What kind of non lethal crimes do you think Joker would pivot to in a relationship with Bruce? I'm thinking about your REMS characterization. Also thinking about a line from Joker in the last chapter, about not throwing his career down the shitter and killing to defend himself. What would a career look like for him being with Bruce? Surely he would still be incredibly silly about them, with varying levels of violence that *just* teeters the edge. Love your work!

Glad you like my work, thank you! Hmm, what I had in mind when writing that in REMS (or for a sequel) was Joker's penchant for... well, breaking people and exposing hypocrisy, but minus the murder. With his love of drama and performance sprinkled on top, of course; as you say, he'd never stop being silly.

He usually kills indiscriminately, yes, because he considers himself as just playing into the cruel meaninglessness of the world. But the reason why Joker fixated on Batman, and why his M.O. includes using a gas that basically forces people to see the world like he does right before they die, is Joker's need to prove a point. He wants people to admit that there's no order to life and that tragedy can strike at any time; he wants Gotham to realize how arbitrary rules are, and Batman happens to be the perfect embodiment of that.

So I think that a Joker who won't murder anymore would basically create situations in which people's darkest sides are exposed, to various degrees of seriousness and violence. And not only that-- he would do things that would expose the ridiculousness and heinousness of the world people live in. Capitalism and its self-cannibalizing focus on profit, the skewed interests of the government, the suffering of the poor... Joker's already done this sort of thing, it's not much of a stretch. For example, seeing how many people we're being hurt as a result of superhero fights, one time Joker promised to pay the medical bills of each Gothamite that posted a video on the DC equivalent of Facebook... but only if they shouted the word "Balyushka" and then did something ridiculous to make him laugh:

And he keeps his word! But of course, this creates utter chaos, because people are doing fucking crazy shit to get that money. And the thing is, he doesn't do this just for funsies. He has a point, and Bruce can't help but admit it:

I won't go into too much detail, but Joker paid Harleen Quinzell's tuition without much prompting, he went and helped (in his own way) a child who wrote to him and was clearly being abused... it's about the cases he can empathize with. And they're all connected to his own life-ruining trauma. Red Hood fell into the vat most of all because of poverty. Because he had no choice except to turn to crime-- otherwise him and his family would not have had food to put on the table. So of course he hates the society he lives in, one that had no safety nets or mercy for people like him who were drowning.

This is a very long-winded way to say that I imagine a non-lethal Joker being a mix of this and... stupid ass pranks on a massive scale, because let's be honest, he wouldn't give them up. He just wouldn't kill people at the end (because it'd make his boyfriend sad).

First trans "friend" I had after I realized I was trans was a transmasc who is still to this day the person who, IRL, has said the terfiest shit to my face.

And even he has said shit sometimes that's disappointing but at least when I push back he listens and improves. And he's the only transmasc that's been understanding of and caring about why, for a long time after we started hanging out, I had spiky shields up and kept explicitly telling him I didn't trust him to not abuse his power over me. Also he doesn't make his difficulties with masculinity my fucking problem, he talks to his therapist abt it instead lol.

So like. I know it's possible. He's shown me it's possible for transmascs to be actually kind and caring and loving and understanding to us. Which in a way just makes it all the more disappointing that most choose not to be.

Bruce was the one that invited Jason to a monthly dinner. He tried to be closer to Jason, and he would've declined evey time of it wasn't for you begging him to give him a chance.

As you both entered the Manor, and politely smiled at Alfred, you felt like your knees would just give out. And Jason now had a frown on his face, as if he hated the place.

You heard commotion from the dining room, with a few people sitting at the table already. We're you late?

Okay so first off, I do NOT see Paul as the one who called off the whole thing with him and darry, nor the only reason they had issues. Which they didn't really have but that's a whole other thing.

I like to see him as someone who mirrors darry sort of on the opposite side. Darry is seen as Soc like even tho he is known as a greaser. Shorter hair then ur average greaser, no hair gel, actually follows most laws (he needs too but yk) and doing very well in school and academics in general. But still having many greaser qualities and being a greaser in general.

Meanwhile Paul, a Soc, has longer hair, breaks a few more laws (many socs jump greasers, drink and smoke underage ,and that's it. But Paul would steal, vandalize, etc) but wont jump greasers. Rumbles sure but jumping them in general is a no go for him. Considering his best friend is one.

He also does just well enough in school to pass classes and stay on the football team. Not trying all that much. If it weren't for his parents forcing and pressuring him and his (I hc him to have one) little sister encourageing him he would have probably failed everything then get kicked out. His father is also just an asshole and his mom was so emotionally neglectful it was crazy

I see him as some of the socs safe person for if anything happens similar to darry. Hiding from whatever? Paul. Want a party? Paul. Just wanna hang out that isn't out or at your house? Paul.

His house is basically the hangout spot bc his parents are barely home and when they are they don't pay to much attention bc they act good with them around. Even tho it was rare socs would go there anyway.

Now to Paul and darry. Darry was pauls safe person. If his dad beat him or threatened to kick him out, Darry was the person he would go too. And they were close for years. But It was darry who called off the whatever they had. Paul was the one who was fine with what they had. He was fine keeping it a secret. And he's probably given up a thing or too just for Darry. And darry did care, but he just couldn't do it anymore. In fact, he had kissed many girls when they were dating, claiming its just to hide what they had but realistically he just wanted to try to “get rid of his homosexuality” as its against god. (he literally went to church in the south in the 60s..) but Paul ignored it. Ofc it bothered him but Paul didn't really see it as bad to do bc maybe darry really was trying to hide it?

Darry didn't hate him but when he broke up with Paul. Paul began to dislike him a lot more. Ofc still not jumping greasers but just hated darry. He felt like darry never really cared and everything he did was useless. Ofc darry said they could still be friends like they had been for years but Paul just wanted to leave.

This is why Paul looked visibly angry at darry during the rumble and why darry had no reaction during the rumble. Paul was pissed and he had every right to be. And darry knew this. They still fought, fist to face, body, whatever. But secretly, even though Paul wanted to refuse, the second Darry would make any motive to wanna get back together, Paul would have dropped anything in a heartbeat.

it’s frankly kind of crazy to me how many folks just assume that everyone AFAB is treated as a woman, like. with zero complications or caveats. i have PCOS and have a disability that makes me look different from a lot of people (read: ugly, because i do not fit into white supremacist beauty standards). i have never been in my life truly perceived by anyone around me as a woman. female, sure, in the same way people treat dogs and horses and cats that are female - she/her pronouns by default (most of the time, though i do get ‘sir’ed on occasion because of my masculine features when you can’t see my huge fuckin tits (/derogatory)), an assumption of hysteria and stupidity in everything i say, routinely subjecting me to sexualization and sexual abuse - but i’m not ever really a woman to anyone.

i was thoroughly rejected from the concept by girls and women, looked down upon for being ugly and not having “feminine” interests or behaviors, having my features publicly mocked and denigrated, speculation about my genitals was public and humiliating, and it was generally assumed that i was a disgusting animal that no one with any dignity would ever be sexually attracted to except for rapists and pedophiles (and even then i guess i was supposed to be grateful for that attention because i was too vile and inhuman to expect anything better).

i literally always fit in better with men who did not feel any pressure to have to think about me as a sexual being, which was gay men when i was still IDing as a woman and straight men when i finally came out as transmasculine. if they didn’t have to wrap their head around how something as gross and ugly as me was supposed to be a woman (read: desirable), they didn’t have to agonize over how they were supposed to treat me. if i’m just one of the boys, that pressure’s lifted, and i finally got access to normal social involvement. i got the slightest access to personhood by no longer trying to be something it was basically completely agreed upon that i was a failure at.

as far as i’ve understood it that’s an experience some transfems have, finally getting access to normal social interaction by no longer having to pretend to be something they’re considered a “failure” at. i guess i just wonder why it’s always assumed that trans mascs never have this experience either. like we had it easy and still have it easy and are just pretending or making any struggles we have up for fun, i guess.

for what it’s worth (so this ask isn’t a total fucking bummer) i’m a lot happier now and am in groups where i am no longer expected to perform gender as strictly as i was growing up. i’m not reduced to my fuckability or lack thereof anymore and people value me like i’m a real fuckin person. and i never medically transitioned at all. i was just lucky enough to finally find people for whom being myself was what was actually important, not being a gender arbitrarily assigned to me based on being born with a V and not a P.

There's this really gross assumption that anyone transitioning out of being a woman is essentially "wasting" their assigned status as The Good Gender. It's very disgusting. I'm so sorry for everything you've been through and that people make it so rough assuming you've had it so easy.

Okay, so this is the post where I defend first cousin marriage, which is featured in Mansfield Park, Sense & Sensibility, and also comes up in Pride & Prejudice (I mean Anne de Bourgh and Mr. Darcy, Mr. Collins is a distant cousin to Elizabeth, at least 2 degrees removed, Mr. Elliot in Persuasion is another second cousin, though his line about Anne not changing her name might be the most cringy pickup line in romance history).

Firstly, 1st cousin marriage, in general is a squick NOT genetically dangerous. Yes, the Hapsburgs did happen, but they were intermarrying like crazy and within a very small dating pool. For most people, the genetic danger is equal to a woman over 35 having a baby. Negligible.

You also have to consider why cousin marriage was a good idea. Yes, you want to maintain wealth within a family, but more than that, women are vulnerable in marriage. When divorce laws are strict, and even running away from abuse is heavily frowned upon (just see The Tenant of Wildfell Hall) it becomes very important to choose prudently. Now who should you trust not to be abusive? The man you met at six balls in heavily chaperoned settings or cousin Charles, who you've known since birth and who has always been kind to you? I'm going with Charles. And you have more allies (hopefully) in that situation. You can go to your uncle for help if something is going wrong. You have an established network.

You can see why the overly cautious and continually neglected and verbally abused Fanny Price doesn't want to chance it on the wider world! She knows Edmund about as well as a human can know another human.

Now I'm sure this didn't always work perfectly, it certainly didn't for Eliza Brandon, but I can really see the logic behind it especially in Regency England.

In most Western countries, first cousin marriage just seems weird, but it's probably because we have such large dating pools these days and much longer dating periods (usually). People don't marry in a matter of weeks, they often date for years. With the benefits of cousin marriage fairly incomprehensible, we tend to focus on the risks.

Also, we have to remember that these people were not raised being told it was wrong, it wouldn't be gross to them. In fact, in Mansfield Park the idea that it would be a real fear for Fanny to marry one of the sons comes up more than once (at the ball we are told onlookers might have thought Sir Thomas was raising Fanny as a wife for his second son). In Frankenstein, Victor's parents specifically call Elizabeth his cousin instead of sister, assumably because they shipped those two crazy kids at five years old.

Anyway, many cultures still today prefer or practice first cousin marriage. The genetic risk increase is very small (it raises from about 2% to 4%) and we now have genetic testing as well. While it may be gross to you, it is not wrong or immoral, it is a difference. I can see why women might consider it a safer and desirable option.

I'm bringing this up not just because I read way too many posts about how gross the ending of Mansfield Park is to people, but because many people alive today are married to their first cousins and if you meet one, please be civil.

Haunting Adeline is bad.

It only gained hype because of the controversial themes because the construction is crap. A poorly written book with shameful dialog and characters shallower than the drain in my sink. The book makes an effort to be profound, showing how cruel and dark the world is, but in the end it tries so hard that it's more like those One Direction fics kidnapping Y/N. Adeline herself as the protagonist seems to have come straight out of a Wattpad self insert. It's also unnecessarily long. There's no justification for this story being 600 pages long, let alone a sequel. If you take away all the unnacessary bullshit, the whole duology could fit into a single book.

Such a long book, but it still fails to introduce us to the basic concepts of the characters. So many things are poorly explained that they basically expect readers to accept just “because...”? For example, Zade's motivation? I finished the book without understanding his backstory and why he would go so far to do what he does. “That's because he's angry about the existence of child trafficking”, congratulations Zade, you're a normal person who is outraged by child violence, so what? One person finding abuse wrong (which in itself is ironic when it comes to Zade, given what he does to Adeline) isn't enough to justify everything he does. He ends up being the author's puppet for action and smuty kinky scenes, rather than a complex character.

Speaking of kinky, I see a lot of people (including the author apparently) who don't know the basic difference between fetish and abuse. All fetish and kinks, including cnc, needs to be done in a healthy, safe and consensual way. These are the basics of the practice and are non-negotiable. Practically all the sex scenes in this book that take place between Adeline and Zade fall into the dub-con (dubious consent) spectrum. Whether it's because he's forced himself on her, coerced her, manipulated her, etc., from the lightest to the heaviest, all the sex between them has a non-consensual aspect in addition to the disparity of power in the relationship that was not negotiated between them. So you can't use the excuse that it's a fetish so anything goes, because that's simply not the reality. If you let go of the dark romance for a second and actually research how this works, you'll quickly realize that the way this book deals with fetish is extremely off the mark.

Lastly, there's the issue of human/child trafficking. I see a lot of people criticize how graphic the scenes are, which for me wasn't a problem, but very few people talk about how the vision portrayed in the book refers to a line of thought that connect whit the crazy right-wing american conspiracy theorist mentality . Whenever there was a scene involving violence against children, I had the impression that H.D Carlton had studied the subject on the QAnom forum. Anyone who does the slightest bit of research on the subject knows that the main victims of this kind of violence are not the white suburban American children of the traditional family, as we see repeatedly portrayed through Zade's missions. It's not a black van that springs up in an upper-middle-class neighborhood and steals away a beloved child while their parents cry copiously over the loss. Those who are targeted are usually non-white, disabled children from very poor areas who are generally forgotten by the system. Also I'm not Jewish so I can't say 100%, but the way the author constructed the secret society plus all the strange and conspiracy-oriented things in the book gave me an anti-Semitic vibe. The secret society in this book is literally a ctrl+c ctrl+v of Blood Libel. Maybe I'm going too far with my interpretation, but considering that the author literally had to put a disclaimer at the beginning that she has no connection with conspiracy theory groups, I don't think I'm so wrong to notice parallels.

Ford more than less realizes something, that the whole "Stan looks like me, but if he had given up in life.", he knew that Stan always acts like he had given up in life, but I think when they figure out their shit, he learns that the same people who praised him, at the same time put down Stan, not because of his behavior, but because they tought he was dumb or worthless...

I love those headcannons and fanfics, in which for unfortunate reasons, Stan and Ford end meeting with Filbrick again or go to his grave and now that Ford has a better panorama that his father abused Stan, he's of course angry.

I like the general headcannon, in which in front of Filbrick, there's now some kind of role reversal, now is Stan the one who is afraid of him and even suffers and emotional regretion, while Ford on the other hand now is this close of strangling and murdering their father. I mean, Stan keeps calling Filbrick "Pops", "Pa" or "Dad", while Ford now learning about the abuse, he calls Filbrick by his name now.

I mean, you said, Ford hates injustices, so he'll do anything in his power to defeat the villain in question and now that he learns that his father was an abuser all along, he wants to make good in his oath that he'll be the a good brother and the brother that Stan deserves, I mean...

There's a comic made by @demico-art, where Stan goes to Filbrick's grave and of course he has some kind of closure, that's honestly how I picture Stan talking with his dad. While Ford would be like a fic I read in which, he's trying to restrain himself from kicking the grave and not look like a crazy man, but he's calling out his father for abusing Stan and being a man unable to get impressed by them, of course that neither of the family deserved Stan, but yet, Ford is going to make a good brother because he needs and wants him in his life.

There's a fic I'm trying to find, that I read back in 2016-2018, in which Filbrick comes back as a ghost during Summerween/Halloween and starts berating Stan, then Soos and Ford arrive and the two, mainly Soos defend Stan, with Soos, yelling at him for being a horrible father, saying that he should be proud of who their sons are, specially commenting in how Stan sacrificed to save the world. When Filbrick attacks Soos, Stan stops being frozen in fear and defends Soos... then he yells his to his dad to get out of their homes and lives and never come back and when Filbrick refuses Ford threatens him with exorcising him and sending him to a truly horrible place. I honestly love this.

And there's other fics as well, in which Stan and Ford meet Filbrick, now in his 80's, while Stan is afraid, Ford on the other hand is defensive of Stan the whole time and is this close of doing something crazy. Needing Stan to restrain him at all costs...

But honestly, that's how I think their interactions, now in the present would go, Stan still is sad, because he couldn't prove his father wrong and of course still shows fear and vulnerability in front of him, while Ford plain and simply hates him, not only for steering him away from Stan, but also for the abuse of him. Being surprisingly the one who is more rebellious in front of him. Even considering that Filbrick is not worth that Stan keeps remembering him. Maybe he also talks by experience, since Ford was abused by Bill for too long and he doesn't like that Stan keeps giving Filbrick power, since he now he knows how the abuse works.

I actually LOVE Ford being protective of Stan! I love both Stan and Ford being protective of each other, for that matter.

As for their feelings about Filbrick.

Stan and Ford grew up in the 60s-70s, so they probably didn't realize Filbrick abused them at first. But in modern times I think Ford's gonna reach that realization first.

I mean, Stan applied Filbrick's treatment of him on Dipper (to a far lesser extent) and it almost destroyed their relationship.

Filbrick's most likely dead in modern times, and quite frankly, Stan and Ford shouldn't have to deal with his abusive ass.

Though in regards to that fic you mentioned, it sounds familiar, so I think I've read it too, though I don't remember what it's called.

Im just gonna answer these point for point. Please note, singleton pregnancies for non-seeker mecha are the norm for this AU and Rodimus having triplets is an outlier. Everyone else is only expecting one

1. The constructicons certainly try to pamper Prowl, but he is not reciprocal. He's like a feral cat: he'll accept food and attention but if you try to touch him he'll hiss and bite you

2. Starscream kept the cycle under wraps for as long as he could, and he's not at all keen on letting anyone get too close. It takes a lot of pestering (and abusing Sky's warpdrive, let's be honest here) just for his trine to get into his quarters to look after him. Thundercracker lectures him on taking it easy and not working so hard as the carrying cycle progresses, and he + Skywarp have their servos full constantly running after their workaholic trine leader trying to get him to rest lmao

3. Optimus is... God, I don't even know. How would IDW OP react? It's not like he's opposed to having a sparkling, but it just feels too soon. It wasn't planned, and he's kind of overwhelmed by....... Everything. Sparklings are a lot, being a parent is a lot, and he's still got a crazy busy schedule despite not being an active political leader atm. Ironhide threatens to sit on him if he won't allow himself time to rest lmao

4. It takes a hunch of schedule shuffling but with Ultra Magnus on the case there's quickly an airtight schedule for bitty care that guarantees they'll all be supervised by at least 2 responsible adults at all times during the work day. It's a bit of a transition after the mamas finish with maternity leave (Ratchet only takes 2 days off before he's back in the medbay with bitty strapped to his back smh), but they make it work

4.5 Megatron is still having a crisis over his impending parenthood. This can go one of two ways: he's had sparklings before and lost contact with them thanks to the shitshow of Cybertron's system and it's a repressed trauma response, or he has first-time carrier jitters combined with infinite guilt about The War and worrying his sparkling won't be able to have a good life with his name attached to them 🤭

5. Roddy's triplets are G1 ("Pinky"), TFA ("Maroon"), and Cyberverse ("Lil Red"). Mama Rodimus hasn't given them names yet (aka idk what to call them lol) so for now they're just called their colors. Kinda like Nightprowler was dubbed Lil P for the longest time

Which couldn't be more false of course, but these people do not care about what's actually true or not and will keep coming up with more or less prettily worded bullshit to further their moral purity agenda.

We ARE talking about very basic ships which indeed were the foundation of the fandom (especially Brudick and Jaytim), and now shipping them earns you the "freak" badge, and the moment one of your ship posts goes above the 100 notes you're at risk of receiving mild to heavy harassment in the form of insults to suicide baiting to threats of doxxing. If it happens on Discord you might as well delete your account and start anew. This isn't in any way discouraged by tumblr itself - more and more anti harassment, "free shipping" blogs get termed while the censorship lovers thrive nearly as much as on twitter.

"Zero what are you saying twitter is way worse" Twitter is undeniably worse because its very format encourages misunderstanding and vitriol, but we can still post whatever we want on twitter. Whereas on tumblr showing one nipple is considered VM18, and if you even just mention your own history of childhood abuse you can get termed without previous warning, because a website in which CSA is even just brushed on is not safe enough for advertisers. I've said it before and I've said it again: the way people treat people who were raped was just as traumatizing to me as being raped itself, if not more. Teaching people that this horrible event defines them and is a Sensitive Subject that can never be brought up and can never be shown in anything and is "too much" does an impact, shockingly. Seeing everyone attack sa survivors and accuse them of lying and having everyone think you're just trying to ruin someone's life does a number on you. Having no autonomy whatsoever over what legal forces do about it does a number on you. I'd argue that everyone suddenly finding out about me being raped because I finally worked up the courage to tell someone and she snitched and it completely blowing up my personal life was just as traumatizing to me as being assaulted, lol. It gave me way more trust issues and I can't talk about my trauma with my friends anymore 👍. No one ever asked what someone Did to me when I tell them I was emotionally abused, though I don't doubt that it happens, but my mom asked "with WHAT" when I told her my grandma raped me. Which, by the way, is a really fucked up way to respond to someone confessing they got raped and if you do it they're allowed to kill you. I don't care if you're confused. If they say they were raped, they were raped.

When you say you were raped, everyone becomes so so suspicious of every word you say. Everyone practically grades you on whether or not your circumstance was Enough to be considered rape or if you're being honest. Because people are so deadset on rape being completely divorced from any other kind of crime, like it's not just another form of violence. So if you say "this person raped me" they hear "so you think this person is Satan and Pure Evil. But they're nice to ME, so clearly you're lying!"

Just because someone's nice to you doesn't mean they aren't fully capable of doing something absolutely horrible to someone else. You making rape into some mythical thing that only happens in one set extreme circumstance and can never happen to anyone else isn't helping and is in fact actually hurting people. My rapist is apparently very nice to most people. I don't think she was attracted to me in the slightest. She saw me getting into a situation where she believed I was putting myself at risk of assault or being preyed upon, so she "showed me" what would happen if I didn't stop. It had nothing to do with attraction. I explain why she did it because you need to understand that by deciding only a very specific type of person with a specific motive could do something, you predispose yourself to not believing victims of people outside of that specific image. Kill the image of what a rapist looks like in your head. Kill the image of what a "good victim" looks like in your head. I was incredibly unstable and unpleasant after being assaulted because I'd just gotten fucking assaulted and was in denial of it. I'm still trying to become a better person. Often the sweet nice person is the rapist and the "weird crazy person" is being abused.

It's also important to know motives for rape because. Surprise surprise, you are not immune to being a rapist. You are not immune to traumatizing someone via sex. You are not immune to abusing someone sexually. Rapists don't wake up and go "time to traumatize a child!" and pretending they do actively harms victims. People didn't believe me because they couldn't conceive of someone as kind as my grandma raping me, even though she abused me on a daily basis. You need to be aware of people's boundaries and mental states during sex. Including if you're submissive, btw.

Part of my "lore" for Kiyo has Sister being the only one to calm him down during fits of mania/splitting, causing him to idealize her and become obsessed with her (arguably a better reading of the "calm yourself" lines than hand-waving it away as a manipulation tactic). Perhaps he even developed feelings for her at some point, due to being the only major female figure in his life, which may have been reciprocated and/or exploited by his sister. But, ultimately, Kiyo's lore is so vague that any interperetation of the events leading up to his enrollment in the Killing Game could work.

I'm a bit less of a "Kiyo-as-Rape-Survivor" truther than I was when I discovered Kiyo's sister on the Hate Sink wiki (which I ultimately undid by making a Base-Breaking Character page for him by pointing out that this fan theory was, in fact, a fan theory), but I do still think it's a valid reading, especially considering V3 rarely properly delves into its characters. The issue is, it's rarely used well, completely undermines Kiyo's in-game characterization and just makes him a boring, overly-sympathetic woobie instead of pure, Gothic horror lost in a world of wacky comedy.

Yeah, I agree! Given Tsumugi's penchant for drama I would not put it past her to write some real fucked up shit into his backstory. His Love Hotel event pretty much confirms that he's not just aware of BDSM sex, he's practiced at it, and I really don't think the fact that his execution featured shibari with the classic red rope was a coincidence. But the circumstances behind which he learned that stuff are left ambiguous - did he pick it up from experiences with cultural groups? When he talks about having a 'spiritual experience' which awakened Sister's tulpa, was that his first experience with intense sensation or did it trigger her appearance because she was involved with previous experiences? I think there are many signs that point to him having had a fair amount of pretty intense sexual experiences in the past, and given that he's only supposed to be 18 or so in-game that in of itself is pretty damning, but whether or not he was a willing participant is left ambiguous.

I like to HC him and Sister as codependent mostly because I like stories about characters who need each other to an unhealthy degree, but other readings I think can be just as interesting if done right.

But yeah, you're right in that a lot of the time those kinds of headcanons are used as an excuse to absolve him of guilt and make him a character he isn't, which... is not to my taste, as I've made clear. Besides, I think it's more interesting to have a character whose trauma makes them angry or hypersexual or just plain weird and still acknowledges their victimhood than it is to have a character acknowledge their trauma and then immediately become a calm and placid survivor who meekly and appropriately works through their issues. It's a difficult line to walk, what with a lot of media stereotyping mentally ill or abused individuals as straight up crazy villains, but I don't think it's a sign of great writing or great understanding to 180-pivot to the opposite extreme, either.

Kiyo-as-written would likely react extremely poorly if told his Sister wasn't good for him or abused him, whether or not it was true. I think he has an unhealthy relationship with sex insofar as his own boundaries have been crossed and therefore he doesn't understand why crossing those boundaries is wrong; he's very pushy with Shuichi in the Love Hotel, to the point of maybe being accused of assault, and he seems unashamed to admit that his relationship with his sister was more Cersei and Jaime than Jon and Arya. He hasn’t reacted to his past experiences with revilement and fear, he's embraced them to a degree most people would conclude is not good for anyone. And that... kind of breaks a lot of people's perceptions of how SA survivors "should be", which I guess is why he's so frequently changed in fanworks to be more palatable to the kind of fans who are uncomfortable with SA depictions of any sort other than 'terrible offscreen thing that happens to a poor innocent victim who is subsequently a crying wreck that needs consoling back to health'.

So when I say 'I like fucked up kiyo more than woobie victim kiyo' there's a lot more to it than that, but that's just my shorthand way of saying I think stripping fucked up shit out of a fucked up story to please your own moral compass is... kind of stupid tbh

While yeah the way arkham is handled in basically all batman media sucks, I dont understand the sentiment that asylums and similar concepts are inherently nothing but vehicles for abuse.

While historically they've mostly just been somewhere for people to hide away undesirables in the guise of helping them(and then just abusing them like crazy instead either cause they thought that could help make them "normal" or cause they just didn't care etc) and im not going to deny that its not still like. What the majority of asylums are used for today as well. I just dont understand why people esp ones who haven't been institutionalised or are close to people who have been wave away the entire concept as nothing but a weapon against mentally ill people(not saying im sure youve never been etc).

Again I'm not trying to say the vast majority of asylums don't have absolutely huge issues and that there's not a fuck ton of inherent problems especially to forced institutionalisation cause there really really is but ive had friends whove actually improved from being institutionalised and would be willing to be again(very rare im aware) and have considered consenting to it myself because of the kind of care theyre able to offer.

I have acquaintances that have been tackled and sedated while institutionalised and even one whos received ect(fucked her up extremely bad and everything surrounding it was terrible) so again. I know that asylums can be absolutely terrible, i just. Dont get the "nothing but vehicles for abuse" thing cause if that were true, then they'd be even worse than they are, and i wouldn't have friends who could say positive things about their experience.

canon amity is introduced as an overachieving school bully who is incredibly nasty to luz's first friend in the demon realm, willow. she's being mentored by lilith, who leads the emperor's coven, and is on the path to join + lead the emperor's coven herself someday. this would mean having immense social power but also being directly under the emperor's very fascist thumb.

in the canon, luz stumbles into the isles at age 14 and meets amity at demon high school; amity promptly tries to get her killed due to insane jealousy antics, but then the two of them enter a rivalry-turned-shaky-friendship instead. amity realizes over time that she's been Kind Of The Worst and starts trying to make better choices. she also has a falling-out with lilith when lilith makes her cheat in a witch's duel with luz, bc amity values honesty/fairness A Lot. that knocks her pretty squarely off the Emperor's Coven Ambitions path.

(which is funny given that she's introduced as just being. So Awful. amity please consider any of your unfair biases for 2 seconds challenge level IMPOSSIBLE)

it turns out that amity's mother is a Viciously abusive and classist social climber who has been hyper-controlling of every aspect of amity's life, including who she associates with and what she prioritizes and what her goals are. so a lot of amity's season one arc is about redefining who she is, what she wants, and who she cares about. and distancing herself from her parents. and making amends for her bullshit. and being desperately pathetically Embarrassingly head-over-heels for luz.

season 2 kicks off with amity's mom trying to kill luz, in part over Corrupting Their Daughter. this isn't even a homophobia thing this is just a classism thing. & amity Fully breaking from her parents' influence and fighting back against them to save luz's life. it's incredibly gay and involves her snarling "stay away from MY LUZ" be still my beating heart.

amity meets hunter later as an enemy. canon luz is aligned with wild witches, who are very much traitors to the empire. canon luz loves committing treason and fucking with the empire. amity and luz are dating at this point. amity is therefore now down to aid and abet her in Anything

amity and hunter spend the beginning of the episode psychologically fucking with each other because they both have The Exact Same Neuroses around needing to be Useful and Good Enough. then amity recognizes that hunter is actually Very Very Suicidal and Very Very Reckless in ways she herself once was; she offers him help and is basically like, "hey, i've been abused, too, but it's gonna be okay. come with me and my found family can help you."

hunter, who accepted similar kindness from luz earlier and Immediately got in terrible trouble with belos for it, is like .....hmm... maybe. i'm considering it.

then he realizes that amity has a magical object that belos needs & is like HAHA WAIT. NEVER MIND ACTUALLY. I CAN GET THE EMPEROR'S APPROVAL BACK IF I JUST TRY TO KILL YOU INSTEAD the two of them have a Wild and Desperate fight that ends in amity holding a knife to an exhausted hunter's throat & hunter telling her that if she escapes or kills him, the empire will slaughter luz in retaliation. checkmate!

amity and hunter bury the hatchet about this offscreen later, though. there's very little ongoing animosity between them in the canon bc from a doylist perspective, there wasn't time to flesh out an entire onscreen talk about feelings; from a watsonian perspective, amity is just like, "yeah man, i tried to kill luz the first time i met her, i get it. you were crazy. i have been crazy before. we're all good"

endgame amity is fighting against the empire and against her mother alongside luz n luz's found family. four years into the future in the show's epilogue, amity is living a cheerful life as a wild witch inventor-slash-adventurer who is in a happy relationship with luz, who has made up with the friends she lost in high school, and who hangs out in giant cuddle puddles of said friends (including hunter) at least once per week, usually more. she's cast off her high school ambitions and is much MUCH happier and healthier.

so the princess AU is basically just positing that if amity DIDN'T meet luz at age 14, she would have continued down the path she'd started out on instead. which would have meant selling her soul to become an emperor's coven soldier and, just. becoming the loneliest most miserable bitch alive.
