One night, before going to bed
I set up my sweet tooth to be fed
I thought, “what do I want?”
Tried my hand at fondant—
But I think I made Oobleck instead.
#i used powdered sugar and marshmallow fluff#unfortunately we had only a small amount of powdered sugar#and i slightly overshot the amount of marshmallow fluff i needed#resulting in an incredibly sticky non-newtonian goo#that stuck to itself when i hit it hard#letting me remove it from one hand at a time#but meanwhile attached itself worse than ever to the hand i was holding the glob in#no putting it down did not help#i eventually fixed the problem with cocoa powder but wow#that was… a time#btw the reference here is to#bartholemew and the oobleck#which is a childrens book by#doctor seuss#involving a form of precipitation that sticks irrevocably to everything#and causes a lot of trouble#i am exaggerating the severity of this incident#but poetic license#catwings chatter#limerick#apparently that’s a thing i do on tumblr now#if you read all these tags God bless you#happy new year and good night#or whatever time of day it is for you#💚

#These kids need psychiatric help#Unfortunately they’re also really funny#I have a whole collection of screenshots in my phone#Plus I feel that a lot of animorphs posts talk about how dark and insightful it is#Which is true#but it loses the fact that it’s also about six kids who don’t know what they’re doing#And that these books#While having deep takes on the trauma and damage caused by war#Is also a children’s series#P-15e#animorphs#jake animorphs#cassie animorphs#rachel animorphs#marco animorphs#aximili esgarrouth isthill#ax animorphs#tobias animorphs

At the start of each Animorphs book, before the first chapter begins, there is a page. On it is a simple acknowledgement. Two names. The first name is Michael - Katherine Applegate's husband and co-writer on the series. The second name is that of a boy. This name belongs to their son. Or, should I say, belonged to their son. Because they don't have a son anymore. They have a daughter. Every time I pick up an Animorphs book, I can't help but linger on this page as I quite literally hold her deadname in my hands. It's a peculiarly beautiful feeling. Peculiar because the context behind that name makes it seem all the more personal. I feel like I've violated her privacy simply by knowing it, even though it's openly out there for anyone to read. But beautiful because dammit, doesn't this represent this series's relationship with the queer community so well? Animorphs is often regarded as a queer (and especially trans) narrative, despite the fact that such subtext was completely unintentional. Applegate did not write Animorphs to be queer media, but she's embraced the fact that it has became so in the hands of the fans. How perfectly fitting is it, then, that she unknowingly dedicated the entire series to a trans woman?
#the name doesn't appear until book 14#you can mark the exact point she was born based on when the acknowledgement page changes#which then led applegate to taking on ghostwriters#so she wpuld have more time to take care of the baby#and now applegate's open support of the trans community is one of the biggest legacies of animorphs#(especially in comparison to a certain other children's author)#and her daughter coming out has only bolstered that message#like#it's insane the degree to which she has influenced this series behind the scenes#i think about this so much#animorphs#ka applegate#katherine applegate#transgender#trans#idiot teenagers with a death wish#koolmathgames.com

I'm not getting into The Giving Tree discourse...
#personal#delete later#idk i just saw a post of the “alternate ending” comic on my dash and everyone praising it as an improvement and “fixing” the original#which i kinda resent#while tulli and i was taking my nephew to a book store we walked around the kids section and found the giving tree and we read through it#and i was so stricken by how profoundly sad it is. it's not a happy story#in the end both versions tell the exact same lesson. but one flat out tells you and the other makes you sit with a pit in your stomach#and work to find the answer#i dunno it's kids literature but kids literature is important. i don't wanna discredit anyone's bad memories with the book but also i think#sometimes it's ok to make kids a bit sad and upset with fiction.#tweet that goes “what if romeo and juliet didn't kill themselves and explained to the audience that family feuds are bad”#idk you can't seriously read the original book as an adult and say it's glorifying self-martyrdom#when the final drawing of the book is of an old tired man sitting on arotting stump with his hat fallen to the ground#again i don't wanna invalidate people's feelings if they enjoy the alt version i think it's really nice too. but the original has its#purpose too. imagine if at the end of the lorax they show that the boy did it and replanted the world happy ending#wait they did that in the movie shit#i dunno i just love somber children's literature. tulli and i are talking about moomin right now and how the series ends with the moomin#family just leaving. and nobody gets to say goodbye to them. their friends have to find ways to live with the emptiness they've left behin

Little bright colored outfit with a fun vest ~
(shoes from ebay like 10 years ago. everything else is thrifted)
#ootd#jfashion#fashion#fantasy fashion#mori kei#....like... adjacent... lol#no idea what style this would be lol.. makes me think of like whimsical vaguely fantasy themed childrens book character#finally posting one of my aforementioned seven million drafts of actual outfits and costumes i have finished and edited#the photos for but just never feel like posting lol..#I need to find one of those people whos like 'omg i am ADDICTED to social media ugh i wish i could get off of it#im just browsing and posting like 60 times a daaaaay!!!' and take a little magical bottle and suck some of the social media#enthusiasim out of them. for moi. In exchange they can have some of my 'literally just never in the mood to post or interact with the#outside world ever' energy. We can balance each other. huzzah and so on#Though I think maybe it's part of the general thing I've heard of like.. I can't remember if it was in reference to adhd or just some sort#of general execcutive functioning issue type of thing - but the idea that things have to be ''just right'' before you do something. like#'oh i need to do this task. but i have to wait until XYZ first' or 'oh i can do this but only if X specific condition is met' or etc#The fact that I even have to be in a Specific Mindset to post. or sometimes will delay posting on social media because like 'oh well#I'm going somewhere tomorrow. somehow this matters. i cannot spend 5 minuts posting TONIGHT. clearly it will interfere#somehow schedule wise with the doctor appointment i have 15 hours from now. yes. yes. i must wait until my appointment is over#tomorrow afternoon. THEN i shall post' or etc. etc. lol. NOT even taking into account the many days#I just genuinely and physically sick and it's not even a mental thing. I just physically dont feel like sitting at the computer lol..#ANYWAY.. trying to get back into it. trying to get a business bank account.. make a proper paypal so i can start selling sculptures again.#selling clothes and sculptures.. posting about such things then of course as one must. etc... chanting to hype up and motivate myself lol#But yes. this is my favorite outfit out of the bunch so I am posting it first I guess.. maybe others later..#Also the purple dress says its from shein. which I've heard is bad fast fashion stuff. but maybe okay since its second hand? I havent#been to the bins since like 2020 or late 2019 even. and I think stuff like shein and temu has only become poular in the past few years#but I bet if I went to the bins now I might would find a good handfull of that stuff. Probably now not much different than what you#find in a walmart or a forever 21 or actual physical stores you can go to though. I hear quality of clothing is down everywhere no matter#where you get it or whatnot. What bountiful joys unfettered capitalism and exploitation bestows upon us (<being sarcastic).#Wearing one of my favorite little vests though. I love the texture of it and the clasps on it

I have a germ of a theory that good Christian fiction has stories that are less about shaving down your personality to meet some specific mold of what a good Christian looks like, and more about "how gloriously different are all the saints."
Not that the Christian life doesn't involve fighting against our own sinful nature and conforming ourselves to Christ-like behavior, but I think it makes for better, more realistic, and more universal stories when you also recognize that people have different gifts and flaws and they're going to be called to use their unique personalities to serve the kingdom of God in their own unique way, instead of assuming everyone has to conform themselves to a very specific (often secular-culturally based) image of good behavior. It makes for a much more vibrant story.
#catholic things#books#i'm still ruminating on charlotte yonge#because i usually contrast modern christian fiction with how the classics incorporated christianity#but she's the first classic victorian author i've found that i'd describe as writing christian fiction#which makes for a more direct comparison#she did handle religion in some very good ways#but i tried another of her books after 'heir'#and it reminded me of what i didn't like about the childhood section of 'heir'#but magnified a lot#she wants to show her children overcoming flaws#but she has a very narrow english anglo-catholic view of goodness#and that means her idea of christianity can come across as very judgemental and narrow-minded#things that are not actually sins in and of themselves are treated as moral failings inherent to other cultures#and the kids spend so much time worrying about cutting out sin that you don't get to see enough of their unique personality#i'd be willing to try more from her but i think i'd have to stick to the stories about adult characters

i am upsetting myself at ungodly hours by imagining how the scene in apple and raven's dorm room must've looked like after raven refused to sign.
like imagine apple sobbing the night away and raven tries to comfort her only to be rebuffed and she spends the entire night awake and staring at the ceiling while the guilt eats away at her as she hears apple's quiet sobs.
and apple's there feeling so hurt and angry and alone, and in that moment she probably wants nothing more than a friend, a comforting presence, but she can't even look her bsf in the eye because she's just so upset about what's just happened.
idk there's something about the two of them being so steeped in distress and sadness because raven can't force apple to understand her and apple can't comprehend the reasons for raven's decisions.
and the two of them love each other SO MUCH, but right then they're just stuck in that suffocating dorm room with only each other for company, wondering what they're going to do next.
#eah#ever after high#shitpost#it's too late for this#i need to get to bed#raven queen#apple white#listen to me#it's about the ANGST#also again#apple definitely had a crush on raven#which is just making this worse but#idk there's something about the misunderstanding that gets to me#not quite misunderstanding i mean but you get it#because apple has a mental BLOCK when it comes to anything other than destiny#and raven can only explain 'im not evil pls i dont want this life' in so many ways before getting tired#but at the end of the day#it's no one's fault#and they;re just scared lonely children#also yes smth like this might have happened in the books but pls bear with me i haven't read them in a while

today i’m thinking about how happy i am to no longer be twelve. remember how u were constantly living the most humiliating moment of your life? why was that?
#back when i was teaching i was chatting with a few of my seventh grade girls before class about the reading they’d had last night#they’d just started the giver and one them mentioned how she was surprised that people were married in the community bc that#didn’t seem like something this oppressive culture would allow#which was an extremely astute prediction!!! they’d just started the book!!!#i wanted to validate her in front of her friends so i praised her for making such a sharp observation and then said#something to the effect of ‘i don’t wanna spoil anything but you’ll see later how they handle things like romance and sex’#and i watched this girl turn eight shades of red bc Oh My God Teacher Said The S Word And It’s My Fault#listen!!!! i forgot that was a cuss word to catholic children!!!! and in my defense aren’t euphemisms way cringier??#but yeah. it was bad. i’m so sorry [Girl’s Name] wherever u are u were an extremely smart and cool seventh grader#and i’m sorry i made ur soul leave ur body#anyway

what i love so much about wei ying is how much he actually loves children. like he canonically is a good mentor/father figure and he wants to have kids of his own someday. it tears me apart inside thinking about how much he suppresses with jin ling because…that’s his shijie’s son, and in another world, he would’ve been the best uncle jin ling ever had. and with a-yuan being his “little one”, he was so heartbroken every time he thought a-yuan probably didn’t make it out of the burial mounds. in yi city, he was the ideal teacher: giving the disciples chances to figure out the solution for themselves and getting some hands on experience by guiding them on what to look for when night hunting…
lan zhan and wei ying’s dynamic with children is so special because anyone with half a brain can tell they care so much about all the kids they come across. truly after the war, with all the orphans and complicated family dynamics, to watch two people who mutually love and support each other through hell and back also simultaneously adopting every broken child is so healing, even when it doesn’t work out in the end.
#mdzs#mao dao zu shi#grandmaster of demonic cultivation#wei wuxian#wei ying#lan zhan#when comparing the three: sqq is okay w kids#and tbh it only worked out bc he knew so much abt lbh#xl is better than sqq but children doesn’t suit him like that#he and hua cheng are more passive and detached with their care#but goddamn wwx is he good#he has that soft spot and he’s silly and he spoils the kids he comes across rotten#he could never even punish them if they do something bad#at most he’ll probably express disappointment (which would be soul crushing tbh) and hand them to lwj to do it for him#it’s the middle of the night#and I’m crying about fatherhood in a fictional book#good night#someone send help

Fair warning: I don't think this is going to be a question, just a few post-latest chapter thoughts haphazardly stacked together under a trenchcoat.
Thank you for this chapter. It made my day to read something almost fluffy (I don't think anything in LH can be called purely fluff, and that's a good thing because fluff is best when it is padding for the plot, and that's what this chapter was).
LH Book 5 has been the beginning of payoff for the Dramione slow burn, and while that is immensely satisfying, it also means there are less milestones to look forward to. I don't know if this was an intentional decision, but I love how you started seeding in another slow burn that has kept us equally invested: the Black family drama.
I love reading anything that does the dysfunctional family dynamic well, and seeing Draco getting old enough to identify it clearly, have questions, testing his boundaries, fighting back against what he's been told to accept, has all been immensely satisfying as someone who has gone through this myself. Your depiction of the Black family dynamics has been /chef's kiss/. * spoiler for chapter 70 * when Draco witnesses his cousins casually throwing information his way, what I wanted was for one of the adults to see how much he needed that information, that connection, and give it to him. My god ❤️ You have written a lonely boy craving family so well.
Back to the Dramione of it all (and this might be a question), I love how Harry chose to approach the contained chaos waiting to unravel around him and just bluntly told Draco what he did. Question: do you think this is something Canon Harry would have done in this instance? Was there a choice to change anything in your characterisation of Harry (with respect to Canon) that resulted in this wonderful, blunt, more-mature-than-many-adults-who-can't-even-identify-their-needs version of Harry?
If not, what canon Harry actions/traits do you think would point to him acting this way?
Thank you! This is a beautiful and very kind trench coat, and I am luxuriating in it.
I will answer your question while continuing to luxuriate: I don't think canon Harry would ever confront his friends about an emotional problem, mostly because because he never does. Hermione and Ron, the two people he's most comfortable with in the world, are feuding for most of HBP, and while he does have a few "can't you guys just get along?" type-outbursts, he doesn't really sit down and ask "hey, what's going on with you? How can I help?" because canon!Harry is, as you might expect for a 15-year-old boy, better at ignoring his problems than solving them. (I also think there's an ingredient of conflict-avoidance in there from his upbringing with the Dursleys, but I'll be the first to admit that's mostly headcanon.)
My Harry is a bit softer — in part because that's just how I prefer my Harry, my favorite scenes with him are those where he's showing tenderness for things other people have neglected. This is the best of him, and this is the core of him, in my opinion. Canon Harry has this marvelous capacity for empathy, and when he chooses to use it, it's kind of astonishing how capable he is of resisting prejudice and caring for people. He's fiercely loyal in defending Hagrid, always. He makes a point of freeing Dobby, who's just spent a book trying to maim him. He refuses to let Sirius kill Pettigrew, even knowing that Pettigrew betrayed his parents ("My dad wouldn't want you to" — sweet boy, you mean you don't want them to, and you understand on some level that's the only thing you can say that will stop them.) He saves Gabrielle Delacour, because even if she would have been safe in the end, he's not leaving a little girl at the bottom of a fucking lake. He reads the Half-Blood Prince's handwriting — Snape's handwriting — and thinks: "I bet he's someone like me." On the basis of handwriting, he empathizes with this person! Harry is constantly trying to save people, and he doesn't ever really tell us why. And we'll never know why canon!Harry does that, consciously or subconsciously, but I have to imagine that every time Harry looks at someone in pain, he sees a lonely kid stuck under a staircase, and he thinks not fucking today.
#the emotional maturity — such as it is — I attribute to having more of mrs weasley's influence#in that lionheart takes him away from the dursleys and basically never sends him back#i don't think lionheart!molly would let it happen and lionheart!sirius certainly wouldn't#this is not criticism of the original — I've said many times that the early HP books are weird because they're children's books#so stuff like. child neglect. for instance. isn't treated That Seriously#because why on earth would it be it's a children's book!#and we ignore things like that in children's books because we don't take any of it#THAT seriously. except then you have to retroactively frame#harry's past as a realistic adult figure in the later books#and then it all sort of fractures. tonally speaking.#so the only thing I would claim lionheart has in that respect is the benefit of foresight#in knowing that there are going to be 7 books and they are going to explore#these characters as adults. that's all!#which is my ultimate justification of: i think this is what harry would have been#if the author had known that the books were going to follow him into adulthood#and had wanted to set up the man that harry purports to be in Book 7 a little earlier. that's all!#lionheart spoilers#lionheart#greenteacup asks
