I'm as grateful for cellphones as the next person, but sometimes I think about how everyone having a phone on them at all times really did cause us to loose some things as a society. I mean - for example, kids these days will never experience their car breaking down and needing to find the nearest place with a phone they can use. They're never going to have the opportunity to tentatively approach a house only to discover that it's full of queer people having a party hosted by a transvestite to celebrate his creation of a sex homunculus, stay the night, and loose their virginity while unintentionally partaking in cannibalism. It's tragic, that kind of gay sexual awakening just doesn't happen these days because of cellphones.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
#yeehaw#1k#5k#10k#posts that got cursed. blasted. im making these tag updates after... 19 hours?#also i have been told it should say speech loss bc nonverbal specifically refers to the permanent state. did not know that!#unfortunately i fear it is so far past containment that even if i edited it now it would do very little. but noted for future reference#edit 2: nvm enough ppl have come to rb it from me directly that i changed the wording a bit. hopefully this makes sense#also. in case anyone is curious. though i doubt anyone who is commenting these things will check the original tags#1) my friend did not do this on purpose in any way. it was not intended to distract me or to hit on me. im a lesbian hes a gay man. cmon now#he felt very bad about it afterwards. i thought it was hilarious but it was very embarrassed and apologetic#2) “why didn't he use 🫵🏼?” didn't exist yet. “why didn't he use 🆗?” dunno! we'd been using a lot of hand emojis. 👌🏼 is an ok sign#like it makes sense. it was just a silly mixup. also No i did not invent 👉🏼👌🏼 as a gesture meaning sex. do you live under a rock#3) nonspeaking episodes are a recurring thing in my life and have been since i was born. this is not a quirky one-time thing#it is a pervasive issue that is very frustrating to both myself and the people i am trying to communicate with. in which trying to speak is#extremely distressing and causes very genuine anguish. this post is not me making light of it it's just a funny thing that happened once#it's no different than if i post about a funny thing that happened in conjunction w a physical disability. it's just me talking abt my life#i don't mind character tags tho. those can be entertaining. i don't know what any of you are talking about#Except the ppl who have said this is pego/ryu or wang/xian. those people i understand and respect#if you use it as a writing prompt that's fine but send it to me. i want to see it#aaaand i think that's it. everyday im tempted to turn off rbs on it. it hasn't even been a week

[image id: a four-page comic. it is titled "immortality” after the poem by clare harner (more popularly known as “do not stand at my grave and weep”). the first page shows paleontologists digging up fossils at a dig. it reads, “do not stand at my grave and weep. i am not there. i do not sleep.” page two features several prehistoric creatures living in the wild. not featured but notable, each have modern descendants: horses, cetaceans, horsetail plants, and crocodilians. it reads, “i am a thousand winds that blow. i am the diamond glints on snow. i am the sunlight on ripened grain. i am the gentle autumn rain.” the third page shows archaeopteryx in the treetops and the skies, then a modern museum-goer reading the placard on a fossil display. it reads, “when you awaken in the morning’s hush, i am the swift uplifting rush, of quiet birds in circled flight. i am the soft stars that shine at night. do not stand at my grave and cry.” the fourth page shows a chicken in a field. it reads, “i am not there. i did not die” / end id]
a comic i made in about 15 hours for my school’s comic anthology. the theme was “evolution”

Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go “really? That’s so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"

We're not appreciating the Weird Barbie enough. It's said in the movie that she helps everyone who need help while they always see her as someone who's not as good as them. She was friends with all dismissed Barbies and Kens, was there to offer support and safe shelter for everyone who needed it in Kendom, without her nothing in the movie would've been alright. When Stereotypical Barbie calls her "ugly and unwanted" she still helps her.
She was representing a woman in women's world who was pushed aside by other women because she didn't fit in but still had more wisdom and kindness than everyone who thought they're better than her.

The promised book-roundup January/ February 2024! A list of all the books I read this year until now, reviewed by personal enjoyment and depiction of women (which are very closely correlated). This will be part 1, other parts soon to follow.
I fortunately do have a Goodreads, otherwise I would have already lost track of what I have read so far.
A small disclaimer: This list is ordered by date read and does not reflect on the quality of the books in question.
Let's start!
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro This book is set in a dystopian version of England and follows a group of kids through school to adulthood. The reader slowly learns that these kids have a special role in society and won't generally grow up to be much older than 30. Personal Feelings: We are off to a strong start! Kazuo Ishiguro has received the Nobel prize in literature for his work, and his writing style is accordingly good. I also appreciate that my questions aren't immediately answered but I get to work out what's happening by myself. Rather dystopian, but a very good read! 9/10. Depiction of women etc: Solid. It's written from the point of view of a woman and one of the central relationships in this book is to another woman. Unfortunately, we don't get a close male-female friendship without any sex involved. Also, no queer relationships. 8/10
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir A sci-fi novel set in space with an amnesiac astronaut who figures out that he needs to save the world. Personal Feelings: Not a great book. Andy Weir is not very good at writing literary fiction unfortunately. I personally found the plot rather thin and the way the author is bending over backwards to ensure that some mediocre American guy has to not only save the world, but also another planet is not helpful. Personally didn't find it enjoyable. 3/10 Depiction of women: There's not much to say, because we get a whooping two characters in this book one of which is male and another one is from an alien planet and is referred to by the generic masculine. We do get some women in the flash-back scenes. Brownie points for the fact that one of them is allowed to be a powerful bitch. Deduction of said points for the walking Russian stereotype who also makes it very clear that she is shagging one of her fellow crew members. A lot. 4/10 because the sample size is not big enough.
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt A book told from the perspective of an old woman who has lost her son some 30 years ago and is cleaning in an aquarium. She begins to develop a friendship with the octopus in this aquarium. Parallel to that we follow the story of a 30-year old layabout trying to find his father in the hopes of getting some money out of him. Personal feelings: I personally found that this book was lacking depth. The premise sounded interesting, the way it's done not so much. The characters were flat, and I was relieved when I was finished. 4/10 Depiction of women: Nothing overly remarkable. Plus points for having a 70-year old woman be one of the main characters. 6/10
Sleep by Haruki Murakami This is a short story about a woman who discovers she doesn't need to sleep anymore. Personal Feelings: This might be the best work by Murakami (which isn't saying much, as everything else I read by him was rather bad). Solid writing style, open-ended, a bit of a mystery. I overall enjoyed it. 7/10 Depiction of women: Surprisingly ok. We get a view into the life of a housewife and how she decides that she needs to get enjoyment back in her life. As she no longer sleeps she can do this by reading books. She's still the housekeeper of the family and we have a scene where it's emphasized how good-looking she is. 6/10

ppl of tumblr:
(to clarify: if youre like say "girl but with wiggly hand gesture" but 100% sure of that that would be "yea i got it 👍", vagueness of gender itself/descriptors are not whats being asked for here, just like how much u feel Certain about it. also, should be obvious but cis ppl feel free to vote, whether cis or "cis" or "...cis?")
if u feel like it: put your gender plus sureness, how you feel about your personal level of sureness, and your favorite bug in the tags
reblog to see the lil button turn green which is a nice color
