggested that he wasn’t surprised in the least, almost as if he expected it.  He sighed and looked you up and down.

”Even if you were summoned by accident you should always be sure to look your best.” He straightened out your uniform and adjusted your hair.  “And keep the cat away from your face.  The dust in its fur are awful for your skin.” He smiled at his work and entered the room you just came out of.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED!? You didn’t even get a word in before he left!  He fixed you up like it was no big deal, gave some skin care advice and left.  What a guy.  You honestly were obligated to listen because he looked flawless.  Like Aphrodite walked out of a painting in male form.

A few other students walked by and you started connecting the dots as to why the crow man was so concerned about you being a girl.  Every student here was a boy.  Mostly you got puzzled looks from passers by but a few stared for longer than necessary.  Of course, it’s a ton of teenage boys who probably hadn’t seen a girl all school year.  

Though all of a sudden you felt the states stop.  The guys passing by would look at you then at the ground quickly.  Noticeably avoiding the gaze of another approaching student.  He looked quite a bit older than the majority, equipped with lion ears and a tail at that.  He stopped and looked at you for a second, his eyes narrowing before turning back to look at the group of guys that was originally leering at you.  

You couldn’t see his face but he sent them a nasty glare.  They started sweating bullets and profusely apologized before quickly heading into the mirror room behind you.  The lion man looked back down at you sitting on the bench with your mouthy little cat who didn’t notice a thing.  In fact, he’s been pouting the entire time about not being let inside the chamber.

”Be careful.” Was all the man towering above you said before entering the room after the guys who were caught staring at you.  I didn’t smell any magic on her..

You swung your feet back and forth on the bench while simultaneously keeping your new stress ball (Grim) under control.  After what felt like hours (it’s been 15 minutes) people finally started filing out of the room behind you.  Now, you assumed the crow guy would keep good on his word and.. send you back home..? Hah.. yeah.. you’re still having a hard time wrapping your head around the fact that this is quite possibly a new world.. 

“Young Lady!” The not so familiar voice called.  “So sorry about the delay, we should get a move on now!” He wrapped an arm around your shoulder and guided you over to a mirror with a face in it.

“I’ll be sure to send your family a coupon to a movie theater near you as an apology for the trouble!  Aren’t I so kind?”

You raised a brow but smiled politely anyway.

”Yes.. thank you very much..”

Grim, now realizing this was his chance to escape your oddly tight grab, wriggled away and landed on the ground.

”She wasn’t supposed to be here! Give me her uniform and let me enroll!” He demanded and the crow man frowned at him.

”Your familiar is quite talkative.  But worry not, for i won’t be serving him for dinner.”

Both you and Grim looked appalled at the mere IDEA of serving the poor cat for dinner.

“Now, Oh dark mirror, send this soul back to where she came!” 

For a few seconds there was nothing.  The face in the mirror closed its eyes for a moment before looking back up.

”Nowhere.”  It states plainly.

”U-uh.. oh.  Hm, lets try this again.  Oh Dark-“

”This soul belongs nowhere.” It repeats.  “I see nowhere with rain no snow that this soul originated from.”

”W-what does that mean..?” You asked nervously.

”There is no magic emanating from this soul.” It added.

”Hm… Dear, what was your name?”

”[Name], sir..”

”Can you tell me the name of the country you hail from?”

”Yeah, it’s [Country Name].”

”…I see.  Are you certain that’s the name?” 

“Yes.”

“There is nowhere in all of Twisted Wonderland that I can recall having that name.” He pinches his chin between his pointer finger and thumb in a thinking position.  “Do you perhaps have a form of ID on you?”

You searched your pockets.  You obviously didn’t have your wallet on you since you were only studying when.. this whole situation happened.  Problem was, you couldn’t find your phone either, which you definitely had on you.

”No.. I don’t..”

There was another pause from the man before you followed by a short sigh and a bright smile.

”Well, that just won’t do! The only thing I can think of is that you’re fibbing about your origins or you’re not of this world.”

“Yeah.. kind of figured that out.”

“I’m not one to turn down a poor soul in need without a cent to her name.  You can stay here until we find a way to send you on back home!”

”I can-!?  But where would I stay?”

”Well, you can’t stay in any of the seven main dorms.  Those you have to be assigned to.” He snapped his fingers like he had a bright idea.  “You can stay in the old Ramshackle Dorm!  It’s old and probably needs a few fixes but I’m sure you can manage, right?  Oh, but, since you won’t be an official student of this school for obvious reasons you will need to pay rent.

”R-right..” You gulped.  Anything with ‘Ramshackle’ in the name didn’t exactly sound appealing.. “And I understand rent.. but how do I pay..? I don’t have any money.”

”I’ve already thought of the perfect plan! Instead of paying rent in cash you and your familiar can work as janitors! Doesn’t that sound fun?”

”Yeah.. thank you for the opportunity.” You managed a small smile.

”Wonderful! Follow me and.. bring your familiar along with you.”

”I’M NOT HER FAMILIAR!!! I’M—“ 

Poor Grim was cut off by you scooping him up and squeezing him in a hug.  The poor direbeast couldn’t even fight against it.

”The girl outside the mirror chamber was quite beautiful.  A better skincare routine to take care of those acne scars and she’ll be absolutely stunning.”  Vil recounted to his Vice Housewarden.

”Oh mon! She sounds like a work of art!” His Vice responded, looking forward to observing her on campus.

“Crowley screwed something up.  That old bird.. There’s a girl mistakenly attending Night Raven now.”  Leona yawned.  “Make sure to keep her out of trouble.  Or, more likely, keep trouble away from her.”

”Shishishi~ You got it, boss.” The Hyena by his side responded with a smirk.

“This… This is Ramshackle?” You stared at the old dilapidated building.  A piece of wood just fell off the side.  Great.

”Isn’t it charming?” The man, whom you learned to be Crowley, remarked.

”Certainly..” You sweatdropped.  “It certainly has.. character.”

”It sucks.” Grim deadpanned.  “Is this even livable?”

”I knew you would adore it! Now, come on inside.” He pushed you towards the porch.  Halfway up the steps you expected a gust of wind to blow and for the building to go with it.  You walked in with Grim glaring daggers at the walls and windows.

“I’ll be sure to bring you dinner later tonight.  For now, get settled in!” Crowley bowed and disappeared.

”I don’t wanna live here, Human!” Grim whined as he squirmed out of your arms.  “This is no place for a great mage like me to live!”

”We’ll have to make due..” You ruffled his fur.

”EEK! Human! The roof is leaking!” The feline screeched as he felt a drop of water land on his nose.

”I’ll go find a bucket-“

Grim cling to your leg as you searched through a nearby closet to find a bucket to place under the leak.

”Need some help?” A sudden voice you did NOT recognize sounded from behind you.  You nearly jumped out of your skin and threw the bucket at the voice.  It phased right through the figure.

”Hey, calm down, young lady.” It was a ghost in a top hat!

”Yeah, we don’t mean no harm.” His buddy smiled.

”We were gonna scare you but you seem shaken up enough.” A third chimes in.

”Oh.. uh..”

”ITS A GHOOOOSTT!!” Grin screamed and clung tighter.  “[N-NAME] GET RID OF IT!  OF THEM! MYAAAAAAHHHHH!!”

”Your pet is quite the chatterbox..” The first ghost chuckled.

”Grim, they seem nice, calm down.” You gave a reassuring smile to your feline friend.

”Yep! Come on, there’s one bedroom that doesn’t leak.” The second ghost starts leading you up the stairs and opens the door to a simple little bedroom with a big mirror hanging on the far wall.

”Thank you so much!” You smiled.

So bright.. they all thought unanimously.  The first ghost was the first to snap out of his daze.

”There should be some dry blankets in the closet.”

”And we made sure to clean the mattress when we saw the Headmage approaching with you!”

”Hmmmm.” Grin smirked.  “Appreciated.  How about I make you my henchman as well!”

“…Would he like a cat bed?” One of them asked and the others burst out laughing.  What a lively bunch!

”Maybe!” You answered.

”NO! I’m sleeping in the bed!” Grim huffed and jumped up on the plush mattress.  No dust flew up in the air when he did, the ghosts really did clean in here!

”We’ll leave ya be now.”

”Yeah! If you need anything extra there’s a school shop not too far.  We’ll put in a good word for you!” They all smiled.

”Thank you so much!” You we’re almost tearing up at how welcoming they were.  Your panic about a brand new world was fading the more the ghosts laughed and joked with you.

“Bye, young lady!” They all said in union before fading out of the room.

”See? Ghosts aren’t so bad!” You flopped down on the bed and grabbed ahold of Grim.  By now he had already figured out that struggling was futile and let you snuggle him.  Though, you did keep him away from your face like the stunning boy from before had recommended.

“Yeah, Yeah.. Tomorrow though, I’m gonna be ruling this school.” He yawned.

”Grim, you’re not a student.” You smirked.

”I’LL GET THERE EVENTUALLY!” 

After a few more minutes of back and forth between you two Grim fell asleep on his belly.  All curled up and absolutely adorable!  You followed him soon after, fading into sleep.. something like being sucked into a whole new world was something you only thought could happen once upon a dream..

Crowley popped up in your room a few minutes later with your dinner only to find you asleep.  He wasn’t sure of what to do but decided not to leave it or it would go bad.  He’s just make sure you got double breakfast in the morning.  After all, he is ever so gracious!  The ghosts ended up kicking him out.  

In all honesty, you slept pretty well for a girl who was sent to another world to an all boys school of magic, now live in a dilapidated old dorm with several ghosts, and adopted a flaming cat.  All in one day.  Actually, less than a day.

You woke up to a nice day.  The storm from the previous night had passed and the building didn’t blow over so that was a win! Grim was still dead asleep so you quietly stalked downstairs and found.. another ghost..? Only this one had a chef hat.

”Morning!” All four ghosts greet as they notice you.

”How was your first night in Ramshackle?” 

“It was pretty good.  Thank you again for cleaning the bed.”  You smiled.

”It was our pleasure! We’re happy to have new roommates!” 

The ghost with the chefs hat lays out two plates and stacks them full of pancakes, syrup, and fruit.

”Woah-!” You gasped.  “Is this..?”

”Welcome to Night Raven, kid!” The chef hat ghost smiled.  “We heard that your summoning was an accident and that you’re not even from this world so we wanted to make your first day a good one.”

You actually teared up.  They were all so welcoming!  This was so unlike what it was like at your school in your old world..

”Thank you..” 

“Woah, hey! No tears!” They all panicked thinking they had upset you.  Did you hate pancakes that much!? Are you allergic to fruit!?

”No, no! I’m so relieved..” You chuckle.  “I was afraid I would have to start completely on my own.. I don’t know anyone besides Crowley and Grim now..”

”Well you have us now too!”

”Yeah! If anyone needs a good scare just give us a call.”

”You should eat.  You and Grim are janitors now, yeah? Gotta eat a good breakfast if you’re going to clean this massive school!” The ghost grabbed a non-busted chair and set it in front of the table for you.

”IS THAT FOOD-!?”

Grim came bounding down the steps like a man starved.  He was grinning ear to ear.

”YEAH!  Pancakes!  Do you have some tuna you can put on it?” 

“Uh- no, I don’t believe so.” The chef ghost answered.

”Awh, bummer.  That would’ve totally made them the best. Well, food is food! Down the hatch!” He swallowed his whole plate of pancakes whole without a second thought.

”Careful!” You shouted in worry.  “You’ll choke!”

He swallowed and smiled triumphantly before his eyes zoned in on your stack of pancakes.

”No, Grim!” Everyone shouted and he pouted.

Ok so HISTORICAL background for the guy first of all because I think some of it is relevant to his show portrayal:

His family moved to Ireland in his grandparents generation because they wanted to become Protestant and needed the freedom. So therefore much like Crozier Des Voeux was actually Irish but like Hickey claims, he really did spend more of his life in England—because he started in the military at the ripe age of, wait for it… ELEVEN—which was partially to suppress his accent and partially to avoid culture bias. His family last name was NOT Des Voeux originally; his grandfather changed it from the original de Bacquencourt.

Also devastating, weird, confusing fact: Charles Frederick Des Voeux (our CDV) had a brother named Charles Champagne Des Voeux (yes, another CDV) and in historical records, at least if I’m remembering correctly, THAT one is called Charlie, whereas it seems that our CDV went by the Victorian era shortening Chas, or in some cases Fred.

Child Soldier 101: He served in the Opium wars alongside Hodgson, Fitzjames, and Gore, and was 19 at the start of the Franklin expedition. Fitzjames chose him specifically because he was “a great favorite of Hodgson's” and also because, unlike show CDV, he was a very nice guy and seemed to be generally well-liked. He did also have some level of war experience and Navy knowledge.

Right before the Franklin expedition set off, he passed his lieutenant's exam with flying colors. This means he was technically a lieutenant before they set off, but there are a limited number of lieutenantcies available on an expedition like this, so for what I wouldn't really call political reasons he kept his position as a Mate. Later on, with records of him at the Cairn with his friend Gore, we know that he was almost definitely promoted to Lieutenant once things started going south, whether that's because they lost a lieutenant or just needed more help.

Now onto Charles Frederick Des Show

In the show, we first see Des Voeux handling the death of Billy Orren because he stops Collins from jumping into the water, and while that's absolutely the right choice, it's also the first of his scenes where he begins to paint himself as almost being unsympathetic to other members of the crew. He’s actually the first to the rail, and the first to toss a rope to Billy Orren, but what sticks out in the end is that he chose in the end that he couldn’t be saved. Fun fact--he (CDFV) and Collins had very close ranks on Erebus which means they would’ve been in close proximity quite a lot of the time, so it’s interesting to consider they might’ve been friends (though I doubt they got along).

In the show if there's ever a guy who's there without clear reason, says something out of place or tells a bad joke, it's almost always without fail the one and only Charles Des Voeux. He goes to the cairn with Gore to leave the Victory Point Note and looks like he's having a bad time the whole way. Gore seems charmed by Goodsir but Charles seems to think he's annoying. When they're at the camp they set up nearby in Season 1 Episode 2: Gore right before Gore dies, Charles keeps making little quips and telling jokes, and without fail, every time he looks over at Gore to see if Gore laughs. In the comic version that came out before the show, he and Gore are good friends and are portrayed sharing a sleeping bag all cozy like two bugs in a rug so I just think their friendship is really sweet.

So up until this point, slops aside Charles is always very well-organized and put together, even if he looks like he wishes he was anywhere other than here on the expedition. Note: See my less-good post that focuses specifically on how his appearance and his attention to it changes throughout the show. He's 19 and has experience at war (the only enemy here is a bear he hasn't seen) and at sea (they are frozen in the ice).

My 2025 Superbowl Halftime Show Analysis

Welcome back to my blog! I ain't forgot about y'all, and I'm still cooking up a deep dive on the Kendrick vs Drake beef (and when I say deep, I mean I'm tryna take it way back to the origin, cause y'all know this shit been simmering in a green cauldron). Anyways, here are my thoughts and ideas (an analysis, if you will) of Kendrick's 2025 Superbowl Halftime Show performance. Note that you have to have seen it in its entirety alteast once in order to take stuff away from this. Let's get this shit!

Bleachers: loading screen going up to 100 like on a video game Stage: Playstation Buttons: Square, X, Triangle, Circle • "The Great American Game" • The Superbowl = biggest American sports event, football being a literal game • The American Game as in chasing The American Dream, the game being rigged; some people have better chances than others, it ain't fair play • Not only the American dream (aka making it big out of nowhere) but just living your life in America can also be seen as "The American Game", especially with games often being connected to pure luck (if you play with dice) as opposed to skill > metaphor for the black experience in the US (ties in to FEAR. (2017) from 17 y/o Kendrick's perspective; I'mma get back to that for the record)

Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam: • SAMUEL L. JACKSON!?!?!?!? • same first name makes it even better • Samuel being one of the biggest Afro-American actors of the century. Our parents grew up watching him, we grew up watching him • usually has roles in movies dealing with racism > "No better than Samuel L on the Django" in i (2014) • previous points make him somewhat of an authority figure in the black media culture (think of Oprah as another e.g.) • Uncle Sam is usually white, a Black version of Uncle Sam is unheard of, because black people don't really represent America "like that"

Lights on bleachers say START, Kendrick starts standing on top of Buick Grand National GNX • Car his Dad drove him home in from the hospital the day he was born > car he started the Great American Game in (game as metaphor for living in America) • Album cover of latest album GNX: Kendrick leaning on the hood of the car; also Grand National Tour starting right about now (National as in USA + 2 Toronto stops, just to claim Drake's city as "part of the Nation") • "all I ever wanted was a black grand national" now he has it > making origins and wished meet your accomplishments

Tiramisu (/Bodies): • GNX album teaser. Kendrick posted that nameless snippet as a teaser for his album on a random Friday morning (morning itself is weird, bc everyone else posts during prime time/at midnight) then half an hour later we got the album. boom. no further roll out, cause he doesn't NEED to do more at that point. But Tiramisu isn't even on the album. We don't know how & when we'll get it, we don't even know what it's called. Some call it Tiramisu, others call it Bodies • Tiramisu started the album roll out > Tiramisu started the halftime show

Hood/Gang: • more people jumping out of the car than fit in it: Back in the day, the homies would just pack into a car and ride around town. No matter where you were going (the hood, the club, some other place), you'd squeeze in all of your friends into that one car > that old 90s cat shit, like when they show you a tape record and ask "whachu kno bout dis, huh?" - cultural/generational differences compared to today's generation > maybe a way of Kendrick connecting to his older audience

Colors: blue, red and white • American flag (stripes n stars) • Gang Symbolism: Bloods (red) vs Crips (blue) • Republicans vs. Democrats (> "Democrips and Rebloodicans/ red state vs. blue state/ which one you governin'?" on Hood Politics (2015) - AND THE COLORS EVEN FUCKING MATCH IN THAT LINE) • bottom line: divide, fight between 2 opposing camps that simply cannot be united (opposing views: politics)/ reconciled (bad blood & pride: gangs) • >some BBC article claimed the stage is a tictactoe field, which yeah, I see why (big field with square-shaped compartments, circles and Xs, if you don't look close enough to notice the triangle and square) = also a game and a game that only two partys can play at that (analogy between red vs blue = x vs. o), as opposed to a playstation that could be a multiplayer game

"The revolution 'bout to be televised, you picked the right time, but the wrong guy" • Drake picked the wrong opponent • Trump was watching > political "revolution", atleast a heavy statement with a clear message: blackness (*I'mma get back to that for the record) • "the right time" as in everybody will see this performance, the whole country is watching The Great American Game right now and every single one will atleast hear about it online/ at work the next day • "the wrong guy" as in Kendrick is not just some Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, Usher type performer. He will try and make a point and not just give us a few hype songs

"No, no, no, no! Too loud, too reckless, too... ghetto! Mr. Lamar, do you really know how to play the game? Then tighten up!" • first of all props on SLJ for delivery without cussing, because you know he wanted to! And it might've been even more impactful with cussing • "too ghetto": This is a black halftime show. All his people (I'll say his community) jumping out that one car (that has been the dream car of many people in Kendrick's life) and squabble up as a whole have been too ghetto, too black • "do you even know how to play": aka you're doing it wrong! this is not what you should be doing, you shouldn't act this black around here

HUMBLE. & DNA.: • obviously: the American flag, but it's divided. "America tried to make it a house divided" on i (2014) referring to the House Divided Lincoln speech. Paraphrased: "America is a house divided, which cannot continue to stand divided; it will fall. It has to become either this or that in order to be secure." Lincoln meant North vs South in the slavery conflict, Kendrick put his spin on it about the black community in i, meaning the culture itself is divided (through generational trauma, gang culture, internalized racism, etc). Today we can put that extra spin onto America and the 2 parties because the colors fit so well and the last election ain't too long ago. Plus everyone was fucking devastated = divide --- Now, does him standing in the middle mean he knows how to unite them? Or is it him standing in the middle on neutral ground?, like with the gangs? Kendrick himself has ties to certain gangs and friends in gangs (Top Dawg (from his former label TDE) was a blood, but Snoop Dog is associated with the crips), but has never officially claimed to belong to any of the two • divide between gangs: July 2024 pop out concert in LA. Kendrick brought different hoods and gangs onto the stage for that concert. For us it's just westside shenanigans, but people who grew up in that environment and who live in these parts knew exactly: "okay wow, he brought some people unto the stage together who normally cannot be seen in the same hood without shots getting fired". > reincarnated (2024): "I put 100 hoods on one stage/ I'm tryna push peace in LA" This obviously doesn't mean he "solved" gang violence, but for many higher ups in the gangs that was a sign of being able to find a common denominator within hating others (people especially in the hiphop scene who disrespect the westside and Drake and his camp in general). Call it United in Beef instead of United in Grief (2022) (y'all should really pay me at this point for the educomedy I give you For Free? (2015)).

Costumes (HUMBLE.): • Context: 2022 Half Time Show: black suits, blonde hair, "Dre Day"-Sashes. Everyone looked the exact same back then, so Kendrick would stand out more. It's him and then one intelligible mass as background dancers • individuality in unity (at least for the guys): they have different hairstyles (beanies, durags, braids, cornrows, fros, top fades, ...) It's Kendrick as the big star and then it's the culture. Every one of them looks a bit different, but they're unified by their colors and their clothes • female background dancers all look the same (all wear the same wig): I feel like that must've been intentional. Sth sth women being undermined in hiphop/the black community and especially in America rn • Kendrick's outfit: • Gloria on the front of the jacket: closing track on his latest album, tells story of how he fell in love with writing and lyricism > boasting "his pen's name" on his jacket as a way of priding himself with his lyrics and wit and knowing that that is mostly the reason people listen to him. We don't stick to Kendrick because of his fashion, his lifestyle, his instagram or sth like that. We heard of him because of his music and his storytelling and that is what we know and love him for - and he knows that as well • peakaboo (2024) on the sleeve: Song he performed in the x button of the game (I will also get back to that later on) • "Keep them away from me" backprint on his shirt: "don't lay your life in these weird n-words' hands" on tv off (2024): referring to every weird rapper/celeb in the industry right now (there's some other bar on GNX that fits, but I forgot what song it was on - I shall update if I find it) There's a video of Kendrick celebrating after the show in which he's not wearing the blue varsity jacket anymore so you can actually see the words on his back. • not a fan of the 68k Rahmaninov broche on his cap cause it's literally just a wing and you could have spend 68k better, but who am I, the man gives back all the time, let him have his stuff. There's other rappers who spend more on more atrocious shit

HUMBLE. & DNA significance: • Humble (2017) one of his biggest hits that everyone, who has ever heard of Kendrick through the mainstream (pre-May 2024 and not just through their friends), knows • DNA (2017) off the same album, deals with pride, confidence in blackness and upbringing, values: "I got loyalty, got royalty inside my DNA" (music video is Kendrick in cuffs being interrogated by a white officer > implications of racism as always), but in the end there's a beat switch, where he's out on the streets with his posse, so also blackness and hanging around outside type shenanigans can be associated with the song) • both songs are among his most played songs, especially off that album (probably also the most played album because mainstream), so that is his effort to make it more "party anthem"-y like all the other halftime shows. But he did say they chose the wrong guy for this. He won't give us maad city or Alright (again), he won't bust out Backseat Freestyle or N95 just for us to get hype, even if Uncle Sam might've hinted at that being the way to go about the Great American Game

bleachers: Warning Wrong Way • I could see the www alliteration meaning something too, idk • "warning within the game": aka hey, Sam told you not too be loud, reckless and ghetto and you continued with HUMBLE., DNA. and now euphoria - choose sth more... tame? > wrong way to play the game • or "warning outside of the game": keep doing your thing and don't switch it up now (don't become less ghetto because they told you to) wrong way to go about your blackness • or "warning about not starting to mention the beef": you better not play euphoria cause this is the Superbowl, why would you mention beef on here? That's unheard of > wrong way to deal with this platform • or "warning against Drake himself": you woke up the boogeyman and this is your warning to not make it worse than it already is right now. > Wrong way to handle your career (cause you lost the beef) and wrong rapper to challenge (cause kendrick is the boogeyman and you underestimated him)

euphoria: • why exactly that part? hype enough and pg enough probably, but with K.dot there's usually more to it. Making a point of how Drake sucks and in what ways he's different from him ("Oh you thought the money, power, fame would make you go away"-line?) • "have you ever hunt your enemy down with a pokerface": playing into the fact that kendrick never loses face. That man steps into the booth, does his thing, makes us marvel at it and goes home. Stays offline. You can't say shit that will make this guy record an aggravated insta story on the lies you've spread. As opposed to Drake who literally does the exact opposite on every level. And that mischievous smile into the camera in that moment - gold!

man at the garden: • makes me wanna cry • doesn't usually have this acapella theme, so the fact there's multiple male background singers supporting his flow to me is a brotherhood thing again • person chilling on the streetlamp as a call back to the Alright music video (2015) in which he flies through the streets and also chills on top of a streetlamp • vibing with the gang, everyone looks hood: like he's sitting at the corner store with his posse. typical black stereotype: troubled youth on the street who don't know anything but how to linger around • "keep these bums away from me" call back to the print on the back of that shirt he's wearing and the line on tv off I mentioned earlier • "did it with integrity, these boys tryna hate on me" applies to a lot (the beef, being offline all the time/ his long hiatus, the grammys), but lets apply it to the halftime show: critics say it was too black, heavy, symbolic and not party enough. he did it with integrity and now him making a clear and much needed statement isn't good enough for many critics • "I deserve it all, cause it's mine/ tell me why you deserve the greatest of all time, mf" (he said in an interview that that was the song off the album he wanted everyone to hear and really listen to and understand) > he deserves everything the last year has given him - Not Like Us being successful, being hailed as the Drakenslayer, dropping an acclaimed album, winning 5 Grammys and performing at the Superbowl

"Ohh, so you brought your homeboys with you? The old culture cheat code. Score-keeper, deduct one life!" • The "culture cheat code" = against the rules of the Great American Game • hanging around the corner on the street with the homies ("shit I'm with the homies, just riding, just ridin" The Art Of Peer Pressure (2012)) is the wrong way to play it. You should go to school, go home, do the work and be nice, calm and collected aka "white" • the culture cheat code: within the Game, we're aware of the discrepancy between certain, opposing camps. The culture cheatcode would be bringing your friends and unifying people so they stand as one and are ready to battle. If that is not allowed and gets you fined, that means you have to play the game on your own = you play against a bot, an end boss, an AI, whatever: an NPC that is the same for every game (as opposed to multiplayer where you can play against each other). That Game's end boss could be too hard to beat, everytime you try to beat the game (aka in every life you live - "reincarnated" > implying mulitple lifetimes- you lose against the Game's entity, because it's rigged and you're on your own against a boss you can't control or foresee (the industry, society, a construct, the monopoly) • "deducting 1 life" = taking one life? metaphore for gang violence, losing friends on the street just like that, because you played it wrong. Possible call back to FEAR. (2017): "I'll prolly die anonymous, I'll prolly die with promises/ I'll prolly die walkin' back home from the candy house/ I'll prolly die because these colors are standin' out/ I'll prolly die because I ain't know Demarcus was snitchin'/ I'll prolly die at these house parties - / I'll prolly die from witnesses leavin' me false accused/ I'll prolly die from thinkin' that me and your hood was cool/ Or maybe die from pressin' the line, actin' too extra/ Or maybe die because these smokers are more than desperate/ I'll prolly die from one of these bats and blue badges/ Body slammed on black and white paint, my bones snappin'/ Or maybe die from panic or die from bein' too lax/ Or die from waitin' on it, die 'cause I'm movin' too fast/ I'll prolly die tryna buy - at the apartments/ I'll prolly die tryna diffuse two homies arguin'/ I'll prolly die 'cause that's what you do when you're 17/ All worries in a hurry, I wish I controlled things"

>So many ways to die, because you went against the rules (playing the game on the street with your homies /being seen around the wrong people and falsely accused). This has been part of his life forever and part of his music since atleast fucking 2012 >"I done lost too many friends, 16 to be specific" wacced out murals (2024): could be friends in the industry being shady and turning away, or actually him mourning over "the dead homies" (2015)

peakaboo: • Now. Hold my hand cause shit is turbulent, okay? Get your tinheads out, I need you to follow me • 2018, rapper XXXTentacion dies in a shooting. Shooters still haven't been found to this day, although there were suspects. X was beefing with Drake at the time. Just a few months before his passing, X made the Helping Hand Challenge, where he basically told his fans to do something good (spread kindness, yada yada) in their environment and to post it, so he could see and repost it. Iirc, he also mentioned you should do nice things for strangers even if you don't end up posting it. Drake ripped off his challenge for the God's Plan music video (2018) and posted a similar challenge to his followers on Instagram as well, which X saw as a jab at him. The peakaboo sample in the beginning features the words "Helping Hand", which if you listen to the lyrics seems out of place, if you don't pin it to this theory • There are rumors about Drake having sent his shooters after X and basically ordering to kill him ALLEGEDLY. (We don't know shit, but Drake's name did come up in court; allegedly). If you've seen my previous "My Reasons To Hate Drake" post from May 2024 (which: y'all showed me so much love on this, thank you), then you'll know I already hinted at this even back then. (If you haven't seen it, but are interested in the beef: whatchu waiting for, dawg?) I'll spare you more details, because there IS more, but right now it's just important that you know that that's a theory that has been floating around ever since X died at 20 fucking years old. The boy was just as old as me writing this. During the beef it came up again because it's one more reason to hate Drake for and when people heard peakaboo, they spun the theory further. Kendrick had a rapper from the same area as X, Kodak Black, on his 2022 album and he apparently made some subliminal hints on the song Silent Hill. Peakaboo is also big on the whole "i got money and I got friends in the hood who will definitely gang bang and take someone out - so you better watch ya back" energy, which parodies Drake's songs shortly after X's passing, which obviously made people pipe up even more. Kendrick refers to and parodies a bunch of shit Drake said on his tracks in 2018 that can be linked to X • he performs peekaboo in the X button of the game. the X. for XXXTentacion. Shit is always intentional with this man, so for this to be a coincidence... idk man • saying "peekaboo" and him coming into frame from below is fucking hilarious • Kendrick performed the AzChike's verse (the rapper featuring on the song) and not his own, which made the rapper and his crew really happy.

"I wanna perform they favorite song, but you know they love to sue" • Drake has been tryna sue Kendrick over Not Like Us, but he doesn't want that to be the reason he doesn't play it. It's a whole can of worms I'll tackle some other post

SZA on luther and All The Stars • SZA in all red while Kendrick's wearing blue • SZA is going on tour with him, they've collabed since 2017 • SZA used to date Drake in like 2009 • All The Stars is part of the Black Panther soundtrack and one of his most acclaimed songs in the mainstream > that's why we get Uncle Sam's positive reaction • "fuck you and all your expectations/ I don't even want you congratulations. (...) Ion even like you" someone spinned that unto Drake because back when All The Stars came out, Kendrick won an award over Drake and he tried to play it cool and Kendrick was like "ugh wdym, just stfu, don't even act like you care"

"That's what I'm talking about, this is what America wants! Nice and calm. You're almost there! Now don't mess this-" • SZA as the mainstream entry for the halftime show, the things you'd expect/want on there • someone said "Oh yk sza was also there and she looked great, anyways then this happened" and I was like... she LOOKED great...? Have you HEARD her? Are you on drugs? She's out here doing her job, busting out the double string harmonies and you say "she looked pretty"? ugh. men. > That ties into it. They just hear the performance, but don't listen. They watch, but they don't look. That's why Samuel wanted that, because it's nice and calm and not dangerous. It doesn't say anything

Not Like Us edging: • "it's a cultural divide" > back to the divided point I made before • "40 acres and a mule, this is bigger than the music" ties into the line that comes up again and again on tpab: some civil war shit from 1865 (black history) where some families were freed and allotted 40 acres and a mule, so now it's become a saying for reparations to black people. Kendrick has been playing with this saying since 2015. Now it's bigger than just music. This is a black Superbowl Halftime show, he's making it bigger than just music, he's trying to give back to the community, trying to shed light on the culture that has been dominating the world's trends but is always overlooked, underappreciated and pushed aside in their own country • "they tried to rig the game but you can't fake influence": he's got the influence and he will use it the best he can for the things he finds important, even with someone trying to sue him over a song

NOT LIKE US: • "Say Drake" and smiling into the cam mischeviously • calling out the people (PARTYNEXTDOOR, chubbs, baka, Drake) • If you thought the Grammys "A Minor" was wild, you haven't heard the 5 Pop out concert "A Minors". If you thought those were as big as it gets, you haven't heard the whole Superbowl shout "A MINORRRRRR" yet • Serena Williams, tennis star in all blue (crip affiliations) crip walking on the side as her ex (back in 2011) gets called a pedophile is wild. She once got fined at a tennis match for crip-walking, so her doing it at the superbowl is a power move for her as well • Yes, they did indeed date, and drake started beef with another rapper (Common) over her after they broke up - (drake behavior, just look at him not being able to let go of Rihanna), and apparently talked shit on social media. some say he even stalked her, but that's YouTube comments, I don't have sources yet

TV OFF: MUSTAAAARD: • necklace: capital M for Mustard • but Kendrick's necklace is a lowercase a aka A MINORRRRRR (it's actually his record label's pgLang logo, but still) • and if you put both of their necklaces together it says aM, like A MINORRRRRRRRRR • also Mustard reppin Cali fashion with his baggy jeans (BBC said they're "the baggiest jeans in the world", lol) • mustard yellow accents on his jacket cause it's Mustaaaaard! • why is he here? - giving mustard his flowers: This wouldn't have been possible without him. Mustard has been a renowned LA producer for years, but producers hardly get any recognition for their work (if you aren't Timbaland and have your own studio albums, multiple verses on other people's records you produced, you're bound to fly under the radar. Take MetroBoomin e.g. I've been listening to Metro's beats for years!, but I only found out what he looked like when I saw him live at Rolling Loud, only to forget again, until the beef kicked off last May and I saw more pics of him). Kendrick had Mustard in the Not Like Us music video and on stage for the pop out concert they had in LA in July (they played Not Like Us 5 times back to back, yall dont fucking get it). The Pop Out concert has even bigger implications for LA itself (refer back to "I put 100 hoods on one stage/ I'm tryna push peace in LA" on reincarnated), but just know that Not Like Us and in turn also Mustard who fucking made Not Like Us happen was a big part of that. Kendrick had him come up stage at the Grammys because again: those 5 grammys might've been a few less if it hadn't been for Mustard's typical LA production. This is a Westside anthem, just like TV Off, so of course Mustard must also join at the halftime show. People usually watch the superbowls together, so turning your tv off could've resulted in some family quality time, best case scenario, we could've discussed the Halftime show more, gotten people's opinions and analysis (from the first watch ofc, thats usually not that deep)

i was certain i'd taken screenshots of my very early modded minecraft explorations from like ten years ago, and i did.

Dragon mounts was one of my favorite mods, as was the original Witchery. Both of which, I believe, stopped being updated around 1.7.10, witchery did for sure.

It's so wild to come back now and there's these projects to make spiritual successors and continue them on, Bewitchment is a great continuation that has most of the same energy and spirit, and I know there's a 'dragon mounts reborn' out there too, I just didn't know about it until after I found out about ice and fire.
